- 0:00welcome to lesson 11 this is the final
- 0:02and crucial step of documenting your
- 0:04drawings and turning them into a
- 0:06professional presentation in this lesson
- 0:08I will show you how to seamlessly
- 0:10collate your drawings using pages and
- 0:12Views and finalize your documentation
- 0:14for an architecture presentation using
- 0:17rayon's powerful tools whether you're
- 0:18documenting your drawings for a
- 0:20portfolio submission a design and access
- 0:22statement or some kind of reports I will
- 0:25guide you through the process of being
- 0:26able to find Clarity and consistency in
- 0:29your documentation
- 0:30and implementing your graphic style in
- 0:32order to produce a professional
- 0:34presentation so this is where it gets
- 0:36exciting so let's dive into
- 0:40it okay welcome to lesson 11 this is the
- 0:43penultimate lesson this is where we're
- 0:45going to show you how to document your
- 0:47drawings and put together a presentation
- 0:49to present to clients critiques
- 0:53Consultants team members and also to
- 0:55share your work across all of these
- 0:58different um stakeholders in the project
- 1:01so this is where the the whole course is
- 1:04going to be encapsulated and where we're
- 1:06going to finally demonstrate how you can
- 1:08go from a design to a drawing to a
- 1:11documentation in rayon and this is where
- 1:14rayon's ability to be able to document
- 1:18your drawings and to be able to put
- 1:20together an entire project from start to
- 1:21finish all in one software and I hope
- 1:23this final lesson gives you a good
- 1:25understanding of how you can begin to
- 1:26document your architecture projects now
- 1:28in the previous lesson we discussed
- 1:30styling your architecture drawings and
- 1:32how important graphic Styles can be and
- 1:35how a graphic style can drastically
- 1:37change the narrative and the story that
- 1:39you tell with your drawings you've
- 1:42you've seen with an inverted drawing it
- 1:43can be very powerful to indicate line
- 1:46weights and and detail a rendered plan
- 1:49is very useful to show a realistic
- 1:51interpretation of the drawing and the
- 1:54blue style was quite a subtle pastel
- 1:56color now styling your architecture
- 1:58drawings become even more important when
- 2:00you put together a document and you
- 2:02start collating your drawings in a
- 2:03presentation format because this is when
- 2:06your drawings will read as one as one
- 2:08pack and so you want to make sure
- 2:10there's a consistency throughout your
- 2:12drawings to make sure that your message
- 2:14is being consistently communicated
- 2:16throughout your drawing package and you
- 2:18will see as I scroll down here I have
- 2:21all of my drawings and Views set up and
- 2:24there is a consistency with the black
- 2:27and white tone that line weights with
- 2:30the touch of red and I will take you
- 2:33through this process of setting up this
- 2:35document and how you can create these
- 2:37canvases to be able to put together a
- 2:40documentation now first and foremost
- 2:42let's dive into canvases now there is
- 2:44two different types of canvases you've
- 2:47got a model canvas which if you come to
- 2:49the left hand side you select the layers
- 2:51tab you come to this plus button and you
- 2:54can create a model canvas now a model
- 2:57canvas is where you will be drawing your
- 2:59your drawings where you'll be drawing
- 3:01walls where you'll be adding Windows
- 3:03adding openings where you'll be adding
- 3:05all of your details to your
- 3:07architectural drawing and when you
- 3:08create a new model canvas the default
- 3:11line scale is 1 to 40 and you can also
- 3:14head down to the bottom right hand
- 3:16corner and you can change your unit type
- 3:19so we could change it to meters if we'd
- 3:21like and we can change the air is also 2
- 3:24square m so making sure that you are set
- 3:27up correctly to begin with now
- 3:29throughout this entire course I've been
- 3:31talking through the process of building
- 3:33your drawings and that has been done in
- 3:35model canvases so model canvases once
- 3:38again is where you've got your walls all
- 3:40of your details with the windows your
- 3:43furniture blocks hatches Etc and then a
- 3:46paper canvas is where the pages and
- 3:49Views come into play so when you create
- 3:51a paper canvas once again click in the
- 3:54plus button a paper canvas is where you
- 3:57begin to set up your pages and views and
- 4:00the line scale in this instance is one:
- 4:02one and once again you can come down to
- 4:05the bottom right hand corner and change
- 4:06your default units and area units now
- 4:10the way that paper canvases work is that
- 4:13you essentially will be creating views
- 4:15that are looking into or kind of given a
- 4:18viewport into your model canvases so for
- 4:21example if we select this plus button
- 4:24and we've got three options you can
- 4:25either create a new layer as we've
- 4:27demonstrated throughout the entire
- 4:28course you you can create a page which
- 4:30I'll come on to in a minute and then you
- 4:32can choose a view and what this is going
- 4:35to do is you can now choose one of your
- 4:37model canvases that you want to create a
- 4:39view into so for example for argument
- 4:43sake if we select drawings you will see
- 4:46that it's created this view here and
- 4:48when you come over to the right hand
- 4:49side you can choose the scale at which
- 4:51your view is going to be so if we wanted
- 4:54to change that to 1 to
- 4:57500 this drawing will now be coming in
- 5:00at 1 to 500 in this page and essentially
- 5:03the model canvas is the source canvas
- 5:06that you'll view porting into and
- 5:09another way to start positioning these
- 5:10views on your pages you can zoom in and
- 5:13out by scrolling and panning and if you
- 5:15want to stop your ability to be able to
- 5:17pan within the view you can select this
- 5:20mouse button at the bottom here and then
- 5:22you can't zoom in and out of the view
- 5:25instead you're zooming in and out of the
- 5:26page so you can then set this to 1 to
- 5:30250 and if you scroll in and out it
- 5:32won't change that scale which I think is
- 5:34a really useful tool to have now to show
- 5:36you how to override the visibility of
- 5:40your view you can select into the view
- 5:42by double clicking head over to the left
- 5:44hand side and you will see that you have
- 5:46all of your layers linked from your
- 5:48model canvas so you can then start
- 5:50turning some of these layers off for
- 5:52example we can change the level of
- 5:54information that we want to show in this
- 5:56drawing we can turn grid lines off for
- 5:59example we can turn the levels off you
- 6:02can really start filtering out some of
- 6:04the information that you don't
- 6:05necessarily want to show in your view
- 6:08and as you can see when you start
- 6:10adjusting the the visibility settings of
- 6:14your drawing you will see that the the
- 6:17tags will go purple and if you select
- 6:20the purple tag you can reset the
- 6:22overrides and it will reset back to the
- 6:25model canvas view Additionally you can
- 6:27select items Within in the view you can
- 6:30head over to the right hand side and
- 6:32start changing the style so you can
- 6:34change some of the line weights to Red
- 6:37you can change the line weights and as
- 6:40you will be able to see once again these
- 6:42items will then go purple which you can
- 6:44then reset by clicking the reset button
- 6:47so if you want to be able to change some
- 6:50of these Styles within the view you can
- 6:53change some of the hatches for example
- 6:56if you wanted to change particular item
- 7:00and this will only be specific to the
- 7:02view it won't change the model canvas
- 7:04and if you create a new view it will
- 7:06reset back to that model canvas settings
- 7:09so this is just a visibility override
- 7:12essentially within the view which is
- 7:14really useful if you want to show the
- 7:16same drawing with different levels of
- 7:18information at different scales and to
- 7:21quickly demonstrate how you can show
- 7:23your drawings at different scales with
- 7:24different levels of information you can
- 7:27select your view you can copy it over by
- 7:29by clicking CC so it's exactly the same
- 7:32view but they are not Linked In this
- 7:35particular view you could potentially
- 7:38double click in you could change this to
- 7:411 to 100 or maybe let's do 1 to
- 7:4550 or even one to
- 7:4820 and you can then position potentially
- 7:51a room maybe let's do the kitchen where
- 7:54we want to show some detail in that
- 7:56kitchen can then double click into that
- 7:58view and changing the visibility
- 8:01settings so this is essentially an
- 8:03override a visibility override so what
- 8:06you can do here is you can then begin to
- 8:08select some of these components for
- 8:09example we can change the style of the
- 8:12annotations or the dimensions we could
- 8:14change those Dimensions to Blue we could
- 8:17then change the color of the tags to
- 8:20Blue you can change the tags to
- 8:23different colors and you can also change
- 8:27fills Strokes Etc just as you would when
- 8:30you're changing any style in your
- 8:33drawings and as you can see you'll have
- 8:35two views at two different scales we've
- 8:37got 1 to 20 1 to 250 and you could even
- 8:41go into this more zoomed out View and
- 8:43for example if you want to say that you
- 8:45didn't need floor tags or some of these
- 8:48dimensions for example you can then
- 8:50start turning some of those items off
- 8:52when you have a zot more zoomed out plan
- 8:54where you don't necessarily need that
- 8:55level of information annotation and then
- 8:57when you have your zoom in plan you have
- 9:00that more detailed information with the
- 9:01dimensions Etc okay so if we now switch
- 9:04our attention to the presentation that I
- 9:06have built and I'm going to walk you
- 9:08through as you can see here on the left
- 9:11hand side in my layers tab I have all my
- 9:13canvases set up now this is the canvas
- 9:16that we've just created so I'm just
- 9:17going to right click that and delete it
- 9:19but here you can see that we have all of
- 9:21my drawings we've got all of the
- 9:23elevation sections plans so this is my
- 9:26model canvas for my drawings I then have
- 9:29the 1 to 500 site plan the 1 to 2500
- 9:34site plan we've got the precedent move
- 9:36board the project brief Etc all of the
- 9:40information that I have discussed and
- 9:43covered throughout the course I have
- 9:45them all here in model canvases within
- 9:48this model now this presentation
- 9:51document is a paper canvas as I've
- 9:53explained and this is simply where all
- 9:55my pages and Views are existing and I
- 9:58have some additional information in this
- 10:02canvas that are related to the
- 10:04presentation of the drawings and so we
- 10:07can see here as I quickly scroll through
- 10:11we have a project title so a it's called
- 10:15The Hill House simply because it's just
- 10:17a a house built into the hill um and
- 10:21we've put a kind of graphic touch to my
- 10:25presentation as you can see I've got the
- 10:27the very kind of bold contrast in black
- 10:30with the white text the inverted look so
- 10:33I got my got my inverted look in there
- 10:35somewhere with a touch of red and this
- 10:38is a consistent style throughout the
- 10:39presentation once again making sure that
- 10:42the drawings have a consistency and a
- 10:44relevancy to one another to make sure
- 10:46that they're reading is one as a
- 10:48presentation and I think that's really
- 10:50important for professionalism uh for
- 10:53people to really just be able to read
- 10:55the drawings really well and for that to
- 10:57be a narrative throughout I then have a
- 10:59contents page uh where we have the
- 11:02project brief precent study site
- 11:04analysis room requirements and then the
- 11:07drawings themselves and as you can see
- 11:08as I scroll through I have all of my
- 11:13views and
- 11:16models
- 11:18visible with the zoning taking you
- 11:21through the process of get to my final
- 11:24drawings and this is obviously very
- 11:27familiar if you are a architecture
- 11:30student we very often put together
- 11:32portfolios for presentations for
- 11:34critiques for portfolio submissions and
- 11:37then in practice we also put together
- 11:40design access statements we put together
- 11:42actual planning submission drawings so
- 11:45drawing set we put together all kinds of
- 11:47different reports at various stages of a
- 11:49project so putting together a
- 11:51documentation like this is really
- 11:53important at any stage of an
- 11:55architecture project so if I show a
- 11:57couple of examples of how to create this
- 11:58View Port into the model canvases once
- 12:01again select new do View and let's do
- 12:04the precedent mood board double click
- 12:06into the view you can scale in and out
- 12:08if you turn the toggle off so we can get
- 12:11that down to a scale that we're happy
- 12:13with position it fairly centrally you
- 12:15can then select the view edit the view
- 12:19edit the view clipping path and you can
- 12:22drag that in using the toggles in the
- 12:24corner or you could select the line
- 12:26itself hold down control and drag the
- 12:28view in and out like so and once again
- 12:31to show you how you can create a
- 12:32viewport into the same model canvas at
- 12:35different scales you can copy this view
- 12:38across for example and we're going to
- 12:41change this scale from 1 to 500 to 1 to
- 12:46250 we're going to click into the view
- 12:49turn off the toggle disabled and we're
- 12:52going to drag down to this site plan
- 12:56here which has slightly more detail in
- 12:58it I'm going to edit the view the
- 13:02edge drag it in and we now have the same
- 13:05view which we can
- 13:07position and align
- 13:10accordingly but with additional level of
- 13:14information and if you have any
- 13:15instances where you think the line
- 13:17weights are not quite right you can
- 13:19click into the view you can select the
- 13:21line weights you can change them to say
- 13:260.5 in this in this instance and you
- 13:29will see that they will change them in
- 13:31the view and therefore you can see here
- 13:33we've got 1 to 250 site drawing and a 1
- 13:36to 500 importing into the same model and
- 13:39one thing that you can see throughout is
- 13:40that I have my own kind of title page
- 13:43that I've created and dropped into the
- 13:46model now this is just an instance of me
- 13:48creating uh a title block myself and
- 13:51then turning it into a block which I've
- 13:52then duplicated throughout but once
- 13:55again you also have access to an entire
- 13:57library of title blocks which you can
- 14:00head over into the rayon libraries on
- 14:02the left hand side we can scroll down to
- 14:04library we've got title blocks and
- 14:06annotations and this is where you can
- 14:08begin to start dropping in either A3 or
- 14:11A1 title block A2 so for example in this
- 14:14instance I'm going to drop in an A2 so
- 14:17drag and drop or you can click three
- 14:19buttons and click import so in this
- 14:21instance where you want to create
- 14:23multiple sheets for different drawings
- 14:26with different drawing numbers uh but
- 14:28you want to use the same block you can
- 14:30copy the block across and for example
- 14:33say you have a set of four drawings but
- 14:37obviously if you click into the block
- 14:39and you change the number of the
- 14:42drawing it will also change the number
- 14:44of the drawing throughout all of the
- 14:46blocks which isn't ideal if you want to
- 14:49use the same block uh throughout your
- 14:51documentation so a really useful trick
- 14:54is to be able to edit the metadata of a
- 14:57block and so the way to to do this is to
- 15:00click into the block select the text and
- 15:03instead of having text you want to
- 15:06change the text to a tag so if you click
- 15:10add variable and you now come down to um
- 15:14your instance so you want to choose the
- 15:16block instance if we select instance and
- 15:19then we choose name we can then rename
- 15:23this block that title block 2 ao2 for
- 15:27example you will see that it will
- 15:30change the name and number on the sheet
- 15:33and as you can see throughout when we
- 15:35change the name of that block to A3 for
- 15:38example and then we could do
- 15:41A4 and the beauty of this now is that
- 15:43the block Still Remains a block and you
- 15:46can change the style and some of the
- 15:49graphics in the block for example if we
- 15:52change that logo to a blue logo you will
- 15:56see that it's replicated throughout the
- 15:57block but the text you can alter
- 16:00therefore you can have multiple drawings
- 16:03with the same block which have the same
- 16:05graphic style and consistency but you
- 16:07can change the name of the sheet without
- 16:10having to unblock it this makes it much
- 16:11more streamlined and efficient when
- 16:13trying to maintain consistency with your
- 16:15graphics throughout your drawings and an
- 16:17alternative is to create your own block
- 16:20so you can draw up any detail items
- 16:23within your sheet for example you can
- 16:24add a North Arrow I've added some
- 16:26information about what the drawing name
- 16:28name is uh the project name the
- 16:31documentation type the date and then a
- 16:34little branding here and there I've
- 16:36added a quite a bold number as a graphic
- 16:39piece to the drawing I've framed the
- 16:42drawing by adding some of these items to
- 16:44add a bit of a a bit of character and a
- 16:46bit of
- 16:48annotation and finally I've added a
- 16:51title in the corner and I can select all
- 16:54of these
- 16:56components right click and create a
- 16:59block and as you can see that block is
- 17:01now saved in my block Library where I
- 17:03can drag and drop it into my drawings to
- 17:06be able to populate it throughout now
- 17:09the final item to cover before I start
- 17:12exporting my drawings into a PDF or PNG
- 17:16format for example I'm now going to show
- 17:18you how to use pages so now that I have
- 17:20my title block set up I have my view
- 17:23ready at 1 to 100 I have all of my
- 17:26annotation and key ready I'm now going
- 17:29to create a page for me to be able to
- 17:31export this drawing to scale so I'm
- 17:33going to head over to the left hand side
- 17:35on once again I'm going to head down to
- 17:37the pages tab I'm going to click new and
- 17:40I'm going to select page now we're going
- 17:43to call this
- 17:44page ground floor plan and as you can
- 17:47see here this page has been inserted
- 17:49into the paper canvas you want to head
- 17:52over to the right hand side make sure
- 17:53that it's to scale one to one and then
- 17:56you have these format options of the
- 17:59size of the paper that you want to
- 18:00choose from so you've got all the
- 18:02different scales I'm going to choose a
- 18:04two I'm going to drag and drop the page
- 18:07into the position of my title block I'm
- 18:11just going to make sure it's accurate by
- 18:14clicking mm and aligning it properly and
- 18:17now we have a page set up called ground
- 18:20floor plan and if you do this throughout
- 18:22for example we could add a cover page
- 18:25which will change that to scale one to
- 18:27one again going to drop that down to A2
- 18:30I'm going to name that page drop that
- 18:32into place and depending on where your
- 18:35page is positioned on the layer tab if
- 18:38you drag it to the top for example you
- 18:41will notice that the cover page will
- 18:43turn to number one and if you drag it
- 18:46down to the bottom it will then be
- 18:48called number 11 so you want to make
- 18:50sure that your pages are ordered
- 18:51correctly on the left hand side in the
- 18:53layers Tab and then a quick way of
- 18:55copying this across your model is you
- 18:56can select the page type CC and just
- 19:00start copying them down then heading
- 19:02over to the left hand side renaming that
- 19:06to contents page so then we have page
- 19:09one cover page two contents page three
- 19:12project brief Etc as we go throughout
- 19:15all of the drawings and so now all my
- 19:17pages are set up from start to finish
- 19:20we're now going to head over to the left
- 19:21hand side and start exporting these
- 19:23pages so if you come over to the pages
- 19:25tab to the left you will see that you
- 19:28have all of the pages set up which if
- 19:32you
- 19:33click this export all button or you can
- 19:38export them individually by clicking the
- 19:39three dots and doing export or Zoom to
- 19:42page for example and it will take you to
- 19:45that page on the paper canvas uh if we
- 19:48do export all and the default export
- 19:51location of the file would be your
- 19:53downloads folder on your PC and at this
- 19:56point if you wanted to share your model
- 19:57with a colleague before you started
- 19:59exporting all of the drawings you could
- 20:01head over to the top right hand corner
- 20:04Click Share and you can share your model
- 20:07by doing a public link which you can
- 20:08share to them or you can invite someone
- 20:12a colleague into the project so they can
- 20:16edit admin or view the model and when
- 20:20you export your drawings you will see
- 20:22that they'll all export with all of
- 20:24their line details and quality all at
- 20:27the right scale
- 20:30A2 and a really powerful way to draw and
- 20:34document your projects and that there
- 20:36from start to finish is how to draw and
- 20:39document your architecture projects
