2. 0:02right now and you also wouldn't believe
3. 0:04how sore this couch foot is this is the
4. 0:07hoof gp and that is one incredibly sore
5. 0:10fruit and you're just about to see why
6. 0:15so it may not look obvious right now but
7. 0:17there is a huge bubble up here and this
8. 0:21will probably connect down to here
9. 0:24in some capacity so if there's any loose
10. 0:26horn or anything over here that might be
11. 0:28covering up this abscess and the fistula
12. 0:31beneath
13. 0:32we're just about to find out
14. 0:34this farm has over a thousand milking
15. 0:37cows and out of all of those thousand
16. 0:39cows and they're four thousand feet
17. 0:41there are only two cows currently laying
18. 0:44within the herd this being one of them
19. 0:47but she is exceptionally lame so i'm
20. 0:49very keen to get to the root of this
21. 0:51problem and do what i can to alleviate
22. 0:54her pain jurisdiction or not though the
23. 0:57cow is just about to take matters into
24. 0:59her own hands as you're just about to
25. 1:02find out in a very messy way this is the
26. 1:06problem that we're trying to alleviate
27. 1:07the pain from and this
28. 1:09infection here probably goes all the way
29. 1:12down into the claw as well so if we put
30. 1:14a block on here there's no infection on
31. 1:16this side this will be transferring
32. 1:18slightly onto this side but the block
33. 1:20will still give us some relief
34. 1:22boom i'm hoping that once we remove some
35. 1:24of this huff horn it opens up and this
36. 1:26is allowed to drain because i can't cut
37. 1:29into any live tissue and there's no vet
38. 1:31on hand otherwise they would
39. 1:33just cut straight into that probably
40. 1:42uh
41. 1:56i can tell this is all under run you see
42. 1:59the cows on this farm live outside for
43. 2:02approximately 90 percent of the year
44. 2:04they are jersey cross frisian cows and
45. 2:07they're known within the industry for
46. 2:08kicking out without warning at any point

53. 2:26hand it was because she kicked back and
54. 2:29burst that bubble of pus on my foot rest

57. 2:37a huge relief for her in the process of
58. 2:39kicking back though as i was using my
59. 2:41knife i wasn't able to react quick
60. 2:43enough and she pushed the knife blade
61. 2:45more deeply into her soul than i would
62. 2:47have wished
63. 2:50i'll just
64. 2:52clean all that
65. 2:53gunk off

67. 2:59all i'm gonna do is recommend that a vet
68. 3:01sees this to clean it out properly or
69. 3:03the farmer could probably do it himself
70. 3:05but that ain't my job so i'm not
71. 3:08going to do something that is not my job
72. 3:11no because i don't want to because i do
73. 3:12want to right let's finish this trim she
74. 3:15goes for a second kick but luckily this
75. 3:17time i'm quicker to react we still have
76. 3:20a little way to go before we can finish

83. 3:39after further disinfecting her foot with
84. 3:41iodine we take the grinder and further
85. 3:43reduce that disconnected hoof horn on
86. 3:46the toe area of our foot then crack out
87. 3:49the knife and make our final alterations
88. 3:52before applying the product that we're
89. 3:54going to treat this cow's food with
90. 4:08so she's had a tool sir here and it's
91. 4:10probably got infected at some point
92. 4:12tracked up the frontal or dorsal wall of
93. 4:15this hoof and into the ankle and that's
94. 4:17why it's become infected it's also got a
95. 4:19little bit of infection on the outside
96. 4:20here which is why it was all bruised and
97. 4:22red and yucky down here so right now
98. 4:24we're going to wrap it with salicylic
99. 4:25acid just to kill any of that infection
100. 4:28on the outer layers of the epidermis or
101. 4:31skin tissue
102. 4:33this cow will need to see a vet at some
103. 4:35point because of that abscess well like
104. 4:37i said before to be honest i am glad
105. 4:39that it ruptured during this trim
106. 4:41because it will have given her a
107. 4:43tremendous amount of pain relief
108. 4:45almost instantly so now this has been
109. 4:48wrapped let's get her out of the crush
110. 4:49and see how she's walking
111. 4:55at first she's really unsure and not
112. 4:58sure what's stuck to the end of her foot
113. 5:00if you give her a second she'll start to
114. 5:02walk better on it
115. 5:05when she realizes that it doesn't hurt
116. 5:07so much
117. 5:17clearly not perfect
118. 5:20and this farm is really diligent so the
119. 5:22vet will be out in no time at all to
120. 5:24help her with that abscess guys this has
121. 5:26been the hoof gp thank you very much for
