Full transcript
- 0:00You have studied English for months. You
- 0:02have learned words, grammar rules, and
- 0:05watched hundreds of English videos.
- 0:08But, there is one problem.
- 0:10You still don't trust yourself when you
- 0:12speak English. You start a sentence,
- 0:15doubt your grammar, stop, translate
- 0:18again, and lose your confidence.
- 0:20But, what if you could break this habit
- 0:22in just 7 days?
- 0:24Not by memorizing thousands of new
- 0:26English words, but by training your
- 0:29brain and mouth to work together.
- 0:32Welcome to day one of your 7-day English
- 0:35fluency challenge here on English Go
- 0:37podcast.
- 0:38And from today, we are going to build
- 0:40your English speaking confidence step by
- 0:43step.
- 0:44You do not need a notebook full of
- 0:46grammar rules today.
- 0:48You do not need to remember hundreds of
- 0:50new words.
- 0:52You do not even need perfect English.
- 0:54Sit somewhere you feel relaxed.
- 0:57Maybe you are watching this video in
- 0:59your bedroom, on a bus, during a study
- 1:02break, or with a cup of tea beside you.
- 1:05Wherever you are, this is your little
- 1:07English space for today.
- 1:09We are going to keep it simple, useful,
- 1:12and real.
- 1:13So, today in this video, we are going to
- 1:16help you start speaking about yourself
- 1:18using very simple English.
- 1:21First, you will learn how to make small
- 1:23and easy sentences.
- 1:25Then, we will connect those sentences so
- 1:28they sound more natural when you speak.
- 1:30After that, we will do a short shadowing
- 1:32practice to train your mouth and help
- 1:34you speak more smoothly.
- 1:36And then, I will give you a simple
- 1:38speaking challenge that you can do by
- 1:40yourself. So, [sighs]
- 1:42stay with me until the end of this video
- 1:44because you don't have to miss any
- 1:46important part.
- 1:47But, before we speak, I want you to
- 1:50remind you something.
- 1:51Fluency is not the same as speaking
- 1:54fast.
- 1:55If you speak very fast, but cannot
- 1:57understand you, that is not useful
- 2:00communication. And if you speak slowly,
- 2:02but your message is clear, that is
- 2:05already real communication.
- 2:07So, today, forget about sounding like a
- 2:10movie character.
- 2:11Your goal is much smaller.
- 2:14Say what you mean and keep going.
- 2:16Use the simple English you already have.
- 2:19Let us begin with something you already
- 2:21know, your own life.
- 2:24Your life is actually a very good
- 2:26English lesson, because you do not have
- 2:28to invent the ideas.
- 2:30You already know where you live.
- 2:32You know what you study, or what work
- 2:34you do.
- 2:36You know what you eat, what you watch,
- 2:38what you enjoy, and what you want to
- 2:41improve.
- 2:42So, instead of searching for difficult
- 2:44topics, we will start with something
- 2:46very close to you.
- 2:48Take a quiet breath and say this slowly.
- 2:51My name is
- 2:54Pause for a moment and finish the
- 2:56sentence.
- 2:58Maybe you said your real name.
- 3:00Good. Now, try
- 3:02I live in
- 3:04Finish it.
- 3:05Then, say
- 3:07I am learning English because
- 3:10Do not worry if your sentence is very
- 3:11simple.
- 3:13Maybe your reason is work. Maybe it is
- 3:15travel.
- 3:17Maybe you want to speak English with new
- 3:18people.
- 3:20Maybe you simply want to feel more
- 3:21comfortable when you use English.
- 3:24There is no single correct reason. Now,
- 3:27we are going to make those sentences a
- 3:29little more personal.
- 3:31Think about your normal day.
- 3:33What time do you usually wake up?
- 3:36What do you do in the morning?
- 3:38What do you do after that? You do not
- 3:40need a long answer.
- 3:42For example, you simply say
- 3:45I usually wake up at 7:00.
- 3:47I drink some water.
- 3:49Then, I get ready for work.
- 3:51That is already a small piece of real
- 3:53English.
- 3:55Three simple sentences can tell someone
- 3:57something about your life. Here comes
- 3:59your first speaking moment.
- 4:02I'm going to give you a simple question
- 4:04and I want you to answer it out loud.
- 4:07What do you usually do in the morning?
- 4:09Think about your real morning.
- 4:12Maybe you wake up early, check your
- 4:14phone, make tea or coffee,
- 4:17take a shower or help your family.
- 4:20Don't try to make perfect sentences.
- 4:23Just say two or three simple sentences
- 4:25about your morning.
- 4:27It's okay if you make mistakes. Now we
- 4:30are going to do our first shadowing
- 4:31practice.
- 4:33This is the important part of this video
- 4:35because it helps to build your speaking
- 4:37skills. We will just practice 10
- 4:39sentences only.
- 4:41So, listen carefully and try to copy the
- 4:43rhythm and pronunciation.
- 4:46You don't need to copy my voice
- 4:47perfectly.
- 4:49Just listen, speak and keep going.
- 4:52Now let's begin.
- 4:54Here is the first sentence.
- 4:56I usually wake up early.
- 4:59I usually wake up early. Now you repeat.
- 5:04Here is the second sentence.
- 5:06I drink a glass of water after I wake
- 5:08up.
- 5:09I drink a glass of water after I wake
- 5:11up.
- 5:12Now you repeat.
- 5:16Here is another sentence.
- 5:19I make a cup of tea in the morning. I
- 5:21make a cup of tea in the morning.
- 5:23Now you repeat.
- 5:26Good job.
- 5:28Keep going.
- 5:29I check my phone for a few minutes.
- 5:32I check my phone for a few minutes.
- 5:34Now you say it.
- 5:39I wash my face and brush my teeth. I
- 5:41wash my face and brush my teeth. Repeat.
- 5:47I take a shower before I start my day. I
- 5:50take a shower before I start my day.
- 5:52Repeat.
- 5:55Here is the seventh sentence.
- 5:58I get dressed and get ready for work.
- 6:00I get dressed and get ready for work.
- 6:03Now you repeat.
- 6:07Here is the eighth sentence.
- 6:09I have breakfast with my family. I have
- 6:12breakfast with my family. Now repeat.
- 6:17Here is the ninth sentence.
- 6:19I check my plans for the day.
- 6:22I check my plans for the day.
- 6:24Now you repeat.
- 6:29Now this is the last sentence.
- 6:31I leave home and start my day. I leave
- 6:34home and start my day. Now you repeat.
- 6:39Great job. Don't stop between every
- 6:42word.
- 6:44Try to connect the words and let the
- 6:46sentence flow naturally.
- 6:48The goal is not perfect pronunciation.
- 6:51The goal is to speak smoothly and
- 6:53confidently. Did you notice what just
- 6:56happened? You did not study a new
- 6:58grammar chapter. You did not memorize 20
- 7:01difficult words.
- 7:03You simply took something from your real
- 7:05life and put it into English. That is
- 7:07the kind of English we will work with
- 7:09today.
- 7:10Small pieces first, real thoughts, real
- 7:14situations.
- 7:16And when you cannot find a perfect word,
- 7:18we will not let that one missing word
- 7:20stop the whole sentence.
- 7:22There is always another simple way to
- 7:24say what you mean. Now let us make this
- 7:27a little harder.
- 7:28Imagine someone is sitting beside you
- 7:31and asks,
- 7:32"What do you usually do after
- 7:33breakfast?" You might want to give a
- 7:35perfect answer. You might start
- 7:38searching your mind for better words.
- 7:40You stop there for a moment and then you
- 7:43use the words you already know.
- 7:45You could say, "After breakfast, I get
- 7:48ready for work. I check my messages.
- 7:51Then I leave home." That is enough.
- 7:54You are not taking an English exam. You
- 7:56are just having a small conversation.
- 7:59Here is something I want you to try.
- 8:01Look at the room around you for a few
- 8:03seconds.
- 8:04Pick one thing you can see.
- 8:06Maybe it is a chair. Maybe it is a
- 8:09window.
- 8:10Maybe it is your phone. Now describe it
- 8:12in English.
- 8:14This is my phone. It is black. I use it
- 8:17every day.
- 8:19See how easy that was?
- 8:21You did not need a special topic. You
- 8:23simply looked at something and talked
- 8:25about it.
- 8:26This is a useful habit because English
- 8:28is all around your real life. Now change
- 8:31the object. Look at something else.
- 8:34Maybe you see a book. You can simply
- 8:37say, "This is my book. I read it
- 8:39sometimes. It is on my table."
- 8:43Maybe you see a bottle.
- 8:44This is my water bottle. I keep it near
- 8:47me. I use it every day. Look, it's so
- 8:50easy and simple.
- 8:52But simple English does not mean it is
- 8:54useless.
- 8:56In fact, these little sentences train
- 8:58you to turn what you see and think into
- 9:01English without building a complicated
- 9:03sentence first.
- 9:05And here is where many learners make
- 9:07things harder for themselves.
- 9:09They think, "I know this word, but what
- 9:12is the advanced word? Or how can I say
- 9:15this in a more impressive way?" They
- 9:17want to impress others, but you don't
- 9:19need to do that today.
- 9:21If you know big, use big.
- 9:24If you know small, use small.
- 9:27If you know good, use good.
- 9:30Clear English is more useful than a
- 9:32difficult sentence that you cannot say
- 9:33comfortably. If you are still watching
- 9:36this video, even in the middle, it means
- 9:39you are taking your English goals
- 9:41seriously.
- 9:42And since you are here with me right
- 9:44now, I want to give you three small
- 9:46questions. Think about each question in
- 9:49your head first, and then write your
- 9:51answers in the comments below.
- 9:53Here is the first question.
- 9:56Why are you learning English?
- 9:58Think about your real reason, and write
- 10:00your answer in the comments.
- 10:03Now, here is question number two.
- 10:06What is the biggest problem you have
- 10:08when speaking English?
- 10:11Take a moment, think about it, and write
- 10:14your answer.
- 10:15And one more question.
- 10:17What do you want to be able to do in
- 10:19English after 7 days?
- 10:21Write your answer in the comments, too.
- 10:24Don't worry about making your answers
- 10:26perfect. Just start speaking and
- 10:29writing.
- 10:30When you do both, you are practicing two
- 10:33important skills at the same time, your
- 10:36speaking and your writing.
- 10:38You may notice something interesting.
- 10:40The first answer was probably easy
- 10:42because you already knew the words.
- 10:45The second answer may have taken a
- 10:47little longer, and maybe the third
- 10:49question made you think even more. That
- 10:52is useful information. You are
- 10:54discovering where your English feels
- 10:56comfortable and where it becomes
- 10:58difficult. Do not judge yourself for
- 11:00that. Just notice it.
- 11:03Today, we are not trying to hide those
- 11:06small gaps in your English. We are going
- 11:09to use them, because every time you
- 11:11notice a gap and try to express
- 11:13yourself, you are taking one more step
- 11:16towards speaking English more naturally.
- 11:19Suppose you want to say something, but
- 11:21you forget one word.
- 11:24Let's say you want to talk about a place
- 11:25where you buy medicine,
- 11:27but you forget the word pharmacy. You
- 11:29can simply say, "I went to the place
- 11:32where I buy medicine.
- 11:34Maybe it is not the shortest sentence,
- 11:36but your message is still clear.
- 11:39This is an important speaking skill.
- 11:41When one word disappears from your
- 11:43memory, you can describe the idea
- 11:46instead of stopping the whole
- 11:47conversation.
- 11:49Now let us practice that idea.
- 11:52Imagine you forget the word umbrella.
- 11:55How can you explain it?
- 11:57You could say, it is something I use
- 11:59when it rains.
- 12:01Maybe you forget the word kitchen. You
- 12:04can say, it is the room where we cook
- 12:06food.
- 12:07You are still communicating.
- 12:10This is what I want you to understand
- 12:11today.
- 12:13You do not need every English word
- 12:15before you can speak.
- 12:17Sometimes, you can use the English you
- 12:19already have to explain the English you
- 12:21forgot.
- 12:22Now it's time for the second part,
- 12:25our shadowing practice.
- 12:27We are going to practice for just 5
- 12:29minutes.
- 12:31Listen to me first, then say the
- 12:33sentence slowly. Don't worry about
- 12:35making mistakes.
- 12:37I will give you enough time to repeat
- 12:39each sentence after me.
- 12:41Are you ready? Let's begin.
- 12:44Here is your first sentence.
- 12:46I am learning English every day.
- 12:49I am learning English every day.
- 12:52Now you repeat.
- 12:55I want to improve my fluency. I want to
- 12:58improve my fluency. Now you repeat.
- 13:04I am not afraid of making mistakes.
- 13:07I am not afraid of making mistakes.
- 13:10Repeat.
- 13:13I speak English with confidence.
- 13:16I speak English with confidence.
- 13:18Repeat.
- 13:21I understand more every day.
- 13:24I understand more every day. Repeat.
- 13:30I'm proud of my progress.
- 13:32I'm proud of my progress.
- 13:34Now repeat.
- 13:38I practice speaking English with my
- 13:39friends.
- 13:41I practice speaking English with my
- 13:42friends.
- 13:46I improve my listening by watching
- 13:48English videos. I improve my listening
- 13:51by watching English videos. Now you
- 13:53repeat.
- 13:59I make mistakes sometimes, but I learn
- 14:02from them. I make mistakes sometimes,
- 14:05but I learn from them.
- 14:07Repeat it slowly.
- 14:13I want to have more English
- 14:14conversations with native speakers.
- 14:17I want to have more English
- 14:18conversations with native speakers.
- 14:21Now you repeat.
- 14:27Here is your last sentence. Sometimes I
- 14:30forget a word, but I try to explain my
- 14:33idea in another way.
- 14:36Sometimes I forget a word, but I try to
- 14:38explain my idea in another way. Now you
- 14:41repeat.
- 14:47Great job.
- 14:49You have just completed part two
- 14:51shadowing practice.
- 14:53Now we are going to bring everything
- 14:54together.
- 14:56I want you to imagine that we have just
- 14:58met for the first time.
- 15:00I look at you and ask, "Tell me a little
- 15:03about yourself."
- 15:04You don't need a long speech. Start with
- 15:07your name,
- 15:08then tell me where you live, what you
- 15:10do,
- 15:11something you enjoy, and why you are
- 15:14learning English.
- 15:16Five small ideas, that's all.
- 15:19Take a few seconds to think, and then
- 15:21say them in your own way. Here is a
- 15:24simple example, but don't copy it word
- 15:26for word.
- 15:28Hi, my name is Ria. I live in India. I
- 15:32am a college student. I enjoy watching
- 15:34movies in my free time.
- 15:37I am learning English because I want to
- 15:38travel. Look at how normal those
- 15:41sentences are.
- 15:42There is no difficult vocabulary here.
- 15:46But together, they tell a small story
- 15:48about a person.
- 15:50Your job is to create your own version.
- 15:53And if your sentences sound a little
- 15:55broken,
- 15:56that's okay.
- 15:57Maybe you say, "I live India." instead
- 16:01of "I live in India."
- 16:03You can fix it later.
- 16:05Maybe you stop because you cannot
- 16:07remember a word. Take a breath and
- 16:09continue with another sentence.
- 16:12Today, I care more about you finishing
- 16:15your message than making every sentence
- 16:17perfect.
- 16:19When you finish speaking, you can look
- 16:21back and notice what you want to
- 16:23improve.
- 16:24Let's make the challenge slightly more
- 16:26interesting.
- 16:28Instead of answering one question at a
- 16:30time,
- 16:31connect your ideas with simple words
- 16:33like and, but, because, so, then. For
- 16:37example,
- 16:39I like watching movies, but I don't
- 16:41watch them every day because I have
- 16:43college.
- 16:44I usually watch one on the weekend, so
- 16:47it is a nice way to relax.
- 16:49See the difference?
- 16:51The ideas are still simple. We are just
- 16:54connecting them.
- 16:55That is how a few short sentences can
- 16:57slowly become natural speech.
- 17:00Now, here comes your actual day one
- 17:02challenge.
- 17:03I want you to record yourself speaking
- 17:05for 2 minutes.
- 17:07Use your phone.
- 17:09You don't need a special camera or
- 17:10microphone. Talk about your name,
- 17:13where you live, what you normally do,
- 17:16something you enjoy,
- 17:18and why you are learning English.
- 17:21Then add one more thing, your English
- 17:23goal for these 7 days.
- 17:26You can pause sometimes.
- 17:28You can search for a simple word,
- 17:31but try not to read a prepared
- 17:32paragraph.
- 17:33When you finish, don't immediately
- 17:36delete the recording because you may
- 17:37don't like your voice, but keep it.
- 17:40Give it a simple name like English day
- 17:42one.
- 17:43This recording is not there to show
- 17:45other people. It is there for you. On
- 17:48other day, you can listen to it again
- 17:50and compare.
- 17:51Maybe you will notice that you speak
- 17:53more easily.
- 17:55Maybe you will notice that some
- 17:56sentences come faster.
- 17:58Maybe the change will be very small.
- 18:01Either way, you will have real evidence
- 18:03of your practice.
- 18:05Before we finish today's lesson, I want
- 18:07to give you three simple tips that can
- 18:09help you speak English more easily and
- 18:11confidently.
- 18:13These tips are easy to use in real life.
- 18:16Here is tip number one.
- 18:18Talk about things you already know. You
- 18:20don't need difficult topics or
- 18:22complicated words.
- 18:24Start with your daily life, your family,
- 18:27your work, your studies, your hobbies,
- 18:30or your plans.
- 18:32When you talk about familiar things,
- 18:34your brain can focus more on speaking.
- 18:37Tip number two.
- 18:39If you forget a word, don't stop.
- 18:42Don't go back to your first language
- 18:44immediately.
- 18:45Try to explain the idea using simpler
- 18:48words.
- 18:49Keep talking. This is an important skill
- 18:51because real conversations do not always
- 18:54give you time to find the perfect word.
- 18:57Tip number three. Record your voice
- 18:59regularly.
- 19:01When you listen to yourself, you can
- 19:03notice things you may not notice while
- 19:04speaking.
- 19:06Maybe you speak too fast. Maybe you
- 19:08pause too much. Maybe you repeat the
- 19:11same words. That is okay. The goal is
- 19:14not to sound perfect. The goal is to
- 19:17notice, practice, and improve.
- 19:20You don't need 10 new rules today.
- 19:23These three tips are enough to begin.
- 19:26And remember, day one is not about
- 19:29becoming fluent in one day. It is about
- 19:32taking the first step and proving to
- 19:34yourself that you can practice.
- 19:37So, if you completed today's practice,
- 19:39take a moment and feel proud of
- 19:41yourself. You showed up. You spoke. You
- 19:45made mistakes, and you kept going.
- 19:48That is how progress begins.
- 19:51Tomorrow, we will continue with day two
- 19:54and we'll build on what you learned
- 19:55today with more useful English speaking
- 19:58practice.
- 19:59And before you leave, there is one small
- 20:02thing I want you to do. If you completed
- 20:04your day one practice, write day one
- 20:07complete in the comments below.
- 20:09I want to know how many of you are
- 20:11taking this challenge seriously.
- 20:13Until then, keep practicing, keep
- 20:16improving, and most importantly, don't
- 20:19give up on yourself.
