DANGER: Iowa State Set To SHOCK Utah In First Game Of Big 12 Play, Utes Have A TOUGH Game Ahead — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00the internet, sports media, really the
- 0:03entire world trying to convince me that
- 0:05Utah will defeat Iowa State this
- 0:07weekend. Well, it doesn't really feel
- 0:09like it's going to go that way. In fact,
- 0:11Iowa State beating Utah feels less like
- 0:13an upset at this point and more like the
- 0:15expectation.

- 0:43Today we are talking about Iowa State
- 0:45versus Utah. The Clones first game in
- 0:49Big 12 play. Same for the Utes. This is
- 0:52a real test on both sides of the ball.
- 0:55And uh we're going to talk about how I
- 0:57really I I said it in the opener. I
- 1:00don't think this is necessarily an upset
- 1:02for Iowa State if they win this game.
- 1:04Now, of course, if they lose, like, you
- 1:05know, it's
- 1:07No, but if they if everything goes to
- 1:10plan, I feel like Iowa State should win
- 1:12this game. So, we're going to break down
- 1:14why I feel that way in segment number
- 1:16one. Then, in segment number two, we're
- 1:18going to talk about how can Iowa State
- 1:20max out their odds. Um, not necessarily
- 1:23if everything went their way. How could
- 1:25a few things uh go in Utah's favor even,
- 1:28but Iowa State's flip the script in such
- 1:31a way that they will still win the game?
- 1:34We'll talk about that to uh to lead us
- 1:36into our final segment, which is is this
- 1:40game the biggest game of all time. We're
- 1:43going to break down just how big this
- 1:45first conference game is for Iowa State,
- 1:47for Jimmy Rogers, for the future of the
- 1:49program, for all of that. Um, I can't
- 1:51wait to get to all of that and more, but
- 1:53first we have to really kind of go
- 1:55through the concept that this is not so
- 1:57much of an upset for Iowa State as it is
- 1:59the expectation to win. I have on the on
- 2:02the sidebar here upset brewing because
- 2:05yes, technically right now Iowa State is
- 2:09not favored. Um, right now I'm seeing a
- 2:11line at about eight and a half. Um just
- 2:14over then an underdog by a touchdown or
- 2:17just just over a touchdown underdog I
- 2:20guess is how you word that. Um not quite
- 2:22as much as the Iowa game. I'm certainly
- 2:24remembering that line, but still more
- 2:27than a touchdown. Looking at probably a
- 2:29twocore um line here and I just don't
- 2:32see that as the case. I really don't. Um
- 2:35it's a factor of or it's a multitude of
- 2:37factors here. Utah I don't think is the
- 2:40best team in the world. Okay. Um, Utah
- 2:43fans, please hold on to your hats. I'm
- 2:46not coming at you the way I did last
- 2:47year. All right. I still think you guys
- 2:49are solid, but I don't think you guys
- 2:50are top 15 in the country material, to
- 2:53be honest. Um, and Iowa State is better
- 2:56than they were given credit for. I think
- 2:58there is a little bit of hangover from
- 3:00this off season where Iowa State was so
- 3:05doubted. Iowa State was looked at as
- 3:07literally the worst team of all time,
- 3:09which is crazy. It is crazy when we
- 3:12think back to that and uh you look at
- 3:14other teams around the country that
- 3:15lost, you know, similar to to Iowa State
- 3:18or maybe um I I I couldn't say more. I
- 3:21think Iowa State lost the most. I don't
- 3:23know if Oklahoma State was very close. I
- 3:24don't know what the exact numbers were,
- 3:26but other teams that lost a ton of
- 3:28players, right? Other teams that lost
- 3:29their head coach, Iowa State was viewed
- 3:32in an entirely different league. Really,
- 3:35it wasn't Iowa State's a part of all
- 3:37these teams that lost everybody. It's
- 3:39like there, you know, the college
- 3:40football's out of control. There's all
- 3:42these teams that lost everybody and then
- 3:43look at Iowa State. I mean, this team is
- 3:45just, they lost their head coach, Matt
- 3:47Campbell, and they're not going to be
- 3:49able to recover. Look at the squad they
- 3:51put together. I don't feel like the last
- 3:54in the Big 12 projection, the dead last
- 3:57in all college football projection holds
- 3:59up at this point in the season. So I I
- 4:02think the 8 and a half line is still
- 4:04kind of relying on that as opposed to
- 4:09where Iowa State is at really. And to
- 4:12just kind of sum it up if there are any
- 4:13Utah fans watching, Iowa State is a
- 4:17tough tough tough defensive team. Um
- 4:21I've been saying this week that they've
- 4:22only given up 30 points. I am incorrect
- 4:24in that. I'm just unable to do math.
- 4:27They have given up 33 points. Okay. on
- 4:29the season. 10 to Southeast Missouri
- 4:31State, 16 to Iowa, and seven to Bowling
- 4:34Green. Jesse Bobett's goal is for this
- 4:37team to only average 14 points a game on
- 4:39the entire season, obviously meeting
- 4:41that so far. And I I I don't think it's
- 4:43impossible that they do it. This
- 4:45defensive line is so good, just so
- 4:48ridiculously talented. And you know, I
- 4:52think a lot of people when they look at
- 4:53defensive lines, whether it's in the NFL
- 4:55or in in college, you look at one
- 4:57player, um, a lot of teams will have a
- 5:00standout guy and some role players. And
- 5:02so you're saying, well, what can this
- 5:04one standout player do? What is And for
- 5:06Iowa State, you might say it's Isaac
- 5:07Terrell, right? So what what can Isaac
- 5:09Terrell do for Iowa State? Well, Isaac
- 5:11Terrell is great. Um, but the reason he
- 5:14is so awesome is because of the rest of
- 5:16the line. the rest of this defensive
- 5:19line. Jack Janikowski, Zamir Hawk, um
- 5:22you those are just two names like there
- 5:24are a Bryson Lamb, like there are is a
- 5:26plethora Kaden Crawford of names, Jace
- 5:29Gilbert of the of these guys, Max
- 5:32Balloon that really
- 5:34create this whole experience, if you
- 5:36will. Um all of these guys give Isaac
- 5:39Terrell the platform to succeed and
- 5:41Isaac Terrell being who he is gives all
- 5:44of these guys a chance to succeed. So
- 5:46there is there is talent, there is depth
- 5:50at the defensive line position. And you
- 5:53know, this so far this season, Iowa
- 5:56State has six sacks. They did all come
- 5:58against Southeast Missouri State. But if
- 6:00you watch the tape back, um it wasn't
- 6:03that that was the only game that this
- 6:04defensive line was good in. In fact, um
- 6:09against Iowa, I felt like it was one of
- 6:11the biggest reasons Iowa State was in
- 6:12that game. Yes, there were a few throws
- 6:14that were made. um on plays where Iowa
- 6:17State didn't get good pressure, but even
- 6:18on plays where Iowa State did get good
- 6:20pressure, you saw a few solid throws
- 6:22anyway. So, Iowa State um and this
- 6:25defensive line were able to create
- 6:26pressure with a four-man front or able
- 6:28to bring a blitz here and there in the
- 6:29four-man front. The stunts they run were
- 6:31able to get um at least pressure on the
- 6:33quarterback and I think that made an
- 6:35impact um on that Iowa game. And then
- 6:37against Bowling Green, I felt like it
- 6:39was a big deal as well. So, do not sleep
- 6:42on this defensive line. This team is
- 6:44very tough defensively. I've spent too
- 6:46much time talking about the defensive
- 6:48line, but they directly impact the
- 6:49linebackers. Sullivan Schlimkin, Carson
- 6:52Willig, Breland Goodwin, like just to
- 6:55name a few. This this linebacking core
- 6:58is incredible. It's way better than I
- 7:00thought it was going to be. They fly
- 7:02around. They defend the pass well. Um,
- 7:05they are disciplined. They are
- 7:07incredible. They really, really are. And
- 7:09all of that to say, you know, I'm not
- 7:11trying to take anything away from the
- 7:12linebackers here. I set points I need to
- 7:13make. This defense is way, way, way
- 7:18tougher than anybody thought it was
- 7:20going to be. And I think a lot of people
- 7:22I say that even knowing that I think a
- 7:24lot of people thought the defense was
- 7:26going to be the strong suit for Iowa
- 7:27State this upcoming year. Oh, so then
- 7:29this offense must absolutely stink if
- 7:31this defense is one of the best in the
- 7:33country. Well, I do say that jokingly,
- 7:35but Iowa State is like 12th best in
- 7:36yards allowed and like 13th best in
- 7:38points per game. So, they are definitely
- 7:39one of the best in the country. U I know
- 7:41it's week three or I suppose week four.
- 7:44We're through week three, but yeah, the
- 7:46offense is not on the the best um
- 7:49amongst the best in the country. Uh but
- 7:51it it gets the job done. And you know,
- 7:54you want to talk about how bad the pass
- 7:56game is. I'm going to be right here with
- 7:57you. I don't think Jaylen Rainer has
- 7:59impressed in the way that I thought he
- 8:01or hoped he would. Um I don't think the
- 8:03wide receivers have answered the call.
- 8:06Actually, to an extent, the wide
- 8:07receivers have done okay. I wonder if
- 8:09it's more play calling and Jaylen Rener,
- 8:11but nonetheless, you know, Mari Hayes
- 8:13has been great over B's been pretty
- 8:14solid. Um, but Iowa State's only
- 8:17completed 31 passes, right? You've only
- 8:19attempted 52 times. I don't feel like
- 8:21the pass game is there, but it also
- 8:23hasn't lost Iowa State any games. Jaylen
- 8:26Rers's one interception came against
- 8:28Bowling Green on a deep shot that was
- 8:29underthrown. Like, it was early in the
- 8:32game. It did not lose them that game.
- 8:33and Jaylen Rer has been very good at
- 8:35avoiding sacks at the very least. You
- 8:38know, he's getting out, rushing for a
- 8:40few yards, getting out throwing the ball
- 8:41away. Is Iowa State's pass game winning
- 8:44them games? Absolutely not. It is not a
- 8:47threat right now. Um, and hopefully as
- 8:49we get into Big 12 play, you know, I'll
- 8:51talk about this in the third segment,
- 8:52but that changes. But for right now,
- 8:55Iowa State's offense could be defined
- 8:57as, you know, it will wear down your
- 8:59defense because of the
- 9:01very obvious um favorite, you know, I
- 9:04guess favoritism towards the run game.
- 9:06Um very clear that that's where they're
- 9:08trying to win. I mean, you've got jumbo
- 9:10packages on like over half of the plays
- 9:12called from I from Tyler Roll from Iowa
- 9:14State here. Uh very clear that Aiden
- 9:16Flor with 38 carries to Jaylen Ray's 52
- 9:19attempts. You know, that's just running
- 9:20back one. So, um I I think this offense
- 9:25is serviceable and if they're able, as
- 9:27I've said all year long, and it was huge
- 9:29in the Iowa game, and I think it was
- 9:31actually relatively accurate. If I was
- 9:33if Iowa State's defense can keep them in
- 9:35the game, this offense will not throw it
- 9:37away and will keep them uh or at least
- 9:41it'll keep them in the game. It'll be
- 9:42serviceable. Like, you can win a game uh
- 9:44because of this defense. They don't need
- 9:46to have 1,400 yards by week three. you
- 9:50know, they've got just over what a
- 9:52thousand 1,50 yards. Um, and I think
- 9:55that's that's actually okay. They
- 9:58they're doing enough to win the game.
- 9:59And honestly, those numbers are kind of
- 10:00inflated by Bowling Green being the
- 10:02worst defense in college football. Um, I
- 10:06do have something else that I didn't get
- 10:07to bring up in this segment, so I'm
- 10:08going to talk about that in segment
- 10:09number two as well, is how can Iowa
- 10:10State max out their odds? We'll talk
- 10:12about that coming up right here after
- 10:13this.
- 10:18But first, a word for our friends over
- 10:19at Kshi. College football is back and so
- 10:22are the predictions. Who makes the
- 10:24playoff? Who wins their conference? Who
- 10:26takes home the national title? Koshi,
- 10:28America's number one prediction market
- 10:30platform, lets you trade those
- 10:31predictions in a live market. Will, as
- 10:35far as the Big 12 goes, will Colorado
- 10:38defeat Baylor? I mean, right now, uh,
- 10:41Colorado is currently trading at a 24%
- 10:46probability. I mean, 24% meaning that a
- 10:50$100
- 10:51trade would pay out to $412
- 10:55if they are victorious. Me personally, I
- 10:57like Iowa State as an upset this
- 10:58weekend, but uh, nonetheless, on Kowi,
- 11:01you're trading against peers in a live
- 11:03market, meaning there's no house. And as

- 11:45another for inventory, another for
- 11:47sales, and somehow none of them talk to
- 11:50each other. That's where ODO comes in.

- 13:08Iowa State's going to upset Utah this
- 13:10weekend because
- 13:12a lot of different reasons. We just
- 13:13broke those down in segment number one.
- 13:14And I actually have more that I didn't
- 13:16get to get to yet. So, we are going to
- 13:18cover those really quickly and then
- 13:19we'll transition into how Iowa State can
- 13:22maximize. This isn't keys to victory.
- 13:24It's not necessary, but these will
- 13:26certainly help Iowa State quite a bit.
- 13:28Um, I do think that there those are very
- 13:30different things. So, I kind of wanted
- 13:32to talk about that at some point this
- 13:34week. Um, but before we do, I just want
- 13:36to remind you that subscribe button down
- 13:37below. Completely free and helps us
- 13:39prove it's a Cyclone State. We've made
- 13:41some good progress. We're still a ways
- 13:43away from uh surpassing Lockdown Iowa in
- 13:46uh subscribers. Completely free. Just
- 13:48throwing that out there. Um, all right.
- 13:50Let's go ahead and jump into the last
- 13:52reason here. Uh, you know, it's it's
- 13:55fall. It's officially fall. I don't know
- 13:56if you guys caught that yesterday. It
- 13:58was a I think was the first day of fall.
- 14:00It's been pretty chilly. Um I'm actually
- 14:03wearing my sweatshirt. It's the the cool
- 14:0595 spirit. I think it's the spirit
- 14:06collection is what it is. Love this
- 14:08sweatshirt. Right. Finally back in
- 14:10sweatshirt weather. Got me thinking.
- 14:13We've got so much rain. What's going on
- 14:15this weekend? I feel like we've really
- 14:17shifted weather-wise. I swipe over into
- 14:19the Ames portion of my weather app here.
- 14:22Um Saturday, high of 64.
- 14:26It's going to rain basically all day.
- 14:28That's what I'm seeing right now. This
- 14:30will play a role in this game. And I
- 14:32will keep it quick because I know that
- 14:33this isn't the most interesting point.
- 14:35But the concept that weather doesn't
- 14:39really affect the game because both
- 14:41teams have to play in it. I've had
- 14:42conversations multiple times with people
- 14:44this week. Got to say largely Iowa fans
- 14:47that are saying this, which is, you
- 14:48know, it is what it is. But um the
- 14:51concept that it doesn't affect the game
- 14:53because both teams have to play in it to
- 14:55me does not apply to every game. Some
- 14:57games for sure, but really only where
- 15:00both teams um kind of play the same
- 15:03style of football.
- 15:05Iowa State and Utah do not play the same
- 15:07style of football. And Iowa State um the
- 15:10style that they play largely um running,
- 15:14right? Largely physical. uh this this
- 15:17weather will favor Iowa State and Jimmy
- 15:19Rogers talked about it a little bit in
- 15:21his press conference kind of talking
- 15:22about you know end of the season when it
- 15:24gets colder that's really like where we
- 15:25really gain our advantage but for now
- 15:27you know there is at least something to
- 15:28be said about this is kind of kind of
- 15:31how it goes and when we get to the end
- 15:33of the season one of the reasons people
- 15:34talk about oh the cold Iowa State has an
- 15:37advantage it's because they've been in
- 15:38it you know how to practice in the cold
- 15:41you know how to hit in the cold you know
- 15:43how it feels you know what to expect you
- 15:44know what to wear how to prepare Um, I'm
- 15:46a poet and I didn't even know it. Like
- 15:48that's what makes the difference. It's
- 15:50it's the
- 15:52acclimatization towards the weather.
- 15:56This actually applies relatively well as
- 15:58well. Iowa State and Ames and and really
- 16:00across the entire state of Iowa has
- 16:03gotten so much rain over the last week
- 16:04or two. Not really sure what's going on,
- 16:07but it's not going to be anything new.
- 16:08So, um I feel like that's that's playing
- 16:12towards Iowa State's favor here and a
- 16:14reason they can absolutely upset Utah in
- 16:16this game. Now, uh quickly I have to get
- 16:18to a few things that I think Iowa State
- 16:20can do to maximize their odds to win
- 16:21this game. For one, if they're able to
- 16:25find a deep shot somewhere, that will
- 16:29that'll be huge. Um against Iowa, you
- 16:32were pinned up against, you know, your
- 16:34your own end zone almost the entire
- 16:35game. Getting a drive going is hugely
- 16:38important. Yes. But Jaylen Rener, I
- 16:42mean, you just got to find one throw.
- 16:44It's It's just one throw at a time.
- 16:46Piece them together. Put one in the
- 16:48bread basket 30 yards downfield, right?
- 16:51Uh I I think that's and we'll get to
- 16:53keys to victory on Friday more more than
- 16:56today. I have some really good keys that
- 16:58I want to get to, but it would maximize
- 17:00Iowa State's chances if they're able to
- 17:01find an explosive play. I just I don't
- 17:05know that Iowa State's going to score 35
- 17:07points in this one. So, every point
- 17:09matters. And if you're able to rip off a
- 17:11huge play that goes for a touchdown,
- 17:13that really helps obviously. And if it's
- 17:15through the air, it's even more
- 17:17unexpected. It's even more not a part of
- 17:19how I think Iowa State's going to win
- 17:21this game. That will play a huge role.
- 17:24I'm throwing this in here because I
- 17:25don't think this is a good thing to
- 17:26throw in keys to victory. We've been
- 17:28doing this long enough. I just I feel
- 17:30like this is a key to victory to every
- 17:32game. And so I'm going to say if Iowa
- 17:33State's able to find a turnover, that'll
- 17:35be a huge like that's the most duh thing
- 17:38of all time, right? Um so I'm not even
- 17:41going to really harp on that, but I do
- 17:43think, you know, giving this offense
- 17:44every chance that you can is going to
- 17:46play a big role. A lot of the things
- 17:48that maximize Iowa State's chances in
- 17:51this one are offensive because I trust
- 17:53this defense so much. Um I don't think
- 17:56that they need anything to like go their
- 17:58way or anything. Um, but I will say
- 18:00another part of this is the special
- 18:02teams. If you can
- 18:05piece something together, it doesn't
- 18:07need to be a touchdown, but like a a 30
- 18:09yard return, a 25 yard return um on a
- 18:13punt or potentially a kick return out to
- 18:15the 40, you know, that's something that
- 18:18it's just it's it's nice to have and it
- 18:21really, you know, creates that short
- 18:22field where with Kyle Karate as a
- 18:24weapon, you can find some points almost
- 18:26no matter what. Uh, that's another way
- 18:29that Iowa State can maximize their
- 18:30points in this one to maximize their
- 18:32ability to win because I have all sorts
- 18:36of, you know, things that Iowa State
- 18:37needs to do. Um, but these are these are
- 18:40things that if they do them things,
- 18:42it'll help. It'll maximize their odds.
- 18:44They don't need to get a deep shot
- 18:46downfield to win this game. They don't
- 18:47need to return a punt 40 yards. They
- 18:49don't necessarily even need a turnover.
- 18:52But doing those things, you know, Iowa
- 18:54State is nearly a nine-point underdog.
- 18:57like they're not favored. They
- 18:59shouldn't, you know, dominate in this
- 19:01game, but it's very possible that they
- 19:03can win. And if they do these things, I
- 19:05think they're allowed a little bit more
- 19:07leniency on the keys to victory. Of
- 19:10course, not a ton. Um, but to an extent
- 19:13to where they could still win this game.
- 19:15And like I said, keys to victory we'll
- 19:17talk about on Friday. So, make sure you

- 21:49Iowa State versus Utah isn't the biggest
- 21:51game yet of the season. I wouldn't say I
- 21:53I would honestly argue that Iowa State
- 21:55versus Iowa has been the biggest game so
- 21:57far just because of it being week two.
- 22:00It be it being, you know, in state on
- 22:01the road. Um there's a lot that went
- 22:03into that game, but this is certainly a
- 22:05bigger game than I think many would I
- 22:09don't know. Maybe I guess maybe people
- 22:10have the right pulse on this game. I
- 22:12haven't been
- 22:14I don't know on the internet. I've seen
- 22:16a little bit um in person. I haven't
- 22:18really heard enough about it. So, I
- 22:19wanted to kind of take a second to talk
- 22:20about how big this game really is for
- 22:22Iowa State because, you know, it's more
- 22:24than just Iowa State versus Utah. It's
- 22:26more than just this back and forth
- 22:29rivalry, whatever. Uh, I don't know if
- 22:31you can call it that, but it's obviously
- 22:34Jimmy Rogers first conference game.
- 22:36That's huge, right? Um, it's a chance
- 22:39for for Iowa State to show who they are
- 22:41in the conference, but more than that,
- 22:45it's Utah who is a a top 15 team right
- 22:48now. Do they deserve the top 15 rating?
- 22:51That will be the question um after Iowa
- 22:53State wins. Okay, understand that.
- 22:57Understand that when Iowa State wins
- 22:58this game, you will see everywhere. Did
- 23:01Utah deserve the top 15 ranking? It will
- 23:03it will not be was Iowa State
- 23:06underrated. it won't be that. So, don't
- 23:08be surprised when it doesn't, you know,
- 23:10show up that way. Utah has played,
- 23:14honestly, effectively nobody. Let's just
- 23:16call it how it is. They've played Idaho,
- 23:18who they beat 66-4. They've beat
- 23:20Arkansas, who not a really good SEC
- 23:23school this year. Uh, beat them 43-10,
- 23:26and they beat Utah State 33 to nothing.
- 23:28So, they did what they needed to do in
- 23:30those games. But when Iowa State comes
- 23:32in and beats them by 12, um, which would
- 23:36be a crazy number, but when they do,
- 23:38you're going to see everyone everywhere
- 23:39say, "Well, look at who they've played.
- 23:41Maybe they didn't deserve that top 15
- 23:42rating." At the same time, though, maybe
- 23:46we're not going to get that or maybe
- 23:47Iowa State won't get that initial
- 23:49recognition. You're building a resume.
- 23:52you're absolutely building um a season
- 23:55where people can look and say, "Well,
- 23:58look what they did against Iowa." You
- 23:59know, a top 20 team, a a very very close
- 24:03game down to the last 15 seconds. Uh
- 24:06didn't win it, but didn't have the ball
- 24:08last either. Um and then they beat a top
- 24:1015 Utah. Like maybe we don't sleep on
- 24:14Iowa State anymore. And that's the
- 24:15biggest thing with this game is
- 24:19I think Iowa State will be perceived
- 24:21differently if they beat Utah. And I
- 24:23don't think that's a week- toeek thing.
- 24:25I think the win over Southeast Missouri
- 24:28State and Bowling Green are great, but
- 24:30they don't do anything to change Iowa
- 24:32State's perceptive or perception, excuse
- 24:34me. I think that they're expected. Um,
- 24:38nobody really had Iowa State coming out
- 24:39of the non-conference with less than two
- 24:41wins realistically. uh maybe a few Iowa
- 24:44fans, but nobody was wowed by those two
- 24:47wins. The loss to Iowa was closer than
- 24:49most people thought, but unless you have
- 24:50a win in the win column, nobody really
- 24:53cares. A win over Utah would change what
- 24:56Iowa State's capable of this season,
- 24:59would change the perception of Jimmy
- 25:01Rodgers, and to be quite frank, changes
- 25:03how Iowa State looks for recruits out
- 25:07there, changes how Iowa State is
- 25:09perceived by coaches around the league.
- 25:12um changes the amount of respect that
- 25:14they get and and not necessarily just in
- 25:16this one game. And I don't want to play
- 25:18this too much either, play this up too
- 25:20much, but this game is yet another
- 25:24opportunity for Iowa State to seize.
- 25:26It's not week 10 and they're playing a
- 25:29tough opponent and wow. Oh, an upset.
- 25:31This is a game where we're still not
- 25:36super certain of what Iowa State is. We
- 25:38have a pretty good idea, but we don't
- 25:40have a locked down ironed out. This is
- 25:44who Iowa State is under Jimmy Rodgers.
- 25:47We're in week four. All right. Iowa
- 25:49State's played one legitimate team to
- 25:51this point. No offense to any Bowling
- 25:53Green fans out there or any Red Birds
- 25:56out there, right? This is an opportunity
- 25:58for Jimmy Rogers and Co. to put
- 26:01everything on display and for everyone
- 26:03to say, "Okay, Iowa State is a legit
- 26:07power four opponent." is a legit Big 12
- 26:09team. Are they going to win it this
- 26:11year? Probably not, right? Just look at
- 26:13the off seasonason they had and and all
- 26:15of that. Who knows? Maybe they will. But
- 26:18next year, Jimmy Rogers gets more of his
- 26:20own guys under uh under him, is able to
- 26:22build up more through the transfer
- 26:24portal. There's no reason why they can't
- 26:27they can't be competitive. Um and I do
- 26:30think that goes a long way. I really do.
- 26:33It's in a lot of nuance ways and ways
- 26:35that a lot of people would say probably
- 26:37don't matter. You know, how many times
- 26:38is not that College Game Day would ever
- 26:40come to Iowa State because they are all
- 26:42SEC schools um that they're visiting,
- 26:45but you know, is big new kickoff coming
- 26:47to Iowa State and and what's the
- 26:49perception of Iowa State? And it's kind
- 26:50of what Iowa State basketball has gone
- 26:52through. We talk about this all the
- 26:54time, but it's like, well, I want to see
- 26:55it materialize. You've seen it in Iowa
- 26:56State basketball.
- 26:58Iowa State's ridiculous turnaround on
- 27:01the hardwood. um and sustained success
- 27:04and TJ Ottoberger's personality and all
- 27:06of that has led to recruiting seeing a
- 27:09massive uptick. Now, the numbers
- 27:11obviously as soon as Summer uh commits
- 27:13to Iowa State, their numbers just go way
- 27:15down and so Iowa State's never able to
- 27:17claim, you know, this ridiculous class
- 27:20or top 50 or top 10, whatever. But um I
- 27:24think you can agree is when you look at
- 27:26what Iowa State's been able to recruit
- 27:28over the last year or two, it's a lot
- 27:29different than what they got in year one
- 27:31or two under uh TJ Alberger. And I think
- 27:34that the same thing applies to football
- 27:35here. And it's all it's really this
- 27:38argument is more about perception than
- 27:39anything because
- 27:42you know realistically you're probably I
- 27:45do think there is a momentum argument in
- 27:47this game, right? If Iowa State wins
- 27:48their first Big 12 game, they're going
- 27:50to view West Virginia differently.
- 27:51They're going to view BYU differently. I
- 27:54don't think that's wrong necessarily,
- 27:56but I think at the same time, you got to
- 27:57take every game at its at its own value,
- 27:59and Iowa State will be tasked with
- 28:01winning the rest of the games if they
- 28:02win this one. Like, it wasn't a fluke,
- 28:04but this game holds more weight than
- 28:06just Iowa State at home. Like, this
- 28:09would be a huge upset. I think Jack
- 28:11Trice, you know, and the white out will
- 28:13be on display. I really hope that it
- 28:15sells out. I know it's going to be
- 28:17nasty. Okay, just talked about the
- 28:18weather, but you're kind of expected to
- 28:20show out for for Iowa State in this one.
- 28:22A top 15 opponent at home. Uh need to
- 28:25make the environment rowdy, need to help
- 28:27them out. Like how is Iowa State
- 28:30perceived? I it will be I I want to say
- 28:33largely dictated by this game and the
- 28:34Iowa game. Like we've already gone
- 28:36through one of them. This is kind of the
- 28:37other half of it. So, without a few
- 28:40crazy upsets the rest of the year, this
- 28:42Utah game will be massive for how Iowa
- 28:44State's perceived this year and this off
- 28:46season. Um, and I think that's a big
- 28:48deal. So, let me know what you think in
- 28:50the comments down below. Is Iowa State
- 28:52going to win against Utah? I think so. I
- 28:53really do. Let me know in the comments
- 28:55or on Twitter at nick_marv. That being
- 28:58said, that's all I've got for today.
- 28:59Until next time, Cyclone fans. Sayanara.
