Full transcript
- 0:00Hi everyone, and welcome back to my
- 0:02channel. In today's tutorial, I'm going
- 0:04to show you how to crochet this
- 0:06beautiful mesh long-sleeve top.
- 0:07>> [music]
- 0:08>> But before we start, let's quickly go
- 0:10over the materials you need. I use seven
- 0:12skeins in total of fine weight yarn,
- 0:13Rainbow Cotton by Hobbii, and a 3.5 mm
- 0:16crochet hook. The design is very
- 0:18customizable and can be made in any
- 0:20size. You can make it more fitted or
- 0:22more oversized, depending on the fit you
- 0:23prefer. Since we're crocheting the top
- 0:26from bottom to top in one piece, the fit
- 0:28mainly depends on your starting chain.
- 0:30Make sure your chain is about as wide as
- 0:32the widest part [music] of your chest,
- 0:33so the top isn't too tight to put on.
- 0:35Keep in mind that the fabric will
- 0:37stretch a little after blocking, so it's
- 0:39okay if the chain feels slightly snug at
- 0:41first. To start, create a starting chain
- 0:43that is divisible by [music] two.
- 0:45For reference, I started with 140
- 0:47chains, but you can adjust this number
- 0:49depending on the size and the fit you
- 0:51want.
- 0:52Before joining the chain, make sure it's
- 0:54straight [music] and not twisted. Then
- 0:56join it with a slip stitch into the
- 0:58first chain you made.
- 1:12To start row one, chain one [music] and
- 1:14turn.
- 1:20Now work [music] the other way around
- 1:22and place one half double crochet into
- 1:24each chain of your starting chain.
- 1:46>> [music]
- 1:54[music]
- 2:04>> At the end of the row, you should have a
- 2:06total of 140 half double crochets.
- 2:10Then join the row with a slip stitch
- 2:11into the first half double crochet of
- 2:13the row.
- 2:25And this is how your first round should
- 2:27look. [music] To start row two, chain
- 2:29four. This counts as one double crochet
- 2:31and one chain.
- 2:32>> [music]
- 2:32>> Turn your work, skip the first stitch,
- 2:35and make one double crochet into the
- 2:36next stitch.
- 2:51Then chain [music] one, skip one stitch,
- 2:53and work one double crochet into the
- 2:55next.
- 3:03Repeat this pattern across the row until
- 3:05you reach your starting point again.
- 3:42>> [music]
- 3:42>> To finish the round, chain one and make
- 3:44a slip stitch into the third chain of
- 3:45the starting chain [music] four.
- 3:55>> And this is how your first mesh round
- 3:56should look. To start round three, chain
- 3:59one and turn your work.
- 4:04Work a slip stitch into the first chain
- 4:05one space of the previous row.
- 4:14>> [music]
- 4:18>> Then chain four. [music]
- 4:20This counts as one double crochet and
- 4:22one chain again.
- 4:23Work one double crochet into the next
- 4:25chain one space. [music]
- 4:29For this round and for the following
- 4:31rounds, we will only work into the chain
- 4:33one spaces and not into the stitches.
- 4:35>> [music]
- 4:36>> Now, chain one and make one double
- 4:38crochet into the next chain one space.
- 4:43Repeat this pattern across the round.
- 4:48>> [music]
- 4:55[music]
- 5:06[music]
- 5:20>> When you reach the end, work one double
- 5:22crochet into the last space of the
- 5:24previous round. Chain one and join with
- 5:27a slip stitch into the third chain of
- 5:28the starting chain four.
- 5:36>> [music]
- 5:43>> From here on, just keep repeating the
- 5:45instructions of round three until you
- 5:47reach the desired length under your
- 5:49bust.
- 5:53>> [music]
- 6:14>> For reference, I worked 32 rows in
- 6:16total.
- 6:18The first row of half double crochets
- 6:20and 31 rows of the mesh stitch.
- 6:23You can crochet fewer rows for a cropped
- 6:25version or more rows for a longer mesh
- 6:27sweater.
- 6:33Once you've crocheted your desired
- 6:34number of rounds, try it on to make sure
- 6:36the fit feels right.
- 6:38>> [music]
- 6:38>> For reference, this section measures
- 6:40about 30 cm from the bottom to under the
- 6:42bust for me, [music] but keep in mind
- 6:44that the fabric will stretch a bit after
- 6:46blocking and also while wearing it. Now,
- 6:48we start shaping the armholes and divide
- 6:50the piece into a front and a back
- 6:52section. [music]
- 6:53Fold your work in half and mark the
- 6:54middle stitches on both sides with a
- 6:56stitch marker.
- 7:10Then, count four spaces from each side
- 7:12and place two additional stitch [music]
- 7:13markers on both sides to mark the
- 7:15armholes.
- 7:19If you want smaller or larger sleeves,
- 7:21you can simply count fewer or more
- 7:23spaces, which will make the front
- 7:24[music] and back sections smaller or
- 7:26larger.
- 7:37To finish the main part, [music] chain
- 7:38one, cut the yarn, and fasten
- 7:54Since we are creating [music] separate
- 7:55front and back parts, place two more
- 7:57stitch markers on the other side as
- 7:59well. Again, counting four spaces
- 8:01[music] from each side.
- 8:19>> [music]
- 8:19>> From now on, we will no longer work in
- 8:21the round. Instead, we will crochet the
- 8:23front and back parts separately.
- 8:25>> [music]
- 8:25>> Create a slip knot and attach your yarn
- 8:27in the first space after the stitch
- 8:29marker.
- 8:30>> [music]
- 8:33>> Then, continue working the mesh pattern
- 8:35as before.
- 8:36To start, chain four and work one double
- 8:39crochet into the next space. [music]
- 8:44>> [music]
- 8:54>> Then, chain [music] one and work one
- 8:56double crochet into the next.
- 9:05Keep repeating these steps until you
- 9:07reach the end of the row.
- 9:13>> [music]
- 9:19[music]
- 9:23>> To finish the row, work one last [music]
- 9:24double crochet into the last space
- 9:26before the stitch marker.
- 9:36From now [music] on, we will alternate
- 9:37between two different rows to keep the
- 9:39sides straight. Only the beginning and
- 9:41the end of the row will be different.
- 9:43Chain four [music] and turn.
- 9:49>> [music]
- 9:52>> Skip the first chain one space [music]
- 9:54of the previous row
- 9:55and work one double crochet into the
- 9:57next space.
- 10:00>> [music]
- 10:03>> Repeat the regular mesh pattern [music]
- 10:05until you reach the end of the row.
- 10:11>> [music]
- 10:28>> To finish the row, skip the last chain
- 10:30one space and make one double crochet
- 10:32into the third chain of the starting
- 10:33chain four from the previous row.
- 10:51To start [music] row 35, chain four and
- 10:53turn.
- 11:04For this row, start by working one
- 11:06double crochet into the first space of
- 11:09the row.
- 11:12Chain one and work one double crochet
- 11:14into the next space. [music]
- 11:16Repeat until you reach the end of the
- 11:18row.
- 11:39>> To finish row 35, [music] work one
- 11:41double crochet into the very last space
- 11:43of the row.
- 11:50Chain [music] one and work one more
- 11:52double crochet into the third chain of
- 11:54the chain four you made to start the
- 11:56previous row.
- 11:57>> [music]
- 12:10>> From now on, keep repeating row 34 and
- 12:1235 until you reach the length you need
- 12:15to cover your bust and reach the
- 12:16neckline. [music]
- 12:17For reference, I worked 44 rows in
- 12:19total.
- 12:21You can add even more rows for wider
- 12:23armholes or fewer rows for narrow
- 12:25armholes.
- 12:30>> [music]
- 12:31>> Once you finish the number of rows
- 12:33needed to cover the section from your
- 12:35bust up to the neckline, do not cut the
- 12:37yarn.
- 12:37>> [music]
- 12:38>> Instead, chain one, pull up a large
- 12:40loop, and leave it like that for now.
- 12:42Then, grab another skein of yarn to
- 12:43start working on the back part.
- 12:49Repeat the exact same instructions for
- 12:51the back as you just did for the front.
- 12:53>> [music]
- 12:53>> Start by creating a slip knot and attach
- 12:55the yarn in the first space after the
- 12:57stitch marker. Then, repeat the same
- 12:59steps.
- 13:04>> [music]
- 13:11[music]
- 13:20[music]
- 13:27[music]
- 13:31>> Once you finish the back part, you can
- 13:33remove all the stitch markers. Then,
- 13:35place the front and back parts together
- 13:37again [music] and secure them with the
- 13:38stitch markers.
- 13:53Try the top on to check the fit. If
- 13:55needed, you can still add more rows for
- 13:57a better [music] fit.
- 14:09>> [music]
- 14:14[music]
- 14:15>> At this point, my top measures 41.5 cm,
- 14:18but keep in mind that the fabric will
- 14:20stretch a bit by wearing it and also
- 14:22after blocking.
- 14:23To start the sleeve, grab your yarn
- 14:25[music] and begin the first sleeve.
- 14:27Chain one and join the front and back
- 14:29panels together with a slip stitch.
- 14:54Then, we continue by working the mesh
- 14:56pattern in the round, just like we did
- 14:58for the main part. Chain four, this
- 15:01counts as one double crochet and one
- 15:02chain.
- 15:08Now, you can [music] see how the armhole
- 15:09starts to take shape.
- 15:27>> Work one double crochet into the [music]
- 15:28next space.
- 15:39Turn one [music]
- 15:40and work one double crochet into the
- 15:41next space.
- 15:49Repeat that pattern all the way around.
- 16:45To finish the round, join with a slip
- 16:46stitch into the third chain of the
- 16:48starting chain four.
- 16:58And this is how the first round of your
- 16:59sleeve should look.
- 17:01From now on, we will repeat the same
- 17:03instructions we used to create the
- 17:05[music] body. Chain one and turn your
- 17:06work.
- 17:12>> [music]
- 17:16>> Work one [music] slip stitch into the
- 17:17next space.
- 17:22>> [music]
- 17:26>> Chain four, [music]
- 17:28and work one double crochet into the
- 17:29next space.
- 17:37Chain one, and work one double crochet
- 17:39into the next space. Repeat this pattern
- 17:41[music] all the way around.
- 18:06>> [music]
- 18:13[music]
- 18:18>> To finish round two, join with a slip
- 18:20stitch into the third chain of the
- 18:21starting chain four.
- 18:41Repeat round two until you reach your
- 18:43desired sleeve length.
- 18:45>> [music]
- 18:50>> For reference, I worked a total of 50
- 18:53rounds.
- 19:17>> After you finish [music] crocheting your
- 19:19desired snowflake, we will work one last
- 19:21round.
- 19:23Chain one and turn.
- 19:25Work one half double crochet into each
- 19:27space and each double crochet around.
- 19:29>> [music]
- 20:37>> Join the round with a slip stitch into
- 20:39the first half double crochet you've
- 20:40made.
- 20:45Chain one,
- 20:46>> [music]
- 20:46>> cut the yarn, and fasten off.
- 21:09>> [music]
- 21:12>> Now that the first sleeve is finished,
- 21:15simply grab the skin you left earlier
- 21:16and repeat the same steps to create the
- 21:18second [music] sleeve.
- 21:24To shape the neckline, create a slip
- 21:26knot and attach your yarn to one side of
- 21:29the [music] neckline.
- 21:38>> [music]
- 21:39>> Chain one and work one half double
- 21:41crochet into each space [music]
- 21:43and each double crochet round.
- 21:47Once we [music] reach our starting point
- 21:48again, join the round with a slip stitch
- 21:50into the first half double crochet you
- 21:52made.
- 21:56Chain one, [music] cut the yarn, and
- 21:57fasten off.
- 22:09>> [music]
- 22:22[music]
- 22:31>> And this is how the finished neckline
- 22:33should look.
- 22:35>> [music]
- 22:36>> Now, weave in all your ends and you're
- 22:38done.
