Clove Shock This Is What Cloves REALLY Do To Your Blood Sugar — Transcript

- 0:00The next time you drop a clove into your
- 0:01tea, or bite down on that little dark
- 0:04bud hiding in your rice, pay attention
- 0:07because that tiny spice can start
- 0:09working on your blood sugar within the
- 0:10same meal. Not over weeks, not someday,
- 0:14during the plate in front of you. Most
- 0:16people eat cloves their whole lives in
- 0:18chai, in biryani, in the holiday drink
- 0:21nobody finishes, and have no idea what
- 0:23those compounds are doing once they hit
- 0:25the body. It's one of the oldest spices
- 0:27on Earth and one of the most
- 0:29underestimated. You treat it like
- 0:31flavor, like background noise you'd pick
- 0:34out and set on the side of the plate,
- 0:36and that's exactly the problem. We've
- 0:38been trained to believe the powerful
- 0:39stuff has to come in a bottle, a blood
- 0:42sugar supplement with a long ingredient
- 0:44list and a price tag to match.
- 0:46Meanwhile, one of the most studied plant
- 0:48compounds for glucose is sitting in a
- 0:50jar in your kitchen, costing you almost
- 0:52nothing, completely ignored. Here's what
- 0:55almost nobody tells you. Inside that
- 0:57clove is a compound called eugenol, the
- 1:00thing behind that sharp, almost numbing
- 1:02bite, plus a group of plant compounds
- 1:05called polyphenols. And these don't just
- 1:07sit there. Researchers have put them up
- 1:09against the exact enzymes your body uses
- 1:12to turn food into blood sugar. So, the
- 1:14question becomes, what could that
- 1:16possibly do to the sugar from your meal?
- 1:19To see it, you have to follow what
- 1:20happens after you swallow. Picture your
- 1:23last starchy plate. White rice, bread,
- 1:26potatoes. That starch can't enter your
- 1:28blood as it is. It's a long chain, and
- 1:31the glucose locked inside has to be cut
- 1:33loose first. Your body does that with
- 1:35enzymes. Two of them, alpha amylase and
- 1:38alpha glucosidase, are the cutting crew,
- 1:40snipping that chain into pieces small
- 1:42enough to flood into your bloodstream.
- 1:44The faster that crew works, the faster
- 1:46the sugar hits. That fast hit is the
- 1:49spike, the one behind the heavy foggy
- 1:51crash you feel an hour after a big plate
- 1:53of rice. Now, here's what clove does. In
- 1:56the lab, its polyphenols and eugenols
- 1:59slow that cutting crew down. Fewer
- 2:01scissors moving means the chain gets cut
- 2:03slower, which means glucose trickles in
- 2:05instead of flooding. A calmer curve
- 2:08instead of a spike. Like a pinched
- 2:10garden hose easing open, flowing steady
- 2:12instead of blasting. But slowing the
- 2:14sugar coming in is only half the story.
- 2:17Because once glucose is in your blood,
- 2:19something still has to deal with it. And
- 2:22that's only the front door. So where
- 2:24does all that glucose actually go? One
- 2:26of the biggest destinations is your
- 2:28muscle, pulling sugar out of circulation
- 2:30to burn or store. In lab studies, clove
- 2:33compounds nudged muscle cells to take in
- 2:35more glucose. So clove isn't just
- 2:38tapping the brakes on the way in, it's
- 2:40leaning on the system that clears sugar
- 2:42out. Two doors. You'd think that covers
- 2:45it. Then there's the part almost nobody
- 2:47sees coming. Your blood sugar isn't only
- 2:49about the food you just ate.
- 2:51Your own liver quietly makes glucose and
- 2:54pushes it into your blood. Overnight,
- 2:56between meals, whenever it thinks you're
- 2:58running low. For a lot of people, that
- 3:01internal tap runs a little too freely,
- 3:03which is why blood sugar can sit high
- 3:05even when you haven't eaten a thing. And
- 3:07in the same research, clove extract
- 3:10turned that tap down, telling liver
- 3:12cells to make less. Digestion, muscle
- 3:15uptake, liver output. Three different
- 3:18doors and clove has a hand on all three.
- 3:21Which sounds almost too good. So there's
- 3:24really only one question left worth
- 3:26asking. If this is catching you off
- 3:28guard, the way it caught me the first
- 3:30time I read it, take 1 second, hit like
- 3:33and subscribe. It's the easiest way to
- 3:35tell the algorithm that people actually
- 3:37want to know what's happening inside
- 3:39their own bodies, not just be told to
- 3:42eat healthy and never told why. Because
- 3:44there's one detail buried in almost
- 3:46every clove study that completely
- 3:48changes how you should use this. But
- 3:51we'll get to that. First, the question
- 3:53you're already asking, did any of this
- 3:55happen in real people or is it all
- 3:57dishes and cells? It did.
- 4:00In one study, 13 volunteers took a
- 4:02concentrated polyphenol-rich clove
- 4:04preparation, 250 mg a day for 30 days,
- 4:09and the numbers moved. Their 2-hour
- 4:11after-meal glucose came down within
- 4:13about 12 days and stayed down.
- 4:15In the group that started higher, even
- 4:17their fasting sugar drifted lower over
- 4:19time. Real people, real drop from a
- 4:22spice most of us treat as decoration.
- 4:25So, cloves really do this. Case closed,
- 4:27right? Now, hold on, because this is
- 4:30where almost everyone online gets it
- 4:32wrong, and it's the whole point. That
- 4:34study didn't use the whole cloves in
- 4:36your masala box. It didn't use clove
- 4:38tea. It used a specific concentrated
- 4:41preparation, standardized, measured,
- 4:44dosed. And clove is not one thing. Whole
- 4:47dried cloves, ground powder, a
- 4:49concentrated capsule, and clove
- 4:51essential oil are four completely
- 4:53different strengths. They are not
- 4:55interchangeable. So, when someone reads
- 4:58clove lowered blood sugar and pictures
- 5:00their evening cup of clove tea doing the
- 5:02exact same thing at the exact same
- 5:04strength, that's the leap that snaps.
- 5:06The tea and the extract share a name,
- 5:09not a dose. Which suddenly makes the
- 5:11real question not does clove work, but
- 5:13which clove and how much? So, what do
- 5:16you actually do with that? First, treat
- 5:19cloves as real food on the plate, not a
- 5:21garnish you pick off. Drop them into the
- 5:23rice, the chai, the lentils, the
- 5:26marinade, and actually eat them. The
- 5:29compounds that do this work live in the
- 5:31clove itself. Letting it flavor the pot
- 5:33and then fishing it out defeats the
- 5:35point. Second, put them where they
- 5:37matter most, next to your heaviest
- 5:39meals. Their strength is smoothing the
- 5:41curve, so a little clove alongside the
- 5:43white rice, the naan, the sweet stuff is
- 5:47where it earns its place. Not a magic
- 5:49bullet, a teammate on the plate. Third,
- 5:52respect the concentration. This is the
- 5:54hard line. Concentrated clove essential
- 5:56oil is a completely different beast from
- 5:58the spice. Eugenol can be genuinely
- 6:01toxic in high amounts. So, interesting
- 6:03chemistry is not an invitation to
- 6:05swallow the oil. More concentrated does
- 6:08not mean more benefit. It can just mean
- 6:10more harm. And if you're on blood sugar
- 6:12medication, clove is something you add
- 6:14to your food, not something you swap
- 6:16your prescription for. That's a
- 6:18conversation with your doctor, not a
- 6:20video. Here's what actually changes now.
- 6:23An hour ago, that clove was background
- 6:25flavor, something you'd pick out of the
- 6:27rice and leave on the side. Now, you
- 6:29can't look at it the same way. You know
- 6:31that little bud has been tested against
- 6:33the machinery deciding how fast your
- 6:35sugar rises and how far it falls. You
- 6:38know why it belongs next to your
- 6:39heaviest meals, and you know the one
- 6:41thing the headlines never mention, that
- 6:43the clove in your jar and the clove in a
- 6:46study aren't the same strength, which
- 6:48puts you ahead of almost everyone
- 6:50scrolling past cloves lower blood sugar
- 6:52today. That shift sounds small. It
- 6:55isn't. It changes what you reach for,
- 6:57how you cook it, and how you read every
- 6:59food claim thrown at you from here on.
- 7:02So, the next time you're at the stove,
- 7:03clove jar in hand, ask the question
- 7:06almost nobody does. Not just does this
- 7:08taste good, but what is this actually
- 7:10doing to me once I swallow it? Tell me
- 7:13below, how do you use cloves? Whole in
- 7:16your tea, ground into your food, or do
- 7:18you take a clove supplement? I'm
- 7:20genuinely curious which one you reach
- 7:22for because cloves aren't the only thing
- 7:24in your kitchen hiding a secret. There's
- 7:27another everyday spice on your shelf
- 7:28right now doing something to your body
- 7:31you've never been told about, and we're
- 7:33about to expose exactly what it is.
