- 0:00Welcome to our final episode of the
- 0:02drivetrain restoration series I've
- 0:04already repaired the drive shaft and the
- 0:06axle you can follow the links below this
- 0:08video to see how it went now I'm going
- 0:10to deal with the gearbox well let's
- 0:17go okay I'm starting this challenging
- 0:20journey by dismantling the clutch slave
- 0:24cylinder after that I'll disconnect the
- 0:26gear shift Rod so I can unscrew the
- 0:28gearbox fasteners and the Mount of
- 0:36course I take the transmission jack and
- 0:39carefully pull the gearbox off its seat
- 0:42perfect moving on I am now unscrewing
- 0:44the clutch cover assembly Fasteners
- 0:46something happened behind the scenes and
- 0:47the bearing disappeared at this very
- 0:49point I decide to clean the mounting
- 0:51seat and install a new bearing removing
- 0:54the clutch release bearing with the fork
- 0:56just listen to this
- 1:00it's awful obviously the bearings need
- 1:02replacing which means I need to get to
- 1:07them removing the bell housing shift
- 1:10rods and transmission mount I unscrew
- 1:12the bolts and remove the bearing
- 1:14retainer and extension
- 1:21housing one last look at the play
- 1:24goodbye my friend I won't miss you and I
- 1:27won't miss you either my old oil
- 1:30seal off with the bushes snap rings and
- 1:36covers here it is the
- 1:39transmission I carefully remove the
- 1:41shafts knock out the pins and take off
- 1:43the remaining
- 1:49Forks when removing the forks very tiny
- 1:52and almost invisible detent balls fall
- 1:55out and here's one I can see come here
- 2:01I dismantle the remaining shafts and
- 2:02move on to remove the
- 2:07[Music]
- 2:18bearings depending on the design
- 2:20features I use a press or pullers
- 2:33done now I'm going to clean the
- 2:35components of oil and wear
- 2:44[Music]
- 2:51products okay moving on to cleaning the
- 2:53housing I'll cut off the very old
- 2:55gaskets and clean the inside walls of
- 2:57the housing
- 3:02[Music]
- 3:07now look at the result I
- 3:09got I can now fit the new bearings onto
- 3:12the clean shafts even though their
- 3:14cleanliness doesn't affect how tightly
- 3:15the bearings fit I don't know if that's
- 3:18good or bad huh and I don't forget the
- 3:20snap rings
- 3:31I'm putting the detent balls back in
- 3:33place click and
- 3:35press the input and output shafts are
- 3:40ready the lace shaft is ready too I'm
- 3:44installing all the components in reverse
- 3:46order and hoping I haven't mixed
- 3:47anything up and that the number of Gears
- 3:50doesn't change

- 4:26that all the gears are engaged correctly
- 4:29carefully tightening all the Fasteners I
- 4:31install the bell housing and proceed to
- 4:33install the gearshift mechanism and
- 4:35transmission
- 4:36mounts look there's 40 years and 1
- 4:39million km between
- 4:42[Music]
- 4:44them click click it's
- 4:48working now it's time to install the new
- 4:50clutch cover assembly and the clutch
- 4:52plate to my surprise the flywheel turned
- 4:54out to be in very good condition look
- 4:56how the Spring's fingers are pressed in
- 4:58rolling up and connecting the gearbox to
- 5:00the
- 5:03engine fitting the mount into place and
- 5:06screwing in the remaining
- 5:13Fasteners exciting moment pouring in
- 5:16fresh oil hoping there will be no
- 5:21leaks
- 5:25done tightening the plug and moving onto
- 5:27the axle I'm carefully bringing it to
- 5:30the place of installation it's very
- 5:32heavy getting it into the mounting seats
- 5:34and now I can install the U bolts and
- 5:39[Music]
- 5:43plates I'm fitting the half shafts and
- 5:46assembling the brake system as you can
- 5:48see I'm doing this very quickly so I can
- 5:50start testing the work I've done as soon
- 5:52as possible
- 6:01now it's time to fill in the actual
- 6:02transmission
- 6:11oil that's it now I know exactly what's
- 6:14in here poured it in screwed it in and
- 6:16tightened it up my first point will be
- 6:18the last one the drive shaft I attach it
- 6:21to the gearbox and screw in the
- 6:23Fasteners connecting it to the axle
- 6:29[Applause]
- 6:32pH to be honest it wasn't easy but I'm
- 6:35happy with the result I hope you enjoyed
