- 0:24family. Welcome to day 280. We got
- 0:27Psalms 85 and 86 to cover today. Only
- 0:31two Psalms. However, I am going to
- 0:33backtrack a little bit and cover some
- 0:35content from Psalm 82, which was on
- 0:38yesterday's reading. So, if you are new
- 0:41to the podcast, every single day I
- 0:43tackle context clues and I move into
- 0:45nerdy nuggets. And then I always leave
- 0:46off the episode on a timeless truth. If
- 0:49you have not done the reading yet, how
- 0:51about you stop, pause, stop the video,
- 0:54pause the audio, go do the reading, read
- 0:56Psalm 85 and Psalm 86, cuz that's
- 1:01primarily what we're going to jump into
- 1:02today. Now, I I've got to kind of make
- 1:05up for some things I did not say
- 1:07yesterday. Um, I just kind of watched
- 1:10the episode and realized, ah, there are
- 1:12some really, really, really some huge
- 1:14things about Psalm 82 that I think that
- 1:16we should really, really, really talk
- 1:18about. And so, I'm going to backtrack
- 1:20just a little bit, but if you've done
- 1:22the reading for today, let's jump right
- 1:24in. All right. Psalm 85. Okay, this is a
- 1:27corporate lament over Jerusalem. Now, we
- 1:30have seen tons of these here in book
- 1:34three of the Psalms. Okay. Corporate
- 1:36laments over Jerusalem. So as you read
- 1:40through Psalm 85 today, you see you'd
- 1:43see nothing new, right? Uh first line,
- 1:46you Lord showed favor to your land. You
- 1:49restored the fortunes of Jacob. You
- 1:51forgave the iniquity of your people and
- 1:53covered all their sins. You set aside
- 1:55all your wrath and turned from your
- 1:58fierce anger. Okay, so the first three
- 2:00verses are all past tense and then
- 2:02things are going to shift. Restore us
- 2:04again, God, our savior, and put away
- 2:06your displeasure towards us. Will you be
- 2:08angry with us forever? That is a
- 2:11repeating theme all throughout these
- 2:13psalms. Will you be angry with us
- 2:15forever? Will you prolong your anger
- 2:17through all generations? Will you not
- 2:20revive us again that your people may
- 2:22rejoice in you? Show us your unfailing
- 2:24love, Lord, and grant us your salvation.
- 2:27Okay, so you get the gist. Okay, this is
- 2:29a corporate lament over the fall of
- 2:32Jerusalem. And and that is the context
- 2:35for this psalm. Okay, the people are
- 2:38grieving. They're mourning. Now, pretty
- 2:40much the context for book three as a
- 2:45whole, right? This collection of psalms
- 2:48uh that we know as book three. The
- 2:50context has been pretty much the same
- 2:53throughout all the psalms in book three.
- 2:55The people are returning back from
- 2:57exile. There is mourning, there's
- 2:59lament, there is uh frustration. Uh
- 3:03there's all kinds of emotions underneath
- 3:05the surface of these psalms. Like really
- 3:07good human emotions that I'm glad that
- 3:09we've gotten a chance to dive into.
- 3:10Okay, Psalm 86. What's the context? This
- 3:13is the only Psalm of David in book
- 3:16three. So, it's it it can feel a little
- 3:18bit out of place to be totally honest.
- 3:20Um but this is a psalm of individual
- 3:22lament. Okay? and psalms of lament are
- 3:27definitely fitting for book three. Okay,
- 3:30so we've got a psalm of corporate lament
- 3:32for Psalm 85, a psalm of individual
- 3:34lament for Psalm 86. And before we dive
- 3:37into any nerdy nuggets for Psalm 85 or
- 3:4086, I now just want to go back to Psalm
- 3:4382. All right, I'm going to go back to
- 3:45Psalm 82. It says this, we covered this
- 3:47a couple days ago, but I just don't feel
- 3:49like we covered it in depth enough. And
- 3:51I'm going to try to do this really,
- 3:52really quick because I think that Psalm
- 3:5482 is really, really, really important.
- 3:56And I want to say this, most people
- 3:58don't realize that we record episodes
- 4:01really, really far in advance. And um
- 4:03it's rare that I tell people kind of
- 4:05what's going on like in present day cuz
- 4:08I don't want people to tie the episodes
- 4:10to when they were filmed. I don't want
- 4:13them to be bound to a date or anything
- 4:14like that. But in the United States of
- 4:16America, yet again, right now, we're
- 4:18just dealing with a lot of political
- 4:20upheaval, political division, and people
- 4:25tend to silo themselves into political
- 4:28parties. So, the political talking
- 4:30points become the frameworks for
- 4:33everything that people say or or how
- 4:35people think. And I just think Psalm 82,
- 4:37I feel like I missed an opportunity
- 4:38yesterday because Psalm 82 gives us such
- 4:41a divine perspective on human issues
- 4:45that I think is really really important.
- 4:46So says this, God has taken his place in
- 4:49the divine counsel. Okay, so remember
- 4:52who's the divine council? I believe that
- 4:54the divine council are angelic uh beings
- 4:58are spiritual beings that God initially
- 5:01set up over the nations and they've
- 5:02rebelled against him. So here we go. In
- 5:04the midst of the gods, he holds
- 5:07judgment. So God, uppercase G, has taken
- 5:10his place in the divine counsel. Okay?
- 5:14In the midst of the gods, okay? Yahweh
- 5:18holds judgment. He holds judgment. So,
- 5:20so God, which is not a name, it's a
- 5:23title. So Yahweh, okay, the God of gods,
- 5:27the king of kings, the lord of lords,
- 5:30which means there are other kings, there
- 5:31are other lords, there are other gods,
- 5:33okay, Yahweh is is taking his place in
- 5:37the council of all the gods and and he
- 5:40has something judgmental to say. He
- 5:43wants to hold judgment. How long would
- 5:45you judge unjustly? Okay. And show
- 5:47partiality to the wicked. Give justice
- 5:50to the weak and the orphan. Maintain the
- 5:52right of the lowly and the destitute.
- 5:53Rescue the weak and the needy. Deliver
- 5:55them from the hand of the wicked. Okay.
- 5:59They neither have knowledge nor
- 6:00understanding. They walk around in
- 6:02darkness. All the foundations of the
- 6:03earth are shaken. I say you are gods,
- 6:06children of the most high. Okay. So
- 6:07there's another clue. So they are c
- 6:09they're first called the divine counsel,
- 6:11then they're called gods. Now they're
- 6:13called children of the most high. All of
- 6:15you nevertheless you shall die like
- 6:17mortals. So now God is saying, "You're
- 6:19going to you're going to die just like
- 6:21humans." Okay? And fall like any prince.
- 6:24So now there's another word, prince.
- 6:26Okay? Rise up, oh God, judge the earth.
- 6:29That word for rise up actually in Hebrew
- 6:31is resurrect. Okay? So So resurrect.
- 6:35Okay? Rise up, oh God, judge the earth,
- 6:37for all the nations belong to you. All
- 6:40the nations belong to you. Okay? Now, in
- 6:42order to understand Psalm 82, we really
- 6:45have to understand Deuteronomy 32. Okay?
- 6:47And so we're going to go back to
- 6:48Deuteronomy 32 and get context for Psalm
- 6:5182. So in Psalm 82, God is sitting down.
- 6:54In his heart, I'm such in a habit of
- 6:56saying God. However, God is not a good
- 6:59word for God because there are many
- 7:02gods. Okay? And remember, the Bible is
- 7:04not espousing monotheistic worldview
- 7:08where there's only one God. It's
- 7:09espousing a monolous worldview where we
- 7:12are loyal to one God, where we worship
- 7:14one God. Okay? There are many gods in
- 7:17the Bible. It's clear there are many
- 7:18gods. Okay. Psalm 82 is making it known.
- 7:22God Yahweh, the one true God, takes his
- 7:24place in the divine council. Who's in
- 7:26that council? Many gods. And what are
- 7:29those many gods going to be called?
- 7:30They're going to be called children of
- 7:31the most high. And they're also going to
- 7:33be called princes. Okay? But they're
- 7:35going to die like mortals. There's a lot
- 7:36of clues. Okay? Deuteronomy 32, what
- 7:40here's what it says. says, "When the
- 7:42most high, okay, when Yahweh, when when
- 7:45the the God of the universe aortioned
- 7:48the nations, okay, remember in Psalm 82,
- 7:51the nations, okay, the way that the
- 7:54psalm ends is that the nations are going
- 7:55to belong to Yahweh." Says, when he
- 7:58aortioned the nations, when he divided
- 8:00humankind, okay, when did God aortion
- 8:02the nations? When did he divide
- 8:04humankind? Well, a lot of scholars,
- 8:06including Dr. Michael Heiser would say
- 8:09that this is what happens at the tower
- 8:11of babel that God divided humankind. He
- 8:15aortioned the nations. Okay, if you go
- 8:17back after the tower of babel, we are
- 8:20going to get a table of nations. Okay,
- 8:22and so God, okay, divided humankind, he
- 8:26fixed the boundaries of the peoples
- 8:28according to the number of the gods.
- 8:31Okay, so God creates nations based on
- 8:34how many gods there are. The Lord's own
- 8:37portion was his people. And God then
- 8:41Yahweh took Israel as his. And what does
- 8:45God do then? Right after the Tower of
- 8:47Babel, he goes to find Abram and Sarai
- 8:50who can't get pregnant. Perfect. God's
- 8:53going to start a nation through two
- 8:56infertile people because nobody's going
- 8:58to be able to say that it wasn't Yahweh
- 9:01who did it. They're actually perfect. I
- 9:04could preach that all day long. what
- 9:06seemed like a a something that would
- 9:09disqualify them actually qualified them
- 9:12cuz God was looking for someone who
- 9:14couldn't have kids on their own. That is
- 9:16just too good, man. Okay. So, what does
- 9:19Deuteronomy 32 teach us? Now when God
- 9:21divided humankind, okay, when he
- 9:23separated the languages, divided
- 9:25humankind, gave boundaries to people,
- 9:27created nations, he did it according to
- 9:30the number of the gods so that these
- 9:34gods could be governing princes and
- 9:37principalities over the nations. Okay.
- 9:40So now we get to Daniel chapter 10. This
- 9:42is going to help us to create like a
- 9:45biblical worldview for powers,
- 9:48principalities, politics, kings, queens,
- 9:51all this. Okay? He said to me, "Do not
- 9:54fear Daniel." This is Daniel 10:12. "Do
- 9:56not fear Daniel, for from the first day
- 9:59you set your mind to gain understanding
- 10:01and to humble yourself before God. Your
- 10:03words have been heard, and I have come
- 10:05because of your words." But the prince,
- 10:08this is good, the prince of the kingdom
- 10:11of Persia. Who's the prince of the
- 10:14kingdom of Persia? The God who was set
- 10:16up to govern as prince over Persia by
- 10:20Yahweh himself in Deuteronomy chapter
- 10:2332. Well, recounted in Deuteronomy
- 10:25chapter 32, but then what it actually
- 10:29happened in Genesis after the Tower of
- 10:30Babel. Okay, so the prince of the king
- 10:33of Persia is a real spiritual being. So
- 10:36a lot of times what can happen in our
- 10:39nation and in many nations people begin
- 10:41to put their hope in politics. But the
- 10:44Bible gives us a worldview that whoever
- 10:46your favorite politician is. Guess what?
- 10:49There are puppet strings attached to
- 10:50those politicians. And those politicians
- 10:53actually work for spiritual beings that
- 10:56have been assigned to every nation.
- 10:59Okay? So there's a spiritual being that
- 11:03governs over Persia. There's a spiritual
- 11:05being that governs over Russia. There's
- 11:09a spiritual God. There's a God. There's
- 11:12a lowercase G God. There's a prince of
- 11:14the air. There's a principality that
- 11:17governs over Italy that governs over
- 11:21America, that governs o that governs
- 11:24over Canada, over Mexico. And in Psalm
- 11:2782, Yahweh is upset with these gods cuz
- 11:31instead of teaching the people about
- 11:35him, they've convinced the people to
- 11:38worship them. So, and God says, "You are
- 11:41God's children of the most high." This
- 11:43is Psalm 32. Uh, sorry, not Psalm 32.
- 11:47Psalm 82 SAYS, "YOU'RE MY CHILDREN. YOU
- 11:50KNOW WHAT? Since since you don't want to
- 11:53act like my children, I am going to
- 11:55cause Abraham and Sarah to have children
- 11:59through the power of the Holy Spirit.
- 12:01Okay, this is all through the New
- 12:04Testament because the reason that Paul
- 12:07is so adamant about going on missionary
- 12:09journeys is because he wants the nations
- 12:13because see how Psalm 82 ends, rise up,
- 12:16oh God, resurrect, oh God, judge the
- 12:20earth for all the nations belong to you.
- 12:23You gave the nations to these gods. You
- 12:26gave the nations to these principalities
- 12:29and powers. They've done a terrible job.
- 12:32They've caused when me and my wife went
- 12:34to Thailand, literally the phrase right
- 12:36at the airport to be tied to be
- 12:38Buddhist. Okay? I don't think Buddha is
- 12:40a figment of their imagination. I think
- 12:42Buddha is the governing principality,
- 12:46the governing God, lowercase G, God,
- 12:49that was set up by Yahweh to reflect his
- 12:53glory, to teach people about his ways.
- 12:57and Buddha's done a terrible job. So now
- 13:00the psalmist is saying, "Rise up, oh
- 13:02God. Judge the earth for all the nations
- 13:05belong to you." Thailand doesn't belong
- 13:07to Buddha. It belongs to God. Okay? So
- 13:11we have to realize we battle NOT AGAINST
- 13:13FLESH AND BLOOD, but against powers and
- 13:16principalities, rulers in high places.
- 13:18And oftentimes, anytime something
- 13:21happens, we have this temptation to
- 13:24immediately, well, do you see it like a
- 13:26liberal? Do you see it like a
- 13:27conservative? And honestly, God's people
- 13:31have to actually rise up AND SAY, "NO,
- 13:33NO, NO. I I don't see it according to
- 13:35any of these parties cuz all these
- 13:37parties are evil." And they're all being
- 13:39deeply influenced
- 13:42by these these rogue children of God,
- 13:46these spiritual beings. this divine
- 13:49council that God is in the midst of
- 13:51judging and and there is no political
- 13:54party that is just perfect or that
- 13:57aligns perfectly with what the Bible
- 14:00says. It's it's not possible. Okay.
- 14:03There's a governing prince and
- 14:05principality over America. And what
- 14:08should our prayer be as Christians? Rise
- 14:10up. Resurrect, oh God. Judge the earth
- 14:14because all the nations belong to you,
- 14:17Lord God. America belongs to you. This
- 14:20country belongs to you. We're not too
- 14:22far gone, God. Yeah. Oh, man. We we we
- 14:26have been manipulated
- 14:28by spiritual beings that have that have
- 14:31gotten us completely
- 14:34in divisive patterns against each other.
- 14:37But Lord, we're your people. I'm not on
- 14:40the right. I'm not on the left. I belong
- 14:42to God. I'm God's I'm I'm I'm God's
- 14:46property. And so often what begins to
- 14:49happen anytime something happens in the
- 14:52media that gets all of our attention is
- 14:54it's easy to forget a Psalm 82,
- 14:57Deuteronomy 32, Daniel 10 perspective.
- 15:01Because what's happening with Daniel is
- 15:03that Daniel has all the reason to just
- 15:07be upset with Persia and you know the
- 15:10the actual king of Persia. But what does
- 15:14Gabriel tell him? He says, "No, I had to
- 15:17war against the prince of the kingdom of
- 15:19Persia. Don't get it twisted. Don't make
- 15:21it seem like this is just flesh and
- 15:23blood evil and have come to help you
- 15:25understand what is to happen." And he
- 15:26what does he say? Michael, one of the
- 15:29chief princes. So, so here we go. An
- 15:32archangel is called a prince, which ties
- 15:35all this together. Okay, that how we
- 15:38should interpret Psalm 82 is that these
- 15:40are not human rulers. I kind of gave you
- 15:43a bunch of options yesterday, okay? That
- 15:45these are not just human judges and
- 15:47rulers. These are not p just pagan gods.
- 15:50These are spiritual forces that oversee
- 15:52nations. And because they have the power
- 15:55to oversee nations, they have set up
- 15:58pagan gods and they manipulate political
- 16:00systems. And Daniel, Gabriel is saying
- 16:04to Daniel, "Hey, I know all your eyes
- 16:07can see is that there's this king, but I
- 16:10want to show you what human eyes can't
- 16:13see. that there's a war happening in the
- 16:16heavenly realms between Michael the
- 16:19prince Michael and the prince of Persia
- 16:23who we don't even need to say his name
- 16:25cuz he's not relevant but he is a he is
- 16:27a spiritual force that oversees nations
- 16:31who's been set up by God to oversee the
- 16:33nations and has done a terrible job
- 16:36overseeing the nations and one day God
- 16:39is going to judge all of these sons of
- 16:43God that have rebelled against him and
- 16:45God is going to claim the nations again
- 16:48as his inheritance. This is why when
- 16:51Paul is preaching the gospel, he's
- 16:53saying Jesus has resurrected and what
- 16:55what does the resurrection mean? That
- 16:57all the nations can now be brought back
- 17:01to Yahweh. That God's promise to Abraham
- 17:05was, "All right, Abraham, I've given the
- 17:08other nations to these gods. You are
- 17:11going to be set apart. And what I'm
- 17:13going to do, Abraham, is you're going to
- 17:16have a child. And and through you, all
- 17:19these nations are going to be blessed.
- 17:21You see that? I'm going to separate you
- 17:24so that you could be mine. But the
- 17:26ultimate goal is that through you, all
- 17:29the nations will be blessed. And how
- 17:30does that happen? Through the Messiah.
- 17:34His name is Jesus. Through Jesus, all
- 17:37the nations are blessed. So Paul sees it
- 17:39as his mission to bring the gospel to
- 17:43all these nations because these nations
- 17:46have been under the corrupt leadership
- 17:48of spiritual powers and forces of
- 17:51wickedness. And there's all there's tons
- 17:54of other verses that support this
- 17:56worldview, by the way, but Psalm 82 and
- 17:59Deuteronomy 32 and Daniel 10 are the
- 18:01three passages that really support this
- 18:04worldview. And this is huge. And I think
- 18:07it's a good reminder to anyone who
- 18:09thinks that progressive ideas or or
- 18:14conservative ideas are the solution.
- 18:16Biblical ideas ARE THE SOLUTION.
- 18:18BIBLICAL IDEAS ARE THE SOLUTION. THE
- 18:20gospel of Jesus Christ is the solution.
- 18:22The church of Jesus Christ is the hope
- 18:24of the world. All right. Let me say a
- 18:27couple of things about Psalm 85 and 86
- 18:29since that's actually what's been
- 18:30assigned for today's reading. Okay. I
- 18:32hope that my going through Psalm 82
- 18:37helpful. Family, the wait is over. My
- 18:40brand new book, Crushing Chaos, is out
- 18:43now and available everywhere books are
- 18:46sold literally today. I walked into a
- 18:50Barnes & Noble and I signed a bunch of
- 18:52copies at a physical location. So, you
- 18:55can grab this book at a physical Barnes
- 18:57& Noble or you can go to a Books a
- 18:59Million or Amazon or anywhere books are
- 19:03sold and grab a copy. If you enjoy
- 19:06reading the Bible from an ancient
- 19:08perspective, if you understand that the
- 19:11beauty of scripture is actually knowing
- 19:12it in context, then you'll love this
- 19:15book. And if there's any chaos in your
- 19:18personal life, I think that reading the
- 19:20Bible from an ancient perspective can
- 19:23actually help to crush the chaos in your
- 19:25life. I think this book is going to be a
- 19:27New York Times bestseller. I really do.
- 19:29I think we wrote a good one. I think you
- 19:31should get a copy today. All right, back
- 19:34to the episode. Here we go. Uh Psalm 85,
- 19:38we should be 100% familiar with at this
- 19:40point. Okay, this psalm is lamenting the
- 19:42fall of Jerusalem. It has a structure.
- 19:44Verses 1-3, recounting Yahweh's
- 19:46forgiveness in the past. Verses 4-7,
- 19:49crying out for restoration in relent for
- 19:52God to relent on anger. Okay. Verses
- 19:548-9, listening for Yahweh to speak an
- 19:57answer. And then verses 10 through13,
- 20:00declaring in faith that God is steadfast
- 20:02in his love and faithfulness. So 1
- 20:05through 3, 4- 7, 8- 9, 10 through13.
- 20:09This psalm is literally portioned out in
- 20:12four kind of ding ding ding ding like
- 20:15four chunks. Okay, helpful to understand
- 20:17that. I think that's a nerdy nugget that
- 20:19will help you to interpret the psalm.
- 20:21Well, Psalm 86 is a psalm of lament and
- 20:24the entire psalm is actually a kayazm.
- 20:28Okay, which is common for lament
- 20:30literature. Okay. So, a kayazm is going
- 20:32to give you a b a. Okay. So, it's like a
- 20:35sandwich. Okay. The two things on the
- 20:37outside are going to mirror each other
- 20:39and whatever's on the inside is actually
- 20:41the buried treasure. Okay. So, A is
- 20:44going to be what's going to happen is
- 20:46verses 1-7 we're going to get problem,
- 20:48lament, complaint. And then at the end
- 20:51of the psalm, Psalm 14 to 17, we're
- 20:53going to get problem, lament, complaint.
- 20:56But then right there in the middle,
- 20:57verses 8 through13, David is going to
- 20:59praise and thank Yahweh. And that kayazm
- 21:03helps you to interpret what's going on
- 21:06in this psalm of lament. Which leads us
- 21:08right into our timeless truth. Because
- 21:10here's what you need to know about
- 21:11kayazms. In an eastern worldview, you
- 21:15always bury the most important thing in
- 21:18the center of the kayazm because it's
- 21:20always the buried truth that is the
- 21:23treasure. In a western world, we make
- 21:25the, you know, we make the most
- 21:27important thing our thesis statement.
- 21:29But in a in a eastern world, you make it
- 21:31the center of your kayazm because by
- 21:34unearthing it by digging it up, you find
- 21:37the buried treasure. And that gives it
- 21:39it gets into a Thomas truth because hope
- 21:42and comfort are always buried. Buried
- 21:46and sandwiched in between what? Pain,
- 21:49lament, and complaining. And that's just
- 21:52life. Recently, I was in Columbus,
- 21:54Mississippi, and uh the one of the men,
- 21:58one of the great guys that that uh
- 22:00hosted me while I was there, I found out
- 22:02that his 21 or 22-year-old son had died
- 22:06last year. And he said, you know, he
- 22:08said, uh, me and my wife were in the
- 22:10biggest season of grief and mourning
- 22:12ever in our life. And he said, but
- 22:15comfort is there if you want it. said,
- 22:16"There's a lot of people who went
- 22:18through what me and my wife went through
- 22:19with losing a child who they've made up
- 22:22in their mind they don't want to be
- 22:23comforted. They they they'd rather drink
- 22:25or they want alcohol. They'd rather
- 22:27escape." He said, "We went through
- 22:29unfathomable loss, losing a child. I
- 22:32don't want to rank pain, but that's got
- 22:35to be top five." I mean, just that's
- 22:37unfathomable. And he said, "I promise
- 22:40you if you are looking for comfort,
- 22:43you'll find it. but if you're not
- 22:46looking for it, you won't find it. And
- 22:48he's like, the reality is that we
- 22:50minister to a lot of people who have
- 22:51lost children and they don't want to be
- 22:54comforted. And and I love that that
- 22:57comfort is actually the center of the
- 22:59kayazm cuz it's the buried treasure.
- 23:02Comfort is something that you're always
- 23:03going to have to dig up. You're gonna
- 23:06have to unearth it. You're gonna have to
- 23:07go go looking for it. It's not just
- 23:09going to automatically find you. And uh
- 23:11I wrote out kind of a a Thomas truth for
- 23:14the day. One of the good things that I
- 23:15love about these psalms of lament is
- 23:17they honestly portray the suffering and
- 23:18pain that causes the lament. And because
- 23:20of the nature of the kayazm they do all
- 23:23of this twice. Greater space is given to
- 23:26the pain because pain has a right to be
- 23:29heard. They oppose these psalms of
- 23:31lament oppose the idea that we should
- 23:34suffer in silence. Christianity is not
- 23:37stoicism. I need you to hear that again.
- 23:40Christianity is not stoicism. We are
- 23:43broken people and God wants to hear us
- 23:45tell him about our brokenness. He is
- 23:49concerned with our pain. That's how
- 23:51compassionate and amazing God is. This
- 23:53reminds me, you, it should remind all of
- 23:57us of Romans 8 verse 26 to 28 where Paul
- 24:01tells us that the spirit hears our
- 24:03groans, hears our cries of pain,
- 24:06interprets them, and intercedes for us
- 24:09with the father. But even though the the
- 24:11psalms give voice to pain, even though
- 24:13they give space to suffering, even
- 24:15though they legitimize our cry for help,
- 24:17they do not give that pain the focus. At
- 24:20the heart of these poems, at the heart
- 24:23of these songs of lament sits Yahweh
- 24:25himself. It is in the midst of pain, in
- 24:29the center of the kayazm that God comes
- 24:31into focus. It is in suffering that we
- 24:35are meant to look beyond and see God's
- 24:38face. And that's my prayer for you
- 24:41today. If you're in mourning, if you're
- 24:43in suffering, maybe you're in mourning
- 24:45or you're lamenting because of things
- 24:46happening in our country. And I promise
- 24:49the God of comfort needs to come into
- 24:51focus. Whatever else wants your
- 24:53attention, I promise you that the only
- 24:56thing that is going to heal America, the
- 24:58only thing that is going to bring hope
- 24:59to our nation is the word of God, the
- 25:02presence of God, the person of Jesus,
- 25:04and his amazing bride called the church.
- 25:07There is no other organization that has
- 25:09solutions to what we face. But God has
- 25:12solutions, and the nations belong to
- 25:14him. I hope that today's episode was
