Douglas Murray | 'The Incoherence of LGBTQI+' #CLIP — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00I wrote
- 0:01a piece in the Spectator in the UK in
- 0:02support of gay marriage before it was
- 0:04popular to be in support of gay marriage
- 0:05and explain what I regard as being the
- 0:07conservative case for it, which was an
- 0:10article which David Cameron used as a
- 0:11basis for his first main speech on the
- 0:14issue. Um,
- 0:16I defended it as a right, but I also am
- 0:17worried by and have been worried for a
- 0:19long time by the extraordinary
- 0:20intolerance of elements of the so-called
- 0:22gay community, which I say so-called cuz
- 0:24there is no such thing.
- 0:26Yeah.
- 0:27I mean you know
- 0:28So, this is one of the interesting
- 0:29aspects of this.
- 0:30Um, there there must be a
- 0:32there are a lot of gay people who don't
- 0:33want to be defined by their sexuality.
- 0:35There are a whole heap of other things.
- 0:37Yeah.
- 0:38They're citizens, they're
- 0:39they might be boilermakers, they might
- 0:41be Sydney as you know city executives or
- 0:44what have you. But suddenly there's an
- 0:46insistence that they define themselves.
- 0:48Yeah, and this is this has come in very
- 0:50recently.
- 0:52And it's come in in each of the ones I
- 0:53describe, and it's a basis for madness.
- 0:57Um,
- 0:58uh, when people say the gay community,
- 1:00who are you talking about?
- 1:02It's like women think this. Oh, really?
- 1:0650% of the species all agree on
- 1:08something.
- 1:10Uh, blacks say this.
- 1:13Really?
- 1:14Mhm.
- 1:15Um, now
- 1:17This is let me put it another way. If if
- 1:19somebody said
- 1:21I don't know. Um
- 1:23I just love the working class.
- 1:26They
- 1:27Who?
- 1:28Yeah.
- 1:29Um, I just love the middle class. Who? I
- 1:31love the upper class. Who who who are
- 1:32you talking about?
- 1:34And it's the same with this. Why why
- 1:36would we be why would we be falling for
- 1:38this interpretation of society as
- 1:40depending solely
- 1:43or primarily on interest groups based on
- 1:46gender / sex, sexual orientation, race,
- 1:50and a bit more. Why would we be doing
- 1:52that? Why would we be taking the
- 1:54individualism out of individuals and
- 1:57lumping them in these demonstrably
- 2:00incoherent bodies that don't even exist.
- 2:05They don't even exist.
- 2:07The LGBT community.
- 2:09Take me to your leader.
- 2:12Come on.
- 2:13I suppose in a way, you know, in in
- 2:14public office, the thing that would have
- 2:16struck me about so much of this is that
- 2:18it it actually ends up dividing us
- 2:20hopelessly. So, we're forever focusing
- 2:22on the on our differences, on the things
- 2:24that divide us as citizens, rather than
- 2:27the things that unite us and that we
- 2:28have in common.
- 2:30What if that's the point?
- 2:32Well, that's
- 2:33that's the point?
- 2:34Yeah. So, that's your second chapter is
- 2:37is really on uh
- 2:38On the Marxist
- 2:39On the Marxist thing. Now, now, now this
- 2:41pulling together
- 2:43of of disparate groups who have
- 2:45grievances that can be stoked and sort
- 2:47of uh if you like, used as battering
- 2:50rams for political objectives,
- 2:52often without them probably even
- 2:54realizing that in a sense they're being
- 2:56used, that perhaps they're they're the
- 2:58modern version of Lenin's useful idiots.
- 3:00Yeah.
- 3:01Yeah, this is um this is there's a
- 3:03pattern in all of this.
- 3:05Uh as I say in that chapter, you can you
- 3:07can see the intellectual underpinnings.
- 3:10And they come from this idea that if you
- 3:13it's a it's a Marxist idea, but it's
- 3:15just transferred to the modern era,
- 3:17where instead of talking about society
- 3:19and class structures, you talk about it
- 3:21in minority interest group structures.
- 3:23And you lump people like this. What What
- 3:25is What is the primary aim of this?
- 3:28Uh um among other things, it is a
- 3:31different interpretation of society,
- 3:33which is therefore intended to segregate
- 3:37and pull apart societies as you and I
- 3:39might understand them.
- 3:41So, that people's primary affiliation is
- 3:43not that I'm an Australian, but or I'm
- 3:46British, but I'm a member of the LGBT
- 3:49community in the greater Sydney area,
- 3:52for instance.
- 3:54Um
- 3:55you can predict with 100% accuracy
- 3:59the people who encourage this.
- 4:03The people who will grab the latest
- 4:06claim by an interest group and run with
- 4:09it. And it is always people, always
- 4:12people
- 4:13who
- 4:15in the past had another way of trying to
- 4:17attack our societies.
- 4:19Had a radical Marxist view of the world,
- 4:21for instance. We know this with the
- 4:23green issue, where and again, like like
- 4:26the rights issues I write about in this
- 4:28book,
- 4:30they succeed because they're not onto
- 4:32nothing, you know.
- 4:34Um the green uh uh movement
- 4:37is onto something with the environment
- 4:39and with our planet.
- 4:41But it has this hideous red interior,
- 4:44which keeps exposing itself as desiring
- 4:48not
- 4:49not a better relationship between
- 4:51ourselves and our environment, but for
- 4:53instance, the end of capitalism.
- 4:55And it's the same with this. Uh uh I
- 4:58expose in each of the chapters that the
- 5:01people who make it repeatedly and
- 5:03desperately plain
- 5:05that they believe, for instance, that
- 5:07being a woman
- 5:09is should be merely the first step in a
- 5:12wider mission to bring down capitalism.
- 5:15Now,
- 5:17I don't think most women are on board
- 5:18with that, and most women would be
- 5:19rather surprised to be utilized in this
- 5:21fashion.
- 5:23But that is very clearly and
- 5:26explicitly, and I quote the the various
- 5:29scholars and writers who've been pushing
- 5:30this for years. This is explicitly the
- 5:33aim. And it's why, as I say, you can
- 5:35always predict exactly who is going to
- 5:37latch onto the latest claim. When when,
- 5:40for instance, the big bearded man
- 5:44with male genitalia
- 5:46wins the women's weightlifting
- 5:48competition, you can predict with 100%
- 5:51accuracy who is going to say, "Yeah,
- 5:53what's the problem with that?" And the
- 5:55people who are going to say,
- 5:57"Hmm,
- 5:58I'm not sure Clive the big weightlifter
- 6:01should be winning the women's category."
- 6:03You can predict it. And the people who
- 6:05say,
- 6:06"Why have you got a problem with that,
- 6:08bigot?" are
- 6:09always the same people who believed in
- 6:12the past that our societies needed to be
- 6:14pulled apart in another fashion.
- 6:16And now they'd like to do it in this
- 6:18fashion.
