- 0:24FAMILY, WELCOME TO DAY 324. I'm super
- 0:27super excited. I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR
- 0:29THIS DAY for a long time. Yahweh is
- 0:32finally responding to Job. Okay? Like I
- 0:36know that in an eastern worldview, the
- 0:39kayazm is the centermost point, which in
- 0:42the book of Job is chapter 28. And I
- 0:44know that that's like the key, right?
- 0:47Like the climax. But I don't care what
- 0:49NOBODY SAY. WHEN GOD STARTS talking and
- 0:52he sets the record straight. Uh these
- 0:54are some of my favorite chapters in the
- 0:56ENTIRE BIBLE. A GOD IS JUST gangster in
- 1:01how he responds to Job. But moreover,
- 1:04like what Yahweh has to say is just way
- 1:07more important than anything that Job
- 1:09has to say. Definitely what his foolish
- 1:12friends have to say. Definitely what
- 1:14Elohoo has to say. And definitely what
- 1:17the Satan character, the accuser, the
- 1:19opposer has to say, Yahweh is going to I
- 1:23mean like set the record straight. And I
- 1:26just think these couple of chapters of
- 1:29Job are epic. So Yahweh's response is
- 1:33going to get split into two speeches.
- 1:35All right, we're going to look at one of
- 1:37those speeches today and we're going to
- 1:39look at the second speech tomorrow. So I
- 1:41just want you to get pumped up. Okay,
- 1:44today and tomorrow we are looking at
- 1:46Yahweh's response to Job. Uh, obviously
- 1:51the friends are in earshot and the
- 1:53friends are going to be a part of just
- 1:55what God has to say in response to all
- 1:58of these dialogues that we have been
- 2:00reading throughout the book of Job. So,
- 2:03chapters 38 and 39 would be considered
- 2:07God's first speech. And at the end of
- 2:10God's first speech, Job is like, "I'm
- 2:12sorry, bro. My bad. Let me stop talking.
- 2:17Clearly, I don't know nothing." Okay?
- 2:20Clearly, I'm ignorant. But for God,
- 2:23ignorance and humility is not enough.
- 2:26Remember, that's just the beginning of
- 2:28wisdom. By the time we get to the end of
- 2:30chapter 39, Job is at the fear of the
- 2:34Lord. But that's just the beginning of
- 2:36wisdom. Then chapters 40, this would be
- 2:40Job's second speech that Job hears from
- 2:43Yahweh. Yahweh is going to start talking
- 2:45again. Speech number two in chapter 40.
- 2:49And we're going to get that second
- 2:50speech all through chapter 40 and 41.
- 2:53And the conclusion of the second speech
- 2:57is not ignorance. It's not the fear of
- 3:00the Lord, the awe of Yahweh, the
- 3:03acknowledgment that, hey man, you're
- 3:05big, I'm small, my bad. It's actually
- 3:08Job is going to learn something powerful
- 3:12about God. He's going to actually get
- 3:15some information. So, if there was a
- 3:18kind of trajectory here, all right, I
- 3:21want you to think about the trajectory
- 3:23from innocence to ignorance to
- 3:26information. Okay? Innocence, ignorance,
- 3:30information. Okay, for most of the book
- 3:32of Job, Job has been arguing his
- 3:35innocence. I'm innocent. I'm innocent.
- 3:37I'm innocent. And then God is going to
- 3:39speak chapters 38 and 39. And Job's
- 3:43finally going to get to a place of I'm
- 3:45ignorant. I should not have challenged
- 3:48you. Like, I mean, I am humbled. Okay,
- 3:52which the fear of the Lord is the
- 3:54beginning of wisdom. And it's gonna take
- 3:56Yahweh two chapters to get Job to a
- 4:00place of instead of fighting for my
- 4:02innocence, I really should just be
- 4:04claiming I'm ignorant, man. I don't know
- 4:06enough. I don't know anything. And then
- 4:09in chapters 40 and 41, Yahweh is
- 4:12actually going to reveal some
- 4:13information to Job so that he won't just
- 4:16be at the beginning of wisdom, but that
- 4:18he can actually be on the path of wisdom
- 4:20beginning to know the Lord. Okay? So, I
- 4:23just want to give that to you as a mind
- 4:24map. All right, I typically say this way
- 4:26sooner in the episode, but I'm pumped
- 4:29today. And uh if you didn't read
- 4:30chapters 38 and 39, I mean, you are
- 4:33literally missing out. This is like some
- 4:35of the best content, like some of the
- 4:37best stuff God says in the entire Bible.
- 4:40PRETTY BALLER. ALL RIGHT, if you have
- 4:43not done the reading for the day, stop
- 4:45the video, pause the audio, GET OUT OF
- 4:47HERE, GO GET THE reading done. It's
- 4:50beautiful. Not only is it poetic, it is
- 4:53challenging. It's all kinds of stuff. I
- 4:56mean, golly peak like Bible. Okay, this
- 5:00is chef's kiss. Job 38 and39. All right.
- 5:04Finally, God is going to talk. And I
- 5:07mean, he's quite literally just going to
- 5:09put Job in his place. Okay. Starts out
- 5:11with this. Who is this that obscures my
- 5:13plans with words without knowledge? Like
- 5:15immediately. You got a lot of words, but
- 5:17you have no knowledge. Brace yourself
- 5:19like a man. WOO. WHEN GOD STARTS SAYING,
- 5:23"BRACE YOURSELF like a man," it's like,
- 5:24"I'm scared." Okay, I'm nervous. And
- 5:26then verse four, where were you when I
- 5:29laid the earth's foundations? Tell me if
- 5:31you understand. Who marked off
- 5:34dimension? Surely you know, you could
- 5:36hear the sarcasm, man. You know, since
- 5:39you know everything, since you're so
- 5:41innocent, since you are are are claiming
- 5:44that I'm not just, and since you and
- 5:48your friends have made claims about how
- 5:50the world works, since you know how the
- 5:53world works, let's talk about the world.
- 5:56Let's see how much you know about the
- 6:00cosmos, about the universe. And I mean,
- 6:02we get a couple questions in and you
- 6:04start to get what Yahweh is saying. I
- 6:07mean these questions are not questions.
- 6:08They are statements. And Yahweh says,
- 6:10"Who marked off its dimensions? Surely
- 6:13you know who stretched a measuring line
- 6:15across it? On what were its footing set?
- 6:18Or who laid its cornerstone? While the
- 6:21morning stars sang together, and all the
- 6:23angels shot it for joy? Who shut up the
- 6:26sea behind doors? Then it burst forth
- 6:29from the womb when I made the clouds its
- 6:32garment and wrapped it in thick
- 6:33darkness. When I fixed limits for it and
- 6:35set its doors and bars in place. When I
- 6:37said this far you may come and no
- 6:40further. Here is where your proud ways
- 6:42halt. Have you ever given orders to the
- 6:44morning? Have you EVER GIVEN ORDERS TO
- 6:47THE MORNING? WHAT A BALLER QUESTION TO
- 6:50ASK SOMEBODY. Have you ever given orders
- 6:53to the morning or shown the dawn its
- 6:55place?
- 6:57Like have you and then verse 16. Have
- 6:59you journeyed to the springs of the sea
- 7:01or walked in the recess of the deep?
- 7:03Have the gates of death been shown to
- 7:05you? Verse 18. Have you comprehended the
- 7:08vast expanse of the earth? Tell me if
- 7:10you know all this. 19. What is the WAY
- 7:13TO THE ABODE OF LIGHT? YAHWEH knows what
- 7:15he's doing. He's essentially getting Job
- 7:18to realize, oh gosh, I I just don't have
- 7:22enough information. I am ignorant. I am
- 7:27ignorant. Clearly, God is informed.
- 7:30Clearly, I am not. And this is the
- 7:32beginning of wisdom. You you know when
- 7:34you're talking to a wise person because
- 7:35wise people are genuinely humble.
- 7:37They're genuinely like, "Yeah, man. I
- 7:40don't know. There's a lot I don't know."
- 7:42And so, all right, let me kind of dive
- 7:44into context clues, nerdy nuggets,
- 7:46Thomas truth. Okay, I'm super super
- 7:48excited, but I don't want the format of
- 7:50the episode to get lost. All right, so
- 7:52here's just an introductory thought.
- 7:54Okay, Yahweh is not concerned with Job's
- 7:56innocence or his own sense of justice.
- 7:59That's the first thing I think we just
- 8:00got to observe. At no point in chapters
- 8:0338 or 39 does God actually respond to
- 8:07like what Job has asked like so so the
- 8:11things on the docket to respond to have
- 8:13been Job's innocence to which Yahweh
- 8:16says nothing about that not important to
- 8:18to the Lord. Second is his own justice.
- 8:21Also not important. But there's
- 8:23something that God wants to desperately
- 8:26communicate to Job and his friends. And
- 8:28I think I've got an interpretive key to
- 8:30help us understand what is that idea.
- 8:32But in order to understand it, we need
- 8:34context. All right. So, by the way, the
- 8:36cover of this book is literally based on
- 8:39these chapters that we're about to dive
- 8:41into, specifically chapter 41, okay?
- 8:44Where God begins to describe a creature
- 8:47named Leviathan. Leviathan. pictured
- 8:49here on the cover of my latest book,
- 8:51Crushing Chaos. So, uh, the subtitle of
- 8:54this book is calm your storms, order
- 8:56your life, find your peace. Now, when I
- 8:58wrote this book, the dominant framework
- 9:01for this book is kind of there's chaos
- 9:03and there's order, and chaos and order
- 9:06are at odds with each other. Now, I
- 9:08didn't want this book to be too complex
- 9:10or too convoluted. It's already nerdy
- 9:12enough. If you haven't got a copy of
- 9:14this book, you you should. Okay? We'll
- 9:16make sure there's a link in the
- 9:17description of this of today's episode
- 9:20so that you can grab a copy of this
- 9:21book. It's an incredible book. I know it
- 9:23may seem like I'm biased, but I promise
- 9:25you objectively solid book. All right.
- 9:28Now, when I wrote this book, I knew that
- 9:31there are actually three categories and
- 9:33not just two. But I just didn't want the
- 9:35book to be too complex or too
- 9:37convoluted. So, I stuck to a a twofold
- 9:40system, chaos and order. However, in the
- 9:43ancient world, there are actually three
- 9:46kinds of existence. Okay? There's order,
- 9:50there's non-order, and there's disorder.
- 9:53I want you to wrap your mind around
- 9:54that. Okay? Order, non-order, and
- 9:58disorder. So, let's kind of map out what
- 10:00those three would be. Order. We get
- 10:02order in, you know, Genesis chapter 2,
- 10:05right? Like by the end of day seven,
- 10:08creation has been ordered. The Garden of
- 10:10Eden is ordered. Okay. What is
- 10:13non-order? Non-order is a space that is
- 10:19ready to be ordered. So, let's think
- 10:21about it this way. There have been
- 10:22multiple times in my life where I've
- 10:24moved right from one house to another
- 10:25house. And when you are packing things
- 10:29up to move to a different house and all
- 10:33of your things at your new house are in
- 10:36boxes, okay, that's not disorder, but
- 10:40that is non-order. Okay, it's going to
- 10:42require that you take the time to unpack
- 10:45everything and put it in its place.
- 10:47That's non order. Okay, so order and
- 10:51non-order. Then there's disorder, which
- 10:54is like the unevil force that has ill
- 10:59intent that wants to drag order and
- 11:04non-order back into dysfunction. Okay,
- 11:08this is really disorder and and what I
- 11:11did in the book is essentially what I
- 11:13what I did is instead of creating order,
- 11:16non-order and disorder as three separate
- 11:19categories, I just created order and
- 11:22chaos. And I essentially made non-order
- 11:25and disorder all fall under the umbrella
- 11:29of chaos. Now, here's what's just not
- 11:32fair is that in the ancient world,
- 11:34order, non-order, and disorder are three
- 11:36distinct things. And here's the
- 11:40assumption that Job and his friends are
- 11:42living from. They believe that when
- 11:44there is non-order, okay, non-order,
- 11:48that non-order like suffering or uh
- 11:53non-order like what Job has experienced
- 11:56that that stuff is the result of
- 11:58disorder meaning I sinned. I did
- 12:03something sinful and therefore because
- 12:06of disorder now non-order is present.
- 12:11Okay, that is the assumption that Job
- 12:13and his friends have been operating
- 12:14with. And what Yahweh is saying is that
- 12:18no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Even in the
- 12:21realms of non-order, there's order.
- 12:25Which means when we go back to the
- 12:27triangle and we look at God's justice,
- 12:30Job's innocence, and the policies and
- 12:34procedures whereby God rules the planet.
- 12:37and does he rule the earth with strict
- 12:40justice, retribution and reward policy?
- 12:44God is actually going no. The non-order
- 12:47that you are experiencing is not the
- 12:49result of disorder. Life is not that
- 12:53simple. So what God is actually doing in
- 12:55these speeches is giving Job a tour of
- 12:59the universe and essentially showing him
- 13:02that there are realms that him and his
- 13:04friends would describe as nonordered
- 13:08realms as the kind of places that kind
- 13:11of feel like the beginning of Genesis
- 13:131:1. The earth is formless and void.
- 13:15It's the toou vavohu. It's the deep. And
- 13:18what does God do to that non-order?
- 13:20That's not disorder. That's non order in
- 13:22Genesis 1. But God then brings order.
- 13:26Okay? And for a lot of us, me creating
- 13:29three categories instead of two is gonna
- 13:32bring confusion. But honestly, it should
- 13:34bring clarity. Uh because if we're
- 13:36honest about our own life, there are
- 13:39non-threatening forms of chaos and then
- 13:41there are threatening forms of chaos.
- 13:42All chaos isn't the same, right? And so
- 13:45I want to create a space where we a
- 13:48enter into the ancient worldview of
- 13:50order, non-order, disorder and kind of
- 13:52help us to see that these friends think
- 13:56that all non-order is a result of
- 13:58disorder. But God through showing what
- 14:02happens in nature is actually going to
- 14:04reveal to Job and his friends that nope,
- 14:06my order can actually be found in the
- 14:09realms of non-order. And that would have
- 14:12been the curveball for Job and all of
- 14:14his friends. Let's actually look at one
- 14:18of the verses that is literally doing
- 14:20this. Okay. Now, we're going to that's
- 14:21our context. That's a theological
- 14:23context that we need in order to
- 14:24understand what's happening in Job
- 14:25chapter 38 and 39. Now that we have that
- 14:28context, we can then come to the
- 14:30conclusion that what Yahweh is going to
- 14:33reveal in Job chapter 38 and 39 is that
- 14:36it is not a retribution reward policy.
- 14:41That is the third leg of this triangle.
- 14:44What's actually here is that the earth
- 14:47is not founded on justice but on wisdom.
- 14:51Hokma wisdom. that in order to govern
- 14:55the universe, it is not just a hey all
- 14:59non-order is a result of disorder. No,
- 15:01no, no, no, no, no. But there's a
- 15:03complex relationship between order, not
- 15:05order and disorder. And because of that
- 15:07complex relationship, the thing that
- 15:09fuels the relationship between
- 15:12non-order, disorder, and order is not
- 15:15justice or retribution and reward, but
- 15:18rather wisdom. that this system is
- 15:22fueled by wisdom, not justice.
- 15:25Therefore, the triangle that the friends
- 15:28have been trying to figure out is
- 15:31inherently flawed. Now, let's move into
- 15:34our nerdy nuggets. All right, family.
- 15:36The wait is over. My brand new book,
- 15:39Crushing [music] Chaos, is out now and
- 15:42available everywhere books [music] are
- 15:44sold. Literally today, I walked into a
- 15:48Barnes & Noble and I signed a bunch of
- 15:50copies at a physical location. So, you
- 15:53can grab this book [music]
- 15:54at a physical Barnes & Noble or you can
- 15:57go to a Books a Million or Amazon or
- 15:59anywhere books are sold and grab a copy.
- 16:02If you enjoy reading the Bible from an
- 16:06ancient perspective, if you understand
- 16:08that the beauty of scripture is actually
- 16:10knowing it in context, then you'll love
- 16:13this book. And if there's any chaos in
- 16:16your personal life, I [music] think that
- 16:18reading the Bible from an ancient
- 16:20perspective can actually help to crush
- 16:22the chaos in your life. I think this
- 16:24book is going to be a New York Times
- 16:25bestseller. I really do. I think we
- 16:28wrote a good one. I think you should get
- 16:30a copy today. All right, back to the
- 16:33episode. God is going to reveal that his
- 16:38order can be found in non-ordered space.
- 16:40And he's actually going to do it in a
- 16:42quite fascinating way. Let's look at the
- 16:44relationship between God's order,
- 16:46non-order, and disorder. The
- 16:47interpretive key here is found in Job
- 16:50chapter 38 verse 25 to 26. Okay, here we
- 16:55go. This is what Yahweh says. He's
- 16:56saying, if you think that things just
- 16:59operate in the universe based on
- 17:02justice, riddle me this, Job, okay, who
- 17:06cuts a channel for the torrent of rain?
- 17:08Now, rain is going to be seen in the
- 17:12ancient world as a part of God's
- 17:14retribution or reward. Okay?
- 17:16Retribution. If people are evil and
- 17:19wicked, they get a flood, right? If
- 17:22people are blessed or if people are wise
- 17:26and they follow Torah, what happens? God
- 17:30sends rain so they can have crops so
- 17:31there's no famine or drought. Okay? So
- 17:33rain literally is an example of
- 17:37retribution and reward. And God is
- 17:40saying, "If I only operated the rain
- 17:44according to retribution and reward,
- 17:46riddle me this. Who cuts a channel for
- 17:49the torrent of rain and a path for the
- 17:51thunderstorm?" Verse 26, to water a land
- 17:55where no one lives, an un inhabited
- 17:58desert. Hey Joe and your friends who are
- 18:00in earshot, if I manage the universe
- 18:03based on reward and retribution, why do
- 18:06I send rain to the desert where it's not
- 18:08even useful? Why do I do that? I do that
- 18:12because the world that we live in is
- 18:15more complicated than you know. And the
- 18:19relationship between order, non-order,
- 18:21and disorder is not as neat and tidy as
- 18:24you think. You think that all non-order
- 18:27is a result of disorder. And I'm here to
- 18:30tell you right now, there is an order
- 18:33even to the realms of non-order in the
- 18:36cosmos. So what we are going to see in
- 18:39chapters 38 and 39 is that Yahweh is
- 18:43going to give Job seven realms of the of
- 18:48the geographical universe and then seven
- 18:50realms of the animal kingdom. Okay? So,
- 18:53we're going to get two sets of seven.
- 18:55I'll give you the first set. Okay. The
- 18:57first set of seven is chapter 38:es 2-7
- 19:01is the foundation of the earth. Does Job
- 19:03know how God began creation? Then Job 38
- 19:078-11, the sea. Does God know how God
- 19:10contains the sea? Then 38:12, shiel. Has
- 19:13Job ever seen or know the place of the
- 19:15dead? Then number fourth, Job 38 22 to
- 19:1924, snow and hail. Has Job seen where
- 19:23God stores the snow and the hail? And
- 19:25then Job 38:25-30,
- 19:28rain. Does Job know how and why it
- 19:30rains? We just looked at that just now.
- 19:32And then number six, the heavens. Could
- 19:35Job plant the constellations in the sky
- 19:37or know their course? And then number
- 19:39seven, Job 38 34-38, the storm. Can Job
- 19:43control the storm and lightning? So,
- 19:46seven realms of just the geographical
- 19:49universe that Job has no idea how it
- 19:53works. And the big thing that Yahweh is
- 19:56communicating is that these are realms
- 20:00that the ancient person would have seen
- 20:02as non-order. And Yahweh is trying to
- 20:05show that these realms of non-order are
- 20:07not fueled by disorder, but they're
- 20:10fueled by God's order. and that the
- 20:13relationship between order, non-order,
- 20:15and disorder are actually something that
- 20:17Job does not comprehend. This is above
- 20:21Job's pay grade. Okay. Second is there's
- 20:24seven aspects of Yahweh's policies, his
- 20:28purpose, his plan in the animal world.
- 20:30Okay. So, Job chapter 38 uh 39-41. The
- 20:34lion. Can J can Job provide prey for the
- 20:37lions? And then Job 39:es 1-4, the
- 20:40mountain goat. Does Job know when the
- 20:42mountain goat gives birth? And then Job
- 20:4539 5 to 8, the wild donkey. Did Job let
- 20:49the donkey run wild? Then Job 39-12,
- 20:54the wild ox. Is the wild ox willing to
- 20:56serve Job? And then number five, Job 39
- 21:0013- 18, the ostrich. Okay. Could Job
- 21:03possibly understand why an ostrich is is
- 21:05like it is? And then six, Job 39 to 25,
- 21:09the warhorse. Did Job make the warhorse
- 21:12so mighty? And then lastly, seven. Okay.
- 21:16Birds of prey. Job 39 26-30. Does Job
- 21:20understand? Does Job's understanding
- 21:23make the hawk sore? So, seven, two sets
- 21:26of seven. Two sets of ordered lists that
- 21:30describe realms of non-order that are
- 21:34not being fueled by disorder. This would
- 21:37have broken Job and his friends brains.
- 21:40But without context, you don't really
- 21:43understand what's happening. All many of
- 21:46us realize is, dang, Job got sunned.
- 21:49Like, Job got humbled. But there's so
- 21:52much more happening than just Job
- 21:55getting humbled. He's actually moving
- 21:57from a place of needing to defend his
- 22:00innocence to realizing maybe the
- 22:03suffering, aka the non-order that I've
- 22:05experienced, is not the result of
- 22:08disorder. Maybe there's something about
- 22:10the universe and how it runs that I have
- 22:14made assumptions about and my
- 22:16assumptions are incorrect. Job is coming
- 22:19to the place of man not I shouldn't just
- 22:23be arguing for my innocence but I should
- 22:26acknowledge my incorrectness and I
- 22:29should really realize that I'm ignorant.
- 22:33Now, Job's response to all of this is,
- 22:36okay, let's flip to Job, the end of Job
- 22:3939. Sorry, not Job 39, Job 40. It says
- 22:42this in verse three. Then Job answered
- 22:44the Lord, I am unworthy. How can I reply
- 22:46to you? I put my hand over my mouth. I
- 22:49spoke once, but I have no answer. Twice,
- 22:52but I will say no more. Then the Lord
- 22:54spoke to Job out of the storm. Brace
- 22:56yourself like a man. I will question
- 22:57you, and you will answer me. God's not
- 23:00done. And so God's purpose is not just
- 23:03to get you to the place of I'll shut up.
- 23:06Nope. Cuz what good does it do God if
- 23:08you just shut up for the rest of your
- 23:10life? God's goal is not just to sun you
- 23:13and humble you. It's actually to inform
- 23:16you and to fill you with wisdom so that
- 23:19you can be his witness in all the earth.
- 23:22Like that's the goal. All right. So
- 23:24what's our Thomas truth for the day?
- 23:26Obviously tomorrow we are going to get
- 23:28into what is Yahweh's next move because
- 23:32man Yahweh wants to fill Job with the
- 23:35kind of wisdom that Job could actually
- 23:37be a billboard for God's wisdom his
- 23:40hokema the thing that actually runs the
- 23:42universe not his justice all right let
- 23:45me leave you with the timeless truth
- 23:46there's this cool little verse okay uh
- 23:49where God is being described as so
- 23:52transcendent but then it's like he knows
- 23:54where the mountain goats give birth at?
- 23:56This is a profound question. Okay, it
- 23:59says this. This is Job 39 uh verse one.
- 24:02Do you know when the mountain goat gives
- 24:04birth? Do you observe the calving of the
- 24:07dose? Okay, this is a profound question
- 24:09because it is such a small thing. Okay,
- 24:11this our timeless truth. Okay, this is
- 24:13not the creation of Orion, but the birth
- 24:15of a mountain goat. But where do
- 24:18mountain goats give birth? In the
- 24:20mountains, of course. I mean, duh. Okay,
- 24:22there are the these are the goats that
- 24:24walk on the seemingly vertical cliffs. I
- 24:26don't know if you've ever seen these
- 24:27mountain goats. It's like how in the
- 24:29world can they can they even live up
- 24:32here? They walk easily in places that
- 24:34humans cannot go. Mountain goats give
- 24:36birth in places inaccessible to humans.
- 24:39So no human could ever know when it
- 24:43happened as they could not be there to
- 24:45witness it. And remember the mountains
- 24:48are inhabitable for humans which means
- 24:51it's not ordered space. Gardens are
- 24:53ordered space because that's where
- 24:54humans can live. But the mountains would
- 24:56be non-order. It's not disorder but it's
- 24:59non order. Okay? They walk easily in
- 25:02places humans cannot go. Mountain goats
- 25:04give birth in places inaccessible to
- 25:05humans. So no human could ever know when
- 25:07it happened as they could not be there
- 25:10to witness it. So Job could not know
- 25:13this information. Yet Yahweh does. He
- 25:16does know when mountain goats give
- 25:18birth. He does witness it. This is
- 25:20telling us something unbelievable about
- 25:22God. The same God who created the
- 25:24constellations in the sky. The same God
- 25:27who created things like Orion and the
- 25:29Pleaides in the sky is present to
- 25:32witness the birth of a mountain goat.
- 25:34The transcendent glorious creator God
- 25:36who is far off, who is big, who is
- 25:39magnificent, to whom Job is nothing in
- 25:42comparison, believes that the birth of a
- 25:44goat in the mountains is a significant
- 25:46event that he should be there for. He's
- 25:49not just transcendent, he's intimate and
- 25:51he's close. He flings stars into space
- 25:54cuz he's big. But he also watches over
- 25:57goats being born and learn how to walk.
- 26:00Why? because he's also intimately
- 26:03involved in the small details of life.
- 26:05He's glorious and transcendent. Job's
- 26:07friends were right about that. But they
- 26:10miss something that is just as vital in
- 26:12understanding God and his creation. He
- 26:14is also intimate. He's absent, but he is
- 26:18fully present. God cannot answer Job's
- 26:20complaints. Why? Because these
- 26:23complaints have nothing to do with God's
- 26:26great transcendence and his intimacy.
- 26:28God is essentially communicating to Job,
- 26:31my justice is not the only thing that
- 26:33there is to know about me. And my
- 26:35justice is not really the thing that
- 26:37fuels the universe. It's my wisdom. It's
- 26:40my hookah. And if you want to learn more
- 26:43about my wisdom, then keep listening to
- 26:45Job because I have another speech for
- 26:48you. And that's not just true for Job,
- 26:50it's true for us. We have to be
- 26:52intimately aware of the transcendent God
- 26:55that would cause us to be in awe that we
- 26:57would worship. That would get us to the
- 26:59point of I'm I'm scared of that God.
- 27:01He's big. I'm small. But also, that's
- 27:04the beginning of wisdom, not the end.
- 27:06The end of wisdom is to actually know
- 27:08this God, not in a transcendent way, but
- 27:10in an intimate way. And that's true
- 27:13forever, universally, and timelessly.
- 27:15And with that, I commission you to live
- 27:17a blessed life today. But I'm also
- 27:19inviting you back for part two of this
- 27:22episode, which we'll pick up on
