  1. 0:00Does the Bible really claim to have
  2. 0:01divine authority? The Bible doesn't just
  3. 0:04speak about God. It speaks as from God.
  4. 0:08Its very language and structure claim to
  5. 0:10reflect the authority of the divine.
  6. 0:13Jesus himself affirmed this throughout
  7. 0:15his ministry. He declared that scripture
  8. 0:17is indestructible. In Matthew 5:18,
  9. 0:21Jesus says, "I tell you the truth, until
  10. 0:24heaven and earth disappear, not the
  11. 0:26smallest letter, not the least stroke of
  12. 0:28a pen will by any means
  13. 0:31disappear." This means not even a tiny
  14. 0:33accent mark or a flick of a pen from the
  15. 0:36original Hebrew will ever become void.
  16. 0:39The written word stands firm. In John
  17. 0:4110:35, Jesus calls scripture
  18. 0:44unbreakable. It cannot be enulled or
  19. 0:47overturned. It's not just reliable. It
  20. 0:50is completely and absolutely
  21. 0:52trustworthy. When Satan tempted him in
  22. 0:55the wilderness, Jesus didn't rely on
  23. 0:57personal strength or argument. He quoted
  24. 1:00scripture. Three times he responded, "It
  25. 1:03is written in Matthew 4:es 47 and 10."
  26. 1:07That shows the Bible's final and
  27. 1:09decisive authority even over spiritual
  28. 1:11warfare and temptation. Jesus also
  29. 1:14emphasized the sufficiency of the
  30. 1:17scriptures in Luke
  31. 1:1916:31. He says, "If they do not listen
  32. 1:23to Moses and the prophets, they will not
  33. 1:25be convinced even if someone rises from
  34. 1:28the dead." That's a bold statement. Even
  35. 1:31a resurrection wouldn't persuade someone
  36. 1:33if they disregard the word of God. Jesus
  37. 1:36was making it clear. Scripture is
  38. 1:38enough. It's all we need to believe,
  39. 1:40understand, and obey. The Apostle Paul
  40. 1:43expands on this truth in 2 Timothy 3
  41. 1:4616-17. He writes, "All scripture is God
  42. 1:50breathed and is useful for teaching,
  43. 1:52rebuking, correcting, and training in
  44. 1:55righteousness so that the man of God may
  45. 1:57be thoroughly equipped for every good
  46. 2:00work." God breathed means the very
  47. 2:03breath of God. His spirit moved through
  48. 2:06human authors so that what was written
  49. 2:09wasn't just inspiring but
  50. 2:12inspired. Scripture equips us
  51. 2:14completely. Nothing is missing. Nothing
  52. 2:18needs to be added. But how far does this
  53. 2:20divine authority
  54. 2:22extend? Paul says all scripture, not
  55. 2:26just the general ideas or the moral
  56. 2:28teachings, every word, every phrase,
  57. 2:31every passage.
  58. 2:34Jesus affirmed this when he referred to
  59. 2:36the words of David in Matthew
  60. 2:3922:43. Jesus asked, "How is it then that
  61. 2:43David speaking by the Spirit calls him
  62. 2:45Lord?" He pointed out that David's words
  63. 2:48were guided by the Holy
  64. 2:50Spirit. Paul echoed this again in 1
  65. 2:53Corinthians
  66. 2:542:13, explaining that we speak not in
  67. 2:57words taught by human wisdom, but in
  68. 3:00words taught by the spirit. Even the
  69. 3:02smallest parts of the words are
  70. 3:04authoritative. In Matthew 5 17:18, Jesus
  71. 3:08says he didn't come to abolish the law
  72. 3:10or the prophets, but to fulfill them.
  73. 3:13And again, he emphasized that not even
  74. 3:15the tiniest letter or penstroke would
  75. 3:17disappear until all is fulfilled.
  76. 3:20Jesus's teaching shows that even the
  77. 3:22tense of a verb matters. In Matthew
  78. 3:2422:32, he says, "I am the God of
  79. 3:27Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God
  80. 3:30of Jacob." Not was, but am. That subtle
  81. 3:34present tense proves resurrection and
  82. 3:36ongoing life. That's how seriously Jesus
  83. 3:39took the exact words of scripture. Some
  84. 3:41may ask, "Wasn't the Bible written by
  85. 3:44humans?" Yes, but not in a purely human
  86. 3:48way. 2 and Peter 1:es 20-21 clarifies
  87. 3:52that no prophecy of scripture came about
  88. 3:55by the prophet's own interpretation and
  89. 3:58that men spoke from God as they were
  90. 4:00carried along by the Holy Spirit. God
  91. 4:03used each writer's vocabulary and
  92. 4:04personality but every word was overseen
  93. 4:07by his spirit. The result, a perfect
  94. 4:10message, not a robotic dictation, but a
  95. 4:13divine orchestration. The Bible claims
  96. 4:15divine origin, authority, precision, and
  97. 4:20sufficiency. Not one part of it is
  98. 4:22accidental or outdated. Its authority is
  99. 4:25not just a religious opinion. It is a
  100. 4:27claim made by Jesus, affirmed by
  101. 4:29apostles, and preserved word for word.
  102. 4:33The question isn't whether the Bible
  103. 4:35claims divine authority. The question
  104. 4:37is, do we believe
