4. 0:09Gentlemen my first guest this evening is
5. 0:11a U.S senator from the great state of
6. 0:13Massachusetts and a former presidential
7. 0:14candidate please welcome back to the
8. 0:16Late Show Senator Elizabeth Warren

15. 0:44Madam Senator you come here at an
16. 0:46auspicious time yes uh it is is less
17. 0:49than a week away less than a week from
18. 0:51the midterm elections
19. 0:53um there's a there's a weird dichotomy
20. 0:55out there there uh that there is I've
21. 0:59seen headlines saying lack of enthusiasm
22. 1:02I've seen other headlines to say at the
23. 1:04same time this is historic turnout that
24. 1:06hasn't been seen since the mid 70s
25. 1:09clearly this is an important but strange
26. 1:12time do you have a closing argument as
27. 1:15we go into the last few days so this is
28. 1:17about a huge choice I mean like giant
29. 1:21differences they're going to be four
30. 1:23things on the ballot whoever's name is
31. 1:25there Roe versus Wade is going to be on
32. 1:28the ballot the Republicans want to ban
33. 1:31access to abortion all across this
34. 1:33country the Democrats think that the
35. 1:36patient and the doctor should make the
36. 1:38decision and not your local elected
37. 1:40officials yes Pennsylvania I'm looking
38. 1:42at you
39. 1:45okay that's one that's one
40. 1:48hold on do that
41. 1:50one
42. 1:52two the economy is going to be on the
43. 1:57ballot now the Republicans a lot of
44. 1:59people Republicans a lot of people think
45. 2:01the Republicans have an advantage on the
46. 2:02economy because of inflation oh a lot of
47. 2:04billionaires think that a lot of
48. 2:06billionaires a lot of billionaires think
49. 2:07yes I know you like that a lot of
50. 2:09billionaires think that because here's
51. 2:11the deal the Republicans say their big
52. 2:13economic plan is to cut Social Security
53. 2:16and Medicare and put in more tax breaks
54. 2:21for billionaires and billionaire
55. 2:22corporations can we stop on that for a
56. 2:23second the Social Security and Medicare
57. 2:25that has long been called the third rail
58. 2:27of American politics you would think why
59. 2:29do you think they're willing to lick it
60. 2:33because they have very long tongues
61. 2:45and on that one actually keep in mind
62. 2:47let's do another state the Republicans
63. 2:50have said they want to vote every five
64. 2:52years on whether to keep Social Security
65. 2:54and Medicare but in Wisconsin Ron
66. 2:58Johnson says he wants to vote every
67. 3:01single year so Wisconsin we're looking
68. 3:04at you Mandela Barnes is your guy got to
69. 3:07do this
70. 3:08okay okay that's the second thing and
71. 3:12Democrats by the way want the economy to
72. 3:14work for everybody right lowering
73. 3:16Healthcare was the plan on inflation
74. 3:17though so look it's going after the
75. 3:20costs that families directly feel so
76. 3:23what we're doing is we're lowering the
77. 3:25cost of Health Care uh putting a cap on
78. 3:27the cost of insulin uh the climate plan
79. 3:30will reduce the cost of um of utilities
80. 3:34so we're going directly after look we've
81. 3:37gone after it we've cut student loan
82. 3:39debt for 43 million Americans
83. 3:42that's where families live do you think
84. 3:45that'll go through because there's been
85. 3:48yet another stay by a federal judge on
86. 3:50that do you think that's going to happen
87. 3:51so look
88. 3:53if the judges actually read the law yeah
89. 3:56it's going to happen there's no doubt
90. 3:57that the president has the authority to
91. 3:59do this President Obama did a president
92. 4:01Trump did it and President Biden can do
93. 4:04this
94. 4:05um but take a deep breath on that one on
95. 4:07student loans and just think about the
96. 4:09fact that the president of the United
97. 4:12States is on the side of the American
98. 4:14people 20 million Americans will see all
99. 4:18of their student loan debt canceled half
100. 4:21of all Latinos we'll see all of their
101. 4:23debt wiped out nearly a third of all
102. 4:25African Americans This is an economic
103. 4:28justice issue this is a racial justice
104. 4:31issue this is the first big effort of
105. 4:34the federal government to help close the
106. 4:36racial wealth Gap in America
107. 4:39he's got a three okay three so by the
108. 4:41way I should say on that one anyone who
109. 4:43hasn't should sign up for student loan
110. 4:46debt relief that's uh student
111. 4:49aid.gov right okay
112. 4:52what's the third thing so the third
113. 4:54thing is climate uh it's
114. 4:57our planet is on the ballot the
115. 5:00Republicans want to keep taking money
116. 5:02from Big Oil they want to embrace the
117. 5:06climate deniers the Democrats have
118. 5:09already made a big down payment we have
119. 5:12already passed laws to cut climate
120. 5:14admissions by 40 percent by 2030 and
121. 5:19give us some more senators and we're
122. 5:21going to make more cuts and truly save
123. 5:24our planet this is why Democrats rent so
124. 5:26that's number three that that
125. 5:32is is is that uh climate change bill or
126. 5:36the client the addressing climate change
127. 5:38or global warming uh bill is that in any
128. 5:42way related to the increase in fuel
129. 5:44prices
130. 5:52to clean energy the more we move to
131. 5:55renewable energy the less dependent we
132. 5:59are on Nations like Russia or Saudi
133. 6:02Arabia that decide how high and how low
134. 6:05oil prices are going to be so ultimately
135. 6:08one of the effects of this big climate
136. 6:11initiative that the Democrats have put
137. 6:13in is to bring down the cost of energy
138. 6:16for people all across this country
139. 6:19okay so four
140. 6:22that's three that's three so what's the
141. 6:25fourth one four
142. 6:26democracy is on the ballot
143. 6:31and while the rest of these while the
144. 6:33rest of these are important none of it
145. 6:35matters unless you save that that's
146. 6:37right and we've got to save democracy
147. 6:39let's face it the Republicans continue
148. 6:41to embrace the big lie they continue to
149. 6:45try to excuse and make up for what
150. 6:47happened on January 6th the Democrats
151. 6:50have a very clear message every American
152. 6:52citizen should has the right to vote and
153. 6:55to get that vote counted that's the deal
154. 6:57that's how democracy Works 299
155. 7:01more than half 299 Republicans are on
156. 7:05the ballot this year who have questioned
157. 7:07the Integrity of our election that's
158. 7:09right or whether the previous election
159. 7:10should be overturned right that is one
160. 7:13of the most chilling statistics I could
161. 7:14possibly name yes it is and it is
162. 7:16because it truly
163. 7:18corrodes the foundation of our democracy
164. 7:22canopy walked back because that idea
165. 7:25with absolutely zero not an Iota not a
166. 7:29quark of evidence behind it has
167. 7:31metastasized so widely under the
168. 7:33pressure of the former president to get
169. 7:35loyalty to the people who are running
170. 7:36for office that in every state in the
171. 7:40Union there's somebody running who
172. 7:41believes that yes it can or says they
173. 7:43believe it yes yeah and that's a big
174. 7:45difference but yes it can be walked back
175. 7:48and here's how we walk it back we walk
176. 7:50it back by voting and that's what
177. 7:53happens over this next week
178. 8:00I will I will vote.com go to
179. 8:04iwillvote.com if you're not clear about
180. 8:06where you vote or when you can vote or
181. 8:08if you want to vote early or if you want
182. 8:10to vote on Election Day

184. 8:15neighbors and your friends and your
185. 8:16cousin and your uncle
186. 8:18because democracy requires all of us to
187. 8:22be part of it to be engaged to to get
188. 8:25out there and vote because if we vote
189. 8:27and we vote for people who actually get
190. 8:30up and who tell the truth people who
191. 8:33believe that democracy works when every
192. 8:34American citizen gets the right to vote
193. 8:36and to get that vote counted if we do
194. 8:40that that is how ultimately we beat back
195. 8:43the big lie and we beat back the big
196. 8:45Liars that's how we make it work
