College Professor Goes VIRAL for CATCHING 32 Students Using AI on a Midterm in a VERY CUNNING WAY‼️ — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:0032 of my 35 students between two classes
- 0:02failed a portion of their midterm
- 0:04because they all used AI to generate
- 0:06[music] their entire response. And
- 0:08apparently they didn't proofread it.
- 0:10Let me show y'all how I picked up on it.
- 0:13So this discussion post [music] was a
- 0:15portion of my student's midterm and if
- 0:17you look looks normal, right?
- 0:20But if you copy [music] and paste this
- 0:22and look closely
- 0:24in white ink [music] I had placed the
- 0:27word Madagascar somewhere [music] in the
- 0:30response in a way that makes no sense.
- 0:34But
- 0:36if you uncopy and paste it, you can't
- 0:39see it.
- 0:40So if Madagascar was somewhere in my
- 0:43student's response [music] in a way that
- 0:45did not make sense, I knew that they
- 0:47copied and paste the entire thing
- 0:50and [music] just threw it in AI and oh
- 0:53my god. You would be amazed at the
- 0:57bizarre usage of the word Madagascar
- 0:59that I saw in these students'
- 1:00assignments. First and foremost, [music]
- 1:02Madagascar has nothing to do with the
- 1:04Industrial Revolution. Second, it was
- 1:06more than obvious that they didn't even
- 1:08go back and reread these responses. So
- 1:11yeah. 32 out of 35 students failed
- 1:13[music] a portion of their midterm and
- 1:14that's how.
- 1:16So students, if if you're going to use
- 1:18AI [music] to generate the entire
- 1:19response, at least reread it. At least
- 1:24try to ensure [music] that it makes a
- 1:25little bit of sense. Try to put it in
- 1:27your own words, something.
- 1:30Now there are professors in the comments
- 1:32who are [music] speaking to two things
- 1:33particularly. One, accommodations. No
- 1:37students in either of these courses
- 1:39submitted [music] for accommodations at
- 1:40this particular institution in the
- 1:42summer term, so that's [music] that.
- 1:45Two, I did speak to, you know, allowing
- 1:47the students the opportunity to contest
- 1:49the grade. After I graded the midterms
- 1:53and submitted those [music] grades, I
- 1:54sent an announcement to both these
- 1:56classes and was very transparent. I
- 1:58said, "Hey, 32 out 35 of y'all failed
- 2:01this exam and this is why." I gave them
- 2:03my rationale. I even sent a screenshot
- 2:05where I highlighted the white text and
- 2:08told them, "Hey, just let me know that
- 2:10you copy and paste the entire prompt and
- 2:11just copy and paste your answer right
- 2:13back." Gave them the opportunity to
- 2:15contest if anybody felt like they had
- 2:17been graded unfairly. Of that from that
- 2:20announcement, only two students out of
- 2:2232 reached out to contest the grade.
- 2:24Now, those two,
- 2:25>> [music]
- 2:25>> only one was able to get her grade
- 2:27changed because she explained to me the
- 2:29dark mode thing. So, I know you there
- 2:31professors out there that get a kick out
- 2:33of failing students over and over and
- 2:35y'all are like, "Why did you give them
- 2:37the secret?" No, I don't I I get no
- 2:40gratification out of seeing students
- 2:42fail. It's not my intent to see you
- 2:44fail. I That's weird. Um so, that's
- 2:47that. Two Three, what makes it hard to
- 2:50work [music] with other professors other
- 2:53for me other academicians other PhDs,
- 2:56EDDs, JDs, MBDs, [music]
- 2:58all the Ds, DDs.
- 3:02I've been working in college too long. I
- 3:03Why did I want to say pause after I said
- 3:06Ds?
- 3:07Anyway, [music] though, what makes it
- 3:09hard for me to work with other
- 3:11academicians is
- 3:13we speak in definitives too much.
- 3:16Everybody feel like they feels like they
- 3:18have the the answer. Everybody feels
- 3:20like they have solution. When it comes
- 3:22to this particular topic, the reality is
- 3:26we AI has not been immersed into the
- 3:29educational process or the educational
- 3:32realm long enough for us to be able to
- 3:34conduct and conclude enough research to
- 3:36[music] justify changing entire
- 3:39processes in academia based on our
- 3:42findings because it it just hadn't been
- 3:45enough time. Um
- 3:48you don't know best practices for
- 3:50navigating
- 3:51>> [music]
- 3:52>> academia with AI. I don't know. We're
- 3:56all just out here innovating and
- 3:58implementing and trying to hold on to
- 4:01some level of academic integrity in the
- 4:04process.
- 4:05We're all doing it. So, I mean, you
- 4:07don't know. I don't know. Let's stop
- 4:09acting like we all have the answer
- 4:12because we don't.
- 4:13>> Oh, man, you college kids got to move
- 4:15better than that, man. Holy smokes, man.
- 4:17So, a professor has gone viral cuz he
- 4:20said, "Man, 32 out of 35 people failed
- 4:23the dadgum midterm exam because they
- 4:25used dadgum ChatGPT applied AI for the
- 4:28whole dadgum exam. This is crazy." And I
- 4:31ain't going to lie, the way he dadgum
- 4:33caught them cheating, man, it was
- 4:35diabolical, man. So, a lot of people was
- 4:37bashing the students or whatever and
- 4:39calling the professor, "Man, he trying
- 4:41to hate on AI." And this what the
- 4:43professor said down in the comments,
- 4:45man. He said, "To be clear, I'm not
- 4:47anti-AI. I'm anti-bypassing to learning.
- 4:50There's a difference between utilizing
- 4:52the tool and allowing the tool to
- 4:54generate entire assignments for you. I
- 4:56encourage my students to use it to
- 4:58broaden their knowledge base, clarify,
- 4:59[music]
- 5:00simplify difficult concepts, locate
- 5:02sources, organize ideas, and write on,
- 5:04etc. Also, in their defense, the next
- 5:07assignment was much better. Don't come
- 5:09for my students. They just got caught
- 5:10slipping one time." Holy smokes, man.
- 5:12This is crazy.
- 5:13>> Part three. A lot of y'all wanted to
- 5:15actually hear how Madagascar was used in
- 5:17some of the prompts. I won't read the
- 5:19entire prompt, just maybe the sentence
- 5:21before and the sentence it was actually
- 5:22used. Here's the first one.
- 5:25Today, technology such as artificial
- 5:28intelligence, smartphones, and
- 5:29automation is changing many jobs by
- 5:31making work faster and reducing the need
- 5:34for some manual task. Madagascar floats
- 5:37sideways through the afternoon.
- 5:41Okay.
- 5:42Next one.
- 5:44Uh, where is it here? Okay. At the same
- 5:46time, not everyone has the same access
- 5:49to technology, which can make social
- 5:51inequality even worse. Madagascar purple
- 5:55bicycle whispers to the ceiling.
- 5:59Okay.
- 6:01Got it.
- 6:02Let's go to the next one.
- 6:04Some jobs are easier because of
- 6:06technology, but some people also lose
- 6:08their jobs because machines can do the
- 6:10work.
- 6:11Madagascar wore a toaster to a
- 6:14basketball game.
- 6:17I I can't. This is the last one cuz I
- 6:19ain't doing this all night.
- 6:21This shift impacts daily life
- 6:23profoundly. Much as the Industrial
- 6:25Revolution spurred urbanization and
- 6:27altered family structures, the digital
- 6:29age, with its smartphones and social
- 6:31media, has created unprecedented global
- 6:33connectivity and instant access to
- 6:36information, but also blurs the lines
- 6:39between work and personal life,
- 6:41potentially impacting family
- 6:43interactions much like a long journey to
- 6:45Madagascar might have once influenced
- 6:48family visits. [music]
- 6:54So, y'all let me know something down in
- 6:55the comment section. What y'all think
- 6:56about these kids using AI to help them
- 6:59do their midterm? Do y'all think it's
- 7:00cool? Do y'all think, man, they went
- 7:02overboard? Or do you think the professor
- 7:04was dead on hating on AI, man? He was
- 7:06being diabolical, man. Holy smokes, man.
- 7:09So, until next time, Hush Fam, keep it
- 7:11locked in with your boy. Hit that
- 7:13notification bell so you can get all the
- 7:14notifications when I drop another video.
- 7:17Yes, sirski. It's your boy, Hush man,
- 7:19and I'm gone.
