  2. 0:07Barnes he was wrongfully convicted for
  3. 0:0920 years and was let out 5 months ago
  4. 0:12would you like to tell us a little bit
  5. 0:13about your life today my life today well
  6. 0:17I'm I'm adjusting to society and um I'm
  7. 0:21doing well well I got a job at uh the
  8. 0:24county I work with uh use and uh uh
  9. 0:27re-entry program for night of County for
  10. 0:29people that get out on
  11. 0:30parole I go around and speak for
  12. 0:33innocent project I go to a lot of
  13. 0:34colleges and speak about wron
  14. 0:37convictions I'm here with Daryl hunt
  15. 0:39today he was wrongfully convicted for 19
  16. 0:41years and has been out and act very
  17. 0:44active for innocent victims he they just
  18. 0:47played a documentary at Colgate
  19. 0:48yesterday about his life would you like
  20. 0:50to tell us a little bit about what was
  21. 0:51in that documentary well the documentary
  22. 0:54actually documents my trial my whole 19
  23. 1:00year experience through the criminal
  24. 1:01justice system from the beginning of
  25. 1:04from my arrest to my exoneration you
  26. 1:08spoke about your faith how that helped
  27. 1:10sustain you through your um through your
  28. 1:13sentence do you feel that your faith is
  29. 1:15stronger now than it was before the
  30. 1:18unfortunate event happened to you um yes
  31. 1:22it's it is stronger now uh but my faith
  32. 1:26was the only thing that kept me going um
  33. 1:29through through out the 19 years and
  34. 1:32even today is is still the driving force
  35. 1:36behind what we do as um as a project as
  36. 1:40an individual and trying to help others
  37. 1:44would you like to say anything to
  38. 1:46families such as the man and woman who
  39. 1:48are here today that are uh who have sons
  40. 1:51or daughters that are wrongfully
  41. 1:52convicted and how they might keep the
  42. 1:54faith yes one of the things is never
  43. 1:57give up uh always continue to fight
  44. 2:01because um you never know when the light
  45. 2:05is going to happen so because the one
  46. 2:09thing that that
  47. 2:11helps um exonorees while they're in is
  48. 2:15knowing that someone there is always out
  49. 2:18there keeping your name out there and
  50. 2:21keeping the word out and so that helps
  51. 2:23uh is there anything that you'd like to
  52. 2:25tell maybe people coming out of prison
  53. 2:28and um maybe still trying to find their
  54. 2:30way is there some advice that you had to
  55. 2:32learn the hard way that you would tell
  56. 2:34them well you have to understand that um
  57. 2:38and I was telling this young lady this
  58. 2:40while ago that you you have three names
  59. 2:44you uh have in life the name you are
  60. 2:47given by your parents the name you
  61. 2:50inherit from your parents and the name
  62. 2:52you make for yourself so uh other people
  63. 2:56have been real busy about making your
  64. 2:58name up to this point but understand
  65. 3:01that you have to uh take things
  66. 3:04slow um really pay attention to your
  67. 3:08surroundings and stand up for other
  68. 3:10people and enjoy your life
