Design Your Podcast Logo — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00Hey everyone, welcome to this video
- 0:02tutorial for DigiCore
- 0:05for logos. Okay, today we're going to
- 0:07talk about logos. And logos is the
- 0:10branding behind the podcast. But it's
- 0:13not just about branding for your
- 0:16podcast. It's about how to make things
- 0:18that are useful online. If you look at
- 0:21social media, there's lots of different
- 0:23types of logos. If you look at Facebook,
- 0:26I don't know if you're on Facebook. If
- 0:28you're old like me, you're on Facebook.
- 0:30There's heaps of different types of
- 0:33images and logos. I think it's very
- 0:36important because all podcasts have
- 0:38logos. But I want you to learn how to
- 0:40make one. you to learn the skills that
- 0:43you can take into maybe have an auntie
- 0:46who has a business or an uncle or a dad
- 0:49or a mom or someone in your family who
- 0:52needs logos, who needs information.
- 0:56You can help put that online for them.
- 0:59So, we're going to be using a free
- 1:02online platform. Everything I do for you
- 1:04is free and that's the way it should be.
- 1:07So, have a look for vidmix.app. app,
- 1:11vidmix.app.
- 1:13Maybe your teacher or facilitator will
- 1:15provide the link for you. It should be
- 1:18inside your portal a link to vidmix.app.
- 1:22vidmix.app.
- 1:24And Vidmix is where we can do a couple
- 1:26things. We can do podcast editing, but
- 1:28we can also do logo creation. Okay. So,
- 1:32first of all, let's establish podcast
- 1:35logos. So, I'll open up a new page. I
- 1:39take I type podcast logo
- 1:42and look lots of different things come
- 1:45up. Look at that. There's even a podcast
- 1:48logo generator. Well, that's
- 1:50interesting.
- 1:51So, I don't know. You can maybe use that
- 1:54if you want to. Let's have a look at
- 1:58podcasts
- 2:00in New Zealand.
- 2:02Okay, here we go. Well, as you can see
- 2:04here, each of these podcasts has a logo.
- 2:08And
- 2:10this is where we're going to just look
- 2:12at the different This is a bit of a lazy
- 2:15one. New Zealand history just with a
- 2:16flag. Um, look, this is Kiwi. It's Kiwi
- 2:21Bank. So, it's got some green because
- 2:24that's what Kiwi Bank does. Just having
- 2:26a bit of a look around here. True Crime.
- 2:29You can see some of the design here. The
- 2:31gone. They've obviously put a bit of a
- 2:33sniper type thing in here.
- 2:37Can we see anything else? Pacific waves,
- 2:40a little bit of Pacifica designs in the
- 2:42background.
- 2:44So, I don't want you to get caught up on
- 2:46it because you are learning and that's
- 2:48okay. And our job today is to
- 2:53learn together and have a bit of fun. We
- 2:56are going to
- 3:00have a look at my podcast. Okay, this is
- 3:02a podcast that you might see in DigiCore
- 3:06this term. It's called the one minute
- 3:08mentor. So, here we go. Here's the one
- 3:10minute mentor and you can see that this
- 3:13logo here is one that I've created and
- 3:16it's got a couple features, right? One
- 3:18minute. So, I've used this idea of time.
- 3:22I've kind of taken a reddish color which
- 3:24you see here in my YouTube thumbnail
- 3:30and I've had a bit of a play around with
- 3:33it. But what I want to do today
- 3:37is for is for us to have a look how we
- 3:40can design a logo called the one minute
- 3:43mentor
- 3:46in this vidmix.app.
- 3:50So, we load up vidmix.app. And this is
- 3:53what comes up. Nothing. And that's
- 3:55perfect because we're going to start
- 3:57putting things in. Now, every logo needs
- 4:00a background. So, we're going to look
- 4:03for a background. My suggestion is we
- 4:06have a look here in free stock photos.
- 4:10Okay. And I just want to have a think
- 4:12about what's a background. Well, look
- 4:14behind me. There's curtains. What are
- 4:16curtains on? Windows. What a windows
- 4:19part of a wall. Okay, let's type in
- 4:22wall.
- 4:24Well, there we go. We're getting some
- 4:25nice backgrounds. And I already kind of
- 4:27like the look of this wall here. I
- 4:29really like the look of that wall there.
- 4:33Let's keep looking. I'm trying to think
- 4:34to myself, needs to be kind of businessy
- 4:37if it's one minute mentor, which is kind
- 4:39of cool, you know, and
- 4:44I'm going to pick something soon. I
- 4:46don't want you to kind of get too
- 4:47worried about making it perfect. I'm not
- 4:50going to either. Our job is just to get
- 4:53the job done, right? It's about those
- 4:56credits, about learning fundamentals,
- 4:58and let's just get on with it. So, I'm
- 5:01going to go back up. I've had a bit of a
- 5:03squiz, a bit of a look, and I'm deciding
- 5:06I'm going to go for this kind of
- 5:09chunky background. It's got a lot going
- 5:12on, but I've got some tricks here. Now,
- 5:14I just want to go over one more thing.
- 5:16See up here, canvas. Canvas means if
- 5:19you're going to do a painting that you
- 5:21have to decide on the canvas size. And
- 5:23this is the same here. So, click on
- 5:25canvas. You'll probably recognize this.
- 5:27The 96.
- 5:29916 is kind of that kind of vertical
- 5:33what you might see on social media. But
- 5:36during Digi Core, during podcasting,
- 5:38because we may or may not have some
- 5:39video, video is mostly in 16x9 or
- 5:43widescreen. So, we're going to be
- 5:45working in widescreen.
- 5:48Vidmix.app
- 5:50comes to default in widescreen, so you
- 5:53shouldn't have to change this. But let's
- 5:55say your auntie, uncle, mom, dad,
- 5:58someone in your family who knows you can
- 6:00now do logos. They say, "Make me a
- 6:02podcast logo." You might say, "What
- 6:05canvas size do you want?" And that's
- 6:08going to make you look really cool. If
- 6:10you want square, if you want social
- 6:12media story,
- 6:14you get what I mean. Okay. So, let's
- 6:16have a look here. So, I know that I'm
- 6:17missing some size here in the corners
- 6:20because it's widescreen and I've brought
- 6:22in a square image. So, I'm just going to
- 6:24grab the corner. I'm just going to
- 6:25extend it. Going to grab the corner. I'm
- 6:28going to keep extending it. Then, I'm
- 6:30going to find an area.
- 6:33Maybe I'll extend it a bit more. Just
- 6:36drag down the corners. Drag it up. Yeah,
- 6:40something like this is pretty cool.
- 6:44That's what I'm going to do. I'm going
- 6:46to have it like this. Okay. And so I've
- 6:48got a background. And most people can't
- 6:51get this far, but well done you.
- 6:54Okay. So, what else do we need? Well, a
- 6:56logo needs some text. Have a look on the
- 6:59left hand side where I'm pointing to add
- 7:02text.
- 7:04Great. So, we're going to select that
- 7:06text.
- 7:07Notice it comes up down here. Everything
- 7:10in the vidmix.app
- 7:14works on layers. So, this layer down the
- 7:16bottom, that's the picture.
- 7:19When we clicked on add text,
- 7:22that is the text above it. So if we
- 7:25click on select it all then we can
- 7:28change it. Now I'm going to change that
- 7:30to one
- 7:34min one min. Okay. So now I need to
- 7:38decide what I want to do with that. What
- 7:40do I want to do with that? I probably
- 7:42want to have a think about a font. A
- 7:45font is the type of font. You know this
- 7:47is the default one. Let's have a look in
- 7:50here. If I click on this little font
- 7:52area.
- 7:55Yeah, I quite like that. It's chunky.
- 7:57Notice up the top here this little
- 7:59mover. That's quite handy to click on.
- 8:02That allows you to move things around,
- 8:05make them bigger, smaller. Okay. One
- 8:09minute. One min. Okay. Now, I'm going to
- 8:13make another text layer. I'm going to do
- 8:15the same. I'm going to select it and I'm
- 8:17going to write the words
- 8:20mentor.
- 8:22And for this demonstration, I'm going to
- 8:24use the same font cuz I've got a bit of
- 8:27an idea that
- 8:30just going to make it a bit smaller. So
- 8:32it and put it under here. And I've got
- 8:34an idea. I might put a clock or
- 8:37something in there. So I could look for
- 8:39a picture. But there's this other
- 8:40interesting thing. Add GIF or sticker.
- 8:43Let's have a look in here. What's under
- 8:45GIF? GIF. GIF. Let's have a look. Clock.
- 8:50I like GIF because one, they're kind of
- 8:54like transparent, which means
- 8:57they sometimes they cut out the
- 8:59background for you. Let's just keep
- 9:02having a look here.
- 9:04Okay, I like this one. Uh, it's got the
- 9:07background in it, but that's okay. I'm
- 9:09going to make it a bit smaller.
- 9:12Obviously, when you're playing around
- 9:13with it, you can change things up. You
- 9:16can move things around. I want you to be
- 9:18creative. I don't want you to be
- 9:20perfect. I want you to be creative. This
- 9:22is my attempt to be a bit creative. So,
- 9:24you can see one minute mentor. I don't
- 9:27quite know what I'm going to do here.
- 9:30Maybe I'll just have a look in GIF for
- 9:34money.
- 9:35Is that why I'm doing this one minute?
- 9:38I'm not sure. Maybe.
- 9:41Let's uh grab a little bit of a Let's
- 9:45put this little money maker down here.
- 9:49And then I'm just going to grab the
- 9:50text. And one last
- 9:55with
- 9:57Will Fleming. That's me,
- 10:01Will Fleming.
- 10:04Going to change the font to
- 10:10that. Looks all right. Going to select
- 10:14my mover. Just find a spot where
- 10:20can do that. Something like that. I
- 10:23don't mind that. This is not my favorite
- 10:25thing. I feel like it's kind of missing
- 10:27a picture of me. I've got an idea for
- 10:30that. It's going to open up a new site,
- 10:33a new free website. And this might be
- 10:35useful for you if you are trying to cut
- 10:38out an image of you or your guest for
- 10:41your upcoming podcast. You can type in
- 10:44remove BG.
- 10:47And what this does is it uses smart tech
- 10:51to remove BG. Now I'm going to go find
- 10:53an image of me that I took earlier.
- 10:56There we are. That's me. Bit shorter
- 10:58here, but that's me.
- 11:01And I'm going to chuck that in there and
- 11:03let the technology do the work.
- 11:07Come on, baby.
- 11:10Look at that. There we go. Then I'm just
- 11:12going to download it. I'm happy to use
- 11:14the free. Give me free all day. Just
- 11:18make a note of the name, okay? And where
- 11:20you download it to. I'm going to be
- 11:22downloaded to my desktop. If I'm you,
- 11:25I'm getting you or your teacher or
- 11:27facilitator will get you to upload or
- 11:30save your work to your cloud.
- 11:32Okay, let's go back to vidmix.app.
- 11:36Let's open file on the left hand side up
- 11:38here and let's find that image, the
- 11:41cutout one.
- 11:43There we go. Going to make that image a
- 11:46bit bigger.
- 11:52And this is not the most perfect or
- 11:56cool, but it's cool enough. And if it's
- 11:59cool enough, that's cool enough for me.
- 12:02It just shows you've manipulated the
- 12:05software, that you've done a bit of
- 12:06creative thinking, that you've tried to
- 12:10make it work. I'm just going to add one
- 12:11more thing to top it off. Give me some
- 12:14more money. All right. Give me some more
- 12:16money.
- 12:19Where the money at?
- 12:23That's stickers. Let's check gifts.
- 12:25What's in the gifts?
- 12:36Yeah, I can't really find what I want
- 12:38here. Maybe falling money. Falling
- 12:45money.
- 12:47Oh, there we go. Okay, let's see what
- 12:50happens here. Okay, I'm just going to
- 12:53make that.
- 12:55And then look over here, an opacity. I'm
- 12:58going to lower the opacity.
- 13:01Is that working? Or blending mode.
- 13:06Oh, here we go. We're starting to get
- 13:08somewhere now. Look,
- 13:10these play a bit around.
- 13:15So, screen.
- 13:18Hey, that's pretty cool. I'm pretty
- 13:19happy with that. So, look, it plays out
- 13:22here. But what we want is to find the
- 13:26screen that we're happy with.
- 13:29And I'm happy on that still frame there.
- 13:34Let's just move me can over a little
- 13:37bit. Boom.
- 13:41Okay. So, I'm happy with that. Now, what
- 13:44I don't want you to do is click off
- 13:46this. What I do want you to do is hit
- 13:49export. When you're happy, hit export.
- 13:53And of course, because we can use this
- 13:55software for editing, we can do that.
- 13:58MP4 is what your final podcast will be.
- 14:02But we are interested in PNG. And the
- 14:05clue is still. So, let's click on PNG.
- 14:08Let's click okay. Let's name this world.
- 14:13No.
- 14:15One min mentor with Will Fleming logo.
- 14:23That'll do for now. Maybe the portal has
- 14:26a specific name for logo. What I want
- 14:28you to do is save this in your cloud.
- 14:32Okay, this is you will need this later
- 14:35for your podcast or you go back and
- 14:37design a new one for your podcast.
- 14:40Let's have a look at this. Here it is.
- 14:44Here I load it up and boom. I just made
- 14:48this. We made this together and you can
- 14:51do it too. All using this free software.
- 14:56Do something that your friends can't do.
- 14:58Make something cool for your family with
- 15:00your new skills. Practice your logo so
- 15:03that when it comes time to logo making,
- 15:07you can nail your logo. you can edit in
- 15:09your podcast and it will all contribute
- 15:11positively
- 15:13to your credits at the end of DigiCore.
- 15:17I hope you enjoyed this little lesson
- 15:20on making logos with me, Will Fleming.
