  2. 0:05is it just me or his internet culture
  3. 0:06the trolling the outrage and the endless
  4. 0:08hate starting to eat itself this
  5. 0:10election obviously brought out the worst
  6. 0:12in almost everybody from real people to
  7. 0:15Twitter eggs and Anime avatars people
  8. 0:17are constantly attacking others online
  9. 0:20and saying things that they would never
  10. 0:21dare say to someone's face in real life
  11. 0:24the really scary part of this though is
  12. 0:26in the words you guys know I love Free
  13. 0:28Speech but there seems to be no bottom
  14. 0:30to this hole of anger just think about
  15. 0:32your Facebook and Twitter feeds for a
  16. 0:34moment are they enlightening interesting
  17. 0:36and bringing joy and goodness to your
  18. 0:38life or are they an endless Cascade of
  19. 0:40Rants and RAV psychotic ramblings
  20. 0:42endless fighting and non-stop virtue
  21. 0:44signaling I'm going to go out on a limb
  22. 0:46here and guess that for most of you the
  23. 0:48answer is the latter not the former and
  24. 0:50yes there are also a lot of baby
  25. 0:52pictures on Facebook which can be quite
  26. 0:54annoying what I think is most
  27. 0:56interesting about our constant state of
  28. 0:58bickering isn't the obvious fact that
  29. 1:00the internet can bring out the worst in
  30. 1:01all of us but that it seems to me that
  31. 1:04this Behavior and the reaction to it is
  32. 1:06now bleeding out into the real world I'm
  33. 1:08slammed with emails every day in which
  34. 1:10people explain to me how they're
  35. 1:12suffering real world consequences for
  36. 1:14what they post or even what they don't
  37. 1:16post online people are getting fired
  38. 1:18over tweets losing friends over Facebook
  39. 1:21posts and God only knows what's
  40. 1:23happening on Snapchat but perhaps worse
  41. 1:25than all of this is the chilling effect
  42. 1:28that this state of outrage has on the
  43. 1:30rest of us this is why I've said it
  44. 1:32before and I'll say it again the biggest
  45. 1:33threat to free speech is that we are
  46. 1:36actively silencing ourselves not that
  47. 1:39the government is silencing us the
  48. 1:41threat to free speech isn't just that
  49. 1:43protesters are violent at a Milo event
  50. 1:46it's the trickle down effect that that
  51. 1:48has now they're violent at events for
  52. 1:51people like conservatives and
  53. 1:52Libertarians such as Ben Shapiro and
  54. 1:54Charles Murray but of course it won't
  55. 1:55stop there either eventually they'll
  56. 1:57come for liberals too while at the same
  57. 2:00time plenty of other people who just
  58. 2:02won't want to deal with the threats
  59. 2:04simply won't accept invitations to speak
  60. 2:07in the first place the outrage machine
  61. 2:09will just dull us all down to the point
  62. 2:11where we won't share any original
  63. 2:13thought because we just won't want to
  64. 2:14deal with the repercussions this is
  65. 2:16exactly what's happening with Trump
  66. 2:18right now the mainstream media and the
  67. 2:19Twitter Brigade Go Bananas every time
  68. 2:22anything happens the result is that
  69. 2:25people won't be able to gauge the proper
  70. 2:28outrage if he does do something that
  71. 2:30truly warrants it yes he eats his steak
  72. 2:33with ketchup while it is well done that
  73. 2:35sounds horrible to me but you've got to
  74. 2:37deal with it remember the boy who cried
  75. 2:40wolf well now we've got the media who
  76. 2:42cried Trump you think I'm being alarmist
  77. 2:44here well do we seem more politically
  78. 2:47correct or less politically correct than
  79. 2:495 years ago what about 10 years ago do
  80. 2:52you find yourself censoring yourself
  81. 2:54more or less now than you did even last
  82. 2:58year who is forced ing you to censor
  83. 3:00yourself is it the government I don't
  84. 3:02think so I bet you need only look in the
  85. 3:04mirror and guess what this creep of
  86. 3:07stifling speech for fear of being
  87. 3:09ostracized isn't going to magically
  88. 3:11reverse itself we have to proactively
  89. 3:14fight it and we should have started this
  90. 3:16a long time ago take a minute and think
  91. 3:18about our current television programming
  92. 3:20could All in the Family arguably the
  93. 3:22best sitcom in television history with a
  94. 3:25bigoted yet lovable Archie Bunker
  95. 3:28possibly be on network tele Vision today
  96. 3:31the beauty of Archie was that we all
  97. 3:33know someone like him whether that
  98. 3:35person is white brown or blue only
  99. 3:37through seeing these people poking fun
  100. 3:40at them and showing the shortsightedness
  101. 3:42of bigotry can we change our society to
  102. 3:44be more thoughtful and decent for
  103. 3:46everybody even when I watch Seinfeld
  104. 3:49with all of its quirky racially based
  105. 3:51characters jokes about gays women and
  106. 3:52everyone else I think that the
  107. 3:54authoritarians will come for the show
  108. 3:56about nothing which was really a show
  109. 3:58about everything one day as well well it
  110. 4:00won't be the government kicking Jerry
  111. 4:02and the crew off the air it'll be the
  112. 4:04next generation of social justice
  113. 4:06Warriors upset about the episode where
  114. 4:08George wanted a black friend or where
  115. 4:11Kramer wouldn't wear the AIDS Ribbon or
  116. 4:13the ones with characters like Ping the
  117. 4:15Chinese delivery guy or Baboo the
  118. 4:17Pakistani restaurant tour beyond the
  119. 4:19outrage machine there is another
  120. 4:21nefarious layer here which is a whole
  121. 4:23group of people who get off on the
  122. 4:26outrage itself this is the group of
  123. 4:28people who react to anything and
  124. 4:30everything so to get clicks and
  125. 4:32ultimately money from our constant state
  126. 4:34of outrage so when Pewdiepie makes a
  127. 4:37stupid joke about Jews as he did a
  128. 4:39couple weeks ago the bigger reaction is
  129. 4:41from those who want to capitalize on the
  130. 4:43moment rather than those who are
  131. 4:45actually outraged by the joke itself
  132. 4:48then the mainstream media gets involved
  133. 4:50with the Wall Street Journal writing
  134. 4:51about the incident which subsequently
  135. 4:53LED Maker Studios to end their contract
  136. 4:56with Pewdiepie this destructive force
  137. 4:58will take any one down who has moved up
  138. 5:01too far the YouTubers attacking
  139. 5:03PewDiePie wish they had his 55 million
  140. 5:06subscribers and the Wall Street Journal
  141. 5:08sees how his influence believe it or not
  142. 5:10is now dwarfing their
  143. 5:12own as online culture gets woven into
  144. 5:15every facet of Our Lives it's vital we
  145. 5:17all pick up and choose our spots when to
  146. 5:20fight and when to be outraged if we're
  147. 5:22outraged at everything then we're
  148. 5:24outraged at nothing if we spend all day
  149. 5:27online trying to find enemies well then
  150. 5:29guess what enemies will present
  151. 5:31themselves making some intellectual
  152. 5:33point over an opponent has value but we
  153. 5:36have to be careful that the value isn't
  154. 5:38because of the retweets and the
  155. 5:40favorites it Garners I'm sure I could be
  156. 5:42better at some of this myself by the way
  157. 5:44especially on Twitter trolls are always
  158. 5:46going to troll but those of us who want
  159. 5:48to change things for the better have to
  160. 5:50actually be better ourselves final
  161. 5:53thought I was a guest on the Alex Jones
  162. 5:55live show last week as some of you may
  163. 5:56have seen I'm not even fully familiar
  164. 5:58with Alex beyond the little bites I see
  165. 6:00of him screaming and generally going
  166. 6:02nuts that said the guy has a huge
  167. 6:04audience and is clearly influential as
  168. 6:06mainstream media crumbles and online
  169. 6:08media Rises as I've said before this
  170. 6:11comes with both positives and negatives
  171. 6:13but regardless the fact is the guy is
  172. 6:15talking to a huge amount of people
  173. 6:17immediately when I got the request to be
  174. 6:19on the show I thought that I shouldn't
  175. 6:21do it because of the ton of hate that I
  176. 6:22was about to get then I realized that if
  177. 6:24I didn't do the show I would only be
  178. 6:26holding myself Hostage to the very same
  179. 6:29ideas which are silencing so many other
  180. 6:31people right now so I did the show with
  181. 6:33no preparation or Advanced questioning
  182. 6:35and Alex let me say what I wanted to say
  183. 6:38well I got the usual hate from the usual
  184. 6:40haters just for appearing on the show I
  185. 6:42also know that I got some of the ideas
  186. 6:44that I care about to be heard by his
  187. 6:46large audience now maybe some of them
  188. 6:49will come here and learn more about the
  189. 6:50issues that you and I care about if
  190. 6:52you're one of those new viewers welcome
  191. 6:54I don't yell as much but I think you'll
  192. 6:56dig it around here but for the record I
  193. 6:58do not believe that a secret group of
  194. 7:01lizzard people are leading a shadow
  195. 7:02government which is trying to undermine
  196. 7:04our freedoms obviously it's actually a
  197. 7:07group of frog men led by Pepe and
  198. 7:09they're actually a bunch of Freedom
  199. 7:10Fighters good luck to us
  200. 7:12[Music]
  201. 7:16all joining me today is the author of
  202. 7:18several books and the founder and
  203. 7:20current president of the David harowitz
  204. 7:22Freedom Center David harwitz welcome to
  205. 7:25the Ruben report thank you Dave what are
  206. 7:26the chances that you ended up being the
  207. 7:29president of place called The David
  208. 7:30harwoods Freedom Center that is that is
  209. 7:31incredible I I actually fought that name
  210. 7:33but but my board said uh I had I had
  211. 7:37named it the center for the study of
  212. 7:39popular
  213. 7:40culture as a as a leftist I thought it's
  214. 7:43a very hard to
  215. 7:44attack a center for studying anything
  216. 7:48let alone just but conservatives see the
  217. 7:51word culture and they think left so that
  218. 7:53and it was just confusing so they made
  219. 7:56me I said you got to put your name on it
  220. 7:58so so here we are all right so I don't
  221. 8:01know in the years that I've been doing
  222. 8:03this show that I've read anyone's bio
  223. 8:05and found it more interesting than your
  224. 8:07bio it was at least not someone that was
  225. 8:09born in the United States I thought it
  226. 8:11was just there's so much richness there
  227. 8:13your Evolution politically it has a lot
  228. 8:15to do with some of the things that you
  229. 8:16write about about going from the left to
  230. 8:18the right and all that um so I want to
  231. 8:20start with your history first your
  232. 8:22parents were communist card carrying
  233. 8:25card carrying not Communists like the
  234. 8:27Communist that kids that think it's cool
  235. 8:30today talking old school these are these
  236. 8:32are people who are part of a a vast
  237. 8:35International
  238. 8:36conspiracy orchestrated by Moscow um my
  239. 8:40parents my my I don't think my mother
  240. 8:43ever got a traffic ticket they they were
  241. 8:45very middle class not break the
  242. 8:47law um but they did hide an East German
  243. 8:52communist in the basement who the
  244. 8:54government wanted to
  245. 8:55deport how did he get to your basement I
  246. 8:58have no idea I was very very
  247. 9:00young did you know there was someone
  248. 9:02down there I mean did you know something
  249. 9:04was going on deer was his name I forgot
  250. 9:06the last name his brother was the mayor
  251. 9:08of East
  252. 9:09Berlin okay um but um yeah they were
  253. 9:15very
  254. 9:16conspiratorial um they never refer to
  255. 9:20themselves as Communists only as
  256. 9:22progressives even then because it wasn't
  257. 9:25a dirty oh it was very dirty it was a
  258. 9:28dirty word popular healthy period but um
  259. 9:31because this anti-American left very
  260. 9:35subversive ready to work with the our
  261. 9:38enemies so you know a horrible
  262. 9:41totalitarian dictatorship were
  263. 9:45effectively
  264. 9:46quarantined we lived in a kind of ghetto
  265. 9:49where you couldn't say what you what you
  266. 9:51believed and that for a Democrat or with
  267. 9:55a small D for a liberal minded person
  268. 9:58that doesn't seem right but it was
  269. 9:59actually
  270. 10:00healthy given the Cold War at the time
  271. 10:05so so so what did it mean at you need to
  272. 10:08have a stigma on people who hate this
  273. 10:10country and we we've lost that
  274. 10:12completely so so we'll get to that part
  275. 10:15CU that really sort of that gets to the
  276. 10:17evolution part of where you're at now so
  277. 10:19we were stigmatized and uh but what did
  278. 10:21they believe like what did that actually
  279. 10:22mean if you said you were a communist in
  280. 10:25you know we're talking the 1940s now I
  281. 10:28nothing my my mother was a registered
  282. 10:30Democrat um I don't think anything
  283. 10:33different from certainly not the
  284. 10:34Democratic party of today although then
  285. 10:37I mean when Roosevelt was President they
  286. 10:39were all happy Democrats when
  287. 10:42Truman um declared that uh America would
  288. 10:46defend free peoples fighting for their
  289. 10:49freedom against the Soviet Union they
  290. 10:51all defected that formed the Progressive
  291. 10:53Party which was run by the Communist
  292. 10:55Party yeah and then around 1956 if I'm
  293. 10:58not mist and all the information comes
  294. 11:01out about Stalin and then that sort of
  295. 11:03right that was my way I was 17 at the
  296. 11:06time and that was my kind of Awakening
  297. 11:09that everything that the William Buckley
  298. 11:12who we hated the right that the right
  299. 11:14said the Right Said Stalin had killed 7
  300. 11:17million people he actually killed about
  301. 11:1940 million um and we said was this was
  302. 11:22all anti-soviet lies the Soviet Union
  303. 11:25was a a paradise of the future everybody
  304. 11:29equal everybody working everybody happy
  305. 11:32all lies but we my community believed
  306. 11:36them and then kushev came along with
  307. 11:39this gave a secret speech that the
  308. 11:41Israeli mosad smuggled
  309. 11:43out and it just it blew up my community
  310. 11:47that there were divorces in our that we
  311. 11:51knew of uh over people dividing over the
  312. 11:53cruise Trevy Port people felt betrayed
  313. 11:56they had lived a lie and other people
  314. 11:59felt you know you continue you go on and
  315. 12:02they defended it yeah and that that made
  316. 12:05marriages untenable
  317. 12:08yeah right you think it's tough now for
  318. 12:10marriages when people are going I love
  319. 12:12Trump I hate Trump but but that's that's
  320. 12:14that's Earth shaking stuff your whole
  321. 12:16narrative yes so I came into the when I
  322. 12:20went to college I mean
  323. 12:22my mission self
  324. 12:27self-developed um was to rescue the left
  325. 12:31from
  326. 12:33stalinism um I still believed in this
  327. 12:36future where every you know Common uh
  328. 12:40government ownership of the means of
  329. 12:41production and equality and everything
  330. 12:45um and so I I was a fervent new leftist
  331. 12:49I was one of the actually one of the
  332. 12:51creators of the new left I was at
  333. 12:54Berkeley um we published a magazine
  334. 12:57called wuen branch and uh
  335. 12:59but by the end of that decade it was
  336. 13:01clear the left was a totalitarian force
  337. 13:04it couldn't it it was
  338. 13:07supporting you know whatever was the ma
  339. 13:10maoists they were maist ma killed more
  340. 13:13people in Stalin um and uh so you saw
  341. 13:18that change from what you thought was
  342. 13:20something decent you saw that basically
  343. 13:22anything related to authoritarianism
  344. 13:24would be sort of pieced into this my my
  345. 13:27most I had two serious ious deviations I
  346. 13:30had a nuclear family and everybody else
  347. 13:33was living in communes or whatever
  348. 13:37um but the more serious one was that I
  349. 13:39read books so
  350. 13:42I I I remember when Billy A's uh was
  351. 13:45elected vice president when the weather
  352. 13:47people took over SDS this is a a a
  353. 13:51college senior he boasted that he hadn't
  354. 13:54read a book in a year I was horrified as
  355. 13:56a leftist by that statement
  356. 13:59um but what was so his argument was what
  357. 14:01I'm not being programmed by these people
  358. 14:03no but they no was an irresponsible twit
  359. 14:07I mean it's you know came from wealth
  360. 14:10very you know privileged uh I have I
  361. 14:13have nothing good to say about Billy a
  362. 14:15but by saying I I haven't read a book in
  363. 14:17year who is he how is he trying to
  364. 14:18impress Somebody by that he trying to
  365. 14:19imp well because the books are written
  366. 14:22by the ruling class or what what did
  367. 14:25Mark say the ruling ideas are the uh
  368. 14:28ideas of ruling class completely false
  369. 14:31how would you explain our universities
  370. 14:33today Marx is full of crap I mean that's
  371. 14:35the first thing you have to yeah well
  372. 14:37we'll get to our universities don't
  373. 14:38worry about that but wait a minute the
  374. 14:39first one you mentioned there was you
  375. 14:40came from a nuclear family and that was
  376. 14:42then a problem I had a nuclear family
  377. 14:44yeah oh you had your own nuclear family
  378. 14:46at that time okay but you also came from
  379. 14:48a nuclear by the end of the decade I had
  380. 14:50four children yeah yeah so why was that
  381. 14:52a problem for them because they want uh
  382. 14:54they didn't I wasn't expelled from the
  383. 14:56left I I I was
  384. 14:59um well what happened to me was that I I
  385. 15:04I edited ramp Parts which was the
  386. 15:07leading it was the biggest magazine of
  387. 15:08the left and a Hollywood
  388. 15:12producer producer of easy
  389. 15:14Ryder um was a
  390. 15:16big uh funer and sponsor of the Black
  391. 15:20Panther Party and he he introduced me to
  392. 15:23huie Newton because he wanted me to take
  393. 15:26Eldridge Cleaver had been on our Mast
  394. 15:28head uh and Eldridge there was a war it
  395. 15:31was basically a black panther party is a
  396. 15:35a street gang and uh this was a contest
  397. 15:39for leadership um so he
  398. 15:44um he introduced me and I I got involved
  399. 15:48raising money for the Panthers I raised
  400. 15:50for a
  401. 15:51school um I was very impressed they had
  402. 15:54a lot of children and the panther party
  403. 15:56was a mix there were you know genuinely
  404. 15:59good people and there were
  405. 16:01gangsters um and the good people
  406. 16:04impressed me and uh one of them was
  407. 16:06running the
  408. 16:07school a school and they were jammed
  409. 16:12into a uh Brown Shingle House in uh in
  410. 16:17Oakland I mean they they had
  411. 16:19double-decker beds from one wall to the
  412. 16:21other wow for the kids so
  413. 16:23I um I thought this Hollywood producer
  414. 16:27would give me the money but it it didn't
  415. 16:29turn out that way but I
  416. 16:31raised I think it was
  417. 16:33$125,000 which a lot of money in those
  418. 16:35days and bought a
  419. 16:37church a Baptist Church in East Oakland
  420. 16:40that had been overtaken by the uh inner
  421. 16:43city was a white Baptist Church and I
  422. 16:47and I I signed up the check um I created
  423. 16:50the Oakland Community Learning Center of
  424. 16:53501c3 to house the school I'll never
  425. 16:56forget the uh the minister said to me as
  426. 16:59I handed him the check I hope you're not
  427. 17:01going to turn this over to the Black
  428. 17:04Panthers or the Nation of
  429. 17:07Islam did he know who that you were
  430. 17:09working with them at all at the time
  431. 17:11with the Black Panthers he had no idea
  432. 17:12so he was literally joking to you like
  433. 17:15most of the left today I had no idea who
  434. 17:17they were the Panthers MH um but anyway
  435. 17:22I've told this story in a radical son my
  436. 17:24autobiography anyway in in uh 1974 I
  437. 17:29recruited the bookkeeper my bookkeeper
  438. 17:32at ramparts to do the books for the
  439. 17:33school because I believed our own
  440. 17:36propaganda that the government was
  441. 17:38racist and that they would shut down the
  442. 17:40Panthers if they didn't keep the books
  443. 17:44which was ridiculous I mean look at
  444. 17:46Jesse Jackson look at Al Sharpton I mean
  445. 17:48he's a huge tax Vader yeah and he's
  446. 17:53walking the streets because he's
  447. 17:54Progressive in Black he's
  448. 17:56protected um and in December 1974 uh
  449. 18:01Betty disappeared and by the time the
  450. 18:03police fished her body out of San
  451. 18:05Francisco Bay I knew the Panthers had
  452. 18:07killed her I had been interviewed by the
  453. 18:09police they explained to me lots of
  454. 18:11things very difficult to hire to dispose
  455. 18:14of a body unless you have an
  456. 18:17organization and then it's not so hard
  457. 18:19you have safe houses and this and that
  458. 18:22um and so when that happened um I was
  459. 18:26personally devastated I mean I was in
  460. 18:29the same place my parents were being
  461. 18:31embarrassed by the cruise d report
  462. 18:34something I swore that would never
  463. 18:36happen to me
  464. 18:38um and I I I'm curious were your parents
  465. 18:40around at the time yeah my mother was
  466. 18:42very they were worried for my safety as
  467. 18:45they should be I was threatened by
  468. 18:46Elaine Brown who was the head of the
  469. 18:48Panthers and is alive today um toasted
  470. 18:53by the Atlanta Journal Constitution and
  471. 18:56uh funded by actually conservatives uh
  472. 19:00often not always to speak on college
  473. 19:04campuses um she was the head of the
  474. 19:06party uh wait why would conservatives
  475. 19:09fund her now has she evolved I forget
  476. 19:11that what's the name of this a big
  477. 19:12Orange County Foundation they gave her
  478. 19:14$10,000 to speak at uh I can't remember
  479. 19:18it was UC Santa Barbara h i with the
  480. 19:21students there informed me now because
  481. 19:25uh uh conservatives in this country are
  482. 19:28are are well-meaning
  483. 19:29uh liberal-minded people generally
  484. 19:33especially the ones with money um give
  485. 19:36you the benefit of the doubt I mean
  486. 19:38here's a black person claiming that
  487. 19:40America is an oppressive country oh sure
  488. 19:42here has some
  489. 19:46money
  490. 19:47anyway
  491. 19:49uh I was personally devastated I was
  492. 19:53clinically I would say clinically
  493. 19:54depressed for seven or eight years I me
  494. 19:57I wake up in tears every morning I felt
  495. 20:00responsible for having recruited Betty
  496. 20:03uh her name was Betty Vamp patter the
  497. 20:05woman who was murdered she was a mother
  498. 20:07of three
  499. 20:08children
  500. 20:10um the ideology is so pernicious that on
  501. 20:14the way to the to Betty's funeral her
  502. 20:17daughter who worked for me and was I
  503. 20:19don't know if she was 19 or 20 at the
  504. 20:21time I tried to warn her I mean I was
  505. 20:23afraid for my children but I said I
  506. 20:26think the Panthers killed your mother
  507. 20:29and her response was no they're good
  508. 20:32people so so I set out then to
  509. 20:37warn when I had sort of assimilated all
  510. 20:42this uh I I'm my mission was to warn
  511. 20:46other
  512. 20:46people and that's how I know that Barack
  513. 20:49Obama is a communist all right so wait
  514. 20:52let's let's pause before we jump to to
  515. 20:54modern day because everything that you
  516. 20:56just described there was why I thought
  517. 20:57your bio was so interesting cuz you grow
  518. 20:59up with Communists you know I didn't
  519. 21:01know about the guy I I didn't know about
  520. 21:03the guy in the basement but you I mean
  521. 21:04you you are firmly on the left your
  522. 21:06whole first 40 some ideas I was a Marx I
  523. 21:09wrote a book called Empire and
  524. 21:11Revolution which the left used right so
  525. 21:13leftist communist Marxist I mean so yeah
  526. 21:17Paul Berman for
  527. 21:18example
  528. 21:20um said of the of my book that it was
  529. 21:24like a I don't know what he said a
  530. 21:25handbook a Bible of for the for the left
  531. 21:29before he called me a
  532. 21:31renegade for leaving the left right
  533. 21:34right so that's so you're you're a hero
  534. 21:37but the second you now change now of
  535. 21:39course if you deviate from the Party
  536. 21:41Line This is what political people don't
  537. 21:44realize political correctness is a term
  538. 21:46that mousy dong the greatest mass
  539. 21:48murderer in human history invented to
  540. 21:50shut people up it's the party line if
  541. 21:53you deviate from the party line they
  542. 21:55throw you into the cold yeah all right
  543. 21:58so now
  544. 21:59let's Flash Forward unless there's
  545. 22:00something major or shoot you right so
  546. 22:03they first they silence you then they
  547. 22:05shoot you and you know uh so unless I'm
  548. 22:07missing something I think we can Flash
  549. 22:09Forward now to around 85 which is really
  550. 22:11when you then right um what happened was
  551. 22:15when this happened I was writing I I had
  552. 22:19um left ramp Parts with Peter ker who
  553. 22:23was my
  554. 22:25buddy uh and it was Peter's idea that to
  555. 22:29write a a a dynastic
  556. 22:33biography uh the The galsworthy Saga was
  557. 22:36on PBS at the time or so it was a
  558. 22:40generational Saga so I was in the midst
  559. 22:43of writing a book on the Rockefellers
  560. 22:45which became a bestseller and then we
  561. 22:48were asked to do a book on the
  562. 22:50Kennedy which came out
  563. 22:52in
  564. 22:551985 and uh in 198 and and uh
  565. 22:59at when it came out it was a number one
  566. 23:01New York Times
  567. 23:03bestseller and uh the Washington Post
  568. 23:06the editor of the Washington Post Sunday
  569. 23:08magazine called
  570. 23:09me to pick my brain about young Joe
  571. 23:13Kennedy it was a congressman and he said
  572. 23:16what have you guys been doing I oh you
  573. 23:18won't believe this but Peter and I just
  574. 23:20voted for Ronald Reagan and neither
  575. 23:22Peter and I had talked before casting
  576. 23:25that boat wow oh that's a good story you
  577. 23:28want to WR it so our story was better
  578. 23:30Ron than red but he renamed it lefties
  579. 23:33for Reagan right so then and that's when
  580. 23:35the knives came out and Peter said to me
  581. 23:37at the time I just show you how deep
  582. 23:41the current rot the fake news
  583. 23:45is um we were Front Page New York Times
  584. 23:48MH both books both the Rockefellers and
  585. 23:52Sunday times and the New York Times sets
  586. 23:54the standard for all the media they even
  587. 23:57reprint print the reviews but
  588. 24:01um and when our article came out on we
  589. 24:05voted for Reagan Peter said to me our
  590. 24:09literary careers are over wow I said you
  591. 24:12must be joking I me so you really had no
  592. 24:15idea IDE even though you knew some of
  593. 24:18the tactics OB but it was exactly right
  594. 24:20that was the end I don't my last 20
  595. 24:23books have the New York Times They
  596. 24:26noticed one and called me a relic for
  597. 24:28using the word
  598. 24:30communist it was just a squib right so
  599. 24:34even though you knew all the tactics
  600. 24:36that could be coming down your way and
  601. 24:37the way you'd be treated I've never been
  602. 24:39a realist about that that's so you so
  603. 24:41that's it you just weren't a realist in
  604. 24:42your own even though you saw you had
  605. 24:44such a history of seeing what would
  606. 24:46happen yeah not that parents than
  607. 24:47communism black p I can never believe
  608. 24:50that people um can be you know so
  609. 24:53ideological and so duped and I should
  610. 24:55know yeah I think I'm suffering from a
  611. 24:56little of this right now when I'm the
  612. 24:58rubbers meeting the road with me at the
  613. 24:59moment of of this kind but what was it
  614. 25:02about was it something about rean or was
  615. 25:04it really about Mand Reagan yeah it was
  616. 25:08uh this happened earlier um I bumped
  617. 25:11into into the parking lot of the
  618. 25:13Berkeley Co-op uh which is a supermarket
  619. 25:17that was we everybody liked because it
  620. 25:19was a
  621. 25:20Cooperative um when uh Rolling Stone
  622. 25:24actually published a story that Peter
  623. 25:26and I did on the weather the Weather
  624. 25:27Underground
  625. 25:29telling the truth about it um and
  626. 25:33uh this woman I knew met me in the
  627. 25:36parking lot she said David you know
  628. 25:37people really hate you
  629. 25:41now truth about these crazy terrorists
  630. 25:45is what they were who got people
  631. 25:48killed and they hate you now they hate
  632. 25:50you they hate me for for saying the
  633. 25:53truth about it yeah but but what was it
  634. 25:55about Reagan also that then they hat in
  635. 25:58the way they hate Trump yeah it was the
  636. 26:00same kind of
  637. 26:03hatred they pick out they just hate it's
  638. 26:06it's because he's he's not one of
  639. 26:09us it's it's very visceral yeah is that
  640. 26:13what it more than anything ironic for
  641. 26:15the media he's not one of them you know
  642. 26:16he was an act and you
  643. 26:18know I don't
  644. 26:20know the the
  645. 26:22Trump phenomenon and problem is a little
  646. 26:25different but it's it's not all that
  647. 26:27different I mean Reagan was an actor
  648. 26:30that they looked down on that
  649. 26:32um you know um vanon Mei wrote a
  650. 26:36pamphlet called the uh an essay which is
  651. 26:39a pamphlet called the anti-c capitalist
  652. 26:43mentality why do academics um hate
  653. 26:48capitalism why are they so left and the
  654. 26:52answer is because they feel Superior to
  655. 26:55businessmen and here's Trump the
  656. 26:56businessman MH uh businessmen are
  657. 27:00yahoos they have no respect for what it
  658. 27:03takes to build a billion dooll Empire
  659. 27:06for them it's all theft or something
  660. 27:09underhanded it's it's theft or it's
  661. 27:10crony capitalism or something Reagan was
  662. 27:13like that he was an actor how dare he be
  663. 27:15pres we're so much smarter than he is we
  664. 27:18should be running the country so
  665. 27:21intellectuals I think it was about
  666. 27:22intellectuals generally they don't they
  667. 27:25they feel that they're smarter than
  668. 27:26everybody else right cuz they haven't
  669. 27:28actually created for the most part so
  670. 27:30they have to sort of elevate they want
  671. 27:32the P they think the power should go to
  672. 27:34them and I learned very early when I was
  673. 27:37still a leftist when Jack Kennedy was
  674. 27:39assassinated and Lyndon Johnson became
  675. 27:42president I was living in England and of
  676. 27:43course Europeans looked at on Americans
  677. 27:46from the beginning of the Republic but
  678. 27:51um LBJ he had the LBJ cufflinks and the
  679. 27:55LBJ children and the LBJ dog dos and the
  680. 28:00you know so they they just thought he
  681. 28:03was this is a yahoo this is a you
  682. 28:07know and Johnson was much smarter than
  683. 28:10Jack
  684. 28:11Kennedy he he went to East Texas State
  685. 28:14teachers college but he imp he
  686. 28:17unfortunately he put in place the Great
  687. 28:19Society which is an albatross on
  688. 28:22America's neck has been for low these
  689. 28:26this half century but but he was smart
  690. 28:29he knew how to get it through Congress
  691. 28:32and Jack Kennedy couldn't get any of it
  692. 28:33through yeah and now Congress barely
  693. 28:35works so that's why when Trump came
  694. 28:38along I I wasn't one of these never
  695. 28:41trumping inside the Beltway snobs
  696. 28:44although some of my my good friends went
  697. 28:47down that path okay so you you have this
  698. 28:50this final Awakening you write this
  699. 28:52thing then a year later I think in ' 86
  700. 28:54you wrote why it was it why I left the
  701. 28:56left I wrote and I say look I as I say I
  702. 29:01I I I was personally threatened by
  703. 29:03Elaine Brown um and then in a I have the
  704. 29:08tape of the phone conversation which she
  705. 29:11said if you if you should get run over
  706. 29:15David really I'm I'm I'm going to be
  707. 29:18your best friend because people will say
  708. 29:20I did it something like that I mean it
  709. 29:22was a nak a threat um so I was
  710. 29:26afraid uh I fed to Kate Coleman who
  711. 29:30wrote an article for a now defunct
  712. 29:33leftwing
  713. 29:34magazine uh it's called the party over
  714. 29:37about the criminality of the Panthers
  715. 29:39which I had discovered by personal
  716. 29:42investigation
  717. 29:45um uh but uh
  718. 29:49uh I forgot well get getting to the
  719. 29:51Village Voice piece oh The Village Voice
  720. 29:54yeah so I finally in 1986 which is it's
  721. 29:58a decade later I wrote a piece why I am
  722. 30:01not no longer a
  723. 30:03leftist and uh and referred to this I
  724. 30:07did not name The Killers but I did refer
  725. 30:10to the murder and the pan that the
  726. 30:12Panthers had murdered her and
  727. 30:16um Paul Burman wrote this piece uh about
  728. 30:21the Renegade harowitz the intellectual
  729. 30:23life and the Renegade harowitz that was
  730. 30:25a vicious attack mhm and uh he had me at
  731. 30:28the end of his piece cheering on sua who
  732. 30:32was a psychopath that was a contra in
  733. 30:36Nicaragua whom I hadn't even heard of
  734. 30:38when he called me he said in Hart his
  735. 30:40cheering wakes up the next morning
  736. 30:42cheering sua so basically you you went
  737. 30:44off the reservation officially with this
  738. 30:46article and then you had said the knives
  739. 30:48were already out no it was with the
  740. 30:50Reagan article yeah with the Reagan
  741. 30:52article was the this one was this is
  742. 30:54right this is right at the left right so
  743. 30:57this was a what it was a year later
  744. 30:58right I think it was 85 and ' 86 so a
  745. 31:00year later so the knives were already
  746. 31:01out and then this was like sort of the
  747. 31:03final door on that's right and that's so
  748. 31:051986 87 that's like 30 years ago is that
  749. 31:08what it is something like that in 30
  750. 31:11years my work has never been taken the
  751. 31:15work the the ideas my arguments with the
  752. 31:18left why I'm no long I wrote a long
  753. 31:21essay on on leaving the left um and why
  754. 31:25I left it uh
  755. 31:29never uh responded to the nation made
  756. 31:33one stab at it but not a very good
  757. 31:36one on the other hand there's like
  758. 31:38100,000 attacks on me on the internet
  759. 31:41from leftist so it's not like they don't
  760. 31:43think that I need to be refuted they
  761. 31:46think it's just more effective to
  762. 31:48pretend he well if it makes you feel any
  763. 31:49better right before we sat down I was
  764. 31:50scrolling my Twitter feed and some
  765. 31:52article was written about me where they
  766. 31:53referred to me as a right-winger and
  767. 31:55then got a few other things incorrect
  768. 31:56about me and then my own audience
  769. 31:59actually started attacking them on
  770. 32:01Twitter and then they they didn't issue
  771. 32:03a retraction but they changed the
  772. 32:04headline at least and change one other
  773. 32:06thing which of course is not
  774. 32:07journalistically uh sound but I guess
  775. 32:10maybe I'm picking up some of the well at
  776. 32:13first it hurts but eventually you you
  777. 32:15get to be liel proof they they liel you
  778. 32:18so much that it just seems ridiculous
  779. 32:20more than anything else it's just lazy
  780. 32:22lazy and ridiculous well you you know
  781. 32:24I'm an easier Target than you are
  782. 32:27because I vowed when I left the left
  783. 32:29that I was going to talk to the left
  784. 32:31address them in the same way that they
  785. 32:33address everybody else though oh I talk
  786. 32:36to them nicely yeah you
  787. 32:39very very hard to demonize I'm sort of
  788. 32:42easy so when you see you you had some
  789. 32:46nice things to say about me when you sat
  790. 32:47down and when you see someone like me
  791. 32:49that's understands the title of this
  792. 32:51book that understands your journey and
  793. 32:53all that do you think I was just even
  794. 32:55though obviously we have 30 some IDE
  795. 32:57years between us that I was just late to
  796. 32:59the game and picking up what was going
  797. 33:01on here or do you think something also
  798. 33:03happened in the last couple years with
  799. 33:04the
  800. 33:05left two things first of all starting
  801. 33:09with the McGovern campaign that's when
  802. 33:11it started the Communist left
  803. 33:14infiltrated and took over the Democratic
  804. 33:17party um I mean Tom
  805. 33:20Hayden who is no longer with us uh was a
  806. 33:24cynical
  807. 33:26anti-American lying
  808. 33:29radical uh and he was given the medal of
  809. 33:31freedom by Bill Clinton um uh he was a u
  810. 33:37state legislator in the state of
  811. 33:39California you can still see his work
  812. 33:41whenever you see prop 65 that warns you
  813. 33:44about the bad effects of chemicals and
  814. 33:48your whatever oh yeah it's everywhere
  815. 33:49here in
  816. 33:51La um but the Democratic party took the
  817. 33:55left
  818. 33:56in the
  819. 33:58the anti the anti-American
  820. 34:02totalitarian and I would say racist left
  821. 34:04I will explain that more later but
  822. 34:06racist left was taken into the bosom of
  823. 34:09the democratic party in the Clinton
  824. 34:12Administration and with Obama they got
  825. 34:14one of theirs in the White House okay so
  826. 34:17let so let's pause there for a second so
  827. 34:19when I hear you say that about the
  828. 34:20Clinton Administration that's hard for
  829. 34:21me to picture because those eight years
  830. 34:24were
  831. 34:25basically I don't think we saw a lot lot
  832. 34:27of what we're seeing right now so what
  833. 34:29what am I missing well you missed the
  834. 34:31you didn't know the personalities uh
  835. 34:33from one um I've written a uh let's put
  836. 34:38it this way I think back to the Clinton
  837. 34:39Administration very fondly still that
  838. 34:41things were basically they were terrible
  839. 34:43that they were basically first of all
  840. 34:45let's let's Bill
  841. 34:47Clinton's was is not an ideologue in the
  842. 34:49way that Hillary Clinton is Bill
  843. 34:51Clinton's idology was
  844. 34:53Mah it was his
  845. 34:55ideology and but that you would argue
  846. 34:57that's probably a Saving Grace then in
  847. 34:59this corruption is far better than
  848. 35:01communism
  849. 35:03yeah if it weren't for the corruption of
  850. 35:06the clintons Bernie Sanders would have
  851. 35:07been a
  852. 35:09nominee um that's a great quote there
  853. 35:12did you just quote corruption is far
  854. 35:13better than communism that's a good one
  855. 35:15it is it is because you you can deal
  856. 35:17with it doesn't have the ideology that
  857. 35:19sweeps people along with it Bill Clinton
  858. 35:21domestically was a fairly Centrist uh
  859. 35:25you know I don't have too much to
  860. 35:26quarrel with him
  861. 35:28there uh uh on foreign policy was
  862. 35:32terrible absolutely terrible the World
  863. 35:34Trade Center was blown up in uh
  864. 35:371993 uh by Ramsey Yousef he intended to
  865. 35:41kill 50,000 people or 200,000 to top of
  866. 35:45one of the towers on the other the bomb
  867. 35:47is fired it wounded a thousand people it
  868. 35:50killed six Bill Clinton never visited
  869. 35:53the
  870. 35:53site dismissed it as an individual
  871. 35:56criminal act when it was inspired by the
  872. 35:59blind Sheik who just
  873. 36:01been um Osama Bin Laden we should have
  874. 36:05been stopped in the 90s before the World
  875. 36:08Trade Center was I I can go I've written
  876. 36:11a lot about this so Bill but in the case
  877. 36:14of that in the case of the the First
  878. 36:15World Trade Center bombing so what do
  879. 36:16you think was going on then in Bill
  880. 36:18Clinton's head when so this happens he
  881. 36:20never visited what is what's the
  882. 36:22ideology there that would lead him to
  883. 36:24that it's an interesting question I wish
  884. 36:26we had a um one of these Democrats on
  885. 36:29and you could ask them the question um I
  886. 36:33I'll try to get a former Adra just to
  887. 36:36skip ahead uh in this book I've written
  888. 36:40big agenda I I lay out what I think is
  889. 36:43going on that that uh the Democratic
  890. 36:46party is now a racist
  891. 36:48party uh if you use the the phrase
  892. 36:51people of color is a racist phrase
  893. 36:54identity politics is racist and it's
  894. 36:57anti American the fundamental American
  895. 37:00idea is that we're all creatures of a
  896. 37:05Divinity or maybe Nature's God whatever
  897. 37:08Jefferson wrote there um and equal in
  898. 37:13the eyes of our creator therefore we
  899. 37:15should be treated equally by our
  900. 37:17government and we have rights that are
  901. 37:20inalienable that government can't take
  902. 37:23away so it's all about individual
  903. 37:26freedom and most most importantly
  904. 37:28individual
  905. 37:30accountability when I was a kid in in
  906. 37:32public schools we
  907. 37:35always uh there was this phrase
  908. 37:38regardless of race color or
  909. 37:41Creed um an American is somebody who
  910. 37:45doesn't look at your Origins We're a
  911. 37:47nation of immigrants that way don't look
  912. 37:49at your origins of course if you come
  913. 37:51from a terrorist
  914. 37:54country we maybe we should have a
  915. 37:58a little betting process yeah
  916. 38:01um identity politics is the opposite
  917. 38:05what the left seeks the we are in a
  918. 38:07civil war situation now um and the
  919. 38:11reason is the reason it's so
  920. 38:13irreconcilable is that the left believe
  921. 38:16is a is racist it believes in a racial
  922. 38:18hierarchy so if you're the right skin
  923. 38:21color which is dark you go to the head
  924. 38:23of the line for admissions to college
  925. 38:25you go to the head of the line for job
  926. 38:26you go to the head line for a promotion
  927. 38:29you go to the headle line for almost
  928. 38:31anything everything's not diverse enough
  929. 38:34so we'll take
  930. 38:35anybody um so what would you say to the
  931. 38:37people that would say well white people
  932. 38:39had it good for a long time and and yeah
  933. 38:41and white people bad things and they did
  934. 38:44good things and one of the good things
  935. 38:45that white America did was to liberate
  936. 38:48the slaves people forget that we
  937. 38:50inherited
  938. 38:52slavery uh this is how I made myself
  939. 38:55notorious in the left by coming out
  940. 38:57against reparations for slavery 137
  941. 39:00years after the
  942. 39:02fact um America inherited a system of
  943. 39:05slavery slavery existed I learned this
  944. 39:07from Orlando Patterson who is a black
  945. 39:10left of
  946. 39:11center um sociologist at Harvard who's
  947. 39:14written prizewinning books on slavery
  948. 39:17and
  949. 39:18freedom slavery existed for 3,000 years
  950. 39:22nobody ever said it was immoral not
  951. 39:24Jesus not Moses not Aristotle
  952. 39:27until a white Christian males in England
  953. 39:31led by Wilbur Force said it's immoral
  954. 39:34and an American slave owner Thomas
  955. 39:36Jefferson wrote it into the birth
  956. 39:38certificate of this country that all men
  957. 39:41are created equal in a given right to
  958. 39:44Liberty by their creator within 20 years
  959. 39:47the slave trade was ended um the reason
  960. 39:51that America didn't initiate a Civil War
  961. 39:55in 1776 to free the slaves one of the
  962. 39:59biggest reasons was that England would
  963. 40:02have come and just retaken the colonies
  964. 40:04and reinstituted
  965. 40:06um slavery anyway and within a
  966. 40:08generation or a little more given in
  967. 40:11those days people lived shorter
  968. 40:13lives uh at the cost of uh
  969. 40:16350,000 Union Soldiers we liberated the
  970. 40:19slaves and liberated them throughout the
  971. 40:22hemisphere so black people Americans can
  972. 40:26be very proud proud of their Heritage um
  973. 40:29you know it's it's a human Heritage so
  974. 40:32it's got a lot of bad spots but you look
  975. 40:34at any other country in the world and uh
  976. 40:37forgive me lepus for saying
  977. 40:39this this one is the
  978. 40:42best what other country du Asians get in
  979. 40:45boats and risk their lives to get into
  980. 40:48you think they're coming here to be
  981. 40:49oppressed right I mean everybody
  982. 40:51everybody wants want to be here and then
  983. 40:53the funny thing is this at the same time
  984. 40:55you go to watch some of these protests
  985. 40:57and the people that are screaming about
  986. 40:58how racist and evil and patriarchy and
  987. 41:00all this stuff they're also the ones
  988. 41:02calling for open borders they want
  989. 41:03everyone to share in the horror that is
  990. 41:05well just destroy the country as anybody
  991. 41:07with any sense knows so how it's all but
  992. 41:09let me just say yeah the left is is it
  993. 41:15it's owes whatever ideas it has to Marx
  994. 41:19it's the Marxist Paradigm of the
  995. 41:21oppressors and the oppressed and it's an
  996. 41:24economic it begins as an economic and
  997. 41:26they've layered on race and gender um so
  998. 41:31but the fact is what determines a
  999. 41:34country's Prosperity is culture not
  1000. 41:38classes it's culture America has a great
1001. 41:41culture we take in I one of the things
1002. 41:44we do is we take in brilliant people
1003. 41:46from all over the world and uh give them
1004. 41:49freedom to innovate other countries copy
1005. 41:53our Innovations Israel is the same way
1006. 41:55it's why they hate it
  1007. 41:58because they're bringing in people from
1008. 42:00all over the world giving them
1009. 42:01opportunity BR but but also it's the
1010. 42:03freedom yeah people do not appreciate
1011. 42:06freedom in this country obviously since
1012. 42:08we our universities are now totalitarian
  1013. 42:11institutions I can't go to a university
  1014. 42:13without bodyguards yeah and that's been
  1015. 42:17true for the last 15 years I've been
  1016. 42:20physically attack if I didn't have
  1017. 42:23bodyguards and if the university didn't
1018. 42:24put in place security I could never get
  1019. 42:27through a speech yeah and I'm not alone
  1020. 42:29it's any conservative no it's all
  1021. 42:31virtually any conservative and it's and
1022. 42:32now it's moderates and this is fascism
  1023. 42:35and it's it's totally embedded in our
1024. 42:38University system yeah do you make a
1025. 42:40distinction between sort of the leaders
1026. 42:42who really understand the stuff that
1027. 42:44you're talking about so the people who
1028. 42:46who are the leaders of this leftist
1029. 42:48movement versus the the bulk of the
1030. 42:51people who I think are following along
1031. 42:54without bad intentions like when I see
1032. 42:56all these kids who I you know I mock
1033. 42:58them on Twitter course people go to
  1034. 42:59demonstrations to get laid
1035. 43:02Yeah Yeah you know and people are
1036. 43:04gullible and they don't think and they
1037. 43:06can't put two and two together the
  1038. 43:09phrase I didn't want to skip this people
  1039. 43:12of color is a racist phrase It's not
  1040. 43:17English do we say here's a box of
  1041. 43:20crayons of color it's French that's the
1042. 43:23way French people speak Purp or whatever
  1043. 43:27they say yeah so it's a completely
1044. 43:30ideological construct what is its
1045. 43:33function well let's look at the Mexico
  1046. 43:37two main ethnic
1047. 43:39groups the descendants of the Spanish
  1048. 43:42conquistadors who slaughtered the
1049. 43:43indigenous Indians and the descendants
1050. 43:45of the indigenous Indians when they
1051. 43:48cross the border they're both people of
  1052. 43:50color therefore they're oppressed both
  1053. 43:51of them the
1054. 43:53Conquistadors and the indigenous people
1055. 43:55they're oppressed they deserve special
  1056. 43:58sensitivities and special privileges
1057. 44:01maharajas in India are people of color
1058. 44:05beheaders in raqqa are people of color
1059. 44:09who aren't people of color white people
1060. 44:11yeah white people are evil bad this is a
1061. 44:14most this is this is the racist ideology
1062. 44:18of our time is it also lacking in
1063. 44:21several other ways I mean for example
1064. 44:22you could take American Indians uh
1065. 44:25people who've moved here from India or
1066. 44:27their grandparents moved here from India
1067. 44:28or you could take Asian people of
  1068. 44:30virtually any nationality and they don't
1069. 44:33count in this leftist thing because they
  1070. 44:36economically well the Indians haven't
  1071. 44:39yeah the Native Americans I'm sorry I
  1072. 44:41that was a
  1073. 44:42ridiculous now I'm gonna we're not going
  1074. 44:45to edit that out because I don't believe
1075. 44:46in that but that was an completely
  1076. 44:47idiotic statement I me I meant American
1077. 44:50Indians from India who moved to America
1078. 44:52not Native Americans correct yeah
1079. 44:55correct Chinese the Japanese American
1080. 44:57Indians not Native Americans thank you
  1081. 44:59for that's correct I just ruined my
1082. 45:01course they don't like success minor you
  1083. 45:05you don't don't look over your
  1084. 45:07shoulder there's only arrows there's
  1085. 45:09only arrows
1086. 45:11coming um Indian joke right there yeah I
  1087. 45:14mean the the
1088. 45:17left is is pathetic intellectually they
1089. 45:21don't have an argument so they have to
1090. 45:23purge those groups because those groups
1091. 45:25yeah that's why they have to shut you up
  1092. 45:26because they can't deal with your
  1093. 45:28arguments it's really simple
1094. 45:30straightforward and and it so invaded
1095. 45:32our literary culture the last two
1096. 45:34national book awards were given to
1097. 45:36racist tracks won by tanahi coats I can
1098. 45:40never remember the title um was it just
1099. 45:44a rank racist coats uh what what
1100. 45:49inspired him to write the book it's
1101. 45:50about how evil America is but how how
1102. 45:54was the murder of his friend not the
  1103. 45:56murder
1104. 45:57the killing of his friend by a policeman
  1105. 45:59in
1106. 46:00Maryland it turns out as he tells you
1107. 46:04that the policeman the policeman accused
1108. 46:07uh the Dead uh his dead friend of trying
1109. 46:10to run him over with his
1110. 46:12car the policeman is black so how what
1111. 46:16does coat say he was thinking white now
1112. 46:19if that isn't the purest racism yeah and
1113. 46:22this one now it's called stamp from the
  1114. 46:24beginning it's a semil literate book
1115. 46:27that that it I mean that that they have
  1116. 46:29lowered their
  1117. 46:30standards so dramatically as
1118. 46:33a it still shocks me because these are
1119. 46:36intelligent people that people who give
1120. 46:38the awards but I should know better um
1121. 46:41but it opens with uh the police
1122. 46:44shootings of criminals in the last year
1123. 46:48which were totally distorted by black
1124. 46:51lives matter and other leftists into
1125. 46:54cops gunning down unarmed black these
1126. 46:57were predators and who did they pray
1127. 46:59pray on they prayed on black people
  1128. 47:02Freddy gray I
1129. 47:04mean you know you could go on uh I can't
1130. 47:07even remember the names a guy in
  1131. 47:09Ferguson
1132. 47:10um they're criminals who pre on black
1133. 47:14people but this guy has them as innocent
1134. 47:17blacks who are gunned down by racist
1135. 47:19cops so at the opening of his book which
1136. 47:21is which he has called the definitive
  1137. 47:24history of racism in America he's
  1138. 47:26exposes a liar and he won a national
1139. 47:28book award so our institutions have been
1140. 47:31just generally corrupted yeah so what is
1141. 47:35by This Racist ideology of the left so
1142. 47:38for a lot of people hearing this I think
1143. 47:39a certain amount of people hearing this
1144. 47:40are going to go yeah I get it see you
1145. 47:42don't talk quite like this which is why
  1146. 47:44I think you're much harder to uh I'm I'm
  1147. 47:47I I want to see you with a uh a
  1148. 47:50so-called liberal I don't call them
  1149. 47:52liberals cuz they're bigots yeah well
1150. 47:54I've had many Progressive progressives
1151. 47:56on this show and I treat them with the
  1152. 47:57same respect that I treat anybody else I
1153. 48:00I my general rule is I don't find that
1154. 48:02Bering somebody or belittling them but
  1155. 48:05yeah as I say I made this vow 30 30
1156. 48:08years ago that I was going to berate the
1157. 48:11left I was going to take hey hey LBJ how
1158. 48:14many kids did you kill today I actually
1159. 48:17when I was still sort of leaving the
  1160. 48:18left I thought about that statement a
  1161. 48:21lot saying let's see if I were a
1162. 48:24prisoner of war and I was in a room with
1163. 48:27my captor would I rather it was LBJ or
  1164. 48:31hoi Min and it was a
1165. 48:35no-brainer so that's part of it is that
1166. 48:37you just constantly say the worst thing
  1167. 48:39about your intellectual opponents
1168. 48:41because there's no end here that you
1169. 48:43just just constantly say anything to you
1170. 48:47and that's why I love Milo CU he just
1171. 48:49throws it right back in there face and
1172. 48:52that's what really needs to be done
1173. 48:53these people need to be embarrassed
  1174. 48:55although I probably beond embarrassment
  1175. 48:58yeah I I mean uh ABC
1176. 49:01News Stephanopoulos is sitting there
1177. 49:03with Katrina abon who who whose entire
1178. 49:06life has been spent apologizing for
1179. 49:09defending and uh advancing communist
  1180. 49:11causes the hell is that that's
1181. 49:15ABC that's how far gone this country is
1182. 49:18so are all the answers then for you on
1183. 49:21the right or do you have frustrations
1184. 49:23with the right because I think right
1185. 49:24before we started we only talked for
  1186. 49:25about 30 seconds think you said
  1187. 49:27something liberal i' I tried to
  1188. 49:31um no I mean I I I you know what did I
1189. 49:37oh I I took on the leaders of the
  1190. 49:40religious right um
1191. 49:43over uh Mark R rasc uh was the governor
1192. 49:47of Montana and was the chairman of the
1193. 49:49RNC met with the I think it's called The
1194. 49:52Human Rights Association which is a gay
  1195. 49:55group and he
1196. 49:57addressed them or whatever met with them
1197. 50:00and he was denounced by Paul wrick and
  1198. 50:04very well-known leaders of the religious
  1199. 50:06right and I wrote an article I saying
  1200. 50:09that um a political party is not a
  1201. 50:11religious movement or shouldn't be and
1202. 50:15uh it's the job of the RNC chair to
1203. 50:17reach out yeah and and so forth and I've
1204. 50:22never been an opponent of gay marriage
1205. 50:24and I you know I could go on and on yeah
1206. 50:28and you you mentioned before that
  1207. 50:30abortion although you you're not a fan
1208. 50:33to say the least but you are pro-choice
  1209. 50:35right so no I wouldn't describe myself
  1210. 50:37as pro-choice I I I um and it's been a
1211. 50:42long lifetime of rethinking this issue
  1212. 50:45when I grew up uh abortions
1213. 50:50were uh illegal after the third
1214. 50:54month and we know a lot lot more now and
1215. 50:59medical techniques well well we just
1216. 51:01know a lot more about fetuses um and you
1217. 51:04know there they're if you think about it
  1218. 51:06they're children from conception I mean
  1219. 51:08I just it's not an argument there's a
  1220. 51:11person
1221. 51:12already um you think from the moment of
1222. 51:14yeah and the woman it's not about the
  1223. 51:17woman's body
1224. 51:18alone uh you know I I think the fathers
1225. 51:23are involved as well but certainly
  1226. 51:25there's a child there
1227. 51:27so you know the argument against it is
1228. 51:29you want to bring a kid into the world
  1229. 51:31that's going to have a absolutely
  1230. 51:33miserable life because it's a wrong
1231. 51:35parent at the wrong time you know and I
1232. 51:37I I think the energy should be spent
1233. 51:40on finding ways to take care of of
  1234. 51:43children that their parents aren't able
  1235. 51:45to take care of it's a very vexed
  1236. 51:48problem yeah and I
  1237. 51:50don't I've I've confronted uh
  1238. 51:53right-wingers actually within the
  1239. 51:54Heritage Foundation debate
  1240. 51:57you know who said it's murder I said
1241. 51:59well if you think it's murder then you
1242. 52:01should be demanding the execution of
1243. 52:03every mother in America is that an
  1244. 52:04abortion and if you don't it's a much
  1245. 52:06more complicated problem so that's kind
1246. 52:09of where I am what was his response to
1247. 52:11that and shut him up that that gets him
1248. 52:14real quiet well that's why the abortion
1249. 52:15one to me is is one where I think very
1250. 52:18good people on both sides of this are
  1251. 52:20just struggling with it's because it
1252. 52:22almost is coming down to the basic
1253. 52:23questions of life and it is but but you
1254. 52:26can't discuss basic questions in our
1255. 52:28political atmosphere not with the left I
1256. 52:31me the left wants to convert everything
  1257. 52:32into a morality play where they're right
1258. 52:35how much of this is culture did you see
  1259. 52:37that change too that it's just I know
1260. 52:40you're saying the culture is the most
1261. 52:41important thing but when did it go from
  1262. 52:43like I I was thinking even this morning
1263. 52:45left started taking over the
  1264. 52:46universities in the 70s now they they've
1265. 52:49got the K12 schools as well um and you
1266. 52:54know I conducted a was five or sixy Year
1267. 52:58campaign to try to get a an academic
1268. 53:00Bill of Rights really a student Bill of
  1269. 53:02Rights that students have a right to a
  1270. 53:05professional education and in a
1271. 53:07democracy that means that they uh
1272. 53:10professors can express their opinions
1273. 53:12but they have to present the opposing
  1274. 53:14sides of controversial issues in a
1275. 53:16fair-minded way and I was attacked from
1276. 53:20one end of the country the other is a
1277. 53:22torada and a th controller was very
1278. 53:25liberal and I did it all out of their
  1279. 53:27own documents there's a very famous
1280. 53:30academic freedom statement that was
1281. 53:32drawn up what's the Thought control part
1282. 53:34of trying to get more thought in there
1283. 53:36don't you know it can't be logical with
  1284. 53:38the
1285. 53:39leftist this is the a these are
  1286. 53:43stalinists I mean I debated them across
1287. 53:45the country they gosh I mean they they
1288. 53:48put me through the ringer but you know
1289. 53:49like I say you get to a point where
  1290. 53:51you're liel prooof because they've
1291. 53:53libeled you so much that it does doesn't
1292. 53:55have but they fought it tooth and nail
  1293. 53:58and for example I had
1294. 54:01praised uh in all of my speeches this
  1295. 54:04it's is a 1915 statement on academic
1296. 54:07freedom by the American Association of
  1297. 54:09University
1298. 54:11professors and the Penn State still has
1299. 54:14as it AC or had as its academic freedom
1300. 54:17provision the statement that the
1301. 54:19obligate the it is not the place of a
  1302. 54:23professor in a Democratic Society to
1303. 54:25indoctrinate his or her students
1304. 54:28therefore they must present Divergent
  1305. 54:31opinions in a fair-minded manner that's
1306. 54:33a paraphrase of it and I praise that and
1307. 54:36so the head of the aaup Carrie Nelson
1308. 54:41made it a personal crusade to get that
1309. 54:43ripped out of the Penn State academic
  1310. 54:46freedom provision the so the so-called
1311. 54:48liberal person right wanted now this to
1312. 54:51be removed he's atist Carrie he actually
1313. 54:54I mean he's defended me in some so he's
  1314. 54:57like an
  1315. 54:59un whatever he's not quite of a
1316. 55:03doctrinaire but but he did The Faculty
1317. 55:06sent it there ripped it out and took out
1318. 55:08explicitly the thing it's not the place
1319. 55:10to indoctrinate the students yeah do you
1320. 55:12find when you when you meet people maybe
1321. 55:15some young people that are waking up to
1322. 55:16some of this stuff that once they see
1323. 55:18one piece of it that the rest of it
1324. 55:20crumbles very quickly because I see this
1325. 55:22because I saw it happen with myself
  1326. 55:23obviously and I and for me it's still
  1327. 55:26unfolding process I think and that's why
1328. 55:28I I'm happy to have these conversations
1329. 55:30but I see it happening with other people
1330. 55:31now I get emails every day people be
1331. 55:33like one little thing happened and then
1332. 55:35l two months later I now believe
1333. 55:38everything that Steve Miller says it was
  1334. 55:40guns that's what turned him from a
  1335. 55:42liberal into a
1336. 55:44conservative um I have uh somebody who
1337. 55:48who who writes occasionally from front
1338. 55:50page my website uh who who heard me
1339. 55:54speak in Camden New Jersey and I pointed
1340. 55:56out as I as I do in my book big
1341. 55:59agenda um every inner city of any size
  1342. 56:03is 100% controlled by the Democratic
1343. 56:06party and progressives it has been for
1344. 56:0750 to 100 years including Camden so
1345. 56:11everything Milwaukee Atlanta Chicago all
1346. 56:13these plac all the Killing Fields St
1347. 56:15Louis Baltimore right um everything
1348. 56:18that's wrong in the inner cities that
1349. 56:20policy can affect Democrats and
1350. 56:22progressives are responsible for once
  1351. 56:24you see that it's all over
1352. 56:27and then there are people out there
  1353. 56:28screaming that it's he wasn't even
  1354. 56:30President we we had this I here's a left
  1355. 56:34this
1356. 56:34mentality when Peter ker and I wrote the
1357. 56:38uh this bestseller around the kennedies
1358. 56:40we found ourselves in a green room of uh
1359. 56:44Good Morning America sitting and there
1360. 56:47were only three people the other person
  1361. 56:48was William F
1362. 56:50Buckley and was dead silence in the
1363. 56:53room and uh the reason
1364. 56:57that Peter and I were silent as we is we
1365. 56:59we had no idea who Buckley was we just
1366. 57:01knew we didn't want to be nice to a
1367. 57:05fascist that's what the left called him
1368. 57:07a fascist so we don't want to be nice to
1369. 57:08a fascist so Peter broke the ice by
1370. 57:11saying my mother is a big fan of yours
1371. 57:13and then we found out from Buckley who's
1372. 57:15a very gracious human being um that he
1373. 57:19was silent because his son had just uh
  1374. 57:22written a very critical attack on a
1375. 57:25Kennedy book that was another one that
1376. 57:26came out and he didn't know if it was
1377. 57:30ours uh there but the lack of Civility
1378. 57:33of the left it just it's so it's fascist
  1379. 57:36that's what it is and it there's there's
1380. 57:38no way I mean the only response you can
1381. 57:41have is one like Milo just go in their
1382. 57:44face otherwise I just shout you down
1383. 57:47yeah there is a an Incredible video that
1384. 57:49I saw a couple years ago of you at
  1385. 57:52University of San Diego I think and a a
1386. 57:56young Muslim student gets up very
1387. 57:58articulate with a head scarf yeah and
1388. 58:01she At first she opens by thanking you
  1389. 58:04for coming and saying she's that
1390. 58:05sarcastic diversity of thought and if
1391. 58:08people can watch it we'll link to it
1392. 58:10below so people can actually watch the
  1393. 58:11video there's a twang of sarcasm in it
1394. 58:13or or it was either sarcasm or she was
1395. 58:15trying to butter you up before she went
1396. 58:17for the kill uh can you explain the rest
  1397. 58:19of what happened there so that I don't
1398. 58:21then edit it she cuz it's falsely
1399. 58:26accused the Muslim Students Association
1400. 58:29of being a front for the Muslim
1401. 58:30Brotherhood which it is and
  1402. 58:33Hamas
1403. 58:35so and and we had distributed a pamphlet
1404. 58:37showing this um so I instead of arguing
1405. 58:43with her about whether the Muslim
1406. 58:45Students Association and students for
  1407. 58:47justice Palestine they're both Hamas
1408. 58:49fronts Brotherhood fronts uh instead of
1409. 58:53arguing with her I just decided to cut
1410. 58:55to the chase I said will you condemn
  1411. 58:57amamas as a terrorist organization and
  1412. 58:59she
1413. 59:00said uh you want to crucify me I said
  1414. 59:05come I don't know how how I respond to
1415. 59:07comeing in and she said well if I don't
1416. 59:10condemn Hamas then I will be arrested by
1417. 59:13the Department of Homeland Security this
1418. 59:15is how delusional these people are so I
1419. 59:18changed the question and I had done this
1420. 59:20at other campuses so I knew what sort of
1421. 59:22to expect I said let me put it to you
1422. 59:25this I'm a Jew and the head of hisbah
1423. 59:28says he wants us Jews to gather in
1424. 59:30Israel so he won't have to hunt us down
1425. 59:32globally for it or against it she leaned
1426. 59:36into the microphone and said for it and
1427. 59:38she was defended afterwards by the
1428. 59:40Muslim Students Association the whole
1429. 59:43left they're genocidal they want to kill
1430. 59:46the Jews when she said that I suspect
1431. 59:49you were not shocked as insanely
1432. 59:51shocking as that sounds no because I had
1433. 59:54it I and you see Santa Barbara I asked
1434. 59:57the same question of the head of the
1435. 59:58Muslim Students Association and he said
  1436. 1:00:01it was too complicated a question for a
1437. 1:00:03yes no answer right genocide is too
1438. 1:00:05complicated he was smarter than she was
1439. 1:00:08right hers was just like hers was just
1440. 1:00:10showing you what they think and what
  1441. 1:00:11they want so all right so let's let's
1442. 1:00:14shift to to Islam then
  1443. 1:00:17um I I've been talking about it and I've
1444. 1:00:20tried to bring on I've brought on
1445. 1:00:21liberals to talk about it I've had you
1446. 1:00:23know very measured people like Sam
1447. 1:00:25Harris quote pupes I've had aan her Alon
1448. 1:00:28who talks about her own personal
1449. 1:00:30experience enemies of the left people
  1450. 1:00:33who are Majid noaz who's a Muslim Harris
  1451. 1:00:35is you know he's still a leftist liberal
  1452. 1:00:38yeah he's he's a liberal he's a liberal
  1453. 1:00:40whether that I I I don't want to speak
1454. 1:00:41for him I don't get him into any extra
1455. 1:00:43trouble um but I've had my point is that
1456. 1:00:46I've had plenty of people thought of as
1457. 1:00:47liberals or on the left discuss it they
1458. 1:00:50get hate from the left then I've had
1459. 1:00:51people more on the right talk about it
1460. 1:00:54such as Lauren Southern and Ben Shapiro
1461. 1:00:57and some others and of course they're
1462. 1:00:59going to get a certain amount of hate
1463. 1:01:00for it how do you gauge how much of a
1464. 1:01:03problem this actually is at the moment
1465. 1:01:07the problem being the problem being
  1466. 1:01:09Islamic
1467. 1:01:10extremism or VI or whatever you call it
  1468. 1:01:13I think Islam is a a problem I no
1469. 1:01:17rational person could not look at Islam
  1470. 1:01:19and say it's a not a problematic
1471. 1:01:21religion it preaches hatred against all
  1472. 1:01:23other religions it sanctions
  1473. 1:01:26uh there's just a series of quotes from
1474. 1:01:28the Quran sanctions murder beheading of
1475. 1:01:33infidels which is what we are um the
1476. 1:01:36prophet Muhammad has said has said that
1477. 1:01:38the day of judgment will only
1478. 1:01:41come when the Muslims fight the Jews and
1479. 1:01:44kill them when the Jews hide behind the
1480. 1:01:47rocks and the trees and the rocks and
  1481. 1:01:49the trees cry out oh Muslim there's a
1482. 1:01:51Jew hiding behind me come and kill him
1483. 1:01:54yeah talk not only not
  1484. 1:01:58repudiated by organized
  1485. 1:02:01Islam uh but it's
1486. 1:02:03repeated um Yousef Al karwi um said as
1487. 1:02:09much the Holocaust was a punishment on
  1488. 1:02:12Egyptian
1489. 1:02:13TV and he is the Imam the leading Imam
  1490. 1:02:17not
1491. 1:02:18only for the Muslim Brotherhood but fora
  1492. 1:02:21abedine Hillary's right hand that's her
1493. 1:02:24Imam that the the Holocaust was God's
1494. 1:02:27punishment of the Jews for their
1495. 1:02:29corruption and it will come again uh
1496. 1:02:32this time Allah willing at the hands of
  1497. 1:02:35the Believers he's a genocidal Nazi is
1498. 1:02:38kadai and he's the mm of Hillary
1499. 1:02:41Clinton's rightand and Deputy in charge
1500. 1:02:44of Muslim Affairs for the state
  1501. 1:02:46department yeah it's a big problem not a
1502. 1:02:49little one yeah so Keith Ellison is the
1503. 1:02:52Muslim Brotherhood uh candidate uh is
1504. 1:02:55now the number two guy in the Democratic
1505. 1:02:57party he only missed by 13 votes yeah
1506. 1:03:00how could the Democratic party Embrace
1507. 1:03:02this and Tom perz is no better but at
1508. 1:03:04least Ellison has an open record uh you
1509. 1:03:07know uh of of being in bed with the
1510. 1:03:10Muslim Brotherhood being supported by
1511. 1:03:12them and being a faran Jew hater and
1512. 1:03:15America hater and white hater come on
1513. 1:03:19what happened to the Democratic party
1514. 1:03:21yeah I mean and the faran stuff is
1515. 1:03:22amazing because even in the last couple
  1516. 1:03:23days I don't follow faran verified
1517. 1:03:26Milo's not on Twitter anymore but I was
  1518. 1:03:28looking at farrakhan's Twitter feed or
1519. 1:03:30something got retweeted into my feed I
1520. 1:03:32mean it's all God will destroy America
1521. 1:03:34hate all the Jews hate white people and
1522. 1:03:36he was for 11 years a spokesman for the
  1523. 1:03:38Nation of
1524. 1:03:39Islam and you know people they have to
1525. 1:03:43repudiate what they did that this is
1526. 1:03:45this is why I say Barack Obama is a
1527. 1:03:47communist he was raised by Communists
1528. 1:03:50he's his whole political career until he
1529. 1:03:53became United States Senator was in the
  1530. 1:03:56Communist left uh I mean I know these
  1531. 1:03:59people
1532. 1:04:01um if you are part of a movement that
1533. 1:04:04you know is evil the first thing you
1534. 1:04:06want to do is warn other people about it
  1535. 1:04:08especially when it's so deceptive it
1536. 1:04:10talks about social justice and all this
1537. 1:04:13crap anyway no well I mean that's but he
1538. 1:04:16hasn't so that's how you know what his
1539. 1:04:18allegiances are and when you asked me
  1540. 1:04:21about the
1541. 1:04:22U this was earlier in our conversation
  1542. 1:04:25about
1543. 1:04:26about why why is the Democratic party so
  1544. 1:04:29soft on Islamic
  1545. 1:04:31terrorists they're people of
1546. 1:04:35color that has to play a big role and
1547. 1:04:38first thing you do is oh we have to
  1548. 1:04:40understand if they're killing people it
1549. 1:04:42must be because we did
1550. 1:04:44something very sick yeah what is that
1551. 1:04:47self- flagellation that so many people
  1552. 1:04:49in the west have it's guilt I mean
1553. 1:04:52Shelby steel has WR guil of success
1554. 1:04:54Shelby steel has written a book called
1555. 1:04:56white guilt yeah it'll bring down our
  1556. 1:04:59our great
1557. 1:05:01civilization if it's not you know and we
1558. 1:05:05haven't talked about Donald Trump which
1559. 1:05:06is the subject of my book yeah okay so
1560. 1:05:08let's I think is I think if we have an
  1561. 1:05:11antidote he's he's it so you really
1562. 1:05:14believe that that Trump and that you
1563. 1:05:16know I was going to say a second ago
1564. 1:05:18when you were talking about uh you know
1565. 1:05:20fighting the roots of Islamic extremism
1566. 1:05:22I mean Bannon from what I understand
1567. 1:05:25seems to be the architect of that that
  1568. 1:05:28he's a good guy Steve bennon
1569. 1:05:30yeah so you don't believe him to be an
1570. 1:05:33anti-semite or hell no first of all the
  1571. 1:05:36chief evidence there's two evidence
1572. 1:05:39given that Steve Bannon is an
1573. 1:05:41anti-semite one is a disgruntled wife in
1574. 1:05:44the middle of a divorce proceeding in
1575. 1:05:46custody case who said who claimed that
1576. 1:05:48he said that Jewish children are
1577. 1:05:51whiny which well may well be the case if
1578. 1:05:54you you know the the whole ritual of bar
  1579. 1:05:56mitzvah you shower a 13-year-old with
1580. 1:05:59tons of money and give him an audience
1581. 1:06:02of adults okay so they might be a lot to
1582. 1:06:05deal with they might be whining who
1583. 1:06:07knows right um but that's certainly not
  1584. 1:06:10um
1585. 1:06:11juting um right regard even if even if
1586. 1:06:15say it that's not you'd have to big deal
1587. 1:06:19fighting with that wife that over the
1588. 1:06:22kids and when they go to school and
1589. 1:06:23maybe the school was very expensive is
1590. 1:06:25an expensive School the Archer School
1591. 1:06:28the other evidence is an article that I
1592. 1:06:30wrote I gave the title to uh Bill
1593. 1:06:35Crystal Republican spoiler Renegade Jew
1594. 1:06:38uhuh so people who haven't read the
  1595. 1:06:40article I read the article I did not
1596. 1:06:42find anything anti no he Renegade
1597. 1:06:44because he he's going to return hum
1598. 1:06:47abedine and Ben rhods who was the
1599. 1:06:50architect one of the architects of the
1600. 1:06:53Iran deal back to Power
1601. 1:06:56it's a death nail for Israel I mean what
1602. 1:06:58they've done eight and not to mention
  1603. 1:07:01the United I mean it's not Iran isn't
1604. 1:07:03powerful enough to destroy the United
1605. 1:07:05States but its leaders do chant lead
1606. 1:07:07chance of death to America that's what
1607. 1:07:09they believe why if Franklin Roosevelt
1608. 1:07:13gave nuclear weapons to Hitler what
1609. 1:07:15would we call them Obama is an American
  1610. 1:07:18traitor and that's because he's a
1611. 1:07:20communist and always has been and always
1612. 1:07:22will be so I know enough people are
1613. 1:07:24going to watch that and go wait a minute
1614. 1:07:25but the deal says that they can't get
1615. 1:07:26nukes but you would say Well it mean
1616. 1:07:28expires it expires there one it expires
1617. 1:07:31two what he the effect of the deal was
1618. 1:07:33to lift the sanctions bring Iran back
1619. 1:07:36into the community of Nations he gave
  1620. 1:07:38them
  1621. 1:07:38$200 billion dollar 200 billion 100 well
1622. 1:07:43I forget all the payments and there's no
1623. 1:07:47controls but even if there were controls
1624. 1:07:50why would you bring them out of
1625. 1:07:51isolation now Iran is running over the
1626. 1:07:53Middle East they over through the
1627. 1:07:55government in Yemen you know which is
1628. 1:07:58why we now are losing American lives
  1629. 1:08:01there come
  1630. 1:08:02on anyway so so that's why I thought
  1631. 1:08:05that Crystal and I didn't attack Crystal
  1632. 1:08:08during during the
  1633. 1:08:10campaign you know look I you
1634. 1:08:14know I can see Donald Trump I can see
1635. 1:08:17why he upsets some people yeah I can see
1636. 1:08:19how in my view the
1637. 1:08:22exaggerated you know the whatever the
  1638. 1:08:24fears the you know I don't think for a
  1639. 1:08:27second that he's anti-mexican or bigoted
1640. 1:08:30in any way um and it you know and I'm
1641. 1:08:33I'm one of those people who says well
  1642. 1:08:35look he's been in public life for 30
  1643. 1:08:36years he didn't become a racist until he
  1644. 1:08:39was running against a Democrat For
  1645. 1:08:41Crying Out
  1646. 1:08:42tears I so I but I I could see uh how
1647. 1:08:47people would get been out of shape
  1648. 1:08:48during the
  1649. 1:08:49campaign but once he's the
1650. 1:08:52nominee then it's him or Hillary and if
  1651. 1:08:55it's Hillary it's haa abedine I mean
1652. 1:08:57it's you know the whole anti-israel crew
1653. 1:09:01so you can sympathize then with Bill
1654. 1:09:03Crystal's intent so Bill Crystal who
  1655. 1:09:05wanted conservatism all you know what's
1656. 1:09:07thought of as real real conservatism to
1657. 1:09:10live forever these are relig these are
1658. 1:09:12these are people treating Politics as a
1659. 1:09:14religion if you don't refer to the
  1660. 1:09:17United States as a constitutional
  1661. 1:09:18republic you're not a conservative if
1662. 1:09:21you don't use the phrase limited go
1663. 1:09:23limited government he never said said
  1664. 1:09:25that that that that's not look what he's
  1665. 1:09:28doing now I mean he's cutting the
  1666. 1:09:30government in a
  1667. 1:09:32big so they'll be I mean it's just crazy
1668. 1:09:35he won me over this way I mean I was
1669. 1:09:38nervous about him through the campaign
1670. 1:09:39because you don't know uh you know this
1671. 1:09:42is his first Venture into politics I
  1672. 1:09:44don't I don't know I'm I'm not nervous
  1673. 1:09:46about him anymore although I think he'll
1674. 1:09:48disappoint me on some things but he won
1675. 1:09:51me over in the first debate here's a guy
  1676. 1:09:55he's never been a a a political
  1677. 1:09:57candidate before he's on a platform with
1678. 1:10:00uh 12 of uh you know the top Republicans
  1679. 1:10:04in the country it's in front of I don't
  1680. 1:10:07remember it's 30 million people or
1681. 1:10:09whatever it is and the fir and he gets
1682. 1:10:12the first question because he has the
1683. 1:10:13highest percentage in the polls and it's
  1684. 1:10:16not a question it's an attack from Megan
1685. 1:10:19Kelly you called women fat pigs slobs
  1686. 1:10:23and
1687. 1:10:24dogs and and he says oh that was just
1688. 1:10:26Rosie Odon I said this guy is a guy they
  1689. 1:10:29can't
  1690. 1:10:30intimidate because the political
1691. 1:10:32correctness is a party line as I said it
  1692. 1:10:36comes from ma it's a like a Communist
1693. 1:10:38Party Line it shuts you up there is no
1694. 1:10:42other Republican Under the Sun who on
1695. 1:10:45national TV this time in front of 50
1696. 1:10:47billion people would have looked Hillary
  1697. 1:10:48Clinton in the eye and said you're a
  1698. 1:10:51liar and a crook even though she's both
1699. 1:10:54if it were a man they would say it why
  1700. 1:10:57be because it's this gigantic double
  1701. 1:11:00standard it's Politically
1702. 1:11:03Incorrect to say anything critical about
1703. 1:11:06a woman this is ridiculous if that's the
1704. 1:11:09case they shouldn't be in politics now
1705. 1:11:12the left will just take out that phrase
1706. 1:11:13shouldn't be in politics but you can't
1707. 1:11:15be protected and at the same time
1708. 1:11:17pretend to be strong you know it's
1709. 1:11:19interesting how pricious some of this
1710. 1:11:20stuff is because I'll even see sometimes
1711. 1:11:22if if if a man attacks me on Twitter not
1712. 1:11:24that Twitter are that important but I'll
1713. 1:11:26immediately defend myself and come back
  1714. 1:11:28and I've had a few instances where women
  1715. 1:11:30have and I've just ignored it because I
1716. 1:11:32don't want to attack a woman and I know
  1717. 1:11:33that's my own then that's it's just my
1718. 1:11:36own reflection of what I'm you know
1719. 1:11:38we've all been schooled in that and then
1720. 1:11:40there's penalties you have to think
1721. 1:11:42quickly about what the consequences are
1722. 1:11:44how do you it so that desire to punch
1723. 1:11:47back or to not be held hostage by
1724. 1:11:49political correctness or all that stuff
1725. 1:11:51would you argue that that is far more
1726. 1:11:52important than any of his political
  1727. 1:11:55totally
  1728. 1:11:55that that's what once I saw here's a guy
  1729. 1:11:59who the Democrats can't intimidate look
1730. 1:12:02I I use this phrase in my speeches
  1731. 1:12:04whenever I see a republican square off
1732. 1:12:06against a Democrat it looks to me like
1733. 1:12:08Godzilla versus Bambi because the
1734. 1:12:10Republic the the Democrat is going to
  1735. 1:12:13call the Republican a racist a sexist a
1736. 1:12:15homophobe an islamophobe and the
  1737. 1:12:18Republican will call the Democrat a
1738. 1:12:21liberal who's going to win that argument
  1739. 1:12:24so this is a bul
1740. 1:12:25or and I love the way they they call
1741. 1:12:28Trump a blitz Creek the Democrat Blitz
1742. 1:12:31Creek uh we have a tradition in this
  1743. 1:12:33country it's sacred to a democracy of a
1744. 1:12:36honeymoon for an incoming president it
  1745. 1:12:38says there's a peaceful transition of
1746. 1:12:40power it says we're all part of one
1747. 1:12:42Community it says we're going to see
1748. 1:12:44what you do and then we're free to
1749. 1:12:46criticize you and the remedy is the next
  1750. 1:12:50election Trump didn't get 7 seconds he
1751. 1:12:53didn't get confirmation hearings he got
  1752. 1:12:54a witch
1753. 1:12:56the and this is another example of how
1754. 1:12:58political correctness Works uh Jeff
  1755. 1:13:01sessions I've known him for 20 years one
1756. 1:13:04of and I've known a lot of senators one
1757. 1:13:06of a handful of the most decent human
1758. 1:13:08decent human beings in the Senate a
1759. 1:13:11champion of civil rights this was an
1760. 1:13:13attorney general in a deep south St
1761. 1:13:16State who prosecuted the K clux Clan who
  1762. 1:13:18desegregated the schools and there's
  1763. 1:13:21Elizabeth Warren calling him a racist
1764. 1:13:23and then violating Senate rules to
1765. 1:13:26repeat calling him a racist and when
1766. 1:13:28she's told to shut up they say oh
  1767. 1:13:31they're silencing another
  1768. 1:13:33woman yeah that's how effective
1769. 1:13:35political correctness is it just to be
  1770. 1:13:37clear for people that didn't didn't
1771. 1:13:39follow that whole thing she was reading
  1772. 1:13:41other people's words which isn't
1773. 1:13:42technically allowed in the Senate so
1774. 1:13:44that she was doing something that she
1775. 1:13:45wasn't allowed to do by their own rules
1776. 1:13:47then everyone turned it into happened to
1777. 1:13:49be a letter from ketta Scott King that
1778. 1:13:51she was repudiated what happened was uh
1779. 1:13:54in Alabama there were there were three
1780. 1:13:57blacks who who's uh were defrauded of
1781. 1:14:01their voting rights because they were in
1782. 1:14:02opposition to three other blacks who
  1783. 1:14:05were nacp corrupt officials that's the
1784. 1:14:08whole case and and uh sessions didn't
1785. 1:14:12know how to defend himself the first
1786. 1:14:14time he was up in the 80s I mean this is
1787. 1:14:15a thing Republicans are not used to
1788. 1:14:18fighting back they used to getting out
1789. 1:14:20of the way as why wouldn't you if people
1790. 1:14:23are calling you racist sexist
1791. 1:14:25to so it's obvious to me that that stuff
1792. 1:14:28is not working as much anymore so then
1793. 1:14:31my last question that that is amazing so
1794. 1:14:34the words aren't but what I now think is
1795. 1:14:36we're going to see more violence because
1796. 1:14:38they've been pinned into a corner where
  1797. 1:14:40everyone that they're against is a Nazi
1798. 1:14:41and a racist and all those things we
  1799. 1:14:42will see violence so I I suspect we're
1800. 1:14:44going to see more violence but my last
1801. 1:14:46question to you is with this Evolution
1802. 1:14:50with with now the first Republican as
  1803. 1:14:53you're saying with Trump that's not
  1804. 1:14:54going to take it
1805. 1:14:55it what what's the good path now like
1806. 1:14:58what if you could see something good
1807. 1:15:00coming out of these next couple years
  1808. 1:15:02what is that
1809. 1:15:04path you know I I am uh Antonio gromy
  1810. 1:15:09once said that
1811. 1:15:10um the Revolutionary for the
1812. 1:15:14Revolutionary must have pessimism of the
1813. 1:15:17intellect and optimism of the will and I
1814. 1:15:21think he stole that from
  1815. 1:15:23somebody um
  1816. 1:15:25I can't I can't remember who but I think
1817. 1:15:27he did it it's in Wikipedia well if it's
1818. 1:15:30in Wikipedia definitely stole it from
  1819. 1:15:32somebody I
1820. 1:15:34um yeah I I you know my head will tell
1821. 1:15:38me that nothing is good is going to come
1822. 1:15:40and I'm you know and you can see I mean
1823. 1:15:42there's so many so many problems
1824. 1:15:47of you know as I pointed out in in in my
1825. 1:15:50in my book big agenda the left the
  1826. 1:15:53Democratic party uh it's a totalitarian
1827. 1:15:56party now it lied to get obam carian
1828. 1:15:59lied about you can keep your doctor lied
1829. 1:16:02about you can keep your plan and it and
1830. 1:16:04its mission was control it's an an
1831. 1:16:07incredible assault on individual Freedom
1832. 1:16:12the government tells you you have to
1833. 1:16:14have insurance the government tells you
1834. 1:16:16you have to have you you have what are
1835. 1:16:18they four packages this is the kind of
1836. 1:16:21insurance you have to have and the
1837. 1:16:23government gets all your health
  1838. 1:16:26information that is a totalitarian
1839. 1:16:29threat right there but Republicans
1840. 1:16:32they're lame why aren't they saying that
1841. 1:16:36so replacing Obamacare is obviously um
  1842. 1:16:40you know as as we're speaking
  1843. 1:16:41Republicans are all in
  1844. 1:16:43disarray
  1845. 1:16:45um I don't know I don't know what's
1846. 1:16:48going to happen um Trump is fairly
1847. 1:16:51isolated you have all these conservative
1848. 1:16:54idiots like Crystal um and MC Mullen
1849. 1:16:58gunning for him um Republicans marched
1850. 1:17:02to their tune of their own said it
  1851. 1:17:05drummers all the time they're
1852. 1:17:08individualists I was amazed when the Tea
1853. 1:17:10Party came in and and held a
1854. 1:17:12demonstration in Washington before that
  1855. 1:17:15you couldn't get three Republicans to
1856. 1:17:17March together because they look at each
1857. 1:17:19other and say what are we collectivists
1858. 1:17:21so so does that then I already said it
1859. 1:17:23was the last question but we'll keep
  1860. 1:17:24going for a little bit so there's that
1861. 1:17:25though so when the Tea Party organized
1862. 1:17:27and the Tea Party was gaining momentum
1863. 1:17:29everyone was saying there were these
1864. 1:17:31redneck backward gun nuts and in fact
1865. 1:17:33they were very decent people who cleaned
  1866. 1:17:35up after themselves left it's just
1867. 1:17:38destructive nobody was hurt there was no
1868. 1:17:41violence cops fascists when people start
1869. 1:17:44referring to the left as fascists and
  1870. 1:17:46not liberals then I'll say okay we're
  1871. 1:17:49winning now it's not right now it isn't
1872. 1:17:52happening they go on they like I say I
  1873. 1:17:55mean it's corrupted our culture it's
  1874. 1:17:57corrupted our
1875. 1:17:59schools uh it's just very very bad but I
1876. 1:18:03think you know I I my faith is in Steve
1877. 1:18:06Bannon and Steve Miller these are two
1878. 1:18:09fighters and Trump and Trump understands
1879. 1:18:13instinctively that when you get attacked
1880. 1:18:15you attack back and throw them off well
  1881. 1:18:18I I have this phrase that I I picked up
  1882. 1:18:21from Chris Lane who's a democratic was
1883. 1:18:24in the New York York Times an article
1884. 1:18:26about him uh a democratic strategist but
1885. 1:18:29he he stole it from Mike
1886. 1:18:32Tyson which is everybody has a game plan
1887. 1:18:35until you punch them in the
1888. 1:18:37mouth and the Democrats have a massive
1889. 1:18:40punch in the mouth for Republicans
  1890. 1:18:41calling them
1891. 1:18:42racists and uh Republicans have to come
1892. 1:18:46back and call Democrats the Democratic
1893. 1:18:49party is the party of racism it's the
  1894. 1:18:51party of racial categories it's the
  1895. 1:18:53party of identity politics it's the
1896. 1:18:56party of the inner cities it is a racist
1897. 1:18:59party it is also and I love this what
1898. 1:19:02what Trump said in the was in the second
1899. 1:19:05debate he turned to the cameras and said
1900. 1:19:08you have to understand Hillary has
  1901. 1:19:10tremendous hatred in her
1902. 1:19:13heart and what he was referring to was
1903. 1:19:15the basket of deplorables which she
1904. 1:19:17named she identified all of her
1905. 1:19:20opponents or whatever half the same
  1906. 1:19:23thing um
  1907. 1:19:25are racist sexists homophobes
1908. 1:19:27islamophobes xenophobes you name it and
  1909. 1:19:30he's raised them up there isn't a
  1910. 1:19:33conservative or a deviating liberal who
1911. 1:19:37hasn't been in an argument with a
  1912. 1:19:39so-called liberal who hasn't been called
  1913. 1:19:41a racist a sexist a homophobe so in a
1914. 1:19:43way that was a gift the Democratic party
1915. 1:19:45is a party of hate that's what they run
1916. 1:19:48on everything they're doing now is is
1917. 1:19:52hate invent conspiracy theories with the
  1918. 1:19:55Russians I mean this from a party whose
  1919. 1:19:58candidate turned over 20% of America's
  1920. 1:20:01uranium reserves to the
1921. 1:20:02Russians I mean how do you deal with
1922. 1:20:05that the only way in politics you have a
1923. 1:20:079sec sound bite just go for the
  1924. 1:20:11jugular well I hope but I don't want you
  1925. 1:20:13I I I like your style I want to see if
1926. 1:20:16we can convert people that way yeah well
  1927. 1:20:19I think interesting I think
1928. 1:20:21interestingly people are being converted
  1929. 1:20:23on both sides because I think what's
  1930. 1:20:24happening is I I know for sure that I've
  1931. 1:20:27helped a lot of progressives realize
1932. 1:20:29what true liberalism is and at the same
  1933. 1:20:31time I think I've had and I know that
1934. 1:20:33I've gotten a lot of more conservative
1935. 1:20:36people to realize that not all Liberals
1936. 1:20:38are bad and I think that's where most of
  1937. 1:20:40us actually are I know that that's good
1938. 1:20:42I don't want to take anything away from
  1939. 1:20:44you but I I found when I came into the
  1940. 1:20:46right I conservatives are generally very
  1941. 1:20:49decent people M and when I criticize the
  1942. 1:20:53um religious right leadership I had
1943. 1:20:56different reactions um from things like
1944. 1:20:58the family research Council I had people
  1945. 1:21:01in my
1946. 1:21:02face the blood vessels popping screaming
1947. 1:21:06at me MH um and I had people who were
1948. 1:21:09very supportive very Christian um in
1949. 1:21:12that way and I also had this experience
  1950. 1:21:15in the 2008 I was at the Moral
1951. 1:21:18Majority uh Ralph reeden invited me to
  1952. 1:21:20come down to
1953. 1:21:22Atlanta and uh the woman who who who who
1954. 1:21:26was my connection there and a Moral
  1955. 1:21:28Majority member I asked her I said well
1956. 1:21:31if John McCain gets a nomination will
1957. 1:21:33you vote for him and she said
1958. 1:21:35yeah so you know people what the what
1959. 1:21:38the religious right needs to understand
  1960. 1:21:40is that there's religion and then
1961. 1:21:41there's politics and religion is about
1962. 1:21:44saving your Immortal soul and if you
1963. 1:21:47mess with the devil you endanger it and
1964. 1:21:50in politics you make packs with the
  1965. 1:21:52devil all the
1966. 1:21:53time it's about getting into office and
1967. 1:21:56trying to practically change some things
1968. 1:21:59yeah and one thing that I wanted to talk
1969. 1:22:01yes to talk to you about that I just
  1970. 1:22:03remembered it's a home studio so we can
1971. 1:22:05keep going go ahead go ahead is this
1972. 1:22:09um why is the why is the left and now
  1973. 1:22:13so-called liberalism why are
  1974. 1:22:15progressives
1975. 1:22:17totalitarians and the answer is that
  1976. 1:22:21they it's it's a crypto
  1977. 1:22:25religious uh
  1978. 1:22:29ideology it's modeled on Christianity
1979. 1:22:32the world is a fallen Place although
1980. 1:22:33they never use that the world is an
  1981. 1:22:36oppressive place it's Injustice rules
  1982. 1:22:39but there will be a
1983. 1:22:41Redemption and we are the
1984. 1:22:43redeemers that's the danger we have to
1985. 1:22:46re and then you see it all the time we
1986. 1:22:48have to remake Humanity so it fits our
  1987. 1:22:51model of the
  1988. 1:22:52Redemption that's why there's so if only
1989. 1:22:55Bernie was in we have to Outlaw we have
1990. 1:22:57to Stamp Out racist sexist homophobes
1991. 1:23:01people who we disagree with yeah Milo we
  1992. 1:23:05can't let him
1993. 1:23:08speak time to what is more the only
1994. 1:23:11difference between that and an actual
1995. 1:23:13totalitarian state is if they had the
1996. 1:23:15power they would execute Milo he'd be in
1997. 1:23:18a gulag or he'd be dead yeah do you
  1998. 1:23:20remember there was a line a couple years
1999. 1:23:21ago that Oprah who and I basically like
2000. 1:23:23Oprah and back Oprah I'd be happy to
2001. 1:23:25have her on the show of course when she
2002. 1:23:27was talking about the you know this
2003. 1:23:28older generation and some of their
2004. 1:23:30backwards ways of thinking and she said
2005. 1:23:31well we just they just have to die I
2006. 1:23:33remember thinking like even if what
2007. 1:23:35you're saying some that yes there might
2008. 1:23:37be you know studies show that younger
2009. 1:23:39people are generally more liberal and on
2010. 1:23:41the social issu they not more liberal
2011. 1:23:43they're less older blacks are liberal
2012. 1:23:46that's why Oprah doesn't like them oh
2013. 1:23:48that all right so well that sort of fits
  2014. 1:23:50everything else that you're saying but
2015. 1:23:51but my point being that when she said it
2016. 1:23:53it sounds so nuts to me because one day
2017. 1:23:54if you just if you take that logic to
2018. 1:23:56its end guess what one day the young
2019. 1:23:59people are going to want all of you dead
2020. 1:24:01when you're old because it just will
2021. 1:24:03it'll just keep going can't try to make
2022. 1:24:05sense out of it but it is it's the
  2023. 1:24:07reever it's the actually the reverse
  2024. 1:24:10older blacks
2025. 1:24:13um are not as racist as younger blacks
2026. 1:24:16racism is pervasive now I mean this is a
2027. 1:24:20very Politically Incorrect to say but I
  2028. 1:24:23think it's pretty obvious racist uh
2029. 1:24:25pervas racism is pervasive in the black
2030. 1:24:28community and especially among younger
  2031. 1:24:30people who've been to schools and
2032. 1:24:32told that their all their problems come
  2033. 1:24:35from White
  2034. 1:24:36races very bad you
2035. 1:24:40know the 50s were much better times in
  2036. 1:24:43this country so I think I only got a
2037. 1:24:45half answer then before you said my head
2038. 1:24:47doesn't have a lot of Hope something to
2039. 1:24:49that effect about the future but what
  2040. 1:24:51about your my head well I'm I I'm an
  2041. 1:24:54optim missed by jeans I don't know how I
  2042. 1:24:56am I just am I you know I I phrased it
  2043. 1:25:01in a book I wrote you know I when my my
2044. 1:25:04head is in conflict with my heart I
  2045. 1:25:06follow my heart so I'm I'm going to
  2046. 1:25:08fight till I
  2047. 1:25:10drop as though there's a going to be a
2048. 1:25:13positive outcome but uh you know there's
2049. 1:25:17um what was his name skipio
  2050. 1:25:20Africanus was a Roman
  2051. 1:25:22general who burned
2052. 1:25:24Carthage and when he saw Carthage Going
  2053. 1:25:28Up in Smoke he
  2054. 1:25:30wept because
2055. 1:25:33the classical view was that all it's all
2056. 1:25:36cyclical Empires rise and fall societies
2057. 1:25:39rise and fall and this idea of progress
2058. 1:25:43is one of the really bad ideas that the
2059. 1:25:46Jews gave to us the idea of there's a
2060. 1:25:49Promised Land although maybe Moses
2061. 1:25:52didn't mean it in a way that left this
2062. 1:25:54mean it but that idea of a
  2063. 1:25:56progress is the
  2064. 1:25:59problem can't redeem the world can't be
  2065. 1:26:02fixed why can't the world be
2066. 1:26:04fixed because the root source of all
  2067. 1:26:07social problems is US
2068. 1:26:10individuals so you can maybe it you know
2069. 1:26:14it's it's very hard to take one
2070. 1:26:16individual who's gone off the de end and
2071. 1:26:19bring them back yeah but you know modest
2072. 1:26:23it's you know this is the oldest thing I
2073. 1:26:25was a volte 10 your own garden you can
2074. 1:26:28make the space around you maybe a little
2075. 1:26:31bit more Humane you can help an
  2076. 1:26:33individual but you can't change the
2077. 1:26:37world well on that note I sense we could
2078. 1:26:39do a lot more so we'll have to do this
  2079. 1:26:41again okay we'll see may you know we'll
2080. 1:26:43do this how about we do this one year
  2081. 1:26:44from now and we'll see if I've
  2082. 1:26:46Incorporated some of your T Optimist I'm
  2083. 1:26:49an optimist I'll be around next I I
2084. 1:26:52can't help it I'm old enough to know
2085. 1:26:54that that that will be you know a
  2086. 1:26:56blessing you're you're 78 years old how
2087. 1:26:59do you look so good uh your makeup
2088. 1:27:02that's all the makeup no I saw you when
2089. 1:27:03you walked in come on what's the trick
  2090. 1:27:05uh I don't know I I have a great
2091. 1:27:08marriage wonderful wife um I tried to
2092. 1:27:13balance the political with the you know
2093. 1:27:16real real life stuff my animals I all
  2094. 1:27:20these dogs I
  2095. 1:27:22love um yeah I don't know and it's also

2097. 1:27:27jeans all right one year from now we
