- 0:05Leed is a story of environmental
- 0:06Injustice maybe people call it
- 0:09environmental racism so it
- 0:10disproportionately impacts low-income
- 0:12minority children um Flint already had a
- 0:15higher rate Le poisoning Detroit does uh
- 0:17and around the nation it impacts these
- 0:19low-income vulnerable children because
- 0:21of lack of control over where they live
- 0:22so usually poor housing stock exposed to
- 0:24lead paint and also because of
- 0:26pre-existing poor nutrition but my role
- 0:28as a pediatrician is also to be an
- 0:30advocate it's part of my job description
- 0:32it's what I train as The Residency
- 0:34director which is my real job that's how
- 0:35we train our residents to be Advocates
- 0:38um because children can't vote they
- 0:40can't tell you I need better gun control
- 0:43they can't tell you these things so it
- 0:44is your job to do this I I'm gladly
- 0:47working with this governor and I don't
- 0:49care about apologies whatever happened
- 0:51happen but I have to work with this
- 0:53governor and I probably have to work
- 0:55with the next five governors on this
- 0:57issue when you consider the consequences
- 0:59of lead so I will do whatever it takes
- 1:02you know to get these kids the resources
- 1:04they need if you have a voice and you're
- 1:07working with a population that has no
- 1:09voice use your
- 1:11voice especially for such an underserved
- 1:15population that has been neglected for
- 1:17decades that is my professional
- 1:19responsibility that is why I work in
- 1:21Flint that I choose to be there in that
- 1:25capacity um so go out into these
- 1:28communities because they need you um
- 1:31they need your expertise they need what
- 1:33you learn here um to to be the voice
- 1:36when this just lack a political and
- 1:44capital
