- 0:00I don't know what what a ballet dancer
- 0:01feels like just before they get on to do
- 0:03Swan Lake, but Swan Lake is not random
- 0:05when they get on stage. And there's not
- 0:06a lot of of freedom to do new stuff when
- 0:09you're out there. And spacew walks are
- 0:11choreographed to that level. But also,
- 0:14you can easily trip and fall in either
- 0:15one and and make a fool of yourself or
- 0:17or wreck the whole production.
- 0:21[Music]
- 0:23you're in the airlock and everything's
- 0:25closed out and you've been doing this
- 0:26multi multi-stage process and you
- 0:28manually um you've depressurized it so
- 0:31that you're at the vacuum and your your
- 0:32space suit is working properly and it
- 0:34gets so quiet
- 0:36cuz the pressure goes down to really low
- 0:38pressure in your suit. So it's it's
- 0:40peaceful. All you hear is yourself
- 0:41breathing. And then you turn this huge
- 0:44crank to open up the uh the hatch. And
- 0:46then you manually lift it like taking a
- 0:48manhole cover off and chunk it up into
- 0:51place. And then you still can't see
- 0:52anything because there's a fabric cover
- 0:54to keep the temperature. So you got to
- 0:55reach around and undo all this velcro
- 0:56and push this thing out of the way. And
- 0:58then suddenly you're in space.
- 1:04Visually it's everything. the the world
- 1:07is there ex pouring by in 8 km a second
- 1:11in in all kaleidoscopic uh unbidden
- 1:14glory and and the universe is right
- 1:17there on the other side of you.
- 1:18Everything forever is right there and
- 1:20you're like holding on with one hand in
- 1:21the middle. It's uh it's phenomenal. I
- 1:24really like it. It's a lot of fun
- 1:26walking in space and uh I was lucky
- 1:29enough to be outside for about 15 hours
- 1:31over two spacew walks which is 10 times
- 1:33around the world.
