  2. 0:01Hey there little red riding
  3. 0:05hood. You sure are looking good. You're
  4. 0:10everything a big bad wolf could
  5. 0:14want. Welcome to our tutorial for a
  6. 0:17mysterious and grown-up Little Red
  7. 0:18Riding Hood costume. We're going to
  8. 0:20start by making her long red hooded
  9. 0:22cloak. We purchased enough fabric to
  10. 0:24wrap around ourselves plus about a half.
  11. 0:27We used a cheaper version to red velvet,
  12. 0:29but it was a little bit thicker, so we
  13. 0:30liked that option. With the extra half,
  14. 0:33you're going to mark it off.
  15. 0:36[Music]
  16. 0:40And when you have your fabric laid out,
  17. 0:41you're just going to see what that
  18. 0:42measurement was and repeat it all the
  19. 0:44way down so that you create a long
  20. 0:46straight line that is equal to the edge
  21. 0:48of the fabric.
  22. 0:51Once you've drawn or pinned this line,
  23. 0:53you're going to cut down it.
  24. 0:55[Music]
  25. 0:58Next, we're going to fold our fabric in
  26. 1:00half and then on a diagonal to make a
  27. 1:02square.
  28. 1:03[Music]
  29. 1:07The extra fabric we're going to cut off.
  30. 1:13[Music]
  31. 1:16With our fabric folded inside out, we're
  32. 1:18going to sew along either of the edges
  33. 1:21that corner the folded
  34. 1:23edge. When you're done, your seam is
  35. 1:26gonna look like this. And we're going to
  36. 1:27flip our hood inside out.
  37. 1:33Next, open up your hood and lay the raw
  38. 1:36edge against the raw edge of our giant
  39. 1:38piece of fabric. That will be the cloak.
  40. 1:41Now, we're going to measure about 1 and
  41. 1:421/2 in down.
  42. 1:45Placing both pieces of fabric together.
  43. 1:48We're going to pin along.
  44. 1:52Making sure that both good sides are
  45. 1:54together, we're going to pin one and 12
  46. 1:55in down.
  47. 1:57[Music]
  48. 2:04Now we should have a straight line of
  49. 2:05pins all the way across connecting both
  50. 2:07good sides. That's about 1 and 1/2 in
  51. 2:09down. So now we're going to sew all the
  52. 2:11way along that pinned
  53. 2:12edge leaving about that 1 and 1/2 in
  54. 2:15space. and also do a second line of
  55. 2:17sewing as close to your raw edge as
  56. 2:19possible. That will create about a 1 in
  57. 2:21thick tube for us to string our ribbon
  58. 2:25through. Should look something like
  59. 2:27this.
  60. 2:29So now you can go ahead and tape
  61. 2:31whatever ribbon you're using to a pencil
  62. 2:33or something that will help you thread
  63. 2:34it
  64. 2:35through. And you can go ahead and uh
  65. 2:38thread your ribbon all the way through
  66. 2:39that tube that we've sewn.
  67. 2:44[Music]
  68. 2:46go
  69. 2:50alone. Once you reach the other side,
  70. 2:52you can pull the ribbon all the way
  71. 2:54through. Now you can put it on and pull
  72. 2:56it tight and cut off any extra. You can
  73. 3:00now tie this in a bow if you would like.
  74. 3:03Our other option is to add this clasp.
  75. 3:07So you're going to pull your ribbon to
  76. 3:08the exact tightness you'd like it to be
  77. 3:10and put a pin in it.
  78. 3:14[Music]
  79. 3:20wolf. We are then going to just put a
  80. 3:22simple stitch through the tubing and the
  81. 3:24ribbon so that the ribbon does not move
  82. 3:26or slide back into the tubing. When
  83. 3:29you're done this, you're going to fold
  84. 3:31your ribbon over about the same width of
  85. 3:35your
  86. 3:36clasp. So, in the end, it'll be double
  87. 3:38the width.
  88. 3:40And taking your clasp, this one we got
  89. 3:42for $3 at a fabric store,
  90. 3:45you're going to fold your ribbon back
  91. 3:47over itself,
  92. 3:48[Music]
  93. 3:50and attach your clasp with just the
  94. 3:53clasp part hanging off, the part that
  95. 3:55you hook onto the other portion. And
  96. 3:58using a similar colored thread, you're
  97. 4:00going to go over the clasp and back
  98. 4:02through the other side. Kind of like
  99. 4:04making your rounds like you would a
  100. 4:06button. When it's done, it's going to
  101. 4:08look like this. and work as a clasp.
  102. 4:12[Music]
  103. 4:20To finish this off, we just paired it
  104. 4:22with a wicker basket.
  105. 4:24[Music]
  106. 4:28And some tall black riding boots.
  107. 4:31And we also wore a simple little black
  108. 4:33dress. This one's from American Apparel.

  111. 4:44Big girls
  112. 4:46should go walking in the spooky old
  113. 4:49woods alone.
