  6. 0:12as we explore the category we started
  7. 0:14yesterday
  8. 0:15which is your spiritual life this is a
  9. 0:17super deep
  10. 0:18powerful category and today i think
  11. 0:21we've got a moving exercise that's
  12. 0:23really going to light you up as a human
  13. 0:25being
  14. 0:25and help you make some serious progress
  15. 0:28in this category
  16. 0:29i'd like to begin today's exploration by
  17. 0:31sharing a really important life book
  18. 0:33principle with you that we discovered
  19. 0:35years ago
  20. 0:36that's going to shed some light on this
  21. 0:38personal development work that you've
  22. 0:39been doing
  23. 0:40and you'll continue to do over this
  24. 0:4230-day challenge
  25. 0:44we call it the principle of lifestyle
  26. 0:47integration it's really interesting
  27. 0:50the principle of lifestyle integration
  28. 0:52says that personal development
  29. 0:55principles
  30. 0:56only work when you integrate them
  31. 0:59and make them a part of your lifestyle
  32. 1:02in other words
  33. 1:03if the principles you're learning don't
  34. 1:05change your behavior
  35. 1:07they simply don't work most personal
  36. 1:10development stuff
  37. 1:11most seminars and books and programs
  38. 1:14fail to produce permanent positive
  39. 1:17results in people's lives
  40. 1:18they don't stick the vast majority of
  41. 1:21the time
  42. 1:21for the vast majority of the people and
  43. 1:23everybody knows that everyone inside and
  44. 1:25outside the industry
  45. 1:26simply knows that you you can understand
  46. 1:29the concepts that you're learning
  47. 1:30intellectually
  48. 1:31when you go to the seminars and go to
  49. 1:33the programs and read the books but
  50. 1:34that's simply not
  51. 1:36enough to get results in your life if
  52. 1:38what you're learning doesn't
  53. 1:40change something that you do daily it's
  54. 1:43not going to show up in your life it's
  55. 1:44simply not going to make any difference
  56. 1:48look this is this is the deal in the
  57. 1:5021st century
  58. 1:51all the wisdom we need is out there
  59. 1:53there is simply no
  60. 1:54shortage of cutting-edge information
  61. 1:56business strategies
  62. 1:58life-changing advice out there right
  63. 2:00everything we need to get in perfect
  64. 2:02physical shape
  65. 2:03to build a financial empire to become a
  66. 2:06stellar human being
  67. 2:07in just about any area of our lives it's
  68. 2:10right
  69. 2:10at our fingertips all we got to do is
  70. 2:12get on the internet and access it
  71. 2:15so the big question is why isn't
  72. 2:17everybody
  73. 2:18already living the life of their dreams
  74. 2:22because as jacob sokol puts it
  75. 2:24epiphanies
  76. 2:25are thrilling but they're cheap they're
  77. 2:28a dime a dozen
  78. 2:30if you want one all you got to do is
  79. 2:31type in the right keywords and you can
  80. 2:33get one in about five minutes
  81. 2:35yes those epiphanies are exciting you
  82. 2:38know it's awesome when you have one of
  83. 2:39those aha moments it always seems
  84. 2:42life-altering at the time but if you
  85. 2:44take a look at your life a week later
  86. 2:46you take a look at your life a month
  87. 2:48later did anything really happen
  88. 2:51usually not because it's not about what
  89. 2:54you learn
  90. 2:55it's about what you do epiphanies
  91. 2:58fade in order to leverage those
  92. 3:01aha moments that you have when you're
  93. 3:03doing this personal development work
  94. 3:04you've got to make changes in your life
  95. 3:07they're going to allow you to sustain
  96. 3:09whatever insight you're getting if you
  97. 3:12want to really change something about
  98. 3:14your life
  99. 3:14you've got to change your behavior or
  100. 3:17that change
  101. 3:18just won't last now this principle also
  102. 3:22applies to the goals that you set
  103. 3:24goal setting is only effective if your
  104. 3:26goals
  105. 3:27move you to do something different in
  106. 3:30your life
  107. 3:31all the aspirations you have are going
  108. 3:34to stay exactly that
  109. 3:35aspirations daydreams unless you change
  110. 3:39your behavior
  111. 3:40in a way that supports them every single
  112. 3:42one of your goals
  113. 3:44all the epiphanies that you have all the
  114. 3:45paradigm shifts all those aha moments
  115. 3:48they will produce positive change
  116. 3:51precisely
  117. 3:52to the extent that you change your daily
  118. 3:55behavior
  119. 3:56and integrate them into your lifestyle
  120. 4:00and if life book is about anything it's
  121. 4:02about
  122. 4:03lifestyle integration that's our
  123. 4:05singular mission that's where we put all
  124. 4:07of our intention
  125. 4:08our core purpose is to help you create a
  126. 4:11life vision for yourself
  127. 4:13clear compelling amazing life vision
  128. 4:16and then integrate that life vision into
  129. 4:19your everyday life
  130. 4:20that's what all of our content is
  131. 4:22designed to do all of our challenges
  132. 4:24accountability all of our support all
  133. 4:27the connection with the community
  134. 4:29everything we do is designed to driving
  135. 4:32you
  136. 4:33to integrate the life vision that you
  137. 4:36create
  138. 4:37into your daily behavior because that's
  139. 4:39what's going to produce results
  140. 4:40that's what's going to lead you to the
  141. 4:42extraordinary life
  142. 4:44that you really want to be living and
  143. 4:46today
  144. 4:47we're going to explore applying the
  145. 4:49principle of lifestyle integration into
  146. 4:51your spiritual life
  147. 4:52so you can start to understand exactly
  148. 4:54how powerful this concept is
  149. 4:56and we're going to do it with a simple
  150. 4:58but powerful
  151. 4:59spiritual exercise that's designed to
  152. 5:03what to change your daily behavior
  153. 5:06which is the whole focus of this 30-day
  154. 5:08challenge better choices
  155. 5:10higher quality behaviors so first
  156. 5:14you'll define a specific spiritual goal
  157. 5:17for the remainder of this 30-day
  158. 5:18challenge
  159. 5:19something that you feel would be really
  160. 5:20valuable to you in this category and
  161. 5:22move your life forward
  162. 5:24and then once you've done that you're
  163. 5:26going to choose a daily practice
  164. 5:28to support that spiritual goal and then
  165. 5:30you're going to practice it
  166. 5:31every single day during the remainder of
  167. 5:34this challenge
  168. 5:35you're simply going to change one thing
  169. 5:37that you do daily
  170. 5:38and watch the results unfold in your
  171. 5:41spiritual life
  172. 5:42there's something interesting about this
  173. 5:43category you know at the end of the day
  174. 5:46most of us tend to elevate this category
  175. 5:48in some way and think that it sort of
  176. 5:50operates differently than the other
  177. 5:52categories and in some respects it
  178. 5:53really does
  179. 5:54but in most respects it behaves just
  180. 5:57like the other categories
  181. 5:59it's all about cause and effect and the
  182. 6:01truth of the matter is
  183. 6:02if you want improvement in any area of
  184. 6:04your life no matter what that area is
  185. 6:06whether it's your health and fitness or
  186. 6:08your love life or your financial life
  187. 6:10you've got to do something that creates
  188. 6:12that improvement
  189. 6:13you've got to become the cause of the
  190. 6:15effect that you want
  191. 6:17and it's exactly the same with your
  192. 6:19spiritual life you know you can
  193. 6:20claim that you want to become a more
  194. 6:23spiritual person
  195. 6:24more enlightened more christ-like more
  196. 6:27self-actualized
  197. 6:29more peaceful or loving or giving
  198. 6:30whatever it is that you you want to
  199. 6:32achieve in your spiritual life
  200. 6:34but the truth is if you're not willing
  201. 6:36to change your behavior
  202. 6:37it's really nothing but lip service
  203. 6:39nothing's going to change nothing's
  204. 6:40going to happen
  205. 6:42so today what we want to do is we want
  206. 6:43to invite you to experience the power
  207. 6:46of the principle of lifestyle
  208. 6:48integration and create some real results
  209. 6:50in your spiritual life
  210. 6:52so let's take a look at this spiritual
  211. 6:53exercise now
  212. 6:56step one define your spiritual goals
  213. 7:00first question we want you to ask
  214. 7:01yourself is what would be a great
  215. 7:03goal for the remainder of this 30-day
  216. 7:05challenge
  217. 7:07so when you think about what your own
  218. 7:09spirituality means to you
  219. 7:11what could you aspire to that'll really
  220. 7:14allow your spirituality to unfold over
  221. 7:16the next few weeks
  222. 7:18how can you recommit to your own
  223. 7:20spiritual path
  224. 7:22for example if my spirituality entails
  225. 7:25the experience of inner peace
  226. 7:27i could set a goal to just become more
  227. 7:29peaceful over the remainder of this
  228. 7:31challenge
  229. 7:32a more content person over the next few
  230. 7:34weeks
  231. 7:35or a more grateful person who's more
  232. 7:37appreciative for everything that i have
  233. 7:38in my life
  234. 7:39which would what it would lead me toward
  235. 7:41more inner peace
  236. 7:42if my view of spirituality entails a
  237. 7:45focus on giving
  238. 7:46on contributing to others and making the
  239. 7:48world a better place
  240. 7:49i could set a goal to give more in the
  241. 7:51coming weeks to really
  242. 7:53try to make a difference in people's
  243. 7:54lives or to get involved in an
  244. 7:57organization
  245. 7:58that's doing something that i believe in
  246. 8:00if my view of spirituality entails a
  247. 8:03commitment to self-actualization
  248. 8:05to becoming the best person i can
  249. 8:06possibly be
  250. 8:08i could set a personal development goal
  251. 8:09for my spiritual life this actually
  252. 8:11works great
  253. 8:12i could identify some character traits
  254. 8:14that i want to cultivate within myself
  255. 8:16that would literally help me become a
  256. 8:18better person
  257. 8:19maybe i need more compassion in my life
  258. 8:22maybe i need to forgive someone
  259. 8:24and to heal a relationship or to forgive
  260. 8:26myself
  261. 8:28maybe i need to cultivate more
  262. 8:29self-discipline as part of my spiritual
  263. 8:31journey
  264. 8:33so the question is what goal could i set
  265. 8:36that would help me become a better more
  266. 8:38self-actualized person
  267. 8:40over the remainder of this challenge
  268. 8:43try to identify your highest spiritual
  269. 8:47leverage point here
  270. 8:48what goal could you set that would just
  271. 8:50really move your life
  272. 8:51forward in this category so after you've
  273. 8:54set your spiritual goal
  274. 8:56the next thing that we want you to do is
  275. 8:57we want you to choose a daily practice
  276. 9:00that will support that goal and then
  277. 9:02practice it every single day
  278. 9:04during the remainder of this challenge
  279. 9:06and that's where the power of this
  280. 9:07exercise
  281. 9:08really kicks in ask yourself what
  282. 9:11behavior could i integrate into my life
  283. 9:13to ensure that my spiritual aspiration
  284. 9:16that i've identified
  285. 9:17becomes a reality because if you want to
  286. 9:20create changes that stick in the
  287. 9:21spiritual category or any other category
  288. 9:23for that matter
  289. 9:24this is the way to do it you've got to
  290. 9:27change something that you do
  291. 9:29daily so what i'm going to do here is
  292. 9:32i'm going to share a
  293. 9:33powerful list of spiritual disciplines
  294. 9:35and practices from the lifebook
  295. 9:37community that we've collected over the
  296. 9:38years
  297. 9:39that are going to support just about any
  298. 9:40goal that you could set in this category
  299. 9:43and i'd like you to either choose a
  300. 9:45practice from this list
  301. 9:46or of course you can feel free to come
  302. 9:49up with your own practice
  303. 9:50so here are some great spiritual
  304. 9:52practices submitted to us by life book
  305. 9:54members over the years
  306. 9:56you could choose the spiritual practice
  307. 9:59of forgiveness
  308. 10:00gandhi had a great quote about
  309. 10:02forgiveness he said
  310. 10:04the weak can never forgive forgiveness
  311. 10:07is the attribute of the strong isn't
  312. 10:10that the truth
  313. 10:11it takes strength to let go
  314. 10:14of the baggage that you've been carrying
  315. 10:16around and truly forgive someone
  316. 10:19and forgiveness is one of the most
  317. 10:20powerful spiritual practices
  318. 10:22of all of them whatever it is that we're
  319. 10:24feeling you know whether it's
  320. 10:26anger or resentment or hurt forgiveness
  321. 10:29is the path
  322. 10:30to a lighter heart it's the path to
  323. 10:33increased happiness
  324. 10:34and a greater sense of inner peace so
  325. 10:37for the remainder of this challenge
  326. 10:39you could commit to practicing
  327. 10:40forgiveness every single day
  328. 10:42just spend a small amount of time
  329. 10:44quality time with yourself every morning
  330. 10:47just a minute or two quiet your mind
  331. 10:50scan your emotional state for pockets of
  332. 10:53negativity
  333. 10:55and when you find one of those pockets
  334. 10:56just take a moment
  335. 10:58and try to identify the root source of
  336. 11:00that pain
  337. 11:01are you feeling angry at someone are you
  338. 11:04feeling
  339. 11:04resentful at somebody else or maybe are
  340. 11:07you feeling angry toward yourself or
  341. 11:09something
  342. 11:10and then once you've identified that
  343. 11:12just take a moment and radiate
  344. 11:14total forgiveness on the problem and
  345. 11:17odds are
  346. 11:18it's going to completely melt away or at
  347. 11:21least start to melt away
  348. 11:23the spiritual practice of forgiveness is
  349. 11:25amazingly powerful it can totally change
  350. 11:27your life
  351. 11:29you could choose the spiritual practice
  352. 11:31of meditation for the remainder of this
  353. 11:3330-day challenge
  354. 11:35the great poet rumi said the quieter you
  355. 11:38become
  356. 11:39the more you're able to hear see
  357. 11:42our minds which are our primary tools of
  358. 11:45survival
  359. 11:46they're programmed to constantly be
  360. 11:48active they're they're always looking
  361. 11:50forward they're always questioning
  362. 11:52always sort of
  363. 11:53planning the next step or anticipating
  364. 11:56this or that this is how we stay alive
  365. 11:58very very valuable
  366. 12:00but often times as buddha put it our
  367. 12:03minds can be like
  368. 12:04drunken monkeys jumping from tree to
  369. 12:06tree
  370. 12:07chattering incessantly and redundantly
  371. 12:10and so that's why so many great
  372. 12:13spiritual disciplines teach that there's
  373. 12:14got to be a balance between
  374. 12:16thinking and just quieting your mind of
  375. 12:19silence
  376. 12:20if you want to experience inner peace
  377. 12:22harmony self-mastery or any of that
  378. 12:25stuff
  379. 12:26meditation is a great tool to use to
  380. 12:29create that balance as deepak chopra
  381. 12:32said
  382. 12:33meditation is a way of entering into the
  383. 12:35quiet that's already there
  384. 12:37buried under the 50 000 thoughts that an
  385. 12:41average person thinks
  386. 12:42every day so during the remainder of
  387. 12:44this challenge
  388. 12:45you could commit to practicing
  389. 12:47meditation every single day
  390. 12:50you could choose the spiritual practice
  391. 12:52of spending time in nature
  392. 12:54now this is a little bit unexpected but
  393. 12:56the fact of the matter is
  394. 12:57americans spend 90 percent of their time
  395. 13:00indoors
  396. 13:0090 we spend so much time
  397. 13:04confined in buildings of steel and
  398. 13:06concrete and brick
  399. 13:07that we forget where we came from we
  400. 13:10belong in nature
  401. 13:11our souls need to be outdoors and
  402. 13:14breathe fresh air
  403. 13:15listen to the beautiful sound of nature
  404. 13:17be around trees
  405. 13:19feel the warm sun on our skin feel the
  406. 13:21grass underneath our feet
  407. 13:23it feels so good to the entire human
  408. 13:25organism to be outside
  409. 13:27so over the next couple weeks you could
  410. 13:29commit to spending time in nature
  411. 13:31every single day and this is an amazing
  412. 13:33thing to do i've done it
  413. 13:35you know and you not only want to get
  414. 13:36outside you want to make it a conscious
  415. 13:38experience
  416. 13:39you want to breathe the fresh air and
  417. 13:41feel the sun on your skin
  418. 13:43feel the earth under your feet listen to
  419. 13:46the birds
  420. 13:47maybe bring some of your activities
  421. 13:49outside
  422. 13:50instead of exercising at the gym maybe
  423. 13:52go for a long run or for a bike ride
  424. 13:54do your reading outside do you know your
  425. 13:57work outside if you can
  426. 13:59or plan a garden whatever it takes
  427. 14:02get a dialogue going between yourself
  428. 14:05and this beautiful world that we live in
  429. 14:08it's a fantastic way
  430. 14:09to connect with your spirituality to
  431. 14:12connect with nature
  432. 14:13another spiritual practice you could
  433. 14:15choose for the remainder of this
  434. 14:16challenge
  435. 14:17is the practice of giving the practice
  436. 14:19of contribution
  437. 14:21giving of yourself to others it's it's
  438. 14:23one of the fundamental
  439. 14:24pillars of spirituality every great
  440. 14:27religion teaches it
  441. 14:29and it's every bit as beneficial to you
  442. 14:31as the giver
  443. 14:32as it is to the receiver there's just a
  444. 14:35huge
  445. 14:36payoff for caring about and forgiving to
  446. 14:39others and we can often be a little bit
  447. 14:42blind to that payoff if we're totally
  448. 14:44consumed with ourselves
  449. 14:46and our own lives giving to others
  450. 14:48creates an internal sense of
  451. 14:50goodness it creates an internal sense of
  452. 14:53significance
  453. 14:54and value which are foundational
  454. 14:56qualities for self-esteem and for inner
  455. 14:58peace
  456. 14:59which is why it just ties back into
  457. 15:00spirituality so well
  458. 15:03every time you interact with someone you
  459. 15:05have the opportunity to
  460. 15:06give some kind of value to that person
  461. 15:09whether it's
  462. 15:10you're giving a thing you know money
  463. 15:13a gesture a kind word you can give
  464. 15:16generously and directly from your heart
  465. 15:20and you can share a part of yourself
  466. 15:21with someone else
  467. 15:23and as the joy of giving flows out of
  468. 15:25you new riches always flow in
  469. 15:27new riches always fill your life saint
  470. 15:31anthony said
  471. 15:32the more you give the more you have the
  472. 15:34more water you draw
  473. 15:36the more abundant is its flow
  474. 15:39so you can commit to giving to others
  475. 15:41every single day
  476. 15:43through the end of this challenge just
  477. 15:44think about what that would do
  478. 15:46for your life it would be amazing
  479. 15:48another spiritual practice you could
  480. 15:50choose for the remainder of this
  481. 15:51challenge
  482. 15:52is the practice of self-acceptance
  483. 15:55one of the most powerful practices of
  484. 15:58any kind
  485. 15:59the single most important relationship
  486. 16:02in your entire life
  487. 16:03bar none is the relationship you have
  488. 16:06with yourself
  489. 16:07it's the core of your entire life
  490. 16:08experience a place from which all other
  491. 16:11relationships start
  492. 16:13simply put in order to accept and love
  493. 16:16others
  494. 16:17we've first got to learn how to accept
  495. 16:20and love ourselves
  496. 16:22as ayn rand said to say i love you
  497. 16:25one must first know how to say the i
  498. 16:30we can learn to treat ourselves with the
  499. 16:31same kind of love and respect that we
  500. 16:33give to others which is very very hard
  501. 16:35for some people has been hard for me in
  502. 16:37my life
  503. 16:38if we can learn how to judge ourselves
  504. 16:40less harshly
  505. 16:41and how to welcome our emotions more
  506. 16:43freely into our lives
  507. 16:45to find inner joy in being exactly who
  508. 16:47we are even with all of our
  509. 16:49imperfections
  510. 16:50then and only then can we experience
  511. 16:54true happiness and true spiritual
  512. 16:57harmony
  513. 16:59so you may just set a goal for this
  514. 17:02month to just be kinder to yourself
  515. 17:04just release a little bit of self-doubt
  516. 17:06and self-criticism
  517. 17:08every day be willing to embrace your own
  518. 17:11faults instead of
  519. 17:12pushing them down so you can learn from
  520. 17:14them and so that you can grow past them
  521. 17:16marcus aurelius said something
  522. 17:18incredibly wise about this subject he
  523. 17:20said
  524. 17:21he who lives in harmony with himself
  525. 17:23lives in harmony
  526. 17:24with the whole universe so over the next
  527. 17:27couple weeks
  528. 17:28during the the course of this challenge
  529. 17:30you could commit
  530. 17:31to self-acceptance every single day
  531. 17:35and that would be a game changer
  532. 17:38so those are just a few of the spiritual
  533. 17:40practices that you could choose from for
  534. 17:41this challenge
  535. 17:42or again feel free to pick your own like
  536. 17:45committing to your morning affirmation
  537. 17:47every morning which is one of my
  538. 17:48favorites
  539. 17:49or spending some time reading the bible
  540. 17:51or practicing
  541. 17:52gratitude or writing in your gratitude
  542. 17:55journal or
  543. 17:56simply focus on being happy every single
  544. 17:58day consciously
  545. 17:59as a discipline whatever you choose the
  546. 18:02key
  547. 18:03is do it take action
  548. 18:06make a 100 commitment to practicing the
  549. 18:09spiritual discipline that you've chosen
  550. 18:10every single day
  551. 18:12it's as simple as that that's how to get
  552. 18:14this stuff to work
  553. 18:16and you should expect change real
