  1. 0:02hey there welcome back Pizza Hut
  2. 0:05fans so let's look at some Pizza Huts
  3. 0:12again so here's Pizza Huts they're
  4. 0:15beautiful I went to a Pizza Hut in chong
  5. 0:18ching China right there in the
  6. 0:21center and it was packed and nobody's
  7. 0:24eating pizza they're eating all sorts of
  8. 0:26other good stuff but nobody's eating
  9. 0:28pizza I'm thinking this is kind of
  10. 0:31strange why aren't they eating pizza and
  11. 0:33then I found out that in central China
  12. 0:36most people don't like pizza so my wife
  13. 0:38is from South Central China and she said
  14. 0:41when she first came to the United States
  15. 0:42she could not understand how somebody
  16. 0:44could eat pizza she thought that that
  17. 0:46was just like the cheese was like three
  18. 0:49kinds of
  19. 0:50gross and
  20. 0:52uh yeah so they're not big cheese eaters
  21. 0:55but they do have pizzas there so here's
  22. 0:58a picture of some of the p pizzas that
  23. 1:00they have and I'll send you this link so
  24. 1:02you can go look at them but they've got
  25. 1:04they don't look like normal pizzas do
  26. 1:07they yeah they had all sorts of ones
  27. 1:11they had I saw one that was mayonnaise
  28. 1:13and tuna
  29. 1:14Pizza
  30. 1:17yeah so uh I I saw all these weird
  31. 1:20pizzas they're just not really what I
  32. 1:22was expecting so then I decided um I
  33. 1:25would order What's called the American
  34. 1:27Pizza now you can't go wrong with
  35. 1:30American Pizza if you're an American
  36. 1:31like this face is and you're getting an
  37. 1:34American Pizza how can it's got to be
  38. 1:38pretty good right or at least has to be
  39. 1:40something that I would recognize
  40. 1:43right no no I have no idea what was on
  41. 1:48the American Pizza um let's just say I
  42. 1:52didn't finish
  43. 1:54it and I was dying for some pizza
  44. 1:56because I've been in China for a long
  45. 1:58time I'm like oh give me some Pizza I
  46. 2:00didn't finish it because it was not
  47. 2:04really what I was
  48. 2:08into oops I don't know why stopped
  49. 2:13sharing there
  50. 2:16so one pizza I saw and this was a pizza
  51. 2:21there at the Pizza Hut there you
  52. 2:25go no I didn't order this but uh it ah
  53. 2:31yeah it was unique so you have hot dogs
  54. 2:35rolled up in pizza dough around the
  55. 2:38edges then you have
  56. 2:42mayonnaise
  57. 2:46fish yeah I
  58. 2:49just can you imagine going to a Pizza
  59. 2:51Hut in the United States and getting
  60. 2:55this delivered to you no no they were
  61. 2:57drinking milkshakes they were drink they
  62. 2:59had all sorts of good yummies but just
  63. 3:01the pizzas weren't really what they you
  64. 3:04were thinking of a Pizza Hut
  65. 3:07pizza okay so doing business in China
  66. 3:09talk about doing business in China yes
  67. 3:11there there are some challenges to doing
  68. 3:13business in China but there's a lot of
  69. 3:15money to be made all sorts of companies
  70. 3:18very few companies are saying hey we
  71. 3:19don't want to be in China because it's
  72. 3:22it's
  73. 3:23a uh such a lucrative field but what's
  74. 3:27interesting about China is
  75. 3:30China that remember we said they had two
  76. 3:32governments right the top government
  77. 3:34which is Communist party and the bottom
  78. 3:35government which is like the local
  79. 3:37government right the local government is
  80. 3:39very structured and it's got its roots
  81. 3:40in Confucianism which is a real old
  82. 3:43tradition some people say it's you mean
  83. 3:45it's a religious law country it's not a
  84. 3:47religious law country it's
  85. 3:50um uh Confucianism is more of a way than
  86. 3:54it is a religion you could say it's a
  87. 3:56religion but it's more of a way of
  88. 3:57thinking it's like being a Democrat is a
  89. 3:59way of thinking and being Republican
  90. 4:01kind of a way of thinking and being
  91. 4:02libertarian kind of a way of thinking
  92. 4:05also being a Catholic is kind of a way
  93. 4:07of thinking so that's kind of what it's
  94. 4:09kind of a way right but the idea in
  95. 4:12confusion ism is that you can't own
  96. 4:16intellectual property there's no such
  97. 4:18thing as owning an idea so in the United
  98. 4:21States if I write a book of poems and
  99. 4:25you say you read those poems and you say
  100. 4:27wow those are good poems right then you
  101. 4:30take my book my poems write make your
  102. 4:33own book with my poems in them put your
  103. 4:36name on them and sell them that's
  104. 4:38illegal you can't do that in the United
  105. 4:40States that goes against intellectual
  106. 4:42property rights because I made the poems
  107. 4:44I own those poems right under confusion
  108. 4:48ISM there's no such thing as
  109. 4:50intellectual property rights you can't
  110. 4:52own an
  111. 4:54idea right so under under confusion ISM
  112. 4:58under the lower Lev of government in
  113. 5:01China if I write a book on poems you
  114. 5:05read my book of poems you say that's a
  115. 5:08darn good book of poems right I'm gonna
  116. 5:11put my name on that so then you can
  117. 5:14erase my name put your name on it and
  118. 5:16sell it and make lots of money on it
  119. 5:18right and that is considered perfectly
  120. 5:20legal in fact you are actually honoring
  121. 5:24Me by taking my poems and putting your
  122. 5:27name on it because if they weren't very
  123. 5:28good poems
  124. 5:30why would you put your name on yeah so
  125. 5:34we got kind of a problem going there
  126. 5:36right right so um that's why there's a
  127. 5:39lot of problems with intellectual
  128. 5:41property rights in China um there's ways
  129. 5:44to get around them right but they still
  130. 5:48they still have have some these so one
  131. 5:50of the things is China the government
  132. 5:52the Communist Party joined the
  133. 5:56WTO and the WTO says oh
  134. 6:00under Gat we have to honor intellectual
  135. 6:04property rights so the Communist Party
  136. 6:07says oh we honor those rights the lower
  137. 6:10level of government
  138. 6:11says not so much right so they kind of
  139. 6:14have a little war going on on
  140. 6:16intellectual property rights right and
  141. 6:18you'll see this if you go to China very
  142. 6:20long you will see it happen right so
  143. 6:23there's places where they have knocked
  144. 6:24off everything right I've been malls
  145. 6:27where there is nothing there that is
  146. 6:29original from the company that should
  147. 6:31have made it so you want to buy a Gucci
  148. 6:33watch you can buy a Gucci watch for like
  149. 6:3630 bucks and don't worry it will last at
  150. 6:40least a week before it breaks but you
  151. 6:42can go and buy one or you can buy a
  152. 6:44Rolex B Rolex yeah let's get some fake
  153. 6:47Rolexes so you've got these Villages
  154. 6:49these little malls where they have all
  155. 6:51this knockoff stuff which is technically
  156. 6:53against the WTO they're not supposed to
  157. 6:55have it so every once in a while the
  158. 6:57Communist Party says oh we're going to
  159. 6:59go ra this this uh Village or this uh
  160. 7:02this um uh what do you call it this uh
  161. 7:06mall with all this knockoff stuff we're
  162. 7:09gonna go raid it next week we're gonna
  163. 7:10raid it next Wednesday right so what do
  164. 7:13you think happens Tuesday night
  165. 7:15everybody takes their stuff home they
  166. 7:17leave all the broken stuff that from the
  167. 7:19knockoffs there then they rush in
  168. 7:22Wednesday morning with cameras flashing
  169. 7:25and they go look we're getting all this
  170. 7:27illegal stuff and it's basically all
  171. 7:30broken trash that didn't work in the
  172. 7:32first place right and then they clear it
  173. 7:34out and they say hey that's good okay we
  174. 7:36really solve that problem there's no
  175. 7:37more illegal stuff in that in that
  176. 7:40building a week later everybody moves
  177. 7:42back to their stuff and they put the
  178. 7:43same stuff back on there and the way
  179. 7:46they go and so it just it just Cycles
  180. 7:48through right it's it's kind of a
  181. 7:50interesting thing so um one big problem
  182. 7:54that that company that um Western
  183. 7:56companies have had in China was movies
  184. 7:59they used to have DVD movies pirated
  185. 8:01movies all over the place I mean the WTO
  186. 8:05said that 95% of all movies in China
  187. 8:09were
  188. 8:11bootlegged I think that's a wrong number
  189. 8:13I think it's 100% you just they had
  190. 8:16these guys everywhere everywhere you go
  191. 8:18there's guys selling CDs or DVDs that
  192. 8:22they they they used their cell phone and
  193. 8:25they watched the movie and they recorded
  194. 8:27it and so you'll see people get up and
  195. 8:29walk by and the quality of those things
  196. 8:31was so low you really could you had to
  197. 8:33buy three or four copies to make sure
  198. 8:35you got one that worked um um but that
  199. 8:39don't really have that problem anymore
  200. 8:40because now everybody streams them so
  201. 8:42why would you pay five for a bootleg
  202. 8:46copy of something that you can't really
  203. 8:48understand when you can get a streaming
  204. 8:50service for $10 and watch multiple
  205. 8:52movies so there are ways to get around
  206. 8:55this but you just have to be kind of
  207. 8:58kind of uh careful
  208. 9:00now let's talk about the the the India
  209. 9:03now I like to think of China and India
  210. 9:05as brothers right they love each other
  211. 9:07they hate each other right so do you
  212. 9:10ever get in a fight with your brother or
  213. 9:13sister yeah right I've got a daughter
  214. 9:16and a son they fight every single day
  215. 9:19that is what they do right they still
  216. 9:21love each other they still play with
  217. 9:22each other but they fight right so give
  218. 9:25you an idea of what it's like between
  219. 9:26China and India they're just they're so
  220. 9:28much like brothers so they have a border
  221. 9:31right and they can't agree on where the
  222. 9:32border is right but they say okay here
  223. 9:35it's kind of here and everybody's happy
  224. 9:37well then one side says no the Border
  225. 9:39goes like this then the other side says
  226. 9:42really no the Border goes like this and
  227. 9:45then they get real mad at each other and
  228. 9:47they might even kill a few of each other
  229. 9:49usually they beat each other up the
  230. 9:50sticks and stuff like that right it's
  231. 9:52not real war but it's still it's kind of
  232. 9:54a little Skirmish and they go and then
  233. 9:57they realize we're arguing over a piece
  234. 10:00of rock that nobody can even live on
  235. 10:02this is silly for people to die for this
  236. 10:05so they say let's put it back to the to
  237. 10:07the the original borders and everybody
  238. 10:08says yes so they put it back to the
  239. 10:10original border and then one side says
  240. 10:12no here's the original
  241. 10:15border it goes through again and then
  242. 10:18they just have this ongoing low-level
  243. 10:20conflict but they're really interesting
  244. 10:22so China is the largest popul country in
  245. 10:25the world and the the Chinese government
  246. 10:29does not like that they would prefer to
  247. 10:32have fewer people as we talked about
  248. 10:34they they've implemented some policies
  249. 10:36for that India their brother see if your
  250. 10:41brother does something don't you want to
  251. 10:42do
  252. 10:43it yeah yeah yeah yeah you do you want
  253. 10:46it so China is the number one populist
  254. 10:49country in the world right the Indian
  255. 10:51government their goal is to beat
  256. 10:56China why you would want to beat China
  257. 10:58on this dubious thing I don't know but
  258. 11:01the Indian government says we're gonna
  259. 11:02beat China they actually encourage you
  260. 11:04to have kids in India second most
  261. 11:07populous country in the world and they
  262. 11:09will surpass China's population in
  263. 11:122030 now if you know anything about
  264. 11:14China you'll know that uh chairman ma
  265. 11:17he's basically the guy who created
  266. 11:19modern China said oh we need to have
  267. 11:22lots of people everybody says that that
  268. 11:25was pretty much a mistake that he made
  269. 11:28so he's very revered in China everybody
  270. 11:31loves terman ma but most people will say
  271. 11:35that one wasn't really quite thought
  272. 11:37through that was probably a mistake
  273. 11:39right India says now we want to be the
  274. 11:41most populous country because the more
  275. 11:43people you have the more influence you
  276. 11:44have and the more you can do which makes
  277. 11:48a little bit of
  278. 11:50sense but if you have 30 children is
  279. 11:54that is your family really as functional
  280. 11:56as if you had three children
  281. 12:00it's GNA be he can see some problems
  282. 12:02there can you so so China has one
  283. 12:07primary language it's Mandarin right
  284. 12:09most people in China speak Mandarin
  285. 12:12right now there are other langu multiple
  286. 12:14languages in China for instance my wife
  287. 12:17her mother doesn't speak Mandarin at all
  288. 12:20she speaks tuja doesn't know word of
  289. 12:23Mandarin right but most people know
  290. 12:26Mandarin in fact you can travel anywhere
  291. 12:28in China and I travel all over China and
  292. 12:31I I go with my friends and they all
  293. 12:33spoke Mandarin and we they could get us
  294. 12:35we could go anywhere and do anything you
  295. 12:36want there's always somebody who speaks
  296. 12:39mandar
  297. 12:41India has over 200 official
  298. 12:45languages and the 200 official languages
  299. 12:48that are spoken in up to 500 different
  300. 12:50dialects and a lot of people think well
  301. 12:53dialect dialect is an accent so you go
  302. 12:55down Texas and they talk like this and
  303. 12:58you say hey that's an dialect that's an
  304. 13:00accent a dialect is where two people
  305. 13:03speak the same language and can't
  306. 13:06understand each
  307. 13:08other yeah so multiple languages well
  308. 13:11how do you do business in India we're
  309. 13:13knowing 500 different languages uh it's
  310. 13:16actually quite quite easy because the
  311. 13:18official language for business is R
  312. 13:24roll
  313. 13:26English all contracts are written in
  314. 13:28English everything is done in English
  315. 13:30because India used to be under the
  316. 13:32British
  317. 13:34Empire and they established all the
  318. 13:36legal systems with with uh in English
  319. 13:39and everything's done in English it's
  320. 13:41the current it's a currency so and so
  321. 13:43I've traveled all through India you meet
  322. 13:46all these people and everybody speaks
  323. 13:48English especially in the uh the more
  324. 13:51educated areas so when you meet uh you
  325. 13:54meet government officials and Business
  326. 13:55Leaders their English is perfect they
  327. 13:58speak very good English and you go
  328. 14:00around and most people can speak some
  329. 14:03English and then if you get to to areas
  330. 14:05where people aren't very educated there
  331. 14:07are some people then you might have some
  332. 14:09troubles but then all you do is just
  333. 14:11find somebody who looks like they're
  334. 14:12more educated and ask them if they speak
  335. 14:15English and then they'll and you go do
  336. 14:17you speak English and then they'll say
  337. 14:20yes I speak English and they go oh great
  338. 14:22let can you help me and they will love
  339. 14:24to help you and it it works out really
  340. 14:26well now China is a communist country
  341. 14:31right it's Communist party right India
  342. 14:34is the world's largest democracy oh like
  343. 14:38the United States yep just like the
  344. 14:41United States oh well we should be
  345. 14:43really good
  346. 14:46friends we we're not enemies but we're
  347. 14:50not really friend they're kind of I
  348. 14:52think they're probably a little
  349. 14:53friendlier with Russia than they are
  350. 14:55with
  351. 14:56us yeah yeah yeah so it's the world's
  352. 14:59largest
  353. 15:01democracy uh with the United States we
  354. 15:03don't get along and the reason we don't
  355. 15:05get along quite so well with India is
  356. 15:08because India has something called a
  357. 15:12dialectic okay has something called a
  358. 15:14dialectic a dialectic means you don't
  359. 15:17need to know this word it's not a
  360. 15:18business word but it basically means you
  361. 15:19got in India you have two populations
  362. 15:22right two populations you have the
  363. 15:25Hindus and the Muslims right and don't
  364. 15:29get along very well that's an
  365. 15:31understatement so when you hear
  366. 15:32conflicts all over the world about you
  367. 15:34know so so the Israelis don't get along
  368. 15:37with the with the Arabs or something
  369. 15:38like that that's nothing compared to the
  370. 15:41world class hate that's going on in
  371. 15:44India and has been going on in India
  372. 15:46between these two groups forever and
  373. 15:47ever and ever and uh it's getting better
  374. 15:51but it's still it's still pervasive
  375. 15:55right so um I I was in a um Shai India
  376. 16:01which I'll show you some pictures here
  377. 16:02in a little bit and when I was in shanai
  378. 16:04I um asked our our driver I said are are
  379. 16:09you uh Hindu or
  380. 16:12Muslim he looked at me very
  381. 16:15unhappily and he says I'm Muslim I go
  382. 16:19okay that's that's good he says I said I
  383. 16:22I heard that that you that the Muslims
  384. 16:24and the Hindus don't get along he says
  385. 16:27we don't get along
  386. 16:29and I Saidi heard it's getting better he
  387. 16:32says it's not getting better right it's
  388. 16:36we we do not get along I talked to him
  389. 16:39for a while and I found out that I asked
  390. 16:41him I said are you Hindu or Muslim he
  391. 16:43thought I should know ahead of
  392. 16:45time that was a bad question to ask and
  393. 16:48I'm like wow okay what do you do on this
  394. 16:52well I found out I did some research I
  395. 16:53found it it's really so in the United
  396. 16:56States if a normal American so you go to
  397. 17:00go there and they're going to say what
  398. 17:02do you think of my enemy right so
  399. 17:03they're either Hindu or Muslim and it's
  400. 17:05hard to tell from my persp I couldn't
  401. 17:07tell just by talking to them if they're
  402. 17:09dressed how they're dressed or something
  403. 17:10so they will they'll they'll say what do
  404. 17:13you what do you think of my enemy and
  405. 17:15all Americans gonna say oh we love both
  406. 17:17of you right and then they're gonna say
  407. 17:19well then I hate
  408. 17:21you it's a hard answer right and so you
  409. 17:24saywell what do you do because you will
  410. 17:26be asked the question right what do you
  411. 17:28say and there's one answer that gets you
  412. 17:30by every single time and this is
  413. 17:32wonderful
  414. 17:34it's I'm a dumb American I don't even
  415. 17:36know what that means right we don't even
  416. 17:39talk about that where I don't know what
  417. 17:41a Hindu or Muslim I don't know anything
  418. 17:44I'm just dumb and if you admit to being
  419. 17:46dumb they'll go okay well let me tell
  420. 17:49you these guys are bad and here's why
  421. 17:52they're bad okay they that's what
  422. 17:55happened right but you got to be done
  423. 17:57you don't you don't even try to finesse
  424. 17:59it don't say well you both have some
  425. 18:01good
  426. 18:02point business wise it will not it will
  427. 18:06not go very well for
  428. 18:08you okay so India has a very heavy
  429. 18:12bureaucracy bureaucracy means
  430. 18:14rules
  431. 18:17so the government controls a lot of
  432. 18:20stuff you do in business so in China the
  433. 18:24government controls a lot of business
  434. 18:25stuff too but a lot of that's done by
  435. 18:27the Chinese government or for these
  436. 18:29these ancient rules but they got two two
  437. 18:33different levels of government so if you
  438. 18:34want to do business in in China you make
  439. 18:36a friend in the Communist party and life
  440. 18:38goes real well it doesn't work that way
  441. 18:40in India it doesn't it's the official
  442. 18:44policy of India says that it will take
  443. 18:4613 weeks to complete the
  444. 18:50paperwork to start a business or to
  445. 18:52operate a business in
  446. 18:55India I think it's closer to 13 months
  447. 18:59it takes forever they have more
  448. 19:02bureaucracy than almost any other
  449. 19:04country now the Indian government loves
  450. 19:06a few things right they love Green
  451. 19:09Technology they really do because China
  452. 19:12loves Green Technology China big on
  453. 19:14winds Farms big own solar panels India
  454. 19:16says well they're getting into it we're
  455. 19:19g to get into it too and they India's
  456. 19:22not doing it because of their love for
  457. 19:24the environment which we'll talk about
  458. 19:27that they're doing it to make
  459. 19:29money
  460. 19:31so if you want to start to get a
  461. 19:34business up and running in China the
  462. 19:37Indian government
  463. 19:39believes that the dream job of an Indian
  464. 19:43person is to work at a large Factory or
  465. 19:45call center that's considered the drain
  466. 19:48job right and if you're a medium-sized
  467. 19:51company and you want to go into India
  468. 19:54they don't want you and so you see a
  469. 19:57mediumsized company we've got we want to
  470. 19:59hire 50 people in India and start to
  471. 20:01produce this they go oh why do we want
  472. 20:04why would we want to have you here right
  473. 20:07but no medium-sized companies they don't
  474. 20:10have medium-sized companies what about
  475. 20:11small companies they don't have small
  476. 20:13companies either so you would say I want
  477. 20:15to hire 10
  478. 20:16people they don't want
  479. 20:19you say small companies don't small
  480. 20:22companies are one of the reasons the
  481. 20:23United States is so successful I'll show
  482. 20:25you that here in a little bit but like
  483. 20:2795% of all businesses in the united
  484. 20:29states are considered small businesses
  485. 20:31that's why we're rich because we have
  486. 20:33all these wonderful little small
  487. 20:34businesses going in India you can't do
  488. 20:37it now if you want to sell gum on the
  489. 20:39corner or pencils or something sure but
  490. 20:41if you want a medium or small-sized
  491. 20:43business in India they they really don't
  492. 20:45want you with the exception of Green
  493. 20:47Technology they will make an exception
  494. 20:49for you in that but otherwise it's
  495. 20:52really tough to do business in um in
  496. 20:56India to give you an idea so it say we
  497. 20:58say it takes 13 weeks no more like 13
  498. 21:02months to get the paper in paperwork in
  499. 21:04to start your business United States you
  500. 21:07can get pretty much most of your stuff
  501. 21:08done in a week right the biggest thing
  502. 21:11is going to be your business license
  503. 21:12we'll talk more about business
  504. 21:14license um but in Hong Kong it's two
  505. 21:18hours yeah Hong Kong seems like a little
  506. 21:22bit easier place to do business than
  507. 21:24India and it is
  508. 21:30so dream jobs you know working in a
  509. 21:32factory is a dream job they want to have
  510. 21:35you do that now one of the things in um
  511. 21:39doing business in India is you have to
  512. 21:41be ready for religious holidays they
  513. 21:44have a bunch of religious holidays in
  514. 21:45fact I think they're one of the most I
  515. 21:49know they're one of the most uh relig
  516. 21:51have one of the most highest rates of
  517. 21:53religious holidays in the world they
  518. 21:55might be number one I doubt if they're
  519. 21:56number one because there's always some
  520. 21:57kind of little Village or island or
  521. 22:00something that says well we're going to
  522. 22:01beat India and everybody you know how
  523. 22:04that works right but for major country
  524. 22:07they have religious holidays all the
  525. 22:08time so when you go to do business in
  526. 22:10India you are GNA get caught in the
  527. 22:13middle of a holiday and just be ready
  528. 22:15for it it's fun you get to celebrate you
  529. 22:17get to go and do all the fun stuff that
  530. 22:19everybody else is doing but it's going
  531. 22:23to add a couple of days to your trip so
  532. 22:26just have build in a couple couple of
  533. 22:28days to just go travel and have fun and
  534. 22:30enjoy their holidays because that's
  535. 22:32going to happen to you now uh when you
  536. 22:35think of India most people think of
  537. 22:37Mumbai right which is used to be called
  538. 22:41Bombay uh Mumbai been to Mumbai there
  539. 22:43are people it's just packed it's teeing
  540. 22:46it's it's a
  541. 22:49little uncomfortable because there's so
  542. 22:52many people there I mean it's just you
  543. 22:54ever been to like a I don't know a fair
  544. 22:58or mall shopping mall and there just
  545. 23:00everybody's just packed in there and
  546. 23:02you're that way for a couple hours
  547. 23:03imagine be that way every day just see
  548. 23:06it it's a it gets pretty interesting so
  549. 23:09Mumbai is just packed with people but
  550. 23:11it's beautiful there's some beautiful
  551. 23:12beautiful gardens and it's really
  552. 23:14interesting to see them do washing
  553. 23:16laundry yeah washing washing laundry is
  554. 23:19actually that's a big tourist thing to
  555. 23:22have people come and wash watch them
  556. 23:24wash their laundry so if you ever go to
  557. 23:26Mumbai you got to see that it's it's not
  558. 23:29what you
  559. 23:30expect okay but most of the people are
  560. 23:33farmers and live out in the out rural
  561. 23:36area and you drive across India and you
  562. 23:38see all these Farmers all over the place
  563. 23:41yep it's it's pretty common
  564. 23:45there India has the most dangerous
  565. 23:47transportation system in the
  566. 23:51world
  567. 23:53period period right it is the most
  568. 23:56dangerous place to fly an airplane it's
  569. 23:58a dangerous most dangerous place to walk
  570. 24:00it's the most dangerous place to drive
  571. 24:02it's the most dangerous place to take a
  572. 24:03train so we've all seen those videos
  573. 24:05where we have the dude sitting on top of
  574. 24:07the train as the train goes across India
  575. 24:10y I never saw that I've went I've went
  576. 24:14I've been all over India you know I
  577. 24:16zigzagged it right I never saw a train
  578. 24:20with people on top now they might have
  579. 24:22them I don't know I didn't see them
  580. 24:25right but it's still dangerous so I went
  581. 24:27to shenai
  582. 24:29chenai is the
  583. 24:31South East part of India it's by Sri
  584. 24:35Lanka it's right it's it's a huge City
  585. 24:37it's like 13 million people or something
  586. 24:39like that so went to
  587. 24:42shanai imagine a city like 13 million or
  588. 24:45something like it's a huge City they had
  589. 24:47no trash
  590. 24:49service now the air was clean the air
  591. 24:52was sparkling clean which we'll talk
  592. 24:54because of Green Technology they're
  593. 24:55really into Green Technology there
  594. 24:59just to make money not because they care
  595. 25:00of the environment and that there's just
  596. 25:03there's no trash service in the city now
  597. 25:05imagine a major city with no trash
  598. 25:08service what do you do with the
  599. 25:10trash if there's no trash service what
  600. 25:13do you do well you throw it out on the
  601. 25:15streets right so that you if you go to
  602. 25:19chenai you go to let's say you go to a a
  603. 25:22store right you walk in the store get
  604. 25:25what you want to get you walk out
  605. 25:27there's no sidewalks
  606. 25:28it's just trash I mean trash everywhere
  607. 25:32right so if you want to go
  608. 25:35someplace how do you go with all the
  609. 25:37trash when you walk in the
  610. 25:39streets yeah that gets really
  611. 25:43exciting and not exciting in a good way
  612. 25:45and so you have to basically people
  613. 25:48everybody's out there walking in the
  614. 25:49streets so you got these cars zooming by
  615. 25:51these tuck tuck zooming by and you're
  616. 25:52out walking in the streets and it
  617. 25:55gets nervous it gets scary
  618. 25:59okay also India has some of the most
  619. 26:02polluted countries cities in the world
  620. 26:05most people you say what's the where the
  621. 26:07where's the most pollution they'll say
  622. 26:09China right everybody's gonna say
  623. 26:11China's the most polluted and yes there
  624. 26:13are parts of China that are very
  625. 26:14polluted there parts of China that
  626. 26:16aren't polluted at all but some of the
  627. 26:18major cities can be pretty bad uh let's
  628. 26:22see how India competes with
  629. 26:26China so
  630. 26:2815 of the most polluted cities in the
  631. 26:31world are in ch let's look at the top
  632. 26:3420 so this
  633. 26:37guy says 15 of most polluted cities of
  634. 26:40the world are in China no way let's see
  635. 26:43who's number one Delhi I've been to
  636. 26:46Delhi I will show you pictures of Delhi
  637. 26:50it's very polluted yeah the the the
  638. 26:53iPhone when you go there you know you
  639. 26:54have your little weather app and you
  640. 26:56click on it my iPhone said the weather
  641. 27:00was Smoke said well it gets bad here in
  642. 27:03Seattle yeah what for a week two weeks
  643. 27:08no this is like smoke and it was it was
  644. 27:12as bad as anything you've ever seen here
  645. 27:15but consistently like that in
  646. 27:17Delhi then you got Patna so we got
  647. 27:21India India India
  648. 27:26India Pakistan Pakistan Pakistan
  649. 27:31Iran
  650. 27:32India India India Qatar India India
  651. 27:38India turkey Bangladesh India India
  652. 27:43India who's number
  653. 27:45one India and not necessarily is a good
  654. 27:48way is it no no no no now Agra okay B to
  655. 27:53Agra you've all seen pictures of Agra
  656. 27:56you've heard of something called the to
  657. 27:58Taj
  658. 27:59Mahal yep I've been to the Taj Mahal it
  659. 28:03does not look like those pictures you've
  660. 28:06seen the pictures it doesn't look like
  661. 28:08that you can't see it no you can't I was
  662. 28:12there and was it it was so Smoky you see
  663. 28:16the
  664. 28:17shadows and but you don't if you look at
  665. 28:20the pictures it's quite beautiful they
  666. 28:22picked a day when the wind came from the
  667. 28:24right direction just rained or something
  668. 28:25I don't know it doesn't look like that
  669. 28:27it's is just there's so much smoke you
  670. 28:30can't you've got to get pretty close to
  671. 28:32see it so you know the picture where
  672. 28:34it's got that beautiful little Pond that
  673. 28:35goes right up to the Taj Mahal you see
  674. 28:38the beautiful little Pond and then you
  675. 28:40see it looks almost like a cloud in the
  676. 28:43back and then it comes out of the smoke
  677. 28:46as you walk to it but that's just to
  678. 28:49give you an idea uh of what the
  679. 28:52pollution air pollution is like in in
  680. 28:55India okay uh here I took this
  681. 28:59picture from my hotel in Delhi in
  682. 29:042015 yeah right say well that's not so
  683. 29:08bad that was when it cleared
  684. 29:11up this was outside my hotel room well
  685. 29:15Andy it looks like that in Seattle
  686. 29:17sometimes this is com this is what it's
  687. 29:20like why do you think Deli got number
  688. 29:22one not because it's a you know what's
  689. 29:25weird is Deli is actually clean
  690. 29:28City doesn't look clean me now there's s
  691. 29:32everywhere but they have trash service
  692. 29:34they keep it really spotless I it's it's
  693. 29:38the there's no trash on the sidewalk or
  694. 29:40anything they keep it really really
  695. 29:41clean and yet you can't see the sun you
  696. 29:44can barely see the Sun out there yeah
  697. 29:47yeah pretty crazy so Deli is different
  698. 29:50than Shai right so Del's big city Shai's
  699. 29:53big city here's a picture shanai now I
  700. 29:56didn't take this picture but uh this was
  701. 29:58taken in 2015 when I was in Shai so Shai
  702. 30:03is this big city remember no trash
  703. 30:06service but very clean
  704. 30:08air so while I was in Shai the first
  705. 30:11couple days I was in Shai I'm running
  706. 30:13around having fun exploring the seeing
  707. 30:17all the temples and stuff like that it
  708. 30:18was really really cool then we had a
  709. 30:21monsoon
  710. 30:23hit the monsoon dropped over 3 feet of
  711. 30:28rain in one
  712. 30:31day
  713. 30:33oh also the monsoon caused their their
  714. 30:38reservoirs to fill up to full and they
  715. 30:42were worried about the dams were going
  716. 30:44to you just heard I just said dams again
  717. 30:46didn't I yeah had to had to get that in
  718. 30:50there again the
  719. 30:51dams they were worried that they were
  720. 30:53going to
  721. 30:55break so they decided to release
  722. 30:58a lot of water press to to lower the
  723. 31:01pressure so so now you have three feet
  724. 31:03of rain plus all this damn water coming
  725. 31:07down right and it flooded the city so
  726. 31:12this picture here is the
  727. 31:16airport yeah right airports are usually
  728. 31:19put kind of higher
  729. 31:22areas and it's still flooded just to
  730. 31:24give you an idea how much flooding they
  731. 31:27have see see all those little airplane
  732. 31:29those those Jets they were all
  733. 31:32submerged no they're
  734. 31:36underwater yeah what do you do with a
  735. 31:39jumbo jet that has been
  736. 31:43submerged you throw it
  737. 31:45away think how or you might try to save
  738. 31:49it I don't want to fly in that airplane
  739. 31:51yeah so think how much money that cost
  740. 31:55them okay so
  741. 31:58all this water comes in so I'm staying
  742. 32:00at a hotel now India is kind of
  743. 32:02interesting we'll find out in India your
  744. 32:04money goes a long ways in India but the
  745. 32:07problem is there are only two types of
  746. 32:10hotels super nice or super scary you
  747. 32:13don't want to go to those are the only
  748. 32:15two there's nothing else right so I
  749. 32:18stayed at a hotel and it was super nice
  750. 32:21and it wasn't that expens it cost like
  751. 32:22$225 to $250 a night which you say
  752. 32:26that's a lot of money not for a hotel
  753. 32:28like this this was the nicest hotel I've
  754. 32:31ever been to in my entire life so I'm
  755. 32:34staying but to give you an idea how nice
  756. 32:36it was Arnold Schwarzenegger had visited
  757. 32:38a few weeks earlier he stayed at that
  758. 32:41hotel right
  759. 32:43so real nice so I meant this in this
  760. 32:46hotel and the water just comes down down
  761. 32:48down well it's built on a hill so they
  762. 32:51had their own water source their own
  763. 32:53power
  764. 32:55source we had cable TV
  765. 32:58I'm watching movies I'm drinking beer
  766. 33:00I'm eating really really really good
  767. 33:03Indian food and I'm looking out my
  768. 33:08window and I'm seeing things like
  769. 33:12this see that's the those are
  770. 33:16buildings yeah right and this is in some
  771. 33:19of the higher streets most of the
  772. 33:20streets you could not get across you
  773. 33:22wouldn't be able to have somebody you'd
  774. 33:23have to swim and push them
  775. 33:26across why
  776. 33:28wow wow wow wow so had it was really
  777. 33:31weird so here I am I'm around people are
  778. 33:35dying all over the place I mean they're
  779. 33:37dying right this is bad and I'm drinking
  780. 33:41a beer with air conditioning watching a
  781. 33:43movie and I'm looking out my window and
  782. 33:45I see people who are dying and it's like
  783. 33:48really messes with your head to to be
  784. 33:51that opulent luxury in seeing people who
  785. 33:56they don't even have water now they have
  786. 33:58water you don't want to drink this water
  787. 33:59because what did we say about the trash
  788. 34:02service they didn't have a trash service
  789. 34:05so what do you think happened when these
  790. 34:07floods come
  791. 34:09through yeah mixes with the
  792. 34:13trash so think about what that water's
  793. 34:16like right so then it rain then the
  794. 34:19monsoon goes away and it got to be like
  795. 34:21a 100° so now you're flooded with
  796. 34:26100° no water
  797. 34:29no
  798. 34:30food it was bad right you did not want
  799. 34:33it it it was pretty
  800. 34:37scary so Shai gets 50% of their energy
  801. 34:42from Renewables they love renewable they
  802. 34:44love solar they do mostly solar there's
  803. 34:47it's not there's not much wind in that
  804. 34:48part of there so there's almost no air
  805. 34:51pollution all the air pollution comes
  806. 34:53from is the U
  807. 34:55uh uh air pollution comes from the cars
  808. 34:59that's about it the tuck
  809. 35:01tucks now now what's interesting about
  810. 35:04them is they really want Green
  811. 35:05Technology in fact they will give you a
  812. 35:09100% tax credit for green power
  813. 35:15Investments what what do that mean 100%
  814. 35:18tax credit which basically means if you
  815. 35:20go to build something that involves
  816. 35:22Green
  817. 35:23Technology they will pretty much you
  818. 35:26build it for free
  819. 35:29yeah and not because they're Tree
  820. 35:31Huggers or care about the environment or
  821. 35:33anything no it's to make
  822. 35:37money now next country we're gonna talk
  823. 35:39about is different it's different uh a
  824. 35:44lot of people call this country
  825. 35:45Disneyland with the death
  826. 35:47penalty right so we've all been to
  827. 35:49Disneyland or if you haven't been to
  828. 35:51Disneyland you know what Disneyland is
  829. 35:53like right right we all know
  830. 35:55Disneyland's very clean you walk why I
  831. 35:58saw some dirty stuff not very long I
  832. 36:00mean plus you got little kids running
  833. 36:01around trust me little kids making mess
  834. 36:03out of everything considering they got
  835. 36:05little kids it's pretty clean safe
  836. 36:07people don't die in Disneyland you don't
  837. 36:09hear about murders
  838. 36:11or fires or anything like that
  839. 36:15Disneyland real high-tech this country
  840. 36:18is really
  841. 36:19Hightech right Su super
  842. 36:22high-tech uh they have rules and they
  843. 36:24enforce the rules say Disney has rules
  844. 36:28oh yeah you got to be this tall to ride
  845. 36:30this ride you got to they got rules for
  846. 36:33everything you know they actually have a
  847. 36:34dress code in Disneyland so I was in
  848. 36:37Disneyland once and I was getting ready
  849. 36:39to get on this roller coaster and the
  850. 36:40woman in front of me before she got on
  851. 36:42the roller coaster was a hot day she
  852. 36:44took off her sweatshirt and she has on a
  853. 36:46tube toop you guys know tube toop right
  854. 36:49she gets on the roller coaster roller
  855. 36:50coaster starts to move they stop it then
  856. 36:54all these Disney nerds swarm her Place
  857. 36:58blocking the view of her sitting in the
  858. 37:01roller coaster and make her put her
  859. 37:03clothes back
  860. 37:04on so they have a dress code they have
  861. 37:06hair codes well I wouldn't have to worry
  862. 37:08too much about the hair Cod this country
  863. 37:10has a dress code this country has hair
  864. 37:12codes there are only certain ways you
  865. 37:13can wear your
  866. 37:14hair wow this country has no social or
  867. 37:17religious Strife in other words
  868. 37:19everybody loves each other's culture now
  869. 37:22say you go they love each other yeah go
  870. 37:25to Disneyland It's a SP world after all
  871. 37:29it's a small world yeah to get that song
  872. 37:32in your head and it never leaves and you
  873. 37:35go to Disneyland and they say here this
  874. 37:37is what like in Asia here's what it's
  875. 37:39like in Africa here's what it's like in
  876. 37:42uh Saudi Arabia they tell you about what
  877. 37:44it's like all over the world and they
  878. 37:45tell you all the wonderful Parts about
  879. 37:47that well this country they do the same
  880. 37:52thing there's no poverty none there's no
  881. 37:56poverty there's some wealth but there's
  882. 37:58no poverty you don't see there's no
  883. 37:59homelessness nobody Sleeps on the on the
  884. 38:02the ground it's it's clean nobody Sleeps
  885. 38:05nobody cuts in line right no you stay in
  886. 38:09the lines no sick people what do you
  887. 38:11mean no sick go to Disneyland do you see
  888. 38:13people who are sick nope same here what
  889. 38:17do they do with their sick people they
  890. 38:18put them in the hospital they have
  891. 38:20excellent Health Care wow wow wow um
  892. 38:24it's easy to get around they actually
  893. 38:25have Sky trams in this country Sky TR so
  894. 38:29you've been to Disneyland you know they
  895. 38:30got the little tram Gondola thingy goes
  896. 38:32up in the air and then go this city has
  897. 38:35those
  898. 38:37two this city country I just gave you a
  899. 38:41hint this country City also has musicals
  900. 38:45musicals musicals so if you've been to
  901. 38:47Disneyland you know be walking around
  902. 38:49all of a sudden one person will start to
  903. 38:50sing and then a few other people come
  904. 38:53there and they'll sing and at first you
  905. 38:55go what's this person say and then you
  906. 38:56realize oh their employees and they're
  907. 38:58going to put on a little show for you
  908. 39:00they do that in this country they have
  909. 39:02big
  910. 39:03musicals and English is widely
  911. 39:06spoken they say what
  912. 39:09country could this
  913. 39:13be a lot of people say oh they come up
  914. 39:17with all these different places it's
  915. 39:18like no
  916. 39:21it's
  917. 39:23Singapore Singapore is uh Singapore is
  918. 39:27Disneyland land with the death penalty
  919. 39:28yeah yeah yeah so he says it's uh
  920. 39:31there's no crime where does it say no
  921. 39:34crime it's a safe it's safe there's no
  922. 39:37crime in Singapore there isn't right so
  923. 39:41uh there's no drugs they don't have
  924. 39:43illegal drugs they just don't have them
  925. 39:46say well they got have something they
  926. 39:47don't have them because when you go to
  927. 39:50Singapore whenever you travel to another
  928. 39:52country they always give you a little
  929. 39:54card a little card it's called an
  930. 39:56immigration card right every country has
  931. 39:58this right the one in Singapore when you
  932. 40:01write all your your immigration
  933. 40:04information on there you It also says in
  934. 40:07big bold red
  935. 40:10letters I understand that if I bring in
  936. 40:13illegal drugs there is only one penalty
  937. 40:15and that is the death penalty and then
  938. 40:17you have to sign your name next to
  939. 40:21it
  940. 40:23yeah and it is like you well they don't
  941. 40:26really they enforce it right in fact not
  942. 40:29very long ago this uh woman went into
  943. 40:32Disneyland with a piece of marijuana oh
  944. 40:36sorry piece of heroin right the
  945. 40:41heroin was about as big as this
  946. 40:44cap right right so tiny tiny Mount just
  947. 40:50dead done bam is this yours yep bam
  948. 40:55right they don't they don't care around
  949. 40:57right so you don't bring in illegal they
  950. 41:00just don't have it yeah well let's look
  951. 41:03at Disneyland
  952. 41:09here so here's one of the sky
  953. 41:13trams yeah doesn't this look like
  954. 41:16doesn't this look like
  955. 41:20Disneyland yeah yeah it it
  956. 41:23does yeah so they they've got the
  957. 41:28want that one yeah pretty crazy so
  958. 41:32English is the the major language so it
  959. 41:34used to be part of Malaysia and in the
  960. 41:38mid-60s they broke off and they said we
  961. 41:40want to be our own country it's got
  962. 41:42strong British Roots so there's a lot of
  963. 41:43British influence in U uh Singapore um
  964. 41:48it's kind of like New York City New York
  965. 41:51City is big enough that it could be its
  966. 41:54own country New York city is bigger than
  967. 41:56a lot of other countries right Iceland
  968. 41:58for example way bigger than
  969. 42:00Iceland Singapore was part of Malaysia
  970. 42:03and then just they just said we don't
  971. 42:05want to be part of Malaysia anymore and
  972. 42:06then they just broke off that's how it
  973. 42:08happened so if New York City wants to
  974. 42:10break off they'll just do exactly what
  975. 42:13they happen now uh the official language
  976. 42:17is English
  977. 42:20although they don't call it English they
  978. 42:22call it
  979. 42:24Singlish it is English but
  980. 42:28it's a little different English than
  981. 42:30you're used to normally hearing it's
  982. 42:33like you go into London if you've ever
  983. 42:35been to London or watch British
  984. 42:36television you hear him talk like this
  985. 42:38and text you all understand what was
  986. 42:40saying right and and you do have if you
  987. 42:43listen if you watch a British movie and
  988. 42:44they're talking that way at the very
  989. 42:46beginning you go what's that coming out
  990. 42:48of their mouth at the end of the movie
  991. 42:50you know exactly what they're saying
  992. 42:52it's the same thing in in um Singapore
  993. 42:55when you first get there it takes a
  994. 42:56while um but then you figure it out now
  995. 42:59they have other languages that are
  996. 43:00spoken in Singapore but English is the
  997. 43:02official language they're their uh
  998. 43:06government system they tell you that
  999. 43:07they are a
1000. 43:09democracy that is a complete lie they
  1001. 43:13are not a democracy they're what's
  1002. 43:15called a benevolent
1003. 43:17dictatorship benevolent means good now
1004. 43:20most dictators are bad right we all you
1005. 43:22hear about them all over the world
  1006. 43:24usually that's a bad thing but think
1007. 43:26about it what is if you got a
1008. 43:29dictator who really cared and tried to
1009. 43:31do a good job and wasn't greedy and all
1010. 43:34they wanted to do was help their people
  1011. 43:36that wouldn't be a bad system would it
1012. 43:39because they can get things done faster
1013. 43:41they can make it happen there's a lot of
  1014. 43:43advantages to that there's disadvantages
  1015. 43:45we know but
1016. 43:46advantages the problem is how do you
1017. 43:48find this guy how do you find a
  1018. 43:50benevolent
1019. 43:51dictatorship well Singapore came pretty
1020. 43:54close and his name was LE you which you
1021. 43:56don't care he gets old his son's not
1022. 43:59quite young enough not quite old enough
  1023. 44:01to take a spot so they get a get get a
1024. 44:03caretaker person for a few years then
1025. 44:05his son becomes dictator everybody gets
1026. 44:08to vote everybody has to vote voting is
1027. 44:09required and you have one choice on the
1028. 44:13ballot dictatorship yeah people say well
1029. 44:17I don't want to go to Singapore actually
  1030. 44:18you do it is
1031. 44:20safe you don't have to worry about your
1032. 44:22stuff disappearing you put your stuff in
  1033. 44:23a
1034. 44:24warehouse it is safe they don't have any
1035. 44:31crime do give me an idea how little
  1036. 44:34crime they
  1037. 44:35have there was a young American
1038. 44:38boy who was like 14 or 15 years old he
1039. 44:42went to Singapore with his parents on
1040. 44:45his parents were doing business in
1041. 44:47Singapore and he got bored so he bought
1042. 44:50a can of spray paint you know spray
1043. 44:54paint now what trouble could a little
1044. 44:5815-year-old boy get into with a can of
1045. 45:01spray paint yep so he sprays the cars
1046. 45:04right they caught him of
1047. 45:07course how do you think he was
1048. 45:11punished no they didn't kill him no no
  1049. 45:14no they're they're not they're they're
  1050. 45:16civilized they're very they only killed
1051. 45:18people really only way he killed is
1052. 45:20drugs right he got three Strokes of the
1053. 45:23cane you oh that's not so bad
1054. 45:27yes it is so stroke of the cane first
  1055. 45:31off it's not a little thing it's a
1056. 45:34bamboo hole it's like six feet long and
  1057. 45:38it's been soaked in water so it's a
1058. 45:39little flexible not much but a little
  1059. 45:42bit then if you're a man a boy or guy
1060. 45:47whatever you take off your shirt and you
  1061. 45:48lean against the wall right if you're a
1062. 45:51woman you lift up your shirt so you
  1063. 45:53expose your
1064. 45:54back then musclean comes up there with
1065. 45:58this Big Bamboo Pole right and he is
1066. 46:01very good at his job right he takes it
  1067. 46:04he doesn't go he
  1068. 46:08goes
1069. 46:09boom hits the kid on the back exposed
1070. 46:14flesh now to give you an idea of the
1071. 46:16force of this thing it it it split the
1072. 46:19meat in his back opened up so he's got a
1073. 46:22big gash in his back right now it's
1074. 46:25flexible so it didn't break his back
1075. 46:27just hurt the meat right so don't worry
1076. 46:30Singapore has an excellent medical
1077. 46:32system they take him to the hospital
1078. 46:36they sew him up they give him two weeks
1079. 46:39to recover then he gets stroke number
1080. 46:43two now this guy is very good at his
1081. 46:48job so he does the same thing again and
1082. 46:53he hits he's very good he hits the kid
1083. 46:56at the exact same place he h him
1084. 46:59before yeah rips open the meat don't
1085. 47:03worry Singapore has excellent medical
1086. 47:07system they take him back to the
1087. 47:09hospital sew him up give him two weeks
1088. 47:12to recover then he gets stroke number
1089. 47:16three that the guy who does it is very
  1090. 47:19good at his
1091. 47:23job hits him again breaks it open and
1092. 47:26send him in the hospital don't worry
1093. 47:27they have excellent medical care right
1094. 47:29and then they sew him up let him stay
1095. 47:31for two weeks to recover and then they
  1096. 47:33deport he in
  1097. 47:35his yeah there's no crime in
  1098. 47:38Singapore there's no I mean there might
  1099. 47:40be a little you might maybe a pickpocket
  1100. 47:41here and now but it's there's it's weird
1101. 47:46you can walk through Singapore late at
  1102. 47:48night and you're safe you're not you
1103. 47:51know you sometimes you sometimes you
1104. 47:53like go to Country Places you're at nine
  1105. 47:55and like a little scary
1106. 47:57not in Singapore Singapore has three
  1107. 47:59cultures there's Chinese Malaysian and
1108. 48:02Indian right there three cultures now of
1109. 48:06these three cultures that Singapore has
1110. 48:08one problem everybody wants to live
  1111. 48:11there and people say I don't want to
1112. 48:13live there really show me a country
1113. 48:16where everybody has food housing
  1114. 48:19education they have almost 100% literacy
1115. 48:21basically the only people who cannot
1116. 48:23read or the people who don't have eyes
1117. 48:25or have brain damages something
1118. 48:27everybody can read everybody gets School
  1119. 48:29everybody gets medical
1120. 48:31care it's not a bad place to be tell me
1121. 48:34another place in the world where you
  1122. 48:35have all those
1123. 48:38benefits yeah yeah I heard people say
1124. 48:41and I still hear people say this they
1125. 48:44well you can't chew gum in Singapore
  1126. 48:46right they won't let you chew
1127. 48:48gum that is wrong you can chew gum in
  1128. 48:51Singapore right I bought gum at a
1129. 48:557-Eleven in sing apore you can you still
1130. 48:58hear people say you can't now there was
1131. 49:00a while where they said you couldn't
1132. 49:01have chewing gum because what do people
1133. 49:02do with their chewing gum when they're
1134. 49:03finished sometimes they put it under the
1135. 49:05table which is just three kinds of gross
1136. 49:08but people do that and so the leader of
1137. 49:10Singapore says no gum and then they said
1138. 49:13well what about chewing gum that helps
1139. 49:14us with tobacco stop smoking cigarettes
1140. 49:17I says okay you can get that and then
1141. 49:19then so now you can have gum but guess
1142. 49:21what you do with your gum when you're
1143. 49:22finished with it you throw it away in
1144. 49:25the trash can right they have clear
1145. 49:27rules and their rules are very very
1146. 49:29clear but but and you know them there's
  1147. 49:31no surprises you don't say I didn't know
  1148. 49:33I couldn't stick gum under the there's
1149. 49:35no surprises but they enforce them for
  1150. 49:38instance here's some of them they have a
1151. 49:40walk you know those signs say when you
1152. 49:42want across the street says walk and
1153. 49:43don't walk in the United States if it
  1154. 49:47says don't walk we
1155. 49:48run right there you don't walk because
  1156. 49:52it's about a $500 F they love that $500
  1157. 49:54number so it's $500 fine if you get
1158. 49:57caught right if you use public toilets
1159. 50:01they expect you to flush the toilet when
  1160. 50:03you're
1161. 50:04finished you say okay sure if you don't
1162. 50:09flush the toilet it is a $500 fine you
1163. 50:16say how are they going to tell if I
  1164. 50:18flush the toilet or
  1165. 50:21not
  1166. 50:23no yep potty cams
1167. 50:27yep now there's all sorts of bad jokes I
1168. 50:29can say with this one and I'm not going
1169. 50:31to you're safe on that but potty
1170. 50:35cans yeah yeah by the way they've taken
1171. 50:38away most of potty cams they don't very
1172. 50:40few potty cams are still left in
1173. 50:41Singapore because they just replaced it
1174. 50:43it's a lot cheaper just to replace it
  1175. 50:45with an automatic flush toilet isn't
  1176. 50:47it but in the
1177. 50:50meantime so you got three groups of
1178. 50:52people they have problems everybody
1179. 50:54wants to live on Singapore so they got
  1180. 50:56how you it's a tiny island nation right
1181. 50:59there's not enough room so they buy dirt
1182. 51:02from Malaysia to build their Island and
1183. 51:04so when I was in Singapore I stayed at
1184. 51:08this hotel and it was all reclaimed Land
1185. 51:10from the sea and it
1186. 51:12looked like belly College it looked like
1187. 51:15normal it's just flat it just it looked
1188. 51:17like just normal land it was all I
1189. 51:18looked in an older map and I could see
  1190. 51:20that I was where I was standing should
  1191. 51:22have been underwater but they they're
1192. 51:24literally built but they still they have
  1193. 51:25too many people
1194. 51:27so they decided we want to try to slow
  1195. 51:30down our population
1196. 51:33growth now they theyve got Chinese
  1197. 51:35Malaysians and
1198. 51:36Indians which of these three is familiar
1199. 51:39with the concept of population
1200. 51:41growth the Chinese the Malaysians and
1201. 51:45the Indians that's not part of their
1202. 51:47culture so the Singaporean government
1203. 51:49says hey stop having so many babies the
1204. 51:52Chinese said well we know how that works
1205. 51:54sir right the Malaysians and the Indians
1206. 51:56said no right government can't tell us
1207. 52:00how many kids to have now you got a
1208. 52:03problem here under the Singaporean
  1209. 52:06Constitution you have
1210. 52:08three three cultures three groups of
1211. 52:12people Singapore is Chinese Malaysian
1212. 52:15and India they're not one or the other
1213. 52:18they are all three to be one of one of
1214. 52:20those three is to be Singaporean that's
  1215. 52:23and they're very proud of being
  1216. 52:24Singaporean but they're Constitution
1217. 52:27says they cannot separate between the
  1218. 52:30three if you're one of three they can't
  1219. 52:32treat you
1220. 52:33differently so they got a problem here
1221. 52:36right they started getting more
1222. 52:37Malaysians and more Indians and Po
1223. 52:40Chinese population starts to go down now
  1224. 52:42they don't want they don't want their
1225. 52:44ratios changeed they want to keep it
1226. 52:46like it is they like their country you
1227. 52:48go to Singapore you will see why they
1228. 52:49like their country they don't want to
1229. 52:51change they don't want more Indians they
1230. 52:52don't want fewer Indians they don't want
1231. 52:53so they said they kept they said
1232. 52:55Malaysians Indians stop having babies
  1233. 52:57and they
1234. 52:58go so then the Chinese government the
  1235. 53:01Singaporean government said this isn't
1236. 53:04working our ratios are starting to
1237. 53:05change so let's have everybody have lots
1238. 53:09of kids the Indians and the Malaysians
1239. 53:11said we're having whatever kids we want
1240. 53:14to do government can't tell us the
1241. 53:15Chinese said okay we'll have so they
  1242. 53:18actually the government actually
  1243. 53:20encourages High birth
1244. 53:22rates it gets kind of weird how they do
1245. 53:25that you got to go to sing to see this
  1246. 53:27so if you're watching television there
1247. 53:29will be an ad on television you'll see
1248. 53:31it and it says have lots of children
  1249. 53:34when you're
1250. 53:35young big families are fun so TV
1251. 53:39commercial telling you to have children
  1252. 53:41wait it gets even
1253. 53:42better if you're living in Singapore and
  1254. 53:46you're single in
  1255. 53:49Singapore and you're not committed in a
1256. 53:51committed relationship in Singapore and
1257. 53:53you're at home like on a Friday night
1258. 53:55there will probably be a knock at your
1259. 53:59door and then you open the door and
1260. 54:01there'll be somebody standing there and
  1261. 54:03they say
  1262. 54:04hi I'm your government sponsored blind
1263. 54:09date our government thinks that you and
1264. 54:11I would be a cute couple let's go out on
  1265. 54:13a
1266. 54:14date yeah the government set you up with
1267. 54:16blind date and you gotta go right now
1268. 54:19you get a couple of of of of a nose you
1269. 54:23can say so if somebody comes up and
1270. 54:25they're really gross and not your right
  1271. 54:27you can say
1272. 54:28no but you only get a few of those you
1273. 54:33only get to say no a few times and so
1274. 54:35you want to save your nose for the
1275. 54:37really creepy people that you don't want
1276. 54:39to go out with so if they're even
1277. 54:41tolerable you go out with it now the
1278. 54:42government pays for your date it's nice
  1279. 54:45but it's
  1280. 54:48still it's still kind of
1281. 54:51weird Okay um uh if you you when you're
1282. 54:56doing business in Singapore you need to
1283. 54:58say that you're going to help them be
  1284. 54:59more Singaporean I don't really know
1285. 55:01what that means but when you're going
1286. 55:04through all the government regulations
1287. 55:05and stuff if you if you say this is
1288. 55:07Singaporean you just throw that word in
  1289. 55:09there it just opens doors it's it's just
1290. 55:12really really kind of kind of strange
  1291. 55:14now it's uh it's a little Island right
1292. 55:17and they don't get enough rain so they
  1293. 55:20buy raw water from
1294. 55:22Malaysia oh so they they buy dirt from
1295. 55:25Malaysia and they buy water from
1296. 55:28Malaysia now this water isn't very good
1297. 55:30so then they filter the
1298. 55:32water use that water to for their own
1299. 55:36purposes but they also make more
  1300. 55:40filtered water than they
1301. 55:42use so they take the filtered water sell
1302. 55:46it back to Malaysia and make a
1303. 55:49profit did you just catch that so
1304. 55:52they're making money by not having
  1305. 55:55enough water
  1306. 55:57I mean they're really it's it's a super
  1307. 55:59high-tech place it's it's really
1308. 56:00interesting uh if you go to the uh the
1309. 56:03docks you know you go to the where
1310. 56:06they're unloading the big container
1311. 56:07ships so if you go to them in Seattle
1312. 56:09you'll see people sitting in the truck
1313. 56:11waiting and wait it's waiting for their
1314. 56:13turn to get up so they can unload the
1315. 56:14container ship not in Singapore in
1316. 56:18Singapore the truck driver never stops
1317. 56:21he drives through he looks at a scanner
1318. 56:24the scanner scans his eye and identifies
1319. 56:29who he is as he's driving the truck down
1320. 56:32down the road so goes like this it
1321. 56:35probably looks at your license plate and
1322. 56:36then looks at your eyes to make sure
  1323. 56:38that're the same color or what I don't
1324. 56:40know how it works but it goes it
1325. 56:42identifies who you are then little
1326. 56:46lights in front of you light up and
1327. 56:48shows you which boat to go which ship to
1328. 56:50go to you pull into that
1329. 56:53ship and you slow down and they put the
1330. 56:56container on your truck as you slow down
1331. 57:00they bolt it on to your trailer and then
1332. 57:02you follow the lights off to where
1333. 57:04you're supposed to go so there's no
  1334. 57:06idling there's no sitting it's con think
1335. 57:09how efficient that is it's one of the
1336. 57:11largest ports in the world it's usually
1337. 57:13it's in the top three Hong Kong
  1338. 57:15sometimes beats it sometimes doesn't it
1339. 57:17depends on how you measure it it's still
1340. 57:19a big port and it's it's amazing how it
  1341. 57:23works um it's sinfully located
1342. 57:27so it's a safe place to store your goods
1343. 57:29and it's not that hard to get them to
1344. 57:31all over all over that the part of the
1345. 57:33world I mean you have over half the
1346. 57:35world's population within six- hour
  1347. 57:37flight I mean it's centrally located
  1348. 57:40it's safe very low
1349. 57:42taxes why low taxes because they don't
1350. 57:44have to worry about crime crime you pay
1351. 57:47a lot for they having those policemen
1352. 57:48out there don't you now they have
1353. 57:49policemen there but not like we do they
1354. 57:53don't have as many and yet it's
  1355. 57:54perfectly safe wow now you're not
1356. 57:58allowed to trash talk to leader when
1357. 57:59you're in Singapore here if you say I
1358. 58:01don't like our president people say yeah
1359. 58:03okay shut up right but they there's
1360. 58:05nothing wrong with it in
1361. 58:07Singapore you don't do that you say you
1362. 58:10say so if you go to Singapore you talk
1363. 58:11to somebody what do you think of your
  1364. 58:12government oh I love it it's the best
1365. 58:14government in the world that's all that
1366. 58:17they will tell you now with one
1367. 58:19exception taxis you get in a taxi they
  1368. 58:24will tell you everything they'll say
1369. 58:26what's good about it what's bad about it
1370. 58:28taxes have come it was the only area I
1371. 58:31could get into where people would
  1372. 58:33actually tell me besides it's wonderful
1373. 58:36right it's kind of like Disneyland if
1374. 58:37you go to Disneyland and ask an employee
1375. 58:39what they think about Disneyland they
1376. 58:40always go oh we love this places even if
1377. 58:42they hate it they're always gonna say
1378. 58:45that same thing here in in a
  1379. 58:50Singapore so let's look at doing
1380. 58:54business this this is doing business
1381. 58:57around the world so you look the old
  1382. 58:59ranking was 79 and 100 70 China was
  1383. 59:0479th India was
1384. 59:14100 now this is done by the World Bank
1385. 59:17as you can see it's done by the World
1386. 59:19Bank so World Bank is not political
  1387. 59:22right so uh World
1388. 59:24Bank so let's see what countries are the
1389. 59:27easiest this ranks them as ease number
1390. 59:30one is New Zealand yeah why New Zealand
  1391. 59:32is number one on that I don't really
  1392. 59:37know
1393. 59:38um um but it is it's and it's been there
1394. 59:42for about the last five years before
1395. 59:45it's just shot up recently but go back
1396. 59:4710 years it wasn't up there it was
1397. 59:50wasn't bad but it wasn't as high number
1398. 59:52two is Singapore number three is Hong
1399. 59:55Kong right and Hong Kong and Singapore
1400. 59:58flip back and forth depending on what's
1401. 1:00:00happening this year um you know Hong
1402. 1:00:03Kong they got some protests going on it
1403. 1:00:05makes a little bit more difficult to do
1404. 1:00:07but Hong Kong's still real easy to to do
1405. 1:00:10business the thing is though New Zealand
  1406. 1:00:14it's a small country there aren't very
1407. 1:00:16many people in New Zealand got a lot of
  1408. 1:00:19land but you've been to Auckland it's
1409. 1:00:21not a big city it's like Tacoma you know
  1410. 1:00:25Singapore a city but it's still you
1411. 1:00:28can't compare right Hong Kong is a city
  1412. 1:00:31right Denmark okay Denmark's got some
1413. 1:00:34more people uh it's not a city but you
1414. 1:00:37can't compare Denmark to China you just
1415. 1:00:40can't right Korea this is South Korea in
  1416. 1:00:43case you didn't
1417. 1:00:44know yeah Korea is number five okay
1418. 1:00:47there's a lot of people there but you
1419. 1:00:49can't compare them to China or the
1420. 1:00:51United States United States number
  1421. 1:00:54six that's pretty good good that's
  1422. 1:00:57pretty good considering that we're like
1423. 1:00:58the third biggest country in the world
  1424. 1:01:01population
  1425. 1:01:03wise that's pretty that means that it's
1426. 1:01:06pretty easy to do business here okay and
1427. 1:01:08then we go down we see all The Usual
  1428. 1:01:11Suspects Sweden
  1429. 1:01:15Australia China no
  1430. 1:01:20Taiwan
  1431. 1:01:22Finland where's China
1432. 1:01:26where's come come on China there it is
1433. 1:01:2931st wait did you see
1434. 1:01:31that not long ago it was
  1435. 1:01:3479th now it's
  1436. 1:01:3731st W China's China's improving they're
  1437. 1:01:41they're Skyrock they're going up that's
  1438. 1:01:42why Walmart's in China they're not doing
  1439. 1:01:45it you don't you don't see Walmarts in
1440. 1:01:48India nope well maybe there is one I
  1441. 1:01:52sure didn't see him I didn't see a lot
1442. 1:01:57what other countries do we have here
  1443. 1:01:58let's see where's
  1444. 1:02:00India come on
  1445. 1:02:02India come on
1446. 1:02:05India come on India there we are
1447. 1:02:0963 India's getting better only if you
  1448. 1:02:13include Green Technology if you don't
  1449. 1:02:15talk about Green Technology they're Dro
1450. 1:02:17way down the list but that is an
  1451. 1:02:20entrance into
1452. 1:02:24India okay now where is it hard to do
1453. 1:02:30business so lonstein lonstein is not
1454. 1:02:33tough to do business it's just not on
1455. 1:02:35the on the on the they don't have data
1456. 1:02:37for it so some of these should not be
  1457. 1:02:40too too surprising Venezuela yeah that's
  1458. 1:02:44a that place is it's a failed country
  1459. 1:02:46right now it's a failed government Yemen
  1460. 1:02:49they're at War it's a failed government
  1461. 1:02:50Libya
1462. 1:02:52failed uh all these countries these
  1463. 1:02:55shouldn't be that
1464. 1:02:58surprising you know these are the places
1465. 1:03:00where it's really tough to do business
1466. 1:03:03the the lowest of these countries that
  1467. 1:03:05I've been to is

  1485. 1:03:51make it work you
  1486. 1:03:53know so
