Draw Interior Layouts Faster than AutoCAD with Rayon Design — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00Hey everyone. In this tutorial, I'll
- 0:02show you how to draw an interior layout
- 0:04faster than AutoCAD by using Rayon
- 0:06Design, where you can import and redraw
- 0:08floor plans and sections, stylize them,
- 0:10and share them online as presentations
- 0:13like this one, all in one workflow. If
- 0:16you want to find this template, we will
- 0:17also have it in the link in the
- 0:18description below. But just to get
- 0:20started, once you're back at your
- 0:22homepage, you can press new model up
- 0:24here at the top right. And that will
- 0:26open up a new blank model for you. Then
- 0:28from here, we're going to go over to
- 0:30menu, go to import, and you can import
- 0:33an image, a PDF, a DWG, an DXF, or even
- 0:36just a regular rayon file. Now, right
- 0:39now, we just have this drawn dotted line
- 0:42layout. Let's add some walls and some
- 0:44openings and some zoning for the
- 0:47different floor types to help us get
- 0:49started using Rayon Design. Now, first
- 0:52off, let's use the wall tool down here.
- 0:54And as you can see here at the top
- 0:56right, anytime you're using any tool in
- 0:58Rayon, it's going to pop up this menu
- 0:59that has what layer you're on and all
- 1:02the different editing tools that you
- 1:03could need. Right now, for our wall, you
- 1:06can change the thickness. Let's go for a
- 1:08thicker wall. You can change the fill
- 1:11and you can make it either a solid
- 1:13color, a texture, which is all these
- 1:16different wonderful rayon textures, or
- 1:19you can make it just a hatch.
- 1:22And for ours, we're going to do
- 1:26this oblique hatch.
- 1:29And once again, you can just change it
- 1:30up here, change the stroke, completely
- 1:32edit it however you want. And even if
- 1:34you want to, you can remove it and just
- 1:36have it be like a basic wall.
- 1:40And we're just going to click where we
- 1:42drew this and then go like that. And
- 1:45then hit enter. And then we're going to
- 1:48go all the way around. And then right
- 1:49now it's on the outside of where we drew
- 1:51it. If you want on the inside, you can
- 1:52just drag it and move it like that.
- 1:58Then once all you have all of your walls
- 2:00drawn like we do here, we're going to go
- 2:02ahead and add the zoning areas and the
- 2:04openings as well. Now for the openings,
- 2:07it's next to the wall tool right here.
- 2:10And it'll open up the blocks and
- 2:11libraries tab specifically for the rayon
- 2:14design openings. Now, here we have the
- 2:17door and a sliding door and some basic
- 2:19models. But if you ever want to load any
- 2:21more in, you can go here to libraries
- 2:23and click on all these different
- 2:24wonderful options. We're going to go
- 2:27here. And for now, let's just use this
- 2:30door right here, and then just click it,
- 2:33press select, or you can double click
- 2:35it. And every single block that Rayon
- 2:38has has a top view and a side view and a
- 2:41front view. So, if you're doing a floor
- 2:43plan, a section, an elevation, all of
- 2:47them will be available and ready for you
- 2:49to use and be able to see in Rayon.
- 2:53And then once you double click on that
- 2:55door, it'll put the door on your mouse
- 2:57as so, and you can line it up with the
- 2:59wall. Just click where you want it, and
- 3:02then you can orient it how you want.
- 3:04Make it face where you want. Let's just
- 3:05put it like this. And then click again,
- 3:07and it'll put it in the drawing for you.
- 3:09And if you ever want to edit it, you can
- 3:11just click it again, move it around,
- 3:13edit it, do whatever you want with it.
- 3:16Now that we have all of the openings and
- 3:18all the walls that we want, let's talk
- 3:20about the zoning tool. Now, the zoning
- 3:22tool is right here at the bottom under
- 3:25the door and the opening tool. And you
- 3:27for making zones, you're going to want
- 3:28to use the zone tool and the zone
- 3:30divider tool. The zone divider tool will
- 3:32let you separate rooms where there's if
- 3:35there isn't a wall between them and you
- 3:37use the zoning tool, like as you can see
- 3:38here, it's trying to make everything in
- 3:40blue one big zone. But if you want to
- 3:43make it, let's say this area right here
- 3:45where my mouse is a separate zone, you
- 3:47would have to go here to the zone
- 3:49divider and then click where you want it
- 3:51to be separate. So let's say we want one
- 3:53from here to here.
- 3:57And then if we press enter and then we
- 3:59use the zone tool. Now, this area here
- 4:01is a separate zone. And then once you
- 4:04click on that, you can see here it'll
- 4:06make the zone for you and also a label
- 4:08for the zone as well. And if you just
- 4:09double click that, you can totally edit
- 4:12all the text. You can get rid of it if
- 4:14you want. And then on the right side
- 4:16here, once again, you can change where
- 4:17it's oriented, change the font, change
- 4:19the size, whatever you like. Let's just
- 4:22leave it how it is for now. And then
- 4:25press the check mark whenever you're
- 4:27done editing it. And then for the actual
- 4:29zone itself, it's similar to the wall
- 4:31where you can go here to the fill and it
- 4:33has a solid texture hatch and also an
- 4:35image one. The wall didn't have the
- 4:37image one. The image allows you to load
- 4:40in any image you'd like or you can
- 4:43change the opacity and you can even edit
- 4:45the filters. And it's just really nice
- 4:48for if your client has a very specific
- 4:50material that they're working with, you
- 4:52can take a picture of it and then put it
- 4:53into rayon. Or once again, you can just
- 4:56use the solid texture or hatch that
- 4:58Rayon has. And if you want it, just like
- 5:01that. This is just a nice simple temp
- 5:04tile hatch. And then there you go. And
- 5:06as you can see, it ends here. So then if
- 5:08you want to load in another zone, now
- 5:10it's all this stuff that's highlighted
- 5:11in blue. And it's excluding that zone
- 5:13that we already have.
- 5:17And then once you have all of your zones
- 5:18done, your drawing is going to start
- 5:20looking something like this. And now we
- 5:21sort of have a building starting to
- 5:23form. We have all of our walls. We have
- 5:25all of our doors and windows and balcony
- 5:27openings. And now we're starting to have
- 5:29these different textures on the floor
- 5:31with different labels showing exactly
- 5:33what they are. But it still kind of
- 5:35feels a little empty. So now we can
- 5:38start adding blocks and annotations to
- 5:41sort of fill in the inside of the
- 5:43interior layout and start making it feel
- 5:46more like an apartment like what we're
- 5:48going for. So, the really great thing
- 5:51about Rayon is that here in the blocks
- 5:53tab, it has a bunch of amazing different
- 5:55blocks. They're 4K blocks, and like I
- 5:57said earlier, they're in the top front
- 5:59and side views, including all the
- 6:01different symbol blocks. And you can
- 6:03even create your own blocks from
- 6:05scratch, or you can import existing DWG
- 6:08blocks. So, if you have a bunch of
- 6:10blocks that you have in AutoCAD and you
- 6:12have a library full of all of your
- 6:13AutoCAD blocks, you can even load those
- 6:16into Rayon as well. Or if you're using a
- 6:18Rayon block or an AutoCAD block and you
- 6:21want to edit it, you can do that as
- 6:22well. And once you make all of these
- 6:25blocks, you can create your own block
- 6:26library inside of Rayon and then share
- 6:29it with your team. So that way,
- 6:30everybody who's working on the project
- 6:32can all have these custom blocks that
- 6:34you've made. Now, here in the blocks
- 6:37tab, we have the my blocks which are
- 6:39already loaded into the project, or you
- 6:41can click on the libraries and add in
- 6:43all these other blocks as well. Now,
- 6:46let's fill out this area right here just
- 6:48to get you started. So, for instance, if
- 6:51we search couch in the block library, it
- 6:54will show us a bunch of different blocks
- 6:56to choose from, and it'll keep loading
- 6:58them, and you can just search for one
- 7:00here.
- 7:07Once you have all of your different
- 7:08furniture loaded into the project and
- 7:10all your different blocks, you'll start
- 7:11looking like this. And now it's really
- 7:13starting to come together. Now, always
- 7:15make sure that while you're working
- 7:16through the project, you're on the right
- 7:18layer. Like for instance, if you click
- 7:20on a wall, it should be on the walls
- 7:22plan layer. If you click on a zone, it
- 7:24should be on the zone layer. And if you
- 7:26click on a piece of furniture, it should
- 7:27be on the furniture layer. Create your
- 7:29own custom ones. You can just go over
- 7:30here to layers and then click on the add
- 7:33layer tool and then name it whatever you
- 7:34want. For our last and final step for
- 7:36the drawing, we're going to be showing
- 7:38you how to add annotations. As you see,
- 7:40it already loaded some in for us when we
- 7:42made our zones like this one and this
- 7:44one. But if we want to add some
- 7:46annotations based on like saying maybe
- 7:48we want to say what the furniture is,
- 7:50what material it's made out of, how long
- 7:52something is, you can just go down here
- 7:54once again. Then you can either click on
- 7:56the text tool and just add in text
- 7:58yourself or you can use the leader tool
- 8:00to label something or the dimension tool
- 8:02to show you how long you want a wall to
- 8:03be or the arrow tool to like point out
- 8:06an object and then say, "Oh, this object
- 8:08is what it is." Let's say that for
- 8:10instance you want to label that this
- 8:12area here is like a dry bar and then you
- 8:13want to label that this is actually a
- 8:16cantal levering out from the island and
- 8:18then these are stools beneath it. You
- 8:20can click on the arrow tool and then
- 8:22just drag it over. Have it point at
- 8:25something like the chair and then go to
- 8:27the text tool and then just label that
- 8:30as let's say stool
- 8:34with dry bar. And you can do it however
- 8:38you want. Completely customize it. And
- 8:40as you can see, there you go. And then
- 8:41once again, that's on the right side
- 8:43here. Change the text, change the font,
- 8:45change its orientation, its rotation,
- 8:47whatever you'd like.
- 8:50And then once you have all those
- 8:51annotations in, it'll look something
- 8:53like this. As you can see, it's just an
- 8:55arrow with a text and it just labels
- 8:58what the thing is, what it's made out
- 9:00of, how big it is. And then things like
- 9:02this are like for if you have a door
- 9:04plan page where you have all of your
- 9:06doors, what materials they're made out
- 9:08of, what size they are. You can just use
- 9:09the circle tool and then the text tools
- 9:11and then put those in as well. And that
- 9:14is about it.
- 9:18Now, let's say you're all done with your
- 9:20work and you want to make it a
- 9:21presentation like the one I was showing
- 9:23at the beginning of the template and you
- 9:25want to show off everything that you've
- 9:26done for your team, but you're not
- 9:28really sure if you're ready yet. Well,
- 9:30first off, you're going to need to make
- 9:31a page in order to do that. In order to
- 9:34add a page, you can go up here to the
- 9:35pages tab and then just simply click on
- 9:37the plus sign and it'll open up this and
- 9:40it'll add a page for you. Now, once you
- 9:42click on the page, you can see here once
- 9:44again on the right side, you can change
- 9:45the scale, you can change the
- 9:47orientation,
- 9:48you can just whenever you have this
- 9:50four-way arrows on your mouse, you can
- 9:52just click and drag it around. You can
- 9:54hold on the sides to make it longer or
- 9:55shorter. So for our drawing here, let's
- 9:58just move over a little bit, zoom out a
- 10:00little bit, and then bring it over,
- 10:04drag it out,
- 10:06and then let's say you want a specific
- 10:07page size and a specific scale, you can
- 10:10just go here to format, and let's make
- 10:12it a tabloid and 11 by 17. And then, as
- 10:15you can see, it's a lot bigger now. So,
- 10:17we might have to change our scale as
- 10:19well to make it smaller. And a normal
- 10:21scale is probably going to be about 316
- 10:23or 1/8 or 332. Let's do a 1/8 scale. As
- 10:27you can see, that made it way bigger.
- 10:29So, let's do a 34 scale. Now, it's a
- 10:33little bit too small. And we'll probably
- 10:36be right in the warm spot at about a
- 10:40little bit bigger. 1/4. That looks
- 10:43great. So, here at the 1/4 scale, we now
- 10:46have our page set up. Now, if you want
- 10:49to see what it looks like before you
- 10:51export it, here at the very top left or
- 10:54here at the very top right, you can
- 10:56either press preview or share. If you
- 10:58press share, it'll create a presentation
- 11:01that's published that anybody can see.
- 11:03But if you just press preview, it'll
- 11:05create a presentation that only you can
- 11:07see. And then you can make it full
- 11:10screen. If you have multiple pages, you
- 11:12can now click through. You can even zoom
- 11:14in and zoom out. And this is what it
- 11:16will look like whenever it's being
- 11:17presented to somebody. Now, if you don't
- 11:20like it, you can always then press
- 11:22escape and then press this back arrow,
- 11:24go back to the model, and edit however
- 11:25you want. And then once you're ready,
- 11:27you can go up here to the share button
- 11:29and then click share and then invite
- 11:32people with their email. Or you can just
- 11:34make it a presentation. And then once
- 11:36you click this, all of your pages are
- 11:38going to be published and everybody will
- 11:40be able to see your presentation.
