Chris Watts | New Testimony Reveals 2nd Secret App | Deep Dive Series — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00Chris Watts was sentenced to life in
- 0:02prison without the possibility of parole
- 0:04for the quadruple homicide of his entire
- 0:07family nearly seven years ago. In the
- 0:10years since, the Weld County District
- 0:12Attorney has continued to receive new
- 0:15and credible information concerning
- 0:17Nicole Kessinger's possible involvement.
- 0:20However, despite the ongoing barrage of
- 0:23requests for a full and complete
- 0:25investigation, he has refused them all.
- 0:28When I say the word prosecutor, what
- 0:31phrase immediately comes to mind? Tough
- 0:34on crime, aggressive,
- 0:37overbearing and rigid in appearance. You
- 0:39ask my wife and she might jump right to
- 0:41arrogant.
- 0:43I'll admit that these stereotypes aren't
- 0:45too far off base. Rigid and arrogant
- 0:48doesn't even begin to cover it. But for
- 0:50the first time in over half a decade,
- 0:53entirely new evidence has been
- 0:55discovered that has the potential to
- 0:58break this case wide open. Information
- 1:01never previously known or disclosed by
- 1:04law enforcement since the arrest of
- 1:07Chris Watts. On the 6th of November
- 1:102018, Chris Watts formally accepted the
- 1:13prosecution's plea deal, agreeing to a
- 1:15conviction of five life sentences. This
- 1:18deal approved by DA Ror himself was
- 1:22finalized just 86 days after the crimes
- 1:25Watts committed on August 13th, 2018.
- 1:29But every single day since Watt's
- 1:32conviction, the true crime community has
- 1:35continued to find glaring mistakes,
- 1:38omissions, and failures that exposes the
- 1:41improper and incomplete investigation
- 1:44conducted by the Weld County District
- 1:46Attorney, Michael Roor. In today's
- 1:49episode, we will continue with our
- 1:51detailed deep dive analysis of the Chris
- 1:53Watts case, analyzing Watt's first
- 1:56interview and contrasting this new
- 1:58information with shocking details that
- 2:01Watts revealed just 24 hours after he
- 2:04committed his crimes, providing an
- 2:06examination of the discovery records
- 2:09while shedding light on what that
- 2:11evidence actually reveals, helping us
- 2:14all to finally answer the question,
- 2:17could law enforcement ment have fully
- 2:19and completely investigated this
- 2:22quadruple homicide in just 86 days. This
- 2:26is in search of the truth, the Chris
- 2:28Watts deep dive series, the third
- 2:30installment.
- 2:36In the last two episodes of this deep
- 2:38dive series, we have traversed the rocky
- 2:41landscape of the Watts case surrounding
- 2:43the days and weeks preceding this
- 2:45painful tragedy. We were given a deeply
- 2:49disturbing view of the heartbreak that
- 2:51Shannan was forced to endure at the
- 2:53hands of a man who was seemingly devoid
- 2:56of empathy or concern. Since beginning
- 3:00my analysis of this case, I have
- 3:02continued to receive countless messages
- 3:05from current and former members of law
- 3:07enforcement who all agree that these
- 3:10investigators could not have thoroughly
- 3:13evaluated the facts of this case in less
- 3:15than 3 months time. But for the first
- 3:18time since the onset of this case, I
- 3:21will be able to definitively demonstrate
- 3:23for you just how inadequate this
- 3:26investigation was. But please remember,
- 3:29Chris Watts will always bear sole
- 3:32responsibility for his own actions. Our
- 3:36analysis will always be about the
- 3:39pursuit of justice. So, as we evaluate
- 3:42the facts, we will remember the one and
- 3:44only reason why we continue to advocate
- 3:47for that justice, the victims. So, with
- 3:51that said, let's begin. Just after 2:00
- 3:54a.m. on the morning of August 14th,
- 3:57Chris and Nicole have just finished
- 3:59their nearly 3-hour long phone call. The
- 4:02same call that Nicole Kessinger will
- 4:05later claim that she barely recalled
- 4:07what they discussed or talked about.
- 4:09According to the discovery records, at
- 4:112:17 a.m. the two would say their final
- 4:14goodbyes, but not before Nicole would
- 4:17eavesdrop on a phone call with law
- 4:19enforcement where Chris was being asked
- 4:21very specific questions about his
- 4:24missing family. And earlier that same
- 4:27morning, Nicole Kessinger made sure to
- 4:29get on to Google and search for the name
- 4:32Shannan Watts. Over the years, we've
- 4:34learned that law enforcement never
- 4:36bothered to ask Nicole why she would be
- 4:39searching for Shannan at that specific
- 4:42point in time. Especially in light of
- 4:44the fact that Kessinger would go on to
- 4:46claim that she truly believed that
- 4:49Shannan was okay and simply at a
- 4:52friend's house. Monday afternoon, he
- 4:55told me that
- 4:57she was like gone and he didn't know
- 4:59where she was. And at that point, I
- 5:04don't think that it set off any alarms
- 5:07in my head just because
- 5:11I mean I I have friends that I text and
- 5:15if I don't hear from them for like 3
- 5:17hours or 6 hours or even like a couple
- 5:19days, I don't feel
- 5:22concerned about where they're at because
- 5:24it's kind of a standard thing for me. Um
- 5:28but then she didn't come home that
- 5:29night. I was like, "Okay, well, maybe
- 5:31she'll come back." And I was kind of on
- 5:34the impression since they're separating
- 5:35that maybe she decided to take the kids.
- 5:38Maybe she decided to just
- 5:42leave for a few days. I don't know. I
- 5:44was just I I I felt like maybe she was
- 5:46just trying to get some space. And I
- 5:48figured maybe that was why she left her
- 5:50stuff there to just get some quiet. If
- 5:53Nicole believed that Shannan was
- 5:55unharmed, then why would she be looking
- 5:58for her on Google? By 4:58 that morning,
- 6:02Sandy Ruseek, the mother of Shannan,
- 6:05called Chris and spoke to him for just
- 6:07over 4 minutes. The two would speak
- 6:09later that same morning at 6:32, and
- 6:12Chris would continue to perpetuate the
- 6:15claim that he did not know where her
- 6:17daughter and his children were, feigning
- 6:20innocence over the monstrosity of what
- 6:23he was still desperately trying to hide.
- 6:26An hour later, at 7:26 a.m., Chris
- 6:29messaged Shannan's friend Sam,
- 6:31continuing the lie that Shannan and the
- 6:33girls were likely safe. He told her,
- 6:36"I'm hoping she's with someone I don't
- 6:38know because I have exhausted all of the
- 6:41people that I know of. I'm optimistic we
- 6:44will reunite again. People have been
- 6:46stopping by from time to time." 2 hours
- 6:49later and Chris Watts transfers one
- 6:51final nude image of his paramore Nicole
- 6:54Kessinger into his secret calculator
- 6:57app. At 12:08 p.m., Nicole Kessinger
- 7:00spends four entire hours searching the
- 7:04internet, news sites, and articles, all
- 7:06concerning Shannan and the girl's
- 7:08disappearance. Detective Prill is
- 7:11careful to note that these searches that
- 7:13nearly took her entire workday were all
- 7:16deleted, and he notates this observation
- 7:19in red. It's my experience that when law
- 7:22enforcement wants to highlight an area
- 7:24of concern, this is exactly how they do
- 7:27it. But just minutes after Nicole had
- 7:30begun her relentless searches for news
- 7:32on Shannan and the girl's disappearance,
- 7:35Chris was communicating with friends and
- 7:37family again at 12:31 p.m. He was
- 7:40continuing to poorly fake the part of an
- 7:43aloof father trying to find his missing
- 7:45family.
- 7:47Shannan, Bella, Celeste, if you're out
- 7:50there, just just come back. Like, if
- 7:53somebody has her, just please bring her
- 7:55back. I need to see everybody. I need to
- 7:58see everybody again. This house is not
- 7:59complete with without anybody here.
- 8:02Please bring her back.
- 8:05I will simply never understand how or
- 8:08why Chris Watts thought that this
- 8:10interview would convince anyone of
- 8:13anything other than his complete and
- 8:16undeniable guilt. At 1:36 p.m., Chris
- 8:20again texts Shannan's friend Sam. Sam
- 8:22had inquired about the possibility of
- 8:25issuing an Amber Alert for the girls.
- 8:27She was very clearly trying to do
- 8:30whatever she could to find them. And yet
- 8:33Chris could only respond by telling her
- 8:35that an Amber Alert was not applicable
- 8:38in this situation, choosing instead to
- 8:40quickly change the subject while
- 8:42informing Sam that law enforcement had
- 8:45just swept his house with cadaavver
- 8:47dogs. Ending their dialogue by informing
- 8:50Sam that he had completed all of his
- 8:52interviews with law enforcement in what
- 8:54appeared to be an attempt at trying to
- 8:56insinuate that he was not responsible.
- 9:00Chris again called Shannan's mother,
- 9:01Sandy, at 2:30 p.m. and spoke with her
- 9:04for just over 10 minutes. We would later
- 9:07learn that the roose checks were already
- 9:09convinced that Chris was likely involved
- 9:12in the disappearance of Shannan and the
- 9:14girls. And I can only imagine that Chris
- 9:17and his shocking lack of empathy was
- 9:20evident in every word he spoke to
- 9:22everyone he encountered throughout the
- 9:25course of that day. 4 minutes after 3,
- 9:28Chris again communicates with Addie. He
- 9:30informs her that Good Morning America
- 9:32has contacted his sister for an
- 9:34interview. And if I didn't know better,
- 9:37it would seem that Chris is continuing
- 9:39to look for ways to elicit sympathy from
- 9:42his friends and family. But just miles
- 9:45away, at exactly 5:00 p.m., Nicole
- 9:48Kessinger begins a series of seemingly
- 9:50incriminating Google searches that would
- 9:53later be identified by Detective Prill's
- 9:56data report. And by the end of this
- 9:58video, you will understand why this new
- 10:01information directly answers the
- 10:04question that Detective Prill asked
- 10:06nearly 7 years ago. One hour later, at
- 10:096:00 p.m., Chris's phone notified him of
- 10:12a calendar entry that he labeled as
- 10:15talk. In the days following, law
- 10:17enforcement would determine that Chris
- 10:19had attempted to create a trail of
- 10:21breadcrumbs that he hoped would lead
- 10:23investigators to the false conclusion
- 10:25that Shannan and the girls had simply
- 10:28disappeared. Chris Watts wrongly hoped
- 10:30that they would come to the conclusion
- 10:33that he was nothing more than a loving
- 10:35father trying to locate his family. Just
- 10:3826 minutes later and Chris text his
- 10:40close friend Nick theer letting him know
- 10:43that he would be on his way to his house
- 10:45after he stopped for gas. But while on
- 10:48route to spend the night at the Theer
- 10:50residence, Watts received a call from
- 10:52the Frederick Police Department.
- 10:54Detective Coder was requesting that
- 10:56Chris come into the office and answer
- 10:58some questions concerning this highly
- 11:01suspicious disappearance of his entire
- 11:03family. Watts would turn around and make
- 11:06his way to the police department in what
- 11:08would become the beginning of the end of
- 11:11his paperthin story. It's here that
- 11:14Chris would begin his first inoff
- 11:17interview with law enforcement. But this
- 11:20is also my very first time reviewing
- 11:22this footage. And when we conclude our
- 11:25analysis of all the lies that Chris told
- 11:27that day, you will learn something that
- 11:30no one in law enforcement has ever
- 11:32disclosed about this case. Information
- 11:35that is now central to my formal request
- 11:38to the Weld County District Attorney's
- 11:40Office that they finally reopen this
- 11:44investigation and determine the extent
- 11:46of what Chris and Nicole were hiding
- 11:49because it's time that we find out the
- 11:52truth. once and for all.
- 11:58By the time that Chris Watts arrived at
- 12:00the Frederick Police Department that
- 12:02evening, law enforcement was already
- 12:04firmly aware that he was their likely
- 12:06primary suspect in the then
- 12:09disappearance of his wife and children.
- 12:11Anna Darko's human resource department
- 12:13had already informed law enforcement
- 12:15that Watts was communicating regularly
- 12:18with fellow employee Nicole Kessinger.
- 12:21Additionally, they had already obtained
- 12:24detailed phone records and knew that
- 12:26Chris and Nicole were far more than mere
- 12:29co-workers. Detective Graham Coder was
- 12:32tasked with the job of trying to
- 12:34ascertain what Chris had done with his
- 12:37family, but doing so without causing
- 12:39Chris to completely shut down. But one
- 12:42thing is certain, no one could have
- 12:45imagined just how dark this case was
- 12:48about to become. All right, let's do
- 12:51this.
- 12:53I'm going to sit next to you so we can
- 12:54look at it together. Um,
- 12:58so what I want to do is you have a bunch
- 13:01of people coming in, you know, from your
- 13:03neighborhood. Somebody saw something.
- 13:05Somebody knows where these kids are. And
- 13:07I keep saying kids, I'm sorry. Kids,
- 13:10and I should say, um, I work these quite
- 13:15a bit. And so tonight, if I make one of
- 13:17those mistakes when I say kids instead
- 13:19of your wife and kids, I apologize that
- 13:22we work at a lot. I apologize if
- 13:23something comes out wrong or um Anyway,
- 13:27so I know you're going through a lot, so
- 13:30we're not going to keep you here all
- 13:31night. Can we go through this? From the
- 13:34moment Detective Coder walks through the
- 13:36door, he is demonstrating the behavior
- 13:39of an investigator who understands the
- 13:42gravity of this moment. He employs the
- 13:45well-known tactic of closing the gap
- 13:47between him and Chris, which
- 13:49subconsciously helps to remove his
- 13:52internal defenses. And in so doing, he
- 13:55ensures that Chris never succeeds in
- 13:58closing off and walking out of that
- 14:00interview room. It's a tactic that will
- 14:03slowly force Chris to do the one thing
- 14:06that he hates to do the most, telling
- 14:09the truth. So, okay, let's see. 48
- 14:13doorbell detected visitor. What does
- 14:14that mean? So, the doorbell has a uh a
- 14:18camera on it when you get up to a
- 14:19certain proximity and when you ring it,
- 14:22it detects a visitor. Okay. Detective
- 14:25Coder just asked Chris about the home
- 14:27security system that detected Shannan's
- 14:29arrival just after midnight on the
- 14:32morning of August 13th. Now, it's very
- 14:34likely that Detective Coder already
- 14:36knows what the security notification
- 14:39meant, but he wants Chris to know the
- 14:41enormity of the information that law
- 14:44enforcement already has. And even more
- 14:47so, he wants to hear the way that Chris
- 14:50answers the question. Now, if you watch
- 14:52closely, you can see that right after he
- 14:55answers him, Detective Coder stands up
- 14:57to close the door, and you can see
- 15:00Chris's body language change right
- 15:02before your eyes. Watts is demonstrating
- 15:05all of the telltale signs of a man who
- 15:08was trapped and very clearly doing
- 15:10everything in his power to hide the
- 15:12truth. So, I work a lot of stuff like
- 15:15this in bank robberies. And when I talk
- 15:16to, you know, a witness at a bank
- 15:18robbery, sometimes I find it best for
- 15:21them to just say, uh, I just say, uh,
- 15:24tell me what happened, get it all out,
- 15:26and then once you get it out, let's go
- 15:28over it. Okay? So, just get it all out
- 15:30as far as this. Tell me exactly what you
- 15:32remember, and I'll take notes about
- 15:33where we can go.
- 15:35Did you catch that? Detective Coder has
- 15:38just told Chris that he would like for
- 15:40him to tell the story of what happened
- 15:42in his own words from the beginning, but
- 15:44he equated his past experience as an
- 15:47investigator to interviewing victims of
- 15:49a bank robbery. Law enforcement already
- 15:52knows that Chris and Nicole are likely
- 15:55having an affair based on the records
- 15:57they have alone. And at the same time
- 16:00that we see Chris in this hot seat, his
- 16:03mistress Nicole is just miles away
- 16:05speaking with the FBI at a local park
- 16:09absolutely lying through her teeth. But
- 16:12right now, Detective Coder needs to get
- 16:15Chris to tell him his first version of
- 16:17the truth. And he needs to do it before
- 16:20he shuts down the interview and requests
- 16:23a lawyer. So, this 1:48 a.m. Back up.
- 16:27Let me switch the chairs because when
- 16:29they come knocking out
- 16:33knocking, I got to use that key.
- 16:36Do you need more water? No.
- 16:39All right.
- 16:41[Music]
- 16:44Detective Coder has just proven what a
- 16:46skilled interrogator he is because this
- 16:50important seat change was started right
- 16:52as Chris began telling his first version
- 16:55of events. It's clear that he wants
- 16:57Chris to feel trapped by this
- 16:59positioning, putting himself between
- 17:02Chris and the door. He wants Chris to
- 17:04know that he's not leaving. But more
- 17:07than anything else, Detective Coder, the
- 17:10father and husband, he wants to know
- 17:13what Chris did. He wants to know where
- 17:16to find his family. All right. So, 1:40
- 17:19a.m. doorbell detects a visitor. So,
- 17:23when we were um over at the neighbor's
- 17:25house that the next day, we were looking
- 17:27at his camera as well, and it didn't
- 17:29show anybody walking up to the driveway,
- 17:31which is kind of weird. That's the only
- 17:32reason I put that on there cuz it showed
- 17:35Nicole dropping her off but nobody
- 17:37actually walking up to the house. It was
- 17:38kind of weird. But she was in the house.
- 17:42Listen, I understand that criminals say
- 17:45and do very dumb things sometimes. But
- 17:48it doesn't make any sense to me why
- 17:50Chris thought anything good would come
- 17:52of this stupid lie. He just admitted to
- 17:56Detective Coder that the neighbor's
- 17:58camera never caught Shannan's arrival
- 18:00that morning, which means he knows that
- 18:03law enforcement is aware of the fact
- 18:05that the neighbor's camera also never
- 18:07showed anyone but him leaving that same
- 18:10morning. But I suppose that's why Chris
- 18:13can never seem to maintain eye contact
- 18:16throughout this entire interview because
- 18:18he knows he's a terrible liar and
- 18:21absolutely everyone can see it. And what
- 18:24time we talking? This is still 1:48.
- 18:27Okay.
- 18:28Uh 2:00 a.m. Shane gets in the bed with
- 18:30me.
- 18:324:00 a.m. That's when my alarm goes off
- 18:34for work and I'm see get dressed, brush
- 18:36my teeth, everything I do upstairs.
- 18:38Okay. About 4:15, that's when I get
- 18:42back, slide right into bed next to her
- 18:44and start having a conversation with her
- 18:46about having the house up for sale and
- 18:50talking about se like actually going
- 18:52proceeding with the separation. Okay.
- 18:55And obviously it gets pretty emotional
- 18:57like we're talking about you know like
- 18:58we felt this the disconnection was there
- 19:00like falling out of love and trying to
- 19:04stay together maybe just for the kids
- 19:05sake but realizing that doing like our
- 19:08homework it's not most of the time
- 19:10that's not going to work. Yeah. Now for
- 19:12many of us who have taken the time to
- 19:14study this case all of this is very
- 19:17familiar. We know that this is the first
- 19:19series of lies that Chris will tell law
- 19:21enforcement and that eventually he will
- 19:24alter his story more than a few times.
- 19:27But it's at this point of the interview
- 19:29that I realized something. Chris's story
- 19:32is surprisingly very detailed and as we
- 19:35know very fabricated. And from
- 19:37everything we know about Chris, it's
- 19:39clear that throughout his upbringing and
- 19:42his marriage that he was the kind of
- 19:44person who followed the strong women in
- 19:47his life. In his early years, that was
- 19:49his mother. Then it was Shannan. But
- 19:52right here, right now, it's Nicole
- 19:55Kessinger. And I just can't help but
- 19:58notice how rehearsed, specific, and
- 20:01detailed this lie is. And I promise you
- 20:05that will become very important in the
- 20:08very near future. And it gets pretty
- 20:10emotional because we have two beautiful
- 20:12kids and we have one on the way. So it's
- 20:15just a matter of like it was very
- 20:17emotional. We were both crying and at
- 20:19the end we just said, you know, she said
- 20:22she was going to take the kids to her
- 20:24friend's house the day she would be
- 20:26back. Okay. Okay. Listen, we all know
- 20:29that Chris Watts is capable of
- 20:31concocting lies with relative ease, but
- 20:34it's hard not to notice just how calm he
- 20:37is right now. Because remember, it's
- 20:40only been about 24 hours since Chris
- 20:42committed what is easily one of the most
- 20:45grizzly and heinous crimes anyone could
- 20:48ever commit. Now, over the years, we've
- 20:51learned that in the hours following his
- 20:53crimes, he felt a sense of relief that
- 20:56he was now happy because he could
- 20:58finally be with Nicole Kessinger. So,
- 21:01then I can't help but ask the question,
- 21:04why would he be so confident in such
- 21:07obvious lies? It's almost as though
- 21:10Chris had reason to believe that this
- 21:12poorly planned deceit had cause. And
- 21:16because of new information, we now know
- 21:18that Chris was communicating with Nicole
- 21:21through a second secret app that they
- 21:24clearly both believed that law
- 21:26enforcement would never find. And it
- 21:29really seems that Chris believed that
- 21:32Nicole was waiting for him on the other
- 21:34side. And until law enforcement
- 21:37subpoenas those records, we cannot know
- 21:39with certainty what Chris and Nicole
- 21:42said. But it sure seems like his words
- 21:44were carefully planned with the singular
- 21:47intent of being with Nicole and
- 21:50ultimately to do whatever it took to get
- 21:53away with murder. And so I went
- 21:56downstairs, made my protein shake, the
- 22:005:00 a.m. That's when I did that, packed
- 22:02my lunch box, had my oatmeal, chicken,
- 22:06fill my water jug up. 5:15 I went
- 22:09outside back my truck up and loaded up,
- 22:11had my book bag, my lunch box, computer,
- 22:13water jug, my big big clear container. I
- 22:16put big clear containers in my truck so
- 22:18it's easy just to pull out pull in just
- 22:20depending on what I'm going to use my
- 22:22O-ring kit. And I knew I was going to do
- 22:23some stuffing box rubbers that day. So I
- 22:27got some various open wrenches from my
- 22:28tool box and I know those work better
- 22:30than the ones they would give me. Okay.
- 22:33Um 5:30 that's when I went to work.
- 22:36Okay. And I had heard from Shenan for to
- 22:40for about two hours there. So 7:40 I
- 22:42texted her and after she could tell me
- 22:44where the kids were if she took them
- 22:46anywhere. Okay. Nothing. Okay. What we
- 22:50just heard was Chris describing the
- 22:52morning of August 13th, 2018. You
- 22:55remember the exact same time that Nicole
- 22:58Kessinger's phone just happened to ping
- 23:00from the cell tower directly next to the
- 23:03Watts's home. and everything that he is
- 23:06saying seems so much worse when you know
- 23:09what he was actually doing that morning
- 23:12and the lengths that he had gone to to
- 23:14completely annihilate every good thing
- 23:18that he had ever been entrusted with. At
- 23:2112:00 I texted her again called me
- 23:23nothing. And then about 12:10 p.m.
- 23:25That's when my doorbell visitor, it read
- 23:28another visitor and I was like, "Hey, it
- 23:30popped up on my phone and it says it was
- 23:32Nicole." And I try I put it on my phone
- 23:36to see if like she's just trying to get
- 23:37in or whatnot. And I hear like she's on
- 23:40the phone trying to I could I could hear
- 23:42her on through my phone saying she's
- 23:43trying to get Shenan. So that's when I
- 23:45called her. I called her at 12:20. She
- 23:47wasn't going on. She told me that Shan
- 23:49hadn't responded to any of her calls all
- 23:52day or any of her friends calls all day.
- 23:55Okay. And that's that's kind that's very
- 23:57strange just because I mean if she
- 23:58doesn't get back to me that that's fine,
- 24:00you know, like she gets busy with kids
- 24:01and whatever. So if she doesn't get back
- 24:03to her people like the people like she
- 24:05works with direct sales. Okay. So if she
- 24:07doesn't get back with them, that's
- 24:08strange. Is she the type to answer the
- 24:10phone? For them like all the time. Yeah.
- 24:13For me it's just like hey wait I'll see
- 24:15you later.
- 24:17It's been said so many times throughout
- 24:19the history of this case, but Nicole
- 24:21Atkinson is the reason why Shannan and
- 24:25the girls were found so quickly. If she
- 24:28hadn't been as aggressive, forcing Chris
- 24:31to come home that afternoon, this case
- 24:33may not have had the same conclusion.
- 24:36But it's here, only minutes into the
- 24:38first formal interview with Chris Watts,
- 24:40that I want to remind you of why we
- 24:43continue to discuss this case. Because
- 24:46in just 85 days from the date of this
- 24:49interview, this case and all outstanding
- 24:52investigatory leads will be closed by
- 24:56District Attorney Michael Ror's office.
- 24:58The same man who from the onset of this
- 25:01case has told the general public in so
- 25:04many words that the conviction of Chris
- 25:06Watts outweighed the importance of
- 25:08completing their investigation, holding
- 25:11everyone involved accountable and
- 25:14obtaining justice. Um, so about 12:40,
- 25:19uh, a few more efforts from Nicole to
- 25:21reach her while she's there, like
- 25:23outside the house. Mhm. And at 1:00,
- 25:25that's when I left. And I was like, "All
- 25:26right, I'm on my way down there.
- 25:29uh 2:00 when I got home uh because they
- 25:31can't they couldn't get in because the
- 25:33front door had a top latch to keep the
- 25:35kids in. Uh Nicole and the police
- 25:38officer out there. Oh, right. Okay. Got
- 25:40it. Um so they couldn't get in because
- 25:44top latch of the car, I mean top latch
- 25:46on the front door was hinged and the
- 25:49keypad on the outside does not work to
- 25:51get in the garage. So they had to wait
- 25:53till I got there so I can get the remote
- 25:55open. Okay. And this is why I am a vocal
- 25:58supporter of Nicole Atkinson. Chris
- 26:01Watts was caught far earlier than his
- 26:03plan had accounted for. Originally, he
- 26:06was hoping that he would have enough
- 26:08time to go to work, leave at a normal
- 26:11time, all while sending messages faking
- 26:14his concern for Shannan. He needed time
- 26:17to get home, move her car, her phone,
- 26:20and all of the crime scene evidence to
- 26:22get it as far away from his house as
- 26:25possible. That's why it's so critical
- 26:28that Chris was interrupted before he
- 26:31could get home and dispose of Shannan's
- 26:33belongings. And it's why his story
- 26:36didn't make any sense in light of the
- 26:38evidence. Because the only logical
- 26:41explanation for why Shannan and the
- 26:43girls were never seen leaving the Watts
- 26:46home on camera is because they left in
- 26:49his truck and that Chris truly is the
- 26:52monster that everyone believes him to
- 26:55be. So when I got home, I opened the
- 26:58garage door and we went inside the house
- 27:00and looked everywhere. Shann
- 27:03nowhere to be found. Shann's wedding
- 27:05ring's on their nightstand. Her phone's
- 27:07still on the couch. Her purse is still
- 27:09there. The medicine for the kids still
- 27:10there. The car in the car seat is still
- 27:12there. And there's no sign of them
- 27:14anywhere. Okay. Okay. Does anyone else
- 27:16notice that Chris is reading from a
- 27:19document? That would mean that in a span
- 27:21of just over 24 hours, Chris created a
- 27:25detailed outline of the prior day's
- 27:27events. Put that in perspective for just
- 27:30a minute. Chris was not known to do
- 27:33things like this. He wasn't a highly
- 27:35organized person who was also incredibly
- 27:39meticulous about dates, times, and
- 27:41events. Well, wouldn't you know it,
- 27:43there was someone in his life who
- 27:45happened to be very detailed about
- 27:47dates, times, and events. And if you
- 27:49turn to page 942 of the Watts Discovery,
- 27:53you'll find this exceptionally detailed
- 27:56outline that came from none other than
- 27:59Nicole Kessinger herself. In fact, it's
- 28:02so detailed it provides a near forensic
- 28:06level recollection of the dayto-day
- 28:08events concerning Nicole's supposedly
- 28:12short acquaintance with Chris Watts. You
- 28:14know, I just think it's very, very
- 28:16interesting that Chris is reading from a
- 28:19surprisingly similar document that
- 28:21outlines the events of the day prior in
- 28:24virtually the exact same way that Nicole
- 28:27Kessinger does just weeks later. And if
- 28:30you're the kind of person who sees this
- 28:32Everestsized mountain of suspicious
- 28:35behavior from Nicole as nothing more
- 28:37than mere coincidence, then good news. I
- 28:40have some property to sell you. Okay,
- 28:42I'm not going to say it, but my point
- 28:45still stands because at some point law
- 28:47enforcement needs to be honest with the
- 28:50monumental mistakes they made on this
- 28:52case. And you're about to see why. Uh
- 28:563:00 um rather the police officer
- 29:00detective
- 29:02Bob Howard, right? Oh, yes.
- 29:06Butcher's name every time
- 29:08Nicole and I, you know, questions about
- 29:10where she could have gone or who she
- 29:12could be with. Um at about 4:00, police
- 29:16officers that was there, he was checking
- 29:17neighbor security footage.
- 29:20Um at 5:00 p.m. uh the same same police
- 29:23officer, detective, and then sergeant,
- 29:25another officer, they showed up and they
- 29:27searched the house again. Um about 6:00
- 29:31they didn't call around. Anyone that I
- 29:32could that that may know something
- 29:35called hospitals and hotels. Uh 7:30 is
- 29:38my friend Nick showed up to show
- 29:39support. And from then on, it's just
- 29:41friends showing up. Shows Lauren, Dave,
- 29:44Jeremy. And 10:00 is pretty much where I
- 29:46laid down, but I didn't go to bed till
- 29:48about like 2:00 a.m. just cuz I was
- 29:49feeling text and calls all night. Okay.
- 29:52And I was just hoping that I left all my
- 29:54in the house. I was hoping that I would
- 29:56get a knock on the door, but nothing
- 29:58happened. Yeah. But nothing happened. Do
- 30:00you know what absolutely blows my mind
- 30:02about this case? It has been nearly 7
- 30:04years since Chris committed this crime.
- 30:06And in all that time, he has never once
- 30:09attempted to sincerely apologize for
- 30:13what he did. In fact, he's done just the
- 30:16exact opposite. He's forced friends,
- 30:18family members, and acquaintances to
- 30:20live with this endless black hole of
- 30:23suffering because he simply refuses to
- 30:26just tell the truth. He co-opted people
- 30:29who loved him in an attempt to gain
- 30:31their sympathy. And now, once again,
- 30:34he's changed his story to put the blame
- 30:37on anyone other than himself. And one of
- 30:40the worst elements of this case is that
- 30:43because he lied so much and so often
- 30:46that even if he does decide to tell the
- 30:49truth someday, law enforcement won't
- 30:51even believe him. But I suppose that's
- 30:54why so many of us still see this case as
- 30:58incomplete because the truth deserves to
- 31:00have its day even if Chris refuses to
- 31:04participate in making it a reality. What
- 31:07do you think happens?
- 31:10At first, I really thought maybe she was
- 31:12just at somebody's house doing a
- 31:14decompressing scene. Yeah. But after
- 31:16today, like with the onslaught of all
- 31:20the cars, I mean, all the police cars,
- 31:22all the news, all the K9 units,
- 31:25it's making me lean the other direction
- 31:27about someone took her. Okay. But it's
- 31:30just
- 31:32if someone took her, it would have to
- 31:35have been someone she knew
- 31:37because there's there's no sign of
- 31:39anything like being disturbed, broken.
- 31:41Mhm. But like that's the way Elena now.
- 31:44At first I thought for real. She was
- 31:45just decompressing somewhere. I mean, I
- 31:48thought she was safe even though
- 31:49everything in the house was left there.
- 31:52But now it's just after the day with the
- 31:54news crews and everything, it's just it
- 31:55feels more the other direction and it's
- 31:57freaking me out.
- 32:00cuz I have no idea where where they are.
- 32:05Okay. Since I began this channel, I have
- 32:08spent countless hours researching every
- 32:11nook and cranny of this case. I have
- 32:14learned about Chris's upbringing, the
- 32:16way he carried himself with his friends,
- 32:18his parents, but especially around
- 32:21Shannan. Now, it's obvious that Chris
- 32:23Watts was a terrible liar and incredibly
- 32:27self-diluted. a man incapable of seeing
- 32:30the forest for the trees. But in the
- 32:33months following his conviction, law
- 32:35enforcement was so baffled by his crime
- 32:38that they conducted a follow-up
- 32:39interview at his prison in an effort to
- 32:42try to understand why he would do this.
- 32:45Law enforcement has admitted that Chris
- 32:47Watts did not fit any of their current
- 32:51or existing offender profiles. And every
- 32:55single time that I hear him speak, all I
- 32:58hear are the words of a man who I
- 33:00believe was so clearly influenced into
- 33:03committing this crime. And that's why I
- 33:06will never understand why DA Ror refuses
- 33:09to admit his clear failures and finally
- 33:13properly investigate this crime to fix
- 33:17what they so clearly broke.
- 33:20If you
- 33:22could think of anything that we could do
- 33:24to find them, what would it be?
- 33:29I mean, everything that I've exhausted
- 33:31so far is like people that have car
- 33:34seats cuz she left the car seats and she
- 33:37was never just I mean I mean Bella could
- 33:39sit in a regular booster chair that
- 33:42because she's about that time. Celeste
- 33:44isn't quite there yet. But
- 33:48all the people that I know that have
- 33:50cartly, they've contacted me. I mean,
- 33:53unless it's I mean, there's there's
- 33:56definitely a chance it's somebody I
- 33:57don't know of being a guy or a girl. I I
- 34:00mean, and she has plenty of friends
- 34:01through like direct sales that I I've
- 34:04never met that could have a could have a
- 34:07kid that she they come and just say,
- 34:10"Hey, you know, let's go." Like just
- 34:11back up in the back, put them in. Let's
- 34:13go.
- 34:15Did you just hear that? Christa said
- 34:17something that I now believe is a
- 34:19critical part of this case. He just
- 34:22said, and she has plenty of friends
- 34:24through direct sales that I have never
- 34:26met. They could have a kid and they
- 34:28could have come and said, "Hey, let's
- 34:30go." And they back up to the back of the
- 34:32house, put them in and go. Chris is
- 34:35telling law enforcement that there is
- 34:37another way in and out of his house
- 34:41other than the front door and garage.
- 34:43He's giving law enforcement key
- 34:46information that they seemingly missed
- 34:48over and over again. It's evident in the
- 34:52way that he describes the situation that
- 34:54he wants them to know that there is an
- 34:56alternate route into his house through
- 35:00Verbina Court, this road here, that goes
- 35:03directly up to their tiny backyard fence
- 35:07that absolutely anyone could have easily
- 35:10traversed. You know, kind of like an
- 35:13obsessive mistress whose phone just
- 35:15happened to ping from Frederick that
- 35:17morning. So, it starts to make a lot
- 35:20more sense why Chris is now telling law
- 35:22enforcement how Shannan could have
- 35:24disappeared because that very well may
- 35:27have been how Nicole Kessinger
- 35:29disappeared that morning. And this is
- 35:31like that's what's driving me nuts. Like
- 35:33when I told the news like if she's out
- 35:35there like just come home like who if
- 35:39someone has her or might not just have
- 35:41it but she's at somebody's house and
- 35:42she's just depressing it's it's time to
- 35:44come back now this is real. Okay. This
- 35:47has gone to a different level.
- 35:49Absolutely.
- 35:51Okay.
- 35:53Um do you have any inkling of if it's
- 35:57good or bad?
- 36:00Yesterday I would have thought that she
- 36:03was safe and she would it was good that
- 36:05she would been that she would come home
- 36:08today. It's more on the other side. It's
- 36:10I don't think that she would let it get
- 36:13this far if she was just decompressing
- 36:15somewhere. I mean she's not talking to
- 36:17anybody as far as I mean people that
- 36:19reached out to me that I haven't talked
- 36:21to in like a year that are friends with
- 36:23her.
- 36:24What we just heard is the exact same
- 36:27response that Chris gave to the local
- 36:29news that opened the door to the public
- 36:32believing that he was involved.
- 36:34Listening to the way he says these
- 36:36words, it's impossible not to notice
- 36:39just how completely inauthentic it is.
- 36:42And it's evident throughout this entire
- 36:44series of interviews that Chris had no
- 36:47earthly idea just how guilty he sounded.
- 36:50And I wonder if someday he'll come to
- 36:52the realization that the only way he
- 36:55will ever atone for what he did is to
- 36:58just tell the whole truth. The DA and
- 37:02local law enforcement might have given
- 37:04up on that outcome. I still haven't.
- 37:07When they look at this, what's the best
- 37:08thing that they can do to I don't know
- 37:11to say
- 37:12um look for these contacts, look for
- 37:15this Instagram, look for this Snapchat.
- 37:18So like the only thing on here that's I
- 37:21would say it's going to be weird because
- 37:23our contact list is the same. Detective
- 37:26Graham Coder and Agent Tammy Lee should
- 37:29have been allowed to take their time
- 37:31with this investigation because it's
- 37:34only been 15 minutes and Detective Coder
- 37:37has already asked the question that
- 37:40everyone in this investigation should
- 37:43have demanded answers to. Coder asks
- 37:46Watts if there's an Instagram or a
- 37:48Snapchat that they can review on Chris's
- 37:51phone when they eventually download all
- 37:53of his phone data. And you'll notice
- 37:55that immediately after he's asked that
- 37:57question, Chris completely changes the
- 38:00subject. And sadly, it's far too early
- 38:03for Detective Coder to understand just
- 38:06how vital this line of questioning was.
- 38:09And sadly, it's taken over half a decade
- 38:12for the answer to that question to come
- 38:14to light. Evidence that proves the
- 38:17inadequacy of this investigation. Um, is
- 38:20there any good ideas that your friends
- 38:22have had saying, "Am I going to try
- 38:24this? They're going to do this." A lot
- 38:25of people have asked about Amber Alerts,
- 38:26but I'm not sure like why that I'm not
- 38:28sure like I'm sure you know Amber Alerts
- 38:30have to do with like, "All right, if you
- 38:32know someone has taken a kid, like since
- 38:33the last person you saw was the mom and
- 38:36you'll see me, everybody's gone." Yeah,
- 38:38that's probably why amor is not really
- 38:40used in this respect. Well, they did
- 38:42they did a press statement. Listen, I
- 38:45understand that Chris was hiding one of
- 38:47the most vile crime scenes in Colorado
- 38:50history, but I genuinely cannot
- 38:52understand his complete apathy towards
- 38:56his own children. It seems like he
- 38:58doesn't even know how objectively
- 39:01bizarre his behavior is because he can't
- 39:04even seem to competently fake concern
- 39:07over the reality that his pregnant wife
- 39:10and children are missing. which only
- 39:12further strengthens my view that the
- 39:15only logical explanation of why he could
- 39:18be so flagrant in his disregard for his
- 39:21family's well-being is because he knew
- 39:23that his mistress was waiting for him
- 39:26and that all he needed to do was find a
- 39:28way to prevent law enforcement from
- 39:31finding the nightmare that he was hiding
- 39:34at Survy 319.
- 39:36How could she have left the house?
- 39:40Only way she could have left the house
- 39:42is if somebody picked her up, but it
- 39:44would have to been from the back. It's
- 39:46the camera in the front where the
- 39:48neighbor the way it faces the driveway.
- 39:50It would have picked that up. Only thing
- 39:53it picked up was me leaving at like
- 39:545:26. Okay. How do you know? Is it your
- 39:57camera? It's neighbor's camera. Oh, did
- 39:59he tell you? Yeah, we we were all over
- 40:01there watching it with the officer.
- 40:03Okay. All right. They just saw me
- 40:05loading up my truck.
- 40:07Chris is again reminding Detective Coder
- 40:10that the only other way that anyone
- 40:12could have left the house undetected
- 40:15would have been through the backyard
- 40:17since no other movement was picked up by
- 40:19neighbor Nate's camera. But Chris knows
- 40:22that every single person who loves
- 40:24Shannan is telling law enforcement that
- 40:27Shannan would have never left the home
- 40:29without her cell phone, without the
- 40:31girl's car seats, and without her
- 40:33medication, let alone everything else
- 40:36she left behind. But Detective Coder is
- 40:39no fool. He knows that Shannan didn't
- 40:41leave through the backyard that morning.
- 40:44And he knows that the only person who
- 40:46does know where she is and where his
- 40:49children are is the man sitting in front
- 40:51of him. So, we talked about her
- 40:53decompression a few times. Where would
- 40:55she do that? She would have to go to her
- 40:57friend's house to do that. She wouldn't
- 40:58just go anywhere. Not with the kids.
- 41:02I've checked. She had if she had any
- 41:04cash on her, I'm not sure like how much
- 41:06she would have had on her. She doesn't
- 41:07usually doesn't carry much cash and the
- 41:09cash she had in her wallet was from Cole
- 41:11the previous day. Mhm. From coal. Oh,
- 41:14okay. She told me that was the cash you
- 41:15gave her. I saw when you found her purse
- 41:17for what?
- 41:20I'm not sure. She didn't tell me. Okay.
- 41:22But um that was only cash out of her
- 41:23wallet. And is that still at the house
- 41:25she said? Yeah. Okay. So, is her license
- 41:29in the wallet? Yeah. So, she's got no
- 41:31cash that we know of. No license, no
- 41:34phone.
- 41:36Um, anything about the clothes in the
- 41:39closet, the hamper, the drawers that
- 41:41makes you think she packs some boots,
- 41:42she's going to the mountains?
- 41:45Like, she has so many clothes in that in
- 41:47that closet. Like, it's it'd be hard to
- 41:48really tell if she took a little amount.
- 41:52When she took a big amount, it'd be
- 41:53pretty obvious, but like a little
- 41:54amount, it would never. Okay. Detective
- 41:58Coder is going step by step through
- 42:00every possible item that Chris claims
- 42:03Shannan left behind. While it may seem
- 42:06like he's trying to ascertain where
- 42:08Shannan took the girls, it's very likely
- 42:10that he already knows Shannan's not
- 42:12coming home alive. The point of this
- 42:15exercise is to make Chris say out loud
- 42:18that Shannan left the house without her
- 42:20clothes, her medication, her phone, or
- 42:23anything else the girls needed. and let
- 42:25the absurdity of that answer hang in the
- 42:28air and force Chris to the realization
- 42:31that the only avenue he has left is to
- 42:34reveal what he did with his family. But
- 42:37this detective could not have possibly
- 42:39known the lengths that the man sitting
- 42:42in front of him would go to just to
- 42:44avoid the truth, even at the expense of
- 42:48being labeled one of the most evil men
- 42:50alive. And it's my experience that when
- 42:52you are dealing with someone who refuses
- 42:55to tell the truth, the only option that
- 42:58you have left is to do it for them. Can
- 43:01we back up a tiny bit? You come home. No
- 43:04one has been in the house. No. Okay. No
- 43:06one could get in the house. Is that
- 43:07right? Yeah. Unless you had a garage
- 43:09door. Okay. And that's how you got in.
- 43:11So at this point, you get there. Are the
- 43:13police there at this point? Yes. So you,
- 43:15the police, Nicole, that's it. Her son.
- 43:18Her son. What's your son's name?
- 43:21I think it's Nick.
- 43:26I think his name's Nick. Nick. And so
- 43:29you and Nicole aren't besties, per se.
- 43:32You and Nicole? Oh, no. Like, I mean,
- 43:34we're friends, but yeah, my wife and her
- 43:37are really good friends. Okay. And so
- 43:40Nick, you don't spend much time with
- 43:41Nick? No. Okay. Why is Nick there? That
- 43:45he was just with her with his mom. Okay.
- 43:49Is there anything weird about Nicole in
- 43:50there?
- 43:52Not that I really think of.
- 43:55Do you think anything about your wife
- 43:56not being around has anything to do with
- 43:58Nicole in there?
- 44:01I would hope not.
- 44:03I mean, like Nicole is one of her good
- 44:05friends. Okay, so let's review.
- 44:08Detective Coder is asking Chris about
- 44:10what happened when he arrived home from
- 44:12work the afternoon of August 13th. He
- 44:15then asks Chris if Nicole Atkinson and
- 44:18her son Nick could have possibly been
- 44:21involved in the disappearance of Shannan
- 44:23and the girls. Chris Watts knows that
- 44:26Nicole Atkinson had nothing to do with
- 44:29his crimes. And instead of showing any
- 44:32semblance of decency by affirming Nicole
- 44:35Atkinson's innocence, he instead
- 44:37responds by saying, "I don't know if she
- 44:40was involved. I certainly hope not." Try
- 44:43to imagine the enormity of his response.
- 44:46If law enforcement didn't already have
- 44:48considerable information that suggested
- 44:51Chris's involvement, he could have
- 44:53placed Nicole Atkinson at the center of
- 44:56their investigation, wasting time and
- 44:59more importantly putting an innocent
- 45:01person under suspicion for the crimes
- 45:04that he committed. And while this
- 45:06investigation may have been rushed, we
- 45:09can be grateful that the detectives
- 45:11involved were smart enough to see
- 45:14through the avalanche of what's endless
- 45:16lies and misdirection.
- 45:20Begin calling around to anyone I know
- 45:22that could know something or maybe she
- 45:24shan calling locals, hospitals, and
- 45:26hospitals as well. 7:30 p.m. Friends,
- 45:30Nick and a man come by to show support.
- 45:34So 6 p.m. began calling around anyone I
- 45:36know that could know something or maybe
- 45:37seen. What happened there? Same thing
- 45:41like everybody that I've talked to is
- 45:43just like they haven't heard from her.
- 45:44They haven't seen her. They nothing
- 45:48called H. Who's helping you make these
- 45:50calls? That's just me at this point.
- 45:52That's you by yourself. I was by myself.
- 45:53I'm sure Nicole and other people were
- 45:55doing that while they were gone.
- 45:57Detective Coder has been reading
- 45:59directly from the surprisingly detailed
- 46:02outline that Chris brought to his first
- 46:04interview. Coder reads the segment about
- 46:06how Chris called friends to try and see
- 46:08if anyone had heard from Shannan. But
- 46:10then he reads how Chris claimed to have
- 46:12called local hospitals to try and see if
- 46:15Shannan had been admitted. And while
- 46:17this detective doesn't yet know the full
- 46:19scope of the truth, he will soon find
- 46:22out that Chris had made those calls. In
- 46:24fact, what's called Good Samaritan
- 46:27Medical Center, St. Anthony North Health
- 46:29Campus, Longmont United Hospital, and UC
- 46:33Health in Broomfield. The only problem
- 46:35was that Chris made all four of those
- 46:37calls in a span of just 4 minutes. So,
- 46:40it was quite literally impossible for
- 46:43him to have spoken with anyone at these
- 46:45hospitals and confirmed the absence of
- 46:49his wife and children. But even in spite
- 46:51of the lack of information at this very
- 46:54early stage of their investigation,
- 46:56Detective Coder is about to challenge
- 46:59all of Watt's lies and force him to
- 47:02reveal his tell to reveal the truth
- 47:05behind his lies. Um, can we talk about
- 47:08something that's kind of hard to talk
- 47:10about?
- 47:13So, when I work investigations like
- 47:15this, I have to keep an open mind on
- 47:18everything. Okay.
- 47:22And part of keeping an open mind is
- 47:25listening to you talk about your wife
- 47:27and your marriage. And
- 47:30the day she goes missing is the day that
- 47:32you guys have marital this quarter.
- 47:34Okay.
- 47:37So you can understand when I'm thinking
- 47:39about you. Yeah. What do you think about
- 47:41that?
- 47:43Makes me sick in my stomach honestly.
- 47:44Like I know like I've talked to a few of
- 47:47my friends like you know this does not
- 47:49look good on you. I'm like I know it's
- 47:51like people that if people knew that we
- 47:54were having marital issues
- 47:56they're going to look at me especially
- 47:58with the way everything looks. It
- 48:00honestly just makes me sick to my
- 48:01stomach because this is something that I
- 48:03would never do
- 48:07ever.
- 48:09Now, you don't have to be a body
- 48:10language expert to know that everything
- 48:12Chris Watch just said is complete and
- 48:15utter BS. From the way that he responds
- 48:18to the question of his implied
- 48:20involvement to the way he holds his
- 48:22hands, everything about his affect
- 48:25implies guilt. Thankfully, the sheer
- 48:27volume of evidence that law enforcement
- 48:29was building against Watts was already
- 48:32considerable, and this is still a full
- 48:35day before the infamous polygraph. But
- 48:38Detective Coder isn't going to allow
- 48:40Chris to squirm away and deflect from
- 48:42his suspicion. In fact, for the next 45
- 48:46minutes, this investigator is going to
- 48:48push Watts into an allout confrontation.
- 48:52Coder is going to demand answers for
- 48:54what Chris did to Shannan and the girls.
- 48:57And by the time he's done, law
- 48:59enforcement will know with certainty
- 49:01exactly who their primary suspect is.
- 49:05I know like you have to look at every
- 49:08every vantage point. This is something I
- 49:10would never do to my kids or my wife at
- 49:13all.
- 49:22I'm not sure like what I could do to
- 49:25like to make people believe that just
- 49:27because if they
- 49:29they think you were have marital
- 49:31discord, they would all automatically
- 49:32believe me. But there's no I would harm
- 49:35anybody in my family
- 49:38at all.
- 49:47I know we were having marital discord
- 49:49and we had that conversation that
- 49:50morning and then she goes, "We have no
- 49:54idea where she is or the kids."
- 49:59I promise you that has nothing to do
- 50:02with any of that.
- 50:14Very sign of the truth. Absolutely true.
- 50:19Why should I believe you? Because I'm a
- 50:21very trustworthy person. And the people
- 50:23that do know me, they know how I'm a
- 50:25calm person. I am not an argumentative
- 50:28person. I am a person who is
- 50:32never going to be abusive or physical in
- 50:35any kind of relationship. I will never
- 50:37harm my kids. I will never harm my wife.
- 50:41You can talk I mean you can talk to any
- 50:43of my friends, any of her friends. They
- 50:46know me. They know I'm a low-key guy
- 50:50that's quiet. I'm I'm not about
- 50:53confrontation. I'm not about anything
- 50:56that elevates to that level.
- 51:00I mean, like if someone like yells at
- 51:02me, screams at me. I just take it and I
- 51:05just try to get it by the wayside and
- 51:08get it back to where it's cool. It's a
- 51:10cool conversation to where like none of
- 51:12that none of that gets to that height.
- 51:14And I am not that person. Over the last
- 51:172 minutes, Chris Watts has
- 51:18unintentionally walked himself into one
- 51:21of the most elaborate traps that he
- 51:23could have possibly imagined. Detective
- 51:26Coder is letting Chris convict himself.
- 51:29He wants him to talk because every good
- 51:32investigator understands that they need
- 51:34the defendant to tell their story
- 51:37because every case has the potential to
- 51:40end up in front of a jury or in front of
- 51:43an appellet court. One of the most
- 51:45significant things that Chris said was
- 51:47near the end of that segment. He said,
- 51:50"When someone yells at me or screams at
- 51:53me, I just take it." I believe that the
- 51:56person you need to worry about most, it
- 51:59isn't typically the loudmouth or the
- 52:02arrogant braggards or even the ones who
- 52:04may appear dangerous. In my experience,
- 52:08the most perilous person of all is the
- 52:11person who gets yelled and screamed at
- 52:13and just takes it. But it's how Chris
- 52:16described himself that I want you to pay
- 52:18very close attention to. When Cota asks
- 52:21him why he should believe that Chris did
- 52:24not harm his family, Chris responds by
- 52:27telling him that he is a trustworthy
- 52:29person. Of course, now we know that his
- 52:32response was a complete and utter lie,
- 52:34but you will want to remember his
- 52:37undeniable tell. When Chris Watts lies,
- 52:40he describes himself as someone who
- 52:43friends and family would call
- 52:45trustworthy. Love those shoes, even
- 52:47though they were winter shoes. They were
- 52:50what? Winter shoes.
- 52:55Those are her boots, aren't they?
- 52:57was gonna sell them off to uh like that
- 53:01Facebook marketplace. She had them on
- 53:03the on the window seal there. And when
- 53:08we got back from North Carolina, since
- 53:10she saw them sitting over there and she
- 53:13proceeded to take them back and wear
- 53:14them every day since they got back, no
- 53:18matter if it was 100° outside or what,
- 53:20she loved those shoes.
- 53:23She always loves those shoes.
- 53:26Bella,
- 53:28she always wore some flip-flops. She
- 53:29always she just like she love that
- 53:31dress. She love the flip flops.
- 53:35She love that dress.
- 53:38The buns in the back.
- 53:41Everything we just heard rings at the
- 53:43heart of why so many people were so
- 53:46affected by this case. For just a
- 53:48moment, erase everything you know about
- 53:51this case. Imagine that all we know is
- 53:53that this is a father sitting in a
- 53:55police station interview room on the
- 53:58heels of his entire family seemingly
- 54:01disappearing into thin air. So then why
- 54:04is he not showing any emotion? Why is he
- 54:08laughing and acting like this is a time
- 54:10to casually reflect on his daughter's
- 54:13favorite items of clothing? You see,
- 54:16what Chris doesn't seem to understand is
- 54:18that his behavior alone could have
- 54:21convicted him in front of a jury without
- 54:24any other evidence. No father who claims
- 54:27to love his children would be sitting
- 54:29there while they are missing with such
- 54:32an apathetic and indifferent
- 54:34disposition. Even a psychopath would
- 54:37find a way to fabricate the appearance
- 54:40of concern. But I suppose that's why law
- 54:43enforcement wasn't able to profile Chris
- 54:46because not even they could conceive the
- 54:48depravity of what this man had done. I'm
- 54:52fell in love with those spaghetti strap
- 54:53dresses. She likes long dresses.
- 55:00She was a girly girl
- 55:02always.
- 55:06She just was like she want I always like
- 55:08put on a Supergirl t-shirt and she loved
- 55:10it every time.
- 55:16Casey always be smiling though.
- 55:19Bella, you have to like really kind of
- 55:21want some gum.
- 55:25She said you want some gum. She wasn't
- 55:27looking in this picture.
- 55:30She's always just on camera.
- 55:41I got to find him, right?
- 55:44I need your help. When I began my
- 55:47analysis of this case, I started with
- 55:50the very end, specifically when law
- 55:52enforcement interviewed Watts at Dodge
- 55:54Correctional in Wisconsin. Since that
- 55:57time, I have slowly worked my way back
- 56:00to the beginning. So, you'll have to
- 56:01forgive me when I say that hearing Chris
- 56:04ask Detective Coder, you're gonna find
- 56:06them, right? Those words make me see
- 56:09red. Listen, from the perspective of
- 56:12Chris, I get that he had to lie, and I
- 56:14understand that people use the excuse
- 56:17that he was an introvert. that somehow
- 56:20justifies his callous indifference. But
- 56:23none of that is an excuse for the
- 56:25heinous abomination waiting for these
- 56:28officers at Servy 319. And that's the
- 56:32reason why so many of us refuse to
- 56:34relent on this case. Because if Chris
- 56:36was coerced or encouraged in any way,
- 56:41this case should have ended in two
- 56:43convictions, not one. But thankfully,
- 56:46Detective Coder is about to pivot and
- 56:49walk Chris into another ambush while
- 56:52forcing him to reveal his true motive,
- 56:55the real reason why he committed this
- 56:58crime. Can we keep talking about some
- 57:00complicated things that some things are
- 57:02going to make you uncomfortable? That's
- 57:04fine. Okay. Um, and I think you know why
- 57:07I have to ask them. Okay. And part of
- 57:10the job. It's a hard job. It is a hard
- 57:12job. And I'm going to ask you one thing
- 57:15and you're going to give me an answer.
- 57:17Then I'm going to ask it just a slight
- 57:18bit different and you're going to give
- 57:20me an answer and then about 10
- 57:21iterations of this you might get annoyed
- 57:23but I do that to make sure that we
- 57:25understand each other. Okay. Is that all
- 57:27right? Yeah. Okay.
- 57:29Um
- 57:32so we have
- 57:35your daughters who are missing. We have
- 57:37your wife who's missing. Okay. And
- 57:40that's the most important thing right
- 57:42now. Okay. Um, do you agree with that?
- 57:45Yes. Okay. So, you've done very good in
- 57:48talking to me about this really hard
- 57:50conversation you guys had. Okay. Very
- 57:53good. That's sometimes hard. And I
- 57:55understand why sometimes someone in your
- 57:58position says uh doesn't want to tell me
- 58:00about that cuz please go help me find my
- 58:03kids and you don't need to know about my
- 58:05my marriage argument. Okay. So, I got to
- 58:08say you've done very good at that. Um,
- 58:10and I need you to keep doing that. So, I
- 58:12need to ask you about um your marriage
- 58:15and uh infidelity. Sure. Okay. Tell me
- 58:19about it. I've never cheated on my wife.
- 58:22Okay. And I fully suspect she has never
- 58:25done that to me. Oh, okay. Like, she's
- 58:28always been a trustworthy person. I've
- 58:30always been a trustworthy person. I
- 58:32fully expect if we ever thought about
- 58:35straying another way that we would tell
- 58:38each other before it happened.
- 58:41I think that sounds ridiculous.
- 58:44I'm a trustworthy person. You remember
- 58:48just minutes ago Chris used that same
- 58:50descriptor for himself when he lied and
- 58:53said that he did not harm his family.
- 58:56What we just saw was a masterful display
- 58:59of police work by Detective Coder. He
- 59:01used empathy and kindness to praise
- 59:04Chris for opening up about the argument
- 59:06that he claimed to have had with
- 59:08Shannan. And in so doing, Chris dropped
- 59:10his guard long enough to not see Coder
- 59:13counterpunch and force Watts to reveal
- 59:17another lie. Coder knows that Chris has
- 59:20been in near constant communication with
- 59:22Nicole Kessinger. He knows that Watts is
- 59:25lying about his question concerning
- 59:27infidelity and what Coder says next.
- 59:31Well, there's only one way to describe
- 59:33it. Chef's kiss. She's always been a
- 59:36trustworthy person. I've always been a
- 59:38trustworthy person. I fully expect if we
- 59:41ever thought about straying another way
- 59:45that we would tell each other before it
- 59:47happened.
- 59:49I think that sounds ridiculous.
- 59:52Okay. Cuz in the history of the earth,
- 59:54nobody ever does that. Okay. I just I
- 59:57just that's what I would like to think.
- 59:59Okay. I mean I mean I know mistakes
- 1:00:01happen like you know but that's what I
- 1:00:03in my head that's what I would think
- 1:00:05would h I would hope would happen.
- 1:00:07But now, even though I think that sounds
- 1:00:09ridiculous, if I was in your shoes, I'd
- 1:00:11say the exact same thing. And I believe
- 1:00:13that, okay? But I kind of don't. And you
- 1:00:16can imagine in my job, I meet all kinds
- 1:00:17of people. And you can imagine that
- 1:00:19there are people who have Saturdays with
- 1:00:21their girlfriends and Sundays with their
- 1:00:23wives, right? And they consider
- 1:00:25themselves to be very virtuous people.
- 1:00:27And this is why I believe DA Ror made an
- 1:00:30enormous mistake by allowing this
- 1:00:33investigation to stop after just 86
- 1:00:36days. Because Detective Coder and his
- 1:00:39counterpart, Agent Tammy Lee, were far
- 1:00:41and away the only law enforcement agents
- 1:00:45who understood how to get Chris Watts to
- 1:00:48talk. Detective Coder called out Watt's
- 1:00:51obvious lie, but he knows that he has a
- 1:00:54lot more information that could cause
- 1:00:56Chris to completely shut down. Right
- 1:00:59now, Chris Watts is there on his own
- 1:01:01valition, and Coder understands that if
- 1:01:04he pushes too hard, too fast, their
- 1:01:07investigation will come to a halt and
- 1:01:09will be funneled through the lens of an
- 1:01:12aggressive defense lawyer. It's a tight
- 1:01:15rope walk that Detective Coder does with
- 1:01:17masterful precision. And while Chris
- 1:01:20continues to deny having an affair, in
- 1:01:23the next few minutes, Detective Coder
- 1:01:25will change the subject entirely and
- 1:01:28expose Chris in another lie that he will
- 1:01:31not be able to recover from.
- 1:01:34When did you start pulling? It wasn't in
- 1:01:37the last 5 weeks. It has been ongoing
- 1:01:40process for probably about a year. Why?
- 1:01:43I just felt like everything that we had
- 1:01:45when we first started dating and like we
- 1:01:48met in 2010. Everything, you know, your
- 1:01:50new relationship sparked, everything
- 1:01:52caught in heaven, everything's great.
- 1:01:54Get married, everything's still great.
- 1:01:56And then like, you know, people just
- 1:01:58fall out of love. And that's that's
- 1:02:00where I was. Like I just felt like over
- 1:02:03the last year I thought that like, okay,
- 1:02:05maybe maybe this is just like a face.
- 1:02:07Maybe, you know, like just you know,
- 1:02:09this is what happened. Like you've been
- 1:02:10with somebody so long. maybe like you
- 1:02:12know the spark in there just reunited
- 1:02:14somehow some way but you know our
- 1:02:17conversations weren't the same like when
- 1:02:19we were apart like everything was just
- 1:02:20like you know short and it was just like
- 1:02:24it nothing felt right anymore the
- 1:02:26disconnection was there and it just
- 1:02:28never felt right anymore or why there is
- 1:02:32a very clear reason why detective coder
- 1:02:35is asking Chris about his marriage
- 1:02:37falling apart this detective already
- 1:02:40knows that Watts began and his affair
- 1:02:42with Kessinger around the same time that
- 1:02:44he claims his relationship with Shannan
- 1:02:47completely collapsed. Coder is trying to
- 1:02:50gauge what kind of person Watts is. And
- 1:02:52sadly, every time he asks the question,
- 1:02:56but why, he's obtaining a clear view of
- 1:02:59who Chris is and exactly what he was
- 1:03:02capable of doing. And can I just mention
- 1:03:05for a second how annoying it is that
- 1:03:07Chris is speaking fluent Nicoles right
- 1:03:10now. Listen, I'm not judging you if you
- 1:03:12use the word like as a filler word, but
- 1:03:15this is a grown man and it's impossible
- 1:03:18not to notice that he talks exactly the
- 1:03:20same way that Nicole Kessinger does
- 1:03:23whenever she lies. Our conversations
- 1:03:25weren't the same like whenever we were
- 1:03:28apart like and it was just like and I
- 1:03:30didn't feel it like Chris for the love
- 1:03:32of God stop it. Okay. Okay. I'm sorry
- 1:03:36but I do have good news. We're going to
- 1:03:38skip the part where Watts continues to
- 1:03:41overuse the word like and arrive at the
- 1:03:43moment where Detective Coder finally
- 1:03:46confronts Chris. The moment where Chris
- 1:03:49will finally show real emotion, but not
- 1:03:52sadness or empathy or anything that a
- 1:03:55normal father would be feeling on the
- 1:03:58heels of losing his entire family. Chris
- 1:04:01Watts is about to show this season
- 1:04:03detective the anger he's been hiding
- 1:04:06this whole time. Pay close attention to
- 1:04:09the next 10 minutes because it is the
- 1:04:12most important segment of this entire
- 1:04:15interview.
- 1:04:16So, let's have a hard conversation
- 1:04:18again. Okay.
- 1:04:27How old are they? Four and three. I'll
- 1:04:30be five in December. Okay.
- 1:04:36You can imagine that every day that goes
- 1:04:38by gets harder to find. Where we don't
- 1:04:40find your girls, it's going to get
- 1:04:43harder to find.
- 1:04:45We're going to have less clues.
- 1:04:48Things that we need to get and we need
- 1:04:50to use. The methods that we need to do
- 1:04:52to find them are going to start
- 1:04:55getting blown away by weather getting
- 1:04:58re-recorded over themselves at the
- 1:04:59surveillance that's going to tell us.
- 1:05:02All of that is going to disappear. Okay?
- 1:05:06And that's why we're going to spend so
- 1:05:07much time today, tomorrow as as in the
- 1:05:10front as we can, right?
- 1:05:13You can also imagine that every day that
- 1:05:14goes by,
- 1:05:19we're going to be looking for
- 1:05:22the man who did this. Okay? And you can
- 1:05:25imagine that we're going to include you
- 1:05:28as Batman.
- 1:05:32So,
- 1:05:34let's talk about that.
- 1:05:37I think that
- 1:05:39you're trying to put on a great face
- 1:05:41because you're a man and you're a father
- 1:05:42and you're a husband.
- 1:05:44I can tell that there's just something
- 1:05:47you're not telling me.
- 1:05:49And I'm not sure what it is. I don't
- 1:05:52know why that is. I don't know why
- 1:05:53you're not telling me, but there's
- 1:05:55something that's making you a little bit
- 1:05:56uncomfortable.
- 1:06:01I just don't believe some of the things
- 1:06:03you're telling me. Okay. I just don't
- 1:06:06simply do not believe you. Detective
- 1:06:08Coder has just called Chris out on the
- 1:06:11numerous lies that he already knows he's
- 1:06:13told. Coder clearly wants Chris to sit
- 1:06:16with the reality that the things he's
- 1:06:18told law enforcement do not ring true.
- 1:06:22And that's why he took the time to
- 1:06:24carefully construct this confrontation.
- 1:06:26It's why he told him directly that he
- 1:06:28simply does not believe him. Because the
- 1:06:31words that come out of Watt's mouth
- 1:06:34immediately after he's told that he's a
- 1:06:36liar tell law enforcement everything
- 1:06:39they need to know about the man sitting
- 1:06:41in front of them claiming to love his
- 1:06:44family. I just don't believe some of the
- 1:06:46things you're telling. Okay. I just
- 1:06:49don't simply do not believe you.
- 1:06:56What makes you think? What have I said
- 1:06:59that makes you not believe me at all?
- 1:07:03This just doesn't make sense to me. It
- 1:07:05doesn't add up. What have I said that
- 1:07:07makes you not believe me at all? Those
- 1:07:10are the words of a guilty man. And if I
- 1:07:13knew nothing else about this case, and
- 1:07:15this was the only interview that I was
- 1:07:18ever allowed to see, this would be the
- 1:07:20moment that I knew that Chris Watts was
- 1:07:23guilty of this crime. No innocent person
- 1:07:26would speak this way. But there is
- 1:07:28something very interesting about his
- 1:07:30answer that sheds light on the person
- 1:07:33sitting in that seat. For years, experts
- 1:07:36have opined that Watt's behavior
- 1:07:38demonstrates the actions of someone who
- 1:07:40is a disconnected introvert with signs
- 1:07:43of psychopathic tendencies. And he wants
- 1:07:46to know specifically what he said that
- 1:07:49sounds so incriminating so that he can
- 1:07:52change it. It's a near textbook example
- 1:07:55of the way that psychopaths and
- 1:07:57sociopaths behave. But now that Coder
- 1:08:00has him against the ropes, he will
- 1:08:02reveal a truth about Chris that is one
- 1:08:04of the most poignant and accurate
- 1:08:07descriptors of the man that would come
- 1:08:09from this investigation. The tale of two
- 1:08:12Chris's. So, can we talk about
- 1:08:15two Chrises?
- 1:08:18Crises. The tale of two Chrises. Canada.
- 1:08:22Um, and you need to help me know which
- 1:08:24Chris I'm looking at today and which
- 1:08:26Chris you really are. So
- 1:08:30Chris number one is right here, right?
- 1:08:34And
- 1:08:41fell out of love with his wife. Okay.
- 1:08:46Wondering what it might be if he didn't
- 1:08:47have a wife to take care of and a girl
- 1:08:49to take care of.
- 1:08:52spent some time alone. Liked that time
- 1:08:55alone.
- 1:08:57Came home.
- 1:08:59May or may not have had a conversation
- 1:09:01about how to get out of this marriage or
- 1:09:04how to fix it, but probably how to get
- 1:09:06out of it.
- 1:09:08Is looking at a bachelor pad in Brighton
- 1:09:11and
- 1:09:14did something terrible to his wife and
- 1:09:17kids.
- 1:09:19And that may have been an accident. I
- 1:09:21think it was an accident.
- 1:09:25That's not the curse you're looking at
- 1:09:27right now. I want you to try to imagine
- 1:09:29that you are sitting in that seat right
- 1:09:32now. A veteran detective has just spent
- 1:09:35the last several hours revealing the
- 1:09:37numerous inaccuracies in your story. And
- 1:09:40now he's directly accusing you of
- 1:09:43committing a quadruple homicide. So what
- 1:09:46would you say in response? Well, if
- 1:09:48you're Chris Watts, your response is to
- 1:09:50say, "That's not the Chris you're
- 1:09:52looking at right now." And in some weird
- 1:09:54and twisted way, that might actually be
- 1:09:57true, because the man sitting in front
- 1:09:59of this detective isn't the same man who
- 1:10:02just hours before committed one of the
- 1:10:04most heinous crimes you could imagine.
- 1:10:06But I suppose it's good that Chris Watts
- 1:10:09was arrogant enough to think that he
- 1:10:11could talk his way out of this crime
- 1:10:13because it's the words he would speak
- 1:10:15over the next 24 hours that would
- 1:10:17guarantee that he would never see the
- 1:10:20outside of a prison cell for the rest of
- 1:10:22his natural life. What do you think it's
- 1:10:25going to look like
- 1:10:27when someone finds out that it was not
- 1:10:30you that called 911?
- 1:10:34Everybody's going to have their own
- 1:10:36perceptions about what's going on here,
- 1:10:38but I know my wife. I know that
- 1:10:43sometimes she doesn't text me back. I
- 1:10:45know that happens.
- 1:10:48I I've I've been multiple times
- 1:10:51throughout many days. If she's busy with
- 1:10:54work, it doesn't happen. Chris was just
- 1:10:57asked what he thinks the general public
- 1:10:59will say about his inaction concerning
- 1:11:02not having called 911. And in response,
- 1:11:05he says, "Everyone is going to have
- 1:11:07their own perceptions about what is
- 1:11:10going on here." For the last 7 years,
- 1:11:13Chris Watts has continuously shown his
- 1:11:16disdain for everyone who watched this
- 1:11:18case unfold in real time. He believes
- 1:11:21that he doesn't owe anyone anything at
- 1:11:25all. not the truth, not accountability,
- 1:11:28and certainly not a sincere apology to
- 1:11:31the family whose lives he destroyed. But
- 1:11:33if you could distill my central
- 1:11:36reasoning for why I believe this case
- 1:11:38remains unresolved, it's because I
- 1:11:41believe that his lack of humility only
- 1:11:44lasted this long. Because he truly
- 1:11:46believed that this would end with Nicole
- 1:11:49Kessinger by his side. And while he will
- 1:11:52never live to see that day, I want to do
- 1:11:55everything in my power to make sure that
- 1:11:58Nicole Kessinger is held accountable for
- 1:12:01whatever her involvement may have been.
- 1:12:04And even though the two of them will
- 1:12:06never be able to be together again,
- 1:12:09maybe they can settle for sharing
- 1:12:11matching jumpsuits instead. We're back
- 1:12:13to his tale of two crazy. Okay. Is it
- 1:12:17Chris who cares?
- 1:12:19Um, I care. I promise. Tell me about the
- 1:12:23call to your daycare
- 1:12:25to the primrose.
- 1:12:27I called them to see if the girls were
- 1:12:29there. He said they weren't there. Okay.
- 1:12:33I told him since they weren't there,
- 1:12:34just put them back on the waiting list.
- 1:12:36That's not what you told.
- 1:12:39I told him that we were going to sell
- 1:12:40the house or put on the market or
- 1:12:43probably won't be in the area anymore.
- 1:12:44That's two different things, Chris.
- 1:12:46Well, I wanted them to be back on on put
- 1:12:49them on the away list since they weren't
- 1:12:50there.
- 1:12:52Why weren't they there? I don't know.
- 1:12:55Where were they going to go? They went
- 1:12:57to a Sen took him to a friend's house.
- 1:12:59Why wasn't they go to daycare?
- 1:13:02I am not sure. Uh honestly, sir, I am
- 1:13:05not sure. Detective Coder is in the
- 1:13:07final stages of this confrontation. And
- 1:13:10for the first time since Watts walked
- 1:13:12through that door, he's about to see
- 1:13:14that other Chris. the one he knows is
- 1:13:17responsible for this crime. Coder starts
- 1:13:20by asking Chris to explain what happened
- 1:13:23when he called Primrose to tell them
- 1:13:25that the girls would not be coming in
- 1:13:26that day. As usual, Chris lies. He says
- 1:13:29he called Primrose to see if the girls
- 1:13:31were there. Now, Coder knows that this
- 1:13:33is entirely untrue, but instead of
- 1:13:36ignoring it, he completely calls out his
- 1:13:38lie and lets Chris know that he knows
- 1:13:41it's a fabrication. Immediately, Chris
- 1:13:44pivots and concocts an entirely new set
- 1:13:46of lies, now saying that he told them
- 1:13:49that he was going to sell the house and
- 1:13:51asked to put the girls back on the
- 1:13:53waiting list. But law enforcement has
- 1:13:55already spoken with Primrose Elementary,
- 1:13:58and they know exactly what Chris said
- 1:14:00the day prior. And what he actually said
- 1:14:03was that the girls would no longer be
- 1:14:05attending that school at all. He never
- 1:14:08said anything about putting his house on
- 1:14:10the market. And Coder knows that. But
- 1:14:12the more he pushes Chris, the more that
- 1:14:14he can see this man has no interest in
- 1:14:18revealing any version of the truth. But
- 1:14:20watch this next segment closely and
- 1:14:23specifically look at Watt's behavior and
- 1:14:25mannerisms because Detective Coder is
- 1:14:28about to tell Chris the one thing that
- 1:14:30will cause him to show his true colors
- 1:14:33and reveal the other Chris. The man who
- 1:14:36Detective Coder knows actually committed
- 1:14:38this crime. It's hard for me as a father
- 1:14:41to talk to you about this. Not because
- 1:14:44it's the hard issue to talk about. It's
- 1:14:46because I'm worried about your daughters
- 1:14:49under your care.
- 1:14:52You shouldn't have to worry about them
- 1:14:53under my care. I watched them all
- 1:14:56weekend.
- 1:14:59I went to went to a pool party. Went to
- 1:15:01a pool party at Jeremy Lynn's house.
- 1:15:04It's like I love those kids
- 1:15:07with all my heart.
- 1:15:11Nothing in this world would ever make me
- 1:15:12do anything to these kids or my wife.
- 1:15:16This was truly some of the finest police
- 1:15:18work that was conducted by anyone during
- 1:15:22this investigation. Detective Coder has
- 1:15:25just sprung his trap and forced Chris to
- 1:15:27show who he really is. But I want to
- 1:15:30revisit that moment one more time as
- 1:15:33Chris responds to Coder saying, "I'm
- 1:15:35worried about your daughters under your
- 1:15:38care." Listen to his tone and the way
- 1:15:41that Chris responds to that statement.
- 1:15:44I'm worried about your daughters under
- 1:15:46your care.
- 1:15:49You shouldn't have to worry about them
- 1:15:50under my care. I watched them all
- 1:15:53weekend. Did you hear that? just how
- 1:15:56angry Chris sounds when he said, "I
- 1:15:58watched them all weekend." It's one of
- 1:16:01the only times that we get to hear and
- 1:16:03see what Chris Watts is truly capable
- 1:16:06of. You see, Chris spent most of his
- 1:16:09life hiding in plain sight. He fooled
- 1:16:12everyone around him into a false sense
- 1:16:15of security that he was a safe and
- 1:16:18harmless man because he doesn't seem to
- 1:16:20understand that just because he was a
- 1:16:23generally good person before the morning
- 1:16:25of August 13th, that does nothing to
- 1:16:28change what he did. In this case, the
- 1:16:31bad so far outweighs the good that even
- 1:16:34mentioning the man he was before is a
- 1:16:37slap in the face to the memory of his
- 1:16:39entire family. I've said it before and
- 1:16:42I'll say it again. Some of the most
- 1:16:44dangerous people you'll ever meet.
- 1:16:47They're the quiet ones. The people who
- 1:16:50hold in their anger and do just like
- 1:16:52Chris said in this interview. The people
- 1:16:54who stay quiet and take it. And if you
- 1:16:58ever have the misfortune of meeting
- 1:17:00someone like that, there's only one
- 1:17:02thing you should do. Run. Nothing you
- 1:17:06told me tonight makes sense.
- 1:17:08Nothing you've told me tonight feels
- 1:17:10like the truth.
- 1:17:16Can we start over? Sure.
- 1:17:20[Applause]
- 1:17:31I think that
- 1:17:36there's something that happened.
- 1:17:39That got me a little bit out of control.
- 1:17:43There was no fight. There was nothing
- 1:17:45physical.
- 1:17:47It was a It was a conversation. There
- 1:17:49was There's no We didn't raise our
- 1:17:50voice. Nothing.
- 1:17:56I promised you that there was there was
- 1:17:58nothing physical with this conversation.
- 1:18:01Nothing you've told me tonight makes
- 1:18:04sense. Nothing you've told me tonight
- 1:18:07feels like the truth. The words that
- 1:18:09Detective Coder just spoke are powerful
- 1:18:12and they force Chris to come to the
- 1:18:14realization that this isn't going away,
- 1:18:17that he is going to have to reveal the
- 1:18:20truth or at least some version of it.
- 1:18:22But in response to this direct
- 1:18:25confrontation of Watt's entire timeline
- 1:18:27of events, what we see is Chris choosing
- 1:18:30to continue to lie. And his obstinate
- 1:18:34refusal to share space with the truth
- 1:18:36forces Detective Coder to the
- 1:18:38realization that the only way they will
- 1:18:40find Shenan and the girls is to force
- 1:18:43this man to see the truth. To see that
- 1:18:46there's no way out. But before Detective
- 1:18:49Coder concludes this first interview
- 1:18:51with their prime suspect, he will place
- 1:18:54one final piece of bait on the line and
- 1:18:56ask Chris the question that every good
- 1:18:59law enforcement investigator knows to
- 1:19:02ask. The question that will eliminate
- 1:19:04any further doubt of who is responsible
- 1:19:07for the disappearance of Shannan, Bella,
- 1:19:11and Cece. When we find the guy who took
- 1:19:13him,
- 1:19:16what do you think we should do?
- 1:19:20Honestly, like
- 1:19:24they're going to come home safe.
- 1:19:25Correct.
- 1:19:27When you find the guy when we find the
- 1:19:29guy, they're going to come home.
- 1:19:34Life in prison would be the That's what
- 1:19:37I That's what I would think. But two
- 1:19:38kids. When we find the guy who took
- 1:19:41them, what do you think we should do?
- 1:19:43That's a question that law enforcement
- 1:19:45uses to gauge the subtle and overt
- 1:19:47response of the suspect they are
- 1:19:50interrogating. The idea is simple. An
- 1:19:52innocent man in the situation would
- 1:19:55likely advocate for the most serious
- 1:19:57sentence available. They would demand
- 1:20:00justice and want the offender to be
- 1:20:02shown the most serious form of
- 1:20:04punishment the law would allow. On the
- 1:20:06other hand, a guilty person would
- 1:20:09support a much lighter sentence because
- 1:20:11they know that that sentence is going to
- 1:20:13be the one they serve. And what we just
- 1:20:16saw was Chris Watts playing the
- 1:20:18awardwinning role of the guiltiest man
- 1:20:21alive. But isn't it strange that Watts
- 1:20:24asked Detective Coder the question,
- 1:20:26"They're going to come home safe."
- 1:20:28Correct. I'm sorry, but what kind of
- 1:20:31stupid question is that? I'm starting to
- 1:20:33wonder if Watts suffered from some kind
- 1:20:35of TBI because that's the only logical
- 1:20:39explanation for such a shockingly
- 1:20:41idiotic question like that. Now, just
- 1:20:43for a second, indulge me. In what
- 1:20:46universe? Would this detective possibly
- 1:20:48know whether or not your children are
- 1:20:52coming home safe or not? Chris, now I'm
- 1:20:55not dumb. I know you probably thought it
- 1:20:57was smart to try and sound like you
- 1:20:59believed your family was safe and coming
- 1:21:01home, but in retrospect, everything you
- 1:21:04just said in light of what we know you
- 1:21:07did is completely disgusting. And the
- 1:21:10worst part of it all is that you are now
- 1:21:13using religion to shield yourself and
- 1:21:16hide behind it so that you don't have to
- 1:21:18take public responsibility for your own
- 1:21:21actions. But don't worry because Chris
- 1:21:24isn't done humiliating himself yet. In
- 1:21:26fact, he's about to double down.
- 1:21:30What if he hurt them?
- 1:21:36Did they
- 1:21:37I'm not sure if like that penalty is
- 1:21:40even used. Is it used in Colorado? I am
- 1:21:43not even sure what is the death penalty.
- 1:21:45Okay. I I mean like if these kids are
- 1:21:48not alive like there's no there's
- 1:21:51nothing you could do to to cope with
- 1:21:54that to make me cope with that if those
- 1:21:57kids are not okay. Okay. So let's review
- 1:22:00the nonsense words we just heard. And I
- 1:22:03quote I mean like if these kids are not
- 1:22:06alive there's no there's nothing you
- 1:22:09could do to cope with that to make me
- 1:22:12cope with that if those kids are not
- 1:22:14okay. quote. Now, if I didn't know any
- 1:22:17better, I would say that this is the
- 1:22:19first alphab build of a chat GPT
- 1:22:21response that is so filled with complete
- 1:22:23BS that it no longer qualifies as
- 1:22:26existing within the lexicon of the
- 1:22:29English language. But let's go ahead and
- 1:22:31break it down. Chris just said that if
- 1:22:34these kids are not alive, wait, did you
- 1:22:36mean your kids, Chris? But then he says,
- 1:22:39there's nothing you could do to cope.
- 1:22:42And it's almost like immediately he
- 1:22:44realizes how dispassionate he sounds. So
- 1:22:46he corrects himself by saying that if
- 1:22:48something happened to those kids, not
- 1:22:50his kids, there's nothing you could do
- 1:22:53to make him cope with that. Chris, let
- 1:22:55me hold your hand with a paper towel in
- 1:22:57between and say the obvious thing right
- 1:22:59now. This is not how a concerned father
- 1:23:02who actually loves their children talks
- 1:23:05about their disappearance. But it's here
- 1:23:08at the conclusion of this first
- 1:23:10interview that I want to reiterate
- 1:23:12something very important. I accept that
- 1:23:16Chris Watts is responsible for this
- 1:23:18crime. That his actions leave the only
- 1:23:20logical conclusion that he actually
- 1:23:23deserves far worse than spending the
- 1:23:25rest of his life in prison. But we have
- 1:23:29to remember that in the eyes of the law,
- 1:23:31Chris Watts can retain responsibility
- 1:23:34for this crime. he can spend the rest of
- 1:23:36his life hiding behind a veil of prison
- 1:23:39religion while at the same time sharing
- 1:23:42the legal responsibility of this crime
- 1:23:45with anyone else who is involved in any
- 1:23:49way. Until now, I have been reticent to
- 1:23:52say these words, but they are important
- 1:23:55in light of what has been revealed over
- 1:23:57the last several chapters of our
- 1:23:59analysis. I believe the evidence we've
- 1:24:02uncovered supports the claim that Nicole
- 1:24:05Kessinger is likely involved with
- 1:24:07directing, encouraging, or inspiring
- 1:24:11Chris Watts to commit this crime. And
- 1:24:13that is precisely how Charles Manson was
- 1:24:16charged and sentenced to life in prison.
- 1:24:19The law recognized that his influence,
- 1:24:22direction, and coercion was the central
- 1:24:25cause of those horrific crimes. So,
- 1:24:28there's only one thing left to say.
- 1:24:31District Attorney Michael Ror, it's time
- 1:24:33to do your job. The job you were elected
- 1:24:36to do. It's time to put aside your
- 1:24:39pride, your ego, and your inability to
- 1:24:42accept criticism. And finally, do what
- 1:24:45justice demands. Because frankly, after
- 1:24:49all these years, I'm sick and tired of
- 1:24:52watching the entire true crime community
- 1:24:55do your job for you.
- 1:25:00Over the last several years, there has
- 1:25:02been a considerable shift in the
- 1:25:04political climate throughout the United
- 1:25:06States of America. But no matter what
- 1:25:08side of the aisle you are on, one thing
- 1:25:11we can all agree on is that our elected
- 1:25:14officials remain accountable to us. No
- 1:25:18one is immune from criticism, most
- 1:25:21especially the DA of Weld County,
- 1:25:23Colorado. Until now, everyone who is
- 1:25:26even remotely familiar with the story
- 1:25:29has been told by DA Ror, CBI, and local
- 1:25:33law enforcement that Chris and Nicole
- 1:25:36communicated for the very last time on
- 1:25:39the morning of August 14th, 2018. Law
- 1:25:42enforcement tells us that they confirm
- 1:25:45this with Chris's cell phone records
- 1:25:47despite admitting to never properly
- 1:25:49searching Nicole Kessingers's phone or
- 1:25:52the myriad of information that she
- 1:25:54intentionally deleted from it. Because
- 1:25:57we know that at 6:21 p.m., the day of
- 1:26:00August 14th, Nicole Kessinger was busy
- 1:26:03searching the internet for news
- 1:26:05concerning the disappearance of Shenan
- 1:26:08and the girls. the same person. She
- 1:26:11would claim that she was not at all
- 1:26:13concerned for her safety. But in
- 1:26:15Detective Prill's report, he notes
- 1:26:18Nicole's detailed and obsessive searches
- 1:26:20that she continuously conducted over the
- 1:26:23course of several hours throughout that
- 1:26:25day. Searches that were all deleted. But
- 1:26:29the detective, he takes it further and
- 1:26:32writes the following. These searches
- 1:26:34were conducted frequently by Kessinger
- 1:26:37throughout the next several days. She
- 1:26:40deleted every single one of them after
- 1:26:44each search. We also know that at 5:00
- 1:26:47p.m. that same afternoon, Nicole was
- 1:26:50frantically searching the internet,
- 1:26:51wanting to know, can cops trace text
- 1:26:54messages, and how long do phone
- 1:26:57companies keep text messages? Detective
- 1:27:00Prill's report could not have been more
- 1:27:03clear. He was practically pleading with
- 1:27:05his fellow law enforcement colleagues to
- 1:27:08conduct further investigation into the
- 1:27:11uncertainty of where Chris and Nicole
- 1:27:13were communicating from. But in case you
- 1:27:16need a reminder, let's briefly revisit a
- 1:27:19mere fraction of the facts we now know
- 1:27:22concerning Nicole Kessingers's treasure
- 1:27:24trove of lies. Time and time again, we
- 1:27:28have demonstrated the numerous occasions
- 1:27:30when Nicole Kessinger's story simply did
- 1:27:33not line up with the truth. We have
- 1:27:35proven that Nicole lied about not
- 1:27:37knowing Shannan's name, a name that she
- 1:27:40searched on Google half a year before
- 1:27:43ever claiming to have met Chris Watts at
- 1:27:46all. We know that Nicole patently
- 1:27:49misrepresented the seriousness of her
- 1:27:52relationship with Chris, lying to law
- 1:27:54enforcement and downplaying the constant
- 1:27:57pressure that she was applying to him in
- 1:28:00order to compel him to leave his wife
- 1:28:02Shannan. We also know that she told
- 1:28:05Chris that he would have to choose
- 1:28:08between her and his wife. And we proved
- 1:28:11that Nicole lied and claimed to be
- 1:28:13encouraging Chris to fix things with
- 1:28:16Shannan during his family trip to North
- 1:28:18Carolina, but in reality was sending
- 1:28:21Chris daily nude images to entice him to
- 1:28:25choose her instead. And the evidence
- 1:28:28substantiates that on the morning of
- 1:28:29August 13th, 2018, at the same time that
- 1:28:33Chris was in the process of covering up
- 1:28:35his crimes, Nicole Kessinger's phone
- 1:28:38pinged in Frederick at the cell tower
- 1:28:41directly next to the Watts residence.
- 1:28:44And in this episode alone, we've learned
- 1:28:47that the road that led up directly
- 1:28:49behind the Watts residence was a perfect
- 1:28:51route in and out of their home, which
- 1:28:54would have ensured that Nicole would not
- 1:28:56have been detected by the neighbor's
- 1:28:58security camera. The sheer volume of
- 1:29:01circumstantial and physical evidence
- 1:29:04that supports or suggests Nicole
- 1:29:06Kessingers's influence or outright
- 1:29:09involvement in this crime is both
- 1:29:11shocking and substantial. So, when we
- 1:29:15arrive at this moment on the evening of
- 1:29:17August 14th, the day after the crimes
- 1:29:20were committed, and we see Detective
- 1:29:22Prill nearly shouting at the DA, telling
- 1:29:25them that Nicole Kessinger was hiding a
- 1:29:28trail of information, it demands that DA
- 1:29:31Ror finally answer this question. Mr.
- 1:29:35Ror, why did no one in law enforcement
- 1:29:38or in your office ever bother to ask
- 1:29:41Watts or Kessinger where these pictures
- 1:29:44were coming from? Your discovery
- 1:29:46evidence clearly demonstrates that you
- 1:29:49conclusively verified that the pictures
- 1:29:51were not coming from Chris's text
- 1:29:53messages. So then why didn't you do your
- 1:29:56job and ascertain their origin? Now hold
- 1:30:00on before you answer. I actually have
- 1:30:02good news for you, sir. Because after 7
- 1:30:05years of you and your office outright
- 1:30:08refusing to properly investigate Nicole
- 1:30:11and determine the truth, I want to let
- 1:30:14you know that I've done your job for
- 1:30:16you. See, I know the answer to that
- 1:30:19question. And before I tell it to you, I
- 1:30:22want to read this segment from your
- 1:30:24discovery evidence one final time. I am
- 1:30:28certain Watts communicated far more with
- 1:30:32Kessinger than is reflected in his phone
- 1:30:36data, perhaps facilitated through the
- 1:30:38secret calculator application. It became
- 1:30:42apparent he was receiving assorted nude
- 1:30:45images of Kessinger that she was taking
- 1:30:47by herself and sending to Watts, which
- 1:30:51he then stashed in that application to
- 1:30:54prevent Shannan from ever seeing them.
- 1:30:57Months ago, I spoke with Chris Watt's
- 1:30:59former cellmate neighbor, Dylan Tolman.
- 1:31:02During our interview, I asked Tomman a
- 1:31:05series of questions concerning his
- 1:31:07friendship with Watts during their
- 1:31:09incarceration.
- 1:31:10It was during our conversation that
- 1:31:12Tomman randomly brought up the
- 1:31:14information about Watts and Kessingers's
- 1:31:17activities, and without even asking, he
- 1:31:19told me exactly where they were
- 1:31:21communicating from. The following is a
- 1:31:24brief excerpt from that interview.
- 1:31:27Chris already he got in a fight with CNN
- 1:31:33and
- 1:31:34over this stuff
- 1:31:37like I know he he said something about
- 1:31:38using a WhatsApp
- 1:31:41and the only way you can access that
- 1:31:43WhatsApp is if you go on his phone.
- 1:31:45Wait, wait, wait. Chris said he had a
- 1:31:47WhatsApp account. Yeah, that's what he
- 1:31:49told me.
- 1:31:51Wait, wait, wait. Hold on, hold on.
- 1:31:54What? Anyone has anyone from law
- 1:31:56enforcement ever asked you about this?
- 1:31:59No.
- 1:32:01So Chris admitted that he was
- 1:32:03communicating with Nicole over WhatsApp
- 1:32:08Yeah. Um that's like Facebook. It's like
- 1:32:11right. No, I know what it is. Twitter.
- 1:32:15It's a profile you have. Like we have
- 1:32:17it's a messenger service. Chris Watts
- 1:32:20and Nicole Kessinger were communicating
- 1:32:23from the third-party application
- 1:32:26WhatsApp. So, I would like to ask you,
- 1:32:28the audience, why in God's name is a
- 1:32:32YouTuber finding this new critical case
- 1:32:35information nearly 7 years after this
- 1:32:38case was closed? How can DA Ror or
- 1:32:42anyone in his office claim to have done
- 1:32:45their job when we are still finding out
- 1:32:47new information over half a decade after
- 1:32:50the fact? Because the next logical step
- 1:32:53in this process would be to find out
- 1:32:56what Chris and Nicole said in those
- 1:32:58messages to subpoena and obtain the
- 1:33:01records, the logs and data from WhatsApp
- 1:33:04and ascertain what Nicole knew at what
- 1:33:07time and the extent of what she was
- 1:33:10hiding. And as I've said, there is a
- 1:33:13reason why so many current and former
- 1:33:15members of law enforcement have
- 1:33:17continued to speak out in these comments
- 1:33:20sections because they recognize that
- 1:33:22this case remains incomplete. So the
- 1:33:25next time someone tells me, "Why do you
- 1:33:28still talk about this case?" I'll remind
- 1:33:30them that if I can find out new
- 1:33:33information about Chris Watts this long
- 1:33:36after the case was considered closed,
- 1:33:39then I can only imagine what else law
- 1:33:42enforcement could find if they would
- 1:33:45simply do their job. Last month on May
- 1:33:4930th, the Shelon County Sheriff's
- 1:33:50Department received a call from Whitney
- 1:33:53Decker. She explained that her daughters
- 1:33:55had not returned home from a scheduled
- 1:33:57visitation with their father, Travis.
- 1:34:00After a weekend of frantic searching,
- 1:34:03law enforcement would eventually locate
- 1:34:05Decker's truck near an empty campground
- 1:34:07in central Washington. Eventually, the
- 1:34:10remains of 5-year-old Olivia, 8-year-old
- 1:34:14Evelyn, and 9-year-old Payton were found
- 1:34:17a short distance from the campsite.
- 1:34:20Their father, Travis Decker, remains the
- 1:34:22subject of a nationwide manhunt and is
- 1:34:25the primary suspect in the triple
- 1:34:28homicide of his own daughters. You see,
- 1:34:31these cases aren't about maintaining a
- 1:34:34high conviction rate. They're about
- 1:34:36justice. And for some reason, the Weld
- 1:34:40County DA has completely forgotten that.
- 1:34:43Every single time I sit in front of this
- 1:34:46computer, every time I read the words of
- 1:34:49a coroner or study the interrogation of
- 1:34:52a determined detective, every single
- 1:34:55time I try to comprehend the confession
- 1:34:58of a father who chose his own
- 1:35:00selfishness over the lives of his
- 1:35:02children, I am reminded of my reason
- 1:35:06why. why I choose to stand with each of
- 1:35:09you to remind those around us why these
- 1:35:12lives matter so much. Because somewhere
- 1:35:15in the eyes of these children, we see
- 1:35:18the reflection of our own sons and
- 1:35:20daughters. And in some infantesimally
- 1:35:24small way, we feel the pain of their
- 1:35:27loss. Because at the heart of every case
- 1:35:30where a life is stolen is the
- 1:35:33realization that we want this nightmare
- 1:35:36to end. We want to arrive at a time and
- 1:35:40place where innocence no longer has to
- 1:35:43fear the selfishness of anyone capable
- 1:35:46of committing these crimes. And I know
- 1:35:49like so many of you, these little ones,
- 1:35:53they're our reason why. Because all I
- 1:35:56know is if this was my daughter, if this
- 1:35:59was my mother, my sister, or my friend,
- 1:36:03if I had known Shannan, Bella, and Cece,
- 1:36:07or if I had been the one to comfort the
- 1:36:10Rooch checks during the worst moment of
- 1:36:13their lives, and someone out there who
- 1:36:16had a hand in this crime remained free.
- 1:36:19And if now all these years later, she
- 1:36:22enjoys a life where her guilt has
- 1:36:25transformed her into a shell of the
- 1:36:28woman she was, I would want someone to
- 1:36:31do what I'm doing right now. And I would
- 1:36:34hope that they would choose to fight
- 1:36:37even when I couldn't because sometimes
- 1:36:40doing the right thing feels completely
- 1:36:43impossible and it requires more of us
- 1:36:46than we know how to give. But as long as
- 1:36:49the truth remains unknown, and as long
- 1:36:52as justice is out of reach, I know that
- 1:36:56I'm not alone when I say we will not
- 1:36:59give up. We owe it to Shannan, Bella,
- 1:37:03Cece, and Nico to continue to fight for
- 1:37:06a new investigation,
- 1:37:09to renew our commitment to advocate for
- 1:37:12justice, and to do whatever it takes to
- 1:37:16bring the truth to light. Slow
- 1:37:22on it, CeCe. No, don't let her touch the
- 1:37:24plate. No, no, no, no. Blow on it, Cece.
- 1:37:32I'll be
- 1:37:34blow CeCe. blow.
- 1:37:41[Music]
- 1:37:48Guess what, girls?
- 1:37:51Mommy has a baby in her belly.
- 1:37:56Are you guys excited?
- 1:37:58Yes. Are you really excited?
- 1:38:02Oh my goodness. Come give me a hug.
- 1:38:06[Music]
- 1:38:08I love you. I give the baby a hug. Can I
- 1:38:11give the baby a hug? I love you, Bella.
- 1:38:15You're so sweet.
- 1:38:17Hi, buddy. Say hey everybody. Hi
- 1:38:20everybody. Hi buddy. Hi buddy.
- 1:38:24Everybody. Let's invite Nana and Papa.
- 1:38:29Oh, Papa's on.
- 1:38:31Hi. Say hi, Papa. Hi papy papa.
- 1:38:38Hi papa.
- 1:38:40Hi boo. Say hi popup. Hi popup.
- 1:38:47[ __ ] in bed. [ __ ]
- 1:38:51No I'll stay with her. Don't take her
- 1:38:54away. I'm not taking her away.
- 1:39:02[Music]
- 1:39:09In closing today, I want to take a
- 1:39:11moment to tell every person who is
- 1:39:13listening to the sound of my voice just
- 1:39:16how grateful I am to have you here.
- 1:39:19Being able to create content is one of
- 1:39:22the most amazing gifts that each of you
- 1:39:24give me by affording me your time and
- 1:39:27thoughtful engagement. Now, I know it's
- 1:39:30been a while since we were last
- 1:39:31together, and as many of you know, I've
- 1:39:34had to tackle some very serious health
- 1:39:36issues since the beginning of this year.
- 1:39:38Thankfully, I have begun to respond to a
- 1:39:41new therapy regimen that is finally
- 1:39:44starting to work. But I want to thank
- 1:39:46each and every person who took the time
- 1:39:49to write, to comment, or to just send
- 1:39:52wellwishes. You cannot know just how
- 1:39:54much they meant to me. In the fall of
- 1:39:572020, I resigned from my position at my
- 1:40:00law firm. I had spent the better part of
- 1:40:02half a decade trying and failing to
- 1:40:05manage the aftermath of what has been 36
- 1:40:09different surgeries since the time I was
- 1:40:12a teenager. When the doctor sat me down
- 1:40:15and told me that I was receiving a
- 1:40:17medical disability rating of 100%,
- 1:40:21I almost couldn't believe it was real.
- 1:40:24Just saying the word disabled out loud
- 1:40:28left me feeling so much shame and as
- 1:40:31though my injuries were somehow my own
- 1:40:34fault. But over time, I began to realize
- 1:40:37how many other people were just like me.
- 1:40:40People who were going through life with
- 1:40:42pain and injuries that they too had to
- 1:40:46learn how to live with. Over time, I
- 1:40:48made the choice to allow my pain to
- 1:40:51blossom into something that has now
- 1:40:54completely changed my life, a
- 1:40:56perspective that has made me more
- 1:40:58empathetic and genuine and
- 1:41:00understanding. And I guess that's why I
- 1:41:03take the time to do this, because I know
- 1:41:05the only reason that I'm here doing what
- 1:41:08I love is because of each of you. But I
- 1:41:12really want to thank these people, many
- 1:41:15of which have supported me for years
- 1:41:17now. People who wait patiently as I
- 1:41:20slowly and methodically create the next
- 1:41:23series of videos. Each and every one of
- 1:41:26you have restored my faith in humanity
- 1:41:29because you don't have to show the
- 1:41:30support that you do. And yet, you do it
- 1:41:33anyway. Now, I realize that to some this
- 1:41:36might seem odd because I know that it's
- 1:41:39not something that most creators in this
- 1:41:41space do, but please understand what I
- 1:41:44mean when I say that I actually really
- 1:41:48truly love all of you for the ways that
- 1:41:51you show kindness and support. It's the
- 1:41:54reason why I continue to push through
- 1:41:56each and every surgery because I know
- 1:42:00that when I return, I will be greeted by
- 1:42:03some of the best people you could
- 1:42:05possibly imagine. So, thank you to the
- 1:42:08Patreon and YouTube supporters. Your
- 1:42:11support is quite literally the reason
- 1:42:13why I am able to do the work that I do
- 1:42:16today. Now, I do actually have some very
- 1:42:19exciting news. Over the last six months,
- 1:42:21while I was recovering, I have been
- 1:42:23writing my very first ever manuscript.
- 1:42:26It's a true crime thriller that is also
- 1:42:29based on my life. It includes what I
- 1:42:31believe to be one of the most shocking
- 1:42:34endings that you will ever read in a
- 1:42:36book. And yes, I understand how bold it
- 1:42:38is to make such an overtly audacious
- 1:42:41statement. But I assure you, when you
- 1:42:44are done reading this book, you'll
- 1:42:46understand exactly why I made that
- 1:42:48claim. Over the next several months, I
- 1:42:50will be publishing segments of the book
- 1:42:52in audio format on my Patreon. So, if
- 1:42:55you like true crime or true crime
- 1:42:57thrillers, you're going to want to come
- 1:42:59join our community. But if that wasn't
- 1:43:02enough, I am also working on an entirely
- 1:43:05new series that will include a very
- 1:43:07special co-host. He is one of the most
- 1:43:10well-known and successful celebrity
- 1:43:13comedians in the world, and he will be
- 1:43:15joining me as a featured guest on this
- 1:43:18channel. And I promise you, even when
- 1:43:20I'm quiet, I'm always working on
- 1:43:23something behind the scenes. Also, I'm
- 1:43:25finishing a new chapter of the Jod Aras
- 1:43:27case because many of you have continued
- 1:43:30to ask for that. And as usual, I'm not
- 1:43:32done with Chris Watts or the other
- 1:43:35myriad of cases I am working on. So,
- 1:43:38when you see what's coming next, I
- 1:43:40promise you, you're going to want to
- 1:43:42subscribe. But again, thank you so much
- 1:43:44for the privilege of being here with you
- 1:43:46today. I've really missed all of you,
- 1:43:49but I'm very happy to be back. There
- 1:43:52really is so much more to come. But as
- 1:43:55always, this has been Behind Criminal
- 1:43:57Minds. We'll see you next time.
