0:10idea like where they went
0:12but just two days later he admitted to
0:14the unthinkable he had murdered all
0:15three of them
0:16since then the story has captivated the
0:19world but what has never been told is
0:20the story of those who shared the last
0:22happy moments with chris and his
0:23daughters
0:24this week we sat down with jeremy and
0:26jennifer lindstrom
0:27close friends with chris and shanann
0:30i've replayed that birthday party in my
0:32head a thousand times
0:33did you guys take a bunch of pictures
0:35that evening oh yeah i have a picture of
0:36him standing in the background of my kid
0:38blowing out a candle
0:39so when you see that picture and you see
0:43him is it a different chris watson you
0:46know
0:46every time i look at that photo his face
0:48changes and now it's like
0:50that's a creepy [ __ ] picture that's
0:53the image that's
0:54in my brain this is their exclusive
0:57energy

1:03i have jennifer and jeremy lindstrom
1:05here with us tonight and we're going to
1:07be talking about the chris watts story
1:09you guys have
1:09intimate details potentially the last
1:12person to actually see chris
1:13and the girls alive is that correct yes
1:17we want to kind of go into your aspect
1:19of the story and and
1:21as it's told in a first person there's a
1:23whole lot of information and detail that
1:25you guys
1:26have some of which i don't think has
1:27actually been shared before and so we
1:29want to kind of dive into this story
1:31um obviously the anniversary is coming
1:33up it's been a big story around the
1:35country
1:36and a lot of people are really
1:37interested in it so
1:39we are very appreciative that you guys
1:41are here to actually hear this story
1:43firsthand from the people that actually
1:45probably saw them last
1:48so introduce yourself i'm jeremy
1:51lindstrom
1:52and how do you know the what i know them
1:55because i uh worked with both of them
1:57okay go into a little bit of that for me
1:59worked with him as in how how what was
2:01your relationship
2:02chris was a very good mechanic uh master
2:04technician
2:05uh shanann was a salesperson
2:09at the dealership i was at uh
2:12met them there they don't have family
2:15that live in colorado neither do we
2:18so we kind of struck off a little bit of
2:20a family friendship
2:21they would come over to our house for
2:23birthday parties
2:24our kids birthday parties father's day
2:28super bowls sporadic football games
2:31because they were big pittsburgh steeler
2:33fans
2:34so and we're from san diego so chargers
2:36fans
2:37if they ever played we were together for
2:40that game
2:41uh they would have parties at their
2:43house
2:44uh for steelers parties and we'd go over
2:46and watch
2:47uh the game with them and you know just
2:50random barbecues throughout the summer
2:52so your initial contact was through work
2:54though
2:55uh-huh absolutely and what about you
2:57jennifer how did how did you know them
2:59through jeremy he he met them both at
3:00work and he said
3:02you know hey there's this nice couple
3:04and they just moved out here and they
3:06don't have any family
3:07and you know we should you know go out
3:10to dinner with them and hang out and
3:11then after that we
3:12just started hanging out with them
3:14regularly ian
3:15so i kind of want to go back and forth
3:17between the two of you because i really
3:18want to set the stage
3:20there's a whole lot of documentation on
3:22the story and
3:23in the documentation the story there is
3:25kind of a
3:26common theme really that
3:29most people didn't think this guy was
3:31capable of this
3:32no absolutely not so i kind of want to
3:34get your perspective
3:36um a when you first met him kind of when
3:39you first got to know the guy and
3:41and and so on and so forth and no shenan
3:44because
3:45part of this story is and you'd said it
3:47before a little bit
3:48uh most people think that you knew him
3:50first but you actually knew shenan
3:52better
3:52yes so i kind of want to get that
3:55perspective on this i want you both
3:57uh we'll start with you kind of how you
4:00knew them first
4:01and then i want to get your perspective
4:02on what you thought of both chris and
4:04shanann
4:05shenan was very detail-oriented very
4:09ocd in a way right chris was
4:13mow the lawn clean out the garage it was
4:15a very
4:16old school traditional family value
4:19in their house chris was a mechanic
4:24shanann was a mother right like
4:27very traditional along a lot of those i
4:30told her one day at work
4:31hey i want to meet with you every monday
4:33at one o'clock let's go through your
4:34customers let's see what i can help you
4:36with let's see what i can do she would
4:37show up in my office
4:38whether i was ready or not with her
4:40phone
4:42my alarm went off she would hold me
4:44accountable
4:45for our meetings and chris was
4:47meticulous with everything
4:50that kid was one of the best mechanics
4:51i've ever seen fixing cars
4:53he had a passion for what he did fixing
4:56cars
4:58at the at the store as a service guy
5:01uh one day for his birthday she bought
5:03him a supercharger for his mustang like
5:07would you think anything different no
5:09she knew what he loved he knew what she
5:11loved
5:12it worked right everything worked
5:15he is a hard-working kid anything she
5:19said to do
5:20he would do it 100 of the time hey
5:23my parents are going to move out here
5:25you're going to fly out to the east
5:27coast
5:27and you're driving the moving truck back
5:30and they're going to fly home he's like
5:32i'm good with that
5:33i'll drive the truck so they can fly
5:34home they don't have to ride in the
5:35truck
5:36right this is the kid that did this
5:40so there's no way shape or form would i
5:43ever believe
5:44this could happen well there's certainly
5:45a consensus with a lot of the stuff
5:47that's out there that that is
5:48that is a very accurate description from
5:51a lot of
5:51people how did you feel about the two
5:55um pretty much the same like shenan was
5:57always
5:58like from the moment i met her she was
5:59always super outgoing and super friendly
6:02she wanted to
6:03you know when we first met her she
6:04didn't have any kids yet and
6:06she was but you could tell that they
6:08really wanted to have kids
6:10and she was really interested in you
6:12know our girls and what
6:13you know what they liked and wanted to
6:16spend time with them
6:18and then um and then she got pregnant
6:21with
6:21her oldest bella and you could tell that
6:24that was
6:24you know always her dream is to have
6:26kids and
6:28exciting moment yes nothing seemed odd
6:31well she wasn't even sure she could have
6:33kids right yeah they
6:34yeah they did have i know some fertility
6:36problems with
6:38um the first two and um that she
6:40discussed with you
6:41yeah absolutely yeah she just always
6:43really wanted to be a mom and she loved
6:46like when she was pregnant she would
6:47always be excited about oh i'm you know
6:50decorating the baby's nursery and this
6:51is the theme i chose and
6:53i got all the clothes ready and they're
6:55all washed and hung up and
6:56but i'm only four months pregnant and so
6:58very type 8 like like jeremy just
7:00described it yeah very organized
7:02and just always like ready to go like
7:03what's what's the next thing
7:05and you know she just always had
7:07something going on that she could
7:09really dive into and be involved in and
7:12and consistently that way every time you
7:14met him oh yeah
7:15absolutely so so tell me how often that
7:18you guys did get together i know we
7:19talked about some football games and
7:21and some parties which we're gonna get
7:22to the the one party which was the night
7:24before but
7:25prior to that did you hang out on a
7:27pretty regular basis
7:29regular as in maybe
7:32six eight times a year okay depending on
7:35stuff if i ever invited them to
7:36something they showed up
7:37yeah it's just if they invited us to
7:40something we showed up
7:41it was just how we we we lived what two
7:44miles from each other
7:46so she but she worked with you did you
7:48develop a relationship with him
7:50yes and no well you know when you go to
7:52parties a lot of times and you're and
7:54you're hanging out the mental kind of go
7:55over to one side women will kind of do
7:57their thing
7:58were you with him one-on-one a lot no
8:00not so much
8:01no he he uh he can he would come over
8:04and his
8:05main goal was my food whatever i
8:08barbecued whatever i
8:10smoked up whatever i cook whatever we
8:12put out
8:13he was like i'm coming over because i
8:14know there's food right right but he
8:16spent a lot of time with the kids
8:18yes um shenan was more hey how can i
8:22help clean
8:22what can i cook what can i do what can i
8:25she needed to be involved in
8:27the party right chris was involved in
8:31the kids and making sure they were taken
8:33care of they were okay
8:35right like that's just how it always
8:37happened hey they wouldn't leave
8:39shenan's like i want to help clean the
8:40kitchen i want to help put the dishes
8:42away i want to do this like
8:44that was normal as normal as could be
8:47with really good friends consistently
8:49every time too 100
8:51100 so there was nothing early
8:54on where you were like wow this is an
8:56interesting type of dynamic relationship
8:58it was actually one of those just really
9:00good old-fashioned school relationships
9:02no it
9:02this was a relationship that people
9:04would probably wish for
9:07with what she demanded in life and his
9:10acceptable personality fit
9:13which is which is really interesting
9:14because it sets up a story that's almost
9:17unfathomable anyway
9:19and we're going to get to that because
9:20we've talked off-camera about this
9:22before
9:23and this is what makes the story so
9:24intriguing to me
9:26um because it is is very difficult to
9:29place and we're going to ask you a lot
9:30of those questions because i know you
9:31feel the same way
9:33so leading up to that night i want to
9:35jump right into
9:36the night before they're at your house
9:39birthday
9:40the birthday describe that party
9:44that's the night before uh extremely
9:46normal
9:47we invited chris because we knew shenan
9:49was out of town she
9:51she they talked and we knew she wasn't
9:53going to be there
9:54now she was in arizona yes did you talk
9:57to her while she was in arizona
9:59um no i did not but my daughter did
10:01because she had actually
10:02babysat the girls the night before the
10:04birthday party
10:05correct so chris could go to a
10:08baseball alleged baseball game right
10:12when which i invited him to the broncos
10:14game because i received tickets
10:16and he told me he couldn't go because
10:18his work would be mad if he didn't use
10:20the tickets
10:20and this was the night before the party
10:22yes yeah this was literally saturday
10:24night yeah
10:25okay so let's just start there so the
10:27night before your party you had invited
10:29him to
10:30the bronco game yeah i invited him a few
10:32days earlier and that's when he texted
10:34me back oh i can't go
10:35i got tickets to the rockies game and
10:38if i don't use them my work's going to
10:40be mad that i didn't use them and i get
10:42that because that's
10:44a hundred percent normal conversation
10:46because if my work gave me their season
10:48tickets for the
10:49uh broncos and they saw they didn't get
10:51scanned in
10:52somehow they know yeah they know they
10:54didn't get used
10:56or if they find out they didn't get used
10:57you're never getting tickets again
10:59yeah so we know in hindsight though that
11:01that he had taken this mistress
11:03yes to the game right but you did not
11:05know that no your friends but did
11:08did they have any other friends that
11:09they were really really close to that
11:11they did a lot of things with
11:12the thrive friends um but we didn't
11:16know any of them but i but i heard
11:18shanann would talk
11:19about them um but you guys had never
11:22heard any
11:22marital problems no one had neither one
11:24of them had discussed any of that
11:26none of the marital none of the
11:27financial none of any of that
11:30on the surface it's just like this is
11:31the perfect family yes
11:33okay so again hindsight we find this out
11:36but you invite him
11:37he says he's gonna go to this game
11:39normal normal excuse
11:40normal everything i'm not i don't think
11:43anything
11:45i have zero radar of this kid ever lying
11:48to me
11:49zero radar right yeah and so when he
11:52said
11:53oh the work's gonna get mad if i don't
11:55use these tickets i get it
11:57i've been there right makes a hundred
12:00percent sense
12:01um and i invited him because i thought i
12:04remembered him saying one time he'd
12:06never actually been to a live nfl game
12:08so i was like
12:08i thought of him right out of the gate
12:10i'm like why not
12:12i know that she's out of town and uh
12:15before she had went to uh even
12:19before she went to north carolina she's
12:20like hey make sure you call him and hang
12:22out with him i don't want him doing
12:23anything dumb while i'm gone
12:25now when did she leave to go to north
12:26carolina that was prior too that was
12:28what five weeks before maybe yeah
12:31okay but the be like more towards the
12:33beginning of the summer
12:34right did we think it was weird she was
12:37leaving for five weeks with the kids to
12:38north carolina sure
12:40yes but shanann's personality
12:44didn't lead down any paths of
12:47marital issues or anything right well
12:49this is why we're getting your story
12:50because you guys have a really
12:52interesting perspective on the story
12:53because again
12:54knowing people being friends now there's
12:56a lot of times in relationships people
12:57don't
12:58tell their personal stuff right sure but
13:01it was odd that she had left but still
13:03in your mind because you'd seen them
13:04interact so well together if i was just
13:07five weeks you thought maybe she's type
13:08a she's going to go do whatever she's
13:10going to do yeah
13:11absolutely okay get me to the the party
13:13the night before
13:15the your son's birthday party yes he
13:18came over like he has they have for the
13:20last
13:21four years right uh they
13:24came over he shows up he's got the
13:26diaper bags he's got the girls
13:28you know and it was normal conversation
13:30with shanann it was hey chris is gonna
13:32bring the girls over of course
13:34nothing out of the blue when
13:38playing in the backyard the girls are
13:40running around playing they're playing
13:42in the little swimming pool
13:43was he on time give or take there was no
13:46time
13:47well i mean he was a little bit later
13:49but he had mentioned
13:50when he got there that the girls had
13:52just woken up from their nap
13:54and and nap was very important shenan
13:57had these girls on a schedule
13:58okay so they were on schedule so nothing
14:00there was odd it's just
14:01they were taking a nap and then they
14:03showed up okay they were
14:04and we uh we're playing water balloons
14:07in the backyard chris was throwing water
14:08balloons
14:10the girls were throwing water balloons
14:12they were all normal normal kids
14:13birthday party
14:15nothing nothing crazy right
14:18do you see why i ask these questions
14:20because on the outside it's extremely
14:22difficult
14:23and because you guys have this is really
14:25intimate knowledge this is why it's
14:26really an interesting topic and i'm
14:29trying to make sure that we don't skip
14:30anything or miss anything
14:32because i think you guys would have
14:33caught it you know him pretty intimately
14:35so he's out there
14:36everything was off yeah say that again
14:38if anything was off absolutely we would
14:40have seen something
14:40correct but it's it he would be out
14:43there playing with the water balloons
14:44because we talked about it earlier where
14:46you're like he would kind of migrate
14:47towards where the kids are at yep
14:49okay so he's out playing with the kids
14:51nothing out of the normal he was a
14:53little bit late but there's a nap we
14:54kind of know that right
14:55well at the same time this is the first
14:57time we've seen one of them without the
14:58other
14:59so we wouldn't have anything to judge
15:02off of
15:03okay but it was still normal like with
15:05the kids
15:07um but you know then when we got to the
15:10birthday cake
15:12he was standing in there he knew that
15:13the girls had allergies
15:15she knows more about what their
15:16allergies were but
15:18he didn't let him have cake he didn't
15:21let him have certain things because he
15:22knew
15:23they had allergies right we got them
15:26popsicles out of the garage because they
15:27could have popsicles
15:29and then shortly after the cake it was
15:31time for them to go home because their
15:32bedtime is
15:34seven ish yeah seven initially again on
15:36schedule
15:37on schedule so let me ask you a question
15:39when you were talking about the birthday
15:41birthday cake when he tells you
15:44they can't have because of their
15:45allergies was it just a sincere i mean
15:48was there anything about that where you
15:50were to be like okay that's odd or
15:52anything like that no because i mean we
15:54knew the kids had allergies
15:56and um he just said you know
16:00i'm sorry they can't have cake and you
16:02could tell that they were
16:03disappointed so that at that point i
16:05said okay well we have
16:06you know just ice pops in the freezer
16:09outside
16:10and was the conversation the same
16:11conversation you'd always had with them
16:13yes
16:13that's what i was going to say every
16:14birthday party has been the same
16:16they can't have the cake yeah yeah yep
16:20so it was not abnormal
16:23by any means yeah i've replayed that
16:25birthday party in my head a thousand
16:27times
16:28since then just to see like did was
16:31there something that we missed that you
16:32know we couldn't
16:33we haven't had his birthday party in our
16:35house since then yeah
16:37well so one of the things that that i
16:40certainly wanted to ask is obviously at
16:42a birthday party you're taking pictures
16:44did you guys take a bunch of pictures
16:45that evening oh yeah and
16:48tell me anything about the pictures was
16:49there anything about the pictures that
16:51that stood out to be different
16:52no no well well here's so
16:56in my mind and i can and i have the
16:58picture and i can send it to you now
17:00somebody
17:00tried to steal it off my facebook page
17:03from another media source right
17:06and i had them take it down and they did
17:07they did take it down
17:10but you have i have a picture of him
17:12standing in the background of my kid
17:13blowing out a candle
17:16right and it's probably the most
17:22awkward lack of better words just
17:26that's the image that's in my brain
17:30of him blowing out his candles and chris
17:32standing behind him and the girl
17:33standing on the side with bella looking
17:35up and over trying to watch him blow out
17:37his candles
17:38right that's my last image of them so
17:41when you see that picture
17:43and you see him is it a different chris
17:46watson you knew
17:48you keep looking at it and his face
17:49changes right every time i look at that
17:51photo his face changes and now it's like
17:54that's a creepy [ __ ] picture yeah
17:56right like
17:58for real he truly looks evil in that
18:00picture yes
18:01truly in the beginning absolutely not
18:06now absolutely right because
18:09yeah like and the way his eyes he's just
18:11like slightly looking up at like
18:13towards the camera just with like like
18:16no soul in his eyes
18:17did you have the same visceral response
18:19as jeremy did yeah when you saw that
18:20picture yeah
18:21and it was the same too when we saw him
18:24being in
18:25his infamous porch interview after
18:27everything happened
18:28right he looked and sounded different in
18:32that interview like it wasn't
18:34him like it i mean it was him obviously
18:37but like he looked and sounded different
18:42because we're going to get to this a
18:42little bit because you haven't kept up
18:44quite as much as she has right
18:45and i'm probably one of three supporters
18:47that thought that news interview was not
18:50what everybody else saw right when
18:52you're inside the bubble and you don't
18:54want to believe things
18:56you still don't see things well i'm
18:58going to get to that because i'm going
18:59to really hammer that hard because
19:01especially with uh i mean you were there
19:04you were at the house but we're i'm
19:05going to bring that up in just a second
19:07so as with anybody that goes to a
19:09birthday party or anything there comes
19:10that moment where it's time to go
19:12and and obviously shenan's not there who
19:14would have cleaned up and
19:15and made sure all that happened was
19:18there any anxiety anything or did was
19:20the departure also
19:22what you would consider normal extremely
19:24normal
19:26was it you know come on girls let's get
19:28in the car i mean what what was
19:30that it was bed times coming up right
19:32yeah
19:33we know that we know shenan's schedule
19:35like she has a schedule and
19:37if you tell us it's her schedule we're
19:39going to say yeah okay
19:41yeah right that's okay right and we
19:44don't
19:45yeah well and they stayed they stayed a
19:47long time too it's not like they were
19:48there and left in 30 minutes
19:50well that's what i want to know the
19:51party started kind of when how long were
19:53they there
19:53probably for three hours three or four
19:56hours
19:57yeah they were there and that would be
19:58normal yeah they were there for the
20:00playing and the
20:01eating and the cake and the presents
20:03like they're in
20:04all you know like in during a party you
20:06take a series of pictures like of the
20:08kids playing
20:09of the presents in the cake they're i
20:11mean they're in all of those
20:12events that happened at the party and
20:14then
20:15um and then they you know just and he
20:18doesn't drink or anything
20:20right so they just said all right well
20:21we've got to get going
20:23so he had nothing to drink no he doesn't
20:25he doesn't drink
20:26not his thing yeah very very very
20:29fascinating because again this is kind
20:31of the story i think that a lot of
20:32people have never heard before right
20:34and that that's a it's a real
20:36interesting thing because again when you
20:38i mean we can all put ourselves in that
20:39situation to know what is coming down
20:42the pipeline here
20:43you would think absolutely think that
20:46there would be something out of place
20:48or something not right yeah i mean
20:50there's no way in my brain that this kid
20:52said hey
20:53can't wait to marry that girl so we can
20:55have kids and kill them all
20:56yeah right that didn't happen like yeah
21:00that
21:01that's not how that works i guess like
21:04are you convinced that
21:06i mean obviously i think we know through
21:08you know what
21:09investigations have taken place that um
21:12it was pre-planned he knew he was going
21:14to do that
21:15based on all the stuff i've heard since
21:17then apparently yes
21:20yeah right that's kind of the consensus
21:23how can anybody
21:24freaking go to a kid's birthday party
21:26knowing that
21:28hey hurry up why would you protect the
21:31cake like
21:32all that [ __ ] goes through my head right
21:34right why would you say
21:35why would you care that they're allergic
21:37to something
21:38if you're about to take them home and
21:40freaking do what you did
21:42yeah that doesn't work right it doesn't
21:45which is kind of that gap of speculation
21:47did the guy really intend to do it while
21:49he was at the birthday party did he
21:51according to his post interviews on his
21:53post interviews that i've seen
21:56it was weeks before i i believe the kid
22:01going maybe i'm going too far into the
22:02story but
22:04when he got with this other girl and got
22:07to go
22:07camping and got to go to the shelby
22:09museum which he's a big ford mechanic
22:12right yeah that's his passion was ford
22:14mechanics
22:15his passion wasn't the oil field it was
22:18the ford mechanic
22:19it was going camping going to the shelby
22:22museum going to
22:24all these moab and everywhere else he
22:26got to go in that five weeks period a
22:28period of time
22:29probably is what transformed his brain
22:32to a lifestyle that he didn't have
22:35that he didn't know existed and then
22:37wanted
22:38yeah i mean there's there is a lot of
22:40speculation to that and
22:41and kind of how that transition went i
22:43mean there are certainly a ton of
22:44interviews
22:45i at true talks we don't want to you
22:47know we don't want to put everybody
22:48else's perspective into this because
22:50it's really about you guys telling the
22:51story but
22:52there is certainly some perspective that
22:54it that it had been going on for a while
22:56the thought process was there and then
22:58obviously we did it
22:59that's why it's so interesting to know
23:00that you guys saw them the night
23:03uh before and that was what was really
23:04interesting um
23:06one of the things you want to talk about
23:07is again when you hear that
23:10um your daughter babysit for them yes uh
23:13that's got to be a little chilling too
23:15yeah yeah well in her story was
23:18when she babysat the night for the
23:21baseball
23:22game right when
23:25she came home she had mentioned the
23:28pantry was a mess
23:30like the house was a mess it was not
23:32clean anymore
23:33it was not organized anymore there was
23:36zero regard for
23:39everything that shenandoah's at the
23:40house
23:42right she's like i've never seen that
23:43house that dirty stuff was everywhere
23:46and that is interesting because that's
23:48the whole reason why i wanted to bring
23:50that up is
23:51there was something awry that as far as
23:54that goes
23:56and your daughter noticed that right and
23:58brought that to your attention so we
24:00know that man it is really structured
24:02how they live their life
24:03but yet she noticed that there was
24:05something not right
24:07right yeah and and it was there anything
24:09else that she said
24:11yes it was about the allergies
24:14so when i picked her up she said that
24:17you know everything went good
24:18she said that i said well how did
24:20bedtime go
24:21because i know if she would to be
24:23babysitting her brother
24:25you know bedtime wouldn't go good he
24:27wouldn't want to go to sleep and
24:28um but i know you know they have a very
24:31regimented schedule
24:32so she said that cece went to bed
24:37pretty easily on time but then bella
24:40went to bed and then came downstairs and
24:43said she wasn't ready
24:44she wasn't tired yet wasn't ready to go
24:45to bed and through some
24:48conversation that she had with bella
24:49bella had mentioned that
24:52her sister can't have coconuts and that
24:54she does have coconuts that she won't be
24:56able to see her anymore
24:58so that really stood out to my daughter
25:00and she
25:02thought that was kind of sad that she
25:04you know
25:05had thought that in her little mind but
25:09possibly someone had told her if she has
25:10an allergic reaction to it that they
25:12could die or something like that yeah
25:14so it's probably just so that she would
25:16know to you know help watch out so yeah
25:18she doesn't eat the wrong foods and
25:20but then you know eventually bella
25:22settled down and went to sleep
25:23um another strange thing was that chris
25:27when she got there
25:28chris ordered pizza and said um the
25:31girls have already had all their
25:32medications because my daughter was a
25:34little worried like am i going to have
25:35to
25:36give them medications at certain times
25:38you know am i going to have to give them
25:40nebulizer treatments because they had
25:41asthma so she was worried about
25:43the medications and giving them the
25:45right medications but he said no they're
25:47all good i gave them their medications
25:49you just have to feed them um and put
25:51them to bed they were already in their
25:52pajamas
25:53um chris didn't leave his phone number
25:56with her
25:57and she didn't leave her phone number
25:59with him it wasn't like a conversation
26:01um and he didn't like contact jeremy
26:05or any of us to ask how the girls were
26:07doing um but shenan who was in arizona
26:10contacted our daughter to check on the
26:11girls and asked her to
26:14send pictures of them so shanann must
26:17have known that he was at the game
26:18yeah she knew yeah she knew that she was
26:20babysitting and that he was at the game
26:21but she was
26:22the one that was checking in on how
26:25things were going with the girls not
26:26crazy that's kind of still par for the
26:27course right because she was always the
26:29one that was going to make sure
26:30everything was in order and detail yeah
26:32so again not probably not too out of the
26:35ordinary for their lifestyle
26:37yeah but i i guess he assumed if there
26:39was some sort of emergency that she
26:40would just
26:41contact me because i was you know at
26:43home right down the street
26:44so so after the after your guys's party
26:48then we know that fateful night right so
26:50i want to go through
26:52when you first heard about it i mean
26:55obviously you're at this party
26:56they're there the girls are there he's
26:58there the girls are with him
27:00you go to bed that evening was it the
27:02next morning right
27:04that we found out yeah the next that was
27:06the next night the next night
27:07i was sitting on the couch i came home
27:09from work uh
27:11watching tv looking at facebook on my
27:13phone and i noticed that
27:15there was a post that the girls were
27:16missing all three of them and i didn't
27:20i kind of looked at it and then i'm like
27:23okay
27:23that right my mindset is not that this
27:26is the family that something
27:28would happen to and i had seen it again
27:30and i looked over at her and i said
27:32i think shanana the girls are missing
27:36and i don't know if that means so i'm
27:38going to text chris
27:39and i texted him and this is the next
27:41night
27:42next night so the way the story goes
27:46is that the friend who dropped her off
27:48at i think it was 1 48
27:49a.m uh they'd just come back from a
27:51conference
27:52um she'd miss an ob gyn appointment and
27:55the friend was actually who called the
27:57police
27:58and called chris as well which is which
28:01is interesting because
28:02we've discussed this case before as we
28:04were kind of preparing and
28:06um we both were kind of like you know
28:08who
28:09really follows up that quickly i mean i
28:11don't think we would have but obviously
28:13a good friend of hers
28:14probably knowing that the type a
28:16personality if they didn't answer that
28:17first time then
28:19something's going on so that was kind of
28:21the initial
28:22setup that was going on but you guys
28:24didn't know any of that was taking place
28:26but after i knew she was getting home
28:30in those two days right like yeah we
28:32knew that much
28:33when you guys heard that part of the
28:35story was that was that
28:37shocking at all for you uh knowing that
28:39the neighbor would be like hey
28:41she didn't answer this text she missed
28:42obgyn appointment well my
28:45my instant reaction is how does
28:47somebody's friend
28:48know that they missed a doctor's
28:50appointment
28:51nobody's doctor ever called me because
28:53one of my buddies missed an appointment
28:55right
28:56that's my mindset of things what they
28:59talked about in arizona or what they did
29:01in arizona or
29:02conversation from the airport i don't
29:04know any of that right
29:05yeah who knows if there wasn't a
29:08conversation that was like hey
29:11if you can't if you don't hear from me
29:13right like i don't know
29:14now that everything i know later brings
29:17me back to some of this
29:19right which is all speculation in my
29:21head right
29:22but when i followed this through
29:26and i'm like there's no way he did
29:27anything who who calls the cops
29:31after dropping somebody off at 2 am or
29:33whatever
29:34at 10 a.m because they missed a doctor's
29:36appointment
29:38nobody's doctor calls that somebody else
29:40to say hey
29:41your friend missed an appointment right
29:43right that's my brain
29:44yeah no i kind of went down that road
29:46too and then what is interesting is but
29:48we're talking now this is like noon that
29:50the police have showed up
29:51they're they're talking about but then
29:53it hits the airwaves that night
29:55well and at the end of the day good for
29:56her right right good for her for
29:58absolutely wherewithal to
30:01know that something's wrong right
30:05because we knew them and we were close
30:07to them and we didn't
30:08speculate anything would ever be wrong
30:10yeah but so good for her right
30:13but you you then hear this information
30:15how and when
30:16on facebook at about 8 30 at night
30:20and i looked at her and i said i'm
30:22texting chris hey is everything okay
30:24what was the initial message that you
30:25saw on facebook
30:27yeah the girls were missing help find my
30:29girls right from her
30:31from shenan's mom right from shenan's
30:33mom okay
30:34right and i was like i'm texting chris
30:38hey is everything okay right and he
30:40texts me back oh i'm sick to my stomach
30:42blah blah blah can you give me a
30:44timeline on that about what time that
30:45was
30:46let's just say 8 30 and about 8 30 in 30
30:50seconds
30:51okay i texted chris but by 8 31 i was
30:54already in my car
30:56driving to his house right like what the
30:59hell is going on here
31:00i have flashlights in my car who are we
31:02going to look for
31:04or did they go on a walk because they
31:07have a pool in their area did they go to
31:09use the bathroom in the pool because the
31:10girls had to go to the bathroom did they
31:11get stuck in a bathroom
31:13i'm not leaving them overnight stuck
31:16somewhere
31:17right right that was my initial let's go
31:20right and so i went over to the house
31:22his door's wide open he's on the phone
31:24with somebody
31:26um i go in the house and i'm like what
31:28the hell is going on
31:29it's like i don't know i don't know
31:31where they went her said she was gonna
31:33maybe stay at a friend's house like oh i
31:35got all the [ __ ]
31:36okay i wanna i wanna stop you right
31:38there though
31:40and again this is in hindsight yep you
31:43see chris at the party
31:44and even before yeah was there anything
31:47different
31:48about that engagement no okay
31:51nope when i when i went into the house
31:54i'm sitting at this table he's on the
31:56phone with someone and it's like
31:58where the hell are they i'm like hey
32:00where do we go where do we go look
32:02what do we do and he says oh the cops
32:04told me to stay here i don't know what
32:05i'm looking for
32:07um they told me just to go to bed and
32:11we'll do this tomorrow and whatever
32:13whatever right he was just saying things
32:14and i'm just like okay i don't want to
32:16push him too far i don't want to bug him
32:17i don't want to
32:20not be supportive by any means
32:23and so maybe 30 minutes goes by or so
32:26and then i'm like okay well i
32:28guess i'll go home right and when i
32:30walked out to my truck
32:32my phone rings let me back up while i'm
32:36in the house
32:37she's texting my phone where's her car
32:41are the car seats in the car where's
32:42their medications
32:44all right right all the mother so you're
32:46thinking about this
32:47cause i'm like maybe they got into a
32:49fight and she
32:50left and went back to north carolina or
32:53something along those lines
32:54right but then he's like no all the
32:56stuff is here and
32:58that really did not sit well because i'm
33:01like okay so she would
33:03have to like get an uber that had car
33:05seats in it
33:06and already have medication like i'm
33:08trying to logically think like okay
33:10she she left and went back to north
33:12carolina that's where you knew her type
33:14a personality yeah
33:14i'm like that's totally what must have
33:17happened
33:18and she just needed time to cool down so
33:22but the stuff being there was really
33:25and then to come to find out her purse
33:26was there her wallet was there
33:28her phone was there correct so that like
33:31that was really the kicker right there
33:32now did you relay that information sure
33:35that the person so i asked them i said
33:36where's their medication where's their
33:38medicine
33:38he said oh she has more more than enough
33:41medication yeah
33:42than we have at the house did you go
33:44inside the garage and see the car with
33:45the car seats no
33:46he just told you that i didn't want to i
33:49guess in my
33:50my subconscious did not want me to
33:53attack anything right yeah nor was i
33:56thinking i should
33:59i asked him straight up i said is the
34:00car in the garage he said yes
34:02car seats yes where's our phone it was
34:05on the counter
34:06cops took it right he answered my
34:08question so i didn't have any reasons to
34:11and still your radar is like this is the
34:14same guy that i've known
34:15i'm thinking you're the cool calm
34:18calm headed guy and i know her well
34:21enough to know that if you try to screw
34:23her over she's taking these kids and
34:24she's getting the hell out of here
34:26yeah right because her personality says
34:27so yeah and so when he said well
34:30we got an argument and she said she was
34:32just going to take the kids and go
34:34to her friend's house i'm thinking okay
34:35that's probably it right because nobody
34:38comes home from work and says hey by the
34:41way
34:42you know your best friends you're not
34:44best friends but your friends
34:46they just killed their family but at any
34:48point
34:49but any point in your mind it's like
34:50well number one that friend would have
34:52to live
34:52close right and then certainly by then
34:55the cops would have found
34:57they probably would have called every
34:58friend that they had sure did you get a
35:00call from the police i did
35:02so when i left his house i go outdoor
35:05shots i'm standing on his porch i look
35:07down there's a dead bird on the floor
35:09and i'm thinking why is that bird on the
35:11ground dead right
35:13it doesn't happen i said yeah that's not
35:15a sign i'm leaving
35:16right right away i'm like yeah that's
35:18not a sign of anything i'm leaving
35:20and i'm walking to my truck and my phone
35:22rings and it's the frederick police
35:25department
35:25calling my phone hey how's it going this
35:28is
35:29blah i forget the name but at frederick
35:32police department
35:33um do you know chris and shannon i said
35:35yeah i'm at his house right now
35:37and he goes oh should i call you back
35:39right out of the gate should i call you
35:40back
35:40this is a bad time i said i'm actually
35:42getting in my truck right now
35:44and he's like oh okay you know we start
35:47talking and
35:48he just asked a few questions and he
35:50goes hey i'm gonna i need your
35:51your uh email address and he asked
35:54personal information right
35:55and he's like i may be contacting you in
35:57the next few days if i have any other
35:59questions blah blah blah
36:00right do you mind disclosing what
36:02questions that they ask
36:04normal how do you know them um
36:09what's your my cell phone number he's he
36:12called it but he wanted to write it down
36:14um and i asked him i said do you guys
36:16have her phone yeah we're going through
36:18all the phone numbers on our phone we're
36:19just calling them all
36:20i don't have any questions he didn't
36:21have major questions
36:24of anything it was general information
36:27just
36:27hey i just want you to uh
36:31have my phone or uh i want to have your
36:33phone number i want to have your email
36:34address we may be calling you
36:36um you're at the house right now yes um
36:40what'd you guys talk about nothing i'm
36:42just looking for where these kids are
36:44right where shenan is and then he's like
36:46okay well thanks for
36:47talking to me and that was it so nothing
36:50about
36:51you know when did you get there what are
36:52you doing there how long have you been
36:54there
36:54they weren't investigating anything
36:56right they were just going through phone
36:57numbers
36:58yeah yeah i think at that point they
36:59didn't even know what they were
37:01up against or looking for
37:04one would think that right yeah you
37:07would think that that
37:08that anytime something like that happens
37:09the first thing you do is everybody's a
37:11suspect i would think sure and
37:13because i want to get to that a little
37:14bit later too i want to talk to you a
37:16little bit about what your experience
37:18was with that and
37:18if you felt like you had um you know
37:21there was any type of
37:22really questioning of you like what was
37:25your role in this thing right
37:26um so you again you you then
37:30you hear this news you you go home what
37:32happens after you go home
37:34are you still texting him no
37:37nope i didn't text him at all uh the
37:40rest of the night
37:42went to work the next day are you
37:43texting shanann
37:45no oh i did texted shenan
37:48and i said hey where are you yeah and i
37:51got nothing
37:51back right um i said and i'm looking at
37:55facebook and i'm looking at different
37:56things
37:57and i texted her again i said hey dude
37:59if you're somewhere just tell your mom
38:02right tell your mom where you're at
38:04because your mom's worried
38:06shitless yeah um just let her know
38:10nothing and uh
38:14there was there was things that would
38:16happen like
38:19because the cops had certain things like
38:22on facebook and stuff like that they had
38:24access to her account and everything
38:26you would see where it looked like she
38:28was gonna respond to something
38:31but then no responses like when you text
38:33somebody and they text you back if you
38:34have an iphone
38:35it shows a little cloud that they're
38:36typing right there was different things
38:38where it shows that the
38:39messages were read not from my phone but
38:42from facebook
38:44because i messaged her on facebook and
38:47i'm like i don't know what to do do you
38:50guys mind opening up uh
38:51this for just a second but you get home
38:54that night
38:55um after talking to him and so sorry do
38:58you mind telling me what your guys's
39:00conversation was
39:02essentially it was the conversation of
39:06i was at the house uh yes her phone was
39:10there
39:10which she knew most of that the cops
39:12called me on the way home
39:14um they just wanted to
39:18ask me if i knew the family and that i
39:20was there right like
39:23i don't know all the details of all that
39:24part but then it was like where the hell
39:27did they go
39:28and both of us look at each other and
39:29it's like she left
39:31right she left with the kids well and
39:33you also
39:35found out kind of an important piece of
39:37information while you were over there
39:39as i'm grilling him with questions when
39:40he comes home that's what i want to know
39:42what do you like
39:42ramping up questions yeah because i'm
39:44like trying i'm like trying to make
39:46sense of all this
39:47and he mentioned that chris said that
39:50they were having marital problems and
39:52that was the first time
39:53the last time you know that we saw them
39:56all in person together she was newly
39:59pregnant
40:00they were excited never heard of any
40:02marital problems
40:04so he said yeah they've been you know
40:06having disagreements and whatnot
40:09so immediately i thought okay
40:12she left she took the girls she left
40:15having issues
40:16you were 100 convinced in your mind that
40:18they just left
40:19well that's what i was trying to
40:20convince myself of but
40:22the whole piece of the phone the car
40:26seats the medication
40:27like my mind couldn't reconcile that
40:29part of those things
40:31being gone so i'm like okay shanann's
40:34really really
40:35smart she's really organized so
40:38maybe she got it she left that phone and
40:40she got a new phone like i start
40:42thinking about you know movie type stuff
40:44like
40:44but you went through a lot of scenarios
40:46of which her being murdered by her
40:48husband was not one of them no
40:49yeah absolutely like that and then and
40:52then
40:53one that even went through my head at
40:56some point was
40:57maybe their problems were really bad and
41:00maybe
41:00she took her life and the girls like
41:03maybe it was a murder-suicide
41:05that way that's what i was that was like
41:07the worst case scenario in my head
41:09like maybe they had such a bad fight and
41:11there was going to be a custody and
41:13she was pregnant she was stressed out
41:15she just couldn't handle it anymore
41:17like that was my worst case scenario
41:19which is what is so interesting to me
41:21because obviously we know the outcome of
41:23the story
41:24and but that didn't cross your mind
41:27no never yeah and then as time started
41:30going on
41:31and you know he started doing interviews
41:34and
41:34you know he started becoming a you know
41:36suspect in the media
41:38well so we're gonna where i want to get
41:39to that so
41:41this he comes home that's that you guys
41:44have this conversation of trying to
41:45really figure out what might happen it
41:47might have happened
41:48and you probably were trying to even be
41:50helpful like okay what can we do
41:51to do what we've got to do to help help
41:54find them
41:55um tell me when the next
41:58basic communication happened where you
42:01found out information that
42:02that he was doing these interviews or
42:04whatever yeah the following day so
42:05tuesday the
42:06the colorado bureau bureau of
42:09investigations
42:10came to our house okay and they could
42:13they had called previously and they said
42:15hey we want to come talk to you and come
42:16talk to your daughter
42:18they're trying to put together she
42:20babysat
42:22right yeah they're just trying to you
42:23know get together the timeline
42:25they're trying to put their timeline
42:26together but you guys would have had to
42:28but you guys would have had to have been
42:30on the top of that list because if she
42:31had all these
42:33these multi-level 100 percent because
42:34you guys are the last people to be with
42:36them
42:38did they know that already oh i'm sure
42:40well
42:41yes because my conversation was my
42:44daughter babysat
42:47the kids okay the night before they were
42:49at our house for the birthday party
42:51right now they're missing yeah right
42:54okay her
42:55her mindset was why the [ __ ] did he do
42:57that to us i mean i guess that's later
42:59in life
42:59later in conversation but
43:03why this nutshell to bring us into this
43:07bubble right but until tuesday
43:11the cbi comes over
43:14we sat with one in our uh living room
43:17and the other one was like hey i want to
43:18go talk to your daughter in a different
43:20room
43:20closed door about the night of uh
43:23babysitting
43:25right and we're like okay that's fine
43:27right we're trying to help
43:28prior to them showing up somebody else
43:32showed up
43:32because they needed pictures of what the
43:34kids were wearing
43:36and she had pictures of uh when she
43:38babysat the kids what they were wearing
43:40would they go to sleep with what they
43:41wake up with
43:42like they were detailing
43:45three nights ahead of the birthday party
43:48night right yeah they're looking for
43:49missing persons
43:50uh-huh because i know in in some of the
43:52research that we've done um
43:54the police actually even showed him a
43:56picture of a woman and two kids in a
43:57walmart and they were asking if
43:59if they those were his kids now i think
44:02there were some other psychological
44:03things they may have been doing at the
44:04time
44:04but um they were actually at this point
44:06still looking for a missing person
44:08yeah obviously you guys are on the top
44:09of the list which is why they probably
44:10called you somewhat similar first
44:13at any point in that time was were you
44:16were you still just trying to picture
44:18what could possibly have happened
44:20or now that you're actually getting
44:21questioned by police uh
44:23and we're talking now the zero stuff
44:25when cbi came to our house and were
44:27talking to us
44:29they kind of said the comment of
44:32there's other people who already have an
44:34outcome
44:36right yeah i'm assuming
44:39her family her family right they already
44:42but they probably knew a lot more about
44:44what was going on between the two of
44:46them than we did
44:47right so i'm still just i
44:51was a supporter of chris not doing this
44:54and there's no way in help that that's
44:58what the outcome was when they when they
45:00questioned your daughter
45:01what were they asking her about like
45:04normal stuff like
45:05you know how long have you known them
45:07what was your relationship with them
45:09and then tell us tell us about just like
45:11walk us through your night
45:13of when you babysat was anything out of
45:16the ordinary
45:17did anything eventful happen what they
45:20were wearing
45:21yeah yeah the night that she left they
45:24took pictures of her phone that had
45:25pictures
45:26of what they were wearing and they
45:27showed her pictures of clothes
45:30right which that would have had to have
45:32been
45:33pretty pretty intense for your daughter
45:35too at the time
45:36yeah were was she were you guys talking
45:39to her about
45:40the disappearance missing was she fully
45:42aware of what was going on
45:43yeah and at any moment did she come to
45:46either one of you and say
45:48mom i think i know what happened dad i
45:50think i know what happened or was she
45:51also
45:51under the influence or under the thought
45:54process of
45:55of um you know where do they go wonder
45:57if they left
45:58did she ever say anything potentially of
46:01the outcome that that
46:02involved no no we were all in the same
46:06thought process
46:06of what what is happening like
46:10is is this even real like it like none
46:12of it seemed real
46:13right and then you know their new their
46:15faces start getting plastered all over
46:17the news
46:18and it's then it's really like what is
46:21happening
46:21where where are they thank you for
46:23leading me directly into that
46:25so when you see this news
46:28interview that he does i feel like this
46:30isn't even real right now it's like a
46:31nightmare that i just can't wake up from
46:34tell me about that that
46:37that was weird because since we know
46:39chris we know that he's
46:41he's not an emotional type of guy he's
46:44very
46:44passive so i know a lot of people were
46:47saying
46:48like he wasn't showing any emotion like
46:51what's wrong with him
46:52and at that point we kind of just
46:55brushed it off as
46:56well that's chris like i know his family
46:58is missing and this is a crazy time
47:01but he's not the type to be freaking out
47:03and showing emotion
47:05so that's kind of what we thought like
47:07it kind of looked like he did look a
47:09little
47:10awkward and obviously he's a very
47:11awkward person but that's but
47:13yeah but that's how he is and then but
47:16then looking back
47:17in hindsight like watching it again
47:19after knowing what happened like
47:21he he did he had really weird body
47:23language he kept
47:24chuckling he i don't know he was just
47:28really so after a little bit too
47:31about it after the fact you noticed
47:33things that you were like okay yeah i
47:34didn't see that before
47:35yeah because one of one of the things um
47:37i mean obviously there's a lot of people
47:38who've done a lot of stuff on this dr
47:40phil was one of them that that did a
47:41whole uh
47:42presentation with it and you know he was
47:44using pronouns instead of the names and
47:46a lot of things that make sense kind of
47:48in a hindsight 2020 thing
47:50because it's a big story it's it's the
47:51unfathomable and and again
47:53i can't tell you how much i appreciate
47:55you guys sharing this because there's
47:56somebody's going to benefit from this
47:58there's going to be something that that
47:59comes out that you know
48:01this stuff does happen and it's real and
48:04uh
48:04but what is so intriguing is the way you
48:07guys have described him and also even
48:09the that's chris that's the the kind of
48:12demeanor that he does i think that's
48:13really a fascinating thing
48:16but now you are seeing these things you
48:18have to be hearing from friends
48:20that this guy did it oh yeah well just
48:23reading the comments
48:24on the news after his interview
48:28everyone after that interview thought
48:31that he did it
48:33they had him pegged because they had no
48:34idea who he was yeah they didn't know
48:35who he was and we're like
48:37no like he still didn't sway you it's
48:40different when you're inside the bubble
48:41correct we're like and i had people
48:43calling me from
48:45where i worked before that also worked
48:47with him like what the hell did she do
48:50right everybody was like not surprised
48:53that she would take the kids and run
48:55yeah
48:56not surprised of like just
49:00everybody was pointing at her absolutely
49:04taking the kids and running yeah like
49:06because nobody
49:08would peg him as having the balls if you
49:11will
49:12yeah to do something that drastic
49:15so even though you're hearing all this
49:18this you know the comments and
49:19everything you guys still
49:20were on the i mean she just laughed
49:23because they're still it's the same
49:24thing it's there's no way
49:26that kid is capable of doing that right
49:29like there's no way like the kid
49:32wouldn't
49:32smash a fly at a barbecue right that was
49:35the
49:36mentality he carried around and the dad
49:39he loved those kids he
49:40loved her he loved his world
49:44with them in it right yeah he was
49:48content
49:50so it seemed yeah with everything right
49:53which is just incredibly fascinating
49:55let's fast forward then to
49:57now he's getting arrested now so
50:00wednesday
50:02wednesday we're sitting hanging out with
50:04producer chad
50:05obviously everybody already knows we're
50:06neighbors but we're sitting outside and
50:09just hanging out and it's kind of
50:11a dull hangout a really dull hangout
50:14because there's a lot of things in the
50:17air where are these kids where are these
50:18girls like
50:20where is everybody right and my daughter
50:23gets a text from her friend who lives in
50:25the neighborhood
50:26hey i think the dad just got put in the
50:27police car i think the dad
50:29got this and we looked at each other
50:31like there's no way
50:33we're not ready to accept anything other
50:35than that no no she left
50:37right that's the only thing that my
50:38brain will allow right
50:40is that she took the kids she left and
50:42they're safe
50:43right and
50:46the news comes on at about nine ten
50:48o'clock
50:49we're sitting in bed we're watching tv
50:51and chad texts me
50:55he checks me he texted me holy [ __ ]
50:58right or whatever he said what the [ __ ]
51:01and we had just saw it too
51:05we have breaking new details in just the
51:07last few minutes contact 7 investigates
51:09is learning new details about the case
51:11of that missing pregnant mother we want
51:13to bring in denver 7 investigative
51:14reporter jace larson who's learning from
51:16top sources
51:17more about this investigation and the
51:19husband's involvement jace
51:20tonight we have learned from two law
51:22enforcement sources who are close to the
51:24investigation
51:25they tell me that this husband has
51:27confessed to killing his family and he
51:29is now detained
51:31and it's like holy [ __ ] he killed him
51:33right yeah and i'm sitting there i got
51:35the blank stare
51:36on my face i'm not an emotional person
51:39girls obviously all start crying she
51:41starts crying they start crying
51:43by the time i get to the door he's
51:46already at my door
51:48and he's got whiskey in his hand and
51:50it's like looks like we're standing on
51:51the porch for a minute
51:53right because i'm trying to process
51:56i was at this fucker's house two days
52:00ago
52:01trying to help find these people is this
52:03real is this not real is this real is
52:06this not real
52:06it's the way my brain goes right yeah
52:09and
52:09ah oddly as it can be
52:14i get up in the morning obviously
52:16there's a lot of
52:18emotion that goes on overnight right
52:20right
52:21i get up in the morning i'm driving to
52:23work and
52:25the black and yellow [ __ ] song comes
52:27on of all
52:28songs that can come on black and yellow
52:30knowing that they're
52:32pittsburgh steeler fans and that's what
52:35i lost it
52:36right like i just broke down crying all

52:40i'm sitting at work i'm sitting at my
52:42desk and they're like why are the [ __ ]
52:43are you here
52:45because they all knew because of uh
52:48tuesday
52:50and they saw stuff on the news they knew
52:51i was friends with him they
52:53you know a lot of people are like oh
52:54he's your neighbor he's he wasn't my
52:56neighbor
52:57but he lived close by yeah and i'm
52:59sitting at work and they're like why are
53:00you here
53:01right now like this isn't normal none of
53:04this is okay
53:06and i'm just trying to be normal yeah
53:10because it hasn't set in all the way and
53:13so i was at work maybe 10 minutes before
53:15i was
53:16heading back home yeah and they were
53:18just like call me if you need anything
53:20like and just
53:23still trying to process it right where
53:26were your emotions at at that point
53:28oh just completely in shock in shock
53:31like i cannot believe this is happening
53:34and that we're a part of this
53:36and so like
53:39close knit a part of it and
53:42yeah just complete shock and not know
53:45what to do at that point yeah
53:47no and this this whole time like like
53:50our brains
53:50wouldn't let us go there that they were
53:54not okay and then to find out that yeah
53:57they're all
53:58dead and he's the one that killed them
54:02yeah and that they were just at our
54:04house and then
54:05he was just at his house and had normal
54:08conversation like that
54:10just just trying to like wrap our heads
54:12around it was
54:13a lot to process these kids that that
54:15you're around and taking care of and
54:17giving popsicles to
54:18yeah just literally not long before
54:21yeah unbelievable i mean just
54:23unbelievable when did it set in for you
54:26though that it was real
54:27and that you know at some point i want
54:30to go back to that picture
54:33that when you saw the kind of that
54:36evilness or something in that picture
54:37when was that was that after you had
54:39heard
54:39it was for me i'm sorry that's okay yeah
54:42either one
54:43for me it was months later
54:46right because i'm still on board of
54:50okay now i need to know how this
54:52happened like how
54:55and then the story comes out of well
54:58i went into the room and she was
55:01strangling the kids or whatever and i'm
55:03like okay
55:04so i'm still a little bit on board i'm
55:06still a little bit on board i'm still a
55:08little bit on board
55:09you know i was strung along with
55:12the hope of the reality wasn't what the
55:15reality was
55:16right if that makes sense like okay okay
55:19that makes more sense to me
55:21right it doesn't make sense but it makes
55:24a little bit
55:25more sense because if she's that ocd and
55:29she's that type a crazy
55:32personality maybe
55:36maybe you said that you wanted a divorce
55:38and she says you're not taking the kids
55:40and this is all from
55:42news stories back in history of how this
55:45thing
55:45shakes out right right that's all that's
55:48going through my head that there's no
55:49way that this
55:51calm collected
55:54no personality kid decides
55:59huh i can't wait till they get home
56:00tonight right and this is what's gonna
56:03happen
56:04like it doesn't work that way like my
56:06brain doesn't allow that
56:07right yeah i still don't believe
56:10that that happens well you know did
56:14have you guys watched the movies yeah
56:16yeah documentary
56:18and somebody tears it apart well that's
56:20what i want to talk about
56:22how how tell me when you watch it
56:24because i've watched them both
56:26was there any part of that movie that
56:28you were just like
56:30yeah it either is kind of dead on or was
56:32there
56:33holes in it or how did you feel about
56:35that
56:36well the movie with the actors
56:40it was both there were parts that were
56:43true
56:44not true semi true like i mean
56:47because they were saying there was a lot
56:48of stuff that they had to fill in right
56:51and i'm sure the fill-in part wasn't
56:53quite as accurate as
56:54as what it could be right but but did
56:56the storyline seem to fit uh
56:58what you knew yeah i mean for the most
57:00part overall
57:01and and as you were watching it were you
57:03getting kind of the picture of what you
57:05then later find out actually happened
57:07was it
57:09was it nauseating to you was it just
57:12like where were you at emotionally when
57:13you saw that just kind of
57:15like numb like it was just kind of weird
57:18because i watched like when all the all
57:21the
57:23documentation came out and all the body
57:25cam footage and
57:27all the all the police reports and you
57:29know all the
57:30all the digging that they did for this
57:32trial that never happened yeah
57:34um so i like i watched all of it because
57:37for my brain i to try and even
57:41like piece this together and make it
57:43make sense which
57:44obviously it still doesn't but i'm an
57:47information person so i'm like
57:49i have all this information at my
57:50fingertips i want to
57:52know like how did this happen like
57:55obviously we weren't aware of their
57:56issues and
57:58did the did those issues lead up to this
58:00and
58:02those marital issues financial you know
58:04it's like all this stuff comes out
58:06to and obviously because you guys have a
58:09relationship with these people yeah so
58:11yeah
58:11so and then obviously and then finding
58:13out that he's having an affair and so
58:14just like all this information
58:17you know comes forward that okay now it
58:19makes a little bit more sense because
58:21there was all the stuff behind the
58:22scenes going on that we didn't know
58:24about
58:24so it wasn't just like oh they were
58:28super happy up until that night and then
58:31something happened it was obviously like
58:34there was a lot of things that played
58:35into this
58:36um that they hid well they hid well from
58:40you guys
58:40yeah we had no idea especially when you
58:42hang out a lot i mean they hit it well
58:44which is hard for a lot of people to do
58:47um so i i want to talk about one thing
58:50though
58:51and hopefully you guys have seen it did
58:52you see his actual confession
58:54when he he brought in his dad and then
58:56they they end up coming well that was
58:57one of the texts he
58:58texted me was he was waiting for his dad
59:01to come in
59:02okay so i want to talk about that
59:04because we've got to bring it in you had
59:05had text
59:06messages with him of course i've
59:08actually seen those
59:09was that the last text that you got the
59:11last text i got was
59:14my dad's flying in and then i texted him
59:17back and said hey
59:18is your dad here nothing
59:21hey how's things going nothing so you
59:24hear that confession you're watching on
59:25tv that he just confessed he fails the
59:27polygraph test
59:28yeah you you you hear this confession
59:31obviously that drives it home at that
59:32point now you know
59:33when you see the videos with him at his
59:35neighbor's house with his neighbor's
59:37doorbell cam right he's watching his
59:39truck and he's standing there his hands
59:41are on the wall
59:42now i look at it like man am i glad
59:46i didn't know when i sat on his kitchen
59:48table
59:50the night after well that's kind of
59:52where i want to go with this segment is
59:54you know where all this information
59:56comes out you see the doorbell cam
59:58um you see the other camera where you
1:00:01know the truck is backing up you see
1:00:04another car goes by and i'm going to
1:00:06kind of finish this up here in just a
1:00:07minute again and
1:00:08and i'm going to ask you guys your
1:00:09honest opinion on this because there's a
1:00:10lot of speculation
1:00:12that there may have been an accomplice
1:00:14but did you
1:00:16when you saw all of that stuff at any
1:00:19point in that time where you like yeah
1:00:21this was completely premeditated
1:00:22it he he didn't decide this that night
1:00:25after he left our party
1:00:26this was decided weeks before did you
1:00:28have that that sensation
1:00:30no tell me that would you not at all
1:00:33because everything was just
1:00:35way too normal like i i feel like if
1:00:38there was something coming up he
1:00:40wouldn't have showed up to our party
1:00:42if there was something something would
1:00:45have been out of the normal but he kept
1:00:47everything
1:00:48way too normal which to me
1:00:51now is like
1:00:55how do you how do you know you're going
1:00:57to do that
1:00:58and keep everything that normal and i
1:01:01guess that's a good thing because that
1:01:02means i could never
1:01:04do such a thing right i guess if you
1:01:07can't
1:01:08if you can't wrap your head around the
1:01:11why
1:01:12the why the kids the why like
1:01:15i i could understand a little bit of
1:01:20you could heat of passion
1:01:23a fight with someone whether it's your
1:01:25wife whether it's a
1:01:26person at a bar whether it's a friend
1:01:29whether it's
1:01:29something another adult another adult
1:01:34things happen a little bit easier than
1:01:38the whole kid kid
1:01:42wife pregnant wife to be right like
1:01:46kid kid pregnant wife how do you
1:01:52the best part is if you can't wrap your
1:01:53head around the why's good for you
1:01:56because you're not that guy right like
1:01:59yeah no that makes perfect sense perfect
1:02:01sense
1:02:02uh a couple questions have you talked to
1:02:04him at all since his arrest
1:02:06no if you had the chance would you
1:02:09yeah what would you ask him
1:02:12what the [ __ ] yeah yeah
1:02:16obviously she probably wouldn't be
1:02:17allowed in the room like
1:02:20i mean seriously like download your
1:02:23brain because
1:02:24the problem is is that you know the fbi
1:02:28has gone back to interview him
1:02:29and he's had another story and then some
1:02:33lady
1:02:34wrote him letters and wrote a book and
1:02:35then he had another story but there
1:02:37weren't like
1:02:38enough questions to still answer like
1:02:41it's still
1:02:42there's still a lot of holes in it even
1:02:43when and he keeps telling different
1:02:45stories and every time he tells the
1:02:47story it gets worse
1:02:48so it's like what really is
1:02:52the truth has to be in there somewhere
1:02:55like what is the truth and
1:02:56what what is your like what was your
1:03:00thought process leading up to
1:03:02this and now like i don't know they're
1:03:05like the fbi interviewed him again but
1:03:08they didn't ask the questions that i
1:03:09would have asked
1:03:10right it wasn't it would it be important
1:03:12for you to know do you feel like you
1:03:13would like to know
1:03:15just for your own closure and peace of
1:03:16mind yes just
1:03:19just to know because and i'm going to
1:03:22follow this up with another question
1:03:23so we we obviously know he had a
1:03:25mistress we obviously know that that he
1:03:27was having this affair but you knew him
1:03:31before the affair most likely during the
1:03:33affair
1:03:34obviously yeah he never changed at all
1:03:38did he seem happier being this
1:03:39happy-go-lucky guy he's got this girl on
1:03:41the side
1:03:42100 he
1:03:46has a poker face he
1:03:50whatever's going on in his head you
1:03:52never win
1:03:53he doesn't show it do you think this guy
1:03:56was a
1:03:57cold-blooded murderer or do you think
1:03:59that there were other circumstances that
1:04:01pushed him to do this
1:04:05that's a tough question man like i
1:04:08i don't know like
1:04:12from what you knew about this guy and
1:04:14you just don't think there's
1:04:16any possible way he could do it do you
1:04:18think
1:04:19just your opinion that there was an
1:04:22outside influence that helped
1:04:23him make this decision would you
1:04:26speculate that
1:04:27no if anything
1:04:31the kid was
1:04:35maybe introduced into a lifestyle that
1:04:37he didn't have
1:04:39by being with this other girl where he
1:04:42got to go to the shelby museum
1:04:45being a ford guy got to go camping got
1:04:48to go to moab
1:04:50got to do all these different things
1:04:52right
1:04:53and maybe right and maybe that's just me
1:04:56trying to
1:04:58circle it together to where there's a
1:05:03uh realistic reason for anything
1:05:08but i don't know if if
1:05:11her showing him this lifestyle
1:05:14is enough to make him do this
1:05:18because in my mind you're a [ __ ] then
1:05:20just get a [ __ ] divorce
1:05:22right right don't kill your [ __ ] kids
1:05:24don't kill your [ __ ] wife
1:05:27just man the [ __ ] up and get a divorce
1:05:29you know
1:05:30i i want to i want to run a couple
1:05:32things uh
1:05:33by you guys again chime in however you
1:05:35feel but
1:05:36um there is there is a few different
1:05:40uh people that speculate that there was
1:05:41an accomplice and they're pretty
1:05:43they're pretty hardcore on it um there's
1:05:46a lot of video evidence that people have
1:05:48broke down to
1:05:49to show that there was potentially two
1:05:51people there at the time
1:05:53my question again to you guys i think i
1:05:55already know the answer but to you guys
1:05:57knowing him
1:05:58and knowing her knowing the children
1:06:01do you think he would have had to have
1:06:03had an accomplished or do you think he
1:06:04was able just to do it by himself
1:06:06if he was doing it was going to be by
1:06:07himself
1:06:09he doesn't know anyone he didn't
1:06:12go places he didn't hang out with
1:06:15anybody
1:06:16that he didn't work with right like
1:06:20he the only person he knew it where i
1:06:23worked with him
1:06:24was me because of shenan right
1:06:29i've never met any of his oil field
1:06:31buddies
1:06:32at any party we've ever had with them
1:06:35right
1:06:36he was very cockroachish
1:06:40for lack of better words on that
1:06:43if they went anywhere it was her friends
1:06:46it was her people
1:06:48it was her friends that came over it was
1:06:50her thrive people that came over
1:06:51it was her world that he was living in
1:06:55okay if that makes sense like
1:06:59did you talk to any of her friends have
1:07:01any of them contacted you
1:07:02no no not at all would you like to would
1:07:05you want to talk to him
1:07:06uh sure if they have questions or if
1:07:09they have things like
1:07:11i've tried to reach out to a couple of
1:07:13them with hey i have pictures of
1:07:15the family together and the kids and
1:07:17this and that nobody's ever contacted me
1:07:19back
1:07:20what about her parents have you reached
1:07:21out to them and said you had pictures of
1:07:22them on anything
1:07:23one time and i didn't get anything back
1:07:25so i didn't push the issue
1:07:27yeah i think that's good i i know i did
1:07:29read some stuff as i was doing uh
1:07:31preparing for
1:07:32for the podcast and um it does seem as
1:07:35if
1:07:35her parents want this just to go away
1:07:37and be done and i totally get that
1:07:39um well that's the other reason why we
1:07:41waited so long to even talk to anybody
1:07:43right
1:07:43yeah we're not trying to intrude on
1:07:46anything but
1:07:48oddly enough we were as close to those
1:07:51people in the last
1:07:52few days as anyone
1:07:55could be yeah right we saw them last
1:07:58right yeah i went to his house the day
1:08:00they were missing
1:08:02they were at my house the day before
1:08:03they were missing
1:08:05right that makes us the missing link in
1:08:08the
1:08:09world of movies they want to make
1:08:12stories they want to come up with
1:08:14right and it doesn't mean much but it
1:08:16means
1:08:18in a 24 hour period of time
1:08:21they were at our house i was at his
1:08:23house
1:08:24right all right again true talks we want
1:08:27to thank you guys for telling your story
1:08:28your honesty
1:08:29um just everything that you know it's
1:08:32not easy to come on these shows and tell
1:08:34these stories
1:08:34especially the the traumatic events that
1:08:36you guys went through you know you guys
1:08:38are kind of those people that people
1:08:39forget about right
1:08:40it was extremely traumatic for you you
1:08:42knew them you knew the girls you knew
1:08:44you knew
1:08:44shenan and and even for chris i mean for
1:08:47lack of
1:08:48of an emotional thing he's still a
1:08:50person uh
1:08:51regardless of the heinous crime he did
1:08:53he's still a person that you guys knew
1:08:55so that's also kind of like a loss or a
1:08:56death i would say as well
1:08:58um but again thank you so much for
