Full transcript

1. 0:00Last night, Ronaldo made a post, and
2. 0:02that post shook the entire football
3. 0:04world. Ronaldo is leaving the Portugal
4. 0:06camp. He hasn't given the reason yet.
5. 0:08He just said that when the time is
6. 0:10right, he will reveal everything. But
7. 0:12perhaps one thing is becoming clear now
8. 0:14. Ronaldo and Portugal's journey seems
9. 0:16to be nearing its end. And if that's
10. 0:18the case, it’s not just a footballer
11. 0:20leaving. A hero of an entire generation
12. 0:22is leaving. The same skinny boy who
13. 0:24arrived in 2003 wearing the Portugal
14. 0:26jersey and went on to make that jersey
15. 0:28his identity over the next two decades.
16. 0:31The Ronaldo who saw tears in Euro 2004
17. 0:33and, 12 years later in Euro 2016,
18. 0:36lifted that same trophy for his country
19. 0:38. The Ronaldo for whom people kept
20. 0:41saying every few years, "It's over, the
21. 0:43pace is gone, he's aged, he can't do it
22. 0:44anymore," and every single time, that
23. 0:46man gave football the same answer: "
24. 0:48Watch me." Manchester to Madrid, Madrid
25. 0:52to Turin, five Ballon d'Ors, five
26. 0:54Champions Leagues, 140 goals in
27. 0:55Champions League history, 146 goals in
28. 0:58234 matches for Portugal, most
29. 1:00appearances and most goals in men's
30. 1:02international football, Euro champion,
31. 1:04two-time Nations League champion, and
32. 1:06the first player in football history to
33. 1:08score in six different World Cups. But
34. 1:12these numbers aren't even Ronaldo's
35. 1:13true legacy. His greatest legacy is
36. 1:15perhaps that a whole generation didn't
37. 1:17learn "never give up" from a quote.
38. 1:19They learned it by watching Cristiano
39. 1:21Ronaldo. That is why, whether you are a
40. 1:23Messi fan, a Ronaldo fan, or consider
41. 1:25someone else the greatest in football.
42. 1:26It is hard to deny one thing. Football
43. 1:29would never have been the same without
44. 1:31Cristiano Ronaldo as we have seen over
45. 1:33the last 20 years. Thank you so much.
46. 1:35Thank you so much for everything.
