Does the Tesla Model Y L Make the Model X Obsolete? — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00We parked so close.
- 0:03No way.
- 0:07And if I have a kid and if I want to get
- 0:09easy access, I have all this space.
- 0:12Whereas in this car, it's like
- 0:14it's so tight. Tesla
- 0:22stopped making this. Then they made
- 0:24this. The new Tesla Model Y. Both of
- 0:27them six seats. But is the new Tesla
- 0:30Model Y L actually better? Or should you
- 0:32consider a used Tesla Model X instead?
- 0:35To find out, I'm testing the second and
- 0:37third row. How easy is it to get in and
- 0:40out? Cargo space, practicality, and what
- 0:42they're actually like to drive. I'll
- 0:44also answer some of the biggest
- 0:46questions, and by the end, we'll know
- 0:48which one is right for you. Starting
- 0:51with the reason many people are
- 0:52interested in a six-seater in the first
- 0:54place, the second row captain's [music]
- 0:55chairs in the Model Y. With the front
- 0:57seat all the way forward, I'm sitting
- 0:59here. Max back 15 in from here to here.
- 1:024 in of head space. I'm 6' 3 on a good
- 1:05day. 200 lb. I feel good. Manually
- 1:08adjustable headrest that you can move up
- 1:10and down. That is awesome. And in the
- 1:13Model Y, heated and ventilated seat. And
- 1:16you also get a powered armrest. So you
- 1:19push this button, armrest comes up. So I
- 1:22can sit like this. It feels very
- 1:24comfortable and soft. There's no like
- 1:26aggressive bolstering that causes me to
- 1:28feel uncomfortable. I like the feeling
- 1:30in the second row in the captain's
- 1:32chairs. Someone asked if the Model Y L
- 1:34second row recines further back than the
- 1:37Model X. Now, the difference with the
- 1:38Model Y already is that it's independent
- 1:41recline, independent forward and back.
- 1:43So, I'm going as far back as possible.
- 1:44And last time, my A level was kind of
- 1:46like here in the X. Climb back here. It
- 1:48is definitely more, but not like a crazy
- 1:50difference where I'm like in a lounge
- 1:52chair. You have dedicated air vents
- 1:54right on my face. Oh yeah, that's nice.
- 1:56You also have an 8 in center screen with
- 1:59more climate controls and more air here.
- 2:02Two USBC ports at the bottom and a cup
- 2:04holder here as well. This one you could
- 2:06play games, Netflix, all [music] that
- 2:08fun stuff. Seat back pockets, coat hook
- 2:10hangers, and a light. So very nice in
- 2:12the Model Y L second row. But what about
- 2:14the Model X? Bring it as far back as
- 2:16possible. So the way this seat works is
- 2:18it's kind of like a rocking mechanism.
- 2:20the whole seat moves.
- 2:22So, this is the max recline. This is it
- 2:24right here. It's comfortable. The Wild
- 2:26definitely has more recline compared to
- 2:28the X. My eye level is like right here.
- 2:30Almost the same. 15 1/2 in from my knee
- 2:33to here. Head space. Got to close this.
- 2:42It's already a huge difference. Feels
- 2:44more cramped in the second row because
- 2:46you have this gigantic piece here. It's
- 2:48a low piece. I camped in my Tesla X and
- 2:51I was very annoyed at this piece
- 2:52surprisingly. [music] And then you have
- 2:54a small window here. So from head to
- 2:56head, same 4 in. Wow. So still have 4 in
- 3:00of headroom. Very surprised by that. It
- 3:03feels nice because there's more space in
- 3:05between here to the to the person that's
- 3:08on here. However, there are little
- 3:11compromises. One good thing though is
- 3:13that you have tri-zone climate control
- 3:15in the Tesla X. You only have dual zone
- 3:17in the Model Y. very strong air vents
- 3:19that you can control to the screen. 9.4
- 3:22in screen. It has all the same features
- 3:24as the Tesla Model Y L. Play games,
- 3:27watch Netflix, all that stuff. You also
- 3:29don't get any sort of seat back pockets
- 3:30here. In the center, you do have two
- 3:32USBC ports. And you [music] also have a
- 3:34have a cup holder that's broken.
- 3:38There is cup holders in there. On the
- 3:40seats themselves, they are heated, but
- 3:42they are not ventilated. A fixed
- 3:45headrest as well. But what's nice is the
- 3:47seat belt is located on the seat itself.
- 3:50So when someone's getting in and out of
- 3:51the third row, it doesn't get in the
- 3:52way. But you don't get any air vents in
- 3:54here. Nothing to bring passive air on
- 3:57this side, unfortunately. And one
- 3:59difference is that it will get hot. So
- 4:01the owner of this vehicle put like all
- 4:03these sun shades on all the glass.
- 4:05Unlike the Tesla Model Y, which uses
- 4:07metallic tint, so the roof and the hatch
- 4:10is metallic tinted, rejects heat very,
- 4:12very well. The Model X doesn't have that
- 4:14at all on any of the windows. And
- 4:16another thing, you don't have an armrest
- 4:18for the captain's chairs. Like, no
- 4:20armrest to put your arm down here. It's
- 4:22just going to hang out there. Whatever.
- 4:24Comfortwise, for the captain's chairs,
- 4:26I'm going to have to give it to the
- 4:28Model Y L.
- 4:30But now we get to the reason both of
- 4:32these vehicles exist, the third row.
- 4:36Now, the Model Y L technically only has
- 4:38one real way to get in and out of the
- 4:40third row, and it's these captain's
- 4:42chairs. And this is a small fit. Okay.
- 4:46Okay. That's not good. From seat to
- 4:48seat, I'm getting approximately seven
- 4:50inches. Seven inches of a space to get
- 4:51in and out. Technically, you can lower
- 4:54this seat, but you can just go like this
- 4:56is all you can do. You have to kind of
- 4:57like mount this bad boy and get in
- 4:59there. You can't really bring the seat
- 5:01forward and go through the other way. I
- 5:03can't like sneak through this side. This
- 5:06car was not designed for that. They did
- 5:07redesign it, however, compared to the
- 5:09normal Model Y. They made this opening
- 5:11larger here. The door is different. It's
- 5:13bigger. It's so you have more easy
- 5:14access to get in and out. But there's a
- 5:16reason why a lot of the good third rows
- 5:19don't put the seat belt on the pillar
- 5:21here. [music] They put it on the seat
- 5:22itself. Because if a kid's trying to get
- 5:24in and out, what's going to get in the
- 5:25way?
- 5:27[music]
- 5:29So, the majority of people are just
- 5:32going to find a way to get in and out
- 5:34into the third row through the middle
- 5:35aisle here. But how comfortable is it?
- 5:38And can a 6'3 adult fit? I'm gonna bring
- 5:40this seat as far forward as possible.
- 5:43This is the part I like the least. We
- 5:46have a tiny step here. Sometimes it gets
- 5:48in the way, sometimes it doesn't,
- 5:50depending on how my back feels today.
- 5:52But I'm going to just make my way back
- 5:53here.
- 5:57Okay, I'm back. Now, if I was to put
- 6:00both my feet in the thing, I'll be
- 6:02insanely uncomfortable. We'll just do it
- 6:04for science. [music] From seat back to
- 6:06my knee is 3 and 12 inish. So leg space
- 6:09not bad when this seats all the way
- 6:11forward my head is touching here.
- 6:13However, if I stand like this, sit like
- 6:14this, like upright, my head is not
- 6:16touching and I have a solid half an inch
- 6:18of space. So overall, not too bad. But
- 6:21one great thing about this [music] that
- 6:23makes this trip so much better, I could
- 6:25probably spend a few hours in here if I
- 6:26have to. Dedicated air vents that
- 6:29actually work, shoots out cool air right
- 6:32here for you. Amazing. You also have a
- 6:34very large window here, so it doesn't
- 6:36feel cramped. Like I can see out there.
- 6:39I can see a lot out here. All these soft
- 6:41materials. You have nice elbow support
- 6:43with cup holder. Automatic recline. So
- 6:46you can bring this upwards and then
- 6:47bringing it back is all the way back
- 6:50there. And I can put my foot in the
- 6:52captain's chairs like this. But very
- 6:54comfortable back here. It's also two
- 6:56USBC [music] ports here that you can use
- 6:59as well. Now I wanted to answer two
- 7:01questions that a lot of people have.
- 7:03First, if you're in the third row, I
- 7:04tried this in another vehicle with my
- 7:07good buddy Olaf, and it smashed Olaf so
- 7:11good. But is it going [music] to smash
- 7:12Olaf in the Model Y? The switches are
- 7:15very close. A kid can easily press this
- 7:17switch here and close it. Let's see.
- 7:23But it did sense it. Remember, Olaf is
- 7:25like a marshmallow. It did sense it. It
- 7:27did come back up. Another question
- 7:28people wanted to know, can you use three
- 7:31seats and have one down? And I could put
- 7:33my seat belt on. It's kind of blocked,
- 7:36but not fully [music] blocked. So, I can
- 7:38still put my seat belt. Boom. Right
- 7:39there. Like that. Look at that. It's
- 7:41nice. And we'll do sound tests after,
- 7:43but they redesigned the Mon. There's
- 7:46speakers in the trunk. [music] There's
- 7:47speakers here. There's also microphones.
- 7:50So, if I say, "Hey, Grock,
- 7:52>> how's it going?"
- 7:52>> Not much.
- 7:53>> Cancel. You have two LED lights here.
- 7:56Great for camping. Very useful. It's
- 7:58just completely redesigned. Awesome job
- 8:00by Tesla for the Model Y.
- 8:02>> Okay, so like getting in and out, you
- 8:04have to mount this thing. But what about
- 8:06the flagship Tesla, the Tesla Model X?
- 8:09So to get into the third row, almost 13
- 8:11[music] in of space, almost double the
- 8:14amount of space. So if I bring this seat
- 8:16all the way forward with the Model X,
- 8:18there's multiple ways to get in and out
- 8:20of the third row compared to the Model
- 8:21Y. First is your 13-in space here. Like
- 8:25dude, like lunges in here. Look at this.
- 8:28So much space. But one of my personal
- 8:30favorites because the Model X has the
- 8:32falcon wing door. If you look at the
- 8:34door opening, it's shaped like this. At
- 8:36the push of a button, the rocking seat
- 8:38rocks forward and it allows people, kids
- 8:41to have a great opening right here. Tons
- 8:43of opening space for you to get in and
- 8:44out into the third row just like that.
- 8:48Easy. But then the fun stuff stopped
- 8:51there. Okay.
- 8:54It's It's bad. Now, you do have air
- 8:56vents here. It's supposed to be passive
- 8:58air flow. So, when you get air shooting
- 9:01from there, if it's strong enough,
- 9:02you're going to get air here. I do feel
- 9:04the air. I barely feel it, though.
- 9:06Because we have the falconing door
- 9:07piece, everything's just lower. Coat
- 9:09hooks in the back here. I didn't even
- 9:11realize there was coat hooks here. And I
- 9:12actually own a Tesla Model X. LED lights
- 9:14here as well. Look how big this seat is
- 9:17shaped. So, if I was to put my legs
- 9:19here, [music] this is what the seat all
- 9:21the way forward, by the way. It's no
- 9:22space at all. Zero. You also have this
- 9:25piece here. It's so [music] big and
- 9:27bulky. My shoulder room. I'm like jammed
- 9:29up against this right side here. And you
- 9:31would think that maybe these seats
- 9:33recline or something. These seats don't
- 9:35recline at all. There is a button right
- 9:37here where you can bring lower the
- 9:39headrest and then bring the seat forward
- 9:40and all the way down. Now, this doesn't
- 9:42have any sort of auto latching mechanism
- 9:45thing. So, if you lower the seat and
- 9:46Olaf seats, nothing happens. Like, it's
- 9:49just manual. But this does not recline.
- 9:51My head is smashed. Zero amount of
- 9:54space. My eye level is completely
- 9:56blocked by this thing. The tiniest
- 9:58window known to man is right here. So,
- 10:00it's like I'm in prison and I need help.
- 10:02Save me. You do have Alcantara here, but
- 10:04this is a hard plastic. Apparently,
- 10:06there's armrest somewhere, but I don't
- 10:08even know where it's at. I think it's
- 10:09literally like this tiny little piece
- 10:11here. It's like a you could use it as
- 10:12like a baby armrest if you're really
- 10:13small. The third row in the Model Y L is
- 10:16heated. In the Model X, these are not
- 10:18heated or ventilated. You do have cup
- 10:19holders in the center here and you do
- 10:21have two USBC ports as well. Have access
- 10:23to seat belt. the seat belt up. Unlatch
- 10:26it. Oh, this is so much better. But
- 10:28yeah, that is a [music] huge difference.
- 10:30I am curious to see if everyday Jan 53
- 10:35999
- 10:37lbs on a good day.
- 10:40Okay. All the way where I sat in the She
- 10:43smacked her head. See
- 10:44>> this thing?
- 10:45>> I have 1 in of knee space. Good
- 10:48headroom.
- 10:48>> Good headroom.
- 10:49>> Oh my gosh. This is the armrest.
- 10:51>> Yeah. Comfortwise on a scale
- 10:53>> six. Six. Look how easy it is to come
- 10:54out, though. Okay, so now we're going to
- 10:56be in the Y L. Well, it's cheating.
- 10:59Can't just mount that thing.
- 11:00>> Definitely more snug getting in. Look at
- 11:03the space.
- 11:04>> So, that is the wheelbase difference
- 11:05right there.
- 11:06>> This is like 8 in. So much space. The
- 11:08head room is more too with this seating
- 11:10position, I'd give it a 10. Getting in
- 11:12and out though, is still like a little
- 11:14bit stuck for me.
- 11:15>> So, for third row comfort, Monoio wins
- 11:18hands down.
- 11:20But for getting access into and out of
- 11:22the third row, the Model X wins.
- 11:25But now kids, right? A lot of people
- 11:27want to know four child seats. Which is
- 11:30better, the [music] Model X or Model Y
- 11:31L? Already the Model X wins bringing
- 11:34your kid in and out. My friend has a
- 11:36Lexus GX parked somewhere. He had to
- 11:38back his car forward because he couldn't
- 11:40put his kid in the child seat because
- 11:41there's a car next to him. With the
- 11:43Model X, because of the falconing doors,
- 11:44you don't have to worry about that.
- 11:46Let's talk about the differences. Right.
- 11:47In the Model X with the captain chairs,
- 11:50two of the front seats have tethers at
- 11:52located at the bottom. This car used to
- 11:54have child seats, but I guess the kids
- 11:55either grew up or when they did have the
- 11:57child seat on, you can still completely
- 12:00move the rocking chair. And then if I
- 12:02have a third child seat in the third
- 12:04row, look how easy this is. Come here,
- 12:06little chickito Johnny. Boom. Look at
- 12:08that. In the third row, you don't have
- 12:10any of the anchor points on the inside
- 12:12of the seat, but you do have a child
- 12:14tether anchor point in the [music] back
- 12:16part. So, it is possible to have four
- 12:19child seats in the Tesla X with very
- 12:22[music] easy access to the third row.
- 12:23All this space to bring a kid in and
- 12:25out. But what about the Mono Y? The
- 12:27opening is so much different in the X
- 12:28versus the Y. Got to get in good
- 12:30position. Now, in the Y L, can you have
- 12:32four child seats? Technically, yes. The
- 12:35beauty with the Y L is that you have the
- 12:38bottom anchor points in the second
- 12:40captain's chairs as well as the rear
- 12:42safety tether, but you also get the
- 12:44[music] same exact bottom anchor points
- 12:47and the safety tether in the third row.
- 12:49The problem that I'm having is how in
- 12:52the Lord Jesus's name am I going to get
- 12:54my kid in and [music] out from the third
- 12:56row? So, let's just say I have Johnny
- 12:58here. I have my young son Gabriel here
- 13:00as well. They left and they're they're
- 13:02like doing their thing. It's not like I
- 13:04can bring this seat out of the way
- 13:06unlike the rocking chair. So, the most I
- 13:08could do is this. I can't like bring
- 13:10this all the way down because the child
- 13:12[music] seats there. How am I going to
- 13:14get little Sophia and little uh
- 13:17little Sophia and little Stephanie in
- 13:19the third row? How am I supposed to get
- 13:22them? The only other way would be if I
- 13:24squeeze through here again. 7 in. Like
- 13:27I'm going to tear my back apart. Then I
- 13:30can grab [music] them. Okay. Got the kid
- 13:33here. Oh god. Hopefully. Oh god, I
- 13:36almost fell. It's very tough. That is
- 13:38the only problem that I see. Now, one
- 13:41question that someone said was, "If I
- 13:42have three kids, is it possible?"
- 13:44Because the Y is just a bigger vehicle.
- 13:46It's very difficult unless you just
- 13:48unlatch them. Come on out this way,
- 13:50[music]
- 13:51Stephanie. And she come, he comes down
- 13:52here and jumps off, parkours it. But you
- 13:55can't like put a baby in the third row
- 13:59easily and grab him. So, if you have
- 14:01more than two child seats, then the
- 14:03Model X is going to be your winner.
- 14:06But if you have all those four [music]
- 14:07kids, where you going to put your stuff?
- 14:09Now, the Tesla Model X is 3 in longer
- 14:12and 5 in wider than the Model Y. With
- 14:15the four seats up, the trunk space in
- 14:18the Model X is not the best. Like, I
- 14:19have a nice carry-on here, little LV
- 14:21bag. Of course, it's going to close
- 14:23that. But if I put a fullsize suitcase
- 14:25[music] in there, uh-oh. Now, remember,
- 14:28these don't recline. So close test. I
- 14:32don't know
- 14:34that is quite unfortunate I have to say
- 14:37but there are different options. Luckily
- 14:39we have all this sub trunk space. So if
- 14:42I was to put this suitcase here. Wow.
- 14:45Definitely fits. I don't even have to
- 14:47close it. It for sure fits. But because
- 14:49of that longer wheelbase in the Y L.
- 14:52Same Louis V bag. It's just so much more
- 14:55space. So, this can fit a full-size
- 14:57luggage with the third row up.
- 15:05Okay, in his defense, the third row was
- 15:07reclined. So, here we go. That's a more
- 15:10normal third row and not full recline.
- 15:15Nice. And then that's where that longer
- 15:16[music] wheelbase makes up with the Y L
- 15:18and they use that space extremely well.
- 15:21Now, I owned a Model X, a 5-seater Model
- 15:23X, but here's why I didn't even consider
- 15:26and think about getting a six-seater
- 15:29Model X. First off, yes, [music] you can
- 15:31fold these flat. The huge issue is that
- 15:34the captain chairs do not fold flat at
- 15:36all. That's the flattest you're going to
- 15:38get. So, there's no way you can camp or
- 15:41sleep inside of a Tesla Model X unless
- 15:43you're like this tall. Oh, yeah. That's
- 15:45a good stretch. Which is why in the
- 15:47five-seater, you can lay it fully flat.
- 15:49and I was able to sleep in the Model X.
- 15:51You also have more storage space here
- 15:53[music] only on one side. And you have a
- 15:55little parcel shelf there. Some small
- 15:57stuff if you wanted to. In the Model Y,
- 15:59if you have a sub trunk and you want to
- 16:01use it, magnetic latch now, so you can
- 16:04just lift this up and it holds up
- 16:05magnetically. Not as wide of a sub
- 16:07trunk, but you do have a very deep sub
- 16:09trunk with dual deep pockets on both
- 16:12sides that goes all the way to like my
- 16:13elbow on both sides. You have and you
- 16:15have a little grocery hook for your
- 16:17groceries. But the crazy part with the
- 16:19Moto Y is you have automatic switches
- 16:22that can lower and raise the third and
- 16:25second row automatically. And if the
- 16:27first row seats are in the way, it'll
- 16:29automatically move forward and then back
- 16:31into position. And look at that, you
- 16:33have fold flat captain's chairs. It's
- 16:36more practical, more usable space. The
- 16:38Model X has more total storage, 94 cubic
- 16:42feet versus 89.7, but the Y L's trunk is
- 16:46more usable and fits more in the real
- 16:48world. So, the point goes to the Y L.
- 16:53Another question someone asked about the
- 16:54Model Y is, can you camp in your Tesla
- 16:57if [music] you have a single person
- 16:58mattress? Look at this. Single piece
- 17:00down, single piece all the way. While
- 17:04you can technically sleep on a single
- 17:05piece mattress if you stuff the gaps and
- 17:07hole properly. I actually took this car
- 17:09camping and if you're tall, it's not
- 17:11exactly the most comfortable. Problem is
- 17:14that
- 17:16this slopes down. So if I can't put my
- 17:19pillow here. So look at an angle again.
- 17:25It's so uncomfortable.
- 17:26>> But a surprising difference is the
- 17:29frunk. Look at how gigantic the X frunk
- 17:32is. It's deep. It's large. Huge amount
- 17:34of I could like hang out in the X. We
- 17:37could easily fit one carry-on backpack
- 17:40in there for sure. Much larger frunk
- 17:42versus the Y L. It's still very big.
- 17:45Like, it's comfortable. Get a little ice
- 17:47bath going. But the benefit with the Y L
- 17:49is you get a drain plug. So, if you have
- 17:50ice or you want to store wet stuff, you
- 17:52can do that in there. Rinse it off. The
- 17:54X does not have a drain plug. Both
- 17:55manual clothes. Nothing crazy there. But
- 17:57the frunk is definitely bigger in the
- 17:59Model X. So, point to the Model X.
- 18:03The Model Y L is just a quieter vehicle
- 18:05overall. And one of those reasons why is
- 18:08all the carpet. However, the problem
- 18:10with that is it becomes like a dirt and
- 18:12hair magnet. It's just not a good thing.
- 18:15Before I was like, who's going to buy
- 18:17floor mats? It's like a total waste of
- 18:18money. But then I use the carpet floor
- 18:20mats that come with the Tesla [music]
- 18:22and it gets so gross. But I like the
- 18:25feeling of the carpet floor mats against
- 18:28my toes. So, one company I've been using
- 18:30in Red Rocket and my PP, which is my
- 18:34Model Y performance, has been by 3W.
- 18:37It's perfectly molded to fit your Tesla.
- 18:39It has this aluminum pedal looking
- 18:41thing. Gives a sportier feel. It also
- 18:44comes, you know, with these, you would
- 18:46think this is a gimmick, but when you
- 18:49spill stuff on here, it really helps
- 18:51slow the spill down these grooves here.
- 18:54So, it actually makes a big difference.
- 18:55However, for me, the biggest part that I
- 18:58love is the carpet piece. They have
- 19:01different carpet pieces. The beauty with
- 19:02it though is it is waterproof. So, if
- 19:04you get any spills on here, it's
- 19:07waterproof on this side. And it attaches
- 19:10with these clips here. And if you also
- 19:12want extra protection, they also make
- 19:13floor mats that fit the rear and trunk
- 19:15perfectly. But now we got to see how
- 19:17they drive. The Model X 0 to 60 in 3.6
- 19:20seconds. This is the plaid version, so I
- 19:22think it does in like 2.9 or something
- 19:24ridiculous.
- 19:27That is insane.
- 19:29>> It's too fast. It's way too fast for me.
- 19:31>> You would think in the Model X because
- 19:34it has air suspension, it would be a
- 19:36more luxurious experience. Even though
- 19:39I'm on comfort though, [music] it's
- 19:40still I could feel the bumps. So, it's
- 19:42not like a night and day difference with
- 19:44the air suspension versus the Y. And on
- 19:47Sport, it was definitely bumpier and you
- 19:49could definitely hear all the creeks
- 19:52inside the cabin.
- 19:56drives great. The steering doesn't feel
- 19:58as connected, I think, as the Model Y.
- 20:00There is some disconnect to the
- 20:02steering. Takes like a quick second to
- 20:04respond, even though you can customize
- 20:06the steering weight from light,
- 20:08standard, and heavy. Not the best, not
- 20:10the worst. Still a great vehicle to
- 20:12drive. I think it's a great car.
- 20:14However, I can't get over all those
- 20:17creeks and build quality issues sounds
- 20:20and squeaking. And this car again only
- 20:22has 50,000 mi on it, which is very
- 20:25unfortunate for a car that's this
- 20:26expensive.
- 20:28The Model Y L has all-wheel drive, 325
- 20:31mi of range, 496 horsepower, and a 0 to
- 20:3560 in [music] 4.4 seconds, but this one
- 20:38has the acceleration boost, bringing
- 20:40that down to just 4.2 seconds. Oh yeah,
- 20:44ripped it there. Held well all the way.
- 20:48And then the acceleration boost. This
- 20:50thing is so fast.
- 20:54Woo. It's very similar to the premium
- 20:57Tesla Model Y, but it's longer, taller,
- 21:01and heavier. However, they did a great
- 21:03job with the noise, the vibration, the
- 21:05harshness. You can also customize
- 21:07acceleration and regenerative braking.
- 21:09The handling the curves so easy. It's so
- 21:11effortless, especially with the stagger
- 21:14tire setup. It really feels firmly
- 21:15planted to the ground. It does not feel
- 21:17like a longer vehicle. With normal
- 21:20driving, unless I'm doing a U-turn, then
- 21:21it feels like a longer vehicle. And
- 21:23because the Y L has a longer wheelbase
- 21:26than the Tesla Model X, the turning
- 21:27radius isn't as good. If I had to choose
- 21:30which car I'd like to drive, I would
- 21:33choose the Model Y L. The Model Y L has
- 21:36a estimated range of 325 mi with a
- 21:39maximum charge rate of 250 kW, and they
- 21:42claim it'll give you 164 m around 15
- 21:45minutes. The Model X is also an
- 21:47all-wheel drive vehicle. 352 mi, charges
- 21:50at a maximum of 250 kW, and can get you
- 21:54179 miles in 15 minutes. So, even though
- 21:58the Model X weighs more, it does give
- 22:00you more miles and it does charge
- 22:02slightly faster. However, those aren't
- 22:04really big differences, not like a crazy
- 22:06difference in charging speeds for you to
- 22:08choose the Model X over the Model Y. But
- 22:10the main difference is because it's
- 22:12heavier and the drag coefficiency isn't
- 22:14as good as the Model Y, it's just going
- 22:16to be less efficient on road trips
- 22:18[music] versus the thinner, more
- 22:20slippery Tesla Model Y L. So, the Model
- 22:23Y L is going to be winning on
- 22:25efficiency.
- 22:27This is Tesla's like flagship SUV. Look
- 22:29how cool it looks. And this one, not
- 22:32even released yet in the US. I've been
- 22:34driving it for an entire week. Nobody
- 22:36noticed. Nobody cared. They thought it
- 22:37was just a regular Model Y. But the
- 22:40Model X when it came out, everyone was
- 22:42talking about it. Model X comes in 20s
- 22:45or 22in
- 22:47rims. These are the 20s. They offer more
- 22:49range because he has the plaid version.
- 22:51He has the red brake calipers. It looks
- 22:54great. It's a sexy looking SUV. And then
- 22:57we come to the Y L. And it looks like
- 22:59someone just took Photoshop and then
- 23:01just made it longer and a little bit
- 23:02taller. You can't really tell it's a
- 23:04different Y for the most part. The front
- 23:06is almost the same. has different rim,
- 23:0919-in and 20-in, and this is their 20-in
- 23:12version. It looks cool. The biggest
- 23:14change, though, is in the back, gloss
- 23:16black spoiler integrated onto here.
- 23:18Aside from that, it looks very similar.
- 23:20In the front, the Model Y L also has a
- 23:23front-facing bumper camera right here.
- 23:25They did add it in the Model X's later,
- 23:28like pretty much the end of life almost,
- 23:31but this Model X does not have a
- 23:33front-facing bumper [music] camera.
- 23:35That's going to be super important,
- 23:36which we'll talk about in a second.
- 23:38Opening the doors,
- 23:41done. So, visually and cool factor for
- 23:44the Model Y L isn't an upgrade, I don't
- 23:47think so.
- 23:49But practically, we're just getting
- 23:51started. So, let's start with the Model
- 23:53Y. First off, let's talk about ground
- 23:55clearance. 6.7 in,
- 23:59but the height stepping into the Y is 18
- 24:03in. But then we come to the Tesla Model
- 24:06X and already you can see it's lower,
- 24:08but this has air suspension giving you a
- 24:10ground clearance from 5.8 in, so lower
- 24:14than the Tesla Model Y L all the way to
- 24:168.1 in, which is awesome. 16 in, so 2 in
- 24:20less. And it's so much of an easier
- 24:22platform to get in and out. Like look
- 24:24how flat this is. Another thing is even
- 24:26though you could lower the ground
- 24:28clearance, the load height is much
- 24:30higher in the Model X pretty much right
- 24:31here. So, it's a lot harder if if you're
- 24:34smaller, you have something to carry, to
- 24:35lug in compared to the Y L. So much
- 24:38lower. It's like this much lower to
- 24:41bring stuff in and out of the trunk,
- 24:43making it easier in the Y L.
- 24:46But here's some things that the Model Y
- 24:49L can do that simply the Model X just
- 24:51can't do. Vehicle to load. The Model Y
- 24:54L, you can actually plug this in and you
- 24:57can plug stuff in. So, you can power
- 25:00your camsite. Tesla pirate
- 25:05[music] and our meal. That's actually
- 25:08pretty cool.
- 25:09>> Something you can't do in [music] the
- 25:10Model X. You could do in the Y L. That's
- 25:13a game changer right there. But the
- 25:14Model X [music] has some unique features
- 25:16the Y doesn't. If you have the phone
- 25:19key, it can sense the phone key. The
- 25:21door automatically opens. Or you can
- 25:23just push this button. It automatically
- 25:25opens as well. And once you put your
- 25:27foot on the brake, it automatically
- 25:29closes. Once you're inside, you feel
- 25:31like you're in a spaceship because the
- 25:34windshield goes from here and it goes
- 25:36all the way up to there. You still have
- 25:39a ton of head space. However, one thing
- 25:40to note is the Model X feels wider a
- 25:43vehicle. [music] I have more room to
- 25:45like push my elbow out here. I have all
- 25:48this space here. This goes further out.
- 25:50These seats are heated. They're cooled.
- 25:53Very comfortable seats overall. I love
- 25:54them all X seats. Visibility is great as
- 25:56well. Very easy to drive. You have a
- 25:59center screen here. Visually displays
- 26:00stuff. 17.4 in center screen that allows
- 26:03you to kind of move it from side to
- 26:05side. Ventless air vents all done to the
- 26:08screen. On the inside, you have active
- 26:10noise cancellation. So, when you come to
- 26:12the Y, [music] definitely a smaller
- 26:14vehicle. Like sidewise, I can't do the
- 26:17chicken arm over on this side. If I put
- 26:19my arm out here, doesn't feel as big.
- 26:22Head [music] room feels very similar
- 26:24though. Another big difference is this
- 26:25piece here is in the way in the X. It's
- 26:28just completely open, baby. However,
- 26:30overall, it's one of those things where
- 26:32it's like once you drive it a couple
- 26:33days, you get used to it. The seats in
- 26:35the Y L though is where the money's at,
- 26:37baby. Adjustable manual headrest.
- 26:39There's an extendable thigh bolster that
- 26:41gives you even more support if you're on
- 26:43the taller side. Super comfortable.
- 26:45Brand new 16-in QHD [music] touchscreen
- 26:49here. Smaller bezels, nicer screen.
- 26:52Nothing here. No need though because
- 26:54everything you need is here. Very easy
- 26:55to get used to. One difference though
- 26:57with the Model Y is you have a turn
- 26:59signal stock. This is around the time
- 27:01Elon was like trying to make everything
- 27:02like eventually we don't even want a
- 27:04steering wheel and we don't want anyone
- 27:06to signal. So they put everything on the
- 27:09steering wheel which is why a lot of
- 27:10people got annoyed by it. So they
- 27:11readded the turn signal stock in the Y's
- 27:14in the threes. But in the first row the
- 27:17Model X is roomier. You feel like you're
- 27:19in a spaceship. So, I'd have to say the
- 27:21MAX X takes [music] the win. But even
- 27:24though these are both Teslas, you would
- 27:25think the tech would be the same, right?
- 27:28One issue I found, and you think that
- 27:30having a center display here [music] is
- 27:31great and all. However, because it's a
- 27:33Tesla Model X, I was never on the same
- 27:36full self-driving software as the rest
- 27:38of the world, like the Model 3, Model
- 27:39Y's, [music] it was always delayed. Even
- 27:41the softwares were delayed, like the
- 27:43cool updates I would get later [music]
- 27:45cuz they have to fine-tune it for the
- 27:47Model S and X. If you get a used Tesla
- 27:49Model X now that they don't even make
- 27:51them anymore, I don't see Tesla
- 27:52investing [music] a lot of money into
- 27:54making that software so much better. I'm
- 27:56sure they will make it better little bit
- 27:58here and there, but compared to the
- 27:59Model Y and Model 3, which gets like
- 28:02[music] updates every week, every month,
- 28:04you're not going to probably be getting
- 28:05that in the Model S and Model X now that
- 28:07they discontinued it. So, for that
- 28:09reason alone, the Wild gets the point
- 28:11for tech. But don't get me wrong, both
- 28:13of these vehicles are still miles ahead
- 28:15of what most other automakers are
- 28:17offering. One huge thing I noticed was
- 28:19the [music] build quality. This car is a
- 28:21very new car. Has only 50,000 mi on it,
- 28:24but just driving it, everything caks,
- 28:27everything squeaks. And I did notice
- 28:29that when I was driving the Model
- 28:30[music] X Loners,
- 28:34there's just a lot of issues with the
- 28:36vehicle that makes me feel like, oh, I
- 28:38spent over $100,000 on this vehicle. It
- 28:40[music] does not feel like a $100,000
- 28:42car. It's just a lot more wear and tear
- 28:44on the Model X that I've noticed [music]
- 28:47versus like a Model Y. Like my Model Y
- 28:50100,000 mi in just some peeling in the
- 28:52trim, that was it. It was good. However,
- 28:54it drives great. But the Model X has
- 28:56more speakers than the Model Y. 22
- 28:59speakers, but more speakers doesn't
- 29:01automatically mean it sounds better. So,
- 29:04how's the sound? So, I fine-tuned it
- 29:06slightly. It's very similar to my Model
- 29:07Y L preset. This is how it [music]
- 29:09sounds in the Model X.
- 29:18[music]
- 29:22colors
- 29:25and there's [music]
- 29:28room.
- 29:28>> It sounds great. Amazing sound system in
- 29:31the Tesla Model X. Now, the Model Y L
- 29:34has 19 speakers completely redesigned.
- 29:37And I always thought the Cybertruck and
- 29:38the Model X had one of the best sound
- 29:40systems ever until I sat in the Y L.
- 29:43They have a new feature called immersive
- 29:46sound X. New speakers. There's a brand
- 29:49new speaker underneath the center
- 29:50console here. [singing and music]
- 29:56>> I can feel [music] it everywhere.
- 30:01Every color [singing]
- 30:02seems to
- 30:09the sound system in the Y L is just
- 30:10crisper. It's cleaner. It sounds more
- 30:13natural. And I think it's just the shape
- 30:15of the interior of the Y L versus the X.
- 30:17The X has all these holes here because
- 30:18of the falconing windows. This one's
- 30:20just like a big half circle. So, the
- 30:22sound is just encapsulates the entire
- 30:24cabin. It's designed for the second row
- 30:27and the third row so that everyone has
- 30:29good sound. I test them in all the
- 30:31seats. It sounds amazing. Wow, it sounds
- 30:33so good even here. Amazing sound stage.
- 30:38[music]
- 30:40>> Sound system in the Model Y is like the
- 30:42best.
- 30:44So, is the Model Y L an upgrade from the
- 30:47Model X? In certain ways, absolutely.
- 30:51It's more efficient, easier to maneuver,
- 30:54has fold flat seats, external power,
- 30:57better heat rejection, better climate,
- 30:59third row air vents that actually work,
- 31:02and a more usable trunk with the third
- 31:04row up. But as an entire vehicle, no,
- 31:07the Model X is still was Tesla's
- 31:10flagship vehicle. It still has air
- 31:12suspension, adaptive dampeners, noise
- 31:15cancellation, falcon wing doors, a much
- 31:18larger, wider second row, auto open,
- 31:21auto close doors. So, in a lot of ways,
- 31:23the Model X [music] is more premium. Not
- 31:26to mention, it can tow 5,000 lb versus
- 31:29the Model Y L, which can only tow 3500
- 31:32lb. So, if you already own a very good
- 31:35working non creaking Model X and you're
- 31:38happy with it, just keep the Model X. I
- 31:41would specifically only switch the Model
- 31:43Y L if you want a more efficient
- 31:45vehicle. You want something that's
- 31:46easier to maintain, don't have to worry
- 31:48about the falconing doors, [music] you
- 31:49want to have more practicality, so you
- 31:51want to have those fold flat captain
- 31:52chairs, the vehicle to load, you also
- 31:54want to have more storage, more usable
- 31:56storage, and if you have older kids, you
- 31:58don't have to worry about the third row
- 32:00bringing them in and out. then the Model
- 32:02Y L is a solid choice. It is so [music]
- 32:05awesome. The Model Y L doesn't upgrade
- 32:08the Model X. It simplifies it. And
- 32:11depending on why you originally bought
- 32:13your Tesla Model X, that could be, you
- 32:15know, the reason why you want the Model
- 32:16Y L. Or it could be the reason why you
- 32:20should just keep your Tesla Model X.
- 32:24One reason why I get the Model X. To
- 32:26this day, you're the cool dad. If you
- 32:28have this feature and you have a Model
- 32:30X, this is the reason why you'll get a
- 32:33Model X.
