- 0:00€ 9.99 per month for Tesla Premium
- 0:03Connectivity. Is it worth it? Do you
- 0:06use all the features? Well, before
- 0:10paying, let's see if it's worthwhile
- 0:11and, more importantly, what functions
- 0:13remain accessible without this
- 0:15subscription. Hi everyone, welcome to
- 0:17the Alexandre Tesla channel. Today,
- 0:20we're going to talk about Tesla Premium
- 0:22Connectivity. Do you really have to pay
- 0:23for it? Since it's billed at € 9.99
- 0:26per month. So we're going to see if
- 0:28it's actually worth it. Starting with
- 0:31the price, € 9.99 a month, let's
- 0:33round it to € 10, that's € 119.88
- 0:36for 12 monthly payments. So, € 120 a
- 0:39year, that's the cost of this Tesla
- 0:41Premium Connectivity. Some will say
- 0:43it's not expensive, that you don't even
- 0:45notice it, others will say it's still a
- 0:47significant budget. I'm somewhere in
- 0:49between. On one hand, I think it's not
- 0:51much, but on the other, € 120 a year
- 0:52pays for a mobile phone plan, for
- 0:54example. So, we need to see if it's
- 0:56relevant or not. But before we move on,
- 0:59I just wanted to quickly thank you for
- 1:00the growing number of people on this
- 1:02YouTube channel. I also want to thank
- 1:05everyone who used my referral link to
- 1:07order their Tesla. A really big thank
- 1:10you to you; it supports the channel and
- 1:12encourages me to make more and more
- 1:13videos. So I hope we reach 2,000
- 1:15subscribers quickly; that would be
- 1:17great. In any case, that's what we can
- 1:19hope for in the coming month, the month
- 1:21of November. It would be really great.
- 1:24So, let's get back to Tesla Premium
- 1:26Connectivity. First, what's included as
- 1:29standard: without Premium Connectivity,
- 1:32you have navigation and routing that
- 1:35takes traffic into account, the trip
- 1:37planner, and Supercharger availability.
- 1:42Those are the basic GPS and driving
- 1:44features, so to speak. Grok, on the
- 1:47other hand. First thing, the Grok
- 1:50assistant is currently in beta, only
- 1:53for those who have the Ryzen processor,
- 1:56meaning the latest Teslas at a minimum.
- 2:01I actually made a video about Grok that
- 2:03came out a few days ago. I invite you
- 2:05to go watch it because we're doing a
- 2:06similar exercise there. We're looking
- 2:07at whether it's worth getting a paid
- 2:09Grok subscription, a "Super Grok," in
- 2:11your Tesla. In any case, whether you
- 2:15are on a Tesla Premium Connectivity
- 2:17plan or on Wi-Fi, meaning if you share
- 2:20your phone's connection, you can have
- 2:23access to Grok. You should know, and
- 2:27you'll see in this video, that premium
- 2:29connectivity allows you to have
- 2:31internet all the time in your vehicle
- 2:33with extra features. Even if some might
- 2:36say to me, "Yes, but without premium
- 2:37features, the Tesla is still connected
- 2:39to the internet." That is the case. OK.
- 2:42That is the case, it's just that you
- 2:44will be—the browser is blocked,
- 2:47Netflix for example, YouTube, etc., are
- 2:50blocked. Basically, it's just a Wi-Fi
- 2:53connection that is only used to launch
- 2:54the GPS or play the radio, for example.
- 2:57But overall, to get the most features,
- 3:00you need to get premium connectivity,
- 3:02though you will still have quite a few
- 3:04features by sharing your phone's Wi-Fi
- 3:06connection. Anyway, we will go over all
- 3:09that as we go, don't worry. So first,
- 3:13with premium connectivity, you have
- 3:15satellite maps; you have the satellite
- 3:17view on the navigation map. So that is
- 3:20the colorful interface where you really
- 3:23get the satellite view. Some people
- 3:25like it, some people like it less,
- 3:26actually. Well, it's a matter of taste.
- 3:29Personally, I like it because I find
- 3:31that you can see the terrain a bit, you
- 3:33see the environment a little, it's cool
- 3:35. Though, it's a bit less minimalist,
- 3:37let's say, than the basic maps. With
- 3:40premium, you also have 3D display for
- 3:42these maps. It's fairly recent, and it
- 3:44depends on the vehicle. You need to
- 3:46have a vehicle with a Ryzen chip, so at
- 3:48least from 2022. It allows you to see
- 3:51the buildings, well, the buildings that
- 3:54we see in 3D, all that, it's really
- 3:56nice. However, it's not available when
- 3:59the satellite view is enabled. It's
- 4:01really only when you turn it off. With
- 4:04premium connectivity, you have access
- 4:06to weather and precipitation. So
- 4:10on-site, meaning where you are located,
- 4:12you can click and see directly what the
- 4:14weather is like, including
- 4:16precipitation, as well as at your GPS
- 4:18destination. If for example you planned
- 4:22your GPS for Paris, it will show you
- 4:24directly what the weather is like over
- 4:27there. It's convenient. With Premium,
- 4:31you get traffic display; you can
- 4:33visualize traffic on the map. Depending
- 4:37on the color—if there is no color, it
- 4:38means traffic is flowing. If it is
- 4:40orange, it means there is a bit of
- 4:41congestion. If it is red, vehicles are
- 4:43at a standstill. You are in a traffic
- 4:45jam. Traffic-based route calculation
- 4:48remains included as standard. This
- 4:51means the route will be planned
- 4:53automatically while taking traffic into
- 4:56account. With standard connectivity—
- 5:00so without the premium connectivity
- 5:01option—you just won't have the color
- 5:03codes. As for choosing between multiple
- 5:08routes, with Premium, you have the
- 5:09ability to compare several paths, or
- 5:12pre-defined routes. Once again, it will
- 5:15depend on the vehicle and the
- 5:16availability of the feature. So,
- 5:18normally, you cannot do this without
- 5:20the premium connectivity. You also have
- 5:22access to speed cameras outside of
- 5:24France. So, outside of France, you get
- 5:26all the speed camera alerts and
- 5:29information, which functions
- 5:31differently than the French risk zones.
- 5:33In France, we have risk zones, meaning
- 5:36you won't get the exact location of the
- 5:39radar. You will just get a risk zone a
- 5:41bit before and a bit after. And you
- 5:43will need to remain vigilant when
- 5:45entering this risk zone, with a
- 5:46different beep, of course. So, as I was
- 5:48saying, in France, it signals risk
- 5:50zones that may contain a hazard. A
- 5:52signaled zone does not necessarily mean
- 5:54there is a radar. It happens sometimes
- 5:56that a zone is reported, but it is not
- 5:59actually a radar. So, there you go, it
- 6:01depends. A major advantage of premium
- 6:04connectivity is the live camera feature
- 6:06as well. This means you can preview and
- 6:10have a remote view of the cameras from
- 6:13your phone. That is a great feature.
- 6:17It’s a shame it isn't included by
- 6:18default, but it's practical for seeing
- 6:19what is happening around your vehicle.
- 6:21Premium, therefore, allows you to have
- 6:23a real-time live feed. Right? You go to
- 6:26the Tesla app and, if Sentry Mode is
- 6:28enabled, you can see the cameras live.
- 6:31If Sentry Mode is not enabled, that's
- 6:32okay, you can enable it from your Tesla
- 6:34app. You wait 5 seconds and then you
- 6:36can see the cameras. However, for
- 6:38Sentry Mode, even without the Premium
- 6:41Connectivity option, Sentry Mode still
- 6:43works. It's just that to see the videos
- 6:45, you will have to get into the vehicle
- 6:48and actually check what has been
- 6:50recorded in the meantime. But there are
- 6:53alternatives, there are apps that exist
- 6:56; one app I've been using for a while
- 6:58is called Sentry Guard, which allows
- 7:01you to receive a notification when an
- 7:03event has been detected by Sentry Mode.
- 7:07So that's great for those who don't
- 7:09have Premium Connectivity. I have two
- 7:11Tesla vehicles, one has Premium
- 7:12Connectivity and the other does not.
- 7:14Regarding the dashcam on mobile. So you
- 7:18can view recordings from the app,
- 7:20meaning that with Premium Connectivity,
- 7:23you can actually see all the videos
- 7:26recorded by Sentry Mode on your phone.
- 7:30This means your Tesla will stream the
- 7:32videos to your phone. So that's nice.
- 7:35It's not the same thing as retrieving
- 7:37the local recording. If you don't have
- 7:39Premium Connectivity, to get the videos
- 7:41, you'll have to go to the vehicle,
- 7:43watch them on the screen, or otherwise
- 7:45take the USB drive from the glove box
- 7:47and plug it into your computer. So,
- 7:49it's true there's much less friction
- 7:50and a lot more flexibility with Premium
- 7:52Connectivity. You can easily access all
- 7:55the recordings made with Sentry Mode.
- 7:57So that's quite convenient. Pet Mode,
- 8:00meaning you can now configure it; it
- 8:02used to be called Dog Mode, now it's
- 8:04Pet Mode. Well, because it could be a
- 8:06cat or a hedgehog. Well, there is a dog
- 8:08too, you can choose. You have the live
- 8:11camera, meaning that in your Tesla, you
- 8:13have a small camera at the top, and you
- 8:16can view the cabin camera remotely.
- 8:19That's very practical for seeing what's
- 8:21happening in your vehicle if, for
- 8:22example, you left your dog inside.
- 8:24Maintaining the temperature, however,
- 8:26is possible remotely. Anything related
- 8:28to climate control can be adjusted
- 8:30remotely without Premium Connectivity.
- 8:31Music streaming. With Premium
- 8:34Connectivity, you can access music,
- 8:36podcasts, and audiobooks directly. Via
- 8:39the various included apps like Spotify,
- 8:43Apple Music, and also notably Amazon
- 8:46Music. So, today most music streaming
- 8:50applications are available. Uh, same
- 8:53thing for audiobooks. Uh, there is the
- 8:55book application, so Kindle Audio.
- 8:58There are quite a few applications
- 9:00today directly included in the Tesla.
- 9:02All of this is compatible since premium
- 9:04connectivity provides cellular data, so
- 9:07it works. However, well, you will see
- 9:09it's possible over Wi-Fi. As for video,
- 9:11it's the same thing when parked. You
- 9:15can, therefore, on the front screen or
- 9:17the rear screen if the vehicle has one,
- 9:20access streaming video, namely YouTube,
- 9:23Twitch as well, and Netflix. There you
- 9:28go, you can watch these applications
- 9:29with premium connectivity without using
- 9:31your phone. It connects to the cellular
- 9:33network. You also have karaoke, which
- 9:36works with premium connectivity
- 9:38depending on the equipment and region.
- 9:40So it's a karaoke application, and the
- 9:43internet browser is also possible.
- 9:45Browsing websites from the screen is
- 9:47possible with premium connectivity. So
- 9:51everything we've seen, in fact, most
- 9:53features are available. Well,
- 9:55everything we've seen is available with
- 9:58the Tesla premium connectivity, charged
- 10:01at € 9.99 per month. But it is
- 10:05possible to have quite a few features
- 10:07over Wi-Fi. So how do you do it?
- 10:09Actually, it's simple from your phone.
- 10:12You activate your hotspot, meaning your
- 10:14phone will share its internet
- 10:16connection. It will act as an internet
- 10:20router. In a way, that's it. So you
- 10:23activate the feature on your phone,
- 10:24whether you are on iPhone or Android,
- 10:26it's pretty much the same thing. Right
- 10:30after, you go into your Tesla, you turn
- 10:32on Wi-Fi and connect to the Wi-Fi
- 10:34emitted by your phone, and then you can
- 10:36access most applications. So, I noted
- 10:40Grok, you can still have it. For music,
- 10:43you can open Spotify, Apple Music, etc.
- 10:46, you can listen to them, it will work.
- 10:50Videos too, YouTube, Netflix, I forgot
- 10:52which one, Twitch, it will work over
- 10:55Wi-Fi, and the browser will work over
- 10:58Wi-Fi. So all of that, in fact,
- 11:00requires connecting to a Wi-Fi network.
- 11:03However, it does not replace all
- 11:05premium features. The subscriptions, in
- 11:08any case, remain separate. Uh, so for
- 11:11example, Premium funds the vehicle's
- 11:13connectivity. It has nothing to do with
- 11:15the other subscriptions, really. What I
- 11:17understand is that the $ 9.99 per month
- 11:20premium connectivity subscription gives
- 11:22you all the possible connectivity on
- 11:24the vehicle. Streaming services have
- 11:27their own terms, meaning you don't have
- 11:29, for example, Netflix included, and
- 11:31you don't have Spotify included. I know
- 11:34that a few years ago, when I got my
- 11:35Tesla with Premium connectivity, a
- 11:37Spotify account was included for us.
- 11:39All of that no longer exists. And there
- 11:41is no Super Grok subscription included.
- 11:43You can use Grok, but you will be
- 11:45limited quite quickly. If you want more
- 11:47messages, you will need to get a Super
- 11:48Grok subscription, which costs about
- 11:50thirty euros a month. In any case, what
- 11:53Premium does not change is that you
- 11:55still have access to the trip planner,
- 11:57so you can plan your trips. You can
- 11:59still access the Superchargers; that
- 12:01remains included. Updates are not
- 12:03reserved for Premium. You can perform
- 12:05vehicle updates. However, you must be
- 12:07connected to Wi-Fi to perform the
- 12:09updates. So, either directly at home
- 12:13via your home Wi-Fi, or by tethering.
- 12:16That is something that works well.
- 12:18Meaning that when I'm on the move, I
- 12:20turn on my hotspot and the Tesla
- 12:22updates download thanks to my
- 12:24connection sharing, and premium
- 12:26connectivity does not change the
- 12:28autopilot. It changes absolutely
- 12:30nothing regarding the autopilot. So, to
- 12:33conclude this video, do you have to pay
- 12:35? Well, the question to ask yourself is
- 12:38: what features do you use regularly?
- 12:41If, for example, you use music, well,
- 12:43you can actually use a hotspot; it
- 12:45works. If you want to while parked. If
- 12:49you watch a lot of YouTube while parked
- 12:51, a hotspot works for that too. Where
- 12:54it has a real benefit is for viewing
- 12:56Sentry Mode cameras remotely. If, like
- 12:59me, you are a bit...let's say, cautious
- 13:02, and you don't want your vehicle
- 13:04damaged, well, in that case, it's worth
- 13:07paying to be able to see the cameras
- 13:09remotely. If you want to access all the
- 13:12cameras directly as well, that's not
- 13:13bad. If you want to have the 3D map,
- 13:16that's also nice to have. So, you
- 13:19really need to define what you use the
- 13:21most in your Tesla and which ones you
- 13:24would miss without Premium. In any case
- 13:27, for me, I'm telling you, I have two
- 13:29Teslas. There's one Tesla that has
- 13:32premium connectivity and the other
- 13:33doesn't. And actually, overall, I don't
- 13:37find it essential to have that premium
- 13:42connectivity. Let's quickly go back to
- 13:45the Tesla site, which also explains
- 13:46things in a bit more detail. So here,
- 13:48we see that with premium connectivity,
- 13:50there's all this. But actually, if we
- 13:53go through the points one by one, for
- 13:54most things, we can actually do them
- 13:56with a hotspot. What will really be
- 14:00reserved for Tesla's premium
- 14:03connectivity is, in fact, satellite
- 14:06view maps. It is mandatory to have
- 14:08premium connectivity. Precipitation and
- 14:11weather forecasts, it's essential.
- 14:14Speed cameras, it's essential. Risk
- 14:17areas, it's essential. Live traffic
- 14:19visualization maps, it's essential. So
- 14:23already, everything related to maps and
- 14:25weather is essential to Tesla's premium
- 14:27connectivity. Sentry mode camera view
- 14:31is essential. Dashcam viewer, same
- 14:34thing on the mobile app, it's essential
- 14:36. And Dog Mode, seeing the cabin camera
- 14:39live, it's essential. OK, all of that
- 14:42is actually essential to premium
- 14:45connectivity. It's just this part,
- 14:47music streaming, you can do that with a
- 14:50hotspot, so it's not essential to have
- 14:52premium connectivity. Video streaming,
- 14:55same thing, you can do it with a
- 14:57hotspot. So it is not essential to have
- 14:59premium connectivity. Karaoke, well, if
- 15:02you intend to use it, for now, you do
- 15:04need premium connectivity. And the web
- 15:08browser, it's not essential to have
- 15:09premium connectivity since you can do
- 15:11it with a hotspot. So today, the
- 15:13question to ask yourself is, mainly,
- 15:16especially for music for example, a
- 15:19hotspot is enough, video streaming, a
- 15:22hotspot is enough, web browser, a
- 15:24hotspot is enough. There you go, I'm
- 15:26repeating myself a lot, but at least I
- 15:28think it's clear for you now. So,
- 15:30however, if you are absolutely looking
- 15:32for those features, uh, the maps, the
- 15:34traffic radars, having really the best,
- 15:36the best possible maps with the weather
- 15:38, uh, with the weather, weather info,
- 15:40all that, if you really want to have as
- 15:42much security as possible, see Sentry
- 15:44mode remotely, and so on, uh, well then
- 15:46, it is worth it to get the Tesla
- 15:47Premium Connectivity. I'm just noting
- 15:50this, I learned it the hard way once.
- 15:53Uh, be careful, to watch the live
- 15:55cameras of your vehicle with Sentry
- 15:57mode, it's 15 minutes per day maximum
- 15:59of streaming. You cannot watch the
- 16:01cameras for more than 15 minutes a day,
- 16:03otherwise you'll get blocked. That is,
- 16:06in any case, what I could tell you in
- 16:08this complete video about Tesla Premium
- 16:10Connectivity. I hope you liked it. I
- 16:13hope it shed some light on your choice
- 16:14to get this subscription or not. You
- 16:16should know that on all new vehicles,
- 16:17one month is offered. So you can test
- 16:19the Premium Connectivity, but
- 16:20afterwards you have to subscribe. There
- 16:22is no advantage either to paying by the
- 16:24year, it's every month at € 9.99.
- 16:26It's up to you to judge if it's worth
- 16:27it or not. Don't hesitate to tell me
- 16:30what you think in the comments section,
- 16:31whether you're taking it or not. For me
- 16:35, to tell you what I think, it's nice
- 16:37but not essential. Clearly, there are
- 16:40times it's practical but it's not
- 16:41always indispensable. At most, if you
- 16:43travel, uh, if you go on vacation once
- 16:45every 6 months, it might be worth
- 16:46getting it for a month from time to
- 16:47time. But on a daily basis, I don't
- 16:50consider it to be really, uh, ultra
- 16:52essential. It's just a shame sometimes
- 16:54that it's not included in the vehicle,
- 16:56but well, that's how it is, maybe one
- 16:57day, who knows. In any case, uh, that's
- 17:00it for this video. If you like this
