Full transcript
- 0:04What's up, guys? It's your boy Zawoki
- 0:06back with another Chris Watts video.
- 0:09And this one is going to be obviously
- 0:11we're watching Criminal Minds. Um, which
- 0:14I love his channel. Um, I've spoken with
- 0:18him and so forth like that over the the
- 0:20course of a couple years and I
- 0:22definitely do enjoy his content. Now,
- 0:25the video that we're about to watch, not
- 0:28necessarily states new stuff because
- 0:31everybody's like, "Smokei, is there
- 0:33anything new coming out? Is it There's
- 0:36nothing besides her being seen in
- 0:38Montana, Billings, Montana for that um
- 0:43funeral that uh she went to. But the
- 0:46reason why we continuously dissect this
- 0:50one, because a lot of us think,
- 0:53including myself, that Nicole Kassinger
- 0:56was involved in some shape or form. Now,
- 0:58again, with everything that we've talked
- 1:00about and so forth like that, it's more
- 1:01alleged than anything because we can't
- 1:04prove anything.
- 1:06Mostly because the DA doesn't want to
- 1:08even touch this anymore. He got his guy,
- 1:11he got paid for his
- 1:14thing. he or the the case and then moved
- 1:17on. Okay. So, I'm definitely wanting to
- 1:20watch this in two parts. We're not going
- 1:21to watch the whole thing at once because
- 1:23it's an hour and 45 minutes, but we're
- 1:27going to watch it in two parts. So,
- 1:30before we go any further, if you guys
- 1:31could do me a solid favor and subscribe
- 1:33to my YouTube channel by hitting that
- 1:35white bar icon down the bottom right,
- 1:37hit the bell icon next to it. So when I
- 1:39do post videos like this one, you guys
- 1:42will get that little ring notification
- 1:44that I posted that video. And then you
- 1:46guys can watch, comment, like, and
- 1:47share. And again, I thank you guys all
- 1:49so very much for the continued love and
- 1:52support that you guys do show on my
- 1:53channel. And then show that same love at
- 1:56behind criminal minds. Link is in the
- 1:58description. And again, if you do not
- 2:00want to watch with my commentary, my
- 2:02reactions, the link is in the
- 2:04description for you guys to watch the
- 2:06actual video. And um yeah, so without
- 2:09further ado, let's get into Behind
- 2:12Criminal Mind presents the new testimony
- 2:14reveals a second secret app deep dive
- 2:18series. Very interesting. Let's take a
- 2:20look.
- 2:21Doubt the possibility of parole for the
- 2:23quadr homicide. I always look inside
- 2:26here and the the the people that are
- 2:29around here because Chris Watts said he
- 2:32saw Nicole, but I keep trying to look of
- 2:36his entire family nearly seven years
- 2:38ago. In the years since, the Weld County
- 2:41District Attorney has continued to
- 2:44receive new and credible information
- 2:46concerning Nicole Kessinger's possible
- 2:49involvement. However, despite the
- 2:51ongoing barrage of requests for a full
- 2:54and complete investigation, he has
- 2:57refused them all. When I say the word
- 2:59prosecutor, what phrase immediately
- 3:01comes to mind? Tough on crime,
- 3:05aggressive,
- 3:07overbearing, and rigid in appearance.
- 3:09You ask my wife and she might jump right
- 3:11to arrogant.
- 3:13I'll admit that these stereotypes aren't
- 3:15too far off base. rigid and arrogant
- 3:18doesn't even begin to cover it. But for
- 3:20the first time in over half a decade,
- 3:23entirely new evidence has been
- 3:25discovered that has the potential to
- 3:27break this case wide open. Information
- 3:31never previously known or disclosed by
- 3:34law enforcement since the arrest of
- 3:36Chris Watts. On the 6th of November
- 3:392018, Chris Watts formally accepted the
- 3:42prosecution's plea deal, agreeing to a
- 3:45conviction of five life sentences. This
- 3:48deal, approved by DA Ror himself, was
- 3:51finalized just 86 days after the crimes
- 3:55Watts committed on August 13th, 2018. So
- 3:59fast. Every single day since Watt's
- 4:02conviction, the true crime community has
- 4:04continued to find glaring mistakes,
- 4:07omissions, and failures that exposes the
- 4:10Hey, that's me. The improper and
- 4:12incomplete investigation conducted by
- 4:14the Weld County District Attorney,
- 4:16Michael Roor. In today's episode, we
- 4:18will continue with our detailed deep
- 4:20dive analysis of the Chris Watts case,
- 4:22analyzing Watt's first interview and
- 4:24contrasting this new information with
- 4:26shocking details that Watts revealed
- 4:28just 24 hours after he committed his
- 4:30crimes. providing an examination of the
- 4:33discovery records while shedding light
- 4:35on what that evidence actually reveals,
- 4:37helping us all to finally answer the
- 4:39question. Could law enforcement have
- 4:41fully and completely investigated this
- 4:44quadruple homicide in just 86 days? This
- 4:47is In Search of the Truth, the Chris
- 4:49Watts Deep Dive Series, the third
- 4:51installment. I honestly think it was way
- 4:53too fast. That's just me. In the last
- 4:56two episodes of this deep dive series,
- 4:58we have traversed the rocky landscape of
- 5:00the Watts case surrounding the days and
- 5:02weeks preceding this painful tragedy. We
- 5:04were given a deeply disturbing view of
- 5:07the heartbreak that Shannan was forced
- 5:08to endure at the hands of a man who was
- 5:10seemingly devoid of empathy or concern.
- 5:14Since beginning my analysis of this
- 5:15case, I have continued to receive
- 5:17countless messages from current and
- 5:19former members of law enforcement who
- 5:21all agree that these investigators could
- 5:24not have thoroughly evaluated the facts
- 5:26of this case. I've been getting the same
- 5:28thing. I have retired DAs. I have
- 5:33retired law enforcement. I have active
- 5:37law enforcement DAs, um, doctors, um,
- 5:42morticians. I've had literally probably
- 5:45anybody you could think of that was a
- 5:47professional
- 5:49has messaged me on Instagram. I've
- 5:51thought about making a video on just
- 5:53this conversations that I've had
- 5:58and all of them said that this was way
- 6:00too fast.
- 6:02It was done wrong. Not all the police
- 6:05officers were wrong, but a lot of them
- 6:09didn't do their diligence. They missed
- 6:12things. they screwed things up and
- 6:16yeah, so it just really makes you think
- 6:21when you hear this from all these other
- 6:22different people and of course they're
- 6:24going to have different jurisdictions
- 6:26when it comes to like Colorado to New
- 6:28York or California to Florida, Tennessee
- 6:32to Washington. You're going to have
- 6:35differences, but do you have that many
- 6:38differences?
- 6:40I'm just saying it's it raises
- 6:45red flags. I'm just throwing that out
- 6:47there. In less than 3 months time, but
- 6:51for the first time since the onset of
- 6:53this case, I will be able to
- 6:54definitively demonstrate for you just
- 6:56how inadequate this investigation was.
- 6:59But please remember, Chris Watts will
- 7:01always bear sole responsibility for his
- 7:04own actions. Oh yes, our analysis will
- 7:07always be about the pursuit of justice.
- 7:09So, as we evaluate the facts, we will
- 7:11remember the one and only reason why we
- 7:14continue to advocate for that justice,
- 7:16the victims. So, with that said, let's
- 7:19begin. Just because Nicole Kessinger
- 7:22needs to be
- 7:25looked at.
- 7:27If they just look at her and prove her
- 7:29innocence or prove her guilt, then we're
- 7:32done. This case will go quiet. This case
- 7:36will be silent.
- 7:38It would just be a
- 7:41point in history
- 7:44um that
- 7:46happened and we tried to learn from.
- 7:49But Shannan, Bella, Celeste, and Nico
- 7:52deserve to have the people that were
- 7:54involved brought to justice. And that's
- 7:56not just Chris. I feel wholeheartedly
- 8:00that Nicole Kessinger was involved
- 8:02allegedly
- 8:04in these murders. I can't tell if it's
- 8:07physical, emotional, mental, something I
- 8:11can feel in my body that she was
- 8:14involved. Just after 2 a.m. on the
- 8:16morning of August 14th, Chris and Nicole
- 8:19have just finished their nearly 3-hour
- 8:21long phone call. The same call that
- 8:23Nicole Kassinger will later claim that
- 8:25she barely recalled what they discussed
- 8:27or talked about. According to the
- 8:28discovery records, at 2:17 a.m. the two
- 8:31would say their final goodbyes, but not
- 8:33before Nicole would eavesdrop on a phone
- 8:35call with law enforcement where Chris
- 8:37was being asked very specific questions
- 8:39about his missing family. And earlier
- 8:41that same morning, Nicole Kassinger made
- 8:43sure to get on to Google and search for
- 8:45the name Shannan Watts. Over the years,
- 8:48we've learned that law enforcement never
- 8:50bothered to ask Nicole why she would be
- 8:52searching for Shannan at that specific
- 8:54point in time. Especially in light of
- 8:56the fact that Kessinger would go on to
- 8:58claim that she truly believed that
- 9:00Shannan was okay and simply at a
- 9:02friend's house.
- 9:04Bull crap. Cuz she said, "Well, maybe
- 9:06she possibly was punishing Chris for
- 9:08what was going on." She said that. We
- 9:11watched it happen.
- 9:17afternoon. He told me that she was like
- 9:20gone and he didn't know where she was.
- 9:22And at that point, I don't think that it
- 9:25set off any alarms in my head just
- 9:28because
- 9:30I mean I have because she knew that she
- 9:34was already gone.
- 9:42She's full of crap. Friends that I And
- 9:43if I don't hear from them for like three
- 9:45hours or six hours or even like a couple
- 9:47days, I don't feel concerned about where
- 9:50they're at because it's kind of a
- 9:52standard thing for me. Um, but then she
- 9:54didn't come home that night. I was like,
- 9:56"Okay, well, maybe she'll come back."
- 9:57And I was kind of under the impression
- 9:59since they're separating that maybe she
- 10:01decided to take the kids. Maybe she
- 10:03decided to just
- 10:05leave for a few days. I don't know. I
- 10:06was just Nicole, you're full of crap. I
- 10:09I felt like maybe she was just trying to
- 10:11get some space and I figured maybe that
- 10:12was why her stuff there to just get some
- 10:15quiet. If Nicole believed that Shannan
- 10:17was unharmed, then why would she be
- 10:19looking for her on Google? Right that
- 10:22morning, Sandy Ruseek, the mother of
- 10:24Shannan, called Chris and spoke to him
- 10:26for just over four minutes. The two
- 10:28would speak later that same morning at
- 10:306:32, and Chris would continue to
- 10:32perpetuate the claim that he did not
- 10:34know where her daughter and his children
- 10:36were, feigning innocence over the
- 10:38monstrosity of what he was still
- 10:40desperately trying to hide. An hour
- 10:42later, at 7:26 a.m., Chris messaged
- 10:45Shannan's friend Sam, continuing the lie
- 10:47that Shannan and the girls were likely
- 10:49safe. He told her, "I'm hoping she's
- 10:51with someone I don't know because I have
- 10:53exhausted all of the people that I know
- 10:55of. I'm optimistic we will reunite
- 10:57again. People have been stopping by from
- 10:59time to time." Two hours later and Chris
- 11:01Watts transferred one final nude image
- 11:03of his paramore Nicole Kesser. Oh man.
- 11:09into his secret calculator app. At 12:08
- 11:12p.m., Nicole Kessinger spends four
- 11:14entire hours searching the internet,
- 11:16news sites, and articles all concerning
- 11:18Shannan and the girl's disappearance.
- 11:20Detective Prill is careful to note that
- 11:22these searches that nearly took her
- 11:24entire workday were all deleted. And he
- 11:27notates this observation. Why would you
- 11:29delete search history
- 11:31of a a person that's missing that you're
- 11:34with a man
- 11:37sleeping with the other woman?
- 11:41Doesn't that scream
- 11:44red flag? Like I don't know how much
- 11:47more you can scream this and they're
- 11:50just like she wasn't involved. She's
- 11:52she's fine.
- 11:55in red. It's my experience that when law
- 11:58enforcement wants to highlight an area
- 11:59of concern, this is exactly how they do
- 12:02it. But just minutes after Nola had
- 12:04begun her relentless searches for news
- 12:06on Shannan and the girl's disappearance,
- 12:08Chris was communicating with friends and
- 12:09family again at 12:31 p.m. He was
- 12:12continuing to poorly fake the part of an
- 12:14aloof father trying to find his missing
- 12:16family. Shannan, Bella, Celeste, if
- 12:20you're out there, just just come back.
- 12:22Like if somebody has her, just please
- 12:24bring her back. I need to see everybody.
- 12:26I need to see everybody crap without
- 12:29anybody here. Please bring her back. I
- 12:32will simply never understand how or why
- 12:35Chris Watts thought that this interview
- 12:37would convince anyone of because he told
- 12:39his teacher that oh yeah, I went to
- 12:42China and he said that she believed it.
- 12:45So he thought with his lies he was going
- 12:47to get away with this.
- 12:49anything other than his complete and
- 12:51undeniable guilt. At 1:36 p.m., Chris
- 12:54again text Shannan's friend Sam. Sam had
- 12:57inquired about the possibility of
- 12:59issuing an Amber Alert for the girls.
- 13:00She was very clearly trying to do
- 13:02whatever she could to find them. And yet
- 13:05Chris could only and the reason why that
- 13:06they didn't do an Amber Alert because
- 13:08they didn't know if
- 13:10uh Shannan was with somebody or not with
- 13:14somebody because if she was with
- 13:15somebody um as a kidnapping then they
- 13:18could issue the Amber Alert. But until
- 13:21that time they couldn't have done it. We
- 13:24respond by telling her that an Amber
- 13:25Alert was not applicable in this
- 13:27situation, choosing instead to quickly
- 13:30change the subject while informing Sam
- 13:32that law enforcement had just swept his
- 13:33house with Cadaabver Dogs. Ending their
- 13:35dialogue by informing Sam that he had
- 13:37completed all of his interviews with law
- 13:39enforcement in what appeared to be an
- 13:41attempt at trying to insinuate that he
- 13:43was not responsible. Chris again called
- 13:45Shannan's mother, Sandy, at 2:30 p.m.
- 13:47and spoke with her for just over 10
- 13:49minutes. We would later learn that the
- 13:51roose checks were already I really want
- 13:52to know what she said. Convinced that
- 13:55Chris was likely involved in the
- 13:56disappearance of Shannan and the girls
- 13:58and I can only imagine that Chris and
- 14:00his shocking lack of empathy was evident
- 14:03in every word he spoke to everyone he
- 14:05encountered throughout the course of
- 14:07that day. 4 minutes after 3, Chris again
- 14:09communicates with Addie. He informs her
- 14:11that Good Morning America has contacted
- 14:13his sister for an interview. And if I
- 14:15didn't know better, it would seem that
- 14:17Chris is continuing to look for ways to
- 14:19elicit sympathy from his family. But
- 14:22just miles away at exactly 5 p.m.,
- 14:25Nicole Kessinger begins a series of
- 14:27seemingly incrimin Yeah, you can't tell
- 14:29me that that is not red flag material.
- 14:33Google searches that would later be
- 14:35identified by Detective Prill's data
- 14:37report. And by the end of this video,
- 14:39you will understand why this new
- 14:41information directly answers the
- 14:43question that Detective Prill asked
- 14:45nearly seven years ago. One hour later,
- 14:48at 6 p.m., Chris's phone notified him of
- 14:50a calendar entry that he labeled as
- 14:52talk. In the days following, law
- 14:54enforcement would determine that Chris
- 14:55had attempted to create a trail of
- 14:57breadcrumbs that he hoped would lead
- 14:59investigators to the false conclusion
- 15:00that Shannan and the girls had simply
- 15:02disappeared. Chris Watts wrongly hoped
- 15:04that they would come to the conclusion
- 15:06that he was nothing more than a loving
- 15:08father trying to locate his family. Just
- 15:1026 minutes later and Chris text his
- 15:12close friend Nick the letting him know
- 15:14that he would be on his way to his house
- 15:16after he stopped for gas. But while on
- 15:18route to spend the night at the Theer
- 15:20residence, Watts received a call from
- 15:22the Frederick Police Department.
- 15:23Detective Coder was requesting that
- 15:25Chris come into the office and answer
- 15:27some questions concerning this highly
- 15:29suspicious disappearance. his entire
- 15:31family. Watts would turn around and make
- 15:33his way to the police department in what
- 15:35would become the beginning of the end of
- 15:37his paper thin story. It's here that
- 15:39Chris would begin his first inoff
- 15:42interview with law enforcement. But this
- 15:44is also my very first time reviewing
- 15:46this footage. And when we conclude our
- 15:48analysis of all the lies that Chris told
- 15:50that day, you will learn something that
- 15:52no one in law enforcement has ever
- 15:54disclosed about this case. information
- 15:56that is now central to my formal request
- 15:59to the Weld County District Attorney's
- 16:01Office that they finally reopen this
- 16:03investigation and determine the extent
- 16:05of what and the guy that's behind behind
- 16:08criminal minds, he's a lawyer.
- 16:12Chris and we're hiding because it's time
- 16:14that we find out the truth. Hey man,
- 16:16brother.
- 16:20By the time that Chris Watts arrived at
- 16:22the Frederick Police Department that
- 16:23evening, law enforcement was already
- 16:25firmly aware that he was their likely
- 16:27primary suspect in the then
- 16:29disappearance of his wife and children.
- 16:31Anna Darko's human resource department
- 16:33had already informed law enforcement
- 16:34that Watts was communicating regularly
- 16:36with fellow employee Nicole Kessinger.
- 16:39Additionally, they had already obtained
- 16:41detailed phone records and knew that
- 16:43Chris and Nicole were far more but they
- 16:45were still talking and then she was
- 16:47deleting the messages than mere
- 16:49co-workers. Detective Graham Coder was
- 16:52tasked with the job of trying to
- 16:53ascertain what Chris had done with his
- 16:55family, but doing so without causing
- 16:57Chris to completely shut down. But one
- 17:00thing is certain, no one could have
- 17:02imagined just how dark this case was
- 17:04about to become.
- 17:08I'm going sit next to you so we get it
- 17:10together.
- 17:12So, what I want is he's sitting next to
- 17:17uh Chris Watts, more like a buddy buddy
- 17:19kind of thing. So, um he feels like he's
- 17:22engaging with Chris. They're trying to
- 17:25find out where his family went. Um
- 17:28trying to not befriend him, but seem
- 17:31like he's on his side. a bunch of people
- 17:34coming in, you know, from your
- 17:36neighborhood. Somebody saw something,
- 17:38somebody knows where these kids are. And
- 17:38I keep saying kids, I'm sorry. Kids
- 17:40know.
- 17:41And I should say, um, I work these quite
- 17:45a bit. And so tonight, if I make one of
- 17:47those mistakes when I say kids instead
- 17:48of your wife and kids, I apologize. We
- 17:51work it a lot. I apologize if something
- 17:52comes out wrong or, um, anyway. So, I
- 17:56know you're going through a lot, so I'm
- 17:58not going to keep you here all night. We
- 17:59go through this. From the moment
- 18:01Detective Coder walks through the door,
- 18:03he is demonstrating the behavior of an
- 18:05investigator who understands the gravity
- 18:07of this moment. He employs the
- 18:09well-known tactic of closing the gap
- 18:11between him and Chris, which
- 18:13subconsciously helps to remove his
- 18:14internal defenses. And I'm not a
- 18:17professional that went to school and I
- 18:20know that. And in so doing, he ensures
- 18:23that Chris never succeeds in closing off
- 18:25and walking out of that interview room.
- 18:28It's a tactic that will slowly force
- 18:30Chris to do the one thing that he hates
- 18:32to do the most. Telling the truth. So,
- 18:35okay. Or tell the truth. What does that
- 18:38mean? So, the doorbell has a a camera on
- 18:41it. When you get up to a certain
- 18:42proximity and when you ring it, it
- 18:44detects a visitor. Okay. Detective Coder
- 18:46just asked Chris about the home security
- 18:48system that detected Shannan's arrival
- 18:50just after midnight on the morning of
- 18:52August 13th. Now, it's very likely that
- 18:54Detective Coder already knows what the
- 18:56security notification meant, but he
- 18:58wants Chris to know the enormity of the
- 19:01information that law enforcement already
- 19:03has. And even more so, he wants to hear
- 19:05the way that Chris answers the question.
- 19:07If you watch closely, you can see that
- 19:09right after he answers him, Detective
- 19:11Coder stands up to close the door. And
- 19:14you can see Chris's body language
- 19:16changed right before your eyes. Watts is
- 19:18demonstrating all of the telltale signs
- 19:20of a man who is trapped and very clearly
- 19:22doing everything in his power to hide
- 19:24the truth. So, I work a lot of stuff
- 19:26like this in bank robberies and when I
- 19:27talk to, you know, a witness of a bank
- 19:29robbery, sometimes I find it best for
- 19:31them to just say, uh, I just say, uh,
- 19:34tell me what happened, get it all out,
- 19:35and then once you get it out, let's go
- 19:36over it. Okay? So, just get it all out
- 19:38as far as this. Tell me exactly what you
- 19:40remember, and I'll take notes about
- 19:41where we can go. Did you catch that?
- 19:43Detective Coder has just told Chris that
- 19:45he would like for him to tell the story
- 19:47of what happened in his own words from
- 19:49the beginning, but he equated his past
- 19:51experience as an investigator to
- 19:53interviewing victims of a bank robbery.
- 19:55Law enforcement already knows that Chris
- 19:57and Nicole are likely having an affair
- 19:59based on the records they have alone.
- 20:01And at the same time that we see Chris
- 20:03in this So now that he's pushing him
- 20:05here, he's trying to get him to feel
- 20:07like he he has no way out. Hot seat. His
- 20:10mistress Nicole is just miles away
- 20:13speaking with the FBI at a local park,
- 20:15absolutely lying through her teeth. But
- 20:18right now, Detective Coder needs to get
- 20:20Chris to tell him his first version of
- 20:22the truth. And he needs to do it before
- 20:25he shuts down the interview and requests
- 20:27a lawyer, which he never does. 1:40 a.m.
- 20:30chairs when they come knocking.
- 20:43Detective Coder has just proven what a
- 20:46skilled interrogator he is. Because this
- 20:48important seat change was started right
- 20:50as Chris began telling his first version
- 20:52of events. It's clear that he wants
- 20:54Chris to feel trapped by this
- 20:56positioning, putting himself between
- 20:58Chris and the door. And I'm not a
- 21:00professional, and I knew that.
- 21:03He wants Chris to know that he's not
- 21:05leaving. But more than anything else,
- 21:07Detective Coder, the father and husband,
- 21:09he wants to know what Chris did. He
- 21:12wants to know where to find his family.
- 21:14So, we're doorbell.
- 21:18So, when we were um over at the
- 21:20neighbor's house that the next day, we
- 21:21were looking at his camera as well, and
- 21:23it didn't show anybody walking up to the
- 21:25driveway, which is kind of weird. That's
- 21:26the only reason to put that on there
- 21:27because it showed Nicole dropping her
- 21:29off, but nobody actually walking up to
- 21:30the house. It was kind of weird. But she
- 21:32was in the house. Come in. Listen, I
- 21:34understand that criminals say and do
- 21:37very dumb things sometimes, but it
- 21:39doesn't make any sense to me why Chris
- 21:41thought anything good would come of this
- 21:43stupid lie. He just admitted to
- 21:45Detective Coder that the neighbor's
- 21:46camera never caught Shannan's arrival
- 21:48that morning, which means he knows that
- 21:50law enforcement is aware of the fact
- 21:52that the neighbor's camera also never
- 21:54showed anyone but him leaving that same
- 21:56morning. But I suppose that's why Chris
- 21:59can never seem to maintain eye contact
- 22:01throughout this entire interview because
- 22:02he knows he's a terrible liar and
- 22:05absolutely everyone can see. Oh, he
- 22:07thinks he's a great liar. Yeah. What
- 22:10time you talking? It's still
- 22:13uh 2 a.m. Jane gets into bed with me. 4
- 22:16a.m. That's when my alarm goes off for
- 22:17work and she get dressed, brushing
- 22:19teeth, everything I do upstairs. Okay.
- 22:21About 4:15, that's when I get back,
- 22:24slide right into bed next to her and
- 22:25start having a conversation with her
- 22:27about having the house up for sale and
- 22:30talking about it, like actually going
- 22:32proceeding with the separation. Okay.
- 22:34And obviously it gets pretty emotional
- 22:35like we're talking about like we felt
- 22:37this the disconnection over there like
- 22:38falling out of love and trying to stay
- 22:41together maybe just for the kids sake
- 22:42but we're realizing that doing like our
- 22:44homework is not most of the time that's
- 22:46not going to work. Yeah. Now for many of
- 22:48us who have taken the time to study this
- 22:50case all of this is very familiar. We
- 22:52know that this is the first series of
- 22:54lies that Chris will tell law
- 22:55enforcement and that eventually he will
- 22:57alter his story more than a few times.
- 23:00But it's at this point of the interview
- 23:01that I realized something. Chris's story
- 23:03is surprisingly very detailed and as we
- 23:06know very fabricated and from everything
- 23:08we know about Chris it's like if
- 23:10somebody went and studied it clear that
- 23:13throughout his or rehearsed it
- 23:16upbringing and his marriage that he was
- 23:17the kind of person who followed the
- 23:19strong women in his life in his early
- 23:21years that was his mother then it was
- 23:24Shannan but right here right now it's
- 23:26Nicole Kessinger and I just can't help
- 23:29but notice how rehearsed specific and
- 23:32detailed this lie is and I promise you
- 23:35that will become very important in the
- 23:37very near future. And it is pretty much
- 23:39because we have two beautiful kids and
- 23:41we have one on the way. So it's just a
- 23:43matter of like it was very emotional. We
- 23:45were both crying and at the end we just
- 23:48said, you know, she said she was going
- 23:49to take the kids to office today and she
- 23:51would be back.
- 23:53Listen, we all know that Chris Watts is
- 23:55capable of concocting lies with relative
- 23:57ease. But it's hard not to notice just
- 24:00how calm he is right now because
- 24:02remember, it's only been about 24 hours
- 24:04since Chris committed what is easily one
- 24:06of the most grizzly and heinous crimes
- 24:09anyone could ever commit. I'd be a
- 24:11blubbering idiot. That in the hours
- 24:13following his crimes, he felt a sense of
- 24:15relief that he was now happy because he
- 24:17could finally be with Nicole Kessinger.
- 24:20So then I can't help but ask the
- 24:21question, why would he be so confident
- 24:24in such obvious lies? It's almost as cuz
- 24:27he thought he was going to get away with
- 24:29this. Though Chris had reason to believe
- 24:32that this poorly planned deceit had
- 24:34caused. And because of new information,
- 24:36we now know that Chris was communicating
- 24:39with Nicole through a second secret app
- 24:41that they clearly both believed that law
- 24:44enforcement would never find. And it
- 24:46really seems that Chris believed was
- 24:49waiting for him on the other side. And
- 24:51until law enforcement subpoenas those
- 24:53records, we cannot know with certainty.
- 24:55I've always thought too, and somebody
- 24:57brought this to my attention as well,
- 24:58they thought that Chris's phone was
- 25:01actually recording the conversation,
- 25:04which again, we can't prove. Um, it's
- 25:07technically off, but sometimes pretty
- 25:09much when you can, I've done it too when
- 25:11I've had to record things in the past.
- 25:13You take the phone and you pretty much
- 25:15put it down or you just turn it off but
- 25:18it continuously or you don't turn it off
- 25:20but you turn off the screen and it still
- 25:22records because all you have to do is
- 25:25and it turns on the the face.
- 25:29So, it's a possibility
- 25:31what Chris and Nicole said, but it sure
- 25:34seems like his words were carefully
- 25:35planned with the singular intent of
- 25:38being with Nicole and ultimately to do
- 25:40whatever it took to get away with
- 25:42murder. And so I went out there my
- 25:45protein shake the 5 a.m. That's when I
- 25:48did that pack my lunch box and my
- 25:50oatmeal chicken took my water dug up.
- 25:535:15 I went outside back my truck I
- 25:55would load up have my book bag my lunch
- 25:57box computer water jug my big big clear
- 25:59container I put big clear containers in
- 26:01my truck so it's easy just to pull out
- 26:02pull in just depending on what I'm going
- 26:04to use kit I know I was going to do some
- 26:06stuffing box rubbers that day so I got
- 26:08some various open wrenches for my tool
- 26:10box I know doesn't work better than the
- 26:12ones they would give me okay um 5:30
- 26:15that's when I went to work and I had
- 26:18heard from took her about 2 hours there
- 26:20so 7:40 I texted her and after she could
- 26:22tell where the kids or if she took him
- 26:24anywhere. Okay. Nothing. Okay. What we
- 26:27just heard was Chris describing the
- 26:28morning of August 13th, 2018. You
- 26:31remember the exact same time that Nicole
- 26:33Kessinger's phone just happened to ping
- 26:35from the cell tower directly next to the
- 26:37Watts's home and everything that and
- 26:40they want us to believe that she was
- 26:42driving by on the way to work.
- 26:45She didn't clock into work almost an
- 26:46hour before her shift ended. She has no
- 26:50alibi.
- 26:53he is saying seems so much worse when
- 26:56you know what he was actually doing that
- 26:58morning and the lengths that he had gone
- 27:00to to completely annihilate every good
- 27:03thing that he had ever been entrusted
- 27:05with 12 again called me nothing and then
- 27:08about 12:10 p.m. That's my doorbell
- 27:10visitor another visitor and I was like
- 27:12it popped up on my phone and it says it
- 27:14was Nicole and I trying I put it on my
- 27:17phone to see if like she was trying to
- 27:19get in or whatnot and I hear like she's
- 27:20on the phone trying to I could I could
- 27:22hear her on through my phone saying she
- 27:23was trying to get to Shenan so that's
- 27:24when I called her help her at 12:20. She
- 27:27wasn't going on. She told me that Shan
- 27:28hadn't responded to any of her calls all
- 27:30day or any of her friends calls all day.
- 27:33That's that's kind that's very strange
- 27:34just because I mean she doesn't mean
- 27:36that that's fine. You know, like she
- 27:37gets busy with the kids, whatever. She's
- 27:39back to her people like the people like
- 27:40she works with direct sales. Okay. So,
- 27:42she's back with them. That's strange.
- 27:44She doesn't have to answer the phone for
- 27:46me. Why do you say that when she tries
- 27:48to get a hold of me? It's okay if she
- 27:49doesn't like
- 27:52why so much emphasis on that all.
- 27:58It's been said so many times throughout
- 28:00the history of this case, but Nicole
- 28:02Atkinson is the reason why Shannan and
- 28:05the girls were found so quickly. If she
- 28:07hadn't been as aggressive, forcing Chris
- 28:10to come home that afternoon, this case
- 28:11may not have had the same conclusion.
- 28:14But it's here, only minutes into the
- 28:15first formal interview with Chris Watts,
- 28:17that I want to remind you of why we
- 28:20continue to discuss this case. Because
- 28:22in just 85 days from the date of this
- 28:24interview, this case and all outstanding
- 28:27investigatory leads will be closed by
- 28:29District Attorney Michael Ror's office.
- 28:32The same there's other cases that were
- 28:34less bad or way
- 28:40h how I want to say this less gruesome,
- 28:43less um destruction. And they took
- 28:47months if not years
- 28:51And this murder case of a quadruple
- 28:54homicide, possibly an involvement of a
- 28:56mistress is done in 85 days.
- 29:02Who from the onset of this case has told
- 29:04the general public in so many words that
- 29:06the conviction of Chris Watts outweighed
- 29:09the importance of completing their
- 29:10investigation, holding everyone involved
- 29:13accountable, and obtaining justice. um
- 29:17everyone involved
- 29:19having them claim or um take
- 29:23accountability.
- 29:25I don't think Nicole took any
- 29:26accountability for anything. About 12:40
- 29:30funerals from Nicole to reach her while
- 29:32she was there like outside the house and
- 29:34at 1:00 that's when I left. I was like
- 29:36all right on my way down there. Uh two
- 29:38o'clock when I got home. Uh took him 45
- 29:40minutes to get there. They couldn't get
- 29:42in because 45 minutes late to keep the
- 29:45kids. Uh Nicole and the police officed
- 29:55and the keypad on the outside did not
- 29:57work in the garage. So they had to wait
- 29:59till I got there so I can get the remote
- 30:00open. And this is why I am a vocal
- 30:03supporter of Nicole Atkinson.
- 30:06was caught far earlier than his plan had
- 30:08accounted for. Originally, he was hoping
- 30:10that he would have enough time to go to
- 30:12work, leave at a normal time, all while
- 30:14sending messages faking his concern for
- 30:16Shannan. He needed time to get home,
- 30:19move her car, her phone, and all of the
- 30:21crime scene evidence to get it as far
- 30:23away from his house as possible. That's
- 30:26why it's so critical that Chris was
- 30:28interrupted before he could get home and
- 30:30dispose of Shannan's belongings. And
- 30:32it's why his story didn't make any sense
- 30:35in light of the evidence. Because the
- 30:36only logical explanation for why Shannan
- 30:39and the girls were never seen leaving
- 30:41the Watts home on camera is because they
- 30:43left in his truck and that Chris truly
- 30:46is the monster that everyone believes
- 30:48him to be. I don't agree with that. I
- 30:50open the garage door and went inside the
- 30:52house and looked everywhere and most
- 30:55nowhere to be found. Never called out.
- 30:58Her phone's still on the couch. Her
- 30:59purse is still there. Messing with the
- 31:00kids still there. The car and the car
- 31:02seat still there and there's no sign of
- 31:03anywhere. Okay. Okay. Does anyone else
- 31:06notice that Chris is reading from a
- 31:07document? That would mean that in a span
- 31:10of just over 24 hours, created a
- 31:12detailed outline of the prior day's
- 31:15events. Put that in perspective for just
- 31:17a minute. Chris was not known to do
- 31:19things like this. A highly organized
- 31:22person who was also incredibly
- 31:24meticulous. He was the puppet. There is
- 31:26a puppeteer.
- 31:28Chris was not able to do all this stuff.
- 31:31He was the follower while everybody else
- 31:33led. He followed. He didn't instruct. He
- 31:37didn't.
- 31:38Yeah. I don't know how much more like
- 31:42Behind Criminal Minds is doing a
- 31:44fantastic job because he's a
- 31:46professional. He knows how to use the
- 31:47words better than me and it's it's right
- 31:51there in front of us. And yet the DA is
- 31:53like, "We're done. We're we're not going
- 31:55to touch this anymore. Goodbye." like
- 31:58you are full of
- 32:01crap. I wanted to say other stuff but
- 32:04about dates, times, and events. Well,
- 32:06wouldn't you know it, there was someone
- 32:07in his life who happened to be very
- 32:09detailed about dates, times, and events.
- 32:11And if you turn to page 942 of the Watts
- 32:14Discovery, you'll find this
- 32:16exceptionally detailed outline that came
- 32:19from none other than Nicole Kessinger.
- 32:22But this I still don't think even think
- 32:24that this was Nicole Kessinger. It might
- 32:27have been
- 32:28help from her father. I don't know. Than
- 32:31Nicole Kessinger herself. In fact, it's
- 32:33so detailed it provides a near forensic
- 32:36level recollection of the day-to-day
- 32:38events concerning Nicole's supposedly
- 32:40short acquaintance with Chris Watts. You
- 32:43know, I just think it's very, very
- 32:44interesting that Chris is reading from a
- 32:46surprisingly similar document that
- 32:48outlines the events of the day prior in
- 32:51virtually the exact same way that Nicole
- 32:53Kessinger does just weeks later. And if
- 32:55you're the kind of person who sees this
- 32:57eversized mountain of suspicious
- 32:59behavior from Nicole as nothing more
- 33:01than mere coincidence, then good news. I
- 33:03have some property to sell you. Okay,
- 33:05I'm not going to say it, but my point
- 33:07still stands because at some point law
- 33:09enforcement needs to be honest with the
- 33:11monumental mistakes they made on this
- 33:13case, and you're about to see why. 3:00
- 33:17um that police officer detective
- 33:21Howard, right? I guess
- 33:25every time Nicole and I know questions
- 33:27about where she could have gone or who
- 33:29she could be with. Um at about 4:00
- 33:32police officers out there. He was
- 33:33checking neighbor security footage. Um
- 33:36at 5:00 p.m. uh the same same police
- 33:38officer, detective and a sergeant,
- 33:39another officer, they showed up and they
- 33:41searched the house again. Um about 6:00
- 33:44being called around anyone that I could
- 33:46that that may know something called
- 33:47hospitals, hotels. Uh 7:30 is my friend
- 33:50Nick Man showed up to show support his
- 33:52friends showing up just Lauren Dave
- 33:55Jeremy and 10 pretty much lay down but I
- 33:57didn't go to bed till like just feel the
- 33:59text and calls all night. Okay. And I
- 34:02was hoping that on the house I was
- 34:03hoping that I get a knock on my door but
- 34:06nothing happened. Do you know what
- 34:07absolutely blows my mind about this
- 34:09case? It has been nearly seven years
- 34:11since Chris committed this crime. And in
- 34:13all that time, he has never once
- 34:15attempted to sincerely apologize for
- 34:17what he did. In fact, he's done just he
- 34:20sent a letter.
- 34:23Okay, it's the exact opposite. He's
- 34:25forced friends, family members, and
- 34:26acquaintances to live with this endless
- 34:29black hole of suffering because he
- 34:31simply refuses to just tell the truth.
- 34:33He co-opted people who loved him in an
- 34:35attempt to gain their sympathy. And now
- 34:38once again, he's changed his story to
- 34:40put the blame on anyone other than
- 34:42himself. And one of the worst elements
- 34:44of this case is that because he lied so
- 34:47much and so often that even if he does
- 34:49decide to tell the truth someday, we
- 34:51won't believe him. Won't even believe
- 34:53him. But I suppose that's why so many of
- 34:55us still see this case as incomplete
- 34:58because the truth deserves to have its
- 35:00day even if Chris refuses to participate
- 35:03in making it a reality. What do you
- 35:05think happened? And the whole thing with
- 35:08the Rousex knowing about NK not being
- 35:11involved. Great. That's fantastic.
- 35:14But why can't we see it?
- 35:18Cuz I guarantee if you release that
- 35:19information that implies that Nicole
- 35:22Kessinger was not there,
- 35:25this case will go quiet. This case will
- 35:28be done.
- 35:30I telling you.
- 35:33At first, I really thought maybe she was
- 35:35just at somebody house just
- 35:36decompressing. Yeah. But after today,
- 35:39like with the onslaught of all the cars,
- 35:41I all the police cars, all the news, all
- 35:43the K9 units,
- 35:45it's making me lean the other direction
- 35:47about someone took her. Okay. But it's
- 35:49just
- 35:51if someone took her, it would have to
- 35:53have been someone she knew you because
- 35:55there's there's no sign of anything like
- 35:57being disturbed, broken, but like that's
- 35:59the way I know. At first I thought girl
- 36:01she was a decompression somewhere. I
- 36:03mean I thought she was safe even though
- 36:04everything in the house is left there
- 36:07but now it's just after today with the
- 36:08news crew and everything more the other
- 36:10direction and it's freaking me out
- 36:13because I have no idea where where they
- 36:14are
- 36:17really. Since I began this channel, I
- 36:19have spent countless hours researching
- 36:22every nook and cranny of this case.
- 36:25About Chris's upbringing, the way he
- 36:26carried himself with his friends, his
- 36:28parents, but especially I've talked to
- 36:30people that were Chris Watts's friends
- 36:33that grew up with him as children
- 36:37and they have pictures to prove it.
- 36:41Around Shannan. Now, it's obvious that
- 36:43Chris Watts was a terrible liar and
- 36:45incredibly self-diluted. a man incapable
- 36:48of seeing the forest for the trees. But
- 36:50in the months following his conviction,
- 36:52law enforcement was so baffled by his
- 36:54crime that they conducted a follow-up
- 36:56interview at his prison in an effort to
- 36:58try to understand why he would do this.
- 37:00I still think it's for NK, but some
- 37:03people think it's that's not for why
- 37:05they went there. Law enforcement has
- 37:08admitted that Chris Watts did not fit
- 37:11any of their current or existing
- 37:13offender profiles. And every single time
- 37:15that I hear him speak, all I hear are
- 37:18the words of a man who I believe was so
- 37:20clearly influenced into committing this
- 37:22crime. And that's why I will never
- 37:24understand why DA Ror refuses to admit
- 37:27his clear failures and finally properly
- 37:30investigate this crime to fix what they
- 37:33so clearly broke. If you could think of
- 37:37anything we could do to find them, what
- 37:39would it be?
- 37:42I mean, everything have exhausted so far
- 37:45like people that have car seats because
- 37:47she's left the car seat and she would
- 37:49never he hasn't exhausted crap regular
- 37:52chair because she's about that timeless
- 37:55isn't quite there yet but
- 37:58all the people that I know that have
- 38:00they contacted me unless it's I mean
- 38:03there's there's definitely a chance
- 38:04somebody I don't know I mean a guy or
- 38:06girl I mean and she has plenty of
- 38:08friends through like direct sales that I
- 38:10I've never met that could have could
- 38:13have a kid that she they probably just
- 38:15say, you know, let's go. Like, just back
- 38:17up in the back, put them, man. Let's go.
- 38:19Did you just hear that? Christa said
- 38:21something that I now believe is a
- 38:22critical part of this case. He just
- 38:25said, and she has plenty of friends
- 38:26through direct sales that I have never
- 38:28met. They could have a kid and they
- 38:30could have come and said, "Hey, let's
- 38:31go." And they back up to the back of the
- 38:33house, put them in and go. Chris is
- 38:35telling law enforcement that there is
- 38:37another way in and out of his house
- 38:40other than the front door. He's giving
- 38:43law enforcement key information that
- 38:44they seemingly missed over and over
- 38:47again. It's evident in the way that he
- 38:49describes the situation that he wants
- 38:51them to know that there is an alternate
- 38:53route into his house through Verbina
- 38:55Court. This road here that goes directly
- 38:58up to their tiny backyard fence that
- 39:01nobody anyone could have easily
- 39:03traversed. All those buildings back
- 39:06there nobody lived in yet.
- 39:11You know, kind of like an obsessive
- 39:13mistress whose phone just happened to
- 39:15ping from Frederick that and says she
- 39:16likes in the back door. Never mind.
- 39:18Morning. So, it starts to make a lot
- 39:20more sense why Chris is now telling law
- 39:22enforcement how Shannan could have
- 39:23disappeared because that very well may
- 39:26have been how Nicole Kessinger
- 39:27disappeared that morning. And this is
- 39:29like that's what's driving me nuts. when
- 39:31I tell the news like if she's out there
- 39:33like just come home like who if someone
- 39:36has her or might not just have her but
- 39:37she's at somebody's house and she's just
- 39:39progressing it's it's time to come back
- 39:40now this is real okay this has gone to a
- 39:43different level absolutely
- 39:48do you have any this guy is like you're
- 39:51full of crap Chris if it's good or bad
- 39:56yesterday I would thought that she was
- 39:58safe and she was good that she would
- 40:01as you come home today is more on the
- 40:03other side. I don't think that she would
- 40:06let it spar if she was depressing
- 40:08somewhere. I mean, she's not talking to
- 40:09anybody as far as I mean, people that
- 40:11reached out to me that I had talked to
- 40:12in like years that are friends with her.
- 40:15What we just heard is the exact same
- 40:17response that Chris gave to the local
- 40:19news that opened the door to the public
- 40:21believing that he was involved.
- 40:23Listening to the way he says these
- 40:25words, it's impossible not to notice
- 40:27just how completely inauthentic it is.
- 40:29And it's evident throughout this entire
- 40:31series of interviews that Chris had no
- 40:33earthly idea just how guilty he sounded.
- 40:36And I wonder if someday he'll come to
- 40:38the realization that the only way he
- 40:40will ever atone for what he did is to
- 40:42just tell the whole truth. And local law
- 40:45enforcement. He's literally said that
- 40:47he'll go to um his grave with
- 40:51information that he has. He just won't
- 40:53tell us like the
- 40:57what is that one that it starts with an
- 41:00Oxycodone
- 41:03that he doesn't know where he got or he
- 41:06got it from somebody but that will he'll
- 41:08take that to his grave and that there's
- 41:11things that he did with Nicole in her
- 41:14house that he is very much ashamed of
- 41:17which could be maybe he was doing
- 41:19something hokeyp pokey three-way with uh
- 41:22Nicole, Jim, and him
- 41:26might have given up on that outcome. I
- 41:28still haven't. When they look at this,
- 41:30what's the best thing that they can do
- 41:31to I don't know to say um look for these
- 41:35contacts, look for this Instagram,
- 41:37Snapchat. The only thing on here that's
- 41:40I would say it's going to be weird
- 41:41because our and um
- 41:47ATS news has got information about um
- 41:52well she got some pictures um from Chris
- 41:55Watts's Snapchat
- 41:58and it's like how much stuff went
- 41:59through Snapchat that we don't know
- 42:01about. contactless is the same.
- 42:03Detective Graham Coder and Agent Tammy
- 42:05Lee should have been allowed to take
- 42:07their time with this investigation
- 42:09because it's only been 15 minutes and
- 42:12Detective Coder has already asked the
- 42:14question that everyone in this
- 42:16investigation should have demanded
- 42:18answers to. Coder asks Watts if did you
- 42:20have an accomplice? There's an Instagram
- 42:23or a Snapchat that they can review on
- 42:25Chris's phone when they eventually
- 42:27download all of his phone data. What if
- 42:29he deleted them? He got rid of Facebook.
- 42:32You can't tell me he wasn't able to look
- 42:34at um Instagram or
- 42:40Tik Tok or how old is Tik Tok? Alexa,
- 42:44how old is Tik Tok?
- 42:46Here is an answer from an Alexa
- 42:49contributor that I translated. Tik Tok
- 42:51appeared in 2014, so it's Alexa, stop.
- 42:55So yeah, it could have been that he had
- 42:57that and um we've heard that they talked
- 43:01on Skype. So that's a possib
- 43:05I'm I'm guessing they probably did
- 43:07somewhat check it, but did they? We
- 43:09don't know. It's not the discovery. And
- 43:11if anything was in there about Nicole,
- 43:13it's been redacted.
- 43:15And you'll notice that immediately after
- 43:17he's asked that question, Chris
- 43:19completely changes the subject. Sadly,
- 43:21it's far too early for Detective Coder
- 43:23to understand just how vital this line
- 43:25of questioning was. And sadly, it's
- 43:28taken over half a decade for the answer
- 43:30to that question to come to light. That
- 43:33proves the inadequacy of this
- 43:34investigation. Is there any good ideas
- 43:37that your friends have had saying I got
- 43:38to try this? I got to do this. A lot of
- 43:40people have asked about Amber Alerts,
- 43:41but I'm not sure like why that I'm not
- 43:42sure like I'm sure you know Amber alerts
- 43:44have to do it like all right if you know
- 43:45someone has taken a kid, but since the
- 43:47last person you saw was the mom, you
- 43:48know, same thing everybody's gone.
- 43:50That's why not really used this respect.
- 43:53Well, they did they did a press
- 43:54statement. Listen, I understand that
- 43:56Chris was hiding one of the most vile
- 43:58crime scenes in Colorado history, but I
- 44:00genuinely cannot understand his complete
- 44:03apathy towards his own children. It
- 44:06seems like he doesn't even know how
- 44:08objectively bizarre his behavior is. He
- 44:10cares. He can't even seem to competently
- 44:13fake concern over the reality that his
- 44:15pregnant wife and children are missing.
- 44:17which only further strengthens my view
- 44:19that the only logical explanation of why
- 44:22he could be so FL or Nicole Kessinger
- 44:24and they were so little
- 44:27in his disregard for his family's
- 44:29well-being was because he knew that his
- 44:31mistress was waiting for him and that
- 44:33all he needed to do was find a way to
- 44:35prevent law enforcement from finding the
- 44:37nightmare that he was hiding at Servy
- 44:39319. How could she have left the house?
- 44:44Only way I should have left the house is
- 44:46from my picked her up, but it happened
- 44:47after the camera in the front where the
- 44:50neighbor faces the driveway. They would
- 44:52have picked that up. Only thing I picked
- 44:54up was me leaving at like 56. Okay. I
- 44:57didn't know you were. It's neighbor's
- 44:58hammer.
- 45:00We were all over there watching it with
- 45:01the
- 45:03loading up my truck.
- 45:05Chris is again reminding Detective Coder
- 45:08that the only other way that anyone
- 45:10could have left the house undetected
- 45:12would have been through the backyard
- 45:13since no other movement was picked up by
- 45:15neighbor Nate's camera. But Chris knows
- 45:17that every single person who loves
- 45:19Shannan is telling law enforcement that
- 45:21Shannan would have never left the home
- 45:23without her cell phone, without the
- 45:25girl's car seats, and without which was
- 45:27in the couch. But who put it in the
- 45:29couch? Her medication, let alone
- 45:33everything else she left behind. But
- 45:34Detective Coder is no fool. He knows
- 45:37that Shannan didn't leave through the
- 45:38backyard that morning. And he knows that
- 45:40the only person who does know where she
- 45:42is and where his children are is the man
- 45:45sitting in front of him. So we talked
- 45:46about her decompression a few times.
- 45:48Where would you do that? She would have
- 45:50to go to her friend's house to do that.
- 45:51She wouldn't just go anywhere. No.
- 45:54I've checked. She had if she had any
- 45:56cash on her. I'm not sure like how much
- 45:57she would have had on. She doesn't
- 45:58usually didn't carry much cash. The cash
- 46:00she had in her wallet wasn't to Cole the
- 46:02previous day. Cole. Oh, okay. She told
- 46:04me that the cash gave her when we found
- 46:06her purse for what?
- 46:08I'm not sure. She didn't tell me. Okay.
- 46:10But that was only cash out of her
- 46:11wallet. And is that still at the house
- 46:13she said? Yeah. Okay. So, is her
- 46:15license? Yeah. She got no cash that we
- 46:18know. No license, no phone. Um, anything
- 46:22about the clothes in the closet, the
- 46:24hamper, and drawers that makes you
- 46:25think, did she pack some boots? No one
- 46:27knows.
- 46:28Like, she has so many clothes in that in
- 46:30that closet. Like, it's it'd be hard to
- 46:31really tell if she took A little amount.
- 46:34A big amount. It'd be pretty obvious,
- 46:35but like a little amount.
- 46:38Detective Coder is going step by step
- 46:40through every possible item that Chris
- 46:42claims Shannan left. And there's
- 46:44probably a chat bubble right here that
- 46:45he goes, "Do I really have to listen to
- 46:48this Nimrod talk and lie about
- 46:50everything when we know that
- 46:53he's the he's the bad guy?" behind.
- 46:56While it may seem like he's trying to
- 46:58ascertain where Shannan took the girls,
- 47:00it's very likely that he already knows
- 47:02Shannan's not coming home alive. The
- 47:04point of this exercise is to make Chris
- 47:06say out loud that Shannan left the house
- 47:08without her clothes, her medication, her
- 47:10phone, or anything else the girls needed
- 47:12and let the absurdity of that answer
- 47:15hang in the air and force Chris to the
- 47:17realization that the only avenue he has
- 47:19left is to reveal what he did with his
- 47:21family. But this detective could not
- 47:23have possibly known the lengths that the
- 47:25man sitting in front of him would go to
- 47:27just to avoid the truth. Even at the
- 47:30expense of being labeled one of the most
- 47:32evil men alive. And it's my experience
- 47:34that when you are dealing with someone
- 47:36who refuses to tell the truth, the only
- 47:38option that you have left is to do it
- 47:40for them. Let me back up a tiny bit. You
- 47:42come home, no one has been in the house.
- 47:45No. Okay. No one could get in the house.
- 47:46Is that right? Yeah. Unless you had a
- 47:47garage door. Okay. And that's how you
- 47:49got in. So at this point you be the
- 47:51police at this point. Yes. So you the
- 47:52police Nicole was it person
- 47:58Nicholas?
- 48:01I think it's Nick. And so you and Nicole
- 48:04aren't besties per se. You and although
- 48:07like I mean we're friends but yeah my
- 48:09wife and her good friends. Okay. And so
- 48:12Nick you Nick? No. Okay. Why is Nick
- 48:15there? He was just with her with his
- 48:17mom. Okay.
- 48:19Is there anything about there? Not that
- 48:22I really think of. Do you think anything
- 48:25about your wife not being around? You
- 48:27really don't know why Nicole's there.
- 48:30She's looking for her friend.
- 48:35I would hope not.
- 48:37I mean, like Nicole is one of her good
- 48:39friends. Okay, so let's review.
- 48:41Detective Coder is asking Chris about
- 48:43what happened when he arrived home from
- 48:44work the afternoon of August 13th. He
- 48:46then asks Chris if Nicole Atkinson and
- 48:49her son Nick could have possibly been
- 48:51involved in the disappearance of Shannan
- 48:53and the girls. That's messed up. And
- 48:55that's where the Shannan haters are
- 48:57like, "It was Nicole and her son that
- 49:00took Shannan or M." Like, what
- 49:04that's that's there's people that are
- 49:06doing that. Chris Watts knows that
- 49:08Nicole Atkinson had nothing to do with
- 49:11his crimes and instead of showing but
- 49:13again tries to blame it on somebody else
- 49:16that might be there any semblance of
- 49:18decency by affirming Nicole Atkinson's
- 49:20innocence he instead responds by saying
- 49:23I don't know if she was involved I
- 49:25certainly hope not tried to imagine the
- 49:27enormity of his response if law
- 49:29enforcement didn't already have
- 49:31considerable information that suggested
- 49:33Chris's involvement he could have placed
- 49:35Nicole Atkinson at the center of their
- 49:37investigation, wasting time and more
- 49:39importantly putting an innocent person
- 49:42under suspicion for the crimes that he
- 49:44committed. And while this investigation
- 49:46may have been rushed, we can be grateful
- 49:48that the detectives involved were smart
- 49:50enough to see through the avalanche of
- 49:52what's endless lies and misdirection.
- 49:56Begin calling around to anyone I know
- 49:58that could something
- 50:00call hospitals and hospitals as well. 73
- 50:03friends Nick and come by to show
- 50:05support.
- 50:07So 6 began calling around anyone I know
- 50:09that could know something or maybe seen
- 50:11what happened there. Same thing like
- 50:13everybody that I've talked to is like
- 50:15they haven't heard from her, they
- 50:16haven't seen her, they nothing.
- 50:19Who's helping you make these calls?
- 50:20That's just me. Just point you by
- 50:22yourself. I was by myself. I'm sure
- 50:23Nicole and other people were doing that
- 50:24while they were gone. Detective Coder
- 50:26has been reading directly from the
- 50:28surprisingly detailed outline that Chris
- 50:30brought to his first interview. Cota
- 50:32reads the segment about how Chris called
- 50:33friends to try and see if anyone had
- 50:35heard from Shannan. But then he reads
- 50:37how Chris claimed to have called local
- 50:38hospitals to try and see if Shannan had
- 50:41been admitted. And while this detective
- 50:42doesn't yet know the full scope of the
- 50:44truth, he will soon find out that Chris
- 50:46had made those calls. In fact, what's
- 50:48called Good Samaritan Medical Center,
- 50:50St. Anthony North Health Campus,
- 50:52Longmont United Hospital, and UC Health
- 50:54in Broomfield. The only problem was that
- 50:56Chris made all four of those calls in a
- 50:58span of just four minutes. So, it was
- 51:01quite literally impossible for him to
- 51:03have spoken with anyone at these
- 51:04hospitals and confirmed the absence of
- 51:07his wife and children. But even in spite
- 51:09of the lack of information at this very
- 51:11early stage of their investigation,
- 51:13Detective Coder is about to challenge
- 51:15all of Watt's lies and force him to
- 51:17reveal his tell to reveal the truth
- 51:20behind his lies. Can we talk about some
- 51:23of that?
- 51:26Here we go. work investigations like
- 51:28this, I have to keep an open mind on
- 51:30everything. Okay?
- 51:34And part of keeping an open mind is
- 51:36listening to you talk about your wife
- 51:37and your marriage. And the day she goes
- 51:41missing is the day that you guys have
- 51:42marital discord. Okay.
- 51:45So you can understand about
- 51:50relationship.
- 51:52Like I know like I've talked to a few of
- 51:54my friends like this good on you. I know
- 51:57it's like people that if people knew
- 51:58that we were having marital issues,
- 52:01they're going to look at me, especially
- 52:02with the way everything was. It honestly
- 52:04just makes me sick to my stomach because
- 52:05this is something that I would never do
- 52:09ever. Now, you don't have to be a body
- 52:12language. You can literally see his
- 52:14chest like
- 52:17like it's it's going in and out, in
- 52:20expert to know that everything Chris
- 52:22Watch just said is complete and utter
- 52:24BS. From the way that he responds to the
- 52:26question of his implied involvement to
- 52:28the way he holds his hands, everything
- 52:30about his affect implies guilt.
- 52:32Thankfully, the sheer volume of evidence
- 52:34that law enforcement was building
- 52:36against Watts was already considerable.
- 52:38And this is still a full day before the
- 52:40infamous polygraph. But Detective Coder
- 52:43isn't going to allow Chris to squirm
- 52:44away and deflect from his suspicion. In
- 52:47fact, for the next 45 minutes, this
- 52:49investigator is going to push Watts into
- 52:51an allout confrontation. Coder is going
- 52:53to demand answers for what Chris did to
- 52:56Shannan and the girls. And by the time
- 52:58he's done, law enforcement will know
- 53:00with certainty exactly who their primary
- 53:02suspect is. I know like you have to look
- 53:05at every every vantage point. This is
- 53:07something I was never doing to my kids
- 53:09or my wife at all.
- 53:17Man, the suspense in that room. You can
- 53:20cut it with a knife.
- 53:23I'm not sure like what I could do like
- 53:26to make people believe that just because
- 53:27if they they think you were have marital
- 53:30discord they would automatically me but
- 53:32there's no I would harm anybody in my
- 53:34family
- 53:36at all.
- 53:43I know we were having marital discord
- 53:44and we had that conversation that
- 53:46morning and then she goes we have no
- 53:49idea where she is or the kids.
- 53:52I promise you that has nothing to do
- 53:55with any of that.
- 54:01He just he keeps talking and this
- 54:04detective is
- 54:09like we don't believe a word you're
- 54:10saying dude
- 54:18why should I believe you because I'm
- 54:20very trusting person and the people that
- 54:22do know me they know how I'm a calm
- 54:24person I am not an argumented person I
- 54:27am a person who is that's never going to
- 54:30be abusive physical in any kind of
- 54:32relationship. I will never harm my kids.
- 54:34I will never harm my wife. You can talk
- 54:37to me. You can talk to any of my
- 54:38friends, any of her friends. They know
- 54:41me. They know I'm a lowkey guy that's
- 54:44quiet. I'm not about confrontation. I'm
- 54:47not about anything that elevates to that
- 54:50level. I mean, like if someone yells at
- 54:53me, screams at me, I just hate it. And I
- 54:56just try to get it by the wayside and
- 54:58get it back to where it's a cool just a
- 55:00cool conversation. or like none of that
- 55:01none of that gives that I am not that
- 55:04person over the last two that was that
- 55:07would be true but if he didn't do what
- 55:10he did he was that kind of person where
- 55:12he didn't find drama didn't seek it try
- 55:16to avoid it and so forth but then he
- 55:19goes and murders his family and then
- 55:20that all goes out the window so minutes
- 55:23Chris Watts has unintentionally walked
- 55:25himself into one of the most elaborate
- 55:27traps that he could have when he
- 55:29probably should have said I need to
- 55:30speak to a uh lawyer possibly imagined.
- 55:34Detective Coder is letting Chris convict
- 55:36himself. He wants him to talk because
- 55:38every good investigator understands that
- 55:40they need the defendant to tell their
- 55:42story because every case has the
- 55:45potential to end up in front of a jury
- 55:47or in front of an appellet court. One of
- 55:49the most significant things that Chris
- 55:51said was near the end of that segment.
- 55:53He said, "When someone yells at me or
- 55:55screams at me, I just take it. I believe
- 55:58that the person you need to worry about
- 56:00most, I bet he does. Just take it. It
- 56:03isn't typically the loudmouth or the
- 56:05arrogant braggards or even the ones who
- 56:07may appear dangerous. In my experience,
- 56:10the most perilous person of all is the
- 56:12person who gets yelled and screamed at
- 56:14and just takes it. But it's how Chris
- 56:16described himself that I want you to pay
- 56:18very close attention to. When Cota asks
- 56:20him why he should believe that Chris did
- 56:23not harm his family, Chris responds by
- 56:25telling him that he is a trustworthy
- 56:27person. Of course, now we know that his
- 56:29response was a complete and utter lie.
- 56:31But you will want to remember his
- 56:33undeniable tell. When Chris Watts lies,
- 56:36he describes himself as someone who
- 56:38friends and family would call
- 56:39trustworthy.
- 56:42And we're going to stop it there for
- 56:43part one. If you guys want to see part
- 56:45two, leave a like. Let's try to get this
- 56:48video to a thousand likes. Come on. I
- 56:50know we can do it. Uh, make sure you
- 56:52guys share with your friends, your
- 56:54family, or anybody you guys know. And
- 56:56then don't forget to go over to Behind
- 56:57Criminal Minds and give that man some
- 57:00love and support as well. He's got tons
- 57:02of other content. Um, please take care,
- 57:04be safe, guys. As always, keep nerding
- 57:06on and we will see you guys in the next
- 57:09video. Peace.
- 57:11[Applause]
