3. 0:04murdering her daughter and trying to
4. 0:06kill her two other kids is back up for
5. 0:08parole. She appeared before the Oregon
6. 0:11Parole Board yesterday. Her case
7. 0:12inspired books and movies over the years
8. 0:15because of the nature of the crimes.
9. 0:17She was convicted in 1984 of the death
10. 0:19of her 7-year-old daughter near
11. 0:21Springfield. Investigators say Downs
12. 0:23shot the little girl, her two other
13. 0:25children, and even put a bullet in her
14. 0:27own forearm. Then she drove them all to
15. 0:30the hospital and blamed it on a man who
16. 0:31she says tried to carjack the family. In
17. 0:35a hearing that lasted several hours,
18. 0:36Downs maintained her innocence.
19. 0:40>> I'm innocent of shooting, but that I am
20. 0:42guilty
21. 0:44of putting my children in danger.
22. 0:48That I have never reconciled.
23. 0:50Ever. Not through all the classes. I've
24. 0:53never reconciled that. I can't.
25. 0:55Cuz there's no excuse for it. There's no
26. 0:58There's no changing it. There's no going
27. 1:00back for it.

29. 1:03and there's no forgiveness for that.
30. 1:07>> Her attorney says they will submit a DNA
31. 1:09motion, which they hope will help
32. 1:11uncover what they call new evidence that
33. 1:14will present what they describe as the
34. 1:16whole truth of the case. The Parole
35. 1:18Board in the next few weeks will
36. 1:19deliberate as to whether to release
37. 1:21Downs after more than four decades in
