- 0:24Family, welcome to day 307. We are in
- 0:27Proverbs 16:1, 17, and 18 today. And I'm
- 0:31going to give you just A LITTLE BIT OF
- 0:32CONTEXT AND THEN WE'RE GOING TO JUMP
- 0:34INTO A LOT OF NERDY NUGGETS. TO BE
- 0:36HONEST, EVERY single proverb can be a
- 0:38timeless truth. Like, that's the beauty
- 0:41of these proverbs. I'm having a blast
- 0:43teaching through proverbs. I love
- 0:45proverbs. I love wisdom. I love love
- 0:48love
- 0:50wisdom. And uh I love people who have
- 0:52wisdom. I love people who share wisdom.
- 0:54I love people who have things to say
- 0:58THAT ARE WISE. OH, I'm in love with
- 1:01wisdom. And uh and so today uh just some
- 1:05really really short context clues. Okay,
- 1:07couple of verses from today where you're
- 1:10just going to have to get in the habit
- 1:12when you read the Bible all the time,
- 1:14but definitely when you read these to
- 1:16just, you know, put some context in
- 1:18place. So, like I say every day, if you
- 1:21haven't done the reading for the day,
- 1:22okay, if you have not read Proverbs
- 1:2416:17 and 18, stop this video, pause the
- 1:27audio, go get the reading done so that
- 1:30you can actually have context for what
- 1:32we're going to talk about in today's
- 1:33episode. With no further ado, for
- 1:35everybody who's done the reading, let's
- 1:37dive into our context clues. I'm just
- 1:39going to give you a couple of Proverbs
- 1:41where it's important to just still do
- 1:44the work of interpreting. Okay. So,
- 1:46Proverbs 16:14 says this, "A king's
- 1:48wrath is a messenger of death, and a
- 1:51wise man will appease it." Well, many of
- 1:54us, especially if you're in the United
- 1:56States of America, don't have a king.
- 1:58Again, you're going to have to interpret
- 2:00that. We're used to a president. We're
- 2:02used to democracy. Okay? We're not used
- 2:04to a monarchy. And so, again, you're
- 2:07going to have to take that verse and go,
- 2:10"All right, what word could I sub in?
- 2:13Can I say a ruler's wrath is a messenger
- 2:16of death? Like what what can I sub in?
- 2:18Okay, the next one is the lot is cast
- 2:21into the lap, but it's every decision is
- 2:24from Yahweh. You know, now I could be
- 2:27wrong, but you know, I'm assuming most
- 2:29OF US DON'T CAST LOTS, you know. I'm
- 2:31assuming that's not how you make
- 2:33decisions. I'm assuming that you don't
- 2:34got lots in your pocketbook and when you
- 2:36got to, you know, when you're at a fork
- 2:38in the road, you bust out your lots and
- 2:39cast them, you know. So again that is
- 2:42going to have to get interpreted into
- 2:45modern society. Okay. Uh the next one
- 2:47chapter 18 11. A rich man's wealth is
- 2:51his strong city and like a high wall in
- 2:54his imagination. Okay. So modern cities
- 2:58don't have walls around them. All right.
- 3:01So you know a rich man's wealth is his
- 3:04VPN is a better way to say that. Right?
- 3:07like you know cyber security is more of
- 3:10an imminent threat to most of our daily
- 3:13lives than an army invading our city and
- 3:16us needing a wall. Okay, so again this
- 3:18is just going to require interpretation
- 3:21and we're going to get into this one at
- 3:23the end of the episode. We're going to
- 3:24really talk about this in our timeless
- 3:25truth, but it's a man's gift makes room
- 3:28for him and brings him before the great.
- 3:30Now, a lot of people I've seen heard a
- 3:35lot of people try to teach that this the
- 3:37the context of this verse is a bribe.
- 3:40That's not true. And I'm going to debunk
- 3:42that myth. So anyway, we'll get into
- 3:45that in our timeless truth. But again,
- 3:47you need context to help you to
- 3:49understand, you know, what is the Bible
- 3:51trying to communicate when it talks
- 3:53about a king or it talked about lots or
- 3:55it talks about a strong city. Another
- 3:57one, chapter 18 verse 19 says, "A
- 4:00brother offended is more unyielding than
- 4:02a strong city." All right. The only way
- 4:04for me to understand that verse is to
- 4:06understand what does the Bible mean by a
- 4:08strong city. So I'm going to need some
- 4:09historical context. And quarreling is
- 4:12like the bars of a castle, assuming
- 4:15there are no castles in your
- 4:16neighborhood. Okay. So in terms of
- 4:19imagery, right, I don't need context to
- 4:22comprehend what's happening, but I do
- 4:24need to realize, okay, there's a layer
- 4:26of interpretive context that I need
- 4:30simply because I'm engaging with content
- 4:32that's from a different cultural time,
- 4:35you know, a different cultural moment.
- 4:37Okay. So, all right. Just want to keep
- 4:39our, you know, context clue ears perked
- 4:44up. All right. Just because we're in the
- 4:46proverbs doesn't mean proverbs that
- 4:48context clues are completely irrelevant.
- 4:51It just means we can still understand
- 4:53the proverbs without like a historical
- 4:56moment or an author or an intended
- 5:00audience, but you're still going to have
- 5:02to translate this imagery maybe in into
- 5:06some modernday imagery because I
- 5:08actually think that's the point. The
- 5:10point of the proverbs are to pack a
- 5:12punch. So if the imagery doesn't mean
- 5:14anything to you then it's not it loses
- 5:17its shock value. So the same way that I
- 5:20would take say all right a walled city
- 5:22none of us live in walled cities even if
- 5:23we cognizantly understand what that
- 5:25means it loses its shock value whereas
- 5:28like cyber security makes sense right
- 5:32like if somebody were to think like man
- 5:34I got hacked and that all my I I was the
- 5:37victim of credit card fraud and I lost
- 5:40thousands of thousands of dollars. Okay.
- 5:42All of us know that pain. None of us
- 5:45have ever been living in a city that was
- 5:47walled and got invaded. None of us. None
- 5:50of us. Maybe if you're watching this, I
- 5:53don't know, and you live in Bangladesh,
- 5:55but for many of us, right? That's just
- 5:58never happened, okay? You don't live in
- 5:59neighborhoods with castles. You don't
- 6:01live in fortified cities. You don't live
- 6:03in cities that have walls around them.
- 6:05And I have no idea if there are any of
- 6:06those in Bangladesh either. I just kind
- 6:08of named a random city, any random
- 6:10country. Anyway, all right. Time for the
- 6:12top 10. Let's get into our nerdy
- 6:14nuggets. Okay, time for the top 10. The
- 6:16first in order, not of or like
- 6:19importance, but in order of appearance,
- 6:22we got Proverbs 16:8. Proverbs 16:8.
- 6:25Now, this is a repeated theme all
- 6:27throughout the Proverbs. It's a really,
- 6:29really, really good proverb. Okay. 16:8.
- 6:32Better a little with righteousness than
- 6:34much gain with injustice. So again, the
- 6:37proverbs going to make it clear. Nothing
- 6:39wrong with wealth. Nothing wrong with
- 6:40wealth. There is not an anti-w wealth
- 6:44palemic being, you know, preached here
- 6:47in the proverbs. However, there is an
- 6:50anti-greed, anti- idolatry, anti-
- 6:53injustice, anti- laziness palemic being
- 6:57preached here in Proverbs. And we get to
- 6:59see it better a little. It's better to
- 7:01have less money. But but but no guilty
- 7:05conscience. You did it all right before
- 7:08the Lord. Okay. than much gain with
- 7:11injustice. And again, the word in
- 7:13injustice is not a liberal word. It's a
- 7:16Bible word. All right? So anyway, I
- 7:19don't want to go down that rabbit trail,
- 7:20but Proverbs 16:16, uh, it says this,
- 7:23"How much better to get wisdom than
- 7:25gold, to get insight rather than
- 7:28silver." This is a repeated theme all
- 7:30throughout the proverbs that if we were
- 7:33to put a monetary value on wisdom that
- 7:37you should value it more than you value,
- 7:40you know, things that bring monetary,
- 7:42you know, wealth and security. Wisdom is
- 7:46everything. And if you ever have to
- 7:48spend money to get wisdom, that's a
- 7:51great thing to spend money on because
- 7:54wisdom is more valuable than gold. It's
- 7:55more valuable than silver. So the
- 7:57question is, would you spend money on
- 7:58gold and silver? Yeah. All right. If I
- 8:01would spend money on gold and silver,
- 8:02then it makes sense to spend money on
- 8:05attaining wisdom. 1623 is in my top 10.
- 8:09It says this, "The hearts of the wise
- 8:11make their mouths prudent, and their
- 8:14lips promote instruction." Okay, hold
- 8:17up. Hold up. The hearts of the wise make
- 8:21their mouths prudent. So, so remember if
- 8:23you were here for yesterday's episode, I
- 8:26said that one of the things that I've
- 8:27learned in the last couple years is how
- 8:28to be more tactful, how to be more
- 8:30careful with my words, how to be more
- 8:32precise with my vocabulary, how to be
- 8:35more surgical. Well, also what's
- 8:38happened in the last two to three years
- 8:39is there's stuff in my heart that's
- 8:41gotten healed. And so, I'm not suffering
- 8:43from discontentment, self-hatred, self-
- 8:46judgment, self-loathing. And so the
- 8:48reason that a lot of my words were toxic
- 8:51was because my heart was toxic. And you
- 8:54can see here the link between a healthy
- 8:57heart and healthy words. What does it
- 8:59say? The hearts of the wise make their
- 9:03mouths prudent and their lips promote
- 9:06instruction. So the stuff that comes out
- 9:08of their mouth is healthy. Why? Because
- 9:11it comes from a healthy heart. And I
- 9:13think there's a lot of people who they
- 9:15don't know whether or not they have a
- 9:16healthy heart, which means you need a
- 9:18check engine light. And your words
- 9:20should become a check engine light. If
- 9:22your words are negative, if your words
- 9:24are toxic, if your words are damaging,
- 9:26then chances are you've got something
- 9:30going on in your heart. there's some
- 9:32negativity or some cynicism or some
- 9:34criticism or something that's happening
- 9:36in your heart that's making you, you
- 9:39know, say things that are ridiculous and
- 9:43rude. Okay, so let's keep going. The
- 9:46next one is a life verse for me. This is
- 9:47Proverbs 16:25. Family, the wait is
- 9:51over. My brand new book, Crushing Chaos,
- 9:54is out now and available everywhere
- 9:57books are [music] sold literally today.
- 10:00I walked into a Barnes & Noble and I
- 10:03signed a bunch of copies at a physical
- 10:05location. So, you can grab this book
- 10:07[music] at a physical Barnes & Noble or
- 10:10you can go to a Books a Million or
- 10:12Amazon or anywhere books are sold and
- 10:15grab a copy. If you enjoy reading the
- 10:18Bible from an ancient perspective, if
- 10:21you understand that the beauty of
- 10:23scripture is actually knowing it in
- 10:25context, then you'll love this book. And
- 10:28if there's any chaos in your personal
- 10:30life, I [music] think that reading the
- 10:32Bible from an ancient perspective can
- 10:34actually help to crush the chaos in your
- 10:37life. I think this book is going to be a
- 10:38NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER. I really do.
- 10:41I think we wrote a good one. I think you
- 10:43should get a copy today. All right, back
- 10:46to the episode. It says this, "There is
- 10:48a way that appears to be right, but in
- 10:51the end it leads to death. That means
- 10:54that the way of life is
- 10:56counterintuitive. I'm never going to
- 10:58intuitively just figure out that I
- 11:01should be vulnerable." That's not
- 11:03intuitive. I'm not just going to
- 11:05intuitively figure out that I should be
- 11:08honoring. Okay? Humans in their natural
- 11:10state are stupid. We're foolish. We do
- 11:13dumb stuff. Okay? So it means there's a
- 11:16way that appears to be right.
- 11:18Everybody's got opinions on what's
- 11:19right, but in the end it leads to death.
- 11:22So what do we all need? The humility to
- 11:24know that the way that appears right to
- 11:27me could 100% be wrong. And it's humble.
- 11:32It's good. It's godly to acknowledge. I
- 11:35probably don't know what I'm talking
- 11:36about. Okay. Next. Proverbs 16:28. This
- 11:40is good, man. This is a really, really
- 11:41good one. A perverse person stirs up
- 11:44conflict and a gossip separates close
- 11:47friends. I personally never struggle
- 11:49with the gossip, but conflict, oh yeah,
- 11:51I would have described myself as a very
- 11:53confrontational person. I'm still
- 11:55confrontational, but I'm now
- 11:57confrontational, but also warm, like
- 12:01friendly, pastoral, kind, and even when
- 12:04I have confrontation, it doesn't equal
- 12:07conflict. I used to be confrontational
- 12:09to the point of conflict, but Proverbs
- 12:13makes makes it pretty clear that that's
- 12:15perversion. A perverse person stirs up
- 12:18conflict. Okay? Healthy people like
- 12:20peace and gossip separates close
- 12:22friends. Gossip's a sin. Period. You
- 12:25shouldn't be gossiping. And uh I hope
- 12:28that if you do gossip, your pastor
- 12:30corrects you, disciplines you, and if
- 12:32you keep doing it, I hope they kick you
- 12:34out of the church, cuz that's what
- 12:36should happen. Gossip. Gossip will break
- 12:38up. Break up a community of believers.
- 12:40Gossip's toxic, man. And gossip is one
- 12:43of those things where people who are
- 12:45moral think that they can get away with
- 12:46gossip because it's not immoral. But
- 12:48it's a it it's a sign of bad character.
- 12:51And I think sometimes in Christian
- 12:53circles, we think that God is all about
- 12:55morals when really he's all about morals
- 12:57and character. And because gossip isn't
- 13:01immoral, it's almost like you think you
- 13:04can get a pass. But I know people who
- 13:06don't drink, don't smoke, don't party,
- 13:09don't take drugs, don't whatever, don't
- 13:12do this, don't do that, don't do that.
- 13:13But they gossip and it's like, that's
- 13:15crazy, man. Gossip's crazy. First of
- 13:17all, mind your business. Second of all,
- 13:19like, if you're offended, just go to the
- 13:21person you're offended. You know, gossip
- 13:23comes from a place of offense and not
- 13:25minding your business. Mind your
- 13:26business. Drink drink water, stay
- 13:28hydrated, do your skincare routine, and
- 13:30and you got to you got to you got to
- 13:32mind your business. you can't be
- 13:33gossiping. And you know, I always told
- 13:36my wife, we were on staff together for
- 13:38eight years, told her, you know, the
- 13:40number one person that people typically
- 13:41gossip to is their spouse. And so,
- 13:44anytime my pastor offended me, which was
- 13:46often, you know, I would never tell my
- 13:48wife about my pastor offending me
- 13:50because why would I gossip to like my
- 13:52wife? That's crazy. Gossip is telling
- 13:55anyone who's equal to you or below you
- 13:59in authority something that you should
- 14:01be communicating up. So, anytime you're
- 14:03offended, the person to talk to is your
- 14:06boss or your superior or your team lead
- 14:09or your accountability person who's who
- 14:13you're beneath them in terms of
- 14:16spiritual maturity. You should never be
- 14:18communicating across or down. Anytime
- 14:21you communicate across or down, it's a
- 14:23wrap. By the way, if you should type in
- 14:26Dave Ramsey gossip and anything that
- 14:28pops up on YouTube, you should watch it
- 14:30because they'll warn somebody one time
- 14:32and then they'll fire you. The Ramsay
- 14:35Solutions will fire you for gossiping.
- 14:37And I agree with that. I'm I can rock
- 14:38with that. I think people who gossip
- 14:40should be fired cuz first of all, you
- 14:42can't do your job and gossip at the same
- 14:44time. Like, you should be too busy to
- 14:45gossip. You You got work to do, bro.
- 14:48Like, why are you gossiping anyway?
- 14:50gossiping just gets under my my skin.
- 14:53But let's move on to the next one. Uh,
- 14:56Proverbs 17:3. Okay, Proverbs 17:3 says
- 14:59this, "The crucible for silver, the
- 15:01furnace for gold." So, this now this
- 15:03talking about refining choice metals,
- 15:06silver and gold. How do you refine
- 15:07silver? The crucible. How do you refine
- 15:10gold? Furnace. But the Lord tests the
- 15:13heart, man. So, your heart doesn't need
- 15:15the crucible or the furnace. It needs
- 15:17God. God begins in God's presence. That
- 15:23is where God begins to refine your heart
- 15:26so that you can get to the place where
- 15:28you don't say crazy stuff. That's where
- 15:30God wants to heal your heart. He wants
- 15:32to mold your heart. He wants to shape
- 15:33your heart. He wants to he wants to he
- 15:36wants to have [snorts] your heart so
- 15:37that he can get a handle on the words
- 15:40that you speak. Okay. All right. 1719
- 15:43is going to equate quarreling with
- 15:47sinfulness. 17:19 it says this, "Whoever
- 15:50loves a quarrel loves sin." Now, this
- 15:52used to be me, man. I used to love
- 15:54quarreling, which meant I love sin. It's
- 15:56terrible. Whoever builds a high gate
- 15:59invites destruction. Okay. Whoever loves
- 16:03a quarrel loves sin. That means like
- 16:05love an argument, love a debate. I was
- 16:07on that train, you know. I would say
- 16:09that the reason that um I was wired for
- 16:14quarreling is because I grew up in a
- 16:16home where we formed intimacy through
- 16:19arguing with each other. And so I kind
- 16:21of got married and assumed that's the
- 16:23healthy way that people have intimate
- 16:26relationships. They confront each other.
- 16:27They fight. They argue only to realize
- 16:30that that's toxic. Like that's nuts. And
- 16:33so I would pick fights, pick arguments
- 16:35cuz that's the only way I felt like I
- 16:37could really know my wife was to catch
- 16:40her off guard and know what was really
- 16:42in her heart, you know? And that's
- 16:46crazy. Like I was like wanting to be
- 16:48offended. I just wanted to know. I was
- 16:50like, "Yeah, I know she got some crazy
- 16:52thoughts. I want to know what they are."
- 16:54And so I would pick fights. That's dumb.
- 16:56Like thank God I'm not dumb no more.
- 16:58Like I'm not stupid anymore. Like I just
- 17:00kind of got wise and realized, wait a
- 17:04second, like that's just a dumb way to
- 17:06live life. And who who wants to do that?
- 17:09Like why spend that amount of emotional
- 17:12energy on stupidity when I could do
- 17:15things that could cause my life to
- 17:16thrive and flourish? Um, okay. Those who
- 17:19love to quarrel. Okay. 1719. Let's go
- 17:22back to it. Whoever loves a quarrel
- 17:24loves sin. Whoever builds a high gate
- 17:26invites destruction. We don't need the
- 17:28second half of the verse. Proverbs
- 17:3017:28. We only got a couple minutes
- 17:32left. Proverbs 17:28 says this, "Even
- 17:36fools are thought wise if they keep
- 17:38silent and discerning if they hold their
- 17:40tongues. If you're not wise, just don't
- 17:43talk a lot." Done. Like if you're dumb,
- 17:46don't talk. There are a couple times
- 17:47where I've had someone that I'm
- 17:49discipling like go with me to a meeting
- 17:51and I've told them straight up, "Hey,
- 17:53just you're here to listen, not talk."
- 17:55And the reason I said that is because I
- 17:58don't need everybody at the table to
- 17:59know that they're foolish. You know,
- 18:01it's okay that I know that they're
- 18:02foolish. I'm pastoring them. I'm trying
- 18:04to pastor them out of being foolish. But
- 18:07my pet peeve are people who talk more
- 18:08than they listen when really they should
- 18:11be listening. Like talking doesn't make
- 18:13you wise, but listening does. And so at
- 18:16some point you're going to have to
- 18:17realize, you know, talking talking only
- 18:20reveals all the things you don't know.
- 18:23But listening to other people who are
- 18:26wise talk, that's that's where the
- 18:28gold's at, man. All right. Proverbs
- 18:3118:9, one of my favorites. It says this,
- 18:33"One who is slack in his work is brother
- 18:36to the one who destroys." Destroys. The
- 18:40the verse here is equating someone
- 18:43coming and destroying a construction
- 18:45site with the person who's building it
- 18:47half-hearted. If you cut corners, you're
- 18:50you're no better than the person who is
- 18:52is demolishing it. Like I I want that
- 18:55verse in the employee handbook for every
- 18:57organization I lead. If you slack, you
- 19:00are sibling to the person who destroys.
- 19:03That's great. First of all, it a
- 19:06slacker, you know, doesn't take pride in
- 19:08their work. A slacker is not excellent.
- 19:10You know, a slacker wants to mooch off
- 19:12everybody else's hard work. a slacker.
- 19:15Just a slacker. Just, you know, could
- 19:18give a 100% effort, but it's like
- 19:20they're so talented that like 70%
- 19:22effort's enough. It's like that's a
- 19:24slacker, man. No one wants a slacker.
- 19:26Don't don't be that. Don't don't be
- 19:28slack in your work. And then last of my
- 19:31last one on my top 10, Proverbs 18:22.
- 19:34Wives are freaking awesome. Okay, here's
- 19:36what it says. He who finds a wife finds
- 19:38a finds what is good and receives mercy,
- 19:42favor from the Lord. Okay, a man who
- 19:44finds a wife finds what is good and
- 19:48receives favor from the Lord. Let me
- 19:49give some dating advice to all the men
- 19:51and women out there. Okay, it doesn't
- 19:53say he who finds a girlfriend finds what
- 19:56is good, but finds a wife. Which means
- 19:59when when a man finds you, there should
- 20:02already be wely characteristics. Like
- 20:05when I met my wife, she wasn't yet my
- 20:08wife, but she was definitely a wife. She
- 20:10was a wife material. When I met her, I
- 20:14didn't meet someone who I was like, "All
- 20:16right, let's roll up my sleeves, get
- 20:17busy with this project called Tia." Nah,
- 20:20I met someone who was wife material. If
- 20:24a man is like looking for a wife, he
- 20:27shouldn't find a girlfriend or like a
- 20:29baby mama or like drama or like a
- 20:33project. He should find a wife. And and
- 20:37I think that I know this isn't true all
- 20:39the time, but generally speaking, women
- 20:43can tend to date for potential. So like
- 20:45a a woman will see potential in a guy
- 20:48and like we'll take on a project. I just
- 20:50want all the ladies out there to know
- 20:52that's not how men date. And also men
- 20:54don't date women cuz they love them.
- 20:56They date them because they need them.
- 20:58If I could give like really really good
- 21:00relationship advice to any woman out
- 21:02there who actually wants to be married,
- 21:05not just it says it, but actually wants
- 21:07that for real and wants to be a wife,
- 21:09like become indispensable in some young
- 21:12man's life. If you want someone to put a
- 21:15ring on your finger, become valuable.
- 21:17[clears throat] Become indispensable.
- 21:19Men don't marry women because they like
- 21:22them or love them. They marry them
- 21:24because they can't see themselves living
- 21:26without them. which means those women
- 21:28add real value to those men's lives. So
- 21:32like like but we currently live in a
- 21:35culture that's very much like girl don't
- 21:37let no man take advantage of you and
- 21:39abuse you like well so you're just going
- 21:41to you're just going to play defense.
- 21:43You're never going to score. You're just
- 21:45going to you're going to live your life
- 21:46playing defense. That's you're living
- 21:48your life from a place of fear. You're
- 21:50living your life from a place of I'm
- 21:52scared to get hurt. You should never
- 21:54live your life from a place of fear. I I
- 21:56don't care if people take advantage of
- 21:58me. I don't I don't care. Like at the
- 22:00end, guess what? God's going to tally it
- 22:02all up. And there there is no one who's
- 22:04ever going to get over on me. That that
- 22:06doesn't exist. You know, even right now
- 22:08like we're building a church and some of
- 22:10the people on the team are like, you
- 22:12know, I'm just nervous about that
- 22:13person. Like I think they want to lead
- 22:14worship cuz they want to take advantage
- 22:16of your platform, Pastor Manny. And I'm
- 22:18like, let them do that then. I don't I
- 22:20don't care what I'm supposed to live my
- 22:22life in defense mode. Just constantly
- 22:25like I'm scared of their motive and
- 22:27their motive and their motive. So, I'm
- 22:28just going to protect myself. That's
- 22:29crazy. Actually, I just want to live my
- 22:31life generous. I'm going to add value.
- 22:33I'm going to add value. I'm going to add
- 22:34value. I'm going to take big risks on
- 22:36people. I'm going to trust people. And
- 22:37people aren't guilty until proven
- 22:39innocent with me. They're innocent until
- 22:42proven guilty. I give people trust and
- 22:44it's up to them to lose it. And so if
- 22:46you're a young woman, I would say no,
- 22:48no, no, like make yourself
- 22:49indispensable.
- 22:51Like find a guy like help that man and
- 22:55like make his life so much better that
- 22:59that guy decides I need to lock this
- 23:01down. Cuz like if I lose this woman, I'm
- 23:06going to lose money making potential.
- 23:08I'm going to lose wealth. I'm going to
- 23:10lose my ability to be effective at my
- 23:13job. I'm going to lose out. I've told
- 23:15the story a couple times, but me and
- 23:17Pastor Tia, we were dating and uh I was
- 23:20probably like 23 at the time and I quit
- 23:22my job in Boston. I was moving to North
- 23:24Carolina and I needed to find a job in
- 23:26North Carolina and you know I I've only
- 23:29ever gotten jobs based on networking and
- 23:32just like relationships and had never
- 23:35really needed to like apply for a job.
- 23:38Uh a lot of that's just based on my
- 23:40charisma and my level of charm and I so
- 23:43I didn't have a resume. I was like 25
- 23:45years old. I didn't have a resume and I
- 23:46was at a Starbucks. I was stressed out
- 23:48about needing this resume because I
- 23:49needed to find a job when I got to North
- 23:50Carolina and I had like a 25 minute
- 23:53drive home and uh I I'm about to date
- 23:56myself. Here we go. I was on Skype with
- 23:59Pastor Tia. I was on Skype with this
- 24:01woman and I was just kind of stressed
- 24:02out about needing a resume and it was a
- 24:0525minute drive. This is prior to chat
- 24:08GBT. Okay. No AI involved. I drove home
- 24:11and when I got she always used to tell
- 24:13me when you get home let me know so I
- 24:15know you're safe. So I got home I let
- 24:17her know I was home and she said check
- 24:19your email and in my email was a resume.
- 24:22That woman typed up a whole resume for
- 24:24me so that I could get a job. You want
- 24:26to know what I did? I put a ring on that
- 24:28woman's finger because she added value
- 24:31to me. She became indispensable to me.
- 24:34One time this is why we were dating. The
- 24:36church that I was at in North Carolina
- 24:37wanted me to teach a whole course on
- 24:39John and uh they needed me to submit my
- 24:41notes before I could teach the course.
- 24:43But all I had was a whiteboard of a time
- 24:46where I had taught the course cuz I
- 24:47don't teach from notes. I don't really
- 24:49have notes. And so she found the the
- 24:52pictures of the whiteboard on Facebook
- 24:55and turned the pictures of the
- 24:57whiteboard into notes and submitted it
- 25:00to my boss so that I could get a job at
- 25:02that church. And you want to know what I
- 25:04did to that woman? I put a freaking ring
- 25:06on her finger because she added value to
- 25:10my life. Men don't marry women who they
- 25:13love. They marry women that they need.
- 25:17So if you want a man to marry you, you
- 25:21have to convince that man through your
- 25:23actions that they need you, that they
- 25:28need you. But too many women in our
- 25:31culture right now just want to be arm
- 25:32candy. They just kind of want to be a
- 25:35trophy. They they want to be an
- 25:36accessory. They just want to be cute.
- 25:38They want to be a Disney princess. And
- 25:40the reality is that men marry women that
- 25:44they cannot live without. And so if
- 25:47you're a woman and you want to be a
- 25:51wife, you've got to be a wife. And and
- 25:55wives create budgets. Wives organize the
- 25:59life of the men that they care about and
- 26:02that they love. They have a servant's
- 26:03heart. And don't let society make you so
- 26:06defenseoriented
- 26:08that you don't do the things that would
- 26:11actually make a man lock it down. Okay?
- 26:15There's musicians right now in Houston.
- 26:17They're so good. I'm willing to pay a
- 26:20premium price so that they're not
- 26:22gigging at other churches. They add so
- 26:24much value. I'm willing to lock them
- 26:26down. Okay? So, you should be adding so
- 26:29much value to the man that you're
- 26:31interested in that that dude decides,
- 26:33let's lock this down. Can't risk losing
- 26:36this. This woman adds too much value in
- 26:38my life. All right. Golly, we got to
- 26:41like I don't know. Oh, no. Was that 10?
- 26:43WE GOT TO ALL 10. LET'S GO. OKAY.
- 26:46TIMELESS TRUTH FOR THE DAY. Proverbs
- 26:48chapter 18:16 is not a bribe. Why?
- 26:52Because Proverbs 17:23
- 26:54says, "The wicked accept bribes in
- 26:57secret to pervert the course of
- 27:00justice." So, Proverbs is anti-bribery.
- 27:03So, the context of 18:16 cannot be a
- 27:07bribe. It actually just means a gift.
- 27:10So, the generous, if people are
- 27:13generous, if you show up everywhere you
- 27:15go with gifts for people, guess what
- 27:17happens? Verse 16 of chapter 18. A gift
- 27:20opens the way and ushers the giver into
- 27:24the presence of the great. Again, this
- 27:27is not a pro bribery verse. This is a
- 27:29progenerosity verse. And this is good
- 27:32for me and you. This autonomous truth.
- 27:35TOMORROW we got day 308. We're going to
- 27:38be looking at Proverbs chapters 19 20
- 27:40and 21. It's going TO BE FANTASTIC. WHY?
