  6. 0:12Ronnie and Cynthia Watts, the parents of Chris Watts have broken their silence after Chris
  7. 0:18pleaded guilty to killing his pregnant wife, Shannan and his two daughters Bella and Celeste.
  8. 0:25Chris should have pleaded guilty to the killing of the girls in an attempt to avoid a death
  9. 0:32sentence.
  10. 0:33But Ronnie and Cynthia Watts do not believe their son murdered the little girls they are
  11. 0:37convinced Chris was railroaded into making his guilty plea and they want him to take
  12. 0:44his guilty plea back if he is innocent.
  13. 0:47Both parents of Chris Watts said they know their son isn’t a sociopath despite he has
  14. 0:54told them he killed his pregnant wife Shannan.
  15. 0:57Cynthia told the Denver Post she knows he has made the confession, but it is her belief
  16. 1:04he was railroaded into it.
  17. 1:06Tuesday Chris made the plea deal with prosecutors and this means he will not face the death
  18. 1:12penalty.
  19. 1:13But Cynthia told she has said to Chris not to confess to something he didn’t do.
  20. 1:19She believes Chris’ story that he killed Shannan after she had strangled Bella and
  21. 1:25Celeste.
  22. 1:26To ABC 7 Denver, Cynthia Watts has told she believes the lawyers were only thinking about
  23. 1:32saving her son’s life.
  24. 1:34But for her saving his life and a life in prison are not different.
  25. 1:38She said he is going to die in prison but she wants him to fight she don’t want him
  26. 1:44to take the plea deal she wants him to plead not guilty in the murders of the girls.
  27. 1:50Ronnie Watts told if he didn’t kill the girls he wants him to face that and let them
  28. 1:55prove otherwise.
  29. 1:56Ronnie also told they are stills looking for answers to a lot of questions regarding the
  30. 2:02case.
  31. 2:03In Ronnie’s opinion, everything happened too fast, from a case status to a plea.
  32. 2:09Prior Chris Watts had denied murdering Bella and Celeste.
  33. 2:12The plea deal was approved by Shannan’s family who has told they didn’t want to
  34. 2:17end his life as he ended their daughter’s and grandchildren’s lives.
  35. 2:22After the hearing, the family didn’t speak but they watched as the DA announced the outcoming
  36. 2:28of the hearing.
  37. 2:29After the hearing, Weld District Attorney Michael Rourke revealed Shannan’s family
  38. 2:34did not want Chris to be executed he told Shannan’s mom, Sandra had said he made the
  39. 2:41choice to take their lives and that she didn’t want to be in the position of choosing to
  40. 2:46take his.
  41. 2:48Rourke told one of the factors in the decision was the impending gubernatorial election which
  42. 2:54could determine whether or not a governor would even enforce the death penalty if it
  43. 3:00applied.
  44. 3:01Rourke took a stab at Colorado governor John Hickenlooper, who repeatedly had opposed the
  45. 3:08execution of death row inmate, Nathan Dunlap.
  46. 3:10Rourke said they explained the currently excising delays in the state of Colorado which is partly
  47. 3:17a result due to the actions of their current governor.
  48. 3:21They were strongly in favor of a resolution, in this case, the death penalty.
  49. 3:25Rourke tells this was the most important consideration to him in deciding how to proceed in this
  50. 3:32case.
  51. 3:33He continued telling he doesn’t know how he should have sat with Sandy in her kitchen
  52. 3:37asking her to commit the next 25 years of her life to the criminal justice system without
  53. 3:44any assurance that the sentence would ever actually be imposed,'
  54. 3:49Rourke told they had established a partial motive but would not say what that was.
  55. 3:55The victims' autopsy reports remain under seal.
  56. 3:59Rourke told he was 'sick' and 'saddened' by the case.
  57. 4:02He said he never wanted to have a press conference like this.
  58. 4:06There is no cause for celebration.
  59. 4:09Rourke told during the plea hearing the falsehood that Shannan had killed the girls was corrected
  60. 4:15and the spotlight he falsely tried to shine on Shannan now shines on him.
