did they really deserve THATðŸ˜ðŸ˜ — Transcript

- 0:00Let's pretend we time traveled back to
- 0:01the Stone Age, but we're Gen Z. Ah, why
- 0:02am I not wearing my dress? It's prom.
- 0:04Oh.
- 0:05>> [music]
- 0:07>> The fact that you even took time out of
- 0:08your day to type [music] that comment
- 0:10needs to be studied by scientists.
- 0:12Somewhere in an alternate universe,
- 0:13there's a version of you that opened the
- 0:15app, saw the video, [music] thought,
- 0:17"That's cool." and kept scrolling.
- 0:18Unfortunately, we got the timeline where
- 0:20you voluntarily announced your presence
- 0:23like a medieval town crier whose [music]
- 0:25only purpose is to contribute absolutely
- 0:27nothing. I imagine you sitting there
- 0:30pushing that comment, staring into the
- 0:31darkness of your brain illuminated
- 0:33[music] only by the sacred blue glow of
- 0:36your phone waiting for somebody to
- 0:38acknowledge your existence. [music]
- 0:39Not because the comment was funny, not
- 0:40because it was clever, but because deep
- 0:42down you know that if the notification
- 0:43sound never [music] comes, then for a
- 0:45brief moment, you must confront the
- 0:47horrifying possibility that nobody
- 0:49cared. Generations from now,
- 0:51archaeologists will [music] discover
- 0:52your comment fossilized in the digital
- 0:53ruins of this app and ask each other,
- 0:55"What ancient catastrophe caused this
- 0:56individual to believe that this was
- 0:58worth posting?" Entire documentaries
- 1:00will be made. Experts will debate.
- 1:01[music] Historians will argue. Yet, no
- 1:03answer will ever be found. The wildest
- 1:05part is that somewhere in your brain,
- 1:07there was a process. Thoughts were
- 1:08generated. Decisions were made. Neurons
- 1:10fired. Electrical signals [music]
- 1:11traveled at incredible speeds across
- 1:13biological supercomputer evolved over
- 1:15millions of years just to arrive at
- 1:16that. That's like using a space shuttle
- 1:19to [music] deliver a single grain of
- 1:20rice across the street. I don't even
- 1:22dislike the comment. I'm fascinated by
- 1:23it. It has the same energy as finding a
- 1:25shopping [music] cart in the middle of a
- 1:26forest. You're not angry. You're not
- 1:28confused. You're just left standing
- 1:29there wondering how events unfolded in
- 1:31such a specific sequence [music] that
- 1:33reality allowed this to happen.
- 1:38>> [music]
