  1. 0:26Hello and welcome back at another tutorial  about the Korg Pa5x. In this tutorial,
  2. 0:32we are going to take a look at how to use the  recording studio, which you can find over here,
  3. 0:36to create new styles based on existing styles.  It's a really easy process, but you need to know a
  4. 0:42few things. So, select one of the internal styles  and let's start with this process. So, what we are
  5. 0:49going to do is we go into the classic pop category  and we take the Hey Jude song from the Beatles.
  6. 0:57Now, one of the complaints I read online is that  there are way too much song specific styles in
  7. 1:02this Korg Pa5X. And well, that is true, but on  the Pa5X, you can easily transform it to generic
  8. 1:09styles. So, let's use this classic song of the  Hey Jude song from the Beatles, and let's create a
  9. 1:16generic style out of it with the recording studio  in the Korg Pa5X. So, when we look at the style,
  10. 1:22then we need to remove the song specific elements.  So, let's hear every element. And you can do it
  11. 1:27on variation four where everything is  playing. Well, I don't need this one.
  12. 1:36The Ballad style, we can keep that one.
  13. 1:45Yeah, the guitar we don't need. So, mute  that one. And this one we also don't need.
  14. 1:58And the piano we also don't need. So we  are going to only use the Ballad and the
  15. 2:03percussion things for this. And we are going  to add Pad elements so that we can use those
  16. 2:10to make a generic style out of it. So for pad  one we choose uh something like percussion. So
  17. 2:17use the shaker and conga 2. It's the  fourth one on page one. And for pad two, we are
  18. 2:26going to use a synth specific element. So let's  use Pad 4 on page three. When we play this now
  19. 2:38with the elements again,
  20. 2:42well, it doesn't sound like hey Jude at all. So it  would be nice if we create a style out of this. So
  21. 2:51this is so we have set up the the thing that we  are going to record in the recording studio and
  22. 2:57we are going to use this specific elements now for  our new style. So how do you do that? Well press
  23. 3:04the edit button and activate recording studio.  So we are in the recording studio now. Well,
  24. 3:12the recording studio is actually the second player  now. So, the second player acts as a recording
  25. 3:18studio and the style is played with the first uh  player. So, player one is the style. Player two
  26. 3:25is the recording studio. So, what are we going  to do? Well, we are going to record the style,
  27. 3:30the chords, and the pads. And we don't need  the keyboard set. If you want to have specific
  28. 3:37melody lines, you can record the keyboard  set and activate that too. But for this demo,
  29. 3:42we don't do that. So that's basically all. So the  most important things you need to know to create a
  30. 3:49style out of this is that it has to be at least 20  measures long. So this element here over over here
  31. 3:58has to be at least 20 measures. and it works the  best if you record a complete style in C. So this
  32. 4:06is the way to set it up. It has to be at least  20 long. And we are going to play this in the C
  33. 4:12chord. So press the C chord so that you see a C.  And that's the only thing you have to do. Now set
  34. 4:18it to variation one. Press the intro three. And  now basically we are ready. So what we are going
  35. 4:26to do is we press the play button. On variation  one, we activate pad one and two. And whenever we
  36. 4:34see that we are going to measure four, then press  the next one with the autofill enabled. So that is
  37. 4:43constantly a fill on the third measure. The last  one, we keep it going for eight measures so that
  38. 4:49we hit that 20 spot and we end with end three. So  that's basically all we are going to do. It's that
  39. 4:59easy. So, let's do it. Press the play button  and you will see this process now in action.
  40. 5:14So, watch that counter and as soon  as you see that it goes to four,
  41. 5:19press the next variation. Now, it enters that  fill. Let's go along for the four measures.
  42. 5:35Measure four.
  43. 5:51So now it's on measure four but you see  that it's not still didn't reach 20. So
  44. 5:58we are going to keep continuing now doing this.
  45. 6:11So let's enter a fill and go to
  46. 6:22So it's now at yeah it's 25 that is long enough  and press the stop button so that we don't need
  47. 6:31to record any longer. So it's 26 now but it can be  22 also that works also. So we've created now that
  48. 6:39specific element you can see it over here.  One nice thing to know is that you can hold
  49. 6:44the settings button and you can zoom and when  you hold the menu button and you then you can
  50. 6:49quickly go through that element, but that  will be in a later tutorial. Now the only
  51. 6:55thing we need to do is to create a midi file  out of it. So press the hamburger menu and
  52. 7:02select export arrangement as midi song. Save it  somewhere with a name that you can recognize. QR
  53. 7:15new
  54. 7:19style. That's fine. Okay. Save it to  something. Now let's save it to the
  55. 7:27Korg disk in this case. And now we don't  need the style or the recording studio
  56. 7:33anymore. Now we've created a let's go to  the song style. And when we are going to
  57. 7:40select this one QR new style song you can play  that specific song which we just have recorded
  58. 7:52but we want to make a style out of it. So how  do you do that? Most people will say hey let's
  59. 7:59create a new style and press the menu button go to  import and select the import standard midi file.
  60. 8:06And that doesn't work. If we try that you will  see that it cannot be imported because does it
  61. 8:12not contain the required style element markers.  Now why is this? Well on position one the Korg
  62. 8:20Pa5X in the recording studio entered all kind  of information. Actually the midi file starts on
  63. 8:26uh position two and it can't import things that  are starting on position two. So I think it's
  64. 8:34something they have to fix, but it doesn't work.  But we don't need it this way. So the way to do
  65. 8:39it is to go to the rec edit button, press the  style creator bot. Now we are going to select
  66. 8:48that specific style that we just created. Select  it. Press the exit button. And now we have that
  67. 8:55new style. Save it in something where you can  find it. And well let's name it QR new style.
  68. 9:05So it's actually is a style and we want to load  it in player one. And what it did now is we've
  69. 9:14created a new style from what we all did. And  this one is actually very usable. So let's try it.
  70. 9:27So we are on variation one now and we play  now an A minor. Just what we tried to do.
  71. 9:43Let's go to variation two. Well, sounds quite  similar. So let's go to variation three.
  72. 9:52It adds the strings.
  73. 9:58Let's go to variation four.
  74. 10:06It's a different voicing of the strings for  so very nice. So, we have that now. So, let's
  75. 10:15make a few quick changes. I hear the congas and  I want a delay on the congas. So, let's try that.
  76. 10:26Yeah. On the congas. So, let's add  that. it's in the percussion track. So,
  77. 10:34let's do something like a delay.  Yeah, maybe an auto pan delay. Yeah,
  78. 10:44that gives much a little bit less. You know,  sound design is all about Subtle changes.
  79. 10:55So, that is nice.
  80. 11:02yeah, that's much better. So,
  81. 11:05but we also have this sound. Let's  also add some delay on top of that.
  82. 11:15Also, don't make it too complex.
  83. 11:22And you hear it's not in sync. And that's  because we didn't select the BPM delay. So
  84. 11:26use the BPM delay for that. And now it's  in sync. And you hear it's doing all kind
  85. 11:34of things. And it would be nice if this  element is a little bit more interesting.
  86. 11:39So let's create an auto filter on that  and add in the filter section. Add a
  87. 11:45random filter. Yes. That's very nice. And we  want a little bit more of the dry signal. So
  88. 11:53that is on top of that. So now you hear the  original with a little bit of effect on top
  89. 12:00of that on all the delay taps. So very  nice. Now let's try it with everything.
  90. 12:13So now the good thing is that it also  adds all kind of new pads to it that is
  91. 12:19for this specific element. So let's try  to create a song with this just for fun.
  92. 12:57And let's now we have all kind of pads on  top of that. And this was the Hey Jude style,
  93. 13:05a very song specific style and we  created just in a few well if you
  94. 13:10are doing it more often then it's a few  minutes to create these kind of things.
  95. 14:08etc. And of course, you can do the  things like only the drums and bass.
  96. 14:23So this way you can play  your piano on top of this.
  97. 15:01It works fine. Let go. And let's go to the
  98. 15:10So, you can have a lot of fun with this. And of  course, you can modify the pads to something you
  99. 15:15like more. You don't like that string? Let's do  something different. Maybe this is something.
  100. 15:42So, as you see, very easy to create your  new styles. It was the Hey Jude style.
  101. 15:48Within a few minutes we created a new  style out of it. Works really well. So,
  102. 15:54have fun with it. It works for every style  in your PA5X. And if you add your melody
  103. 15:58specific elements to it, then it will also  use those. So, that's it for now and hope it
  104. 16:04helps. And have fun creating your own  new styles with the recording studio.
