- 0:24in the description down below let's go
- 0:26ahead and take a look at the computer
- 0:28and you can follow along with me what
- 0:31you're looking at here are original
- 0:32photos of the room Holly and Bud reached
- 0:35out to me with the goal of redesigning
- 0:36their home in Connecticut they had been
- 0:38struggling to agree on ideas as
- 0:41sometimes it can be difficult to convey
- 0:43what you envision to another person
- 0:46Holly leans more towards a Hollywood
- 0:48glam and Hollywood Regency style while
- 0:50bud has more of an affection for Art
- 0:53Deco and and practicality both of these
- 0:56styles are luxury Ford the styles were
- 0:58based out of the Roaring 20s in America
- 1:00when everyone was making Handover fist
- 1:03money essentially the Styles represented
- 1:05a lavish celebratory time strong bold
- 1:08colors tropical plants statues paintings
- 1:11and and in-your-face
- 1:12chandeliers they thought it would be
- 1:14best if I were to come in as a third
- 1:16party listen to what they both wanted
- 1:18and bring it all together after
- 1:20listening to the both of them I couldn't
- 1:22help but think of The Great Gatsby movie
- 1:25luckily when I mentioned that they said
- 1:27it was one of their favorite movies and
- 1:29that was exactly along the lines of what
- 1:32they were looking for we'll be working
- 1:34on other parts of the home as well but
- 1:36we decided to start with the living room
- 1:38as it is the center of the home and we
- 1:39can work our way out from there some
- 1:42things to mention that are in order to
- 1:44preserve the historic nature of the Home
- 1:46Holly and Bud wanted to keep the
- 1:48original hardwood floors as well as the
- 1:50wooden trim that encases those doors and
- 1:54windows which you'll see on the
- 1:56perimeter they also have a nice big
- 1:58comfy sofa which was to be used in the
- 2:00design there are two dogs in this family
- 2:02one is roughly 75 lb the other is about
- 2:0585 lb these two do a lot of lounging in
- 2:08this room so it's important that they
- 2:10can find spaces to be comfortable as
- 2:12well they wanted to find a way to
- 2:14incorporate an electric fireplace and
- 2:16they love the idea of having a
- 2:17chandelier but they were worried because
- 2:20the ceilings in this room and in this
- 2:22whole home are are not very high so Bud
- 2:26might hit his head on the light fixture
- 2:28when walking through through the living
- 2:30room here so let's take a look at what
- 2:32we did it's a massive change you can
- 2:35hardly tell that it's the same room we
- 2:37added a mixture of curvature as well as
- 2:39hard angles into the design typically
- 2:41you would find an abundance of curvature
- 2:43in more feminine designs whereas in more
- 2:46masculine design you'd find an abundance
- 2:49of hard angles and and straight lines
- 2:52deep sea blue whites and gold accents
- 2:54are the color theme we went with these
- 2:56three colors they go so well together
- 2:58it's why you'll often see Sports teams
- 3:00use a combination of them on their
- 3:02jerseys or Flags we had the white tones
- 3:05balance the ceiling and floor spaces and
- 3:07as you can see there the white spaces
- 3:09are connected through the curtains in
- 3:12the center immediately you'll notice the
- 3:14large statement piece Chandelier and how
- 3:16we just mentioned potentially knocking
- 3:18your head on it but since we had
- 3:20included a coffee table we decided why
- 3:23not put a nice elegant chandelier if you
- 3:25get too close you'll bang your shin
- 3:27before you knock your head so it works
- 3:30gold was used as a layered accent color
- 3:33in this design you'll notice how it
- 3:34appears in the framing we included on
- 3:36the walls the wall paper and some of the
- 3:38furniture legs and a few of the decor
- 3:40pieces as well it never appears strictly
- 3:43alone because it's meant to accentuate
- 3:46the room it's not a color that's
- 3:48supposed to Canvas the room after Mount
- 3:52mounting the TV there was plenty of
- 3:54space for that electric fireplace that
- 3:56they wanted as you can see one of the
- 3:59seating chairs not only serves as a spot
- 4:01to watch TV but it's also perfectly
- 4:03situated next to a corner lamp that we
- 4:06had in the room so that space can also
- 4:09uh or that space that designated space
- 4:12can also become a reading area you'll
- 4:15notice that the plants are nearly the
- 4:17same height and size and they were added
- 4:19to opposite adjacent sides of the room
- 4:23uh This was done on purpose and it's
- 4:25because it creates a balance it also
- 4:26helps to contain the room from all sides
- 4:30the wallpaper was an art deco
- 4:32illustration somewhat replicative of um
- 4:35hand Fant a design pattern that's quite
- 4:38prominent in this type of style and and
- 4:40styles that come out of um that period
- 4:43of time the 20s the artwork was found
- 4:46among Independent Artists these two
- 4:48portraits they just felt right for the
- 4:50room I always like to pay attention to
- 4:52the initial emotion evoked by a painting
- 4:55or a photograph to decide whether it
- 4:58fits the theme that that I'm going for
- 5:01uh the Victorian woman has a more
- 5:03serious nature her posture is excellent
- 5:05and one can assume that her dress was
- 5:08expensive for those times she's
- 5:11presenting a a proper form of etiquette
- 5:13and class at the same time you have this
- 5:15feeling that she's leading you somewhere
- 5:18saying follow me I'll I'll show you how
- 5:20we live here the caricature portrait of
- 5:23the fox outfitted in Victorian clothing
- 5:26is just a fun piece I mean the fox is a
- 5:29cunning animal who is extremely playful
- 5:31but having him pose with this detached
- 5:34demeanor that so many people did in
- 5:37older photos you rarely see them smile
- 5:40in older photos um this room is
- 5:42luxurious but it's also a fun creation
- 5:45that's meant to make you smile both of
- 5:49the portraits carried overarching blue
- 5:51tones in them which made them even more
- 5:53perfect for the color theme that we were
- 5:55using in this living room you've now
- 5:57seen how you can turn an older living
- 5:59living room into an art deco Great
- 6:02Gatsby like style and theme if you like
- 6:05the video hit the thumbs up if you feel
- 6:07like sticking around a while feel free
- 6:09to subscribe see you on the next one
