- 0:24family. Welcome to day 287 here at the
- 0:27Bible department. Today we are looking
- 0:29at Psalms 104, 105, and 106. And I know
- 0:33I'm not allowed to have favorite days,
- 0:35but this is a good day, man. These are
- 0:37three solid, solid, solid Psalms. So, if
- 0:41you haven't done the reading yet, I want
- 0:43to challenge you. Go ahead, stop the
- 0:46video, pause the audio, go get the
- 0:48reading done. These are beautiful,
- 0:51beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Psalms.
- 0:53and uh Psalm 104 kind of stands alone,
- 0:56but then Psalm 105 and 106 are a pair
- 0:59and that's some really really important
- 1:00context that you're going to need. And
- 1:03if you've done the reading, with no
- 1:04further ado, let's dive into our context
- 1:07clues. Then I'll give you nerdy nuggets
- 1:09and then we'll always end the episode
- 1:12with a timeless truth because we are not
- 1:14just here to learn history or
- 1:16archaeology. The Bible is not a
- 1:19textbook. It is designed to have wisdom
- 1:22that you apply to your life. So, uh,
- 1:24context clues. Okay, first context clue
- 1:27is Psalm 104, which you've probably
- 1:30realized after looking at it is a
- 1:32creation psalm. Now, uh, many people
- 1:35know when you think about the creation
- 1:37accounts that we have in the Bible, most
- 1:40people know that there are two, right?
- 1:42There's a creation account in Genesis
- 1:43chapter 1. And then there's another
- 1:46creation account in Genesis chapters 2
- 1:48and 3, but there's also a creation
- 1:51account here in Psalm 104. Now, we've
- 1:54already seen throughout the Psalms a lot
- 1:58of illusions to the creation accounts.
- 2:01And a lot of these are poetic and
- 2:03mythological
- 2:05kind of uh retellings of the seven days
- 2:08of creation. But this is the big one.
- 2:12All right, we've seen minor poetic and
- 2:16mythological retellings of the creation,
- 2:19but this one is the big kahuna. All
- 2:21right, so Psalm 104 is going to be chalk
- 2:25full of mythological language, poetic
- 2:28language that honestly kind of gives an
- 2:32entirely different perspective on the
- 2:34seven days of creation. There are times
- 2:36where, you know, I will teach, hey,
- 2:40Genesis chapter 1 is not primarily the
- 2:42account of God taking nothing and making
- 2:46something, but God taking chaos and
- 2:48making order. And people look at Genesis
- 2:501 and not be fully convinced. But then
- 2:53you start to look at other creation
- 2:55accounts in the Bible like Psalm 104 and
- 2:58you begin to realize, oh, the authors
- 3:01are taking their mythological worldview
- 3:05and reading Genesis chapter 1 and then
- 3:08coming up with content like we have in
- 3:11Psalm 104 that is deeply infused with an
- 3:16ancient and mythological worldview.
- 3:18Okay. So Psalm 104 is huge for uh
- 3:22creating a truly biblical worldview of
- 3:27of creation. All right. All right. So
- 3:29that's Psalm 104. The most helpful piece
- 3:31of context I could give you for Psalm
- 3:33105 and Psalm 106 is that they are a
- 3:36pair. Now, if you don't know that each
- 3:39of the two Psalms stand alone
- 3:42beautifully, but the moment you know
- 3:44that these are a pair, it kind of
- 3:46clicks. It's the interpretive key that
- 3:49makes these two psalms really come to
- 3:51life. And uh that's all the context
- 3:53we'll dive into for now. Uh so today we
- 3:56don't necessarily have like historical
- 3:58context or cultural context, but we
- 4:02definitely have what I would say is
- 4:04literary context. Okay. Uh Psalm 104
- 4:07fits into a literary genre that we know
- 4:10as mythol mythological and poetic. That
- 4:14is a literary context. And then for
- 4:17Psalm 105 and Psalm 106, we again have
- 4:20literary context. These Psalms are a
- 4:23pair. And if you don't know that, then
- 4:26you don't really get the full breadth of
- 4:30of really what the Psalms are trying to
- 4:32communicate. Okay, let's dive in uh to
- 4:35these to these beautiful, beautiful,
- 4:38beautiful, beautiful psalms. All right,
- 4:40let's start our nerdy nuggets. Let's
- 4:43start with Psalm 104. Again, we are
- 4:45going to see tons of details. Now, one
- 4:48of my professors in Bible college began
- 4:50to explain the difference between a
- 4:53summary and a paraphrase that a summary
- 4:56takes content and condenses it down. A
- 4:59paraphrase actually takes content and
- 5:02expands on it. Okay? So, I want to say
- 5:04that one more time. A summary will take
- 5:07a paragraph and condense it down to a
- 5:10sentence. But a paraphrase takes a
- 5:13sentence and enlarges it to a paragraph.
- 5:15Okay? So what we have in Psalm 104 is a
- 5:20paraphrase
- 5:21of Genesis chapter 1. Now a lot of
- 5:25people think that a paraphrase and a
- 5:27summary are the same thing, but they're
- 5:29not the same thing. Remember, a summary
- 5:32takes the content and pairs it down. A
- 5:35summary yet pairs like gets it down. A
- 5:38paraphrase actually adds words, adds
- 5:41meaning, fills in the gaps, okay? Adds
- 5:44content. So what we have in Psalm 104 is
- 5:46a paraphrase. Okay? So Genesis chapter
- 5:491, all Genesis chapter 1 tells us is
- 5:52that Yahweh said, "Let there be light."
- 5:54But Psalm 104 says, "The Lord wraps
- 5:56himself in light as with a garment."
- 5:59Number one, that's just mythological
- 6:01language. Number two, I would say that
- 6:04that is a poetic retelling. Okay. All
- 6:07Genesis 1 says is that in the beginning
- 6:09God created the heavens and the earth.
- 6:12Psalm 104:2
- 6:14again I'm in verse two says he stretches
- 6:16out the heavens like a tent and lays the
- 6:19beams of his upper chambers on their
- 6:22waters. Okay. Now one of the things I
- 6:25want to emphasize is how important water
- 6:28is in Psalm 104. Okay. So we're going to
- 6:31get a mention of waters here in verse
- 6:33three. We're going to get verse 6. You
- 6:35covered it with the watery depths as
- 6:37with a garment. The waters stood above
- 6:39the mountains. Verse 7, but at your
- 6:42rebuke the waters fled. We're going to
- 6:44get verse 10. He makes springs pour
- 6:47water into ravines. It flows between the
- 6:49mountains. Verse 11, they give water to
- 6:52all the beasts of the field. Verse 12,
- 6:54the birds of the sky nest by the waters.
- 6:57They sing among the branches. Verse 13,
- 6:59he waters the mountains from his upper
- 7:02chambers. Okay. Uh verse 16, the trees
- 7:05of the Lord are wellwatered. Verse 25,
- 7:09there is the sea vast and spacious. Um
- 7:13and if we're going to talk about the
- 7:14sea, then we got to talk about
- 7:15Leviathan. Now Psalm 104 names
- 7:18Leviathan. Okay. Uh so whereas Genesis
- 7:22chapter 1 is just going to say God made
- 7:24the great sea creatures. Psalm sorry
- 7:26Genesis Yeah. Genesis chapter 1 is just
- 7:29going to say that God made the great sea
- 7:30creatures. Psalm 104 is going to say
- 7:33there the ships go go to and fro in
- 7:36Leviathan which you form to frolic
- 7:39there. Uh Psalm 104 is going to fill in
- 7:42the gaps. Right? This is a paraphrase.
- 7:44So whereas Psalm 104 sorry whereas
- 7:47Genesis chapter 1 doesn't name the sea
- 7:50dragon, doesn't name the sea creature,
- 7:52Psalm 104 names it and gives detail.
- 7:56Okay. So again, Genesis 1 acts like a
- 8:00broad overview and then Psalm 104 and
- 8:02other places in the Bible begin to
- 8:04really fill in the gaps of our
- 8:06understanding. Now I need you to see
- 8:08this. There's an emphasis on water.
- 8:11There's an emphasis on Leviathan. Why?
- 8:13Well, because every single creation
- 8:16account in the Assyrian, Babylonian,
- 8:19Mesopotamian, or Canaanite, or even
- 8:22Egyptian world included a godlike
- 8:25figure, a deity that had to combat a
- 8:28chaos dragon that came up out of the sea
- 8:31and then tame the chaos of the sea. So
- 8:35the sea or the waters and the sea
- 8:39monsters or the chaos dragon that lives
- 8:41in those seas have to be dealt with in
- 8:45every other ancient neareastern uh
- 8:47mythological creation story. And so
- 8:51Genesis and Psalm 104 tell you right off
- 8:55the bat the world view that the authors
- 8:58are coming from. Okay? So this stuff is
- 9:01right here in Psalm 104. an emphasis on
- 9:04the seas, the waters, and Leviathan.
- 9:07Okay. Next thing I want you to see,
- 9:08verse 5, Psalm 104. He set the earth on
- 9:11its foundations. It can never be moved.
- 9:15Now, this verse right here is going to
- 9:17be one of the favorite verses for anyone
- 9:20who believes in flat earth. All right?
- 9:23Uh and again, the issue with people who
- 9:25believe in flat earth, A, they're crazy,
- 9:27but C, okay, A, they're crazy. B, they
- 9:31they know what the Bible says, but not
- 9:34what the Bible means. Okay, so again,
- 9:37literary context. The Bible is not to be
- 9:40taken literally, but literarily. Okay,
- 9:44not literally. The Bible doesn't
- 9:46literally mean that the earth can't be
- 9:48moved because they would say the earth
- 9:50can't spin. When science says that the
- 9:52earth is spinning, that can't be true
- 9:54because the Bible says it can never be
- 9:56moved. And when science says the earth
- 9:58is round, that doesn't work because the
- 10:00earth has foundations. Okay? Your house
- 10:02has a foundation. Buildings have a
- 10:04foundation. And foundations are, you
- 10:06guessed it, drum roll please,
- 10:09flat. So they believe that the earth is
- 10:11flat. Okay? This is a classic example of
- 10:15taking the Bible literally without
- 10:18regard for the genre of literature that
- 10:21you are reading. Okay? Psalm 104 is
- 10:24poetic. It's mythological. But if you
- 10:27read the newspaper the same way you read
- 10:30Harry Potter, then you're not putting on
- 10:32different interpretive lenses based on
- 10:35literary genre. You're just reading
- 10:37every literary genre the same. And a lot
- 10:39of people read the Bible that way. They
- 10:41are not reading Revelation different
- 10:42than they read Genesis different than
- 10:43they read the Psalms different than they
- 10:45read Daniel or different than they read
- 10:47Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Whereas
- 10:49every book of the Bible that I just
- 10:51named actually represents a different
- 10:52literary genre of literature. Okay? And
- 10:57so every literary genre has to be read
- 11:01differently in the same way that you
- 11:03don't read a contract the same way that
- 11:05you read poetry. You don't. I know that
- 11:08you don't. There's no way that you do.
- 11:09And you don't read Harry Potter the
- 11:11same. And some of you are like, I don't
- 11:13read Harry Potter at all. It's evil. I I
- 11:15got you. I got you. I got you. Calm
- 11:16down. you know, you don't read fiction
- 11:19the same way that you would read a
- 11:20dictionary, right? So, a lot of times we
- 11:23bring a lack of literary uh
- 11:26understanding or understanding of
- 11:29literary genre to the Bible and
- 11:32unfortunately we begin to interpret
- 11:34verses like Psalm 104:5 and come to flat
- 11:38earth conclusions when you don't need to
- 11:39come to flat earth conclusions. All
- 11:41right, I want you to see one more thing
- 11:43in verse 24. There's an emphasis on
- 11:45wisdom. Uh obviously uh Proverbs chapter
- 11:488 is going to go into large detail on
- 11:50how God used wisdom to actually create
- 11:53the cosmos. Says this, "How many are
- 11:55your works, Lord, in wisdom you made
- 11:57them all. The earth is full of your
- 12:00creatures. There is the sea vast and
- 12:02spacious." So this emphasis on wisdom.
- 12:04So Psalm 104 is chalk full. You could
- 12:08really understand the biblical worldview
- 12:10by looking at this psalm also. It is
- 12:12just beautiful. To get a poetic version
- 12:16of what we have in Genesis chapter 1 is
- 12:18just really, really, really, really
- 12:20cool. All right, let's look at Psalm 105
- 12:22and 106. We got a lot of nerdy nuggets.
- 12:24Okay, when we start looking at Psalm
- 12:26105, you'll begin to see that Psalm 105
- 12:29is all about Yahweh's faithfulness.
- 12:31Okay, so it's the story of Yahweh and
- 12:34Israel told from Yahweh's perspective.
- 12:37Psalm 106 is its mirrored pair. It's the
- 12:40faithlessness or the unfaithfulness of
- 12:44the people of Israel. So it is the story
- 12:47of Yahweh to Israel told from the
- 12:49people's perspective. So according to
- 12:51Yahweh, Yahweh's been faithful. He's
- 12:54come through time and time and time
- 12:55again. He's rescued them. He's delivered
- 12:57them. He's saved them. He's done all
- 12:59these mighty things. He's done all these
- 13:01amazing things. And then Psalm 106 is
- 13:04all about how the people have failed.
- 13:06They've stumbled. They've worshiped
- 13:08idols. They've done all kinds of things
- 13:09and and I'm going to kind of just
- 13:11highlight for you the juxtaposition
- 13:13between Yahweh's faithfulness and the
- 13:17people's faithlessness. Okay? Or the
- 13:19people's failures really. Uh so Psalm
- 13:22105, Yahweh's faithfulness. Psalm 106,
- 13:25the failures and lack of faithfulness of
- 13:29of the people. All right. So Psalm 105
- 13:32verse 5, remember the wonder he has
- 13:35done. So it's an acknowledge to the
- 13:37people. Hey, remember all the things
- 13:39that he's done. Okay, first of all, he
- 13:42remembers his covenant forever. That's
- 13:44verse eight. Um the covenant that he
- 13:46made with Abraham. So, it's going to
- 13:48start all the way with Abraham. Okay?
- 13:50And it's going to kind of recount all
- 13:51the things that God's done. Actually,
- 13:53I'm going to kind of give you an outline
- 13:55here. Uh verses 1 to 15 is going to be
- 13:58Yahweh's faithfulness to Abraham and the
- 13:59patriarchs. Then verses 16 to 25 is all
- 14:02about Yahweh's faithfulness to Joseph in
- 14:05Egypt and Jacob and the family that that
- 14:08God's going to create. And then verse 26
- 14:10to 36 is all about God's power and his
- 14:13faithfulness to Moses and the plagues of
- 14:16Egypt. And then verses 37 to 38 is all
- 14:19about Yahweh's faithfulness in the
- 14:20Exodus. And then verses 39 to 40 is all
- 14:23about Yahweh's faithfulness to lead and
- 14:25feed the people through the wilderness
- 14:27or while they were in the wilderness.
- 14:29And then verses 43 to 45 is all about
- 14:32Yahweh's faithfulness as the people are
- 14:35going to uh conquer the land of Canaan.
- 14:38Okay, so all about Yahweh's
- 14:40faithfulness. I went through Psalm 105
- 14:43and just began to highlight all the
- 14:45things that Yahweh did. Okay, so I'm
- 14:48just going to go through these really
- 14:49fast. Okay, Yahweh allowed no one to
- 14:51oppress them. That's verse 14. Verse 16,
- 14:54Yahweh called down famine on the land
- 14:56and destroyed all the supplies of food.
- 14:58Okay. Next, verse 17. And Yahweh sent a
- 15:01man before them, Joseph, sold as a
- 15:03slave. Okay. Verse 24. Yahweh made his
- 15:06people very fruitful. He made them too
- 15:08numerous for their foes. That means they
- 15:10increased in number. And while they were
- 15:12in Egypt, Yahweh sent Moses his servant.
- 15:14Verse 26. And Aaron whom he had chosen.
- 15:18Um uh verse 28. Yahweh sent darkness and
- 15:23made the land dark. Okay. Verse 29,
- 15:25Yahweh turned their water into blood.
- 15:27Okay. Uh verse 31, Yahweh spoke and
- 15:31there came swarms of flies. Verse 32,
- 15:33Yahweh turned their rain into hail with
- 15:37lightning throughout their land. Verse
- 15:3933, Yahweh struck down their vines and
- 15:41fig trees. Uh verse 34, Yahweh spoke and
- 15:46the locust came, grasshoppers without
- 15:48number. Okay. Verse 36, Yahweh struck
- 15:50down all the firstborn in the land. This
- 15:52this is all stuff that Yahweh did in the
- 15:55midst of the plagues. Okay. Uh verse 37,
- 15:58Yahweh brought out Israel laden with
- 16:00silver and gold. Verse 39, Yahweh spread
- 16:03out a cloud as a covering. Okay. Verse
- 16:0641, Yahweh opened the rock and water
- 16:08gushed out. It flowed like a river in
- 16:10the desert. Why? This is a theme. Okay.
- 16:14For he remembered his holy promise given
- 16:16to his servant Abraham. The theme that
- 16:18we're going to see in Psalm 105, then
- 16:21carried to Psalm 106, is that Yahweh
- 16:23remembers, but the people don't
- 16:24remember. Yahweh remembers to be
- 16:26faithful, but the people, because they
- 16:28forget, they are now unfaithful. Okay?
- 16:31So, remembering, having a good memory is
- 16:35the thing that prompts you to to be
- 16:37faithful. Remembering and faithfulness
- 16:40go together. Forgetting and
- 16:42unfaithfulness go together. And this is
- 16:44going to be, if you don't think this is
- 16:46about to be a timeless truth, it is
- 16:48because anytime God's people, that's me
- 16:51and you, have gone astray or have been
- 16:54unfaithful, it's because of our
- 16:56spiritual amnesia. You forgot what God
- 16:59delivered you from. You forgot what he
- 17:00rescued you from. You forgot who you
- 17:03used to be. You forgot all of his
- 17:05benefits and his miracles towards you.
- 17:07And all the things that you used to be
- 17:09grateful for, you've now taken for
- 17:10granted. And because you have amnesia,
- 17:13you have now gone astray. Astray and
- 17:16amnesia go together. Okay? All right.
- 17:19Yahweh brought out his people with
- 17:20rejoicing. That's verse 43. Verse 44.
- 17:23Yahweh gave them the lands of the
- 17:26nations. And why why did he do all this?
- 17:28Well, it culminates in the last verse of
- 17:31the psalm. Verse 45, that they might
- 17:33keep Yahweh's precepts and observe
- 17:36Yahweh's laws. What an epic conclusion.
- 17:39Why did God do all this? So the people
- 17:42could keep his precepts and observe his
- 17:44law. So that they could obey. Yahweh
- 17:47performed all these things. So that they
- 17:49could obey. Because in the Bible, the
- 17:52definition of grace is that Yahweh's
- 17:55provision happens before his
- 17:58requirements. Okay? If he would require
- 18:02you to do things first as a prerequisite
- 18:05for his salvation, that would be law.
- 18:07But he doesn't operate in law. He
- 18:08operates in grace. So he gives you a
- 18:11free gift and then requires
- 18:13righteousness as a response, not as a
- 18:15prerequisite. Okay? We have made any
- 18:18kind of discipline or righteousness
- 18:21legalism in today's culture. But it's
- 18:23not. Legalism is not about obeying God.
- 18:26It's about obeying God to earn God's
- 18:29salvation. But God outlines clearly in
- 18:31Psalm 105. God did. God did. God did.
- 18:34God did. God sent. God turned. God
- 18:37spoke. God struck down. God brought out.
- 18:40God spread out. God made his people
- 18:43fruitful. God sent a man named Joseph.
- 18:45God called down famine. God allowed them
- 18:47no one to oppress them. God remembered.
- 18:50God gave. God God
- 18:53did did did did did did did. Why? So
- 18:57that they might keep his precepts and
- 18:59observe his laws. So if you think that
- 19:02that's legalism, you're clearly not
- 19:05reading this. Well, it's God does. God
- 19:09does. God does. God does. God does. God
- 19:11does. God does. Now, God expects you to
- 19:14do. God does. God does. God does. God
- 19:16does. God does. You do. You do so that
- 19:18God can do would be legalism. But God
- 19:21doing everything and then asking you to
- 19:23play your part is not legalism. That's
- 19:26just a righteous response. That's a
- 19:27reasonable response. Family, the wait is
- 19:30over. for my brand new book, Crushing
- 19:33Chaos, is out now and available
- 19:36everywhere books are sold literally
- 19:39today. I walked into a Barnes & Noble
- 19:42and I signed a bunch of copies at a
- 19:44physical location. So, you can grab this
- 19:47book at a physical Barnes & Noble or you
- 19:50can go to a Books a Million or Amazon or
- 19:52anywhere books are sold and grab a copy.
- 19:56If you enjoy reading the Bible from an
- 19:59ancient perspective, if you understand
- 20:01that the beauty of scripture is actually
- 20:03knowing it in context, then you'll love
- 20:06this book. And if there's any chaos in
- 20:09your personal life, I think that reading
- 20:11the Bible from an ancient perspective
- 20:14can actually help to crush the chaos in
- 20:16your life. I think this book is going to
- 20:18be a New York Times bestseller. I really
- 20:20do. I think we wrote a good one. I think
- 20:22you should get a copy today. All right,
- 20:25back to the episode. Uh, all right.
- 20:27Psalm 106, okay, is the opposite. Okay,
- 20:31the people, verse 6, we have sinned even
- 20:34as our ancestors did. We have done wrong
- 20:36and acted wickedly. Okay, verse seven,
- 20:39like halfway through verse 7, they did
- 20:42not remember your many kindnesses. First
- 20:46of all, kindnesses is a great word. Your
- 20:48many kindnesses, they did not remember.
- 20:51Okay. Why did they go astray? Because
- 20:55they did not remember. I need us to
- 20:57bring this into our timeless truth
- 20:58today. Anytime we forget what God has
- 21:02done, anytime we don't remember his
- 21:04kindnesses towards us, we are in we are
- 21:09at risk of going astray. So verse 13,
- 21:14but they soon forgot. And now the psalm
- 21:17is going to outline what the people did.
- 21:19Okay. Verse 24, they despised. Okay, so
- 21:22remember all those things God did, okay?
- 21:24God brought out, God provided, God
- 21:26delivered, God raised up Joseph, God,
- 21:28all that stuff God did in Psalm 105.
- 21:31Well, think about what all the people
- 21:32did in Psalm 106. Here we go. They
- 21:34despised the pleasant land. That's verse
- 21:3624. They did not believe his Yahweh's
- 21:39promise. Verse 25, uh, sorry, that was
- 21:42verse 24. Verse 25, they grumbled. Verse
- 21:4528, they yolked themselves together to
- 21:48ba ba all. Verse 29, they aroused the
- 21:51Lord's anger. Okay. Verse 33, they
- 21:53rebelled against the spirit of God.
- 21:55Verse 34, they did not destroy the
- 21:57peoples as the Lord had commanded them.
- 22:00Verse 35, but they mingled with the
- 22:02nations, and they adopted their customs.
- 22:05Verse 36, they worshiped their idols
- 22:08which became a snare to them. Verse 37,
- 22:10they sacrificed their sons and their
- 22:12daughters to false gods. Verse 38, they
- 22:14shed innocent blood. Verse 39, they
- 22:17defiled themselves. Okay. Verse 43, many
- 22:21times Yahweh delivered them, but they
- 22:25were bent on rebellion and they wasted
- 22:28away in their sin. And how does it all
- 22:31end? Here we go. Save us, Lord our God,
- 22:35and gather us from the nations that we
- 22:37may give thanks to your holy name and
- 22:39glorify
- 22:41in glor in glory in your praise. Praise
- 22:44be to Yahweh, the God of Israel. From
- 22:47everlasting to everlasting, let all the
- 22:49people say, "Amen. Praise the Lord." And
- 22:52that is the end of book four. Okay, that
- 22:55closes book four. Okay, what an epic way
- 22:57to close the fourth book of the Psalms,
- 23:00which leads us right into our timeless
- 23:02truth that God is faithful even in the
- 23:06middle of our failure. Man, if that's
- 23:08not true, if if that's not the testimony
- 23:11of your life, I think you're lying. that
- 23:14God delivered. God provided. God
- 23:17exceeded all expectations. God came
- 23:19through. But you went after idols. You
- 23:23went astray. You forgot. He remembered.
- 23:26You forgot. He was faithful. You were
- 23:29faithless. God succeeded. You failed.
- 23:32And we need to have always before us.
- 23:36Man, I am constantly in violation of
- 23:39God's covenant. He is constantly pouring
- 23:42out grace on me. Like like this is never
- 23:46gonna be a 50-50 relationship. I am
- 23:48always gonna need God to make up for my
- 23:52lack. And I need to keep an account of
- 23:56all the things he's done because I need
- 23:59to stop forgetting all the ways that
- 24:01he's made and all the things that he's
- 24:03provided. Actually, I don't do this
- 24:06often, but I actually want to give some
- 24:08homework today for our timeless truth. I
- 24:10want you to just get a notebook page and
- 24:13I just want you to just write out all
- 24:15the things that God's done. And and and
- 24:17the psalmist starts with Abraham. He
- 24:19goes back hundreds of years and he goes
- 24:21through history and he just recounts the
- 24:24story of how faithful Yahweh's been all
- 24:26throughout every season. You were
- 24:28faithful to Abraham. You were faithful
- 24:29with the patriarchs. You're faithful
- 24:30with Joseph. You're faithful with Jacob.
- 24:32You're faithful with Moses. You're
- 24:33faithful in the plagues. You're faithful
- 24:35in the Exodus. You're faithful through
- 24:36the wilderness. You were faithful
- 24:38through with Joshua in the conquest. Uh
- 24:40he just goes through hundreds and
- 24:41hundreds of years. How about this? Can
- 24:42you just go back through the last 10
- 24:44years of your life and just oh God, God
- 24:47rescued us? Like whatever the scenarios
- 24:50are, can you get as detailed as you can?
- 24:52I actually want to challenge you. Could
- 24:54you write a psalm of how faithful God
- 24:56has been? It's one thing to read Psalm
- 24:59105 and Psalm 106 and see it side by
- 25:02side and and go, "Oh, that was history."
- 25:05But it it would be powerful if you just
- 25:07got two pages in your notebook and you
- 25:09just wrote out how faithful God has been
- 25:11and then how faithless you've been.
- 25:13Could you maybe recreate Psalm 105 and
- 25:15Psalm 106 for yourself? And man, I bet
- 25:18you by the time you get down to the end
- 25:20of your own personal Psalm 106, I I I'd
- 25:23be shocked if if there aren't tears, you
- 25:25know, uh, filling your cheeks, I I I'd
- 25:28be shocked if you're not constantly or
- 25:30or intimately aware that, man, God's
- 25:33been so kind. He's been so gracious. And
- 25:36God, help me to not forget how awesome
- 25:39you've been and all of your benefits
- 25:41towards me. That's our Thomas Truth for
- 25:44the day. Tomorrow, we're going to start
- 25:46book five. Can you believe it? Four
- 25:48books of the Psalms down, one book to
- 25:50go. Obviously, as you can tell, uh, book
- 25:54five of the Psalms is going to start at
- 25:56107. It's going to go all the way to
- 25:58150. Tomorrow, we're just going to look
- 26:00at Psalm 107, 108, and 109. The first
- 26:03three Psalms of the fifth book of the
- 26:06Psalms. I'm so excited that we get to
- 26:08study the Bible together. This year, we
- 26:10got day 288 tomorrow. Same place, same
- 26:13time. Can't wait to see you. I love you.
