- 0:02Welcome to Las Vegas.
- 0:04CATHY: Candy Apples Dance Center is going to meet up
- 0:06with the Abby Lee dancers at a competition
- 0:08and we're going to go head to head.
- 0:09Hollywood here we come.
- 0:12She looks like she has [bleep] on the bottom of her pants.
- 0:14Everybody gets a new costume every week and I get [bleep]..
- 0:17I'm using a hotel chair, for god sakes.
- 0:20But if this was anybody else, they'd
- 0:21have a hot pink [bleep] chair with rhinestones all over it.
- 0:25ABBY (VOICEOVER): Coming up on "Dance Moms."
- 0:27Ladies, here we are in Los Angeles, California,
- 0:30the city of dreams.
- 0:32[screaming]
- 0:34[music playing]
- 0:34Surprise.
- 0:36Hi everybody.
- 0:38Alls I want is for my kids to get good choreography.
- 0:42For you to be unhappy with your choreography is a joke.
- 0:46ABBY (VOICEOVER): Right in the middle of rehearsal
- 0:48I get a phone call from my mom.
- 0:49I am here and my mother is in a hospital.
- 0:53How about if you do this dance for Ms. Miller?
- 0:55OK
- 0:59[MUSIC - NIKKO LOWE, "LIVING ON THE DANCE FLOOR"]
- 1:02(SINGING) Get up, get on the floor,
- 1:05my world is with my girls, living on the dance floor.
- 1:11[music playing]
- 1:18ABBY (VOICEOVER): This week, I expect big things
- 1:20from Hollywood.
- 1:21Thank you
- 1:22Finally.
- 1:23ABBY: While we're here, we rented the same studio
- 1:25that Britney Spears and Lady Gaga rehearse in.
- 1:29Nothing's too good for my girls.
- 1:30[whistle] Let's go, come on, no time to waste.
- 1:36Ladies, here we are in Los Angeles, California,
- 1:39for the iHollywood national finals.
- 1:42And you are in the city of dreams.
- 1:46LA is our last competition before the final nationals,
- 1:48of course we want to do well here.
- 1:50We want to set the tone for what we're going to do in Tahoe.
- 1:52There are going to be children that you recognize.
- 1:56The kids that are in movies.
- 1:58The kids that are on television.
- 1:59These kids here in Los Angeles audition on a weekly basis.
- 2:03They are pros.
- 2:05IHollywood is relatively small because it draws
- 2:09a very select group of people.
- 2:12People that really want to work professionally in the industry.
- 2:15So the competition is very small but fierce.
- 2:18Maddie, your mom's not here again.
- 2:20We all make choices.
- 2:22She chose to be away instead of being here with you.
- 2:25ABBY (VOICEOVER): Melissa's not here at iHollywood.
- 2:27She's spending time with her boyfriend.
- 2:29All of those things that go into motherhood, those
- 2:32are the things that Melissa trusts me with her children.
- 2:34So the two of you are going to be with me this week.
- 2:37And you may get to do things that everybody else doesn't get
- 2:39to do.
- 2:40Melissa not being here is weird.
- 2:42I mean we're in Hollywood.
- 2:43She should be here with Maddie.
- 2:45I'm going to move on to our lovely pyramid.
- 2:47In the bottom row and I have--
- 2:50[dramatic music]
- 2:52Paige and Brooke, you will not be doing solos.
- 2:55You will be in the group number.
- 2:56Now I've had it out with your mom.
- 2:58You know what?
- 2:59From now on, get your own costumes made.
- 3:01I'll draw the sketch.
- 3:02Well then you have to hire the choreographer.
- 3:04Fine.
- 3:05Fine.
- 3:06She has told me that she can find better choreographers.
- 3:09I'm sure she can.
- 3:10This is Los Angeles, this isn't Pittsburgh.
- 3:12ABBY (VOICEOVER): I have made it perfectly clear.
- 3:14If Kelly wants her kids to do independently
- 3:17choreographed solos, she's not a part of the group number.
- 3:19So if Kelly wants to go ahead and enter Paige
- 3:22as an independent soloist then Paige
- 3:24is out of the group number.
- 3:25But please understand, if you go as an independent you're out,
- 3:29you're finished.
- 3:31KELLY: We're here in Hollywood and this
- 3:32is an important competition.
- 3:34And Abby thinks that it's OK for Paige not to have a solo.
- 3:37I mean, it's just ridiculous.
- 3:38Paige is in Hollywood.
- 3:39She needs a solo.
- 3:40She needs to be seen.
- 3:41So if I have to hire somebody to choreograph a solo
- 3:44her then that's what I'm going to do.
- 3:46Next I have Nia, Mackenzie duet.
- 3:51So Chloe, you're going to be doing a solo as well
- 3:54as the group routine.
- 3:55And no surprise, Maddie, you're going
- 3:59to be doing a solo this week.
- 4:00Now remember, you are undefeated.
- 4:03People are out to get you.
- 4:05You're the one to beat.
- 4:07I put Maddie back on top because we need to get back to winning.
- 4:10She is the glue that holds that group together.
- 4:12Does everybody understand how big of an opportunity this is?
- 4:17Those judges at iHollywood are going
- 4:20to be people that are in a capacity to hire you.
- 4:24They are the people that choreograph for television
- 4:26and for film.
- 4:27So it's very important that you step on stage like pros.
- 4:31Do you understand? - Yes
- 4:32Yes
- 4:33ABBY: All right, let's go.
- 4:34[upbeat music]
- 4:42We're good, let's see it from the top.
- 4:44[music playing]
- 4:46GIANNA: Pick a judge and stare at them on that.
- 4:48ABBY: Stare at them.
- 4:49"My Pumps" is the group routine.
- 4:52It's fun.
- 4:52It's artistic.
- 4:54It's very LA, Hollywood.
- 4:56There's some sharp little tweaky stuff in it.
- 4:59Brooke and Paige are involved in a group routine.
- 5:02Kelly can go ahead and try to enter them as an independent,
- 5:05and do some other choreographer's routine
- 5:06that I've never even seen before.
- 5:08But then they can't be in the group dance
- 5:10and they're not part of the Abby Lee Dance Company.
- 5:12How about Abby taking care of Maddie and MacKenzie?
- 5:16And her saying, you might do more things than the group.
- 5:19Well you know what the hell that's going to be.
- 5:21I
- 5:22Know what that going to be.
- 5:23Like she's going to be taking them out--
- 5:23To be seen.
- 5:24CHRISTI: Oh yeah.
- 5:25Getting their name out in LA, while we sit at the pool.
- 5:27KELLY (VOICEOVER): With Melissa being on this week
- 5:29and Abby taking care of Maddie and MacKenzie
- 5:32those girls are going to get way more attention from Abby
- 5:35than normal, if that's even possible.
- 5:37I really am still surprised that she picked her boyfriend
- 5:40over her kids.
- 5:41Like her kids are eight and seven.
- 5:44That's pretty big.
- 5:45CHRISTI (VOICEOVER): I would never
- 5:46leave Chloe in Abby's care, but whatever.
- 5:48If Melissa wants Maddie to keep dancing,
- 5:50She's got to keep the boyfriend happy,
- 5:51because he's the one paying the dance bills.
- 5:53Maybe she has to take care of that relationship
- 5:57to ensure that this continues.
- 5:59My boyfriend knows how much I spend on dance because he signs
- 6:02the checks.
- 6:05I guess a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do.
- 6:07How about you?
- 6:09How are you feeling, with Brooke and Page being at the bottom?
- 6:11I'm not surprised that they're at the bottom, just because
- 6:13of my argument with her.
- 6:14I think she thought I was kidding when I said
- 6:17that if my kids aren't doing a solo
- 6:20and she won't teach it to them, that I wasn't going
- 6:22to get somebody else to teach them a dance.
- 6:24I paid all this money to come here
- 6:25and she wants me to do a group dance.
- 6:26I don't think so.
- 6:27How are you going to do this?
- 6:29Like what are you going open up the yellow pages
- 6:31and look for like choreographers?
- 6:32I actually looked into some choreographers
- 6:34and I found two that have really good credentials.
- 6:36A person can only take so much and I think
- 6:39Kelly hit her breaking point.
- 6:41And you know what, good for Kelly.
- 6:42She's got more courage than I do,
- 6:44because I don't know if I would have the nerve to do that.
- 6:46So hopefully it'll work out.
- 6:49[upbeat music]
- 6:51ABBY: Right, left, whack, down, just rock.
- 6:56All right, come on girls, gather around.
- 6:59In order to get the kids revved up about the number
- 7:02and excited, and in order for them to feel what I wanted them
- 7:05to feel, we brought a special guest in.
- 7:08Girls, I have a big surprise for you.
- 7:10I have a visitor coming to see us
- 7:12and she knows everything about working that stage.
- 7:18Let's all welcome, Laquifa.
- 7:21[screaming]
- 7:22[MUSIC - SHANGELA LAQUIFA WADLEY, "THEY CALL ME LAQUIFA"]
- 7:23(SINGING) The postmodern pim-what?
- 7:25They call me Laquifa, the postmodern pim-what?
- 7:28Laquifa, what?
- 7:29Laquifa.
- 7:30And she was like, (SINGING) Laquifa, what?
- 7:33Laquifa, what?
- 7:35(SINGING) I said what?
- 7:36I said what?
- 7:37I said, I said, I said what?
- 7:38I was speechless.
- 7:39It was quite a moment.
- 7:40And it was quite an entrance.
- 7:42(SINGING) What, what, what, what, what, what, what, what,
- 7:45what.
- 7:46I have never seen a drag queen before.
- 7:49(SINGING) I am what, [inaudible]..
- 7:50I am--
- 7:51[cheering]
- 7:54ABBY (VOICEOVER): I really wanted Holly and Nia
- 7:56to see Shangela perform.
- 7:58Because I want that kid to embrace her ethnicity.
- 8:00[MUSIC - SHANGELA LAQUIFA WADLEY, "THEY CALL ME LAQUIFA"]
- 8:02(SINGING) They call me Laquifa, the postmodern pim-what?
- 8:05She can get cast in things that the other kids can't.
- 8:07I wouldn't even send them in for those roles.
- 8:10But Nia is a Black diva.
- 8:12And I wanted her to see Shangela,
- 8:13who is the Black diva.
- 8:15Well hi, everyone.
- 8:17My name is Shangela.
- 8:19Today Miss.
- 8:20Abby invited me in here to tell you guys
- 8:22a little bit about performance art, about being sickening,
- 8:26and about really working it when you're out there, right?
- 8:28Our kids are fascinated with Laquifa.
- 8:31It could be Santa Claus that walked in that door
- 8:33and I don't think she would've got--
- 8:35or he would have gotten a better reaction than Laquifa.
- 8:37Maybe I can teach you guys the death drop.
- 8:39Uh, yeah!
- 8:39Listen.
- 8:40The death drop really is safe.
- 8:42You're not falling on your back.
- 8:44But OK, so here we go. (SINGING) My pumps, [vocalizing]..
- 8:48My pumps.
- 8:49Just like that.
- 8:50And that's the move, OK?
- 8:52At least Shangela's not wearing an afro.
- 8:54And I am happy that Nia's finally
- 8:56getting some special attention from Abby.
- 8:58She really deserves it.
- 8:59So Nia, on the ending we're going
- 9:02to put that trick in there, OK?
- 9:04And let me tell you something, the crowd is going to go wild.
- 9:08So we're going to come on, and go--
- 9:10do your hip, hip, hip, hip, and then wipe, whew.
- 9:16And then death drop, pow.
- 9:19Yes, now instead of falling just here first and then laying,
- 9:26try just releasing going straight back, OK?
- 9:29They're going to say, oh my Lord, what did she do?
- 9:31You feel good?
- 9:32You're ready, I know you're ready.
- 9:34I'm like, oh my gosh.
- 9:35To be honest with you, my stomach is in knots.
- 9:37I have a lump in my throat.
- 9:39I'm not sure Nia can pull that off.
- 9:41[cars passing]
- 9:42[music playing]
- 9:44[bird crowing]
- 9:45[cow mooing]
- 9:47KELLY: Justice, why don't you and Vivi just hold hands?
- 9:50All right, OK smile, faces.
- 9:53While Abby and her precious little dancers
- 9:55are out in Hollywood, I'm at Candy Apples command center
- 9:57plotting my revenge.
- 9:59Contestants number 238 in a duet, Justice and Vivi.
- 10:04After evaluating our time with the Abby Lee dancers,
- 10:08and not feeling like Abby was utilizing Vivi the way
- 10:11she should have--
- 10:12Strum your guitar like your--
- 10:14Yeah, Slim Pickens.
- 10:16Go, go, go, go, go, go, head, head, head, head, head, head,
- 10:18head, head, head.
- 10:19I thought that maybe it was time that Abby
- 10:22see a little bit about what Candy Apples Dance Center was
- 10:24made of.
- 10:25OK, Vivi get that leg up, 1, 2, 3, 4.
- 10:28So we found out where the Abby Lee Dance Company was going
- 10:32to be heading and I went back into my dance studio
- 10:35and started to work on some team dances.
- 10:38So I just wanted to talk to you a little bit about the girl
- 10:41that we're going up against.
- 10:42Her name is Chloe and Abby holds a lot of stock in her.
- 10:45So here's the catch.
- 10:47I happen to have, in my hand, your solo music,
- 10:51which is gorgeous.
- 10:53But I also happen to know that it's the same solo
- 10:56music that Chloe is using.
- 10:58It's no secret that you can go online and find out
- 11:01what the songs are that the contestants are dancing to.
- 11:05So I chose Chloe's song for Taylor, just to psych them out.
- 11:10When I show up in Hollywood, that Abby Lee Miller is not
- 11:13going to know what hit
- 11:14[upbeat music]
- 11:17ABBY: Paige, point your opposite foot.
- 11:20Faces!
- 11:22GIANNA: Nia, I already told you about that dégagé.
- 11:24[phone ringing]
- 11:32ABBY (VOICEOVER): Right in the middle of my rehearsal here,
- 11:34I get a phone call from my mom.
- 11:36Hey Gia, I need you do something out here.
- 11:39ABBY (VOICEOVER): She has been admitted into the hospital.
- 11:41I don't know what's wrong yet.
- 11:43[somber music]
- 11:43I need somebody to
- 11:50GIANNA: All right.
- 12:01[upbeat music]
- 12:04Hi
- 12:05Hi, how are you guys?
- 12:07I want my kids to feel like they're special.
- 12:09It seems like every week that Maddie and Chloe are getting
- 12:12the best choreography, and my kids get whatever's left over.
- 12:15And I'm tired of it. I'm Kelly.
- 12:17Mike, it's so nice to meet you, Kelly.
- 12:18This is this my daughter, Paige.
- 12:19Hi, Paige.
- 12:20So this week in Los Angeles, I took it in my own hands
- 12:23and I'm hiring Paige her own choreographer.
- 12:26I think Abby just kind of pushes her aside
- 12:28and I wanted to try to get her some better choreography that
- 12:31will work for her.
- 12:32Totally.
- 12:33We're really short on time.
- 12:35I think she's a little nervous about that.
- 12:37Well, we'll work at whatever pace you need.
- 12:38And I've danced with Lady Gaga, Kesha, Adam Lambert,
- 12:43so you're in good hands.
- 12:45Don't [inaudible].
- 12:47Sickled back foot.
- 12:48I'm not stupid.
- 12:49I know what's going on behind my back.
- 12:50There's another choreographer right in the other room,
- 12:53working with Paige.
- 12:54ABBY (VOICEOVER): In the 30-plus years that Kelly has claimed
- 12:56to be at my studio, I've never completely trusted her loyalty.
- 13:01It kind of reminds me of Cathy's loyalty.
- 13:03We've got to show Mackenzie and Nia that you were so much
- 13:08more capable of what Abby gave you.
- 13:11Vivi had a duet that she didn't get to show what she was
- 13:15capable of.
- 13:16[MUSIC - ANALOGUE REVOLUTION, "SUMMER BOY"]
- 13:17(SINGING) Summer seems to go so fast,
- 13:18I guess the good times never last.
- 13:21Now dancing with Justice, they're
- 13:23doing so much more than her and Mackenzie did
- 13:26under Abby's watchful eye.
- 13:27We've got to prove to her that she didn't use us the way we
- 13:31should have been used.
- 13:33So when we get out to California and we go to the competition
- 13:36where the Abby Lee Dance Company is,
- 13:38we are going to have a showdown.
- 13:40[spinning sound effect]
- 13:41[upbeat music] You hit 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
- 13:46The arm will swing on 5.
- 13:48I'm kind of nervous for the new choreography
- 13:50because Mike doesn't know me like Abby does.
- 13:53And I'm scared Abby's going to be really mad at me.
- 13:55[somber music]
- 13:565, 6, 7.
- 14:00Mike is very busy.
- 14:01He told me he only has a short amount of time to teach her
- 14:03this number.
- 14:04We have today to learn the dance.
- 14:06[upbeat music]
- 14:07Straight across, boom, boom, boom.
- 14:111 and 2, 3, and 4--
- 14:14CATHY (VOICEOVER): I think that with Taylor going up
- 14:16against Chloe and having the same song,
- 14:18We've got a shoo-in for a win.
- 14:20Five, six, seven, eight.
- 14:23Turn it one, two.
- 14:26Faster.
- 14:27Turn.
- 14:28I was assigned a solo called "Dream on a Star."
- 14:30And I want to have my big moment in LA
- 14:33and I want to win pretty badly.
- 14:34But then, I also have to remember I'm also having fun.
- 14:38Go right after the show.
- 14:40- Because your mom? - Yeah.
- 14:41Is she OK? Is she doing OK?
- 14:46HOLLY (VOICEOVER): Abby's mom is in the hospital.
- 14:48That's tough.
- 14:49It's hard to see your mother in the hospital
- 14:50not being able to walk.
- 14:51That's hard.
- 14:55I really wish I could be there with my mom,
- 14:58but I have to be here.
- 14:59I have a job to do.
- 15:00These mothers have no idea what sacrifices I make for them
- 15:04and their children.
- 15:05All of your other solos are pretty and elegant.
- 15:09This is not the case, yes?
- 15:12Maddie is doing a contemporary piece called "Disappear."
- 15:15And it's about a child who's being abused
- 15:18and eventually commits suicide.
- 15:20You're being abused.
- 15:22You want to disappear.
- 15:24You don't want anyone else to know.
- 15:27And you're finished and nobody knows
- 15:29you exist and nobody cares.
- 15:32It's a very mature piece.
- 15:34Some would think it's too mature for an 8-year-old.
- 15:37But I think she's ready to handle this.
- 15:39When they see you come out on stage
- 15:41they should say, oh my God that poor little girl.
- 15:43I'm doing is a solo this week and it's a very serious number.
- 15:47Abby told me that my acting skills
- 15:49have to be even more than my dance skills.
- 15:52KELLY: Paige, you really have to work it.
- 15:54That's the whole thing.
- 15:55Use your attitude, be sexy.
- 15:58Show Miss Abby that look, I learned this cool dance
- 16:01without you.
- 16:02That's what you need to show her.
- 16:04The dance Mike was choreographing
- 16:05had a lot of body movement in it.
- 16:08It wasn't a lot of technique and Paige just
- 16:10seemed a little tense.
- 16:12So I kept trying to get her to just loosen up and relax.
- 16:15Your body should move with the music.
- 16:18I think you're just scared of something.
- 16:20I don't know if you're scared of yourself.
- 16:22Or you're scared of Abby, you're scared of this choreography
- 16:24because it's new and not familiar to you.
- 16:27He's right.
- 16:28[intense music]
- 16:29You can smell it from a mile away.
- 16:31I'm not judging you.
- 16:32Your mom's not judging you.
- 16:33We just want you to do the best that you can, OK?
- 16:48Paige was so upset, she walked out and locked herself
- 16:51in the bathroom.
- 16:51I've never seen Paige like this.
- 16:53[paige crying]
- 16:54PAIGE: I don't want to do it.
- 16:55KELLY: Don't be upset.
- 16:56Paige, I'm not going to let you do it, if you're not ready.
- 16:59I promise.
- 17:01Paige is upset for a few reasons.
- 17:03She's upset that Abby's going to be disappointed in her
- 17:05or mad at her for hiring another choreographer.
- 17:08And she's also upset that we have today to learn the dance.
- 17:15Who wants a mediocre kid?
- 17:16Every time one of my students step on stage,
- 17:18it's my name out there.
- 17:20They are representing me.
- 17:21But in this particular instance, you know what?
- 17:23Let Kelly go ahead.
- 17:25Let her kids represent her.
- 17:26Let's see where they get.
- 17:27[paige crying]
- 17:32As soon as Paige stands on stage
- 17:34and forgets the choreography again,
- 17:35Kelly's going to regret her decision.
- 17:37If you're not ready to do it tomorrow,
- 17:38we just won't dance tomorrow, OK?
- 17:45[upbeat music]
- 17:48ABBY: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.
- 17:51Here we are rehearsing for iHollywood.
- 17:53My girls are going to be performing for big time casting
- 17:56agents.
- 17:57I don't have time for Kelly's drama.
- 17:591, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.
- 18:02[sighing] God almighty.
- 18:04OK, you don't need be in here. You don't need to be in here.
- 18:07You don't need to be in here.
- 18:08Abby, I want my kids to still be in the groups.
- 18:10You can't do that.
- 18:12And you said, then I'll go as an independent.
- 18:14I'm doing the group dance and I'm
- 18:17doing a solo as an independent.
- 18:18It doesn't work that way.
- 18:21You can't register as part of a group and as an independent.
- 18:24If you go as an independent, then you're out.
- 18:26I want to make it perfectly clear,
- 18:28when I enter a competition, those are my numbers.
- 18:31Those are my routines.
- 18:32I am not going to let Paige turn around
- 18:35and do some other choreographer's routine
- 18:37that I've never even seen before, under my name.
- 18:39Not going to happen.
- 18:41I'm not going to put somebody on my stage
- 18:42that I haven't even seen their dance, under my name.
- 18:45They love to be in the group numbers.
- 18:46They want to be with their friends.
- 18:48They want to be with you.
- 18:49But if you do that, then you're not a part of the group.
- 18:52If you register your kids as an independent,
- 18:54they can't be part of the group.
- 18:55Abby, alls I want is for my kids to get good choreography.
- 19:03For you to be unhappy with your choreography is a joke.
- 19:07I have done brilliant work for her, adorable work.
- 19:10People call me after the competitions,
- 19:12I want that music.
- 19:13Oh where did you get that costume?
- 19:15And now suddenly she's going to find something better?
- 19:17[intense music]
- 19:18I don't know.
- 19:19I mean just that one little thing
- 19:20to make them feel special.
- 19:21But I wasn't put on this Earth to make her feel special.
- 19:24I was put on this Earth to make her dance.
- 19:27Kelly just doesn't get it.
- 19:28Her kids do not pick up quickly.
- 19:31She thinks that if she had somebody to work with her kids
- 19:34every single week for a half an hour,
- 19:36that their solos would be winning like Maddie's.
- 19:39And I taught her a great routine.
- 19:41You didn't even look at it.
- 19:47[music playing]
- 19:51Right here, babe.
- 19:53I'm taking Maddie to lunch because Melissa's not around,
- 19:56and all the moms are doing stuff with their children.
- 19:58So I thought we would go to lunch together and talk
- 20:01about her career, talk about what she wants in the future.
- 20:04What else do you want to do?
- 20:06You just keep winning everything.
- 20:07I want to be on Broadway.
- 20:08ABBY: You want to be on Broadway?
- 20:10What about, like, here?
- 20:11We're in LA.
- 20:12Like, you don't think you could be in a movie?
- 20:15I really see Maddie having a future.
- 20:16She could have her own television show.
- 20:18You know, she has it all.
- 20:19She has what it takes and she wants it.
- 20:22You know, they put my mom in the hospital in Florida.
- 20:25Did you hear that? - Mm-hmm.
- 20:26So I'm kind of missing her like you're missing your mom.
- 20:28My mom, the one and only Maryen Lorrain is home.
- 20:32[laughter] Hey.
- 20:34ABBY: I'm an only child.
- 20:35So my mom and I, the two of us, we're a team.
- 20:38And we only have each other in this world.
- 20:41That's it.
- 20:42So it's very difficult for me to be away from her.
- 20:45I have find out how my mom is doing.
- 20:47MADDIE (VOICEOVER): I'm sad that Abby's mom is in the hospital.
- 20:50It makes me miss my mom.
- 20:51I don't know if she'll pick you.
- 20:53They might have her doing tests or something.
- 20:56Hey, Mom.
- 20:57How you doing?
- 21:01ABBY: So so?
- 21:05Pain?
- 21:07ABBY: It's still killing you?
- 21:10ABBY: They still haven't given you anything to eat?
- 21:15ABBY: It's been a really rough day for me.
- 21:17I think sometimes the moms forget that I have a life, too,
- 21:19and I don't need their crap.
- 21:21I don't want to hear Kelly complaining and whining
- 21:24that she doesn't get special treatment.
- 21:26Frankly, I've had it.
- 21:27[music playing]
- 21:34And remember what I always tell you.
- 21:36When you walk off that stage, the girl after you
- 21:39better think it's the best performance of your life.
- 21:42This is our last competition before the big final Nationals
- 21:45in Lake Tahoe.
- 21:46So it's important as a group.
- 21:47It's important to the kids.
- 21:49It's important that they be seen.
- 21:50[music playing]
- 21:54We came, we saw, we kicked apples.
- 21:57We've come all the way from Ohio to LA,
- 22:00and I've put a lot of eggs in one basket coming here.
- 22:03I want to prove to Abby that we are the better team.
- 22:07Hmm.
- 22:08I know.
- 22:08Let's go.
- 22:09Opera boy and girl. (SINGING) Ah!
- 22:11(SINGING) Ah!
- 22:12CATHY: OK, hm.
- 22:14If Candy Apples and the Abby Lee Dance Center clashed,
- 22:17it could be like a boxing match.
- 22:21I don't know.
- 22:22Maybe it's something I can do.
- 22:24Maybe it's something I need to do.
- 22:27Surprise!
- 22:31Hi.
- 22:32Hi.
- 22:32Hello.
- 22:34CATHY: Hi, everybody.
- 22:35What are you doing here?
- 22:36I have something for you.
- 22:37ABBY: Are you, like, here in the hotel?
- 22:39Are you at the convention or the--
- 22:40CATHY: I am here in the hotel. I don't like the hotel.
- 22:42ABBY: Cathy walks into our dressing room.
- 22:45Out of nowhere, like thin air, she shows up.
- 22:48And I'm like, what are you doing here?
- 22:49I don't think that woman has ever been out of Ohio before.
- 22:52Suddenly, she's in LA?
- 22:54CATHY: I do want to introduce you to somebody.
- 22:56This is Justice.
- 22:57And I would like you to be introduced to Taylor.
- 23:01Taylor is a three time title winner.
- 23:03Can you tell them what titles you've won?
- 23:05Junior Miss Dynamite, Junior Miss KAR and Junior Miss
- 23:08Nexstar.
- 23:09CHRISTI: I guess Cathy flew Taylor across country to go
- 23:12head-to-head against Chloe.
- 23:14God's sakes, leave my kid alone.
- 23:16CATHY: Vivi and Justice are going
- 23:17to be doing a duo together.
- 23:19And I think, Mackenzie and Nia, you guys are going
- 23:23to be competing against them.
- 23:25So that should be pretty interesting.
- 23:26HOLLY: She was here to challenge us,
- 23:28and to basically put our noses in, like, my kids will
- 23:32do better than you.
- 23:33Surprised to see you here, Cathy.
- 23:34CATHY: Yeah.
- 23:36I thought you were with dance for the season.
- 23:37CATHY: Well, you know, I'm here because I remember
- 23:39a certain somebody told me to bring it on.
- 23:41So consider it brought.
- 23:42KELLY: Let's bring your studio-- CATHY: You know what?
- 23:45Bring it on, babe. - --to a competition we go to.
- 23:47Bring it on! KELLY: Bring It on, Cathy.
- 23:48Bring it on!
- 23:49ABBY: Cathy, you don't even come to LA.
- 23:50CATHY: Well--
- 23:52ABBY: Like, you do all those competitions in Ohio.
- 23:53CATHY: Gosh. Here, wait, let me pinch myself.
- 23:54I'm here. - Well, it's--
- 23:55CATHY: We've never done it before so we wanted to try it
- 23:58and, you know, just kind of kick around a couple new pieces
- 24:01of choreography-- fresh choreography, not old, boring,
- 24:05dated choreography.
- 24:06I, on the other hand, don't have the philosophy of just
- 24:09keep using the same tired stuff because it works.
- 24:13ABBY: Then she started on my choreography.
- 24:16Who does that to another professional?
- 24:18Her daughter didn't know her right foot from her left.
- 24:21She could do a heel stretch holding her leg the wrong way.
- 24:23That's it.
- 24:24I have kids working all over the place.
- 24:26I can walk into any club--
- 24:27- And so we've heard. - Yes.
- 24:29CATHY: And so we've heard.
- 24:30And kids that are working, too.
- 24:31- Name them. - OK.
- 24:33Because I've never heard of one of them.
- 24:34Well, I have Loris, who is in New York City.
- 24:36- Doing what? - I have Matt--
- 24:36- What show? - Well--
- 24:37Tell me what Broadway show she's in.
- 24:38She's not in a Broadway show.
- 24:39Failure!
- 24:45[music playing]
- 24:46You told me to bring it on.
- 24:47You told me to bring it on.
- 24:49So consider it brought.
- 24:50Good luck.
- 24:51Yeah, and take it all the way back to Ohio, too.
- 24:54Great.
- 24:55Now I have two traitors.
- 24:56First it was Kelly and the choreographer,
- 24:58now I have Cathy and her rotten little apples.
- 25:01I need to get it together and focus on what I came here
- 25:04to do--
- 25:04make my kids' dreams come true.
- 25:07Bring it on, girlfriend.
- 25:08Bring it on.
- 25:09ABBY: Chloe, we're going against them.
- 25:11MADDIE: Bring it, Candy Apples.
- 25:13Go.
- 25:17CATHY: Vengeance is always fun.
- 25:19Is it vengeance?
- 25:20I would say it's artistic vengeance
- 25:22because I want her to see what Vivi's capable of.
- 25:25[music playing]
- 25:33KELLY: We only learned 30 seconds of Paige's solo
- 25:35yesterday.
- 25:36HOLLY: That's it?
- 25:37How did that person work out, the choreographer?
- 25:39We only got 30 seconds done, so I don't know how
- 25:42in the world we'll compete it.
- 25:43HOLLY: How come you didn't finish it?
- 25:45We ran out of time.
- 25:46HOLLY: Oh.
- 25:48How is that number, Paige?
- 25:52Did you learn the whole thing?
- 25:54Kelly made bad decisions.
- 25:56Bad parenting, once again.
- 25:58She's going to go behind my back,
- 25:59try to bring in other choreographers,
- 26:01and it backfired on her.
- 26:02And now she's a mess and doesn't know what to do.
- 26:04KELLY: I hired this choreographer yesterday.
- 26:06ABBY: Right.
- 26:08And they didn't have enough time to finish their dances.
- 26:12ABBY: You wanted an outside choreographer.
- 26:14I know that, Abby.
- 26:15You either need to pull out of the groups
- 26:16and go as an independent and do the numbers--
- 26:19KELLY: Yeah. - --and prove me wrong.
- 26:20- But if I was doing it-- - And they need--
- 26:21they need you to beat every other 13-year-old,
- 26:23and she needs to beat Chloe and Maddie.
- 26:25It's just blowing up in her face.
- 26:27KELLY: (CRYING) I'm not doing it to my kids.
- 26:28I'm not.
- 26:30Don't cry!
- 26:31It's all your fault to begin with.
- 26:32Why can't you just be smart?
- 26:35ABBY: So Kelly pulls Paige's solo, again.
- 26:37You know what, Kelly?
- 26:38Make up your mind.
- 26:39Do you want the kid to dance or don't you?
- 26:41[music playing]
- 26:49Maddie is doing a very controversial number.
- 26:51I'm not sure who's judging, here.
- 26:53I don't know if they're going to feel the passion.
- 26:55I don't know if she can make them cry.
- 26:57You have been consistent.
- 26:58You've been amazing.
- 27:00You've inspired me to be a better teacher.
- 27:02This is a really important.
- 27:03Yes?
- 27:05This could mean big things for the rest of your life.
- 27:07Yeah?
- 27:08Got it?
- 27:09OK.
- 27:10So make sure that you know that you can act.
- 27:13I want them to feel bad for the little girl.
- 27:15I want them to see that abused child.
- 27:17Yes?
- 27:18And I don't want it to be controversial.
- 27:19I want it to be so good that they have to love it.
- 27:21Got it?
- 27:22Mm-hmm.
- 27:23You're making me cry.
- 27:25OK.
- 27:29ABBY: I was very emotional.
- 27:30And I looked at her and it just brought tears to my eyes
- 27:33and I welled up.
- 27:34And I thought, kid, you can do this.
- 27:35You have what it takes.
- 27:37Go out there and just perform this number.
- 27:40[music playing]
- 27:44ANNOUNCER: Please welcome, from the Abby Lee Dance Company,
- 27:47this is Maddie.
- 27:48And she'll be performing "Disappear."
- 27:50[cheering and applause]
- 27:55[music playing]
- 28:02(SINGING) I think I'm drowning but I don't know where the air
- 28:08is or which direction to go.
- 28:14Please get me out of here so I can disappear from the life I'm
- 28:25leading.
- 28:26I don't think they'll be needing me anymore.
- 28:36Don't care if they're crying.
- 28:40This water is just like air.
- 28:56[cheering and applause]
- 29:03MADDIE: When I stepped off stage I started to cry because I was
- 29:07kind of sad that my mom wasn't there to watch me.
- 29:10[music playing]
- 29:13CATHY: Smile, smile, smile.
- 29:15I need to fluff that skirt before we go.
- 29:18Where do we check in?
- 29:19I've come here to rattle the Abby Lee dancers.
- 29:23And, honestly, we have to win.
- 29:26We can't lose.
- 29:27We cannot lose because it can't backfire in my face.
- 29:30Do good and smile.
- 29:31OK.
- 29:32But, most importantly, have fun.
- 29:34Have fun. Go.
- 29:36VIVI-ANNE: I think I'm going to beat Mackenzie and Nia
- 29:38because they just do acro, back bends and lunging.
- 29:43ANNOUNCER: And now, from Candy Apples Dance Studio
- 29:45in Ohio, Vivi-Anne and Justice.
- 29:49[music playing]
- 29:57CATHY: Woo!
- 29:59(SINGING) Come on, baby, put your dress shoes on.
- 30:01Gonna take you out.
- 30:02We're gonna have some fun.
- 30:03Come on, baby.
- 30:04Hey, we're gonna rock and roll.
- 30:07Come on, baby.
- 30:08Hey, we're gonna rock and roll.
- 30:13CATHY: Woo!
- 30:14[cheering and applause]
- 30:18ABBY: Is Abby Lee Miller really supposed
- 30:19to be threatened by kids from Candy Apple in Ohio?
- 30:22For real?
- 30:26My sister's going to take those apples down.
- 30:29ANNOUNCER: Please welcome, from Abby Lee Dance Company, Nia
- 30:31and Mackenzie.
- 30:33[applause]
- 30:34[music playing]
- 30:56[cheering and applause]
- 30:59[music playing]
- 31:14[cheering and applause]
- 31:18ABBY: Mackenzie and Nia were good partnering.
- 31:21I thought their skills were great together.
- 31:23I'm very proud of them.
- 31:24[music playing]
- 31:28ANNOUNCER: Next, can we have number three to the floor?
- 31:30CATHY: So here's the big moment.
- 31:31We are going to do the same song that the Abby Lee Company is
- 31:34using for Chloe.
- 31:36And I'm feeling very confident.
- 31:37ANNOUNCER: From Candy Apples Dance Studio, it's Taylor.
- 31:40[applause]
- 31:41[music playing]
- 31:59(SINGING) We won't stop.
- 32:05We won't--
- 32:10I'm backstage, helping Chloe change,
- 32:12and I hear Chloe's music.
- 32:13So I'm thinking, is she supposed to be on stage?
- 32:16Are they playing her music?
- 32:17Did she miss her call?
- 32:18Like, I'm very confused.
- 32:19What's up?
- 32:21That's your music.
- 32:26[music playing]
- 32:35CHRISTI: I'm backstage, helping Chloe get ready for her solo,
- 32:38and I hear Chloe's music playing.
- 32:40I don't know.
- 32:42So I'm thinking, is she supposed to be on stage?
- 32:43Are they playing her music?
- 32:45Did she miss her call?
- 32:52[cheering and applause]
- 33:00CHLOE: I think Cathy purposely did that to steal my thunder,
- 33:03I guess, and to make it seem like if we have the same music,
- 33:08well, it depends on who's dancing better.
- 33:10CHRISTI: I guess Cathy looked up the schedule online, saw
- 33:12Chloe's name, saw her music, and decided
- 33:15to choreograph something to it.
- 33:16Who does that?
- 33:20ANNOUNCER: Please welcome, from Abby Lee
- 33:22Dance Company, this is Chloe doing her number
- 33:25to "Dream on a Star."
- 33:26ABBY: Come on, kid.
- 33:27Come on.
- 33:27[music playing]
- 33:34(SINGING) Hush, now.
- 33:36Don't speak.
- 33:37This is just the start.
- 33:41Words can't save us, spinning in my heart.
- 33:48Yes!
- 33:50CHRISTI: As in watching Chloe dance, more than anything,
- 33:52I want her to come off that stage and think to herself,
- 33:55I did the best that I can do.
- 33:57(SINGING) Dream on a star.
- 34:01ABBY: Come on, face!
- 34:04CHRISTI: At this point it's about Chloe's self-confidence.
- 34:08And I wanted her to come off that stage
- 34:09and feel good about herself.
- 34:11ABBY: Push!
- 34:12[applause]
- 34:15(SINGING) Dream, dream, dream.
- 34:21ABBY: Yeah!
- 34:23(SINGING) Dream, dream.
- 34:29[cheering and applause]
- 34:32ABBY: Good girl.
- 34:35[music playing]
- 34:39KELLY: OK.
- 34:41Well, we need to remember what LaQuifa taught us.
- 34:43CHRISTI: And it goes the same for a sassy number, as well as
- 34:48a pretty number.
- 34:48You still have to own it.
- 34:50ABBY: The stakes are really high.
- 34:51We have to do well in Hollywood.
- 34:53We have one more week until the National conclusion
- 34:57in Lake Tahoe.
- 34:58ANNOUNCER: Please welcome, from Abby Lee
- 35:00Dance Company, "My Pumps."
- 35:02(SINGING) Come on, girls.
- 35:04Do you believe in pumps?
- 35:06'Cause I got something to sing about,
- 35:08and it goes something like this.
- 35:10My pumps get me into it.
- 35:12My pumps lift me up.
- 35:14My pumps take me up so high, I can never get enough.
- 35:19HOLLY: So I'm watching the group number.
- 35:20I'm worried, really, from the start of the performance,
- 35:23is Nia going to be able to pull of the death drop.
- 35:24(SINGING) When I feel a five inch heel, Lord Jesus,
- 35:26I am home.
- 35:28You can't bring me down 'cause I've got the shoes--
- 35:32you can't bring me down--
- 35:34to take away my blues.
- 35:36Pumps, pumps, pumps, pumps, pumps, my pumps, pumps,
- 35:44my pumps, pumps, pumps, pumps, pumps, my pumps.
- 35:50[cheering and applause]
- 35:54Nia nailed the death drop, and I thought that "My Pumps" was
- 35:57super fabulicious.
- 35:58[cheering and applause]
- 35:59HOLLY: That's what I was worried about-- will she nail it.
- 36:02And she did.
- 36:03I heard gasps in the audience.
- 36:05The judges were like, wow.
- 36:07If you're not prepared for it, it's a shocker.
- 36:10ANNOUNCER: We'll begin our awards ceremony
- 36:12with ajudications from our pre-qualifying competition.
- 36:15ABBY: The judging in Hollywood is really intense.
- 36:18This is an important competition for us,
- 36:20not just because we're here in Hollywood
- 36:22but because we're up against Candy Apples.
- 36:24And there is no way that I'm not going to beat Cathy.
- 36:27[cheering and applause]
- 36:32CATHY: There was suspense for me because, honestly, we
- 36:35have to win.
- 36:36We cannot lose.
- 36:38ANNOUNCER: Winning Duo/Trio Open going to Abby Lee Dance
- 36:44Company.
- 36:45[cheering and applause]
- 36:49ABBY: I thought that Nia did a great job.
- 36:51I think the two of them worked well together.
- 36:53And, newsflash, Vivi-Anne and her little boy a partner--
- 36:59where did they place?
- 37:01ANNOUNCER: Junior Solos Oscar category
- 37:07going to Abby Lee Dance Company, act number 33,
- 37:10"Dream on a Star," with a first place title.
- 37:12[cheering and applause]
- 37:14CATHY: I know that I, you know, boasted around to Abby
- 37:17or put it out there that, you know,
- 37:19we were going to have this huge battle.
- 37:20So, really, I'm feeling upset Taylor got beat.
- 37:25[music playing]
- 37:26Your top two scoring Oscar Mini Soloists--
- 37:30in second place, from Abby Lee Dance Company,
- 37:33in the genre of lyrical routine, "Disappear."
- 37:36[cheering and applause]
- 37:40ABBY: They announced Maddie as second place.
- 37:41My throat, like, closed up.
- 37:43I was shocked, utterly shocked.
- 37:45I looked at the three judges who were giving out the awards
- 37:48and thought, what were you thinking?
- 37:50MADDIE: I thought I danced the best,
- 37:52but I was still happy with second place.
- 37:55When we went to another competition once,
- 37:58the girl that was against me didn't even make it in top 10.
- 38:02And everybody gets a chance to win,
- 38:05so I felt happy for the other girl.
- 38:07Moving along to your top three scoring Junior Oscar Small
- 38:10Groups--
- 38:11in third place, from Abby Lee Dance
- 38:16Company in the genre of open, going to act number 50,
- 38:19"My Pumps."
- 38:20[cheering and applause]
- 38:23ABBY: I'm sitting there.
- 38:24I get slapped in the face with the Maddie thing,
- 38:27then "My Pumps" gets third.
- 38:30Third?
- 38:31Unacceptable.
- 38:32The Abby Lee Dance Company does not
- 38:33place third in an overall national competition.
- 38:36No way, no shape, no how, not going to happen.
- 38:39And I really wanted a big one here
- 38:41so that we would walk in with our heads held high,
- 38:43like we were on top of the world.
- 38:45And now that didn't happen.
- 38:48Here comes trouble. You got it.
- 38:49Right? - Hi, guys.
- 38:50Congratulations.
- 38:52KELLY: I think Cathy's an idiot.
- 38:53She came to our studio, wanted to be part of our team.
- 38:56Obviously, her daughter couldn't hang with us.
- 38:58So she goes back home and comes and competes against us here?
- 39:02You know what, guys?
- 39:04I can go home and fix what my kids did wrong.
- 39:09You can't fix [bleep].
- 39:10KELLY: Well, you can't get any better than first, Cathy.
- 39:13ABBY: I cannot believe that's a grown adult that teaches
- 39:18children.
- 39:19They think I'm bad?
- 39:21CATHY: We may not have done as well in Hollywood
- 39:23as I had hoped for, but the Abby Lee Dance Company has not seen
- 39:27the last of my Candy Apples.
- 39:29I want to say one thing.
- 39:30I was very proud that you stood on that stage,
- 39:33you took that second, you smiled,
- 39:34you had fun with your friends.
- 39:35That even proved more of a professional
- 39:38than winning all the time.
- 39:40And, Kelly, out of all the crap about the choreographers--
- 39:42KELLY: All I want is for you to make my kids
- 39:46feel like, before they go on stage, that you care that they
- 39:50do well. - But, see--
- 39:51KELLY: I'm not a dance teacher.
- 39:52--you're enabling the stupidity.
- 39:54You are enabling them to not be able to go in
- 39:56and work on their own. KELLY: OK, but--
- 39:58It's still a game.
- 39:59And that's OK because you keep telling them it's OK.
- 40:02Then I'll tell you what--
- 40:03I am here and my mother is in a hospital.
- 40:06And I'm here with your kid.
- 40:08CHRISTI: But I think what you're missing, honestly,
- 40:10because maybe you're not a mother,
- 40:11is that these children crave your approval just like they do
- 40:15their mothers. ABBY: That's right.
- 40:16CHRISTI: They do.
- 40:17And I want them to keep craving it.
- 40:18That's fine. Let's just leave it at that.
- 40:20ABBY: There's other kids that want to make a career out
- 40:21of it. KELLY: Keep throwing--
- 40:23You want my undivided attention
- 40:24but you don't want to be serious about it.
- 40:26KELLY: OK.
- 40:27Only reason I brought a choreographer in
- 40:28is because I want my kids to get the special attention.
- 40:31And you see where that got you.
- 40:32KELLY: So let-- let me not pay someone
- 40:35to do it and have Gianna do it the way
- 40:36she does it with Maddie. That's what I want.
- 40:38Maddie and Gianna have a special relationship.
- 40:39KELLY: That's what I want.
- 40:40Well, I want to have somebody here
- 40:41that has a special relationship with my daughter,
- 40:43to run her numbers the way she runs them with Maddie.
- 40:45I don't know.
- 40:46What did Kelly give you for Christmas?
- 40:47I don't need to buy Gianna something for Christmas.
- 40:49She's a [bleep] teacher!
- 40:50That language is not allowed in my school.
- 40:53I'm sorry, girls.
- 40:54When we get to Lake Tahoe, that's it.
- 40:56It's the end of the road for us.
- 40:58Third?
- 40:59How do we go from third to first in a week on the road?
