- 0:00Wait, this might be wrong. They fucked
- 0:02that up. I spent years mixing this
- 0:03[music] shit and you don't understand
- 0:05what I'm saying.
- 0:09>> [music]
- 0:12>> It's lit.
- 0:13Um, I think it's like a ad-lib, man.
- 0:16Um, I want to maybe antidote.
- 0:19I feel like it might have been antidote.
- 0:21>> [music]
- 0:23>> I was so turnt this day and excited.
- 0:27It's the first thing that came to my
- 0:28mind and I think I screamed it so loud
- 0:31it sounded like I was like yelling in a
- 0:33high-pitched voice and
- 0:35yeah,
- 0:36I haven't let it go since.
- 0:39What is life I cannot change in the
- 0:40hills deep off in the maid. Wow,
- 0:43butterfly effect.
- 0:45>> [music]
- 0:46[singing]
- 0:49>> Song special, I made this song about a
- 0:51special someone and yeah, they lived off
- 0:54in the hills.
- 0:57In LA, [clears throat]
- 0:58Calabasas or whatever the fuck.
- 1:02Pulled out of the hood Toyota, drove
- 1:04back drove back to the hood and ball.
- 1:06Deep in the trap.
- 1:08>> [music]
- 1:11>> That Toyota is what got me through
- 1:15a couple months cuz I didn't really even
- 1:16have a car like that. It was a
- 1:19shit box but I drove it.
- 1:23I wrecked it, spare tire, no tire,
- 1:26riding on rims, putting water in the,
- 1:29you know, in the whatever the fuck that
- 1:31shit is. And then after that I was like,
- 1:32you know what, my friends like drove me
- 1:34around everywhere. And also my homie
- 1:35Dozie had a Toyota Corolla that um,
- 1:38he used to pick me up and
- 1:40um, thank you Dozie. And now
- 1:42yes, we're
- 1:44we're going back in
- 1:46Lamborghinis. Which is cool. What we
- 1:49fuck about these cars is to just like
- 1:50look at them and shit. Don't touch it.
- 1:52Man, you got to drive that shit.
- 1:54If I tell you to my past you'll will
- 1:56traumatized. Got a thousand kids outside
- 1:58that's trying to come alive. Stargazing.
- 2:00>> If I take you to [music] my past, you
- 2:01would be traumatized.
- 2:03>> To me, the beginning of the song is like
- 2:05psychedelic and like supposed to be like
- 2:07euphoric. Takes you to a
- 2:09some sort of form of ecstasy, not the
- 2:11drug, but just the feeling of like
- 2:13seeing what you're trying to do and then
- 2:15life hits you. This is the first song on
- 2:17Astro World and right now lyric is like
- 2:20the second half of the song like when it
- 2:21drops and I really wanted to
- 2:25create this feeling of like high energy
- 2:28and the travels that I've taken to get
- 2:31to where I was at and you know, like
- 2:34meeting people along the way. You're
- 2:35like, "Man, if you just knew like, you
- 2:37know,
- 2:38what I seen or like, you know, the
- 2:40struggles I went through, you'll
- 2:42probably like, 'Oh my god. You know what
- 2:43I'm saying? Like this is so crazy. How
- 2:45are you even here today?'" You know what
- 2:46I'm saying? To now seeing
- 2:48you know, at shows you know, thousands,
- 2:51you know, hundreds of thousands of
- 2:52people, you know, I'm doing stadiums and
- 2:54stuff now. Like that I did to actually
- 2:56like, you know, rage and have the best
- 2:58time ever. So, you know, it was good to
- 2:59see like
- 3:01the travels I took are inspiring
- 3:03someone. I feel like everyone can relate
- 3:05to, you know, coming from somewhere that
- 3:07might not been the best situation or or
- 3:10maybe you thought wasn't the best
- 3:11situation. You always want to aspire to,
- 3:13you know, do something greater for them
- 3:14and yourself and for your family. So, I
- 3:15think in general people can relate with
- 3:17that. Cudi was like that artist for me
- 3:19where I was listening to his music I was
- 3:21like, "Man, I feel like he's living like
- 3:22the same type of house as me like are we
- 3:24standing in the same crib, bro?" Like
- 3:26it's crazy. I felt like our lives are
- 3:27like um similar. And so, I've just
- 3:30listening through that I was like
- 3:31getting me through like every day and
- 3:33it's like, "Okay, if he can make it to
- 3:34the other side, so can I." And so, it's
- 3:36important for me to at least have
- 3:38something that people can like relate
- 3:39to. You know, so giving that sort of
- 3:40insight. You know, hopefully they can
- 3:43come out other side inspired, you know.
- 3:46When I'm sipping that kombucha, you need
- 3:48a pink straw. I'm going to introduce it
- 3:50to the youth right now. Yeah.
- 3:52Veen.
- 3:53>> When I'm sipping that kombucha
- 3:56>> Went on tour for 2 and 1/2 years and
- 3:59people like got an understanding of what
- 4:00I meant, but
- 4:01>> Fein.
- 4:02>> And just the energy. But yeah, you know,
- 4:04that was like a beat I made and my whole
- 4:06intentions behind even just when I made
- 4:08the beat and made the song was to see it
- 4:10come alive like that. So to even see it
- 4:12like actually connect to my lovers is
- 4:15>> [snorts]
- 4:16>> fucking exciting.
- 4:18>> Kicking the cameraman off my stages all
- 4:20I had snap for him.
- 4:22>> Yeah.
- 4:24Antidote.
- 4:26>> I had the song done
- 4:28and I had two verses on it. It's like,
- 4:30"Oh, actually I need a rap verse." Then
- 4:31I actually did this Hot 97, I think it
- 4:33was. When they had me performing,
- 4:35you know, outside the stadium, you know,
- 4:38beginner artist stages. And I think
- 4:41people understand like I don't like
- 4:42cameras and especially I don't like
- 4:44cameras on stage while I'm performing.
- 4:46It is more so like a artistic thing.
- 4:48It's like the stage is meant to be set
- 4:50up a certain way. And obviously when you
- 4:51go to these like radio shows, there's a
- 4:53bunch of like everyone's trying to get
- 4:54content. You got people all on the
- 4:56stages. But
- 4:57I've always wanted to set a tone of
- 4:59performance in my performance of what I
- 5:01expect, you know, on any stage that I
- 5:03want to be on. Maybe how I did it to the
- 5:05guy may might not have been the right
- 5:07way and I fuck with him. I know he's
- 5:08just doing his job. When I'm in that
- 5:10mode on stage, I'm just like all
- 5:12adrenaline. Yeah, you know, I fuck with
- 5:14that guy.
- 5:16No harm.
- 5:19She probably heard in the Guinness we
- 5:21have the top floor right there off of
- 5:22Doheny.
- 5:23Wow, goosebumps.
- 5:28Yeah, this is the apartment I had in LA
- 5:29on Doheny. It's actually the apartment
- 5:31that I recorded Goosebumps in. You know,
- 5:32I was going through something and I
- 5:35literally just made that album.
- 5:37And it was like a therapy session for
- 5:39myself. So, yeah, I literally went in
- 5:41the room and I did the song and then I
- 5:43was like, "Yeah, but yeah, that
- 5:45apartment, you know, is how the
- 5:47goosebumps came alive.
- 5:51Used to live up in the 7th. Now bought
- 5:54two streets. It's from a song called
- 5:56Father with my brother Yae.
- 5:59>> [music]
- 6:00>> I'm from the 713, Houston, Texas. Now I
- 6:02have
- 6:04a couple of streets there.
- 6:06Um which is a blessing. Which is cool
- 6:09about this song is that we did this in
- 6:12Japan. We made cooked this song on the
- 6:14spot like like random just right there.
- 6:16And Yae just had this verse in his
- 6:18brain. Like, oh, I got to get this off.
- 6:21And you know, in our careers, it's
- 6:22interesting to see like, you know, all
- 6:23the things he taught me from a mentor or
- 6:26from a music standpoint. And so now like
- 6:28bring that and share together on the
- 6:30record is you know, it's fucking ill.
- 6:34>> [snorts]
- 6:35>> Um a trick to break the walls of Troy.
- 6:38Yes. Yeah, this is the sixth line in the
- 6:41movie The Odyssey.
- 6:43>> A trick
- 6:47to break the walls of Troy.
- 6:49>> Also like part of original song which
- 6:51I'm so happy
- 6:52that I am a part of. And especially for
- 6:55like a film like this, even to be in the
- 6:57movie is amazing. Like, you know, I'm
- 6:59pretty sure all these people are like
- 7:01straight Thespians and something I
- 7:02aspired to be when I was a kid. You
- 7:04know, to go through that zone and
- 7:06process and see how they work and things
- 7:08come to life and how they treat, you
- 7:11know, waking up at 5:00 a.m. and, you
- 7:13know, leaving at 5:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m.
- 7:15whatever it is every day. You know, even
- 7:18just the things that they went through
- 7:20shooting that movie. Like, everything is
- 7:22like so real. I, you know, praise what
- 7:25they do. It actually took me to another
- 7:27place like, okay, wow.
- 7:29Yeah, this isn't the studio.
- 7:32Chris called me. He was like, "Yo, you
- 7:33think you want to be in a movie?" And
- 7:35I'm like, "Yeah." You know what I'm
- 7:36saying? So he was like, "Man, I'm I'm
- 7:38about to start shooting, you know, this
- 7:39movie called The Odyssey. Like, I got
- 7:41this idea." You know, he start me about
- 7:43you know the bar role and you know how
- 7:46the connection between even just being
- 7:47an artist and you know through rap it's
- 7:49like a form of like
- 7:51in some sense like poetry and I'm like
- 7:54okay
- 7:55but what's the idea?
- 7:57He's like well
- 7:59I want you to open it. I'm like all
- 8:00right bro like
- 8:02He's like well just come pull up on me
- 8:03like you know you can come see it if you
- 8:05down to do it.
- 8:06I'm like of course I'm I'm down to do it
- 8:08you know I don't give a fuck what it is
- 8:09and you know I was just a little bit
- 8:11like I'm like
- 8:13thrown off by it and I show up the first
- 8:14day and I'm thinking like oh it's just
- 8:17going to be me and him
- 8:19couple extras you know maybe like a
- 8:21couple cast mates you know no it was
- 8:23everybody right?
- 8:25>> [laughter]
- 8:25>> You know and I was like fuck you know
- 8:28when I saw the film in IMAX for the
- 8:30first time I mean it was wild like I
- 8:33mean my guy Dave was like kicking me
- 8:36he's like what the fuck I'm like bro
- 8:38shut up like
- 8:39and I was like
- 8:40>> [clears throat]
- 8:40>> he's like oh this is crazy but even me
- 8:42I'm like oh this is insane.
- 8:46All of these hoes I made records I
- 8:47produced all of these hoes I made off
- 8:48records I produced all of these hoes
- 8:51they fucked that up all of these hoes
- 8:53like
- 8:55zeros like dollars dollar amounts I made
- 8:57off of these records I produced which is
- 8:59also like a
- 9:01play on hoes I might take all my exes
- 9:03and put them all in the group.
- 9:05>> All of these [music] hoes I made off
- 9:06records I produced
- 9:07>> You know the Sicko Mode is like another
- 9:09one of those songs where like from a
- 9:12beat standpoint you know shout out my
- 9:13boy OZ man and my boy
- 9:16Tay Keith yeah you know that song was
- 9:18always like in a sense like special you
- 9:21know what I'm saying just from a beat
- 9:22standpoint.
- 9:23I always felt like it's kind of like
- 9:25Feelin It that song on the album it's
- 9:27just like one of my faves you know it
- 9:29was just one of my faves you know
- 9:31whether it connected or not it just felt
- 9:32like it was going to be
- 9:33yeah.
- 9:36He go shitting on you but I barely
- 9:38farted.
- 9:39Um
- 9:41This is Houston fornication, I think.
- 9:44Shitting on you but I barely farted. I
- 9:46believe, right?
- 9:48>> [snorts]
- 9:51>> Mhm, shitting on you but I barely
- 9:53farted.
- 9:54Oh, not hooch. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Think
- 9:56I'm shitting on you but I barely [music]
- 9:58farted. Yeah, this is one of those girls
- 10:01that like had an Apple Music radio show
- 10:03that I was dropping music on.
- 10:06It's one of the songs. This is one of
- 10:07those songs where like, you know, I do a
- 10:08song and I'm like, "Yo, I got to put it
- 10:09out tomorrow."
- 10:10And that was one of them.
- 10:14It's the last days to the rodeo. Last
- 10:16night had me
- 10:18Last night had me down in the back
- 10:20comatose.
- 10:22Wait, this might be wrong.
- 10:25Is it the last days to the rodeo? Last
- 10:26night had me down in the back comatose.
- 10:29Yeah.
- 10:31This is mamacita.
- 10:32>> It's the last days to the rodeo. [music]
- 10:34Last night had me down in the back
- 10:36comatose.
- 10:36>> Oh, it's not in the back. It's See, this
- 10:39is why I like By the way, too, a lot of
- 10:41my lyrics are wrong on Genius and I used
- 10:44to like call them
- 10:45all the time. Like after my albums come
- 10:47out, I used to be like, "Yo, bro, it's
- 10:49like totally wrong."
- 10:50I don't [snorts] get how y'all get other
- 10:52people's lyrics right that like I'm fans
- 10:54of them but I know off rip you can't
- 10:56understand them. Like you got to really
- 10:57know the lingo
- 10:58to catch these lyrics. Like, how are
- 11:00y'all getting this shit? And I know I'm
- 11:01speaking clear as day. Like I spent
- 11:04years mixing this shit and you don't
- 11:05understand what I'm saying?
- 11:07No, but I said last night had me down in
- 11:09the back comatose. Then like part of
- 11:11this is not even proper like English.
- 11:12Like, last night had me down in the back
- 11:14comatose. Like, no.
- 11:16Yeah. So, yeah.
- 11:20>> [music]
