  1. 0:00Hi doctor, how are you doing today?
  2. 0:01>> Hello, I'm fine. How are you?
  3. 0:02>> I'm good to thank for asking. Yeah,
  4. 0:04>> if I may know, what's your name doctor?
  5. 0:05>> I'm Dr. Sankal Tapara and I'm from
  6. 0:07Kolkata.
  7. 0:08>> Wow. Okay. And how many years of
  8. 0:10practice experience do you have?
  9. 0:12>> Uh I started my practice called Happy
  10. 0:14Tooth in Kolkata in 2009. So it's been
  11. 0:17almost 16 17 years since I've been
  12. 0:19practicing. I completed my BDS in 2003
  13. 0:22and then onwards I've been practicing
  14. 0:24general dentistry and then went on to do
  15. 0:26my masters and now doing exclusive
  16. 0:28pediatric dental practice in Kolkata for
  17. 0:31almost 15 16 years now.
  18. 0:33>> That's amazing doctor. So doctor what
  19. 0:35was this one challenge or problem that
  20. 0:37you were facing in your practice that
  21. 0:38made you join the program?
  22. 0:39>> So uh very honestly uh we've been
  23. 0:42running our practices successfully. I
  24. 0:44opened another practice about 3 years
  25. 0:45ago, but our major uh challenge was you
  26. 0:48know the nitty-g gritties of day-to-day
  27. 0:51managing dental clinics, how to manage
  28. 0:54your staff, how to manage your
  29. 0:55inventory, how to look at finances, how
  30. 0:58to understand finances per se. These
  31. 1:00were things which were I mean you know
  32. 1:03you would think about it and just put it
  33. 1:05in the back burner.
  34. 1:08So all that was good but we really
  35. 1:11didn't have a concrete plan on how do we
  36. 1:14even do marketing and with uh
  37. 1:18traditional word of mouth marketing was
  38. 1:20working well but now social media has
  39. 1:21taken over and those were the things
  40. 1:23which I really thought were needed to do
  41. 1:25something about it but we weren't having
  42. 1:27too much of an answer for but this
  43. 1:29program gave me some thoughts and
  44. 1:30insight into it. Wow, that's amazing.
  45. 1:32But why now doctor? Like I mean you have
  46. 1:34been practicing over 15 years now. I
  47. 1:36know I'm thinking why not earlier
  48. 1:39the right way. Yeah. But u honestly um
  49. 1:43when I heard about this program uh I was
  50. 1:46thinking must be another course where
  51. 1:48you know they're uh they're selling some
  52. 1:51stuff and it's not really going to help.
  53. 1:53But when I saw the course content I
  54. 1:55spoke to a previous participant Dr.
  55. 1:56Shinas Pamini and he really said that
  56. 1:59sankpai I wish I did this course when I
  57. 2:01was your age and I'm thinking I wish I
  58. 2:04had got this course when I was you know
  59. 2:06about 15 years ago maybe it would have
  60. 2:07benefited us a lot
  61. 2:09>> but it really helped us understand and
  62. 2:11give guidelines on to how we can
  63. 2:14actually start off running a successful
  64. 2:17practice.
  65. 2:18>> Correct. Amazing doctor. So now that you
  66. 2:20have been part of for the program for 3
  67. 2:22months now, what was this one aha moment
  68. 2:24for you which was very memorable to you?
  69. 2:27>> Uh honestly there have been quite a lot
  70. 2:30of aha moments and quite a lot of
  71. 2:33moments where more than the aha factor
  72. 2:36have been that oh wow this is really
  73. 2:39worth implementing. right from uh the
  74. 2:42classes where we did um um uh I think
  75. 2:46social media marketing to classes where
  76. 2:48we were discussing finances uh to the
  77. 2:51class on AI by Dr. Shankara and I was
  78. 2:54thinking my god where is this world gone
  79. 2:56I mean he's talking of talking AI in
  80. 3:00dentistry to another level and what all
  81. 3:03the possibilities are and and how much
  82. 3:06it's real it's already been practicing
  83. 3:09practiced in so many parts of the world
  84. 3:10so I thought those were really really
  85. 3:12worth implementing and that one thought
  86. 3:15which really got me uh thinking was on
  87. 3:18the utilization Dr. uh by uh there was a
  88. 3:22class by parikhit
  89. 3:23and he spoke about how you can use chat
  90. 3:27GPT to you know just not like another
  91. 3:30Google tool but you really utilize chat
  92. 3:33GPT in your day-to-day practices and in
  93. 3:36your life and implement that and that
  94. 3:38really stuck with me that wow that's
  95. 3:41something you can subscribe to and learn
  96. 3:43from.
  97. 3:44>> Amazing doctor. So um is there something
  98. 3:47that you learned out of the program yet
  99. 3:49and which you implemented already? Uh
  100. 3:51we've already started doing a few things
  101. 3:54small things we've started implementing
  102. 3:55because there are lots on our end to do
  103. 3:58before we start implementing this and
  104. 4:00you have to really uh go in depth into
  105. 4:02the uh content but two three things
  106. 4:05which we already implemented. one is uh
  107. 4:07started u doing some bonuses for our
  108. 4:11staff doing some uh this was this was an
  109. 4:13interaction with the fellow participants
  110. 4:15which we did and realize best practices
  111. 4:17in their clinic and we started
  112. 4:19implementing in our clinic and we've
  113. 4:20seen a change also we started
  114. 4:22implementing a few things uh related to
  115. 4:25inventory management so that's been
  116. 4:27something which we've been looking at
  117. 4:29and we are now seriously looking at
  118. 4:31doing uh social media marketing
  119. 4:33>> amazing doctor so here or how was the
  120. 4:36entire faculty experience for you
  121. 4:38considering uh the entire faculty was a
  122. 4:41diverse
  123. 4:42>> very diverse faculty definitely and they
  124. 4:44were each one was really amazing the way
  125. 4:47they took out time to explain uh uh
  126. 4:50Shriam sir was also amazing Dr. Shri Ram
  127. 4:53he even uh when we were on our WhatsApp
  128. 4:56group discussing that we needed certain
  129. 4:57points on handling staff issues he came
  130. 5:00in and pitched in and gave some ideas.
  131. 5:03Then we had an impromptu evening session
  132. 5:05where we discussed a lot of things where
  133. 5:07we decided to you know chitchat and do a
  134. 5:09lot of uh discussions and got lot of
  135. 5:11insights on how we can manage our staff
  136. 5:15uh you know daily problems of our staffs
  137. 5:17in our clinic. Everybody has problems
  138. 5:18where people don't turn up on time.
  139. 5:20They're not responsible enough. They're
  140. 5:21not taking the roles and
  141. 5:22responsibilities seriously. So these
  142. 5:24things also got ironed out during these
  143. 5:27discussions.
  144. 5:27>> Wow. Amazing doctor. So um um in this
  145. 5:30program um considering you have spent
  146. 5:33this 3 months like we mentioned here you
  147. 5:36have given a lot of time, energy and
  148. 5:38even money right do you think you have
  149. 5:39gotten a value back out of? Oh yeah
  150. 5:41definitely I I definitely feel the key I
  151. 5:45would suggest is to start working and
  152. 5:49implementing this in your practices and
  153. 5:52uh see
  154. 5:54teachings are always great. It's the
  155. 5:57implementation which is a problem and
  156. 5:59there was a a class on activity based uh
  157. 6:03cost uh costing right and that is
  158. 6:05something we already implemented and we
  159. 6:07are seeing the changes we uh we we are
  160. 6:09trying to tag in pricing uh of our
  161. 6:13products or our services based on the
  162. 6:15activity and just not what the market
  163. 6:17price is. So the key important thing I
  164. 6:20feel is that we should actually start
  165. 6:23looking at the course uh in great
  166. 6:25detail. Look at the notes, study, work
  167. 6:27hard, get back to your books and then
  168. 6:30implement it. I'm sure it's going to
  169. 6:31give great benefits to everybody who's
  170. 6:34trying to enroll for this uh program.
  171. 6:36>> Right. Dr. So um now um cons uh this uh
  172. 6:41do you think in terms of knowledge,
  173. 6:43future growth or even um opportunities
  174. 6:46do you think this you got a value back
  175. 6:48in terms of fees that you paid?
  176. 6:49>> Definitely there is no two ways about
  177. 6:51it. This definitely has value.
  178. 6:54>> Okay. So um there are so many uh
  179. 6:56dentists out there especially senior
  180. 6:58dentists who are struggling or facing
  181. 7:00challenges in their practice. Is there
  182. 7:02something you would like to tell them or
  183. 7:04probably whether this program is
  184. 7:06actually for other dentists as well?
  185. 7:09>> It's actually a program for uh more so
  186. 7:12for senior dentist because they are so
  187. 7:14skilled with their dentistry. They're
  188. 7:16delivering such good quality dental
  189. 7:18treatment to their patients. But what we
  190. 7:20actually all of us I mean if I consider
  191. 7:23myself 15 17 years into practice what we
  192. 7:26all of us lack is how to manage it as a
  193. 7:29business finally and see at the end of
  194. 7:32the day uh doing ethical practice is the
  195. 7:36bare minimum thing which you can offer
  196. 7:38to your patients but also you need to
  197. 7:40understand that this is where your bread
  198. 7:42and butter is going to come from your
  199. 7:44children's educations your lifestyle
  200. 7:46everything depends on your how well you
  201. 7:48run your clinic and if we have that
  202. 7:50sorted that will definitely help us go a
  203. 7:53long long way. So it is for anybody
  204. 7:55who's wanting to start off or actually
  205. 7:58the senior practitioners who are already
  206. 8:00delivering good dentistry that is very
  207. 8:02very given but what is needed is how to
  208. 8:05understand the business side of
  209. 8:06dentistry. All right Dr. Great thank you
  210. 8:09so much for your time so much and it was
  211. 8:11a lovely experience with ISB and the
  212. 8:13entire staff. Hearts off to you and this
  213. 8:15campus is mind-blowing. Absolutely
  214. 8:17mind-blowing. Thank you so much. Great.
  215. 8:19Thank you. Thank you, Dr. N.
