- 0:00There's probably going to be a day when
- 0:01you look back at your life
- 0:03and you realize you are living through
- 0:04some of the best years of it, but you
- 0:06didn't even notice.
- 0:07>> [music]
- 0:07>> You were too busy waiting for something
- 0:08better, waiting until you had more
- 0:10money, more confidence, more friends,
- 0:12[music]
- 0:13more freedom. You kept telling yourself,
- 0:15"I'll do it later." And eventually,
- 0:17later becomes never. So, if you're still
- 0:19[music] young, there's something you
- 0:20need to understand before it's too late.
- 0:23You don't get these years back. Think
- 0:24about how you spend most of your days.
- 0:26[music]
- 0:27You wake up, go to school, come home,
- 0:29get on your phone, watch videos, play
- 0:31games, scroll for another hour, and then
- 0:33another, and before you know it, [music]
- 0:35it's midnight. You tell yourself you'll
- 0:37be more productive tomorrow, and then
- 0:39tomorrow looks exactly the same.
- 0:40>> [music]
- 0:40>> One day isn't a big deal, but when you
- 0:42repeat that day hundreds of times, you
- 0:44suddenly have a year.
- 0:45>> [music]
- 0:46>> And that's the scary part. Your life
- 0:48doesn't disappear all at once. It
- 0:49disappears one ordinary day at a time. I
- 0:52think one of the biggest mistakes
- 0:53[music] young people make is believing
- 0:54that their life hasn't started yet.
- 0:56"I'll start working out when I feel
- 0:58confident. I'll make friends when
- 0:59[music] I'm more interested. I'll start
- 1:01that channel when I know what I'm
- 1:02doing." But there's always going to be
- 1:03another excuse, and eventually you
- 1:05realize you spent years preparing to
- 1:07start living [music]
- 1:08instead of actually living. You don't
- 1:10need to have everything figured out.
- 1:12You're allowed to be bad at things.
- 1:13[music] You're allowed to embarrass
- 1:14yourself. You're allowed to make
- 1:16mistakes.
- 1:17And actually,
- 1:17>> [music]
- 1:18>> that's what you're supposed to be doing.
- 1:20So, here's the first thing you should
- 1:21do. Do more things that make you
- 1:22uncomfortable. Talk to someone you never
- 1:24spoken to. Try a sport. Start the
- 1:27projects you've been thinking about.
- 1:28Post that video. Because confidence
- 1:30doesn't come before you do these things.
- 1:32It comes because you do them. You aren't
- 1:34going to magically wake up one morning
- 1:35and suddenly become confident. You
- 1:37become confident after proving to
- 1:38yourself, "I can actually do this." And
- 1:41some of the things you're most afraid of
- 1:42doing right now will probably become
- 1:44some of your best memories. And while
- 1:45you're young, make memories of people,
- 1:47not followers, not likes, not Snapchat
- 1:49streaks, actual people. Because
- 1:51eventually everyone gets busy. Your
- 1:53friends start working. People move away.
- 1:55Some friendships naturally disappear.
- 1:57>> [music]
- 1:57>> And you won't remember the thousands of
- 1:59hours you spent scrolling. You'll
- 2:00remember the random night you stayed up
- 2:02talking, [music] the stupid joke that
- 2:03made everyone laugh for 10 minutes, the
- 2:05time you went somewhere without even
- 2:06having a plan, the moments that seemed
- 2:08completely meaningless at the time, but
- 2:10somehow became the memories you miss the
- 2:12[music] most. So, if someone asks you to
- 2:14go somewhere, and your first thought is
- 2:15I'd rather just stay home, maybe [music]
- 2:17go, because you don't know which
- 2:19ordinary day is going to become a memory
- 2:21you wish you could experience again. And
- 2:23honestly, you [music] should probably
- 2:24put your phone down more often, because
- 2:26your phone is designed to make you feel
- 2:28like you're doing something when you're
- 2:29actually doing nothing. You can spend 3
- 2:31hours watching other people's lives,
- 2:33[music] 3 hours seeing people travel,
- 2:35get rich, get fit, make friends, live
- 2:38exciting lives, and then you put down
- 2:40your phone, and your life hasn't changed
- 2:41at all. There's nothing wrong with
- 2:43entertainment. There's nothing wrong
- 2:44with playing Minecraft. There's nothing
- 2:46wrong with watching YouTube. But don't
- 2:48spend so much time watching other people
- 2:49live that you forget to live your own
- 2:51life. And while you're enjoying your
- 2:52life, don't forget to build yourself,
- 2:54too. Learn something. Get stronger.
- 2:56Learn how money works. Learn how to
- 2:58communicate. [music] Learn how to edit.
- 2:59Find something you're actually
- 3:01interested in, and get really good at
- 3:03it, [music] because being young gives
- 3:04you something incredibly valuable: time.
- 3:06If you spend the next 3 years getting
- 3:08just a little bit better every day,
- 3:10you'll be a completely different person.
- 3:11[music] You don't need to become
- 3:13successful tomorrow. You just need to
- 3:15stop wasting every tomorrow.
- 3:17And you're probably going to fail a lot.
- 3:19[music] You're going to make stupid
- 3:20decisions. You're going to trust the
- 3:21wrong people. You're going to embarrass
- 3:23yourself. You're going to start [music]
- 3:25things and quit them. You're going to
- 3:26look back at old versions of yourself
- 3:28and wonder, "What was I even doing?"
- 3:31That's normal. Don't let the fear of
- 3:32making mistakes stop [music] you from
- 3:34making memories, because 10 years from
- 3:36now, you're probably going to regret the
- 3:37things [music] that you didn't do more
- 3:39than the things you did. You probably
- 3:41won't care that one person [music]
- 3:42laughed at you. You probably won't care
- 3:44that your first video was terrible. You
- 3:46probably won't care that you look stupid
- 3:48trying something [music] new. But you
- 3:50might care that you spent years being
- 3:51too scared to try. One day, [music]
- 3:54you're going to be older, you're going
- 3:55to have responsibilities, a job, bills,
- 3:58people depending on you, and you'll
- 4:00probably wish you could go back. Not
- 4:02because your life is going to be bad,
- 4:04but because you'll finally understand
- 4:05how valuable these years [music] were.
- 4:07You'll wish you appreciated the boring
- 4:09days, the school days, the random
- 4:11conversations,
- 4:12>> [music]
- 4:12>> the friends you had, the freedom you
- 4:14had, even the problems you thought were
- 4:16the end of the world. You'll realize you
- 4:18were living through a period of your
- 4:19life that you would eventually miss, and
- 4:21you didn't even know it at the time. So,
- 4:23stop waiting for your life to begin. It
- 4:25already has. Go outside, get better at
- 4:27something, spend time with people you
- 4:29care about, take pictures, make
- 4:31memories, and every once in a while, put
- 4:33your phone down and actually look
- 4:34around. Because one day, this moment is
- 4:37going to be a memory, and you don't want
- 4:38to look back and realize you spent it
- 4:39watching everyone else live. You only
- 4:41get these years once. Don't waste them.

- 4:45you, make sure to subscribe.
