  20. 0:50more right so there we are more plates
  21. 0:53thanks for that guys as you can see
  22. 0:54we're not just getting plates from
  23. 0:56America and Canada and Australia and New
  24. 1:00Zealand and uh South Africa we're also
  25. 1:03getting quite a lot from Europe now
  26. 1:05we've got France Spain Portugal
  27. 1:06represented Germany obviously lots of
  28. 1:08Germany but look East European cles now
  29. 1:11who can tell us where this one comes
  30. 1:13from who can tell us where that's from
  31. 1:15in the comments askers for
  32. 1:1710 there's no prizes Tom no prizes for
  33. 1:20that one right okay you know what this
  34. 1:24is don't you um we Moto Parts the other
  35. 1:28day we went to the weot company we
  36. 1:30bought all the bits for the street
  37. 1:31fighter and at that time a certain
  38. 1:32person not too far from here decided
  39. 1:34she'd lik some bits for her Triumph and
  40. 1:36it is really do a bit with makeover had
  41. 1:38the dve now for 4 years there's nothing
  42. 1:39wrong with it it's absolutely beautiful
  43. 1:41we did the custom work on it what over
  44. 1:43the first 2 3 years wasn't it we did
  45. 1:45loads and loads of videos on it if you
  46. 1:47look in the Triumph Scrambler videos
  47. 1:49playlist there's just loads of stuff we
  48. 1:50slammed it on the big fat wide road
  49. 1:53tires and as it's gone on we just want
  50. 1:55to kind of upgrade things as we go we've
  51. 1:57got Tech exhaust which looks fantastic
  52. 1:59it gives it a whole you look to a
  53. 2:00Scrambler which is high level pipes but
  54. 2:02I think it's time to just go a little
  55. 2:03bit further and do something a little
  56. 2:05bit more fun so the first thing that we
  57. 2:07decided we do is a chain of rockets when
  58. 2:10I bought this bike in
  59. 2:132013 one of the things that niggled me
  60. 2:16straight away was the chainers brackets
  61. 2:20because I felt that for a bike that was
  62. 2:22all black with gold writing on it that
  63. 2:25this dull as pigw a gray chain was just
  64. 2:30miserable honestly and once it gets
  65. 2:32chain lube on it it looks even more
  66. 2:33miserable but it was a utility bike for
  67. 2:35quite some time I didn't really want it
  68. 2:36to look nice I just used it for work and
  69. 2:38once Penny's got it it's become a bit
  70. 2:39more of a princess now hasn't it it has
  71. 2:41your little punish princess pony and
  72. 2:43that means we're going to do some visual
  73. 2:45stuff to to this year we've got some
  74. 2:47brakes coming up and so on but at the
  75. 2:48moment we're going to put a gold chain
  76. 2:50because I showed you the other day this
  77. 2:51rather amazing did gold chain absolutely
  78. 2:55love these I'm going to put one on the
  79. 2:56street fighter that's where we got it
  80. 2:57from it's exactly the same specification
  81. 2:59sight different length but it's exactly
  82. 3:01the same spec as the one for the street
  83. 3:03fighter it's a 525 did gold chain going
  84. 3:06to put that on also going to upgrade the
  85. 3:08sprockets as well uh well so I thought I
  86. 3:11was um because obviously the the
  87. 3:14sprocket on the back of the cowasaki was
  88. 3:16a bit of a mess and it's pretty much
  89. 3:18worn out um minut what I decided to do
  90. 3:21instead was upgrade to a sun star
  91. 3:25sprocket that's the black one that's got
  92. 3:26the Twisted sort of look in it and
  93. 3:29pretty cool that's better and so I sent
  94. 3:33off and I thought i' get a Sunstar
  95. 3:35sprocket for this which would be black
  96. 3:36but they don't make them in Black they
  97. 3:37come different colors so what we've got
  98. 3:39in the end for the Scrambler is a silver
  99. 3:45Sunstar sprocket to go with the gold
  100. 3:47chain that's not the end of the world
  101. 3:48because there's a lot of silver on the
  102. 3:49bike um the shocks are
  103. 3:52silver the exhaust obviously the brake
  104. 3:55disc the other side so we're going to
  105. 3:56pop a silver Sunstar sprocket on there
  106. 3:59which think is rather amazing and
  107. 4:01interestingly enough it's already got
  108. 4:03one did you know that pen No when we
  109. 4:05look closely at the bike the existing
  110. 4:08sprocket that comes from the factory is
  111. 4:10a Sunstar sprocket it's got a Sunstar
  112. 4:12stamp on it so it goes to show that
  113. 4:14choosing a Sunstar sprocket means you're
  114. 4:16picking Factory standard parts and is
  115. 4:19there a better way to do it I don't
  116. 4:21think so so we got that got JT sprocket
  117. 4:23for the front JC sprockets now if you
  118. 4:26don't know about these you should do
  119. 4:28honestly
  120. 4:30even the packets are to get open it's
  121. 4:33that super non bustable plastic but I
  122. 4:35think it yields the scissors in the end
  123. 4:37there we go uh a Sunstar sprocket on
  124. 4:40there and a JT on the front you've all
  125. 4:42seen these they are just about the best
  126. 4:45sprockets money can buy for the front
  127. 4:47now I've done videos in the past as you
  128. 4:48know where I've changed a front sprocket
  129. 4:51prematurely before the rear I do in the
  130. 4:54past I've done three front sprockets to
  131. 4:56one rear because they turn three times
  132. 4:59more of because they are a third of the
  133. 5:02size it ain't odd is it not really it
  134. 5:03really ain't odd but there is no need
  135. 5:06anymore that has been dealt with by the
  136. 5:08likes of JT's brackets because they're
  137. 5:10so hard and they're so durable and tough
  138. 5:12that they just don't wear like they used
  139. 5:14to so you don't have to do that any
  140. 5:16longer you can put chainless spret set
  141. 5:18on it and when it shows itself to be
  142. 5:20worn out and I'll show you how that
  143. 5:21works at the end then you change the
  144. 5:23whole Dar lot it's as simple as that lot
  145. 5:24easier lot less lot less fuss and it's a
  146. 5:27nicer way to do it so going to put those
  147. 5:28on and this a rather amazing Chang you
  148. 5:31just want to see this don't you let's
  149. 5:32have a look let's do the unboxing
  150. 5:37stop come out it's a green
  151. 5:41one there we go look at that how
  152. 5:45beautiful is
  153. 5:47that got The Shins in there yeah look at
  154. 5:50that there we are did gold chain
  155. 5:54525 heavyduty X-Ring chain I don't
  156. 5:58honestly think it gets any better than
  157. 5:59and that that's the kind of chain that
  158. 6:01you would put on a high booster an R1
  159. 6:03any sports bike you care to name with
  160. 6:05any amount of brake horsepower that you
  161. 6:07care to name you can put that on a 250
  162. 6:09horsepower bike and it would have no
  163. 6:10issues at all he going on one with about
  164. 6:1257 horsepower so it's just it's a thing
  165. 6:15of beauty and it will be buffed up and
  166. 6:16kept nice and shiny and we'll use a dry
  167. 6:19lube on it worth dry lube which is a
  168. 6:21really good product that doesn't build
  169. 6:23doesn't get sticky and oily but it does
  170. 6:24leave the channel come to that at the
  171. 6:25end right we put that back in the packet
  172. 6:27because we don't need that at a moment
  173. 6:29wrap all up and let's make a start
  174. 6:31stripping off the factory
  175. 6:39stuff okay look this little puddle of
  176. 6:41tools here that lot and a couple of bits
  177. 6:44of stuff is all you need it's not it's
  178. 6:47not a big involved scary job changing
  179. 6:50the chain of rockets is something that
  180. 6:51does still strike fear into the hearts
  181. 6:53of many people as novice mechanics the
  182. 6:55same as would fork seals headstock
  183. 6:58bearings swing arm bushes all that stuff
  184. 7:00we're going to try and cover it so make
  185. 7:01it really easy demystify the BS and make
  186. 7:03it as simple as it is first job with
  187. 7:05this that's it look that is it I've got
  188. 7:06a big old socket um a big span a few
  189. 7:09sockets bits and pieces there's nothing
  190. 7:11much you don't need a big socket first
  191. 7:12thing you need for the particular bike
  192. 7:15here has got Torx bolts that hold the
  193. 7:17chain guard on so dealing with that I've
  194. 7:19got these funky
  195. 7:22little weha ones you know I bought that
  196. 7:25stuff recently and you just take your
  197. 7:27chain guard off first get get that out
  198. 7:30of the
  199. 7:33way
  200. 7:36J simples here we are the next thing is
  201. 7:41let's get to the front sprocket
  202. 7:43itself you'll have a various different
  203. 7:47method of getting to your front's rocket
  204. 7:49on your bike leave that one in
  205. 7:52last you might have to take foot pegs
  206. 7:54out the way bits of body work out the
  207. 7:56way whatever and I'm sure you can deal
  208. 7:58with that
  209. 8:00if you deal with your bike in the
  210. 8:02correct way a little bit of copper slip
  211. 8:04on the business end of each bolt is
  212. 8:06always a good sign again putting B bolts
  213. 8:09back where they come from what about
  214. 8:12that there's an option is it mhm not
  215. 8:16going to lose
  216. 8:17an job done we'll put that over there
  217. 8:20too okay next thing we're in at this now
  218. 8:22we going to loosen this off before we go
  219. 8:24any further before we take the wheel out
  220. 8:26loosen the back wheel do anything I'm
  221. 8:27going to back off this cuz that needs to
  222. 8:29be held this sprocket needs to be myy
  223. 8:32fingers this sprocket needs to be held
  224. 8:35still in order to get that undone and
  225. 8:36that is a task there's several methods
  226. 8:38I've covered them in the past let's see
  227. 8:40if we can do it just by using the brake
  228. 8:41pedal which is often the easiest
  229. 8:43way on top of this sprocket it's got a
  230. 8:46tab washer that's been bent over so you
  231. 8:48get a big soft metal plate washer and
  232. 8:51the factory just fits the sprocket they
  233. 8:53fit the nut so this is Factory torque so
  234. 8:55that's going to be tight and then they
  235. 8:57tab this little washer over and that
  236. 8:58piece of metal bent over just leans
  237. 9:00against there and it stops IT undoing
  238. 9:02itself quite simple so to get that
  239. 9:04undone you just need a little chisel
  240. 9:05like that come in from the side a few
  241. 9:09Taps you don't need to hit it that hard
  242. 9:12you should never hit anything that
  243. 9:16hard unless you really need to and try
  244. 9:19not to mince this washer because
  245. 9:22ultimately what you'd like to do is tab
  246. 9:24that back over afterwards and use it
  247. 9:25again sayum to replace
  248. 9:28it
  249. 9:34there you go panel beating skills how's
  250. 9:36that right it's getting that done now
  251. 9:38this is a Moment of Truth for any of us
  252. 9:40if you've done this job yourself you
  253. 9:42know this is a point in the in the build
  254. 9:44where you get a moment of dread and when
  255. 9:46it happens or it goes right you get that
  256. 9:48moment of relief so I don't know where
  257. 9:50this is going to be this is Factory
  258. 9:51fitted this bike has never had a change
  259. 9:52rockets that was tored up probably with
  260. 9:55a windy gun by The Factory 4 years ago
  261. 9:58so who knows but the first way of making
  262. 10:02the the chain stay still cuz the chain
  263. 10:04will hold that still that spins cuz
  264. 10:06that's a gearbox sprocket that goes into
  265. 10:08the transmission and through the motor
  266. 10:10and that has nothing holding it still
  267. 10:12you can even turn it with your fingers
  268. 10:14carefully simple as that so if you want
  269. 10:17to get that off normally the first thing
  270. 10:19to try is just lean on the brake pedal
  271. 10:21if you lean on the brake pedal you're
  272. 10:23holding the back wheel still the back
  273. 10:25wheel being held still holds the chain
  274. 10:27still holds that still that should work
  275. 10:29work most of the time it does if it
  276. 10:31doesn't don't lean on it too hard if
  277. 10:33you've got someone standing on the brake
  278. 10:35and you've got a 9- ft bar with two
  279. 10:37friends hanging off the end of it that's
  280. 10:39too much for the brakes you're going to
  281. 10:40do damage to the bike you're going to
  282. 10:42possibly break the cush drives you're
  283. 10:44going to break the little veins in the
  284. 10:45cush drive then you need to resort to
  285. 10:47the chain method I did in a previous
  286. 10:48video where you take the back wheel out
  287. 10:50and you pin the chain around the axle
  288. 10:51that's far more solid but for now let's
  289. 10:54see if it goes this way this is honestly
  290. 10:56live as it happens as it happens
  291. 11:01right get some
  292. 11:04movement
  293. 11:06put on there just lean on the brake
  294. 11:09pedal and lean on
  295. 11:11that that went nicely but as you saw it
  296. 11:14does go suddenly bang it's free there's
  297. 11:17no kind of force to getting it off it
  298. 11:19just pop it just goes simple as that so
  299. 11:22there we are we were very lucky on that
  300. 11:23did with the
  301. 11:28brakes
  302. 11:38[Applause]
  303. 11:40okay now in the past when I've done
  304. 11:42chain videos I've always took a disc
  305. 11:45like
  306. 11:46that and just locked it straight through
  307. 11:48the chain uh in the past before that
  308. 11:50before I had a disc on I just put hacks
  309. 11:51all through it simple as that but it's
  310. 11:53not always a great way to do because
  311. 11:55this chain is actually only 5,000 Mi old
  312. 11:57and I'm going to keep it because long
  313. 11:59long term down the road that will be a
  314. 12:01perfectly serviceable chain it will get
  315. 12:02stored really oily in a sealed
  316. 12:04tupperware box with a little bit of oil
  317. 12:06and saw dusting and it will stay there
  318. 12:08forever until one day I need it simple
  319. 12:10as out some chain Loom or something and
  320. 12:11the same with the sprockets cuz there's
  321. 12:13hardly anywhere on the mure I need
  322. 12:15changing them for a little upgrade so
  323. 12:16the sprockets a bit fancier you got a
  324. 12:18nice gold chain that's really it so I'm
  325. 12:19going to take this out with a chain
  326. 12:21splitter now I've never shown one of
  327. 12:23these I've never done one of these on a
  328. 12:24video um what I wanted to do was to to
  329. 12:28show it properly now in the videos that
  330. 12:30we did
  331. 12:31for uh the fork seals the first fork
  332. 12:35seal video I showed you how to drive in
  333. 12:37a fog Bush and a fork seal using two
  334. 12:39lengths of white plastic waste pipe and
  335. 12:42that's a great hack it always works but
  336. 12:44on the second video as you saw I used a
  337. 12:46proper chain uh a proper seal driving
  338. 12:50tool which I bought instead because
  339. 12:52we're being supported by the patrons I
  340. 12:53want to upgrade the garage a little bit
  341. 12:54and show you there is a proper way to do
  342. 12:56it as well because these tools are
  343. 12:57coming down in price they really they're
  344. 12:59not as expensive as they used to be and
  345. 13:01more and more of you are doing more and
  346. 13:02more stuff so I think it's a wise thing
  347. 13:04to do today to show you how we're going
  348. 13:06to use a chain breaker and rivetter it's
  349. 13:10as simple as that and what I've done is
  350. 13:11I've got a Seely one I'm not
  351. 13:13particularly endorsing this one there's
  352. 13:14loads of them on the market uh this is a
  353. 13:16cely chamber you've seen these you can
  354. 13:18get them on eBay get them from anywhere
  355. 13:20we found I looked on the reason I got
  356. 13:22this one quite simply was I looked on
  357. 13:24sely I like cely tools I've had them for
  358. 13:26years I've got loads of sely stuff and I
  359. 13:28looked on the website and this this
  360. 13:30particular item is something like £72 on
  361. 13:34the cely website but when you go on
  362. 13:36remoto where I got all this stuff from I
  363. 13:38was scrolling down and I was only
  364. 13:40motivated to buy this cuz it isn't 70
  365. 13:42quid on the remoto website it's actually
  366. 13:44only 35 quid £36 so I think it's nearly
  367. 13:47half price if you buy it from Moto and
  368. 13:49we bought all the parts the chain all
  369. 13:51that I just you know it's like like I
  370. 13:52did with the stuff of the kosaki I just
  371. 13:54Chuck the chain breaker in so I'm doing
  372. 13:55this as well to show you how to use one
  373. 13:58of these so have a little look this is
  374. 13:59the tool um it's basically a little a
  375. 14:03little
  376. 14:04press and it allows you to fit these
  377. 14:07mandrels and these little pins and you
  378. 14:09can these rivets here on the Chain it
  379. 14:12allows you to press that pin out nice
  380. 14:15and safely and then when you come to put
  381. 14:16the new Link in it gives you a method of
  382. 14:20of spreading that link in a safe and
  383. 14:22scientific way cuz in the past again in
  384. 14:25the past when I did the last Chain video
  385. 14:27on the rat bite Bandit I used used a
  386. 14:29center punch a hammerhead and a hammer
  387. 14:32and that's the old hack method I've used
  388. 14:33right since the days of planishing the
  389. 14:35mile and mushing them years ago when you
  390. 14:38had the little rivet link you put it
  391. 14:39through the two ends stuck out and you
  392. 14:41just planished it over with a ballpen
  393. 14:43hammer you turned it over into a little
  394. 14:44mushroom so it stayed on well they're
  395. 14:46long gone you don't get those anymore
  396. 14:48you now get a far more scientific method
  397. 14:50I'm going to show you that today first
  398. 14:51of all you're going to split the chain
  399. 14:53I'm going to just press one of these
  400. 14:55tiny pins not both of them you need to
  401. 14:56do one cuz when as soon as you push one
  402. 14:58of those pins out the chain Falls in
  403. 15:00half so I'm going to show you how to do
  404. 15:01that simple first of all is to have a
  405. 15:03close look at this tool there's about
  406. 15:05six or seven things here you don't need
  407. 15:06for this job this particular tool is not
  408. 15:10just for motorcycle chains it's also for
  409. 15:12cam chains which are tiny tiny tiny I
  410. 15:14think it goes from what size is it let's
  411. 15:16have a look this chain is a 525 so it
  412. 15:20goes up to 630 which is a monstrous
  413. 15:22chain right down to 35 I mean a size 35
  414. 15:26chain that is absolutely minuscule
  415. 15:28that's a chain for I don't know like a
  416. 15:30little a little cam chain in a tiny
  417. 15:32engine or something so I'm going to show
  418. 15:33you to use this first of all though just
  419. 15:36to make it a little bit simpler I'm
  420. 15:38going to delete the things you don't
  421. 15:40need I'm not going to use that for a
  422. 15:41motorcycle chain we're not going to use
  423. 15:45that or that or that or that there we
  424. 15:50are now these items here don't worry
  425. 15:53about them they are for other chains and
  426. 15:55other applications they're not for
  427. 15:57motorcycle chain you don't need to worry
  428. 15:58about those these are the only tools you
  429. 15:59need I'll show you the first thing we
  430. 16:01have this is the Press itself it's got
  431. 16:05like a little inner piece there we'll
  432. 16:07show this in two stages first how to
  433. 16:10split the
  434. 16:11chain now you've
  435. 16:13got that a very strong purchase on it
  436. 16:17that is cast steel very strong he comes
  437. 16:20with a little handle that screws in the
  438. 16:23bottom so you can hold it when you're
  439. 16:25doing the job and this thing here is
  440. 16:28nothing more than than a T Bar to turn
  441. 16:30that when the time comes so let's have a
  442. 16:32look at these things here uh you've
  443. 16:35got that and that item are to do with
  444. 16:38fitting the chain and so is that so for
  445. 16:40splitting the chain in half all we
  446. 16:43need is these parts here these are the
  447. 16:46parts we need now the size of the chain
  448. 16:48itself these are three sizes you got 2.2
  449. 16:53uh 2.9 and 3.8 it's 3.8 that you need
  450. 16:56for motorcycle chain that's the size of
  451. 16:58the PIN that goes through the motorcycle
  452. 17:00chain so we pop the little spring on
  453. 17:03there wind it down to the end put that
  454. 17:08inside the magazine and then put the
  455. 17:11back in and that will come out now as
  456. 17:14you push
  457. 17:16through you can see that coming out so
  458. 17:19let's pop it into the actual tool itself
  459. 17:21this little pin needs to be back out the
  460. 17:23way so you back it out so it's actually
  461. 17:27down inside and that gives a Dent there
  462. 17:30there's a there's a hollow in that now
  463. 17:32and that
  464. 17:36Hollow will pick up and centralize on
  465. 17:39the Chain now at this point you can
  466. 17:43start winding on that and that pin that
  467. 17:46protrudes out the end will push the pin
  468. 17:47out but and here's the biggest issue
  469. 17:50I'll show you something on a drawing
  470. 17:52these things are very easy to break if
  471. 17:54you lean on them too hard you can spend
  472. 17:57I sort of cover this bit you can spend
  473. 17:59,000 on a chain breaker and it will then
  474. 18:02break just about any chain in the world
  475. 18:04you could spend 4 or500 on something
  476. 18:07like a Snap-On one and again it will
  477. 18:08probably break any chain that you come
  478. 18:10up to but these things these 70 odd or
  479. 18:1335 as we paid for it these are DIY home
  480. 18:17ones and they they're reasonably easy to
  481. 18:19break if you use them in the way that
  482. 18:21was once directed I show what I mean
  483. 18:24take a look at this right there's your
  484. 18:27chain right that there your two rollers
  485. 18:31inside the chain and you've
  486. 18:34got a pin going through there like that
  487. 18:39and you've got a big mushroom on the end
  488. 18:41as that pin comes through there so the
  489. 18:43chain breaker it fits on this end and
  490. 18:47this end and this pin comes through and
  491. 18:50it pushes on there and it pushes that
  492. 18:53pin out that's its job but what it's
  493. 18:55trying to do is this mushroom over steel
  494. 18:59here and
  495. 19:01here it's looking to Shear that off it's
  496. 19:04got to literally tear that off the pin
  497. 19:07it's got to push that pin through that
  498. 19:09hole using the metal link itself as a
  499. 19:14shear and it's got to get all this metal
  500. 19:16and it's got to rip it off and that's
  501. 19:19quite a lot of force and what happens is
  502. 19:21this little pin inside here it snaps off
  503. 19:24or Worse still it turns into that shape
  504. 19:26because this isn't mad enough for the
  505. 19:29pen remember these pins in these chains
  506. 19:32they are just probably the hardest metal
  507. 19:35in your motorcycle take a file and try
  508. 19:36and file one of the end of them pins you
  509. 19:38won't even make a mark on it they're
  510. 19:40just rock hard tall steel you won't move
  511. 19:42them so try to push them out with that
  512. 19:44little pin you're going to break it so
  513. 19:46to preserve your tool to use some common
  514. 19:48sense grind the head of the pin off what
  515. 19:52I'm suggesting is you take your grinder
  516. 19:54and you grind that head off so it's
  517. 19:56completely flush with the link and when
  518. 19:58you've done that there's no mushroom
  519. 20:00left and all you're pushing out is the
  520. 20:02internals of the pin which is 10 times
  521. 20:03easy I'll show you what I
  522. 20:07[Music]
  523. 20:12mean there we go so what I've done is
  524. 20:14taken that pin and just ground it off so
  525. 20:16it's completely flush there's no
  526. 20:18mushroom nothing's holding that pin in
  527. 20:20other than the resistance or the
  528. 20:21friction inside there so let's get the
  529. 20:23tool set up and push that pin straight
  530. 20:25out now this receiving T this hole here
  531. 20:28here will go over the the back of the
  532. 20:31pin which you can
  533. 20:33feel like that so you can locate it
  534. 20:37quite centrally on there but this
  535. 20:39protruding pin needs to be inside even
  536. 20:42though we've ground the head off that
  537. 20:44needs to be inside the hole recess down
  538. 20:47out the way like a little mole in its
  539. 20:48hole just before you
  540. 20:50start and we locate that on the back of
  541. 20:53the
  542. 20:54chain and then just pinch this in like
  543. 20:58that it doesn't even need any more than
  544. 21:01your fingertight just fingertight that
  545. 21:02up that's all I do hold this still and
  546. 21:06then this pin find it now you can
  547. 21:10normally take the little T Bar press it
  548. 21:13through and start turning and you'll
  549. 21:16feel it
  550. 21:18yield straight away it's not hard there
  551. 21:21you go if it gets really really stiff
  552. 21:24really hard stop cuz what you may have
  553. 21:26done is missed the PIN
  554. 21:29and going and be pushing against the
  555. 21:30plate don't stress the
  556. 21:33tool here we
  557. 21:35go and we just taking that super fine
  558. 21:38thread on
  559. 21:41here and I've got my finger on the back
  560. 21:43of this hole feeling for the pin which
  561. 21:45will produce itself or reveal itself in
  562. 21:48a
  563. 21:52minute it's a nice smooth and even
  564. 21:57resistance
  565. 22:00it's not getting any stiffer or any
  566. 22:02lighter it's just pushing it out there
  567. 22:04it goes and all of a sudden it will go
  568. 22:06light there it is and
  569. 22:10there is the chain
  570. 22:12pin that we've just ground the head off
  571. 22:14and pushed out so let's literally push
  572. 22:17that pin straight out that down there
  573. 22:21and
  574. 22:22then back that back the spike out
  575. 22:25because obviously that's that's through
  576. 22:26the
  577. 22:27chain
  578. 22:30and then back that off
  579. 22:35completely there it is take it away job
  580. 22:38done and that now just come apart like
  581. 22:42that back that right
  582. 22:45out drop out the drive pin check the end
  583. 22:48of it no burs no nothing lovely nice and
  584. 22:51healthy if you grind that head off that
  585. 22:53will push that out beautifully just by
  586. 22:55using that if you have to start putting
  587. 22:57these on the end of that to push then
  588. 23:00that's pushing too hard no pin in any
  589. 23:03chain will ever be so hard that that t-
  590. 23:05bar won't get it out if it is then you
  591. 23:07haven't ground the head off properly all
  592. 23:09right and that's just common sense
  593. 23:11taking care of your tools that you've
  594. 23:13paid for pop that back in so I know
  595. 23:14where it is and I'm going to leave that
  596. 23:17there cuz in a minute when we come to
  597. 23:19put the chain back on we're going to use
  598. 23:20that
  599. 23:22again all right front sprocket cuz we
  600. 23:24already got that
  601. 23:26off that out the way
  602. 23:29now the washer that's in here is
  603. 23:32orientated on teeth like
  604. 23:34that we are sprock it now when you get
  605. 23:36one of these you have a little look um
  606. 23:38that's a
  607. 23:39standard Triumph chain they come with
  608. 23:42this molded rubber damper on it and that
  609. 23:44literally is to prevent Rattle and to
  610. 23:47damp it a little bit to make it a bit
  611. 23:48heavier when you feel them that is
  612. 23:51significantly heavier than the JT one
  613. 23:53which means the rotating Mass rotating
  614. 23:56Mass reciprocating Mass what is it I
  615. 23:57can't remember the round mass is less so
  616. 24:00the engine doesn't have to work so hard
  617. 24:02to turn the bits and pieces so a heavy
  618. 24:03sprocket I mean that's nearly double the
  619. 24:06weight that factory one but it's
  620. 24:07perfectly good so it will carry on in
  621. 24:09the
  622. 24:11future all right 18 too sprocket
  623. 24:13sticking with the factory gearing don't
  624. 24:16see any reason to change it do we p no
  625. 24:18happy with it as it is want sprocket
  626. 24:20back
  627. 24:22on turn it around on
  628. 24:25there now this as you can see
  629. 24:29these teeth or these splines are
  630. 24:31sticking out slightly but the nut itself
  631. 24:33has got a recess on the back into which
  632. 24:35they will fit and then that snuck up
  633. 24:37against the washer so it's definitely
  634. 24:39that way around not that
  635. 24:42way job done that's it bit common sense
  636. 24:46to hold that
  637. 24:48still what I'm doing is putting that
  638. 24:51chain just like that just from there to
  639. 24:54there little bit
  640. 24:57more simp so what I'm doing is I'm
  641. 24:59linking the back wheel to the front we
  642. 25:01found that originally the factory
  643. 25:03tension on that nut was all there walls
  644. 25:06and that was fine for the brakes so cuz
  645. 25:08I haven't done anything to the back
  646. 25:09wheel I've just loosened it off what I'm
  647. 25:11going to do now is just do that back up
  648. 25:13using the brakes
  649. 25:17again so just using the chain to hold
  650. 25:20that
  651. 25:27still there we
  652. 25:29go
  653. 25:32right
  654. 25:46it when you take your wheel
  655. 25:49out have a look at here
  656. 25:53mhm can you see that down there you see
  657. 25:56that little thing turning y on its own
  658. 25:59that's a spacer so look out for your
  659. 26:01spacers because they're going to drop
  660. 26:03out at some
  661. 26:09point right excellent now the spaces
  662. 26:13themselves
  663. 26:17they'll here we go
  664. 26:21right so space are there get rid of that
  665. 26:24so
  666. 26:25wheelnut wheelnut washer spacer that's
  667. 26:29the next thing in the Train on the other
  668. 26:35side here there's a spacer as well and
  669. 26:38put it down the way it's orientated that
  670. 26:40way so you know it's orientated that way
  671. 26:43on and that wheel now we can put on the
  672. 26:46bench right before you do anything else
  673. 26:48before you get involved in the cush
  674. 26:50drives and the sprocket and doing that
  675. 26:51put your axle back through this is one
  676. 26:54of the most common ways to forget how it
  677. 26:56all goes together but your axle back
  678. 26:59in caliper mount back
  679. 27:04on in that spacer which went on that way
  680. 27:07cuz the greasy side's
  681. 27:09[Applause]
  682. 27:11in and that Cal that that space of
  683. 27:15there
  684. 27:18through just honestly just dress it back
  685. 27:20up in order so that every
  686. 27:24faster and spacer is where it's meant to
  687. 27:26be right get SP
  688. 27:40changed
  689. 27:45behind are here's an interesting point I
  690. 27:48said
  691. 27:50earlier sunar
  692. 27:52sprocket exactly the same as the one
  693. 27:55we're putting on well the same brand um
  694. 27:58just a much nicer one and I guess it
  695. 28:01goes to show if the factory choose a
  696. 28:03product then it must be very good must
  697. 28:05it
  698. 28:07well that's better that look nicer oh
  699. 28:10much prettier nicer
  700. 28:17looking Master of the

  716. 29:32[Music]
  717. 29:43B okay now the most important part
  718. 29:46really getting this pressure link or
  719. 29:50compression link fitted in a proper
  720. 29:53manner this is what you get in with the
  721. 29:57kit and it's a little bit different to
  722. 30:00the ones that used to get years ago
  723. 30:02there used to be some that you had a
  724. 30:03little clip that went on and others you
  725. 30:05mushroom the ends over and these are
  726. 30:07nothing like that they're a Precision
  727. 30:09thing and they need fitting in a proper
  728. 30:11way so I'll show you how to do it using
  729. 30:13the tool that we showed you earlier
  730. 30:15which we split the chain with right
  731. 30:17Chain's on absolutely looks fantastic
  732. 30:19wiped off the worst of the white grease
  733. 30:21off the outside of the plates but on the
  734. 30:23contrary internally inside this link you
  735. 30:26need loads and loads of it they Supply
  736. 30:28you a little sachche so open that
  737. 30:31up it's quite nicely made so it just
  738. 30:34comes out the tip and we need to
  739. 30:37put little O-rings on as well so you
  740. 30:41should get four there we
  741. 30:44go and to be exact they're not O-rings
  742. 30:47they're x-rings
  743. 30:48actually it's to be pedantic so don't be
  744. 30:51shy with this stuff get loads of it on
  745. 30:53there all around the
  746. 30:56base
  747. 30:58and then
  748. 31:00bury these the first two O-rings in
  749. 31:04there get them greased over the
  750. 31:07top as
  751. 31:11well the more you put on the better like
  752. 31:15I said don't be shy put Lots on cuz it
  753. 31:18will never get inside this again once
  754. 31:21it's done
  755. 31:26up Mount the ch on the sprocket and you
  756. 31:28want it at about sort of 10:00 or 3:00
  757. 31:30whichever side it is and it's holding
  758. 31:32both Hales then and then pop that
  759. 31:34through from the
  760. 31:35inside there we
  761. 31:39are more white
  762. 31:44grease again you can wipe off any excess
  763. 31:47don't be shy with
  764. 31:49it and two more of the X Rings over the
  765. 31:56top right and then on top of
  766. 32:00those some more grease it helps to stick
  767. 32:04them in place anyway you won't lose one
  768. 32:05and fall off now pop the outer plate on
  769. 32:08most of them will have something written
  770. 32:09on the outside this one's got Japan so
  771. 32:11make sure it's for the sake of OCD make
  772. 32:13sure it's not upside down doesn't matter
  773. 32:15but you know make sure you take the
  774. 32:19trouble to look and then put it over the
  775. 32:21two pin and just press it
  776. 32:23on until it stops you will not press
  777. 32:26that on with your f not unless you are
  778. 32:29Steve
  779. 32:30Austin and I mean The Bionic Man not
  780. 32:32that wrestling Geer who works in the
  781. 32:34desert now there we go just hold it
  782. 32:37there and the grease will hold it as
  783. 32:39well now we need to set out the
  784. 32:42tool all right back to our chain tool
  785. 32:44now this is where the chain splitter
  786. 32:46becomes a chain Riveter so we're going
  787. 32:48to take the actual press itself
  788. 32:51again lift the back out again he going
  789. 32:54to put a different pin
  790. 32:56in
  791. 32:59right now we're going to use the handle
  792. 33:02for the
  793. 33:04back we don't need any pins for this one
  794. 33:07what we need instead is these two plates
  795. 33:09these two plates are effectively the
  796. 33:11anvils that will press that on so we fit
  797. 33:15the first
  798. 33:16one in the back of the press you wind
  799. 33:20that right
  800. 33:21out and fit the other one in the front
  801. 33:25as simple as that now the one with the
  802. 33:27rid on it goes on the back cuz that's
  803. 33:30going on the back of the chain and it's
  804. 33:33going to cover this Ridge come on over P
  805. 33:36mhm this Ridge simply covers the two
  806. 33:40rivets that are on the back and then
  807. 33:43allows it to press on the plate only so
  808. 33:45that's what that Ridge is for and on
  809. 33:47this one you got two holes in it and the
  810. 33:50idea of that is that when that press is
  811. 33:52on the front it allows the pins to come
  812. 33:54through the holes and it allows the
  813. 33:56plate to be pressed over the top of them
  814. 33:58so that's the way around it goes It's
  815. 34:00The Ridge at the back and the
  816. 34:03holes facing you at the front and we pop
  817. 34:06it on top Just Wind this out till it's
  818. 34:09wide enough to fall over the
  819. 34:12top of the
  820. 34:15chain got that pen yep so pop the back
  821. 34:19one on and pull it this way towards you
  822. 34:22so it's in place and you can feel jiggle
  823. 34:25up and down you can feel that that Ridge
  824. 34:27is engaged on the two pens at the back
  825. 34:29nice and evenly then screw this one in
  826. 34:31with your
  827. 34:35fingers until it just all you want to do
  828. 34:39is snuck it
  829. 34:41up there we are that's it that will stay
  830. 34:44there bring that round out the
  831. 34:47way just going to pop a socket on the
  832. 34:50end
  833. 34:51there and turn
  834. 34:54that
  835. 34:55handle you can feel it going on but
  836. 34:58what's very important indeed is to keep
  837. 35:02taking it off and checking how far it's
  838. 35:05going on and I'll tell you at this point
  839. 35:08it's very important that you don't
  840. 35:09squeeze this too much and then just
  841. 35:11wedge that too close onto the back pins
  842. 35:16and then it will be a solid link you'll
  843. 35:18squeeze the O-rings and then it'll be
  844. 35:20too far in some Chang of rockets you get
  845. 35:23they have two little shims that fit on
  846. 35:25the inside and then that stops it going
  847. 35:27too far but this kit didn't come with
  848. 35:29that so what I'm going to do instead is
  849. 35:31measure it at this point before I go any
  850. 35:33further I'm do a couple
  851. 35:37more applications just you want to do
  852. 35:40half a dozen you know don't be shy and
  853. 35:42think you can do it in one
  854. 35:48go there we
  855. 35:52are back off again now when I feel that
  856. 35:56with my finger those pins are flush and
  857. 35:58they need to come through so there's a
  858. 36:00little bit more to go yet before we do
  859. 36:02anything else take a measurement in the
  860. 36:04absence of the little shims that fit
  861. 36:06inside to gauge the width I'm going to
  862. 36:08use a caliper on this one so we need it
  863. 36:11to be pressed in as much as this one up
  864. 36:13here so I'm going to measure that one up
  865. 36:15the
  866. 36:16top coming on
  867. 36:19that exact
  868. 36:22measurement and that is 20.5 mil across
  869. 36:26so coming in on the one we're squee
  870. 36:31we're
  871. 36:3322.2 so we've got about a Mill and a
  872. 36:35half to go so when they're flush and you
  873. 36:38can feel it flush you got about a m and
  874. 36:40a half 2 mil to go so keep
  875. 36:52going right what I found is a quarter of
  876. 36:54a turn on the thread gives you
  877. 36:58about A4 of a millim so when that was
  878. 37:01right out I've done a whole turn on the
  879. 37:03thread to press that in and as you can
  880. 37:06see now that's what sticks out I'm
  881. 37:07coming in close mhm let's take a
  882. 37:11measurement
  883. 37:1420.4 and I've
  884. 37:18got where are we
  885. 37:2220.2 20.2 so that's 02 of a
  886. 37:26millimeter further in so as in it's
  887. 37:29closer together by0 2 of a mil and I
  888. 37:32think that's pretty accurate to get that
  889. 37:33exact I don't think You' do it in this
  890. 37:36life right now the hardest thing or
  891. 37:39let's say the thing that makes people
  892. 37:40the most nervous this is the point where
  893. 37:41I used to hack it I did it in a hack
  894. 37:44method in my old garage video on this
  895. 37:46where you put a hammerhead in behind you
  896. 37:48put a punch on the front and you Hammer
  897. 37:50that punch in but there's a far more
  898. 37:52calm and peaceful and ladylike way to do
  899. 37:55it so let's show as
  900. 37:56done okay setting this up now to rivet
  901. 37:59the pin um we use this one to push the
  902. 38:02old pin out PL it this time this is the
  903. 38:05other one this has got a little Dome on
  904. 38:07the end you want to come in close p on
  905. 38:09that mhm and put a spring on it as
  906. 38:12well right as you see on the end there
  907. 38:15you see it close that's got a little
  908. 38:17Dome on the end like a little a dimple
  909. 38:19but if you look really
  910. 38:21close really close it's got a dimple
  911. 38:24surrounded by a flat area which is very
  912. 38:28important and I use a little diagram
  913. 38:30again just to show you how to do that
  914. 38:32that drops in back of the magazine again
  915. 38:36you screw the press in on top of
  916. 38:40it until it pokes out the end and it
  917. 38:43doesn't want to poke out the end very
  918. 38:45much probably 5 or 6 mil that's
  919. 38:47absolutely fine now that we then have a
  920. 38:49little Anvil here a little receiver
  921. 38:52which goes in that end so that's Now set
  922. 38:54up for riveting the pin but I want to
  923. 38:56show you what that looks like really
  924. 38:59super close up with a drawer in and what
  925. 39:01that looks like how we're going to do it
  926. 39:03okay so we take the chain the pin we do
  927. 39:05one pin at a time if we look at the
  928. 39:09pin the
  929. 39:11pin looks like that if you blew it right
  930. 39:15up with a big camera and this
  931. 39:19tool looks
  932. 39:21like
  933. 39:26that
  934. 39:28and when that goes into there what you
  935. 39:30end up
  936. 39:32with is an
  937. 39:34interface between the
  938. 39:36two like
  939. 39:41that so as you can see as this dimple
  940. 39:44pushes inwards to this dimple they're
  941. 39:47the wrong shape they're slightly
  942. 39:49alternate and as that presses here and
  943. 39:52here is going to spread that out that
  944. 39:54way and that way like that
  945. 39:57so what you end up
  946. 40:00with is
  947. 40:07this one
  948. 40:10piece in the tool like that so that's
  949. 40:13from there that's where it touches and
  950. 40:16that's what we want to end up with with
  951. 40:18that touching each side now this amount
  952. 40:20of flare here is extremely exaggerated
  953. 40:23for the drawing it actually only flares
  954. 40:25out about two or three th000 of an inch
  955. 40:28it's tiny just enough because if you
  956. 40:31look at
  957. 40:32it here is the chain link so you're only
  958. 40:37flaring from there outwards very
  959. 40:40slightly it's not even a visible flare
  960. 40:42you won't see it but what you will
  961. 40:43notice is that when you put it up close
  962. 40:45we're going to try with the camera
  963. 40:46you'll see this Gap where the two don't
  964. 40:49quite meet and there's this Gap here and
  965. 40:51then you'll see as we press it in it
  966. 40:53comes in nice and close and it rests
  967. 40:55against the surface like that and you
  968. 40:57get a nice flat there so let's get stuck
  969. 40:59in so again one pin at a time this is a
  970. 41:04little Anvil with a recess in it and as
  971. 41:07you can see that fits on the back of the
  972. 41:09chain nice and located nice and solid it
  973. 41:14won't allow the back of that PIN to move
  974. 41:16anywhere it won't press on the plates
  975. 41:19pushing them together it only presses on
  976. 41:22the pin it doesn't fit right over the
  977. 41:24pin you notice it moves around let me
  978. 41:25fit fit one on the front if you notice
  979. 41:28there it doesn't fit over the pin and
  980. 41:31touch the surface of the plate it
  981. 41:33actually rests just on the pin alone
  982. 41:36meaning that when that's pressing on
  983. 41:38there and you're pressing on this end
  984. 41:40only the pin is being forced against not
  985. 41:43these two plates which will then
  986. 41:44collapse them too far together which we
  987. 41:46just took all that trouble to set
  988. 41:48correctly so that little Anvil just
  989. 41:50locates on the back and allows that to
  990. 41:53put pressure on the front so let's put
  991. 41:56it in place properly
  992. 42:03on the
  993. 42:05back
  994. 42:11oops got to bring that cuz the the outer
  995. 42:15one supports the inner
  996. 42:16one there we
  997. 42:18are now that's locked in now what I'm
  998. 42:21going to do is
  999. 42:23use the little t- bar because that
1000. 42:25doesn't give me much purchase cuz I
1001. 42:27don't want to press on it a lot I'm just
1002. 42:29going to come in on that and do about
  1003. 42:33half a turn that's it no
  1004. 42:35more come
1005. 42:43off going to do the other
1006. 42:45pin there it is take trouble to line it
1007. 42:48up little tar in and half a
  1008. 42:53turn that's
  1009. 42:55it that's all it needs
1010. 42:57now you can test it if I show you this
1011. 43:01take the pin out okay is our first
  1012. 43:04test I took a little cloth and cleaned
1013. 43:07them out and I'm now just taking the pin
1014. 43:10out I'm just popping it in to
1015. 43:14feel that dimple has still got movement
1016. 43:17inside the other dimple one should be
1017. 43:18flush up against the other so the
  1018. 43:20rounded section of this
1019. 43:23dimple needs to be fully inside the hole
1020. 43:26but at the moment this still still some
1021. 43:27of it outside as you can see there's
1022. 43:29still a gap there so I need to do
1023. 43:31another half turn on them if I can and
1024. 43:35see if I can make that go all the way
  1025. 43:56in
  1026. 43:59okay try
  1027. 44:00again and this
1028. 44:04time that fits all the way
1029. 44:07in so that pin has the The dimple has
1030. 44:10gone all the way in and spread itself a
  1031. 44:13hole big
1032. 44:15enough so that that surrounding collar
  1033. 44:19is
1034. 44:20flush so much so that it sits in the
1035. 44:23hole so you can press on that harder now
1036. 44:26all you like and it won't do anything
  1037. 44:28because you're not spreading it anymore
1038. 44:30you spread it as much as that
1039. 44:33dimple is designed to do and any more
1040. 44:36than that press any harder you're going
1041. 44:38to damage that pin and then break it all
1042. 44:40that is perfectly fine no problems at
1043. 44:43all well there we go simple use of a
1044. 44:46chain splitter and Riveter take it
1045. 44:48careful they can be broken there we go
1046. 44:53handels keep it all safe so this like I
  1047. 44:56said was
  1048. 44:58£35 um it's a silly one there are
  1049. 45:01Chinese copies I just want to make a
1050. 45:03point of this you can spend silly money
1051. 45:05on these you truly can and that's
  1052. 45:07normally I'd call Silly money like 500
  1053. 45:09quid but then if you're a mechanic doing
1054. 45:11this all day long every day you'd have
1055. 45:12no choice but to spend that kind of
1056. 45:14money on the tool you on your company it
1057. 45:16buy it for you anyway but something like
1058. 45:17this with DIY use for your garage is
1059. 45:19absolutely fine and again quite
  1060. 45:22surprised went to C's own website £72
  1061. 45:25went to Wi Moto's website £ 35 same item
1062. 45:29so much better value there we go right
1063. 45:32now we're going to clean this up and
  1064. 45:33paint the
  1065. 45:34link of the
  1066. 45:36sun memories falling on
  1067. 45:44concrete leaving you
1068. 45:47behind King of Silence in this
  1069. 45:50[Music]
1070. 45:54Ry victim of our car
1071. 45:57I'm running in the dark I've into
  1072. 46:03[Music]
1073. 46:10nothing right there we are all done um I
1074. 46:15haven't finished this in the sense that
1075. 46:17I'm not going to show you adjusting the
1076. 46:19wheel because you know how to do that
1077. 46:21and I'm not going to finish buttoning
  1078. 46:22all this up purely because we're
1079. 46:24replacing the disc on the other side of
  1080. 46:26the wheel
1081. 46:27in probably the next video on this not
1082. 46:29him so we're going to do new discs and
1083. 46:31new pads in both ends of the bike the
  1084. 46:34discs simply haven't turned up yet
  1085. 46:36otherwise I would have used the
1086. 46:37opportunity while the wheel was out to
1087. 46:38do it today however today I've just done
  1088. 46:40that that's chain of sprockets I wanted
1089. 46:42to show you the basic mechanical
1090. 46:43principles of changing the chain the tip
1091. 46:45on getting the front off there with a
1092. 46:47brake or using the pin around the axle
1093. 46:49you know that one and how to Riv it
  1094. 46:51chain I'm
1095. 46:52quite where's that link gone there it is
1096. 46:57um paint the tips of the link with
  1097. 47:00something bright even if it's tipex
1098. 47:02something that you can visually keep an
1099. 47:03eye on for the next few weeks while you
1100. 47:05ride the bike till that chain runs in
1101. 47:06and settles down it is squeezed in
1102. 47:09enough they are fled out enough but you
1103. 47:11know how it is there was a day when you
1104. 47:13mushroomed the end of those pins right
1105. 47:15over and you knew they weren't going
1106. 47:17anywhere these you really you just flare
1107. 47:19them a little bit by a few thousand of
1108. 47:21an inch and it just doesn't feel right
1109. 47:23the sort of Our Generation you know as
1110. 47:26old as you know what I mean basically I
1111. 47:28like to keep them so I can keep a visual
1112. 47:30eye on it in the past I've painted the
1113. 47:31whole link but it's pennies bik and she
1114. 47:33only wants too little what's that called
