Do NOT Open Your Bank App Before Changing These 5 Settings — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00If you have banking apps on your iPhone,
- 0:02you need to change these settings before
- 0:05you go through the process of opening it
- 0:07up. The most important one is to protect
- 0:09your identity and your banking
- 0:12information, especially when you go to
- 0:14log in and get something that says enter
- 0:16a verification code. I'm going to walk
- 0:18you through the easy steps that you need
- 0:21to take to protect yourself.
- 0:23The first thing we're going to do is
- 0:25head into the settings app of your
- 0:27iPhone. From the settings app, tap on
- 0:30general towards the bottom,
- 0:32and then scroll down and tap on auto
- 0:35fill and passwords.
- 0:38From here, scroll down to the bottom,
- 0:40and the first thing that we need to make
- 0:42sure is when you get a verification code
- 0:44texted to you from your banking app, you
- 0:48need to make sure that's deleted
- 0:49immediately. Keep in mind they do expire
- 0:52after about 10 15 minutes, but you want
- 0:54to make sure it's deleted after use. So,
- 0:57you can see it says automatically delete
- 0:59those verification codes. So, if this is
- 1:00turned off, make sure to turn this on.
- 1:03The next thing we want to do is make
- 1:05sure that those codes are not being
- 1:07forwarded to another device, and
- 1:10essentially they'll get the verification
- 1:12codes in addition to your iPhone. So,
- 1:15let's make sure that's not happening by
- 1:17scrolling down to the bottom and tap on
- 1:19apps at the bottom.
- 1:21After you've done that, let's scroll
- 1:22down and find messages on this list and
- 1:26tap on that.
- 1:27And now, all you need to do is scroll
- 1:29down, and then tap on text message
- 1:34forwarding. You can see I'm forwarding
- 1:36my text messages to my MacBook Pro, but
- 1:38I've decided to not forward them to my
- 1:40iPad. If you have anything turned on
- 1:43here, they will get those verification
- 1:45codes as well, and essentially make sure
- 1:47no one else is on that device getting
- 1:50your codes when you choose to log into a
- 1:52banking app. The next thing we're going
- 1:55to do is tap the back arrow here till we
- 1:58get back to the beginning of your
- 2:00settings. Let's make sure that when
- 2:02somebody buys something or you get a
- 2:04deposit maybe from your paycheck, it
- 2:06doesn't just pop up in the notification
- 2:08for everybody to see how much money is
- 2:10coming in and out of your banking app.
- 2:13To make sure they're not able to see
- 2:15that, from the beginning of your
- 2:16settings, tap on notifications
- 2:20and then scroll down until you get to
- 2:22your bank. I use Bank of America, so I'm
- 2:24going to tap on that.
- 2:26Now, I have allowed notifications, which
- 2:28is perfectly fine. However, if I scroll
- 2:31down, you can see show previews and it's
- 2:34set to always. Essentially, what this
- 2:36means is if I get my paycheck every
- 2:39month or I make a big purchase, then
- 2:42anybody with my iPhone can just pop in
- 2:44and see those notification previews
- 2:47without unlocking my iPhone.
- 2:49So, I'm going to switch this to never. I
- 2:51never want to show those previews. I'll
- 2:54still get the notification, but it won't
- 2:55show me information until I log into
- 2:59that app and open it up.
- 3:01The next thing we're going to do is tap
- 3:03the back arrow until we get to the
- 3:05beginning of your settings again.
- 3:07Let's help protect your banking apps by
- 3:10scrolling down and tapping on Face ID
- 3:13and passcode. You're going to just enter
- 3:15in the passcode you used to unlock your
- 3:17iPhone.
- 3:18And now from here, you can see it says
- 3:21use Face ID for tap on other apps here.
- 3:24In my case, 18. You can see there is
- 3:26Bank of America. So, make sure if that
- 3:28is toggled off, just toggle this on and
- 3:31in addition to that, any banking apps
- 3:33you want to turn this feature on. This
- 3:36basically makes it more secure by using
- 3:39your face to authenticate logging in and
- 3:42this prevents somebody, even if they
- 3:43know your password, they'll need to use
- 3:46that Face ID to be able to log in on
- 3:48your phone.
- 3:49The next thing we're we're to do is tap
- 3:50the back arrow and we're going to scroll
- 3:53down because we want to make sure it
- 3:56says allow access when locked. You want
- 3:59to make sure the wallet is turned off.
- 4:01So, if this is turned on, then anybody
- 4:04can access that wallet even when your
- 4:07phone is locked. You want to make sure
- 4:09to turn that feature off, but I would
- 4:11also recommend turning everything on
- 4:14here off. Essentially, you don't want
- 4:16anybody to access anything while your
- 4:19iPhone is locked. You want it to be
- 4:21completely secure. And then, of course,
- 4:23you can unlock your iPhone manually and
- 4:26then have access to whatever you want. I
- 4:28hope this helps. If you enjoyed this
- 4:29video, check out the video over to my
- 4:32right. I think you'll really like that
- 4:33one, too. And thanks for watching.
