1:19full police interrogation of Chanda
1:21halderson if you haven't been following
1:23this case or this trial with us then
1:26chander halison on July 1st of 2021 he
1:29was 23 years old
1:30when he killed his parents and
1:32dismembered them he was arrested on July
1:358th of 2021 and the trial started in
1:38January of 2022 so this is a trial from
1:41the past that we are watching for the
1:42first time together and I just have
1:45always wanted to watch this trial with
1:47you so thank you so much to all of you
1:48who are watching with me as well also
1:51lastly before we dive into this I wanted

2:32this a retrial is this a new trial why
2:34are we watching this now what is going
2:36on why do they wear masks all day long

3:30good morning could you please state your
3:32name both first and last for the record
3:35and spell them Elizabeth Allen El i z a
3:38b e t h last name Allan a l l n how are
3:43you employed directly in front I'm sorry
3:46what how are you employed um I'm a
3:48detective with the damee County
3:49Sheriff's Office and were you employed
3:51in that capacity in July of 2021 I
3:55was and uh during that time did you at
3:58some point become a assigned to uh go to
4:03the property on erlwin Road in Cottage
4:05Grove Wisconsin I did okay and when you
4:09first arrived on that property what if
4:12anything um were you assigned to
4:15do myself detective Brent bstock and
4:18detective Tim blank were doing a line
4:22search behind the shed where Crest and
4:26Dolce said they saw Chandler's vehicle
4:30when we got to the property we noticed
4:33what appeared to be fresh tire tracks as
4:37the weeds were kind of pushed down so we
4:39did the line search where the where the
4:43tire trar ended and then once they ended
4:46we went into the wooded area um and
4:49that's where detective bstock found the
4:53Torso and in the course of this
4:55investigation you also came across some
4:58items that turned out to be of note yes
5:02okay I'm
5:16sorry detective I'm going to show you
5:18what has been marked as exhibits 108
5:21through exhibits 113 if you would look
5:24through those and then describe them
5:26generally as a group
5:31so exhibit 108 I'm looking at some oil
5:36drums some overgrown brush and a tree
5:39line
5:46okay exhibit
5:48109 I'm looking into the oil
5:52drum which was previously described in
5:55the first
5:58one exhibit one one0 or one I'm just
6:02going to pause the quy we are going to
6:03see some photo exhibits of course of the
6:05tools that Chandler holders used to
6:07dismember his parents like the saws and
6:09things that he put in the oil drum there
6:11at crest's property if you don't know
6:12who cres is then you got to check out
6:14yesterday which was day three of the
6:16trial we saw Dolce Chris and Cat
6:19melander a lot of people ask me about
6:21the jail calls as well as cat melander's
6:23uh police video interview we will watch
6:26that together at some point we just
6:27start with a trial of course right let's
6:29fin the trial and then we'll get to that
6:31um of course many people have already
6:33seen it it's already out there it's been
6:34out there for a long time but I plan to
6:36watch that with you so you know if you
6:39want to continue following this case
6:40with me that's what we'll be doing at
6:42some point all right so let's keep going
6:44I'm going to speed it up a little the
6:45oil drum and you can see a pair of
6:47scissors a sharp blade and also a
6:51handheld
6:55saw exhibit 111 you can see
7:00the handles of a bolt
7:05cutter exhibit 112 you can see the top
7:08of the bolt cutter the handles are red
7:11and it appears to be a Craftsman
7:15brand exhibit
7:17113 you again see an up close image of
7:21the blade saw the scissors and the
7:24handheld saw okay and did those all
7:27appear to be true and accurate
7:29photograph graphs of what you observed
7:31yes and the date you observed these was
7:33that um the 8th of July 2021 it was at
7:38this point I would move exhibits 108
7:40through 113 into evidence no objection
7:42they are
7:44received uh detective before um I
7:48display these to the jury these exhibits
7:50108 through 113 to the jury could you
7:52just come we have a map here exhibit 57
7:55or not a map I'm sorry an aerial photo
7:57could you show where that oil drum was
8:00um on that date and um where you
8:03observed these
8:07items so here's the oil drum and
8:12this we detected bck and I were out on
8:17the property waiting for the cab dog and
8:21while we were waiting I noticed the
8:23triangle shape in the oil drum and
8:25that's what prompted us to look inside
8:27of it and could you also point out where
8:29you observe those tire
8:35tracks and they should appear on the we
8:38did some map time yesterday which I have
8:40time stamp for you so if you go to day
8:41three map time afterwards we looked at
8:43the property because they keep pointing
8:45down right we can't see that far down on
8:48the printed out map so we did do that
8:50yesterday day three go check it out on
8:51the time stamp later if you just want to
8:53see what they talking about computer
8:55monitor if it's turned on it is okay
9:01okay and I'm publishing exhibit 108 how
9:05would you describe that photo for the
9:08jury so that is the oil drum and if
9:12you're looking at the picture to the
9:14right of it is the tree line and in
9:17between the oil drum and the tree line
9:19is where the tire tracks
9:24were exhibit 109 how would you describe
9:27exhibit 109 so so that is the triangle
9:31shape that I saw from the oil The Rusted
9:36oil
9:40drum exhibit 110 that's the inside view
9:45from the oil drum you can see a pair of
9:47scissors a saw blade and a handheld saw
9:50with a blade
9:54attached oops
9:59all right I'm going to skip I guess to
10:00exhibit
10:02112 um that's again through the oil drum
10:05and you can see the top of the bolt
10:08cutters red handle Craftsman
10:12brand and exhibit 113 um that again is
10:15through the oil drum a pair of scissors
10:19a saw blade and the handheld saw blade
10:22or with the saw attached and exhibit 111
10:25the slide did not somehow make it into
10:27the PowerPoint but if could you describe
10:30that theur the handles
10:33of the bolt cutters red handle black
10:39grips were these items that you observed
10:42in the oil drum collected in connection
10:45with the investigation they
10:51were nothing further of this witness at
10:53this time any cross- examination thank
10:56you good morning good morning couple
10:58questions prior to July 8th had you ever
11:00been to that erlwin road address no and
11:04again prior to July 8th had you ever
11:06seen these items you found in that drum
11:10no that's all thank you any redirect no
11:13may this witness be excused at this time
11:15I know the defense it's like kind of
11:17annoying people say the defense is just
11:19doing their job obviously we know that
11:21okay but we're allowed to make
11:23commentary too of just like shame with
11:26being like oh were you had that property
11:27before huh did you see that out there
11:29before that doesn't prove well it kind
11:31of does because his parents DNA their
11:34blood was on those tools and their
11:37remains were found dismembered
11:38so you know that question actually went
11:42nowhere because yeah those tools being
11:44there stashed there where he was walking
11:46around being all shady you know that
11:49weekend he was actually there on July
11:515th of 2021 by himself at his girlfriend
11:55at the Times girlfriend's mother's
11:57partner's property is pretending that he
12:01can he come for a swim H okay and while
12:04he's pretending to swim and not taking
12:05the cover off the pool he's literally
12:09stashing those tools that he used to
12:11dismember his parents in this old oil
12:13drum and he's Wheeling a bin into the
12:16woods and disposing of his father's
12:19torsa I mean and a bag of bloody Rags at
12:23the front of the property as well like
12:25Goodness Me Barbara nor said it feels
12:26like 3 minutes instead of 3 months thank

12:52employed sir I'm sorry what how are you
12:53employed uh with the D County Sheriff's
12:55Office as a detective uh how long have
12:57you been a detective uh since May of
12:592021 and how long have you been with the
13:01Sheriff's Office December 19th of 2005
13:05uh were you assigned to various parts of
13:07the investigation to The Missing Persons
13:08of Barton chrst halderson and then later
13:10to the homicide of Barton chrst
13:11halderson yes and uh it was one of your
13:14roles at times to be in contact with Mr
13:17halderson with uh I'll phrase it a
13:19different way at at times had you made
13:21contact with Chandler halderson yes uh
13:23did he have your phone number yes uh at
13:26some point on the 8th of July around
13:2910:15 in the morning did you receive a
13:31call that went to voicemail from Mr
13:32halderson I did and uh you've heard that
13:35call in preparation for today um does
13:37that appear to be a USB drive in that
13:39envelope yeah and I'm showing you
13:41exhibit 116 I would move 116 in evidence
13:44no objection it is received and was that
13:46call um the voicemail excuse me was that
13:49uh downloaded and placed into evidence
13:51in this case
13:56yes if I didn't move I'll move 116 and
13:59117 uh for the court record and I'll
14:01move to display 116 very good 117 may be
14:04received I think that's the transcript

14:13um just to confirm the the date and time
14:16uh I think I you answered yes but it was
14:18July 8th at 10: in the morning 10:15 or
14:20so approximately yes okay we're going to
14:23play that right now

14:59examination the state us now we're going
15:01to get a little exhibit here let's
15:03see hi my name is
15:05chanders and I haven't heard anything
15:08about my parents since and I've heard
15:11everyone's been talking to my brother
15:13and not
15:14me and
15:17um I'd like to hear something if you can
15:20give me a call back my number is 920

15:27you oh he doesn't like that why are you
15:30calling my brother and not me excuse me
15:33I'm in charge of this investigation you
15:35got to be calling me
15:38okay and was that the voicemail sir yes
15:41uh did you in fact call him back or uh
15:43did you not have that opportunity I did
15:45call him back okay and did you talk to
15:47him I did uh what did you talk about I
15:50similar to the content of the voicemail
15:53he left he asked about uh updates and um
15:56people speaking with his brother and uh
15:58what did you tell him
15:59uh I informed him that I did not have
16:01any additional updates based on any
16:03information that he' probably already
16:05received from speaking with detectives
16:07the prior day okay were you yourself the
16:09the main assigned case detective at this
16:11point no no further questions cross-
16:16examination detective before calling
16:19Chandler helders back um you knew in
16:23your mind you weren't going to tell him
16:25anything substantial correct
16:29I knew that I didn't have any
16:31substantial information to provide to
16:33anybody he was a suspect at that time no
16:36not to my knowledge so on July 8th to
16:38your knowledge he was not a suspect um
16:41it was early in the morning at that
16:43point no I did not have any additional
16:44information from the night before okay
16:46thank
16:47you any redirect uh no may this witness
16:51be excused he's excused thank you so
16:53much sir have a good rest of your
16:56day good morning Detective I'm going to
16:59talk to you a little bit about um some
17:02communication that you might have had
17:03with Mr halderson at at this point I
17:05know you've testified before um just
17:07going to July 8th um so kind of the
17:10second full day of the investigation the
17:12parents reported the day before missing
17:14um on the 8th did you receive any calls
17:16from Chandler halderson yes I received
17:19three telephone calls from Chandler and
17:21uh did you talk to them all three times
17:24yes okay uh approximately when was the
17:26first call that day uh the first call
17:28was
17:29at approximately 11:30 a.m. okay and uh
17:32what's your recollection did you talk
17:33about Mr halderson uh Mr halderson uh
17:37wanted to inform me that the he had
17:38spoken to the news uh the media uh gave
17:42some interviews on that um I asked him
17:44if he had any further information for us
17:47uh that he may have provided to the
17:48media that we didn't have at that point
17:50and he said he did
17:52not um approximately when was that call
17:55again uh that one I believe was
17:57approximately 11 11:30 a.m. was that
18:00recorded or not that was not uh the next
18:03Call of Mr halderson when was that uh
18:05that one I believe it was at
18:07approximately 1:30 p.m. okay and uh what
18:10did you talk about at that time with Mr
18:12halderson Chandler told me that he had
18:14been searching around in his parents'
18:17bedroom uh located a set of keys in his
18:20father's nightstand the end table uh
18:23that he believed were to the cabin uh he
18:26told me that his brother Mitchell was on
18:28his way over to the Oak Springs home to
18:30grab those keys because Mitchell was
18:33going to drive up with his fiance to the
18:34cabin to check it out okay and around
18:38this time you got this call were you
18:39aware that Dane County had asked Lang L
18:41County to assist in this investigation I
18:43was uh and what was the plan at that
18:45point were deputies from here going up
18:47there yes um I told Mr helders that we'd
18:50like to be in contact with Mitchell as
18:53we are going to be sending uh two
18:56members of the Sheriff's Office up to
18:58assist with the search um I didn't want
19:02anybody going in or around the the home
19:05without law enforcement present sure and
19:07was that call recorded it was not okay
19:11um did something happen between the
19:14second call and you said there were
19:16three calls and the third call that day
19:18that was important in the investigation
19:20yes uh we received information that
19:23Chandler helders was observed out at the
19:26farm um in the in Cottage Grove um near
19:30a wooded area uh I also had just
19:33received prior to the third call
19:35information that uh torso was located in
19:38the area that Chandler helders was last
19:40seen uh in in your mind and in the
19:43course of the investigation is that the
19:44point where this became a homicide
19:46investigation for you versus a missing
19:47person's investigation yes um so the
19:50third so July 8th of 2021 was a very
19:54busy day if you didn't see day two
19:57everything is time stamp for you you can
19:58look in the the pinned comments or the
20:00description box or just hover over the
20:02video so I I made sure to Tim stamp when
20:04they looked around the cabin which was
20:06near Sawyer Lake that's the parents
20:08cabin and his brother was there as well
20:10but on that same day because they had
20:12heard that Chandler had been to CR uh
20:15Crescent lasai property which is was his
20:17girlfriend's mother's partner's property
20:19right in that wooded area they went to
20:22search there and they saw all those
20:23turkey buzzards as well you know
20:25hovering above that area and they found
20:28B alderson's torso there so wow then he
20:32spoke to the media Chand halderson
20:34remember July 8th was when he went
20:35around to all the
20:36Neighbors on the ring cam as well just
20:39like hello what can your camera see that
20:43was also I think that was on day two as
20:45well yes time stamp for you so go and
20:47check it out if you haven't seen that
20:49cuz when you see how he behaved he was
20:51very very creepy um and just measuring
20:54what what would their security cameras
20:56see you know of his house obviously
20:58because he was being super suspicious
21:00and then later that night on July 8th
21:02later in the afternoon he was arrested
21:04and he was initially charged with uh
21:07reporting false information during a
21:09missing person's investigation and when
21:11they confirmed that the remains belong
21:13to Bart halderson then they charged him
21:16with first-degree murder but they had
21:18not yet found Christa alderson's remains
21:20and so because of his girlfriend at the
21:22time cat melinder sharing a Snapchat
21:25screenshot that she took with the police
21:27saying well he was out at this area we
21:28likeed to go swimming um at a weird hour
21:31so they went to go and search that area
21:33and they found Christa alderson's legs
21:35on July 14th of 2021 and so he was
21:38charged with two counts of first-degree
21:39murder two counts of mutilating a corpse
21:41two counts of hiding a corpse and then
21:43of course the initial two counts of
21:45falsifying you know information in a
21:47missing person's investigation so yeah
21:48things escalated very quickly on July
21:518th of 2021 call when was that that one
21:55was uh approximately 3:30 p.m. okay
21:59and uh was that call recorded that one
22:01was recorded and why was that one
22:03recorded and the prior to not um at that
22:06point uh Chandler had called me um we
22:11found a torso in the location where he
22:13was observed uh it appeared to be a a
22:15male torso at that time um Chandler
22:19moved from a person of interest to a a
22:21suspect at that point sure um the
22:24deputies that you had sent up to
22:26langlade County at some point um was any
22:29action taken regarding those folks
22:30headed up to langlade County yes um
22:33those members of the Sheriff's Office
22:35were part of our crime scene unit uh we
22:38immediately called them and arranged for
22:40them to turn around and come back as we
22:42now had a active crime scene okay so
22:45when we watched The Lang Lake County
22:46video and they talked about Dane County
22:47turning around that
22:49was the impetus was you and in that
22:52stage of the investigation where
22:53everything changed that was why yeah
22:55okay um the call that you recorded with
23:00Mr halderson um approximately what time
23:02was that again that was approximately
23:043:30 p.m. I believe 3:38 I'm showing
23:07it's been marked as exhibit number 114
23:09um it's a USB drive
23:12correct correct and uh this is the
23:15recorded call you've had an opportunity
23:16to listen to this or with Mr hollers yes
23:19okay move 114 115 into evidence of the
23:21court record no objection they are
23:23receiving
23:24um okay wait wait wait now we're going
23:26to hear it okay first Alysa say so to be
23:28a Grizzly this community has been a safe
23:30place for me to deal with the trauma in
23:31my life and to be educated as I work
23:33with others thank you so much Alysa it's
23:35wonderful to hear thank you all for
23:37being here okay so let's have a listen
23:39to what Chanda halison said confused I
23:42got two squads parked right outside my
23:45house and they're not really canvasing
23:47they're just kind of sitting there is
23:50everything all right yeah I mean they're
23:53in the area doing canvasing and they're
23:55also uh probably doing a shift change
23:57right now getting our second shift crew
23:58on around 3: 3:30 oh there's four
24:06now something going on that we need to
24:09know well they're probably doing reports
24:11they're probably doing shift
24:13change you know they they've been going
24:15around trying to get a hold of neighbors
24:16so I'm wondering if they're in the area
24:19trying to catch people now that they're
24:20coming home from work I'm not sure I
24:22haven't talked to any of them in just a
24:24little
24:26while all right well any
24:29news my brother I haven't heard from him
24:33no as far as I know they're still on
24:34their way up North couple hour drive so
24:36he's probably halfway into it
24:40right uh yeah I suppose about
24:44yeah any news on your end at all have
24:46you gotten any phone calls text messages
24:49gotten any messages other than from
24:51concerned parents um I can't there's no
24:54mail uh I got a there's a a hold on my
25:02okay is that is that
25:04normal are you guys getting it at least
25:08no we we don't put a hold on people's
25:10mail I've never heard of that happening
25:12before there's a hold on my mail there's
25:14a ticket in there all mail held at the
25:17station is what it
25:19says okay yeah nothing done by us that's
25:22for sure is I'm going need my medical
25:24bills yeah no we wouldn't put a hold on
25:27people's mail and typically only the
25:29people that live at the address can do
25:32that did your parents put a hold on the
25:35mail does it say who put the hold on the
25:38mail I can go check I suppose okay um do
25:44you know of
25:50anything so I don't know it's kind of
25:55stressful sorry so there's nothing new
25:58going on not that I'm aware
26:01of all right yeah who who's there are
26:05you at home still right now obviously
26:06cuz you're saying they're outside who's
26:08there with
26:09you yeah no not they're not with me
26:11they're just four squads just parked
26:14outside okay who was just talking in the
26:16background cat yeah cat's over with me
26:19oh
26:20okay okay I like how I pressed on that
26:23question cuz he like nope no one here
26:25with me it's just four Squad C like okay
26:27then who was in in the background cat
26:29yep she's with me well dumb ass that
26:32would have been the answer the first
26:33time is there anyone there with you yes
26:35my girlfriend's here but no one else
26:38there's just cop cars
26:39outside yeah they're ready to round you
26:42up no I mean I can definitely give you a
26:45call or message you I guess depending
26:48what time are you planning on going to
26:50dinner I'm not sure but okay pretty soon
26:54here is it cool to call you hear what
26:57was that is it cool to call
26:58dinner okay anytime okay well I'll keep
27:02you posted if I hear anything I mean
27:04obviously with the mail that has nothing
27:05to do with us at all I've never heard of
27:07a detective or law enforcement agency
27:09holding somebody's mail um you know and
27:13then as far as everybody in the area you
27:15know you kind of had to figure we were
27:16going to be in the area all day
27:18today yeah I was just wondering why
27:20there were four cars instead of the
27:23canvas
27:24thing yeah um oh any news about that
27:27that blue house with the big
27:30cameras the blue house with the big
27:32cameras is that the one across the
27:34street yeah across the street kind of in
27:37the corner it's a newer house um I
27:40haven't talked to I st by their house
27:43yeah yeah you're dead the one with all
27:44the high tech you know
27:47four 4K quality you know HD cameras they
27:52can see your house he's like oh what
27:54about that blue house so what did you
27:56did you look at the footage huh
27:59is everything okay did you did you see
28:01anything he just really sounds like such
28:03a red flag even yeah this this copy just
28:05like uhhuh yeah know I don't know I
28:07don't know dude well I don't know what's
28:09going on do you know anything I have a
28:12detective that's getting footage from
28:14the area I don't know exactly which
28:16houses he's gotten video from yet but
28:19yeah like they downloaded all of it and
28:21already have it at it oh okay so he's
28:24probably reviewing it
28:26now okay yeah it takes time to go
28:28through those things you figure you can
28:29only fast forward so
28:31much yeah all right okay all right well
28:35I'll give you a holler if anything pops
28:37up um you know and I'll give a call
28:39around and just kind of get a briefing
28:40from people up in the
28:42area yeah I appreciate that okay thanks

28:51bye your incident has been
28:56updated your
28:58has updated couple of questions uh solve
29:01one thing right away this issue with the
29:02mail what was that about uh Chandler
29:05told me that he received a ticket in the
29:08mailbox that um the mail was being held
29:13sure and did you later learn that that
29:14actually was true I did yeah law
29:17enforcement does not have the ability to
29:19hold somebody's mail um so I didn't know
29:21exactly what was going on there uh
29:23throughout the investigation we did
29:25learn that the Windsor post office um
29:28had heard of the you know the missing
29:30people Barton Christa helders and put a
29:33hold on the mail for them at that point
29:35that had nothing to do with you guys it
29:37had nothing to do with us okay um there
29:40were parts of that conversation where Mr
29:41halderson asked about um increased
29:44police presence or whether something new
29:46had happened in the case at that point
29:47something new had happened in the case
29:49right correct um why why did you not
29:51tell him that and why did you answer the
29:53questions in the way you
29:54did so at that point uh keep in mind we
29:57had had just received the information
30:00that a torso was located in the area
30:02that Chandler was at at the farm um so
30:05in the command post we're trying to
30:08arrange a lot of different things A
30:10lot's going on we're trying to you know
30:12control that crime scene out there we're
30:14trying to get our crime scene
30:15investigators back to the area um I'm
30:18trying to get detectives out in the area
30:20of the Oak Springs home
30:22um I was trying to ask Chandler who was
30:25at the house because I'm trying to
30:26determine you know first if he's home
30:29where he's at um like I said he was a
30:32suspect at this point so I just wanted
30:33to find out where he was who he is with
30:37um I didn't want to tip him off you know
30:40that I had other areas or other officers
30:42converging into the
30:45area okay what was the plan at that
30:48point following that call with Chandler
30:51uh at you said about 3:30 correct and
30:54approximately how long before that had
30:55you received the Torso news it was
30:58approximately a half hour prior so
30:59you're 30 minutes in into knowing it's a
31:01homicide investigation what plan do you
31:03come up with in the command post at that
31:05point so we had already uh like I said
31:08called our crime scene unit back to
31:10respond to the farm um we had several
31:14deputies and detectives in the area of
31:16the Oak Springs address doing canvasing
31:19we're contacting neighbors we're talking
31:20to friends
31:23um you know a lot was going on in that
31:25neighborhood so there was an increased
31:27police presence obviously uh throughout
31:30the investigation um at that point a few
31:34phone calls were made just to have uh
31:36detectives and deputies more so in the
31:40area
31:41um and then uh you know basically I was
31:45trying to arrange for uh Chandler to
31:48come downtown to the public safety
31:51building where I was located uh so we
31:53could perform a an interview sure and uh
31:57was there anyone else really wanted to
31:58interview that day uh we wanted to
32:00interview cat also okay cat
32:03melander how was that accomplished uh
32:05what happened so we had some detectives
32:09um and also a deputy assist uh make
32:12contact with Chandler and and Cat uh
32:16they
32:17consensually basically they were told
32:19that detectives wanted to talk to them
32:21downtown and uh they consented to that
32:25okay were they driven downtown or did
32:27they drive themselves
32:28they were driven in squad cars correct
32:31and um were they in the same squad car
32:34or separate squad cars they were in
32:36separate okay when they got down here uh
32:39were they taken to the same room or were
32:41they together for any length of time yes
32:43when they arrived here um when the
32:45squads pulled in uh to the location uh
32:48they were able to talk they were right
32:50next to each other they were escorted up
32:53up the elevators to our interview area
32:56uh which is in an office area of the
32:58building sure to show you it's been
33:00marked this case exhibits number
33:06119 the interview with Chandler was that
33:08audio and video recorded yes it was and
33:10you've seen a copy of that in
33:11preparation for trial definitely 19
33:14appeared to be a USB of that video yes
33:16move 119 and 118 for the court record uh
33:19into evidence any no objection it is
33:23received move to publish you may publish
33:26um well I'm getting ready to do that
33:28um interview rooms they have cameras in
33:31them correct um how many cameras usually
33:35uh there's typically two cameras okay
33:38and when cat and Chandler were brought
33:39into these interview rooms were they
33:41kind of were they walked down together
33:42were they walked down separately how did
33:43that work yeah so they would have came
33:45up the elevator uh together in the
33:48presence of law enforcement uh you would
33:51walk out into a hallway um Catherine cat
33:55would have went down the hallway to the
33:57left and around the corner Chandler
34:00remained in that position because the
34:01interview room he was going to was right
34:03there okay and uh sometimes there's a
34:06delay when people get put in the
34:07interview room for a few minutes yes
34:09okay so if we start 8 minutes in You' be
34:12able to represent that nothing notable
34:13happened in those first eight minutes
34:15other than Mr halderson sitting there
34:16yes okay uh and there might be a minute
34:18or two more right after that before you
34:20walk in correct okay um and and we'll do
34:23that in one second there's another
34:25detective that joins you in this
34:26interview correct correct who is that uh
34:29detective Bill Hendrickson uh why are
34:31there two detectives at this point in
34:32the
34:33interview uh we always have two
34:35detectives in interviews um couple
34:38different philosophies there my focus is
34:41the lead detective is getting the
34:43questionings out to or the questions out
34:46to Chandler and um observing his
34:48responses but I also have to take notes
34:50so I can remember everything that's
34:52being said um the second detective is
34:55also watching the you know the body
34:57language of the person and they can also
35:00chime in if there's something that they
35:01feel I'm missing uh maybe not asking the
35:05right question or asking the question in
35:06the in the proper way to get the answers
35:09that we're looking for um they can chime
35:11in and you know maybe clarify things for
35:14us okay um you know at this point I
35:16think it would probably um be best we'll
35:19play this video um I'll move this
35:22exhibit as to not obstruct anyone's view
35:24approximately how long are we going to
35:25be watching this video detective just to
35:27give everyone an idea of how long
35:29they're going to be moved I believe the
35:31interview is approximately 2 hours long
35:34okay so perhaps dimming the lights judge
35:36would would would be appropriate and and
35:39we may see if uh if we started on the
35:41record with the jury at 9:30 um I don't
35:44know that we can go through the entire
35:46interview we'll we'll find out maybe
35:48we'll take a break during it if we um at
35:50an appropriate point so we don't go much
35:53past 9 90 minutes in here and come back
35:55and finish up the remainder of the V
35:58video before the uh the noon
36:02hour I mentioned we might uh speed up a
36:05little bit but for instance I'll just
36:07jump to 4:30 um
36:11here or I'll jump to 8 minutes and 16
36:14seconds that's just Mr halderson sitting
36:15in an interview
36:17room correct okay now a couple of
36:21questions just first Mr halderson is
36:23eventually going to move to that share
36:24that's in the bigger part of the screen
36:25right yes and that's when you guys come
36:27in
36:28yes we asked him to move to the other
36:30chair uh but looking at that top left
36:32screen at this point um Mr alderson's
36:35there looks like he has a water cup on
36:36the table he does okay um he's not
36:39handcuffed or chained to the floor or
36:41anything like that right no he was down
36:42there consensually at that point okay
36:45and you mentioned that uh as they walked
36:48in cat went to another room if you're
36:50looking at that top left screen um and
36:52you were to walk out that door would cat
36:54have been to the left or would have she
36:55been to the right she would be to to the
36:57right of the screen okay um so at least
37:00in your knowledge the last time Mr
37:01halderson saw cat that's the way she was
37:03walking correct all right um and there
37:05might be a minute or two here um but
37:07we're going to start playing at 8:16 uh

42:47is you had gone to the Windsor Police
42:49Department and reported them missing
42:51right yes okay um I didn't go to the
42:54department I went to the like office
42:57break room mhm area in the same
43:00building the I think it's mixed in with
43:02the city hall okay but nonetheless defin
43:06came and and spoke to you okay
43:10um so you you reported your parents
43:12missing we got some information from me
43:14yesterday um we've been following leads
43:17last night um working today to you know
43:20go through different things um just
43:22trying to locate them right um so I I
43:26guess if you want to start
43:28with let's just go back to to last
43:33Wednesday uh
43:35Wednesday I was with my
43:38Dad we what time Wednesday I remember
43:42when they talk about last Wednesday so
43:45this interview was July 8th of 2021 he
43:47murdered his parents on July 1st which
43:50was a Thursday of
43:532021 so the day before that would be the
43:56Wednesday day they're referring to which
43:58would be then June 30th so when they're
44:02like let's go back to then and obviously
44:04yeah yeah this guy has to go way back
44:07for him much like years ago what do you
44:08mean why why why am I even
44:10here it was kind of a bad day okay why
44:15was it a bad day
44:17um well my M had work so she was gone um
44:23my dad and I were watching something
44:25over lunch it was uh The Wheel of
44:28Fortune and we have we normally have the
44:32couch like with our back facing our the
44:35table we sat at at the end of you coming
44:38downstairs or Upstairs Downstairs that
44:40room with the TV I tossed the
44:43ball and I smash the
44:47glass okay with the dog the dog's help
44:51uh that yeah set my dad off and we tried
44:55to clean it up
44:59okay I don't know about him but I got
45:02injured um but he was mad he didn't
45:06really talk to me too much that
45:10day uh my mom got home at 5: I believe
45:15I that's her normal 5:20 to
45:195:30 what time did she work you know
45:227:30 is when she leaves I don't know her
45:24hours but I know when she leaves it's
45:267:30
45:28and
45:29then all the way up till 5: and she she
45:33comes home 5:20
45:355:30 did she come home about 5:20 5:30
45:39that day I believe so yeah
45:43okay
45:46um so you guys are are downstairs um
45:49just to to touch back in that quick so
45:51the couch so yesterday when we were down
45:54in your basement the couches were in a
45:56bed
45:57I he helped me put him in a bed before
46:00yeah on Thursday but they put it into a
46:03bed so I could sleep near the bathroom
46:06and the dog sleep in that floor so okay
46:09there they'll be a lot better if they're
46:11sleeping on that
46:12floor right so he's explaining the couch
46:15Fort away as his dad helped him push
46:19those couches together so that the dogs
46:21could sleep there and he would be
46:22sleeping in the bathroom is that what he
46:24say like what the heck this guyy just
46:25starting off with big lies just like
46:28well the 30th of June was a bad day no
46:30actually the first was of July because
46:32you murdered your parents and
46:33dismembered them but okay the 50th of
46:36June he says was a bad day because you
46:38know he was playing with a ball with the
46:40dog and the dog smashed the glass on at
46:42the fireplace yeah yeah I mean wow to
46:44start off with that like wow what a red
46:46flag what a conversation starter he was
46:49using that fireplace on the evening of
46:51July 1st going to the second because he
46:53was trying to burn
46:57parents dismembered remains and when
46:58that plan failed he thought oh crap
47:00clearly and had to go and Scatter
47:03remains
47:04everywhere how horrific so right there
47:08that's a lie he's already he's already
47:10introducing the injury to his you know
47:12he didn't say toe but he got injured why
47:14in case they find blood in case they
47:16find blood he got an ouchie on his toe
47:18and today we will see an exhibit of that
47:21toe we will see a picture of that huge
47:25sarcasm in
47:27um injury downstairs floor yeah just
47:30cooler for or something kind of probably
47:34okay all right so you were tossing a
47:36ball what type of ball was
47:38it this gross hairy tennis ball that
47:42Rizzo loves all right just like a green
47:44tennis ball like a normal yeah okay the
47:47with the squeaker not not like a tennis
47:49racket ball but they don't chew my dog
47:52chews those out of the any tennis ball
47:54they just chew the squeakers out and
47:55then they don't play with them anymore
47:57um all right so you just tossing that
47:59around um broke the fireplace glass uh
48:02you said you were injured what type of
48:04injury did I got a pretty deep hole in
48:06my foot uh last night Mary looked at it
48:09and she said the reason it keeps
48:10bleeding is cuz there's glass in it oh
48:13that's the you showed us your toe yeah I
48:15showed the detective
48:17Le yeah show us your toe Chandler show
48:20it he's going to show it later to the
48:23detectives okay we won't see it yet you
48:25guys will have to wait for the toe to be

48:37she's thinking but Neosporin has been

48:51back to Wednesday once I got all the
48:53glass out of the dog's hair um she
48:57didn't sustain any injuries good uh
49:00nothing even on her nose she got it with
49:02her shoulder bone I

49:09um so glass dog that was roughly around
49:152 and then the rest he didn't really
49:18talk to me I went back to
49:21doing like a job search kind of just
49:26[ __ ] my my day away just g games

49:31maybe uh that's when I came across one
49:33of the jobs I liked um then 5:00 rolled
49:37up by and we M came home um
49:43dinner what you guys have Wednesday
49:45night I could tell you
49:49okay who made
49:51it I think it was probably just stuff
49:54from the fridge I don't I think we all
49:57did our own thing again
50:01sure by the way a detective at my house
50:04said something happened and while we
50:06were leaving people were going inside is
50:09there a warrant for my
50:11house should there be no I'm just
50:14wondering if Okay can they go in as far
50:17as I know they were at your house and
50:19they were going to be there talking to
50:21you to ask if you would come up here and
50:24talk to us but um officer hey
50:28just like walked pretty much in to the
50:31gate you know the gate on the outside
50:34she just kind of walked in I was I was
50:35wondering was that when you were getting
50:37your wallet uh no we were we were um I
50:41was in the car waiting to leave I was
50:43just wondering if everything's okay cuz
50:45she said Something's Happened okay and
50:48we need to go down all right I'll find
50:51out what that's about well has anything
50:53bad happened oh not sure
50:57all right so so Wednesday night mom
50:59comes home um Dad was angry was was he
51:02yelling or what was how how would you
51:04describe dad being angry it
51:07was if you he would yell if you said
51:12something to him I guess if you talk to
51:14him if you give him his space he'll be
51:17okay so Wednesday night Wednesday if you
51:21just give him his
51:23space that's all we did just give him
51:25his space he he wouldn't yell or do
51:28anything
51:29okay that's all we had to do um just I
51:34went to clean uh do some
51:38laundry uh make our
51:42beds stuff like that who we mom and I
51:46your mom
51:50okay that was Wednesday night yeah that
51:53and we had an early night no no TV that
51:55night

52:00um what time did your parents go to bed
52:02Wednesday night do you think I was in
52:05bed at 8 I yeah

52:16was 23 years old at the time he's 23
52:19sitting there and he's making like I was
52:21grounded and there was no TV that night
52:23and just gave dad space he was very
52:25angry mhm I'm sure that day his dad was
52:28upset because he just found out that CH
52:30had been lying about going to college
52:32lying about having a job really lying
52:33about everything so that is interesting
52:37very telling you know when they leave
52:38little little bits of information that
52:40are the truth they they pepper it in
52:42they meaning you know defendants like
52:44this that'll later found to be very very
52:46guilty but I mean just being like yeah
52:49no TV that night and went to bed at you
52:51know 8:00 p.m. you're right 8:00 p.m. I

54:37abusive guy like he doesn't like it when
54:39we aren't cooking slaving away in that
54:42kitchen I mean chanler likeed to cook
54:45yes but uh Christa also did I mean there
54:47was apparently lots of food preparation
54:49there I don't know I think this is just
54:50obviously already building the story of
54:53like Dad was a very very angry guy and
54:55but he's giving himself away already cuz
54:57like I feel like they were arguing when
54:59I went to bed oh okay what were they
55:01arguing about probably that we didn't
55:03cook doesn't like that oh my goodness

55:15grills he he likes to grill he grilled
55:17on Thursday

55:32his dead on Thursday I'm going to triple

55:47was trying with a measuring tape to
55:50measure the size that the remains needed
55:52to be so that he could burn his parents

55:58that would never work out but he did try
56:01to burn some they did find some over a
56:03100 bone fragments in the ash trap and
56:07also one bone right there in plain sight
56:09in the fireplace even though they were
56:10fresh logs put on but when he says that
56:13is just like he grilled on Thursday with
56:16the context we have now oh wow I told
56:19one officer the Green
56:22Egg he got um the mix terrible food but
56:28yeah Dad does yeah oh the Green Egg
56:31itself oh the Green Egg that's like a
56:32grill or something yeah it's insulated
56:35and makes everything Smokey oh
56:38okay um it's Thursday
56:42morning how we
56:48up what time is it 6 okay
56:53dogs we talked about that yesterday 6
56:55a.m. is kind of your deal right 6 a.m.
56:58yep the internal clock now yeah I
57:01haven't used things in a
57:04while
57:07six I don't have any
57:10breakfast so I kind of just stay in my
57:13room on my
57:14phone um help my mom out getting
57:19ready in the morning she she left for
57:22work at
57:247:30 I got her
57:28um whatever she had to do what was
57:34it this is meaningless tasks like just
57:39daily like pillowcase changes and Sheet
57:43changes stuff like that you know in the
57:46morning before work yeah that's what we
57:50always do
57:54um then she's
58:00gone uh my dad starts the grill around
58:048:39 in the morning yeah to get the
58:07temperature
58:10right we'll see working from home that
58:13day or yes
58:16okay oh my he's to make it like the Dead
58:19start at the grill at 8:30 in the
58:22morning to get the temperature just
58:25right I mean
58:27the think that he says he's just telling
58:29them without telling him as Barbara no
58:30said that green egg makes terrible food
58:32makes everything Smokey is what he said
58:34you know in case they're wondering why
58:36is the house why does it smell so Smokey
58:38oh it's those the green eggs mhm so
58:42saying that his dad started the grill at
58:438:30 to get the temperature just right
58:45on that day July 1st of 2021 in reality
58:50Chandler shot his father in the back
58:52just after what police believe is just
58:55after three p.m. and then his mother
58:58when she got home so yeah this timeline
59:02is interesting of how he says it went
59:03that day
59:06we um we ate the grill nothing really
59:10happened between that we kind of either
59:11were outside with the dogs from the
59:14lighting of the
59:16grill him going in taking a couple
59:19calls now and then or emails or
59:22something but we just kind of watched
59:24the grill and waited to get it set
59:26steady at uh the hamburgers for 350 is
59:31okay
59:34then so yeah we just kind of
59:38waited for the
59:40burgers
59:42um and then we had we ate noon
59:51NO3 or 12:30 sorry
59:54sure um
59:57then we went inside and had our TV show
1:00:01again Wheel of Fortune it's always on
1:00:03arounder time for
1:00:05lunch or was it Family Feud Family Feud
1:00:09was
1:00:10Thursday family Fe
1:00:14um where did you guys watch that at
1:00:16downstairs same okay did you guys have a
1:00:19TV upstairs I don't remember no no okay

1:00:29I mean according to him the dad you know
1:00:31this is none of this is true okay based
1:00:32on evidence in this case okay but
1:00:34according to him he L the GRS um at 8:30
1:00:38in the morning so that they could have
1:00:40burgers at 3:50
1:00:44p.m. I mean only him and his dad would
1:00:46be home then his mom wouldn't even be
1:00:48home yet but interesting timing seeing
1:00:50as he murdered his dad just after 300
1:00:53p.m. so already then in reality he would
1:00:57be thinking about what am I going to do

1:02:49shrimp scampy for my dad cuz that's what
1:02:51he wanted but

1:02:56sense can't even keep track of his own
1:02:58life so there's burgers at 350 his mom
1:03:01gets home after 5 now it's shrimp scampy
1:03:03cuz that's what his dad wanted wow all
1:03:06this activity is talking a lot about
1:03:08food yeah but in reality that's not
1:03:10really what was going on clearly Rob
1:03:12says thank you for your excellent trial

1:04:02gas so I'm like all
1:04:05right I grabbed the pipe repair stuff
1:04:09from his um Plumbing chest or plumbing
1:04:12plumbing box it's like a tote of what
1:04:15you need for pipe repair
1:04:20mhm um and
1:04:24two whatever Jerry cans I can't remember

1:04:29amount but they're red with the safety
1:04:34nozzles got those squared away they had
1:04:38most of their duffles already packed at
1:04:40that point M and we all just started
1:04:42bringing him down to the mud room with
1:04:45the shoes yeah by the garage where you

1:04:53um after that we watched
1:05:01uh that there a Netflix original um you
1:05:06know seven underground with they thrill
1:05:09seeking
1:05:12like it's like they they fake their
1:05:14deaths and they they fly airplanes and
1:05:18um they like fight that evil of the
1:05:21World by being
1:05:24ghosts pretty cool I don't think I've
1:05:26seen that one yet who was watching that
1:05:29the three of us all three of you okay
1:05:31all three and that put it at 9: they had
1:05:35their
1:05:36drinks
1:05:39um went to my computer my computer was
1:05:42at that that black table we said it sure
1:05:45we saw that stuff
1:05:49um oh dealer says what I understood was
1:05:52the burgers cook at 350° they were
1:05:54consumed at 12 tiities is that what you
1:05:55all understood as well I'm going to have
1:05:57to listen again again to that maybe
1:05:59maybe that could that would make more

1:06:09midnight well after true maybe even kind
1:06:14of lose track of time and my parents by
1:06:17then were asleep and got their teeth

1:06:29upstairs oh that was Thursday yeah so I
1:06:32did so we got the bed all set before
1:06:35they before we played tarov and that's
1:06:38when I crawled into bed from the the
1:06:41black table so after our movie we set up
1:06:45my my couch bed and um the pillows for
1:06:49the girls who helped you set the bed up
1:06:52my dad dad okay yes he knew he was
1:06:55leaving and I would need
1:06:58that
1:06:59um Friday
1:07:02morning I woke up they had left with the
1:07:06stuff was all set out they remembered
1:07:09the
1:07:12gas um I found the the the folding
1:07:17chairs that they wanted to bring but
1:07:19they never brought them I'm assuming
1:07:21they can fit them they're
1:07:24big so I put those away
1:07:31um that was Friday morning I go
1:07:34upstairs do the dog or feed the
1:07:38dogs it was around 6ish not 6:15 when I
1:07:42woke up I was a little late that day

1:07:47okay uh just when I looked at my phone
1:07:52mhm dogs s my M's note the insurance for
1:07:58my
1:08:00appointment I
1:08:02just ate whatever is on the counter I

1:08:17there's a peninsula yeah with the
1:08:20insurance stacked up but I I moved it to

1:08:27and then those insurance cards were
1:08:28there also that we saw yesterday yeah
1:08:31okay um I don't think she knew which one

1:08:35need but I have three now mhm
1:08:46um okay Friday yeah I hung out with cat
1:08:50Friday night I believe would you do
1:08:53Friday during the day oh yeah just work

1:09:01um I kind of [ __ ] the day away play
1:09:04video games okay parents are gone why
1:09:08not right yeah I didn't do anything that
1:09:11I should have I should have been
1:09:12cleaning and all of
1:09:16that the house seemed pretty clean when
1:09:19I was there you see all the dog hair
1:09:21that that's got to be gone comes along

1:09:35cat came over after whose work cat she

1:09:52um so she's done own five a cat came

1:09:58straight here after I I believe she came
1:10:01over um could have been later like 6
1:10:04maybe give her time for like getting

1:10:15um it was after work you say where she
1:10:18work at she works downtown Middleton is
1:10:21a farm Tech okay she um um I believe she
1:10:26stayed with me on that couch that
1:10:31night so she spent the night
1:10:34over
1:10:40yeah you guys both slept on the couch
1:10:43downstairs

1:10:48um what' you do before you went to bad
1:10:51that was Friday night
1:10:56that might have been my own night I

1:11:00spent that night alone I just kind of
1:11:02gained online with some my
1:11:06friends I said Saturday night I'm so

1:11:13night I GED alone all
1:11:16night one night cat spent the night on
1:11:20the
1:11:21couch oh and Sunday she spent the night
1:11:24in my bed with me she helped me out
1:11:27stairs Sunday night Sunday night I know
1:11:29that
1:11:30because she didn't want to spend another
1:11:33night on the couch bed she didn't like
1:11:37it and she went to work on Monday
1:11:39morning so that was the my bed night we
1:11:44um backtracking one night she spent on
1:11:48the
1:11:49couch me with like the couch bed we've
1:11:53made mhm but one night I gamed all night
1:11:57or all day and night pretty much and I'm
1:12:00pretty sure that
1:12:04was Friday night and let's go with
1:12:07Saturday was my night alone
1:12:11okay let's go with you Saturday was my
1:12:13night alone so it was Friday then you
1:12:16gamed all night um AKA had that
1:12:19fireplace going
1:12:20huh so so Friday we believe she came
1:12:24over over yes and then Saturday was the
1:12:27game night
1:12:29yes so backtracking to
1:12:32Friday when she came
1:12:35by
1:12:38we um actually we just um oh bright no
1:12:44not bright um there's this movie or TV
1:12:48series on Netflix we watched pretty much
1:12:51the entirety of that into the morning
1:12:55was
1:12:58um apocalypse show I don't know the
1:13:03name what time do you guys think you
1:13:05went to
1:13:09bed I say we stayed up well
1:13:13until 10 I would say
1:13:17p.m. yeah okay there got to be at
1:13:22least um
1:13:27the
1:13:32morning Saturday we didn't do much she
1:13:36left
1:13:38um this is when I'm really starting to
1:13:41notice my legs okay I'm kind of having
1:13:45the the anxiety and all of that like
1:13:49getting a little frustrated with myself
1:13:51and all that like I it wasn't too bad
1:13:54until
1:13:57like last week Tuesday when I started
1:13:59noticing it and Saturday was like the
1:14:03peak and it's kind of stayed out like
1:14:06this okay Peak anxiety and and this kind
1:14:10of like set me like fast for some space
1:14:14and I just kind of gamed
1:14:17Saturday
1:14:20um couldn't tell you when I went to bed
1:14:22I I think I might have even stayed up
1:14:24till
1:14:26two that
1:14:28yeah
1:14:35um yeah it just the same game escape

1:14:41um I I couldn't get a hold of any of my
1:14:44friends to play with unfortunately I
1:14:47played like some here and there m from
1:14:50Discord but none would like stick around
1:14:53for that late in the night
1:14:56okay then we get to Sunday it's the
1:15:014th the morning I'm a little worried
1:15:04about my
1:15:05family I think I called my
1:15:09mom oh throughout I've called I I don't
1:15:12know the times
1:15:14though throughout the weekend I mean but
1:15:17I called my ma I
1:15:18believe in the morning or along those
1:15:22lines and I get a text from her
1:15:26it was a text message it wasn't even an
1:15:28iMessage so M I
1:15:30assume she said White Lake
1:15:33today so she sent it that
1:15:37day um I couldn't figure out where she
1:15:41was through because it was a text there
1:15:44was no IM message so I kind of just like
1:15:46left it at that they're safe they're
1:15:50alive then
1:15:57it's the
1:15:59afternoon I'm talking to
1:16:03Dan I call him up and I ask him well
1:16:06what he's
1:16:09doing or maybe that was the morning but
1:16:11I I called Dan that Sunday as it's
1:16:15difficult hey what he's like maybe it
1:16:16was this day or maybe it was that day I
1:16:18mean he's I think he's doing that
1:16:19intentionally of course he's also trying
1:16:21to tell the story in reverse he can't
1:16:23keep a story straight he's trying to
1:16:25keep track of his own lies with his
1:16:27timeline but he's also you know bringing
1:16:28in a lot of ambiguity there of maybe it
1:16:31was Friday night till 2 maybe it was
1:16:33Saturday maybe cat came over on Friday
1:16:35maybe it was Saturday or Sunday I don't
1:16:37know I mean yeah no they tracking
1:16:40everything just like I'm sure many of us
1:16:41are um I know that he's uh his Cadence
1:16:46is a bit annoying here because it's not
1:16:47his baseline from what we've seen from
1:16:49you know the ring camera footage the
1:16:51media interviews the way he spoke to the
1:16:53police officers very very
1:16:55slow he's speaking like a sloth he's in
1:16:58sloth mode trying to keep track of his
1:17:00own lies okay but I don't want to speed
1:17:02it up because I wanted us to see his
1:17:04body language and everything as it
1:17:07is look at him go if we speed it up it
1:17:10will see him like he's speaking like he
1:17:11did to everyone else he isn't super slow
1:17:14very carefully thinking about all these
1:17:16lies and trying to you know trying to
1:17:19get them to make sense but they don't do
1:17:21you think they make sense nah they
1:17:23hardly do what he what he's up to if you
1:17:26wanted to hang out cu I don't like being
1:17:30alone at the house very
1:17:31long and Dan is mom's coworker slf
1:17:34friend yeah he's best

1:18:04think so throughout the day um the dogs
1:18:09it's just me and the dogs the fireworks
1:18:12and the dogs are like running around in
1:18:15into things I'm trying to keep them okay

1:18:21spilled their water they haven't eaten
1:18:25it won't go outside for me um even on a
1:18:28leash I couldn't get

1:18:32out what was the deal with that
1:18:34fireworks oh the fireworks are spooking
1:18:36them so much yeah all day so I think he
1:18:39was spooking I put them both into the
1:18:42the fort crank the
1:18:48TV did that seem to help at all with
1:18:51them yeah they the loud t helped um
1:18:55Rizzo doesn't like or maybe does like
1:18:58new girl the TV show so we watch that
1:19:02the it's the theme song that gets her I
1:19:04think she
1:19:06barks
1:19:08um so we watch
1:19:11that um Izzy fell asleep so Izzy's the
1:19:17the old dog the older one so we're in
1:19:20Sunday we're Sunday evening cat comes by
1:19:24to help help me with the girls so she
1:19:27wasn't there during the day no no it was
1:19:29just me and the dogs she left Sunday
1:19:33morning okay from
1:19:35the no no she
1:19:39left Saturday morning because I spent
1:19:43Saturday by myself I see that and then
1:19:46Sunday it was just me and the girls
1:19:50till whenever cat got there
1:19:55we didn't
1:19:55eat together I don't

1:20:03so I went to cat's
1:20:06house on Sunday I actually yeah so that
1:20:10was Sunday morning is when I left the
1:20:12girls so all of Sunday morning I had the
1:20:15girls in the fort we watch new girl I
1:20:19went to cat's house Sunday to eat but we
1:20:22ended up not eating there we went
1:20:25to um crest's
1:20:29house it's Cottage Grove or Cascade no

1:24:11is 2020 how these criminals just give so

1:28:17them and we went to my house
1:28:21together so roll got dropped off the
1:28:24cats yeah the duplex in the east side

1:28:31talking about Sunday July 4th of 2021 he
1:28:35murdered his parents on July 1st of 2021
1:28:39and he spent that
1:28:41night with that fireplace going trying
1:28:44to burn their remains that he had
1:28:47dismantled that did not work out well so
1:28:50you had to come up with new plans so on
1:28:52Saturday you was selling cat you know
1:28:53he's doing lots of chore she can come
1:28:55over for dinner but then she needs to go
1:28:56home and she can come back on Sunday
1:28:58morning so she did come over and left
1:29:01and she came back on Sunday he went to
1:29:05cat's house then they went to cr's house
1:29:07for a Fourth of July type of you know
1:29:09like lunch and then they went to
1:29:13Christa's co-worker's house Dan's house
1:29:15to watch the
1:29:16fireworks and then eventually Chandler
1:29:19and cat went back to his house where
1:29:22they were apparently sleeping in that
1:29:24couch Fort
1:29:25area so I'm just reminding us cuz he can
1:29:30you know he can go this way and that way
1:29:32and when you look again you're like
1:29:33which day are we on again and which is
1:29:35what I think he's trying to do obviously
1:29:37is to just distract with way too many
1:29:40details but you know we keep track
1:29:42obviously the police are keeping track
1:29:44and by this time you can see the time at
1:29:45the bottom here as well on the 8th of
1:29:47July of 2021 they had found a torso on
1:29:51cr's property where CR and dce which is
1:29:55Chandler's girlfriend of the time mother
1:29:57doce and her partner Chris it was

1:31:57we're we're going to be late like stuff
1:31:59like that goofy crap uh I drove to Dan's
1:32:03okay which car were you my dad's Subaru
1:32:06he a blue driving your dad's Subaru
1:32:10around uh-huh but then also suddenly
1:32:12your legs are working you can drive I
1:32:14thought your legs were giving out on
1:32:15Saturday already and you they weren't
1:32:18working you couldn't drive but there he
1:32:20is driving all over the place we've
1:32:22already seen a presentation of
1:32:24the home and just the in and out with
1:32:26the vehicles in and out he was going all
1:32:28over the place making trips to Fleet
1:32:30Farm to you know quick is it called
1:32:33quick trip I think it is buying ice
1:32:35buying torps buying all sorts of things
1:32:38and scattering his parents remains in
1:32:41the
1:32:42garage

1:33:27police I mean he can't even keep his
1:33:29story straight between his girlfriend

1:33:38that flew back back out of it yeah that
1:33:41one stuck in for a little bit that's why
1:33:44it's so bad but these are sparks okay
1:33:46those are a dance house you got this

1:33:54you don't hold the stick the stick flies
1:33:56withth it oh sure I didn't

1:34:25bush so we were like no more of that

1:34:35fire no no thankfully it wasn't hot

1:34:41cleaned I gave him a bottle of wine as a

1:34:48come I thankfully I still have a couple

1:34:58home um while over there Dan had a few
1:35:01beers his girlfriend was there or fiance
1:35:05or or wife I'm not interesting because
1:35:10they you're like dance girlfriend fiance
1:35:13wife but when you're talking about your
1:35:14own girlfriend's mother's partner your
1:35:17like Girlfriend Chris that was fiance
1:35:20Chris okay there a relationship but she
1:35:23was
1:35:24there know her name never got her
1:35:28name Just Dance girlfriend she's got
1:35:31purple hair she's it at MATC like the
1:35:35school is all in it yeah she did better
1:35:37than you chz anybody else there just the
1:35:40two of us and then the neighbors watched
1:35:43one to our left and one across the
1:35:45street one
1:35:48group um the one across the street had
1:35:51some cooler stuff than I've ever ever
1:35:53seen a person be able to own firework
1:35:59wise um but there there we are and then
1:36:04then someone in the distance kind of
1:36:06closer to our house launched a
1:36:09mortar artillery firework mhm and then I
1:36:13was like okay we have to go home for the
1:36:15dogs so we went and that was
1:36:21pushing 9:30 9 45 we got
1:36:26home we uh got into the couch
1:36:34Fort and
1:36:38then and put on Daybreak was the
1:36:41apocalypse show
1:36:43Daybreak
1:36:45um I put on that because we're trying to
1:36:48finish it on Netflix
1:36:50yes um this is cat and I still
1:36:54spending the night um the whole time
1:36:57dogs are pushing me nosing me and
1:37:00everything and so we kind of stop and
1:37:03stop watching and she goes to
1:37:05bed
1:37:07um I'm trying to let the dogs out her at
1:37:10least go to bathroom a little bit but
1:37:12the fireworks they she they
1:37:16couldn't
1:37:18um we get to bed upstairs in my room uh
1:37:23because she doesn't like the couch and
1:37:25she had work in the morning
1:37:27yeah and I'd say that's 10ish 10
1:37:3310:30 and the whole time the younger dog
1:37:36keeps jumping on us um so I leave cat in
1:37:40the bed and I go sit out out down in the
1:37:45the the couches and chairs down by the
1:37:47real dinner table mhm I go sit there and
1:37:50just hang out with the dog so cat can
1:37:52get asleep
1:37:54where we first started talking last
1:37:55night like kitchen dining room and the
1:37:58coaches okay got I sit down there so cat
1:38:00can get some sleep cuz I don't work
1:38:01tomorrow she does
1:38:03MHM um then I put the ladder in front of
1:38:07those steps so the girls can't come
1:38:09up I uh they pee on the kitchen the ties
1:38:15so I clean that and like well at least
1:38:18they went before bed you know it wasn't
1:38:20the worst any hydron peroxide chy hm
1:38:23what did you clean it with what all were
1:38:25you doing oh these details are just it's
1:38:27just so much fluff the detective really
1:38:31have to focus on those bullet points of
1:38:32like wait cuz they already know they
1:38:35already know things he's going to get
1:38:36arrested after this interview we'll see
1:38:39it thing they're not going to go outside
1:38:42yeah then I go to bed
1:38:46okay then it's Monday
1:38:48morning cat goes to work 7:50 is maybe
1:38:55earlier this would be Monday morning
1:38:58July 5th of
1:39:002021 so his girlfriend goes to work and
1:39:04now he's planning to go back to cr's
1:39:07property but later he goes there later
1:39:08in the afternoon I think it was around
1:39:104: or 4:30 p.m. yeah cuz he's deciding
1:39:14what's he going to do with his Dad's
1:39:16remains scary stuff then I'm left to
1:39:19myself
1:39:20so we put on New Girl the couch for it
1:39:24on Monday morning
1:39:27mhm I go back and forth through some
1:39:30video games and then back in video
1:39:41games back and
1:39:48then those don't like to stand up very
1:39:51good yeah I'm sorry I'm try to stretch a
1:39:53little B I'm sitting hurts
1:39:56um so you girl video games this is
1:40:03Monday um we're getting later I have a
1:40:06little bit tea for
1:40:10lunch Monday I well at the end of the
1:40:14day on
1:40:16Monday I did
1:40:18go or the afternoon I did go to the farm
1:40:23to talk to Crest and Cat's
1:40:26mom I told them what's happening with my
1:40:29health because I had the appointment at
1:40:31to did you go to the farm before or
1:40:34after after because I told them what
1:40:36happened to me and I told them the legs
1:40:39are probably going to be permanent and
1:40:42the headaches should be fixed after the
1:40:45Hemorrhage is cleared a little
1:40:47bit
1:40:50so now that I'm there
1:40:56I talked to their mom
1:41:00um and Crest
1:41:03together
1:41:05and I think Kat's mom is all right with
1:41:09me
1:41:12she's I don't know if she wants me to
1:41:15move into her the East Side cat's house
1:41:19okay and start paying rent as an
1:41:21apartment because she doesn't like that
1:41:22I live at home does cat live with their
1:41:25mom or cat has an apartment okay
1:41:29somewhere cat does yeah it's

1:41:37somewhere on the east side he said
1:41:39earlier said other names too but now
1:41:41okay she's got an apartment maybe they
1:41:44wanted me to move in there and pay rent

1:42:40yesterday that she didn't even know that
1:42:41Dolce was going to be there it was like
1:42:44whoa cuz she do had come over because
1:42:46she heard the Chandler had gone over and
1:42:48she's like what he went over by himself
1:42:51you know and she was all embarrassed
1:42:52because Chris would normally be around
1:42:53topless around her house or swimming
1:42:54topless so she was like oh no he's going
1:42:56to he's going to get a big fright so she
1:42:58raced out there as well and then they
1:43:01were all there you know as in Chris doce
1:43:05and Chandler but he's like yeah when we
1:43:07got there we were there I was telling
1:43:08them what happened to me what happened
1:43:10to you you mean what happened to your
1:43:13parents but yeah he was playing the
1:43:15victim all the
1:43:16way um right by the swimming pool is the
1:43:19shed so they're they wanted to watch me
1:43:22like

1:43:26know break down and all that so after
1:43:31what they the shed is near the pool not
1:43:35really not where he was parked it's near
1:43:37the pool and so they just wanted to
1:43:39watch me break down so they are swimming
1:43:41and they want to watch me break down
1:43:43what is he even saying my goodness I
1:43:46noticed they're just watching I I just
1:43:49walk over to him
1:43:53describe your breakdown to me uh I
1:43:57actually
1:43:59cried the guy laughes start oh my word
1:44:03this guy is so wow wow he's just like I
1:44:06was actually crying no dupid Delight
1:44:09right there he is smiling his ass off he
1:44:11thinks this is funny
1:44:12now sure did you see that okay keep
1:44:16going in Grass just doing the toddler
1:44:20tantrum [ __ ] um then I
1:44:24hopped in the water with them okay so it
1:44:27was too late I was in the water and he
1:44:30realized Crest didn't have a top um and
1:44:33that was
1:44:34uncomfortable but I talked to them more
1:44:36and that's when she brought up the
1:44:37housing situation how she doesn't like
1:44:41all my parents
1:44:42like are I guess I don't know what she
1:44:46know she doesn't know them that well
1:44:48she's never met them okay CH was saying
1:44:51that my cat's Mom oh mom is U speaks
1:44:57his first thought right away so that
1:45:01she's so they're offering me to get a
1:45:05job live with
1:45:07them work for them while I'm working and
1:45:11pay rent and that's kind of their their
1:45:14deal I would have like a month free of
1:45:16rent or a month or two maybe if if
1:45:19they're thinking um not I could be able
1:45:22to borrow a car from Crest maybe if
1:45:25she's nice or not using it I'd be able
1:45:28to go to work she have a lot of cars or
1:45:31something no no okay there's an extra
1:45:34one probably she stays at the farm okay
1:45:38so if she didn't need it I could use it
1:45:41true to go to a job or at least
1:45:44interviews yeah y I was hoping for a job
1:45:49you know near where I live so I could
1:45:51bike I keep me you know these going I
1:45:55don't I don't think they can get worse
1:45:57but I I could keep doing it you

1:46:43me the whole time so there's no
1:46:45possibility that I went there into the
1:46:47words this probably the narrative he's
1:46:49trying to build right they were watching
1:46:50me have this little breakdown Tod
1:46:55tantrum sh is what he said yeah toddler
1:46:59tantrum it sounds about right but he
1:47:00wasn't crying he wasn't having a tantrum
1:47:03he was hiding his dad's dismembered
1:47:05remains and then got in the pool if you
1:47:08didn't see the testimony of doce and
1:47:11Chris you got to check that out from day
1:47:14three you ever have your legs yeah no
1:47:21just I don't even know if they're done
1:47:23getting like as bad as they they can be
1:47:26yet so that's a that's not fun and I

1:49:58to bed cuz I kind of had a day yeah what
1:50:02time you think you left I kind of had a
1:50:06day yeah you did mhm her place say
1:50:12nine left about 9 okay
1:50:17um she didn't come with you no I was
1:50:20alone that night okay
1:50:25um don't really want to drag her away I
1:50:28think she stayed at her apartment that
1:50:30or her house that night not apartment

1:50:48just I can't remember dday um

1:50:57something or not wakes me up I I did the
1:50:59six again with the dogs and the food but

1:51:08but um Dan is worried about my M on

1:51:18my M I don't know if he called or I
1:51:21think he just contact that's what I can
1:51:23think of reached out yeah he reached
1:51:25out then I'm like oh it's Tuesday
1:51:27morning they should be here um no
1:51:31worried I think I called my mom that
1:51:36day all right and
1:51:40then you talk for her no she she never
1:51:43picked up either it's always the
1:51:47the the voicemail inant voicemail you
1:51:50know when you yeah so it's off out of
1:51:54range I don't know the other factors
1:51:56that could give you that it's like a
1:51:58voicemail right away go right to
1:51:59voicemail right yeah okay so whatever
1:52:02factors can give you that so I might
1:52:04miss that so from the time factors he
1:52:07doesn't know what other factors all he
1:52:08have to say is I called my mom which is
1:52:10a lie and it went straight to voicemail

1:52:57Memorial because that's that's the weend

1:53:03that you don't get time off for the
1:53:04fourth so so basically from the time
1:53:07that they're gone at the cabin in your
1:53:10home you know running around doing what
1:53:11you're doing you just said one
1:53:14communication with Mom yeah that's kind
1:53:16of I I just assumed the amount of people
1:53:20the where they at and whe you're all
1:53:23well I understand I'm just making sure
1:53:26her not contacting but this was it's
1:53:28interesting how he's like realized along
1:53:30the way crap the text that he sent
1:53:32himself from his mom's phone from their
1:53:35home right damn it it said that they
1:53:38were going to the parade on the 4th but
1:53:39the parade didn't happen on the 4th so
1:53:41that's very fishy to him now he says but
1:53:43it's just like something that he messed
1:53:45up Also earlier um

1:56:00it was a Monday I could have gotten a
1:56:02dollar one but it was full price I
1:56:05believe and I I grabbed that the coffee
1:56:07cuz it was a free one he hasn't used it
1:56:09for weeks so we grab that had a quick
1:56:12trip I couldn't tell you which one I was
1:56:14just driving at that point um when you
1:56:18get when you use a it's rewards card is
1:56:20what they call it right you Center is
1:56:22full number typ it you type

1:56:28um but I got a coffee had to be I'm
1:56:32assuming
1:56:33Tuesday and I got a free
1:56:36one sweet it's it was terrible oh it was

1:56:47Tuesday uh cat's working up and I'm
1:56:51gaming job hun and then I um then I
1:56:55started trying to get the the
1:56:58glass CU I've been a little lazy on the
1:57:03glass I just kind of had chairs in front
1:57:05of it sh the way that he smiles it's
1:57:07such activities he was doing I broom
1:57:13and you know a little sweeper holder you
1:57:16know you broom it into that dust pan
1:57:19yeah um tossing the glass
1:57:22into the
1:57:26recycling
1:57:28um I get most of it there's there's a
1:57:30bunch in the cracks of the stone that
1:57:33I'm picking off by
1:57:35hand I think I didn't injure myself from
1:57:37that
1:57:39but um
1:57:42just
1:57:47yeah just
1:57:50um I blood was kind of on the flooor so
1:57:54I got the Swiffer I borrowed from
1:57:57cat from the the
1:57:59foot I bar a Swiffer him up I Swiffer
1:58:04the the floor floor like not the stone
1:58:06but the
1:58:07floor and then I got a little bit in the
1:58:09kitchen his blood was all over the floor
1:58:13he
1:58:14says you know because he knows in case
1:58:17they maybe do like a luminal test or
1:58:19something no no he Swiffer that floor y
1:58:22C to bring hydrogen
1:58:23peroxide and also a Swiffer that he
1:58:25borrowed I mean there was plenty of
1:58:28cleaning equipment at the house but he
1:58:29wanted his girlfriend to bring him a
1:58:30Swiffer it's also
1:58:32weird so strange this guy but it's just
1:58:35like my blood was all over the floor
1:58:36from you know that toe injury which
1:58:38again we're going to see an exhibit of
1:58:40that
1:58:41later and then everywhere kind of I
1:58:44walked pretty much the the bathroom the
1:58:47kitchen and then I couldn't get the
1:58:50carpet so I still stained that up little
1:58:52crap interesting everywhere he walked
1:58:55there's just going to be blood
1:58:56everywhere so if they find blood
1:58:57evidence in that house it's just because
1:59:01he had an ouchie on his
1:59:03toe where was there carpet at the stairs
1:59:06between basement and kitchen carpet oh

1:59:10stairs um I tried I can't get it
1:59:15out I don't know how to do that
1:59:19but um then all the way up to my the
1:59:22laundry room where I found my first aid
1:59:24kit I just tried to stop all the

1:59:34left foot yeah left foot

2:00:37um I think the worst was the that floor
2:00:41that like it kind of like you know like
2:00:45this lid puddles mhm it was wasn't good
2:00:49we in the floor down in the basement
2:00:51well that one um and then I go
2:00:56upstairs to the kitchen and it's still
2:01:00going and I'm trying to get my foot in
2:01:01the sink just to slow it down and pinch
2:01:04it
2:01:06maybe um and then I waddle upstairs
2:01:11to the waddle the the IAC or the the
2:01:17first aid kit first a
2:01:18kit and um once I got it kind of bundled
2:01:23up that's it stopped for for what I
2:01:28know then I
2:01:30go I need to get some
2:01:33tape um we have a tape box in the
2:01:35basement I go there and I I open it up
2:01:39again I bled a little bit more but the
2:01:41basement was easy to clean that's just
2:01:44cement just little bit of wire and I
2:01:46ragged that up you're telling on
2:01:49yourself well the basement was easy to
2:01:51clean it's just you know cement there
2:01:54will be evidence shown tomorrow day
2:01:57five so we'll see a lot of exhibits

2:05:16yeah hanging out um notice she's kind of
2:05:20falling asleep
2:05:23so I'm like okay I'm ready to get out of
2:05:25here and I go home get the girls all
2:05:29ready for bed going
2:05:32outside get them
2:05:37water what time do you think you made it
2:05:41home say
2:05:439 at the latest
2:05:48um two
2:05:50girls F water not really food they've
2:05:53ate before but
2:05:55water and played like indoor play time
2:05:58and yeah bathroom sure
2:06:03so you know what's crazy everything but
2:06:07in this in this interrogation but this
2:06:09is a according to Chandler a missing
2:06:12person's investigation that's what he
2:06:14thinks is happening but he hasn't once
2:06:15mentioned like are my parents okay where
2:06:17do you think they are I'm just so
2:06:18worried about them are you have you got
2:06:21your leads I mean it's just all this
2:06:24successive detail about every single day
2:06:27the whole timeline which just he's so
2:06:29guilty I'm my word this guy I mean dude

2:08:21on leaving it there right and who knows
2:08:24what else cuz he also stashed the murder
2:08:27weapon there so I forgot to mention that

2:08:31tools his dad's torso a bin a tarp a bag
2:08:36of bloody rags and the rifle that he put
2:08:39in the shed when that Bond where he said
2:08:41he's having that breakdown mhm while
2:08:43you're having this breakdown and
2:08:45pretending like they're maintaining eye
2:08:46contact with you at all times they being
2:08:48chis and do say really you're sneaking
2:08:50into this Barn to hide the murder weapon
2:08:53really you're sneaking into the woods to
2:08:55hide your dad's torso and a bin and a
2:08:57tarp and all of that wow Texas to bug
2:09:00says all of a sudden he's cr's besti he
2:09:02just like spamming her I'm sure she
2:09:04loved that right chanler like you just
2:09:06spamming her lighting that phone up
2:09:08you're right and this he's like wait
2:09:10where are we now Wednesday dude it's the
2:09:13day before this interview

2:10:06saying there her dad lives there he's

2:10:1190 he he got a buck when he was 95 or
2:10:15something so I I know if he didn't know
2:10:17what I was he could have

2:10:29they are deceased of course he can use a

2:11:11calls I get a picture of the property at

2:11:16cabin I see
2:11:19that so I'm looking at the cabin
2:11:24then it doesn't look right there's a
2:11:25birch tree in in
2:11:28front and I I didn't like the look of it
2:11:31cuz that didn't that didn't just sit
2:11:33right with me a little bit but I it
2:11:36looked like tracks or pushed down into
2:11:38the grass a little bit I don't know it
2:11:40literally didn't that's when they went
2:11:43out to look at that cabin up North near
2:11:47soyer
2:11:48Lake they literally said well the grass
2:11:51is so tall we heard the hilen dorfs
2:11:54testify we heard Mitch his brother
2:11:56testify no the grass was not pushed flat
2:12:00at all as if no one had been there for a
2:12:02long time from the picture and Mike said
2:12:06there was like light tracks like someone
2:12:08was
2:12:09there where was the birch tree at it
2:12:12looked like it was in the middle of the
2:12:14drive and sometimes we do do that we we
2:12:17find a fallen log and we put it like a
2:12:21you know a double door entrance so you
2:12:24go in from the gate you park you move
2:12:26the next and then you drive yeah sure so
2:12:31that's like the only security we can get
2:12:32up
2:12:34there um some we have done that
2:12:37before the grass is overgrown but that's
2:12:40from the storm and the Fallen trees you
2:12:42can't mow there because the
2:12:49flowers so with the birch tree I mean if
2:12:52you guys typically put stuff down like
2:12:54security why why did it look weird to
2:12:57you this time you never seen that log we
2:13:00have we have this log that's close to
2:13:04the shed
2:13:05it's I would say closer to petrified
2:13:08than rotten it's hard like really
2:13:12hard yeah I don't know what kind of tree
2:13:15but that's what my dad and I use when we
2:13:17go so you typically use the same tree
2:13:20this one just seemed out of place too
2:13:22yeah that's not the tree we use gotta
2:13:31um where are we Wednesday morning uh
2:13:33Jane sends you a
2:13:35picture see the birch tree right you
2:13:39know what was the sus tree was actually
2:13:41the one at the swimming area near the
2:13:43Wisconsin River where he had disposed of
2:13:46his mother's legs now that was a sus
2:13:49tree you know it wasn't really sus but
2:13:50like he there's a picture of him hanging
2:13:52on this tree from the past and he liked
2:13:54to go swimming there in that picture
2:13:56it's pretty Eerie because he's hanging
2:13:58on the tree and he's holding a knife so
2:14:00now in hindsight again that's just like
2:14:01a creepy picture but you know he just
2:14:05gives away these little these little
2:14:06details that are interesting for the
2:14:09case but he's making as if no that tree
2:14:11by the cabin was sus no it was that tree
2:14:14that's going to catch exactly where you
2:14:17really
2:14:18were because your girlfriend also took a
2:14:21screenshot of the Snapchat to show that
2:14:23you were there which is why they found
2:14:25his mother's legs if it wasn't for cat
2:14:27sharing that screenshot they wouldn't
2:14:29have found well maybe eventually maybe
2:14:31someone would have come across human
2:14:33remains or you know the the bones or
2:14:35whatever shame but because of cat they
2:14:38found his mother's
2:14:40remains it's just amazing how he's like
2:14:42which day he's going with like as again

2:14:49there on Thursday July 8th but he still

2:15:45name and then col those are the details

2:15:49need where missing parents she was also
2:15:53doing canvasing

2:19:22need you to tell me from last night
2:19:27um so watching Wheel of Fortune you're
2:19:30on the couch table downstair couch the
2:19:33back to the table downstairs and of
2:19:35tossing the the ball around for the dog
2:19:37and broke the glass firep plate okay
2:19:39they're going over the whole timeline
2:19:41again so now they're starting back at
2:19:43June 30th of 2021 which was a Wednesday
2:19:47you know when he said he was watching
2:19:49Family Feud with his dad all of that
2:19:51that he just went over okay so Wednesday
2:19:53the day before the murders they starting
2:19:55there um your foot gets hurt dad gets
2:19:59mad right yeah mom left for work in the
2:20:03morning comes home later on um dog was
2:20:07fine not injured at all was it the dog
2:20:09or the ball that crashed into the glass
2:20:12both the ball bounced it but the dog hit
2:20:14it with the shoulder that's how it broke
2:20:16it would the ball would have done it

2:21:40where did you get that from can't let me

2:21:46returned it to cat yeah

2:22:05else hydrogen peroxide for the the tiles
2:22:10and the hard
2:22:14floors um just the big Globs needed a

2:22:20peroxide do that seem to help get rid of

2:22:23blood well it hurt my foot that stuff um
2:22:28but it didn't really helped okay it kind
2:22:30of just made a mess and when you say
2:22:32only on tiles I'm trying to remember
2:22:34your house I couldn't do carpet with it
2:22:36it would ruin the carpet right it would
2:22:38I think so um tiles are we talking
2:22:42kitchen cuz downstairs is just like some
2:22:44well when I had some blood on the
2:22:45basement I used the
2:22:48peroxide okay basement floor tiles in
2:22:51the kitchen yeah okay yeah I peroxided
2:22:55there wasn't as much like there weren't
2:22:58like this size pools in the kitchen okay
2:23:00I was pinching it pretty dang hard but
2:23:03which was also cutting deeper cuz I had
2:23:05another might still have another piece
2:23:07of glass is that the biggest pool that
2:23:10you saw was something this was
2:23:11downstairs this was kind of on the
2:23:16Stone close to the glass and then there
2:23:18was one right at the space kind of where
2:23:21the chairs I
2:23:23put like a
2:23:25good like 2 3 in diameter 2 3 in
2:23:30diameter okay
2:23:33um more than
2:23:45that did you do anything to so I wrote
2:23:48down on Tuesday that you tried getting
2:23:50the glass cleaned up in the basement um
2:23:52toss it in the glass or glass in
2:23:54recycling did you clean up it all when
2:23:56it actually happened no my dad was
2:23:59Furious um so he he did stuff to clean
2:24:03it yeah I don't know what he
2:24:08did but I he sent me to my room upstairs
2:24:12and he did whatever he did but it's
2:24:14still was on the floor after he was done

2:24:21did your dad get injured at all when the
2:24:23glass broke did he step on any he sent
2:24:25me up but
2:24:27I don't doubt it when he gets mad he's

2:27:05some everywhere my car trash in my my
2:27:13trash um they ended up in the car trash
2:27:17there's a bag in the car that I carried
2:27:19around it's a car trash okay it's like a
2:27:21gallon bag okay that's more portable
2:27:24than the garbage
2:27:26can so yeah bloody rag after bloody rag
2:27:30just trying to get it all up and mhm I

2:27:37feel sick so it couldn't have been that

2:27:53scratches his psoriasis till he like

2:27:59describe so if they for any reason find
2:28:03his mom or dad's blood in the home he
2:28:07Chandler's story is that it's because
2:28:09his dad scratches his psoriasis

2:28:21run down your leg like um like cover
2:28:25your leg I suppose like he has it on his
2:28:28knee so when he does this it just
2:28:32like drips
2:28:35down I ask him to stop but he doesn't do
2:28:37it when he's stressed out he just kind
2:28:40of like it's his tick yeah probably
2:28:43itches does he um like does it enough to
2:28:46get on the floor does it leave oh yeah
2:28:49yeah like how much like before we were
2:28:51talking the water bottle lid and the
2:28:52yeti lid is there I mean like are we
2:28:54talking puddles like that or just dings
2:28:57or it could be enough okay but I'm
2:29:00thinking Yeti L if he's there and I
2:29:03don't catch him soon enough oh jeez my

2:29:07blood D just from her bloody noses she
2:29:11gets sometimes when she wakes up that's
2:29:13why we've been doing the dehumidify or
2:29:17humidifier and dehumidifiers yeah
2:29:21humidifiers and dehumidifiers okay at
2:29:24the same time because you know these
2:29:28Mom's blood would be explained by those
2:29:30nose bleeds that she had the dad
2:29:32scratching psoriasis not actually um
2:29:34that he murdered and dismembered his
2:29:36parents in that home no no
2:29:39psoriasis nose bleeds or the ouie on his
2:29:43toe yeah probably downstairs you get
2:29:47those we we have to do multiple of them
2:29:49but she can't be in the living room too
2:29:51long cuz that's a dehumidifier and if
2:29:53she does her nose gets
2:29:57bad not like a regular one she gets it
2:30:02bad
2:30:03um but she either goes the kitchen to
2:30:06fix it her vanity or the
2:30:12bathroom um when she has bloody noses
2:30:14are we talking it's just spraying around
2:30:17is it just dripping well it's not
2:30:18squirting but it's
2:30:20and she doesn't notice it she can't feel
2:30:23it anymore
2:30:25okay um scary is there any reason to
2:30:29believe that in either one of their
2:30:31vehicles there would be any of their
2:30:35blood their vehicles yeah or anybody's
2:30:39vehicle I say that no maybe car
2:30:42trash mom's car trash would definitely
2:30:45the past few days my dad's car trash
2:30:51why would they have blood in their car
2:30:55trashes well my mom does the bloody
2:30:57noses with the air conditioning so okay
2:31:00in the when we have air conditioning my
2:31:02mom won't will have to use
2:31:05um uh bring towels and stuff because in
2:31:09the hot days you can't have your windows
2:31:10open you'll you won't drive well so air
2:31:13conditioning my mom will have nose
2:31:17beds um my dad hasn't had them
2:31:21as much as she does but he gets them
2:31:23okay um his are worse than my
2:31:28M's does you ever get him in the house
2:31:30then or um mostly just with air
2:31:33conditioning but sometimes sometimes
2:31:36with a
2:31:37dehumidifier
2:31:39okay me personally just in air
2:31:41conditioning mhm I get them but I'm not
2:31:45as bad as my parents I it's um not bad
2:31:51okay all
2:32:00right okay now call him out on his
2:32:08BS just so that you know what's still
2:32:10coming up and we've got about 3 hours
2:32:12worth of trial footage today day four
2:32:14was a bit of a shorter trial day you
2:32:16know when the trial happened which was
2:32:17in January of 2022 and and so uh okay
2:32:21there's 3 hours of trial footage and we
2:32:22are at 207 so call it 50 minutes because
2:32:27sometimes I talk maybe a little more
2:32:28call it an hour left okay that's and
2:32:31what's happening is the rest of this
2:32:33police interrogation is going to get
2:32:35arrested and then we'll see some more
2:32:36witnesses I think there's two or three
2:32:38Witnesses after this police interview is
2:32:41completed so that's what's still coming

2:37:06the water didn't come to the toilet MH
2:37:08um so you need a new thing to stop
2:37:11whatever the problem was I think leaking
2:37:14I don't know I didn't hear everything
2:37:17from it I'm sure how did he find out

2:37:24plumbing issue up there well he went up
2:37:26there just to go see the cabin oh so
2:37:28when he went up a couple weeks ago he

2:51:41that day in the course of the
2:51:42investigation yes showing exhibits 500
2:51:44and 501 what are
2:51:46those those appear to be images of the
2:51:49injury on Chandler's foot okay I'd move
2:51:52500 and 501 in evidence I have a

2:51:58through this witness for the photos um

2:52:04photographs uh that would be Deputy Jim
2:52:07plenty and uh you've reviewed these
2:52:09photographs in the course of this

2:52:13photographs taken uh start with
2:52:15overviews and move down to specific
2:52:17areas of Mr halderson body correct okay
2:52:20uh so while in these photographs you
2:52:21can't see Mr halderson uh in the
2:52:23overview ones and as they move closer
2:52:25you can identify the person yes and who
2:52:27is the person being photographed
2:52:28Chandler

2:54:28the country do you live St George Utah
2:54:30and do you ever have occasion to visit
2:54:32uh this area of the country uh the first
2:54:34time I ever did was this summer and uh
2:54:37what brought you uh over to this area my
2:54:39daughter and her fiance live here and uh
2:54:41whereabouts do they live in sck City
2:54:44okay and do they live in the in the city
2:54:45or out in a rural area it's rural they
2:54:48kind of live in a weird spot on the edge
2:54:50of Three Counties sure but I'd call it
2:54:53rural definitely for me it's rural okay
2:54:55and uh is there any public land near
2:54:58where they live yes and whereabouts is
2:55:00that in relation to their property um I
2:55:03they live two houses away from the river
2:55:06well I guess there's Woods before you
2:55:08get to the river and and across the
2:55:10street is a large open lot that it's not
2:55:13public land but at the time I first got
2:55:14here I thought it was it all looks like
2:55:16public land to me it's all open sure uh
2:55:19and were you visiting this summer uh
2:55:20around July 3rd yes and in in that day
2:55:23on July 3rd uh in the morning between 8
2:55:259 a.m. um were you outside yes and what
2:55:29were you doing outside that day uh
2:55:31playing with my granddaughter I I'm
2:55:33raising my granddaughter and she and I
2:55:35were running around out in the front
2:55:36yard well actually she was running um
2:55:39and I we were waiting for my daughter to
2:55:40come because we were going to go to the
2:55:42park okay and did you see anything that
2:55:44day that ultimately maybe you were asked
2:55:46about from the police in this
2:55:47investigation yes what did you see I saw
2:55:51a man who was um walking away from some
2:55:54cars parked at the end of the street at
2:55:56the time I didn't know the river was
2:55:58there um so he was parked facing the
2:56:00river in the woods and he walked away
2:56:02from it and then he walked back to his
2:56:05car and mind you I was watching my
2:56:08granddaughter I noticed him but I was
2:56:09watching her and then he I thought he
2:56:11was walking back to meet someone and
2:56:14then he didn't and uh he looked across
2:56:17the street from my daughter where
2:56:19there's a big open lot which at the time
2:56:21I thought maybe he was looking for a
2:56:22hiking trail um and then he I didn't see
2:56:27where he went after he went back to his
2:56:28car I assume now the only place he could
2:56:30have gone would have been into the woods
2:56:32okay and uh what stuck out to you why
2:56:35did you remember this or was there
2:56:36anything odd that caused you to remember
2:56:37this actually no at the time I didn't
2:56:40think it was odd I just thought it was a
2:56:41guy who was going hiking and when I met
2:56:44my daughter later it was my very first
2:56:45day in Wisconsin I said is there there
2:56:48hiking trails around your house it
2:56:49looked like there was a guy there going
2:56:51hiking and she says no people don't go
2:56:53hiking there they go fishing usually
2:56:54down by the river and so I I at the time
2:56:57I didn't even think it was odd I was
2:56:59thought maybe there were some good
2:57:00hiking trails sure now why are they
2:57:03speaking to this witness about what she
2:57:05saw so she obviously saw
2:57:08Chandler near the Wisconsin River I'll
2:57:11show you on the map just now that's a
2:57:13South African saying hey just now that
2:57:15means soon okay they just they talking a
2:57:18little bit and then I'll show you on the
2:57:19map where that was and the reason it's
2:57:20important is also cuz that's where cat
2:57:23had seen the Chanel was on Snapchat and
2:57:25it was an area where he liked to go
2:57:27swimming and that's where they
2:57:28eventually found Christa's uh partial
2:57:31remains do you know what the roads are
2:57:33around there even called yes because I
2:57:35ended up staying for two months once I
2:57:37got here sure about what what are the
2:57:39road names that are around that area um
2:57:41my daughter lives on the corner of I
2:57:43think it's Highway 188 and it's called
2:57:45Jensen road but it's also called Old
2:57:47Highway 6 depending on which county
2:57:49you're in okay and then it's right the
2:57:52next street over is the the new highway
2:57:5460 I assume it's new got it this man
2:57:56that you saw um what if you give us a
2:57:58general physical description of him he
2:58:00was about somewhere in his early to mid
2:58:0320s to maybe early 30s um not real tall
2:58:07maybe 510 is I'd say
2:58:11um either a dark hair or a dark hat I'm
2:58:14not 100% sure and he was wearing a
2:58:17backpack
2:58:18pack and some pants I can't remember if
2:58:21they were jeans or khakis but it looked
2:58:23like he was going hiking you catch a and
2:58:25were you able to observe what his race
2:58:26was he was white okay um well I assume
2:58:30he was white based on his skin
2:58:32color
2:58:34okay one
2:58:40second you mentioned he was coming from
2:58:43some cars do you know what car he was
2:58:45coming from or what the cars were um I
2:58:47know there were two or three cars parked
2:58:49there cuz they hadn't been when I
2:58:51arrived the night before one of them was
2:58:53a Subaru I know that because I had just
2:58:55sold my Subaru and I I don't know for
2:58:58and one of them was dark and I don't
2:59:00know for sure which car he was coming
2:59:03from okay or two he was just around them

2:59:15parked in that area correct I I wouldn't
2:59:18know that was my very first day there
2:59:20you spent two months there afterwards
2:59:22there were there were days when there

2:59:26not unusual that there were cars parked
2:59:28there based on what my what I saw this
2:59:30summer I would say so say It's Not

3:00:33took place this Oak Spring circle is uh
3:00:37where
3:00:38Chandlers well the holders Home was
3:00:41where the crime happened double homicide
3:00:43and
3:00:44dismemberment and then it so it was look
3:00:46here it says winds
3:00:48Windsor
3:00:49Wisconsin okay and then um in Cottage
3:00:54Grove in this area is what they showed
3:00:56us earlier as well on the map this was
3:01:00Chandler's girlfriend's mother's
3:01:02fiance's property Cris theze property um
3:01:06and so they showed us the pool that he s
3:01:08i me this is that Barn where he says he
3:01:10had that little you know breakdown and
3:01:13says that they were just watching him
3:01:15while he's having this breakdown it's
3:01:17where this is where he he had the murder
3:01:18weapon in the barn at cr's house and he
3:01:23had walked off South into the woods to
3:01:26hide a bin a tarp and his father's torso
3:01:30at the front of the property I think it
3:01:32was outside here where there were bins
3:01:35and he had put a Target bag with bloody
3:01:38rags in it so that was that property so
3:01:41at that point on the you know we just
3:01:43saw the police interview on that same
3:01:45day the reason that like we know we know
3:01:47things okay because they had found a
3:01:48torso here where CH and do had said
3:01:52Chandler was walking around and being
3:01:54kind of sus really they couldn't figure
3:01:56out like is he on drugs or what is he
3:01:57doing I don't know what's happening with
3:01:58him then he got in the pool and was
3:02:00washing himself off which in hindsight
3:02:02that must be absolutely horrifying to
3:02:04think about but they were like where is
3:02:06Christa so they found partial remains of
3:02:09Bart but where where was Christa and her
3:02:12her partial remains which unfortunately
3:02:14were only
3:02:15legs were found on
3:02:18July 14th of 2021 and it was in this
3:02:21area where remember cat his girlfriend
3:02:24at the time had taken a screenshot
3:02:26because Chandler had apparently cheated
3:02:28on her before so she was kind of you
3:02:31know keeping a couple of tabs on him
3:02:33because she didn't really trust him can
3:02:35you imagine now trust issues so this was
3:02:38the swimming area where he really likeed
3:02:40to go they talked about swimming out to
3:02:42this little sand Bank as well this is
3:02:43the Wisconsin River and the closest
3:02:46point I could find is called
3:02:48the Ruth Culver Community Library okay
3:02:52it's somewhere around there so around
3:02:54here is where that witness would then
3:02:55have seen a guy and a sub Subaru and
3:03:00just like looking for a hiking trail or
3:03:02looking a little bit out of place now
3:03:05that didn't sound like obviously Beyond
3:03:06a reasonable doubt that it was Chandler
3:03:08halderson but if you add the Subaru the
3:03:11date which matches the Snapchat you know
3:03:14and what he was wearing and all of that
3:03:16it could very much have been OB viously
3:03:18chander halderson because they found his
3:03:20mother's partial remains in this area
3:03:23well this like wooded area in this
3:03:25wooded area uh on July 14th and again
3:03:29it's only because of his girlfriend the
3:03:31times Snapchat otherwise they I don't
3:03:33know if they would have really gone to
3:03:34look in that area or even found that
3:03:36witness to to question okay so that's
3:03:39the map time so let's go back to our
3:03:41trial day
3:03:43here good
3:03:46afternoon I think you've testified
3:03:48previously that you are one of the two
3:03:50uh lead case detectives along with
3:03:52Detective Sims who's sitting with us at
3:03:54Council table correct correct uh and as
3:03:57part of uh being a lead case detective
3:03:59in this case um you've been aware of uh
3:04:03various locations that have been
3:04:04discussed in this case where remains
3:04:07have been found
3:04:10yes I have
3:04:16computer yesterday the jury heard from
3:04:18cat um who displayed a map a screenshot
3:04:21of a Snapchat map uh to everyone when
3:04:24you saw that were you aware of where
3:04:26that location was yes I was um and just
3:04:29now uh M
3:04:31Miss does does sto I think I got it
3:04:34right the court reporter noded uh when
3:04:36she testified are you aware of that
3:04:38location that she's describing I am are
3:04:40you very familiar with that area I am
3:04:42how so I used to work Patrol for the
3:04:45Sheriff's Office and that was one of my
3:04:47areas
3:04:48responsibility uh so I would frequently
3:04:51be in that area uh the town of rockbury
3:04:53it was part of my beat um I would you
3:04:57know Patrol Highway 188 uh Jensen Road
3:05:00or Old Highway 60 as some would call it
3:05:03is one of the most Northwestern most
3:05:05parts of the county um once you were to
3:05:08drive past that on 188 you would leave
3:05:09our County so it was kind of a common
3:05:11turnaround if you're were in that area
3:05:13sure and that location that uh cat had
3:05:16the map of you're aware Drone footage
3:05:18was later Taken of that area yes and is
3:05:20that exhibit
3:05:2155 yes it is the city we see across the
3:05:25river on the top right corner of exhibit
3:05:2755 what city is that uh Prairie duac is
3:05:30across the
3:05:31river and I'm showing you what's been
3:05:33marked in this case is exhibit number
3:05:36121 122 are those aerial photographs of
3:05:39this
3:05:40area yes and showing you uh what's been
3:05:44marked as exhibit number 123 and 124
3:05:47what are these uh those are pictures of
3:05:49Chandler helders in the course of your
3:05:52investigation were uh Witnesses who had
3:05:55previously been in contact with Mr
3:05:56halderson uh talk to about any
3:05:58photographs they might have of him yes
3:06:01and did a witness provide some
3:06:03photographs of him um shirtless kind of
3:06:06by a tree yes two photos and did that
3:06:09witness take those photographs or did
3:06:10she just have them because Mr halderson
3:06:12gave them to her she just had those
3:06:14photos okay I'll move one
3:06:18202 120 oh excuse me 121 122 123 and 124
3:06:24any objection none they are received

3:06:36left and just briefly this is 532 that
3:06:39we looked at yesterday the map that uh
3:06:41cat was able to provide the law
3:06:44enforcement
3:06:46yes and then 121 what are we looking at
3:06:49there uh this is going to be a drone
3:06:52photograph of the highway 60 Bridge
3:06:55Jensen Road or Old Highway 60 would be
3:06:58directly beneath the Drone here so this
3:07:02is a picture facing
3:07:04north okay 122 what are we looking at
3:07:07there um similar it's the Drone
3:07:10photograph taken uh Jensen Road would be
3:07:13directly beneath or approximately
3:07:16directly beneath the Drone we're facing
3:07:19to the West uh this is going to be
3:07:21Prairie Du sack in the background
3:07:24okay uh Wisconsin River obviously in the
3:07:27photograph also okay 123 uh is this one
3:07:30of those photographs of Mr halderson
3:07:32that you were able to obtain from
3:07:33someone yes and um I guess I'll ask are
3:07:36you are you knowledgeable of who the
3:07:38photographer was I am
3:07:41not uh you yourself had had
3:07:44opportunities to see Mr halderson in
3:07:45person correct correct including in that
3:07:48several hourong interview we just
3:07:49watched yes and does that appear to you
3:07:51to be Chandler halderson
3:07:54definitely and then 124 um just a
3:07:57different type of picture yes
3:08:05okay you're aware ultimately that some
3:08:09items were discovered on that public
3:08:10land that's right there I am aware um
3:08:13what town is that in the town of Roxbury
3:08:16no it's the town of Rox are a town that
3:08:18has Police Station Post Office things
3:08:20like that it does not it's a very remote
3:08:23area uh is that location in Dane County
3:08:26Wisconsin yes it is and is in fact the
3:08:28location that you've seen on Drone
3:08:30footage and and you you are aware of in
3:08:32this investigation where any human
3:08:33remains were found is that location in D
3:08:35County Wisconsin yes it
3:08:44is nothing further at this time Crossing
3:08:48examination uh detective those
3:08:50photographs of Mr halderson came from an
3:08:53ex-girlfriend correct who contacted your
3:08:57agency I forget how contact was made
3:09:00whether she contacted us or we contacted
3:09:02her I don't recall so part of the
3:09:05investigation was certainly contacting
3:09:07people who know or knew of
3:09:10Mr correct yes nothing else thank you

3:09:33the Wisconsin Department of Natural
3:09:36Resources as a conservation Warden as a
3:09:38conservation Warden and is that a sworn
3:09:40member of law enforcement yes I'm going
3:09:42to ask you to pull that mic just a
3:09:44little bit
3:09:45closer better fans yes
3:09:49okay um and in mid July July 14th to be
3:09:54exact of 2021 were you working in Your
3:09:57Capacity as a DNR Warden
3:10:00yes and on that day what was your
3:10:02assigned tasks or duties to help out the
3:10:05Daye County Sheriff's Office with
3:10:07searching a piece of state property for
3:10:08any evidence associated with the with
3:10:10the holders in case okay um and how did
3:10:14that search go about how many co-workers
3:10:16were with you you and what was the plan
3:10:19um as far as how many people were there
3:10:21I don't remember um there were three
3:10:23other wardens that were there and the
3:10:25plan was just to divide it up into three
3:10:27different Parcels essentially and search
3:10:29those thoroughly and I searched the
3:10:31southernmost area and how do you search
3:10:34those areas areas thoroughly by walking
3:10:37through them and trying to stay as close
3:10:39as possible to each other to make sure
3:10:40that you not missing anything that might
3:10:42be between each other okay um just
3:10:48what is that area how would you describe
3:10:50it to somebody who had never been there
3:10:52yeah it's part of the lower Wisconsin
3:10:53Riverway so it's just Wildlife Area a
3:10:55lot of trees some open grassland type of
3:10:58stuff and it leads up to the river um
3:11:00pretty thick with weeds that time of
3:11:02year you know in July um a lot of smart
3:11:05weed pretty thick area overall is it
3:11:08open to the public private or something
3:11:10else it's public land and is open to the
3:11:12public okay um do PE what sort of
3:11:18things do people use that land for if
3:11:20they visit it if you know um a lot of
3:11:23times it's hiking or going over to the
3:11:25river to go fishing you know maybe even
3:11:27sightseing seeing bald eagles and so on
3:11:29um and then you know any other use
3:11:31somebody could think of for it I guess
3:11:33okay and then the winter there's
3:11:35snowmobile trails in that area yep
3:11:37there's a snowmobile trail that runs
3:11:39through it okay and what town is it
3:11:41located near um well it's located I
3:11:45guess in the town of Roxberry for the
3:11:46most part I mean there's a lot of
3:11:48different sections of it but the biggest
3:11:49city would be Sock City or Prairie to
3:11:54saac okay and the search took place on
3:11:57July 14th
3:11:59yes
3:12:01um I'm going to have you look over
3:12:04there's a large photograph there is that
3:12:07part of the area that you
3:12:10searched yes so we're going to do this a
3:12:13little bit differently
3:12:15today um
3:12:19in order for the jury to see more detail
3:12:21on the photos we're actually going to
3:12:23hand everyone out a copy I will go over
3:12:27the exhibits though first and I'm going
3:12:28to present one of these pamphlets to you
3:12:31to make sure that the exhibits are what
3:12:33is in this booklet okay is that fair
3:12:40yes um I'm going to present you with
3:12:42exhibits 125 through 131
3:12:47just as a group in one sentence not
3:12:49individually how would you describe
3:12:52exhibits 125 through
3:12:56131 you can look through them that's
3:12:58perfectly fine so you want me just
3:13:00describe it as a group as to just what
3:13:03are those photos of this is just a
3:13:05representation of the area that we
3:13:07searched as well as what we found okay
3:13:10and that on the July 14th 2021 search
3:13:14correct um and do those appear to be
3:13:16true and accurate photos of that what
3:13:19you saw that day yes okay at this time I
3:13:22would move
3:13:24exhibit

3:14:32folks we are doing this or I should say
3:14:34the state is doing this in a slightly
3:14:35different procedure than other exhibits
3:14:38and obviously um as you may gather
3:14:42um similarly uh to the presentation
3:14:45yesterday I think the state in intends
3:14:47to demonstrate a
3:14:49stepbystep look of the discovery um
3:14:53culminating in what was discovered which
3:14:54of course the perimeter lights are
3:14:56definitely on okay we have about 23
3:14:59minutes left of trial 44 today becomes
3:15:02the most or more sensitive or disturbing
3:15:05of the photos um you'll have these in
3:15:07front of you instead of on the screen um
3:15:09the same admonition that I gave
3:15:11yesterday applies today you have to be
3:15:13able to have say said you saw it but um
3:15:16whether you then Look Away close the
3:15:19booklet look at the picture examine
3:15:21that's solely up to your discretion as a
3:15:23juror I will only say this don't turn
3:15:25ahead and if you are going to engage in
3:15:28a closing of the booklet and then
3:15:30reopening to the next page just make
3:15:32sure your hand stays in the proper place
3:15:34so that you know that I have to turn one
3:15:36more page and that you're not stumbling
3:15:38or going ahead because I believe the
3:15:40state does want to present these to you
3:15:42in the order prepared in the booklet you
3:15:44won't be keeping the booklets they'll be
3:15:46returned when we're finished with this
3:15:47exhibit but um we're um anticipating
3:15:51that this is um an alternate method of
3:15:53showing things to you that uh um we're
3:15:56going to attempt at this time go right
3:15:57ahead yes should allow for more detail
3:16:00observation um the exhibit number is in
3:16:02the lower right hand corner if you would
3:16:05take one and pass them on go right ahead
3:16:08all right um Warden I would ask that you
3:16:11look at exhibit 125 and could you
3:16:14explain to the jury what picture 125 is
3:16:19of uh the picture 125 is an aerial photo
3:16:22of on the center of it you can see where
3:16:25the body parts are located that um
3:16:27myself and Kevin guber um who are part
3:16:31of the search party what we
3:16:32located the larger group of it there's
3:16:35still a piece of another piece of human
3:16:38remains that were found that would be if
3:16:40you're looking at the picture you if you
3:16:42look above it you see a gap it would be
3:16:44to the right of that somewhere in that
3:16:46area
3:16:49but this is the largest grouping that
3:16:51red spot that you
3:16:52see okay um and at this point what did
3:16:57you think that red area was did you know
3:17:00when you first began yes when I
3:17:02approached it I saw toes and a foot and
3:17:05part of a leg and so on so I knew I had
3:17:06found human remains at that point okay
3:17:10uh let's turn the page to exhibit
3:17:14126 could you please describe for the
3:17:17jury what what 126
3:17:20displays same thing as I had described
3:17:24before so again the search area correct
3:17:27the search area what we had located and
3:17:30maybe a little bit of better definition
3:17:33a different angle for sure
3:17:36um and this obviously just a little bit
3:17:38shortly after we had located the parts
3:17:42okay and let's flip the page to page 127
3:17:49What area in exhibit 127 is the remains
3:17:53or how would you describe it um where
3:17:55you see the person wearing blue at the
3:17:58bottom of the photograph kind of towards
3:18:00the center of it if you go up on the
3:18:02page you see a a green tree and then
3:18:05above that you see I'd say it looks red
3:18:08in the photograph um you you can see a
3:18:11outline you can see a human leg in there
3:18:14okay and let's flip to page
3:18:18128 imagine finding that evidence that
3:18:21is so horrifying and they never found
3:18:24the rest of Christa halderson only her
3:18:27full right leg and part of her left leg
3:18:32how would you describe exhibit
3:18:34128 what I had found for human remains
3:18:37okay just a closer up view correct um
3:18:41and at this point did you think it was
3:18:42one leg two legs or something else I
3:18:45didn't stick around long enough have to
3:18:47figure it out sure and why was that cuz
3:18:49it's gross fair enough um you called the
3:18:53medical exam correct I notified the
3:18:56Sheriff's Office what we what I had
3:18:58located and it's theirs to take over
3:19:00from that point
3:19:03sure um exhibit 129 is that just a
3:19:08further zoomed in view
3:19:13correct turning to exhibit 130
3:19:18is that the general area of the
3:19:21location yeah um it looks to be a lot of
3:19:25the Riverway down there looks very
3:19:26similar to that but you can see kind of
3:19:29out in the Waterway you can see that
3:19:31piece of sand out there uh that's very
3:19:33consistent with that portion of the
3:19:35Riverway there's an island out there all
3:19:38right um and then flipping finally to
3:19:42exhibit
3:19:44131 we have a picture of a singular tree
3:19:48mhmm um now in the background of exhibit
3:19:51131 um there's a white tent what is the
3:19:56white tent the white tent is where the
3:19:57human remains were located okay um and
3:20:01now I'm going
3:20:03to at some point during this
3:20:06investigation where you showed pictures
3:20:07of a young man hanging from a tree I I
3:20:11at least remember him being next to the
3:20:13tree I think with his foot up next to it
3:20:15yes okay fair enough I'm going to show
3:20:17you what we've previously seen as
3:20:20exhibits 123 and
3:20:25124 are one or both of those the
3:20:28pictures that you were shown in the
3:20:30course of this investigation of this
3:20:31tree uh picture 123 is yes I do not
3:20:34recall 124 okay fair enough so picture
3:20:38123 the one leg up M um and in looking
3:20:43around that area did you recognize this
3:20:46location
3:20:48yeah it appeared to be closer to the
3:20:49River from where we had been located at
3:20:53um where we had found the human
3:20:56remains okay and you found a tree that
3:20:58at least looked consistent with the tree
3:21:00pictured in exhibit 123 yes I was a
3:21:03forestry major at w Stevens Point so
3:21:05I've been around trees a little bit and
3:21:07I was able to look at the photograph and
3:21:09figure out it was a elm tree or at least
3:21:11appeared to be an elm tree and then
3:21:12there's a a DOT or a knob on the bottom
3:21:15of the tree that's very consistent with
3:21:17the photograph that you just showed me
3:21:19there okay Warden um I just have a one
3:21:24or two basic questions about oh well
3:21:28that white tent area the place where the
3:21:30human remains were found how far away is
3:21:32it from that
3:21:35tree roughly roughly I'd say
3:21:38approximately 100 maybe 120 yards okay
3:21:43does the DNR have a dive team no
3:21:47um does the DNR ever have civilians
3:21:50participate in searches in the water and
3:21:53in a diving
3:21:54capacity I don't know
3:21:59okay uh no further questions cross
3:22:03examinations good afternoon
3:22:06Warden I heard you use the word
3:22:09consistent when describing the tree in
3:22:12the photograph with the man and the tree
3:22:14that you found on the banks of of the
3:22:16Wisconsin River is that right yes so
3:22:20it's fair to assume that your testimony
3:22:22isn't that it is absolutely the same
3:22:25tree your testimony is that it's
3:22:28consistent it looks to be the same Tree
3:22:30to me but
3:22:32you where does that line of questioning
3:22:34go maybe they're just showing you see
3:22:35we're working hard over here see that
3:22:38Chann because I mean there's a photo of
3:22:41him at that tree which is it's very
3:22:43unique looking and then 100 yards or 91
3:22:47M away are Christa's partial remains so
3:22:52I think it's the same tree yeah there's
3:22:54the word consistent correct if that's
3:22:57what you're saying then I probably did
3:22:59yes you don't know for certain that
3:23:01that's the same tree I can't say for
3:23:03certain that it's the same tree but it
3:23:04looks to me like it is the same
3:23:06tree now you can you can say can you say
3:23:10that though that photograph was taken
3:23:12very close in time to when you saw the
3:23:15tree
3:23:17which photograph are you talking about
3:23:18the photograph of the young man that you
3:23:20compared to the trees in the area I
3:23:23don't know when that photograph was
3:23:24taken I think I had been told maybe it
3:23:27was like a year before um but I don't
3:23:30recall for sure so your information as
3:23:33to when that photograph was taken comes
3:23:36from what you were told not in your tree
3:23:38analysis skills
3:23:40correct can you repeat that question
3:23:42please sure the tree that you found
3:23:45that's cons consistent to the tree in
3:23:47the
3:23:51photograph you don't know whether that
3:23:54photograph was taken the same year as
3:23:56you found that tree or a different year
3:23:58that you found the tree based on what
3:24:00you were able to observe on the tree
3:24:02that you found correct correct they're
3:24:05trees repeat it again exactly like that
3:24:08pop quiz everyone repeat that question
3:24:11verbatim that'll be difficult so that
3:24:14tree that you found that wouldn't be in
3:24:16the same time of year as the tree that
3:24:18you found that you think is consistent
3:24:19with the tree that you saw in that
3:24:21photograph is it now like what don't
3:24:23have dates on them I would not be able
3:24:25to see exactly when the picture was to
3:24:28everything else so yeah no thank you any

3:25:07paramedic and I work part-time for the
3:25:10Dan Cony Sheriff's Office tactical
3:25:12response team as a medic for them okay
3:25:15and were you working in Your Capacity as
3:25:18part of the tactical response team as a
3:25:20medic on July 14th of
3:25:232021 yes I believe that's the date okay
3:25:28and on that day did you participate in a
3:25:30search near the Rocksberry area yes um
3:25:34how would you describe that search how
3:25:36many co-workers were out there and what
3:25:38were you guys tasked with um so the
3:25:41entire team was tasked that day with uh
3:25:43a a search of that wooded area
3:25:46um there's roughly 30 people on our team
3:25:48with the other Medics and the um rest of
3:25:53the sheriff's deputies and that morning
3:25:55there were some additional Personnel too
3:25:58I don't know if there were other
3:25:59sheriff's deputies from other counties
3:26:01but there was some dear wardens there as
3:26:03well um to help with that search and I
3:26:07mean how did this search occur did you
3:26:09guys walk arm in arm spread out
3:26:11something different so in the morning we
3:26:14the everybody was involved that day kind
3:26:15of ga GED in that area and then we were
3:26:18briefed on what we were going to be
3:26:19doing that day and they kind of
3:26:21instructed us to break down into some
3:26:23smaller groups or teams and then um you
3:26:26know methodically search this wooded
3:26:28area that they um wanted us to look for
3:26:31any sort of evidence that could pertain
3:26:33to this case and you described it as a
3:26:36wooded area um so trees was the grass
3:26:40short high something else yeah there's
3:26:42lots of trees it's right off of the
3:26:43Wisconsin River so there's plenty of
3:26:45water around to little pockets of ponds
3:26:48and stuff like that um you know I don't
3:26:51think the grass was really too long that
3:26:52day um but plenty wooded yes I'm about
3:26:57to approach you and I'm going to show
3:26:58you exhibits 132 through
3:27:05138 because these are kind of detailed
3:27:08photos we're going to end up giving the
3:27:09jury these little booklets so yeah defle
3:27:12that otherwise they just wait and wait
3:27:13and wait and wait for the jury to look
3:27:15through the booklets right so for those
3:27:17of you asking if Mitch halderson will
3:27:18testify he testified on day one it's
3:27:21time stamped at 3 hours 17 minutes and

3:29:43where we initially found the stuff in

3:29:50what you found smell it or something
3:29:52else um my first indication in the area
3:29:55was the smell okay let's turn to exhibit

3:30:06134 uh this is just a kind of a
3:30:08different view of uh there was almost a
3:30:11little separation between the two
3:30:13different um
3:30:17uh places where we found the uh stuff

3:30:46kind of the second items that we found
3:30:49that day searching that wooded area and
3:30:52what was the distance if any between
3:30:54exhibits between what you found in
3:30:56exhibit 135 and exhibit
3:31:00136 um a rough estimate of maybe 30
3:31:03yards
3:31:06okay all right let's turn to
3:31:10137 is that the same thing that we were
3:31:12looking at in exhibit 135 correct
3:31:18and again 138 just a different view
3:31:22correct what did you do once you had you
3:31:26and your team had found these
3:31:29parts uh so we were you know as we're
3:31:32searching the wooded areas were spread
3:31:33out to cover more ground but you know
3:31:36within sight of each other and making
3:31:38sure that we're you know doing the
3:31:39methodical search uh once we encountered
3:31:42these and decided that it was not um
3:31:46that it was maybe something of Interest
3:31:48then I immediately called our team
3:31:50commander and alerted him that there was
3:31:52something here that the detectives
3:31:54should probably come take a look at so
3:31:56then we kind of just stopped so we
3:31:57didn't disturb the area anymore and had
3:32:00more people come down to take over and
3:32:03were you part of the team that marked
3:32:05the area with flags or no um I I don't
3:32:09remember whose idea that was but there
3:32:10was kind of this path along the wooded
3:32:13area that was easier to get in and out
3:32:15of instead of walking around so we did
3:32:17kind of a couple of us put some Flags in
3:32:18to mark an area that we all came in at
3:32:21the same point and is that an attempt to
3:32:24disrupt the scene as little as possible
3:32:26that was our thoughts yeah
3:32:32okay and what how would you describe
3:32:36what you
3:32:38found uh
3:32:41initially There Was You know the smell
3:32:44of it and then as we got closer um we'll
3:32:48use
3:32:49picture uh
3:32:51137 uh that morning when we were told to
3:32:54go search we weren't given specifics as
3:32:57to what we were searching for just
3:32:58anything of interest um it being a
3:33:01wooded area it was not immediately
3:33:03apparent that that what that would have
3:33:05been um a smaller piece so uh that's
3:33:09when another member that was out
3:33:11searching kind of went closer and at
3:33:12first we couldn't quite determine what
3:33:14that piece was cuz it was separated from
3:33:16the picture
3:33:18in it was like 30 yards I said from 136
3:33:23we didn't see that first we saw first in
3:33:25the 137 so it wasn't immediately
3:33:28apparent what it was until we found the
3:33:29other piece that then that was more
3:33:32apparent as to what that would be and
3:33:34what do you believe it was was body
3:33:37parts looks like a foot and a leg
3:33:42okay no further questions cross
3:33:45examination

3:34:01correct but not the last correct okay so

3:34:06first and last name for the record and

3:34:16how are you employed employed with the D
3:34:19County Sheriff's Office as a deputy
3:34:21sheriff and were you employed as such on
3:34:24July 14th of 2021 correct and on that
3:34:28day were you assigned to a search or to
3:34:30assist with the search in the Roxberry
3:34:32area in Dame County
3:34:35correct
3:34:37and at some point um some body parts are
3:34:42found is that fair yes
3:34:46okay how would you describe what was
3:34:50found uh on this DNR property um in the
3:34:53township of Roxberry um it was
3:34:56discovered that there was um uh in one
3:34:59location uh three items that were all in
3:35:04the exact same
3:35:07location probably touching each other uh
3:35:10one appeared to be a right leg from the
3:35:13foot all the way up to near where the um
3:35:17hip socket would be on that leg um the
3:35:20other two one was a left foot uh that
3:35:25was um severed just above the ankle and
3:35:30the other item I wasn't able to identify
3:35:32what it was but later was uh identified
3:35:35as being the um upper
3:35:39thigh and were you part of the process
3:35:43of collect so I see because obviously
3:35:45there's a lot of new people here welcome

3:36:27show the trigger buddy so that's what it
3:36:30is in case you knew and you're like what
3:36:32what is she what is that okay so we've
3:36:34got wow we've only got about 3 minutes
3:36:37left of trial footage for today these
3:36:39remains that were found on that DNR land
3:36:41uh I was present uh and I had taken
3:36:43photo documentation of those it as that
3:36:46happened can you describe the process
3:36:48how were they
3:36:49collected uh the medical examiner office
3:36:52had uh completed the collection of them
3:36:55uh it was an individual from the me's
3:36:57office investigator along with uh Dr
3:37:00Regala that had done the collection uh
3:37:03the items were collected and placed into
3:37:07um a body
3:37:09bag and then
3:37:12sealed okay um and
3:37:16then somebody from your department
3:37:18remained with those remains until they
3:37:20were arrived at the me's
3:37:23office um I had stayed on scene to
3:37:26continue to document so I wasn't part of
3:37:29that but generally that's the practice
3:37:31is that somebody from your department
3:37:33maintains and goes to the me's office um
3:37:38I'm not sure if we would do that all the
3:37:40time okay all right but they it would be
3:37:43sealed and the Em's office would have uh
3:37:45custody of of remains from any type of
3:37:48scene absolutely along with the crime
3:37:50scene unit that would have gone and and
3:37:53documented the scene and you were part
3:37:55of that crime scene unit of taking
3:37:58photos in this case correct
3:38:02okay nothing further

3:38:31information or evidence submitted to you
3:38:34at this time and again it is through
3:38:36stipulation of the parties as I told you
3:38:39a day or two ago when the attorneys and
3:38:42or defendant agree to certain facts and
3:38:45stipulate to the same these are provided
3:38:47to you and you must take these as being
3:38:50true so in this case the district
3:38:52attorney and defendants attorney have
3:38:54stipulated to the
3:38:56following the human remains consisting
3:38:59of a male torso located at the early
3:39:03wine Road property on July 8th
3:39:072021 is Bart halderson the DNA sample
3:39:11taken from the Torso by the DNE County
3:39:14Medical Examiner and transported to the
3:39:16Wisconsin State Crime laboratory labeled
3:39:19as Item B is a true and accurate
3:39:22standard of Bart alderson's blood and
3:39:26DNA item three the human remains
3:39:29consisting of two female legs located on
3:39:32the town of Roxbury Wisconsin River
3:39:35property on July 14 2021 is Christa
3:39:40halderson the DNA sample taken from the
3:39:43legs by the Dayne County Medical EX
3:39:45examiner and transported to the
3:39:47Wisconsin straight crime lab labeled as
3:39:50item K1 small letter A as well as the
3:39:54toothbrush head labeled as item one
3:39:58excuse me capital letter I one are true
3:40:01and accurate standards of Christa
3:40:03alderson's
3:40:05DNA ladies and gentlemen at this point
3:40:08in time we are going to be uh adjourning
3:40:11for the
3:40:13weekend and that was it obviously gave
3:40:15them the usual um this is for day five
3:40:18okay so that's for
3:40:21tomorrow so actually let me do that
