- 0:00So, here's my experience with getting
- 0:01IPL treatment that took my skin from
- 0:03looking like this to looking like this.
- 0:05And during my two treatments, there were
- 0:06a couple of curve balls that I wish I
- 0:08knew before starting the treatment. So,
- 0:09if you are considering IPL treatments,
- 0:11hopefully you can avoid the mistakes
- 0:12that I made. Now, the primary reasons to
- 0:14use IPL treatments is to target things
- 0:16like freckles and age marks, small
- 0:18damaged blood vessels called tactantas
- 0:20and rosacea. So, here's my experience.
- 0:22So, I've just arrived at the Palm Clinic
- 0:24for the first IPL treatment. I'll see
- 0:25you on the other side. Okay, so first
- 0:27IPL done. You can see it's made my skin
- 0:29quite red and it's meant to make
- 0:31everything a bit worse in terms of my
- 0:32freckles and things before it makes it
- 0:34better. So over the next couple of days,
- 0:36in theory, it should swell a bit more.
- 0:39That should all come up a bit more in
- 0:40terms of my freckles and then it should
- 0:41all go away in theory. So just to build
- 0:44on that, the light emitted by the
- 0:45device, it's absorbed by the melanin in
- 0:47the freckles and the sunspots as well as
- 0:49the hemoglobin in the blood vessels. So
- 0:51that heats them and it damages them. So
- 0:53that damage it stimulates the body's
- 0:54natural healing processes and that leads
- 0:56to the breakdown and the removal of the
- 0:58unwanted pigment or the vessels. So over
- 1:00time that does help to improve skin
- 1:02tone, it reduces redness and it evens
- 1:03out the pigmentation. So think of it a
- 1:05bit like exercise for the skin. So it
- 1:07creates targeted damage that initially
- 1:09makes things worse, but then the body
- 1:11heals that damage and it comes back
- 1:12stronger. Here's my face the next day.
- 1:14So you can see that my freckles are
- 1:15starting to show up more prominently and
- 1:17my skin is fairly red. So this is day
- 1:20three.
- 1:24So this is day four.
- 1:33So this is day five. You've you can see
- 1:35that the freckles have started to fall
- 1:38away. But interestingly, I've now got a
- 1:40cold sore. I haven't had a cold sore
- 1:42since I was about 17. And they told me
- 1:45that this could happen because the IPL
- 1:46treatment, it stresses uh the skin. and
- 1:48that stress can um can then affect the
- 1:51lip as well and that can reactivate the
- 1:53herpes virus. So I need to go and get a
- 1:55antiviral cream. Um so yeah, I just
- 1:57wanted to let you know that this is a
- 1:59known side effect and I think next time
- 2:00that I have IPL treatment, I'm just
- 2:02going to use the cream from the uh from
- 2:04the get- go. So this is day six. You can
- 2:06see that my cold saws really come along.
- 2:08I'm actually in the clinic today, so I'm
- 2:09going to be seeing patients having to
- 2:11explain this, which is not a great look,
- 2:12but such is life. Um so just have a look
- 2:15at the freckles again. and they've
- 2:18really started to disappear. So, it's
- 2:20been 30 days. I'm about to have my
- 2:21second IPL treatment and after the
- 2:23debacle of the cold saw last time, I've
- 2:26started taking Bellicycllovia. So, it's
- 2:28an antiviral. Um, so started taking that
- 2:30a couple of days ago. So, hopefully the
- 2:31cold saw doesn't come back. Um, and
- 2:33again, I'll be taking before and after
- 2:35uh videos of this so that you can see
- 2:36potentially the um the freckles and what
- 2:40the IPL is doing. All right, second
- 2:42treatment done. So, you can see it
- 2:43really inflames the face. And what we
- 2:45really tried to get was that lesion
- 2:47there and that one there. So, it'll be
- 2:50interesting to see what actually
- 2:52happens. But yeah, you can see it's not
- 2:53the most pleasant thing in the world.
- 2:54I'll tell you that much. Um, but yeah,
- 2:57so we'll just monitor it over the next
- 2:59couple of days and see what happens. So,
- 3:00for the second time, you can see that it
- 3:02makes my freckles a lot worse and then
- 3:04my body will break them down and they'll
- 3:05slowly fade away. This is day four and
- 3:07you can see that the freckles under my
- 3:09eyes have completely gone, but the
- 3:10freckles on my left cheek. So, while
- 3:12it's faded, it hasn't completely gone
- 3:13away. And moving forward, I'm probably
- 3:15going to get IPL treatments done roughly
- 3:17every four to six months, similar to how
- 3:19often I get Botox done. And for those
- 3:21who are new to Botox, Botox is not the
- 3:22same thing as filler. And I'm doing
- 3:24these treatments to look after my skin.
- 3:26So, interestingly, we've got research
- 3:27showing that how our skin looks reflects
- 3:29our chances of living a long life. And
- 3:31another thing I'm experimenting with is
- 3:33red light therapy because of the
- 3:34surprising and fairly compelling
- 3:35research that I go through in this video
