- 0:00good day hello again my name is Alexis
- 0:03that I know I'm going to be talking to
- 0:05you today about a a specific case this
- 0:09is my case study evaluation number two
- 0:11and it's regarding Cynthia Cooper and a
- 0:15very big company known as world come it
- 0:20is for my legal ethical and social value
- 0:24values of business class with professor
- 0:27here at my Florida National University
- 0:29yeah okay so let's start so Cynthia
- 0:34Cooper she was a former VP for American
- 0:37multi-millionaire company world come
- 0:39Broadcom was at one point the second
- 0:42largest telecommunications company in
- 0:44the world it would by out its rivals in
- 0:49order to create a monopoly so that they
- 0:53would be the only ones in power in the
- 0:55telecom industry as worldly but known
- 0:58world come why is the fraud that led
- 1:00them to bankruptcy was even bigger so it
- 1:08took it was a Cynthia Cooper who
- 1:12unraveled the falsified information that
- 1:16the fraud that was being done it she was
- 1:19the one that revealed all this
- 1:21information the company was basically in
- 1:26their balance sheet they were making
- 1:29themselves look more profitable than
- 1:32what they actually were so in reality
- 1:37they were not as profitable as they
- 1:39seemed
- 1:40and this profitability allowed them
- 1:44certain easiness certain benefits that
- 1:48other companies that are not as
- 1:50profitable have so they were getting
- 1:53away with a lot of stuff also there was
- 1:56a four hundred million dollar check that
- 2:01went out to one of the employers
- 2:05and this was a check that was meant for
- 2:07reserves so if anything went wrong with
- 2:10the company that was that was money that
- 2:14was as part of the company's reserves so
- 2:20it is my position as a business
- 2:22administrator at world come to give my
- 2:26thoughts my recommendations on whether
- 2:30or not Cynthia Cooper should should
- 2:35follow one with what she's discovered it
- 2:41is my among my initial thoughts why as a
- 2:46business administrator I would not be
- 2:49aware of what is going on within my
- 2:52workplace so that kind of I don't know
- 2:56it's it's like in my head but kind of
- 3:01irrelevant I'm considering myself the
- 3:05business administrator for world comes
- 3:07so a little relevant I realized that I'm
- 3:12already putting myself in the in Cynthia
- 3:14Cooper's place and thinking how could I
- 3:17how did this continue how did it why
- 3:21didn't they stop it but when I think
- 3:25about me and her place like I'm kind of
- 3:29thinking about me in her place but at my
- 3:31workplace where there's 12 people
- 3:33working this is a multinational
- 3:35corporation so in order to make this
- 3:38decision
- 3:39miss Cooper needs to think about the
- 3:41facts she needs to consider every
- 3:45possibility she may be she's wrong maybe
- 3:47maybe the numbers are right and she
- 3:50should I don't know something but it's a
- 3:52multi-millionaire corporation so
- 3:55whatever she does it holds millions of
- 3:58dollars on her decision
- 4:03okay
- 4:05my advice to Miss Cooper would be to
- 4:09just really study the whole entire case
- 4:12make sure that the information that you
- 4:15are seeing double check it make sure
- 4:18that everything is what you are finding
- 4:21out dribble out possible hypotheses that
- 4:27could be lead on to what would happen
- 4:31next if you do whistle blow or do tell
- 4:37others about what you've discovered even
- 4:41consider maybe a pros and cons list to
- 4:44make sure that the the severity of your
- 4:46decision is in accordance with the
- 4:52benefits of the company because the the
- 4:58severity of the decisions holds a lot of
- 5:01high stakes and a lot of people will be
- 5:04affected from every angle also just a
- 5:11little extra is I because I am
- 5:14supposedly the business administrator to
- 5:18world come this can my recommendation
- 5:23can be a little bias because this can
- 5:25affect my job directly and what I decide
- 5:30to do with this information will also
- 5:32affect my image it what because the
- 5:37information has already reached my desk
- 5:39so whatever I decide to do it with it
- 5:43will get around so if I just keep it to
- 5:45myself they're gonna say I'm a part of
- 5:47it if I say go ahead and yeah do
- 5:52something about it then something also
- 5:56happens so whatever decision is made it
- 5:59has to be one that is sure one that is
- 6:02and benefit for the company directly
- 6:09if I decide to move forward with with
- 6:14whatever proceedings come I must be
- 6:18aware that police police will be
- 6:23involved that lawyers will be involved
- 6:25and once again this will have a negative
- 6:28image on the company as a content I
- 6:36would agree that the actions that drove
- 6:40miss Cynthia Cooper and her team to
- 6:42finally blow the whistle on this whole
- 6:44fraud what she was trying to do it was
- 6:48it can be morally it can be considered
- 6:52morally correct and because she was
- 6:55looking out for the company and rather
- 6:58than the employees and I do believe that
- 7:00miss Cooper's responsibility was with
- 7:03the company rather than the employee so
- 7:06at the end she didn't blow the whistle
- 7:10the company started going down from
- 7:13there and it went bankrupt so although
- 7:19it didn't have I think I think it would
- 7:25have been a little worse if she hadn't
- 7:28because it's just it's just a big
- 7:32decision to make
- 7:33um and I would just study everything
- 7:37make sure that the information that I'm
- 7:39that I'm seeing is the right one thank
- 7:42you
