COW’S HOOF BLOWS TONS OF BUBBLES — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:02hello everyone and welcome back to nate
- 0:04the hoof guy on today's video we've got
- 0:06a cow who doesn't want to put any weight
- 0:09on her right front foot
- 0:11so let's get this foot picked up see if
- 0:13we can figure out where the problem is
- 0:24now the first thing i notice when i pick
- 0:25this foot up is this swollen inside claw
- 0:29that is going to be where the source of
- 0:30the problem is now the first thing you
- 0:32probably noticed when i picked that foot
- 0:34up was all of that straw and debris
- 0:36packed into the bottom of it that is
- 0:38actually from the pen behind me we put
- 0:41this straw and sawed us down some other
- 0:43places just to dry the feet out make
- 0:46sure it's a nice dry environment so the
- 0:47cows don't slip coming into the chute
- 0:49and that's why it's on the feet but
- 0:51we're gonna get that cleaned off now so
- 0:53you get a better look exactly where this
- 0:54problem lies
- 1:06now that we've got that straw removed we
- 1:08can see where that problem lies so let's
- 1:10get into this trim
- 1:39so i've been asked to explain where the
- 1:41white line in the claw is a little bit
- 1:42clearer so i'm going to do that now with
- 1:44the sharpie it's this gray line actually
- 1:47that extends all the way along the toe
- 1:48and then up that inside wall as well
- 1:51now this defect right here notice where
- 1:53it is right now i'm going to put a mark
- 1:54on the sole showing where the top of
- 1:57that defective mark is in the sole right
- 1:59now that is actually not where the
- 2:01lesion is the lesion is going to be much
- 2:02higher than that
- 2:04but this is going to help us
- 2:06explain how these form they form from
- 2:08the inside and it's going to be obvious
- 2:10once we get to work on this
- 2:12now when a cow doesn't want to put
- 2:13weight on a foot it's usually because
- 2:15there's pressure built up inside that
- 2:17claw and that's what you're going to see
- 2:19right now
- 2:28i think we can all imagine the relief
- 2:30this must bring
- 2:40now we need to find the source but pay
- 2:42attention to that mark that i drew on
- 2:44the sole of that claw
- 2:46that is was marking the top edge of that
- 2:49imperfection in the soul but that's not
- 2:52where the lesion is going to be it's
- 2:53actually going to be higher we're going
- 2:54to uncover that now
- 3:18notice the relationship of those two
- 3:20marks now and we're not done yet
- 3:56now look where that mark is and that's
- 3:58where we're first encountering corium
- 4:00disturbance
- 4:01now what's the significance of this
- 4:02whole thing that i'm trying to point out
- 4:04here it's that these
- 4:06defects actually start from the inside
- 4:09of the foot not from the outside in what
- 4:11happens is as that foot is growing
- 4:13something happens where that white line
- 4:15doesn't form correctly it doesn't attach
- 4:17that sole and that outside wall
- 4:19correctly so we end up with a void there
- 4:22slight imperfection
- 4:24a perforation in that white line and
- 4:26ultimately when that foot grows out all
- 4:29the way
- 4:30and that crack becomes
- 4:32exposed to the outer elements that's
- 4:34what allows the bacteria to get into
- 4:36that claw and ultimately infect that
- 4:38corium and this is kind of evidence of
- 4:40that you can see how that mark when we
- 4:42first started was way down the foot
- 4:44there was no other imperfections in that
- 4:46sole whatsoever except way down there
- 4:49and then ultimately we've got an area
- 4:51here that opens up way up higher than
- 4:53that
- 4:54just showing that that is starting from
- 4:56a grow point inside the foot as that
- 4:58foot grows out that mark is going to
- 5:00work its way down toward the toe and
- 5:02that's what we're seeing here
- 5:22now this is your first experience with a
- 5:24hoof trimming video what i'm going to do
- 5:25now is i'm going to clean up this other
- 5:27claw i'm going to glue a rubber block to
- 5:29that claw and what that's going to do
- 5:31it's going to elevate that injured claw
- 5:33off the ground it's going to allow her
- 5:34to put all of that weight on that good
- 5:36claw giving that injured claw time to
- 5:38rest and they recuperate
- 5:42the white powder that i'm applying now
- 5:44is called salicylic acid that's just
- 5:46going to help prevent any bacteria from
- 5:48colonizing in that area make sure we get
- 5:50a nice speedy recovery with this foot
- 5:52i'm going to put a wrap on that to hold
- 5:53that in place
- 5:55and this girl is ready to go
- 5:57if you want to follow along and see how
- 5:58she recovered hit that subscribe button
- 6:01and you'll get updates when i post new
- 6:02videos of her updates
- 6:04and others as always guys thanks for
- 6:07watching and we will see you all
- 6:10on the next one
- 6:21you
