- 0:00Brandon with P3 News and Reviews here
- 0:02doing another little unboxing here. Got
- 0:06the uh Go FSP 200M. This is a foldable
- 0:11solar panel. This is a hard solar panel.
- 0:14Um I opted to go with a hard solar panel
- 0:17over the flexible ones because mainly
- 0:20it's for home use. There's going to be
- 0:21some field use as well, but I wanted
- 0:24something that was durable, could last
- 0:27out in the elements for a little bit. uh
- 0:29say in the event of a longer term power
- 0:31outage or anything like that, something
- 0:32that I could power any of my Blue Eddie
- 0:34power units that I have right now. I'm
- 0:36going to be testing this a little later
- 0:38with a EV3A. So, let's get here to the
- 0:41unboxing. Uh this is straight from our
- 0:44favorite A to Z site. Uh paid for by me
- 0:47with my funds. Uh no sponsorship here.
- 0:51Uh so there's a little damage here on
- 0:53the box. You can see uh hopefully
- 0:55there's everything inside is fine.
- 1:12So, it is wrapped in
- 1:14foam. It's okay foam. Nothing overly
- 1:19spectacular. We'll see here as we open
- 1:23it up.
- 1:25So far, the phone looks okay. There's a
- 1:28little rattles. Hopefully, that is just
- 1:30some of those cords and stuff that this
- 1:32thing comes
- 1:33with. So, as I open this up, so like I
- 1:36was saying, I chose a hard panel. I
- 1:38wanted something that could last a
- 1:39little bit in the elements if I needed
- 1:41to for longer term power outages or
- 1:44battery backup usage.
- 1:47Um, also a lot of the portable units
- 1:50that are out there that are affordable
- 1:52that are flexible have um only kind of
- 1:56so reviews in general. Even the most
- 1:59popular BL brands from Blue Eddie to
- 2:04um EcoFlow and all those other guys. I'm
- 2:07just going to have to slice this open
- 2:10somehow.
- 2:15Um, as far as long-term usage,
- 2:18especially when exposed to the elements,
- 2:21I don't want to have to worry about that
- 2:23right now. Storage is not a concern of
- 2:26mine. Maybe my wife's, but not of
- 2:33mine. They do use a decent amount of
- 2:36tape here to keep everything together.
- 2:41So, let's see here what we've
- 2:51got. Again, just like all my unboxings,
- 2:54full one take jobs. No editing here for
- 2:58any
- 2:59unboxing. So, initial impression. Um,
- 3:03while it is supposed to be a glass
- 3:05surface, it is a uh kind of like a satin
- 3:08finish glass surface. Let's get this out
- 3:11of
- 3:13here. Um, what I also
- 3:17notice is there's some specks in the
- 3:19panels. Now, it is very consistent on
- 3:23that side. Let's see on this side here.
- 3:25Okay. So, I think that is part of the
- 3:26manufacturing process, not anything
- 3:29trapped under the glass. Initially, I
- 3:31thought it might be something trapped
- 3:32under the glass. So, from the pictures,
- 3:36I liked it had a decent carry handle
- 3:38from what people said, these nice little
- 3:41metal
- 3:47latches. And let's open up. So
- 3:55inside inside we have our solar charge
- 3:59controller, a variety
- 4:01of cable
- 4:05connectors and the carrying
- 4:13bag. The carrying bag's okay. It's a
- 4:16kind of plasticized nylon or vinylized
- 4:19nylon.
- 4:20The zipper, I can see some people have
- 4:22said the zipper has come apart after
- 4:26some uses. Um, so yeah, it actually has
- 4:28a a vinylbacked nylon that is sewn in.
- 4:32So I can see that degradating over time.
- 4:35Um, nice little pocket to store all your
- 4:38cables and stuff in
- 4:40here. Charge controller. Nothing overly
- 4:44fancy. So we'll set that off to the side
- 4:46for right now as well.
- 4:48Um, charge
- 4:54controller. So, charge controller on
- 4:57these, nothing overly fancy. I am not a
- 5:00solar expert, so
- 5:02again, you can check out some of those
- 5:05high dollar channels there. Um, what's
- 5:08nice on this charge controller here is
- 5:09that you've got your standard outputs,
- 5:12uh, connectors, but also has USB. I did
- 5:15like that. So I could directly charge
- 5:17say a phone or a battery bank. I
- 5:20actually prefer to charge battery banks
- 5:21via solar. The phone battery banks. Um
- 5:24I've used a little of panels in the
- 5:26past. Uh the foldable ones for hiking
- 5:28and
- 5:29backpacking. That tends to be the best
- 5:31way to do it. If you plug your phone
- 5:32directly in, the charge is negligent,
- 5:36but those battery pack units tend to
- 5:38tend to do it better.
- 5:40Um, your information packet here on the
- 5:43charge controller, how that all
- 5:49works on here. Oh, that's kind of nice.
- 5:54So, a bonus to do. Um, they include a
- 5:58couple extra four extra corner
- 6:01protectors. So, I saw a couple people
- 6:03had these broken in shipping or have
- 6:05broken them in the past. A good plus to
- 6:09them for putting that on there. Um so
- 6:13here we have our connectors. Um these
- 6:15are that is a female connector, female
- 6:18to DC connector. So you can plug
- 6:19directly into the board there. Um you
- 6:23can plug directly uh as well
- 6:29um directly on the board. That's all
- 6:32that goes. Um you have your battery
- 6:36charge connector. So, this is a female.
- 6:38These are male. Male out. Hold
- 6:43on. No, I guess that's a female.
- 6:45Actually, that's the male. These are
- 6:48male connectors. So, it does have your
- 6:50battery port there. Clamps to connect to
- 6:53a battery unit.
- 6:56Um, well, they are technically clamps.
- 7:00uh quality
- 7:03is sufficient. If you're long-term using
- 7:06these, I would definitely
- 7:08uh swap out for different clamps.
- 7:12Um a lot of plastic there, a little bit
- 7:14of metal. I have a feeling those would
- 7:16break with regular usage.
- 7:23uh
- 7:25a male connector with raw ends so you
- 7:29can make your own cord to go into there
- 7:31for anything that you need and
- 7:37[Music]
- 7:39uh variety of direct port adapters. So
- 7:43um these will fit most of your battery
- 7:45pack units. So you would charge directly
- 7:47from the panel to your battery unit.
- 7:52like this guy here,
- 7:56EV3A. Um, put that off to the side for
- 7:59right now. That unit is about
- 8:0260%. So, I'll uh cut this video after
- 8:06the unboxing to show it charging. Um,
- 8:08but a variety of cables there that'll
- 8:10connect to most battery pack units if
- 8:12you don't have that direct.
- 8:15Um, a downside I guess you would say is
- 8:18that it does not have your standard
- 8:20solar panel connectors that a lot of
- 8:22stuff comes with these days. This is
- 8:24what came with the Blue Eddie
- 8:28EB3A. But, um, but with this unit, you
- 8:31can obviously make that. You can get
- 8:33adapters, I'm sure, uh, to go to that to
- 8:37string more of these panels together if
- 8:38you really wanted to. Uh, so this unit
- 8:41here, how this works. So you plug in
- 8:44your panel to that and you would plug
- 8:50in whatever you would need. So this is
- 8:53your battery cable and this you can make
- 8:55to directly to lights and of course any
- 8:58USB cable that you wanted to plug in
- 9:00right there. And you've got a
- 9:02satisfactory
- 9:04unit. The charge controller on these
- 9:07I've heard is okay from initial reviews.
- 9:11Again, this is not
- 9:13a 10-year solution, but this is should
- 9:16hopefully power me through most minor
- 9:20power outages, especially after the more
- 9:22recent hurricanes that everybody has
- 9:25seen on the news with long-term power
- 9:27outages in places rather far away from
- 9:30where you would have expected
- 9:33it. We'll put that all back together
- 9:35there.
- 9:47I really like that they included extra
- 9:49ones of those. They're cheap plastic,
- 9:51but hey, um, good for them for including
- 9:53something that, you know, someone is
- 9:55going to complain about endlessly when
- 9:57it breaks or in shipping or after the
- 9:59first usage or something like that
- 10:01because their dog stepped on it.
- 10:04The other nice thing I like about this
- 10:06is that it had your built-in
- 10:08stands. Um, so your stands
- 10:11here, you can control your
- 10:14angle.
- 10:17Um, so set here by a wing
- 10:20nut. Tighten
- 10:24down. Should suffice. It wiggles a
- 10:27little bit, but what can I expect? I
- 10:29bought this unit here for uh right just
- 10:34over 150 about $160 on a
- 10:40special but anyhow so this is the unit
- 10:43itself model FSP 2000M 200 watt foldable
- 10:48solar
- 10:49panel I'm 6t tall so you can see where
- 10:54this ends up roughly about 5t wide by
- 10:58about 2 ft. Um, about 2 feet tall. So,
- 11:02I'm going to cut the video here and we
- 11:04will take this outside, put this thing
- 11:06in the sun, see how she
- 11:13does. Okay, quick little cut to the
- 11:15inside here. Uh, this is the back uh
- 11:18controller here, how it's all welded
- 11:20into the panel um or comes into the
- 11:22panel. So, this is a little hinge box.
- 11:24It does have a rubber seal. Um, the
- 11:27connectors, you're going to have to use
- 11:28a screwdriver to pop it open. That's
- 11:31your hinge side there. That's your your
- 11:33latch side. I'm going to zoom in here.
- 11:36Pardon the shaky camera work,
- 11:42but so there we go. So, we can see the
- 11:45connectors. Uh, they are soldered right
- 11:48through there. Um, so quality is not
- 11:52shabby. Uh, there's your your seal. Um,
- 11:56from what everybody says, sorry about
- 11:58the focusing. Uh, from what everybody
- 12:00says, you really want the soldering, not
- 12:02just a screw connector or crimp
- 12:04connector. The, uh,
- 12:07little where the wire comes through
- 12:10here, it looks like
- 12:12it's mostly just a thing through. I have
- 12:16a feeling I'm going to probably put a
- 12:17dab of silicone on those wires. That
- 12:19looks like a water intrusion point. But
- 12:22again, this is the top of the panel
- 12:24right there. Uh, this is the bottom. So,
- 12:27water would be hardressed to get
- 12:29inside.
- 12:31Um, next up, we're going to set this
- 12:33thing
- 12:40up. Okay, so here we go. I already have
- 12:44the legs set up to deploy on this unit.
- 12:48We're going to point this straight at
- 12:49the sun. This is facing south.
- 12:54ideal angle. Um, work on that. Uh, so
- 12:59let's plug this guy up.
- 13:24Okay, so we have this unit set up here.
- 13:26The legs, uh, they do come out a little
- 13:28bit,
- 13:30whether looks like the bracket could be
- 13:33tightened a little bit, but I would be
- 13:36careful high winds with this, but I
- 13:39think if you throw some weights on these
- 13:42these things, it'll be pretty solid. So,
- 13:45on the back of the unit, here's the
- 13:46plug. FYI, if you don't know about
- 13:49Velcro straps, get Velcro straps for
- 13:51cord ties. I already put one on there
- 13:54because Yeah, seriously,
- 13:56people. One of my very good
- 13:59friends showed me that trick years and
- 14:02years
- 14:03ago. So, we're going to plug it here
- 14:05into the charge controller straight up
- 14:07off the bat.
- 14:09So, right now there's no load. It is
- 14:12saying I'm getting uh let's
- 14:16see 17 volts and falling. Let's see
- 14:21here. Try to figure out
- 14:26the
- 14:32see. So this here simple
- 14:35controller there's
- 14:39nothing. So, it's sending about
- 14:48um cycle through
- 14:51here panel voltage, battery voltage,
- 14:53which there's no battery hooked up right
- 14:55now.
- 14:57[Music]
- 14:59Um so, we'll unplug that, mess with that
- 15:05later. That's mostly if you have a
- 15:07regular battery. Uh, so this guy here,
- 15:09like I said, comes with a variety of the
- 15:11adapters. This large one here is going
- 15:13to be for the Blue Eddie power station,
- 15:17as you can see, plugs right in there.
- 15:20See? Perfect. Okay, so really convenient
- 15:23as far as what this
- 15:25does. Plug that into the connector. Plug
- 15:28this here into that. Turn Blue Eddie
- 15:32on. Okay, so right now I'm at 63% no
- 15:36charge. We're going to plug this guy
- 15:42in. Right now, it's showing
- 15:45input
- 15:47of 60 watts, 123
- 15:52watts, 144. Right now, you can feel the
- 15:57sun. 144 watts. Stable. Um, charging.
- 16:03Estimated time 6 hours.
- 16:06to get it up
- 16:10there to a full battery. So, uh 144
- 16:14watts coming in from this 200 watt solar
- 16:16panel. Again, this is a fall day. Uh
- 16:18this is being recorded uh towards the
- 16:21end the later half of October
- 16:24um from Indiana, central
- 16:27Indiana. So, sun conditions at least for
- 16:30this time of day uh this time of year
- 16:33are pretty good. Uh, no clouds, nothing.
- 16:36Um, it's
- 16:37pointed directly at the sun. I'm sure I
- 16:40could adjust the angles a little bit
- 16:42more on this to get even more ideal, but
- 16:45so far I'm very happy. Uh, we'll see
- 16:47here. I'm going to let this charge up
- 16:49for a while and see how she does. Um,
- 16:52and we'll come back. Thank you
- 16:54everybody. P3 News and Reviews. If you
- 16:56like what you're seeing, please like,
- 16:58share, subscribe. Um, trying to get up
- 17:00here so we can monetize the channel
- 17:02eventually. But again, everything that
- 17:05you see here is bought by me for me and
- 17:09let you guys take a look at what we've
- 17:11got going on. And for your information
- 17:13as well, again, this is the Do
- 17:17um 200 watt panel. It's the FSP 200M.
- 17:22Two individual 100 watt panels. It's
- 17:24combined for a total uh 200 watts.
- 17:26Foldable, portable handle. Uh not this
- 17:31is a solid panel. So, if you're
- 17:33interested, you can find it on your
- 17:35favorite A Toz site. Um, I will try to
- 17:38share links in the comments. Thank you
- 17:39very much, guys. We'll catch you later.
- 17:42Okay, we're around back of the unit
- 17:44here. Checking on progress. We've got
- 17:46the EB3A plugged in here. So, she's
- 17:50coming in
- 17:52at
- 17:53139
- 17:56watts. About a half an hour left. She's
- 17:59been bouncing in between 135 and 145
- 18:02depending upon exactly on the sun. Moved
- 18:05her out to the full sun here. So, not
- 18:08too shabby. Middle of October, central
- 18:10Indiana. I think this panel is doing
- 18:13pretty darn well. Again, I'm not a solar
- 18:15expert, but she's doing okay.
