  2. 0:03at the BBC. We now understand that
  3. 0:05British counterterrorism police officers
  4. 0:07are leading the investigation into the
  5. 0:09suspected murder of the former British
  6. 0:12government minister Anne Whitaker. To
  7. 0:14remind you, Anne Whitikim was found dead
  8. 0:16at her home in rural uh Southwest
  9. 0:19England down in Devon on Thursday with
  10. 0:22what police described as serious
  11. 0:24injuries. Uh but we have now heard that
  12. 0:27British counterterrorism police officers
  13. 0:29are leading this investigation. Uh we
  14. 0:32did earlier note that a suspect in the
  15. 0:35murder investigation was seen on CCTV
  16. 0:37footage appearing to get into a car in
  17. 0:40Yorkshire hours before Anne Woodham is
  18. 0:42thought to have been attacked at her
  19. 0:43home in Devon. Uh we had CCTV footage
  20. 0:47that showed a man dressed in a white
  21. 0:50shirt and shorts getting into a red
  22. 0:52vehicle outside a home in Rotherham and
  23. 0:54he had a long object that appeared to
  24. 0:56protrude from his shorts uh pocket. So
  25. 0:59that was the latest from police until
  26. 1:01this news that we have now with uh
  27. 1:04British counterterrorism officers now
  28. 1:06saying that they are leading the
  29. 1:08investigation
  30. 1:10into her death. And uh we have this
  31. 1:14comment just coming to us now from the
  32. 1:18home secretary Shabban Mammud who has
  33. 1:20said that she has spoken to the head of
  34. 1:22counterterrorism policing about the Anne
  35. 1:24Whitikim investigation which they are
  36. 1:26now leading and she has just put this
  37. 1:28statement on X. This morning I have
  38. 1:31spoken to the head of terrorism
  39. 1:33counterterrorism policing following new
  40. 1:35evidence and uh information. They are
  41. 1:38now leading on the investigation into
  42. 1:40the horrific murder of Anne Whitikim.
  43. 1:43The police are pursuing multiple lines
  44. 1:45of inquiry to establish the motivation
  45. 1:47for this attack. I will be updating the
  46. 1:49house further this afternoon. My
  47. 1:51thoughts today remain with Anne's family
  48. 1:53and friends and all those who loved her.
  49. 1:56So that statement on X, the police are
  50. 1:59pursuing multiple lines of inquiry to
  51. 2:01establish the motivation for this
  52. 2:04attack. And uh crucially she says she
  53. 2:06will be updating the house further this
  54. 2:07afternoon. So we will certainly bring
  55. 2:08that to you live when it happens. But
  56. 2:10Shabban Mammud the home secretary saying
  57. 2:12she has spoken to the head of
  58. 2:14counterterrorism policing following new
  59. 2:16information and evidence. They are now
  60. 2:19leading on the investigation into the
  61. 2:21horrific murder of Anne Whitaker.
