  1. 0:00hello guys in today's video i'm going to
  2. 0:01show you a software that you can use to
  3. 0:03design your own rc airplanes especially
  4. 0:06the wing structure which is the
  5. 0:09more or less the most complicated part
  6. 0:11of
  7. 0:12an rc aircraft so in the previous video
  8. 0:15i designed this wing
  9. 0:17and it's really cool as you can see it's
  10. 0:19uh i just call it a joy wing balsa
  11. 0:22because it's made out of basswood and i
  12. 0:24cut it with laser cutter and everything
  13. 0:26it's really cool so uh if you want to
  14. 0:28check that video just click on there or
  15. 0:30in the description below to see that
  16. 0:32video and in today's video i'm going to
  17. 0:35show you the software that i use which
  18. 0:37is called wing helper so i'm just going
  19. 0:39to open it here and win helper is the
  20. 0:42software it's paid so it costs around 80
  21. 0:47or something like that
  22. 0:48and it's but it's really cool because it
  23. 0:51would help it would help you design the
  24. 0:54structures and it will help you save a
  25. 0:57lot of time when designing a structure
  26. 0:59you know the wing so i'm going to show
  27. 1:02you first you know here's the file here
  28. 1:05is the project file for the wing
  29. 1:07that i designed and as you can see here
  30. 1:10is the software is still under
  31. 1:12development but you know
  32. 1:14it it's already functional for most of
  33. 1:17the things that we will use
  34. 1:20so as you can see here here is the wing
  35. 1:21this is the design
  36. 1:23uh that i did for for this actual wing
  37. 1:26the only thing that you cannot see there
  38. 1:28is the fuselage or
  39. 1:30i don't know how to call it i'll call it
  40. 1:32a see the fuselage because it's kind of
  41. 1:34part of the wing but it's not
  42. 1:35it's um well it functions i think it
  43. 1:38creates lift because it has the wind
  44. 1:41profile and everything but inside there
  45. 1:43is space for you know putting the
  46. 1:45battery and all the electronics and the
  47. 1:48rest of the wings
  48. 1:51structure is what you see there so of
  49. 1:53course to get to this stage of the
  50. 1:55process uh there is a lot of work
  51. 1:58involved so here i have only one panel
  52. 2:01and this is the main panel and when
  53. 2:03we're working on it you're gonna see
  54. 2:06only one half of the wing so we can edit
  55. 2:09it here
  56. 2:10and here we can see you know the left
  57. 2:13wing the other side of the wing will be
  58. 2:16just a symmetry just a copy of it and
  59. 2:19here we can see all the parameters that
  60. 2:20we have to change to
  61. 2:22to be able to achieve this state but i'm
  62. 2:25going to show you from the beginning i'm
  63. 2:27going to create a model from the
  64. 2:28beginning and i'll show you all the
  65. 2:30other things that you can do with it as
  66. 2:32i showed in the beginning of the video
  67. 2:34there is a promo code that you can apply
  68. 2:35to get 30 off for the first five people
  69. 2:38who buy wing helper with this code so
  70. 2:40that's how you apply it and let's
  71. 2:42continue with the video okay so first
  72. 2:44thing we're going to create
  73. 2:47a new panel so we click add and you will
  74. 2:51see this
  75. 2:52window here and most most of the time
  76. 2:55you are going to be working on this
  77. 2:56window so wind panel definition is
  78. 2:59called so here we are going to put the
  79. 3:00size of it or the length so how long the
  80. 3:03wing is
  81. 3:04and remember it's just one panel so
  82. 3:07um this is going to be copied
  83. 3:10like a mirror image
  84. 3:12on the other side so next thing is the
  85. 3:14root core so let's put here real quick
  86. 3:16uh 150 to say something and then
  87. 3:20uh
  88. 3:20the tip of the wing is going to be the
  89. 3:23same so i'm going to do a dihedral
  90. 3:26a very simple wing you know a
  91. 3:28two-channel glider or something like
  92. 3:30that and 150 150 the length uh 362
  93. 3:35that's okay for now and i'm going to
  94. 3:37call it
  95. 3:38inner panel
  96. 3:40and then i'm going to
  97. 3:43leave the swift at zero but for the wing
  98. 3:45for for the other design you saw uh it
  99. 3:48was something
  100. 3:50really like
  101. 3:51henry or something like that you know so
  102. 3:53you can see there in real time
  103. 3:55the changes and that's really cool of
  104. 3:57this software just you can see the
  105. 3:59changes
  106. 4:00in the 3d model but we don't need sweep
  107. 4:03and then we can modify the root twist or
  108. 4:05tip twist
  109. 4:07if you want to do something more
  110. 4:09advanced
  111. 4:10uh by twisting you know with degrees so
  112. 4:12let's make a wash out in the tip of a
  113. 4:16wing so you can see there there's a
  114. 4:17difference between the
  115. 4:19the root it's at zero degrees and in the
  116. 4:22wind tip is at minus 12 degrees so
  117. 4:26that's something used in real life but
  118. 4:28not that much but for our glider we're
  119. 4:31gonna leave it nice and simple zero
  120. 4:33degrees the dihedral is uh the two half
  121. 4:37of the wings combined so if you right
  122. 4:39here um
  123. 4:40two degrees it will actually be one
  124. 4:43degree for this wing and one degree for
  125. 4:45the other so i'm gonna use three degrees
  126. 4:48uh for each wing so it's going to be six
  127. 4:50degrees
  128. 4:51and if you wanna see it here you have to
  129. 4:53check this box here to be visible
  130. 4:56and there we go so we have three degrees
  131. 5:00for this wing here six degrees in total
  132. 5:02and we can also you know uh uncheck one
  133. 5:06of some of these
  134. 5:08boxes for example if i uncheck the ribs
  135. 5:11box of course we don't see all the ribs
  136. 5:14but we're working on it so we have to
  137. 5:15see it okay so we have the hedral
  138. 5:17everything so let's go ahead and select
  139. 5:20the airfall so we have a huge selection
  140. 5:23of air falls here so we have the you
  141. 5:26know the most common one is the clark y
  142. 5:29airfoil we're using the same throughout
  143. 5:31the wing and if you
  144. 5:33happen to select a different one for the
  145. 5:36the tip of the wing you get you know
  146. 5:39that transition nice transition between
  147. 5:41the ribs and that's really cool so you
  148. 5:43don't have to design
  149. 5:45everything from scratch in a you know
  150. 5:47design software in a like a cad software
  151. 5:49or something like that with plugins or
  152. 5:51whatever this software is specialized
  153. 5:53for this kind of applications but just
  154. 5:55to give you an idea of all the different
  155. 5:58air faults that we have there as you can
  156. 6:00see you can do this that that that and
  157. 6:03the same here so i can select different
  158. 6:05airfoil for the root
  159. 6:07uh airfoil and that's that's fine that's
  160. 6:10really good but i'm gonna select just
  161. 6:12clark y
  162. 6:14and if you don't wanna have a different
  163. 6:16airflow
  164. 6:17for you know from the root to the tip
  165. 6:19just click the x here and it will
  166. 6:22go to the default same as root and it's
  167. 6:25using the clark y so you can also modify
  168. 6:28the the thickness
  169. 6:31of the airflow so if you click here you
  170. 6:34know
  171. 6:34it's
  172. 6:361.60 more
  173. 6:38we have some extra settings here and
  174. 6:40this is mostly if you have different
  175. 6:43thicknesses or different
  176. 6:45ribs or airfoils so if you click you
  177. 6:48know a line to the bottom so then all
  178. 6:50the
  179. 6:51the air falls will be aligned to the
  180. 6:53bottom so it's easier to to build on top
  181. 6:55of the table or you can align
  182. 6:57a line on the top or don't align them at
  183. 7:00all they're going to stay in the middle
  184. 7:01or something like that
  185. 7:03by the way if you want to know more
  186. 7:05specific details about
  187. 7:07how the software works
  188. 7:09i encourage you to see or to watch the
  189. 7:12documentation video made by the creator
  190. 7:14of this software which will
  191. 7:16teach you everything you need to know i
  192. 7:19won't go into details in this video i'm
  193. 7:22just going to show you the you know the
  194. 7:23basic things and how easy it is to build
  195. 7:27your wing in here so with that said
  196. 7:30i'll leave that link in the description
  197. 7:31below and let's continue here so let's
  198. 7:33go on now and go to rips
  199. 7:36and by the way if you
  200. 7:38uh choose uh change something here for
  201. 7:41example if you put here 300
  202. 7:44you see that it didn't change here but
  203. 7:46you can go to the ribs section then
  204. 7:49select the number of ribs you want i'm
  205. 7:51going to choose eight
  206. 7:53and all of them two millimeters
  207. 7:55thickness so i'm going to use bottle
  208. 7:57wood of millimeters of thickness and
  209. 7:59then generate ribs and it will
  210. 8:01automatically
  211. 8:03go or shrink to or shrink or enlarge to
  212. 8:06the to the
  213. 8:08length you have selected here you have
  214. 8:10chosen there so now we have eight ribs
  215. 8:13and 300 millimeters
  216. 8:15of length there
  217. 8:17so that's cool now i'm let's say i'm
  218. 8:20going to change my mind and select 400
  219. 8:23millimeters
  220. 8:24it didn't change here so you have to go
  221. 8:26again and generate rips you have to be
  222. 8:28careful because
  223. 8:30if you have made some changes here it
  224. 8:32will override that okay so
  225. 8:35that's it eight ribs of two millimeters
  226. 8:38each and now here we have a list of all
  227. 8:42the the ribs that we have all the air
  228. 8:44falls
  229. 8:45and you can change the thickness of each
  230. 8:48individual rib so if you you watch
  231. 8:50carefully here we can see each one
  232. 8:54while i'm selecting them from the list
  233. 8:57so we see also the position in
  234. 8:59millimeters from the center and the
  235. 9:02thickness and the length
  236. 9:04of the
  237. 9:05airflow
  238. 9:08we have some several other options here
  239. 9:10that i'm going i'm not going to mess
  240. 9:11with them right now i'm just going to
  241. 9:13change here some of the ribs
  242. 9:16thicknesses
  243. 9:17in the in the center i'm going to
  244. 9:20make the ribs here a little bit thicker
  245. 9:22because that makes the structure a
  246. 9:24little bit stronger in the middle so
  247. 9:26three millimeters for this one and three
  248. 9:28millimeters for this one and maybe
  249. 9:30uh
  250. 9:31three millimeters for this one as well
  251. 9:33so the three first
  252. 9:36air foils are going to cut to be cut in
  253. 9:39three millimeters so as you can see so
  254. 9:41if even if i do 10 millimeters you'll
  255. 9:44see the difference there that's cool
  256. 9:48okay the next stop is to
  257. 9:50uh select or put the spars
  258. 9:53and ailerons cutters and stuff like that
  259. 9:56so the spars are very important because
  260. 9:58they're going to
  261. 9:59hold the wing together and they're
  262. 10:01mostly the strongest part of the wings
  263. 10:04going to right click and add spar in
  264. 10:06front if you put it behind well when you
  265. 10:09have more you add behind behind and so
  266. 10:11on but it doesn't matter you can i think
  267. 10:14you can change it i'm not sure but
  268. 10:16anyway so let's go and do a basic
  269. 10:19um
  270. 10:21maybe a rectangle
  271. 10:23so what i did for that is a rectangular
  272. 10:25one
  273. 10:27and then
  274. 10:28that's what i like to do there are many
  275. 10:30options here if you want to use like a
  276. 10:32you know carbon fiber tube
  277. 10:35or something like that you can do this
  278. 10:36one
  279. 10:37and so on that's easier but i like to
  280. 10:40use the classic construction using a
  281. 10:43rectangle and webbing and there is
  282. 10:44another option that is not here but i
  283. 10:46think
  284. 10:47uh it might be added in the future which
  285. 10:50is you know using some like a webbing
  286. 10:52but in the middle so let's go ahead and
  287. 10:56change some of the settings for this
  288. 10:58and let's put here 10 millimeters for
  289. 11:01the
  290. 11:02yeah maybe less let's put eight
  291. 11:05millimeters
  292. 11:07okay for the width and then it's gonna
  293. 11:09be a three millimeter maybe plywood and
  294. 11:12then yeah put the webbing maybe a
  295. 11:16behind
  296. 11:17okay
  297. 11:18and it's going to be at 30
  298. 11:20from the leading edge so let's a little
  299. 11:23bit back there
  300. 11:25cool and now we have um yeah that's
  301. 11:28everything i need for now and you can
  302. 11:31also select from which rip to which rib
  303. 11:34you want to apply it
  304. 11:35so if i do you know
  305. 11:38from rip well that's the sorry that's
  306. 11:40the
  307. 11:41the webbing but you can do it from here
  308. 11:44okay so from the rig one to reap let's
  309. 11:46say six
  310. 11:47and it will apply it only to rip six and
  311. 11:50the rest are going to have a different
  312. 11:52thing so but
  313. 11:53we want
  314. 11:55the thing for everything the spar for
  315. 11:57all of those
  316. 11:59riffs let's continue to the next one
  317. 12:01that's the leading edge now the leading
  318. 12:03edge it depends on what you want if you
  319. 12:06select diamonds drip
  320. 12:08round or standard the standard one is
  321. 12:11the only one that from this dialog or
  322. 12:13from this tab you can choose
  323. 12:16and see uh something there
  324. 12:19happening but for the rest they just
  325. 12:22tell you to do something uh some like
  326. 12:25you know some instructions on how to do
  327. 12:27for example if i want to put that round
  328. 12:29straight a leading edge well it tells me
  329. 12:32to go ahead and create uh
  330. 12:35another spar here so it's a round one
  331. 12:37that's okay and then put here maybe one
  332. 12:40percent from the leading edge and it's
  333. 12:42going to be
  334. 12:44maybe a three millimeter uh spar or a
  335. 12:47three millimeter um
  336. 12:50carbon fiber tube
  337. 12:52so or bar
  338. 12:54so let's put here the radius is going to
  339. 12:56be a two point and not 1.5 millimeters
  340. 12:59uh or maybe i can use uh maybe a larger
  341. 13:03one let's put a
  342. 13:05four millimeters or five millimeters so
  343. 13:072.5
  344. 13:08of radius
  345. 13:10and
  346. 13:11that's good and here we can see that we
  347. 13:14have to bring it back a little bit so
  348. 13:171.2
  349. 13:19no 1.5 millimeters sorry 1.5 percent or
  350. 13:231.6 percent yeah 1.6 percent from the
  351. 13:28leading edge leading edge yes now the y
  352. 13:31offset in the beginning and the end so
  353. 13:33let's
  354. 13:34let's bring it down because it's like
  355. 13:36going up here for no reason so let's
  356. 13:40let's bring it down here okay
  357. 13:42so 0.5 so let's put 0.5 on both of them
  358. 13:47and that's it
  359. 13:48so it will make a good leading edge it's
  360. 13:51going to be easy to build
  361. 13:53it could be also wood you know can be
  362. 13:55whatever but it's going to be a 5
  363. 13:58millimeter
  364. 14:00diameter now let's go to the next one
  365. 14:02trailing edge so in here we have several
  366. 14:06well we have two options we have the
  367. 14:08depth so
  368. 14:09the measurement from
  369. 14:11here to here
  370. 14:12so you can specify that measurement or
  371. 14:14you have the height so the measurement
  372. 14:17of the you know the
  373. 14:19airfoil and you know matching the
  374. 14:22measurement of that part of the airfoil
  375. 14:24it will create
  376. 14:25that uh trailing edge so i'm going to
  377. 14:29choose that one because that's also
  378. 14:32you know if i have a wood that it's five
  379. 14:34millimeters thick i can make the
  380. 14:36trailing edge easily from there
  381. 14:38then the sheeting
  382. 14:40and from that i'm going to use that vans
  383. 14:42because this one is going to be
  384. 14:44replaced soon so i'm going to use the
  385. 14:46advanced right click and add a strip
  386. 14:50in the front
  387. 14:52and then it will apply a very basic one
  388. 14:56really quick didn't have to do much
  389. 14:58and
  390. 14:59it's going to be applied to all of them
  391. 15:01that's good
  392. 15:03you can give it a name if you want so
  393. 15:04i'm going to
  394. 15:06put
  395. 15:07balsa
  396. 15:08balsa sheets okay and then i'm going to
  397. 15:10select here all the parameters that i
  398. 15:12want so
  399. 15:14the length
  400. 15:16of the start to finish so starts at zero
  401. 15:19that's okay zero and then
  402. 15:22i'm going to i can just leave it there
  403. 15:24or i can just go over
  404. 15:27the
  405. 15:28the sparse to cover the whole thing so
  406. 15:30it would be a lot stronger so it's up to
  407. 15:32you but i prefer to do it like that
  408. 15:35and then that's actually it that's
  409. 15:38that's pretty much that
  410. 15:39now that we are ready with that uh we
  411. 15:42can go to the final stage which is
  412. 15:44construction
  413. 15:46and in here we can add
  414. 15:48lightning holes
  415. 15:49and that's really cool thing to do
  416. 15:52although if you know if the password is
  417. 15:55really
  418. 15:56uh weak or something it will break
  419. 15:59easily
  420. 16:00so i often
  421. 16:02operate these numbers a little bit to
  422. 16:04make the the whole thing thicker
  423. 16:07and then let's put his here well
  424. 16:09something like that along those lines
  425. 16:11but it's not needed for all the ribs so
  426. 16:14i'm not gonna do it for now i did it for
  427. 16:16the wing but i'm not gonna do it for
  428. 16:18this design because we're trying to do
  429. 16:19everything simple and also this will add
  430. 16:22a lot of time for laser cutting this or
  431. 16:25cnc machining all of these ribs so if
  432. 16:28you don't want to do to have more time
  433. 16:31to to that process well just
  434. 16:34avoid this but you have two options you
  435. 16:36have the standard and triangular and you
  436. 16:39can also change that in
  437. 16:41once you have the exported drawing file
  438. 16:45you can draw your own shapes if you want
  439. 16:47but this way you can have an idea on how
  440. 16:49it looks and everything
  441. 16:51but yeah i'll show you once we export
  442. 16:53this to a cat drawing file
  443. 16:56but for now i'm going to leave it like
  444. 16:59with no holes
  445. 17:01you have all the options here as you can
  446. 17:04see there
  447. 17:05so i think this way is
  448. 17:07a lot stronger i'm going to leave it for
  449. 17:09now like that and i'll show you
  450. 17:11another trick that is really interesting
  451. 17:14you can also have these
  452. 17:16rib comp that will help you with the
  453. 17:17construction process as uh showing here
  454. 17:20but because this wing is very simple i
  455. 17:22don't think we need it so i'm going to
  456. 17:24delete that and i'm going to leave it
  457. 17:25like that and i'm going again back to
  458. 17:28the ribs and you can select each of them
  459. 17:31and if you don't want to have these uh
  460. 17:34cutouts
  461. 17:36or these holes
  462. 17:37for the the rest of the ribs we can do
  463. 17:39this you can right click and select exam
  464. 17:42from lightning holes so you click that
  465. 17:45and you get rid of that you see that
  466. 17:47that's really cool for each of the
  467. 17:50air falls that you don't want that
  468. 17:52you see
  469. 17:54so i'm gonna do it for all of them
  470. 17:56except for the two
  471. 17:58first ones here and that's cool so we're
  472. 18:01already here actually so now we can
  473. 18:03click ok
  474. 18:04and we have our
  475. 18:06house in here
  476. 18:08and one thing i forget is you know a
  477. 18:12some kind of a reinforcement in the
  478. 18:14middle here which is going to be out of
  479. 18:16a tubing metallic tubing or you know
  480. 18:18carbon fiber tubing whatever
  481. 18:21just to
  482. 18:22make the structure a lot stronger so i'm
  483. 18:24going to select that and edit again
  484. 18:27and i'm going to the spar section and
  485. 18:29add s bar behind again this is going to
  486. 18:32be a round spar and i don't want to see
  487. 18:35the
  488. 18:36the sheeting
  489. 18:38because i want to see the spar and the
  490. 18:40spar is going to be up to the
  491. 18:43third
  492. 18:44rib hello guys so this is joeville from
  493. 18:46the future so i was doing it in the
  494. 18:49incorrect way there in that video so i'm
  495. 18:52going to do it correctly here and what
  496. 18:54you have to do to put that joiner
  497. 18:56between the wings is add a new spar and
  498. 19:01it's going to be not a round one but a
  499. 19:03round joiner
  500. 19:05so a round joiner is specifically for
  501. 19:07that
  502. 19:08and i'm going to put it here until the
  503. 19:11rip number two for example
  504. 19:14and then well let's put a number three
  505. 19:16and then i'm going to specify you know
  506. 19:18the radius and all of that so i'm going
  507. 19:20to put
  508. 19:22a five millimeter diameter or maybe a
  509. 19:25little bit more let's just put a six
  510. 19:26millimeter diameter so that's three
  511. 19:29radius
  512. 19:30and as you can see there it does it
  513. 19:33automatically
  514. 19:34so
  515. 19:35it will adjust you know the height in
  516. 19:38here and there so it's going to be
  517. 19:40exactly parallel to the horizon
  518. 19:43and that way we don't have to do many
  519. 19:45steps to figure out how to you know how
  520. 19:48to place it there and everything it will
  521. 19:50do it automatically for us and that's
  522. 19:52perfect in the in the video was doing it
  523. 19:55you know with the round joiner and doing
  524. 19:57all sort of things to keep it straight
  525. 20:00but this is
  526. 20:01done automatically that's perfect so
  527. 20:03that's why
  528. 20:05so that's how you do it so let's click
  529. 20:07ok and you'll see
  530. 20:09that's our wing joiner right there
  531. 20:13so that's perfect
  532. 20:14okay let's go now to create the outer
  533. 20:17panels of the wing so for that we're
  534. 20:19going to add a new one here
  535. 20:22yes and then and there are several
  536. 20:24options here you can go in detail
  537. 20:26but i'll just select the default one and
  538. 20:30here
  539. 20:31here it is and for this one i don't need
  540. 20:34this
  541. 20:35kind of uh
  542. 20:36bar here so i'm going to
  543. 20:39delete it
  544. 20:40i can put something else there you know
  545. 20:42some kind of a
  546. 20:44different spa or something to join the
  547. 20:46two wings together but for now i'm going
  548. 20:48to leave it like that and then
  549. 20:50this wing is going to be a lot smaller
  550. 20:53this panel because this is the outer
  551. 20:54panel so i want to
  552. 20:56make it smaller
  553. 20:58and it's going to be about 200
  554. 20:59millimeters
  555. 21:01and it's going to have what is going to
  556. 21:04have only f
  557. 21:0760 millimeters
  558. 21:10maybe 80 millimeters
  559. 21:14and the root cause should be the same to
  560. 21:16match this wing
  561. 21:18maybe 100 millimeters and that that
  562. 21:20should be it and then go here and then
  563. 21:22put four
  564. 21:24maybe five
  565. 21:26and then click proceed
  566. 21:28and we have our half wing there
  567. 21:32so that's basically it for this part so
  568. 21:35if i click ok you will see the whole
  569. 21:36wing ready here
  570. 21:38and this is a very basic wing
  571. 21:42for a trainer glider or something like
  572. 21:44that this reminds me of so many gliders
  573. 21:47that i have
  574. 21:48flown
  575. 21:50and
  576. 21:51similar to the riser 100 actually as
  577. 21:53well so let's export this right
  578. 21:56for that we're going to go to the
  579. 21:59dxf
  580. 22:01it's very simple just like here where
  581. 22:03you want to save it i'm going to save it
  582. 22:04in the desktop
  583. 22:06then you can you know
  584. 22:08draw the original rip silhouette so this
  585. 22:11is going to be the airfoil
  586. 22:13uh if you click that it will draw
  587. 22:16you know the airflow and on top of that
  588. 22:18the cut that will be made
  589. 22:20so if you want to use that just click it
  590. 22:23sometimes it's useful
  591. 22:25but it doesn't matter so i'm gonna click
  592. 22:27it and you'll see and then and that's
  593. 22:30okay so it will save that file but you
  594. 22:32can also export it as a
  595. 22:35you know a pdf
  596. 22:37so export pdf
  597. 22:39and then you can select the kind of
  598. 22:42thing that you want to the kind of
  599. 22:43format that you want to export to so i'm
  600. 22:46going to choose a0 a big export and it's
  601. 22:50going to be as a pdf i'm going to click
  602. 22:52ok
  603. 22:53and you will see in a second what what
  604. 22:56will happen so it exported all the ribs
  605. 22:59that you have to cut if you want to you
  606. 23:01know print out the ribs and do it by
  607. 23:04hand it will print several pages with
  608. 23:06that it will show you the information
  609. 23:09about the
  610. 23:10the dihedral
  611. 23:12so from the panel
  612. 23:14one to panel two or whatever the degrees
  613. 23:17the
  614. 23:18distance
  615. 23:19or the size of each panel the the height
  616. 23:23of each panel with the dihedral taking
  617. 23:25into consideration and so on it's really
  618. 23:28good information and then we have here
  619. 23:30the panels actually a0 was too big for
  620. 23:33this so you can build in on top of it
  621. 23:36and start
  622. 23:38building right away that's cool but
  623. 23:40we're going to use the dxf and you can
  624. 23:42also export has a scat file which is a
  625. 23:45file that you have to also convert using
  626. 23:47an open source software to be able to
  627. 23:50export
  628. 23:51obg or you know object files for 3d
  629. 23:54software and it's really interesting
  630. 23:56because you can do cool renderings or
  631. 23:58you can use the 3d the actual 3d model
  632. 24:01of your wing or you know the design to
  633. 24:04for a 3d software whatever you want to
  634. 24:06do something more complicated but we're
  635. 24:08not going to do that in this video i'm
  636. 24:11just going to show you the dxf file
  637. 24:14which is the
  638. 24:15drawing file so here we have it this is
  639. 24:18the wing 2. so i'm going to open nanocad
  640. 24:21again
  641. 24:22and this time i'm going to import that
  642. 24:25file into nanocat
  643. 24:28and
  644. 24:28remember this is the free software
  645. 24:31for cad design
  646. 24:33and
  647. 24:34you can also use autocad or whatever
  648. 24:36other cad software
  649. 24:37for this kind of drawings but in this
  650. 24:40case i prefer nanocut because it's very
  651. 24:42similar to autocad you know in terms of
  652. 24:44the
  653. 24:45layout and the commands and everything
  654. 24:47so let's see what we have here so this
  655. 24:49is the dxf file
  656. 24:52uh with the you know all the drones so
  657. 24:54we have the the wind panels
  658. 24:57view from the top
  659. 24:59the dihedral angles are not considered
  660. 25:01in this wind panel so
  661. 25:03in this view we see the actual length of
  662. 25:06each panel because the dihedral is not
  663. 25:09considered so you have to this is
  664. 25:12perfect because we can build on top of
  665. 25:14it we can print these plans and
  666. 25:15everything and build on top of it and
  667. 25:17here's where i was uh telling you about
  668. 25:20the you know the
  669. 25:22the the profile
  670. 25:24drawing so you can delete this if you
  671. 25:26don't need it and you have here your
  672. 25:29the profile that will be cut from the
  673. 25:31machine
  674. 25:32so these are the
  675. 25:34the wing ribs that we're going to be
  676. 25:36cutting
  677. 25:38whether you're using a
  678. 25:40laser cutter cnc machine of any kind or
  679. 25:42you're cutting it by hand
  680. 25:44you can do whatever modification you
  681. 25:46want
  682. 25:48for instance i can draw
  683. 25:50a different kind of
  684. 25:52lightening holes so i can do this
  685. 25:55that whatever you want and then you know
  686. 25:58trim the excess
  687. 26:03so right there i have a different kind
  688. 26:05of uh airflow that i'll be cutting so
  689. 26:08yeah it's unlimited possibilities with
  690. 26:10uh with the cat software
  691. 26:12and this is cool because you already
  692. 26:14have the most um most difficult part
  693. 26:18which are the wind rips and everything
  694. 26:22all the elements that you need to cut
  695. 26:24design in this drawing so you have the
  696. 26:27the this is the webbing that you have to
  697. 26:30cut as well so that you know in the
  698. 26:32perfect size you have all the
  699. 26:34information here and then the rest you
  700. 26:37know the outer panel of the wing and
  701. 26:39everything else the only thing i don't
  702. 26:41see here is that you see you know the
  703. 26:43identification of each rib but you don't
  704. 26:46see that identification here should be
  705. 26:49detailed here so but we know that this
  706. 26:52is the first one so this is the first
  707. 26:53one then the second one third fourth and
  708. 26:56so on so they are in order so there's no
  709. 26:59need to do that same thing here
  710. 27:02and well this is very square so
  711. 27:05it has the measurements but it's very
  712. 27:06simple to understand
  713. 27:08and
  714. 27:09this the spar news bar i think this one
  715. 27:13is there one in the middle so you don't
  716. 27:15have to cut this this is the actual
  717. 27:17round
  718. 27:18metal tubing that goes inside so after
  719. 27:21that you can you know move around things
  720. 27:23and
  721. 27:24you know cut them or whatever
  722. 27:27so i can make a copy of this or move it
  723. 27:29or whatever you know and maybe for
  724. 27:32example for my laser cutter what i did
  725. 27:35is measured the size of the wood
  726. 27:38that i will cut and then you know did a
  727. 27:41rectangular shape the same size so i
  728. 27:44know my limits the limits i have to put
  729. 27:47the pieces in
  730. 27:49and then
  731. 27:50you know copy and paste all the pieces
  732. 27:52that will go there of course we're not
  733. 27:54going to we're not going to cut this
  734. 27:56we're not going to cut this either sorry
  735. 27:58this should be
  736. 27:59cut actually like this now i'm recording
  737. 28:01this later that i realized this but i
  738. 28:04think i didn't select this option here
  739. 28:06for the leading edge and that's why in
  740. 28:08the drawing it wasn't cutting out the
  741. 28:11the rip that section that what was
  742. 28:13supposed to be cut out and that's why
  743. 28:16so just make sure that you're using this
  744. 28:19trimming tool again
  745. 28:21use that
  746. 28:23and cut
  747. 28:24this part and this part here so that's
  748. 28:27the way the the
  749. 28:29this profile should be cut
  750. 28:31like that
  751. 28:32and
  752. 28:33the rest well
  753. 28:34you do the same with all of them and of
  754. 28:36course we need to cut two of each
  755. 28:37because we need one for each wing so we
  756. 28:40put that like that and then copy it
  757. 28:43and maybe rotate it to save some space
  758. 28:45and
  759. 28:46and take advantage of every
  760. 28:49inch of material you have there or every
  761. 28:51millimeter of material
  762. 28:53and you don't waste too much material
  763. 29:00something like that so that's first rib
  764. 29:02for both wings and so on so you start
  765. 29:05putting everything in there and you know
  766. 29:08ready to to be cut and then save this or
  767. 29:11maybe copy this and create a new one
  768. 29:14a new document and in here you will
  769. 29:16place
  770. 29:17the file that you will send to your cnc
  771. 29:21software for laser coding or cnc in that
  772. 29:25these pieces so finally if you want to
  773. 29:26print your plans with all of this
  774. 29:28information all of these drawings what i
  775. 29:30usually do is you know i go to a layout
  776. 29:34and i go here and
  777. 29:36right click and page setup
  778. 29:38then i just edit it
  779. 29:40and i just select here adobe pdf because
  780. 29:44you know well if you have a printer or
  781. 29:45whatever you can select that but i
  782. 29:47select pdf because i have more options
  783. 29:50here
  784. 29:51and i select you know
  785. 29:52a1 and then
  786. 29:55the
  787. 29:56scale should be one to one
  788. 29:58one to one
  789. 29:59remember and also we have
  790. 30:02forgotten something really important we
  791. 30:04have to change the units so i'm going to
  792. 30:07type in units
  793. 30:08and when you type in units you see here
  794. 30:11it says undefined make sure you're
  795. 30:13you're selecting the ones that you're
  796. 30:15working on in my case millimeters i'm
  797. 30:17going to click ok and now everything
  798. 30:19it's in millimeters and now in the
  799. 30:21layout i'm going to change this layout
  800. 30:25so i'm going to right click page setup
  801. 30:28and
  802. 30:29edit
  803. 30:30and then
  804. 30:33one to one
  805. 30:34but it's millimeters
  806. 30:36one to one again here perfect and i
  807. 30:40have selected a1 because it's a big
  808. 30:42sheet of paper
  809. 30:44click ok close and now i can
  810. 30:47this is the way i do it it doesn't have
  811. 30:50to be
  812. 30:51the way you should do it but it works
  813. 30:54for me so i copy one of the wing panels
  814. 30:57or one of the wings
  815. 30:59paste it in here and then the other one
  816. 31:01and the same thing
  817. 31:03and the same with all of the other
  818. 31:05uh
  819. 31:06wing rips and everything that you want
  820. 31:08to represent in your plans you draw your
  821. 31:10plan here and because i know that i
  822. 31:13don't have to go over this
  823. 31:15working area i know everything will be
  824. 31:18printed perfectly so what i do then is
  825. 31:21go to plot
  826. 31:25and here you select
  827. 31:27what format you want remember and keep
  828. 31:29an eye on this scale one to one to have
  829. 31:32everything
  830. 31:33in this in the correct size and maybe
  831. 31:36you should also draw a line here of you
  832. 31:39know
  833. 31:40that measures
  834. 31:42five millimeters or whatever so that way
  835. 31:44you know that the scale is right you can
  836. 31:47have that as a reference so if i put
  837. 31:49here five
  838. 31:51and then another five millimeters from
  839. 31:53here
  840. 31:57that way
  841. 31:58when whenever this plan is printed uh if
  842. 32:01i take a ruler and i measure from here
  843. 32:03to here
  844. 32:04five or if you have any other reference
  845. 32:06that you know the measurement of
  846. 32:09and it's correct then the plan is in the
  847. 32:11right scale so then i go to plot and
  848. 32:15export the whole thing as a pdf and then
  849. 32:18i order my prints
  850. 32:19and that's it and there we have it it's
  851. 32:21the other way around for some reason but
  852. 32:24i don't know why so i'm just gonna click
  853. 32:26here 180 degrees and that's it that's my
  854. 32:29plan
  855. 32:30a1 so i can order a print off my wing
  856. 32:33and that's it guys i hope you enjoyed
  857. 32:35this video and i'll see you next time
