- 0:02ABBY LEE MILLER: You're auditioning
- 0:03for a spot on the Abby Lee Dance Company's competition team.
- 0:05I've seen everybody dance.
- 0:06230, congratulations!
- 0:07[laughter]
- 0:09Your first day.
- 0:10My first day.
- 0:11Your reputation precedes you.
- 0:13You save those tears for your pillow in your room, alone.
- 0:15You know what?
- 0:16The kid needs somebody.
- 0:18She's not that swift.
- 0:19How dare you?
- 0:20Girls, you have to get it together.
- 0:21How come I'm the only one who gets aggrevated?
- 0:23Because you're the only that hasn't had a child.
- 0:26No, but I had a mother and a father,
- 0:28and if they looked at me one time, I knew.
- 0:31Oh, don't even go there, you whore.
- 0:33ABBY LEE MILLER: Coming up on "Dance Moms."
- 0:34This weekend we are headed to Columbus, Ohio.
- 0:38You know who lives in Ohio?
- 0:39Candy Apples.
- 0:40[applause and cheering]
- 0:42ABBY LEE MILLER: I want you to make applesauce.
- 0:44It's going to be the battle of the turns, versus the inchworm.
- 0:47This is about you getting an Abby Lee Dance Company jacket
- 0:50or going back to the regular classes.
- 0:53You think those girls were nine and 10 years old?
- 0:55No, I don't think they were nine and 10,
- 0:56and I'm a little worried.
- 0:57I think you should be worried too.
- 0:59[theme music]
- 1:01THEME SONG: Get up, get on the floor.
- 1:05My world is lit by girls living on on the dance floor.
- 1:10[music playing]
- 1:13Girls, let's go.
- 1:15Come on, girls.
- 1:16Let's go.
- 1:17All in all, I would call North Carolina mediocre.
- 1:20They were cute, the costumes were adorable,
- 1:23they were sloppy.
- 1:24I want to start off talking a little bit about the dance
- 1:27troupe in Greensboro, North Carolina.
- 1:29[music playing]
- 1:32That was not the group in Lake Tahoe that just
- 1:35won a national championship.
- 1:37Obviously, cute still works in the Carolinas.
- 1:40Kendall, you did your solo.
- 1:42Scared to death.
- 1:43That face was not an Abby Lee Miller face,
- 1:45that's for certain.
- 1:46Abby, that was her first time.
- 1:48Uh-oh, we don't get to talk.
- 1:49It's my turn.
- 1:51This weekend we are headed to Columbus, Ohio.
- 1:56You know who lives in Ohio?
- 1:57Candy Apples.
- 1:58[applause and cheering]
- 2:01ABBY LEE MILLER: We are going there,
- 2:03and she will be at the competition.
- 2:05Cathy--
- 2:05You guys.
- 2:08She's like a cold sore that just keeps coming back.
- 2:10She's like, I'm here, I'm here, I'm here.
- 2:11And you're like, God, go away already.
- 2:14I don't want any squabbling squawking between the mothers.
- 2:17You all on the same team, and we're
- 2:19all going to take a bite out of that big apple.
- 2:21[laughter]
- 2:22All right, we're going to start with the pyramid.
- 2:23[music playing]
- 2:24On the bottom, Kendall.
- 2:27You are on probation.
- 2:28That means that I am watching you like a hawk.
- 2:31Do you understand me?
- 2:32I'm really sad that I'm at the bottom of the pyramid,
- 2:35because I thought I did my best.
- 2:37Mackenzie, I keep giving you little parts.
- 2:40Your dancing is not up to where the rest of the girls are.
- 2:43When Maddie was seven, she could have done the choreography.
- 2:47Brooke, you knew the number, but the crying and the hysteria--
- 2:52that's not a young adult. Paige, you did a nice job
- 2:55this weekend.
- 2:57Then on the bus coming home we told you to sit down 32 times.
- 3:01I counted.
- 3:02That's 31 too many.
- 3:03Every single one of them were playing on the bus.
- 3:05But it doesn't make it right.
- 3:06She's your daughter.
- 3:08You should yell at them too.
- 3:09No matter what I do, my kids are always
- 3:11going to be at the bottom of the pyramid.
- 3:12I just think it's Abby's way of torturing me.
- 3:16Nia, I left you here in the same spot
- 3:18that you were in last week.
- 3:20Maybe somebody Nia's family could
- 3:22show up at the competition and watch her and clap for her.
- 3:25Next we have Chloe.
- 3:28Chloe, you did a great job.
- 3:29And at the top of the pyramid is Maddie.
- 3:31You did a great job, I've seen you dance better.
- 3:33I want you to be exactly where you are in Lake Tahoe.
- 3:37Every single person is going to be in the group dance.
- 3:39It is called Bad Apples.
- 3:42[laughter]
- 3:44It's a little '40's, has a little novelty,
- 3:47but it's a little Katie Perry.
- 3:49It's a little ticked up.
- 3:51So I want to pin-up girl look.
- 3:53We have the wrap, we have the snood.
- 3:56I'm not putting a wrap in my hair.
- 3:57And a snood?
- 3:59What's a snood?
- 4:00If you don't know what a wrap or a snood is, go Google it,
- 4:03figure it out.
- 4:04When you go on stage for that competition,
- 4:07you better be on fire.
- 4:08Brooke, you're doing a solo.
- 4:11Cathy has a girl entered your age.
- 4:14I want you to make applesauce out of that kid.
- 4:17Backstage, freak that kid out.
- 4:20I want that kid in tears before she ever steps on that stage.
- 4:23All right, Candy Apples, applesauce.
- 4:28Squish 'em.
- 4:29All right moms, you're dismissed.
- 4:31Girls, spread apart.
- 4:32Let's up and start doing the number.
- 4:34Let's go.
- 4:35Music.
- 4:39Good lord.
- 4:40I just want to say, stand up tall.
- 4:42So what did you think of your first pyramid?
- 4:45Yeah, you never know.
- 4:46I didn't know what to expect.
- 4:48I really didn't think she'd be on the bottom.
- 4:51Mackenzie--
- 4:51It's because you're new.
- 4:52I know, I know.
- 4:54But still, I thought that was a lot of pressure
- 4:57on a little kid.
- 4:58Kendall absolutely should be on the bottom of that pyramid.
- 5:00I think Kendall should take up permanent residency
- 5:02at the bottom of the pyramid.
- 5:03We've been dealing with this one for a long time.
- 5:06You've got like three days under your belt, sister.
- 5:08Get used to the bottom row.
- 5:09I do this.
- 5:11Big.
- 5:14Little.
- 5:15The number we're doing for a Rising Star
- 5:18is called the Bad Apples.
- 5:20It's a 1940s number.
- 5:22A little Andrews Sisters, a little Katie Perry.
- 5:24And also a little jab to Cathy from Candy Apple.
- 5:29In three days she learned a solo, they switched the music
- 5:32the night before.
- 5:33That's what we do every week.
- 5:34My kid still has no music.
- 5:36I just don't understand why she couldn't have thrown her
- 5:39a little bone.
- 5:40Jill was up there bitching, because Kendall
- 5:42was at the bottom.
- 5:43I just don't get it.
- 5:44I've been in Abby's studio for 30 years,
- 5:46and my kids are always at the bottom.
- 5:47She's already starting off on a bad foot.
- 5:49I don't think it's fair for her
- 5:50to put a new kid who did a solo and did well
- 5:55at the bottom of the pyramid.
- 5:57But do you think it's OK for a kid who's been here for nine
- 5:59years to be at the bottom of the pyramid?
- 6:01Basically Nia, Chloe, or Maddie
- 6:05have to be bumped down in order for it
- 6:06to be OK is what I'm hearing.
- 6:09Well, sort of.
- 6:10That's what I'm hearing.
- 6:12In order for Kendall to go up, someone on top has to go down.
- 6:17Who has to go down?
- 6:18Is it Nia?
- 6:19Is it Chloe?
- 6:20Is it Maddie?
- 6:21I had an idea of who she suspects should be
- 6:25at the bottom of the pyramid.
- 6:26it's so subjective.
- 6:27Do you think Kendall's better than Nia?
- 6:29Well, I think had Kendall and competed directly
- 6:31against each other, I do.
- 6:34I mean, that's just--
- 6:36I'm just being honest, Holly.
- 6:37Kendall was the star at her studio,
- 6:39and now she's not the star.
- 6:41And I think that's really hard for Jill to handle.
- 6:43You say you want to be accepted
- 6:45and you want to be part of the group,
- 6:46but then you come in here and--
- 6:48you can't lay down the gauntlet saying my kid's better than all
- 6:50of your kids.
- 6:51I kind of think of this group as a little bit like a sorority.
- 6:53Like you pledge a little bit, you kind of like, you sit back,
- 6:56you pay your dues, and then you get to the top.
- 6:58Like I don't think you can come in here expecting to be like,
- 7:01boom I'm at the top because I say so.
- 7:03I think she deserves it.
- 7:04[interposing voices]
- 7:05We all work.
- 7:07I can't worry about your kids, I've got to worry about mine.
- 7:09Don't worry about my daughter.
- 7:10I'm just telling you, she's not going to give you everything,
- 7:13because she doesn't give me everything,
- 7:14and I've been here a whole hell of a lot longer than you.
- 7:16So wait a minute, you're in your honeymoon period.
- 7:18You probably could get away with talking to her,
- 7:20where the rest of us can never say a word.
- 7:22You might be able to get her ear and like and speak your piece.
- 7:25Do I interrupt this class?
- 7:27I suggested that Jill go down and talk to Abby, because I
- 7:31think everyone needs a little initiation when you join
- 7:33our group, and the best way to get that is to go right
- 7:36in there and tell Abby Miller how you feel.
- 7:37Hold eight, flick at one.
- 7:39Point your feet, Mackenzie.
- 7:46Ready, go.
- 7:48Abby, I need to talk to you.
- 7:50Can we have two minutes?
- 7:51Two minutes?
- 7:52You shouldn't even be in here with those shoes on.
- 7:53Jill doesn't understand how the dynamics in my studio work.
- 7:57She's been at this a long time.
- 7:59She spends thousands of dollars on competition entrance fees
- 8:02when she should have been spending all that money
- 8:05on technique classes.
- 8:06Does anybody have any popcorn?
- 8:09You really need to go stay with other mothers.
- 8:11I just wanted to talk to you about Kendall.
- 8:14Give me a minute.
- 8:15Maddie, [inaudible].
- 8:18We've played by your rules.
- 8:19Right?
- 8:20I'm a little disappointed that Kendall's
- 8:22at the bottom of the pyramid.
- 8:23Abby, I need to know what you need for me to get her up.
- 8:27I don't need anything from you.
- 8:30Ladies, I didn't hear anybody counting.
- 8:32One, and two, and three, and four and.
- 8:35Look at her feet, they're not even together.
- 8:38Look at her feet, they're still not together.
- 8:40Kendall, squeeze your feet, honey.
- 8:41Put your ankles together.
- 8:43We can't have honey, honey, honey.
- 8:45Leave it up to me.
- 8:45I will.
- 8:47She will sink, or she will swim.
- 8:48And I'm counting on you.
- 8:49Right.
- 8:51And I have faith on you.
- 8:52You're going to pay a lot of money to go to Harvard.
- 8:54Someone's going to be the valedictorian,
- 8:56and thousands of other people aren't.
- 8:58I liked watching Abby shut Jill down, just because Jill
- 9:02definitely has ulterior motives.
- 9:03I think she'll do anything to get Kendall ahead.
- 9:05Does everyone wants to be at the top of pyramid?
- 9:07Yes.
- 9:09Well--
- 9:10- OK? - All right.
- 9:11Let's go.
- 9:12All right, work it.
- 9:15[music playing]
- 9:20Now is the time for us to show our technique.
- 9:23Keep our toes pointed, straight knees,
- 9:25keep everything nice and tight.
- 9:26We're going to get busy.
- 9:28I haven't seen any of the dance moms
- 9:30since we came back from LA, and LA was really humiliating
- 9:33for me.
- 9:35But you know, I had to brush myself off and get a game plan.
- 9:38And when the dance moms from Abby Lee Dance Center see us,
- 9:42they are going to be blown away.
- 9:44Higher!
- 9:46Yeah, see, that's beautiful?
- 9:53[music playing]
- 9:55How about Jill?
- 9:57Being mad that Kendall's at the bottom of the pyramid.
- 9:59I know.
- 10:00Hello, you're brand new.
- 10:01Oh, I'm a team player, but I can't worry about your girls.
- 10:05Kelly and I are at lunch, and of course, the main topic
- 10:07of conversation is the new girl.
- 10:08Oh.
- 10:11I forgot, I brought something to show you.
- 10:13[music playing]
- 10:14I have a book from a competition from a few years ago.
- 10:17Oh, you're kidding me.
- 10:19No, because I keep my books.
- 10:20Chloe, Maddie, and Kendall all danced in the same age group
- 10:23against one another solos.
- 10:24And Jill never remembered our girls beating her daughter.
- 10:29I remember.
- 10:30Chloe was actually three, Maddie was one, Kendall was 10.
- 10:36Are you going to take that and show her tonight?
- 10:37I might.
- 10:38Oh, I think you should.
- 10:39She doesn't know what she's messing with, because I've got
- 10:41these books from years back.
- 10:43So if she wants to play that game, I'll pull them all out.
- 10:46I think there's more to Jill's story than meets the eye.
- 10:49I think that we all need to do a little digging
- 10:51and find out why she's a studio hopper and why all of a sudden
- 10:54she's knocking on our door when she's lived down
- 10:56the street from us for years.
- 10:58I there's a lot to be learned about Jill.
- 11:01And I think it's better to know what you're dealing
- 11:04with than to be blindsided.
- 11:06Anyone who talks like this all the time just can't be trusted.
- 11:12[music playing]
- 11:19ABBY LEE MILLER: Brooke's routine, Garden of Eden,
- 11:21is a lyrical acrobatic routine, and she's really
- 11:24going to impress the judges.
- 11:25She's going to leave everybody wanting more.
- 11:27That head is like the drop.
- 11:29What is that?
- 11:30The word on the street is that Cathy has entered somebody
- 11:34directly against Brooke as far as age goes.
- 11:38So Brooke needs to go out there and show everybody
- 11:41that she is flawless.
- 11:44[music playing]
- 11:45As you know, we've just added the Abby Lee Dance Company
- 11:48as part of our repertoire of enemies.
- 11:52And particularly Brooke.
- 11:54Brooke is a title winner just like you.
- 11:57Is she a two time title winner like you?
- 11:59No.
- 12:00I think that my main message to Abby
- 12:03is yes, she's a very good dance studio, and so are we.
- 12:07You're wondering what's going on, head.
- 12:10Is Abby the only person that has a dance studio that
- 12:13is successful?
- 12:14No.
- 12:15Cathy has a dance studio that's very successful too.
- 12:18Brooke over here, I think her forte
- 12:21is like laying on the floor and then crawling around
- 12:26on her neck.
- 12:27But you, on the other hand, have these amazing combination
- 12:30pirouettes.
- 12:31And Miss Vivi, Erika is going to look at you,
- 12:35she's going to look at you.
- 12:36That's your cue, OK?
- 12:38Don't be sitting over here sleeping.
- 12:40You've got to dance like you want a puppy,
- 12:42you've got to earn your puppy.
- 12:43Now's the time.
- 12:45OK?
- 12:46That was our deal.
- 12:47Yes.
- 12:48Now's the time to earn our puppy.
- 12:50Oh, I'm sorry, honey.
- 12:51OK.
- 12:52We ready?
- 12:57Oh my God, I did that?
- 12:58Yeah.
- 13:01I hope I can still dance.
- 13:03OK, let's go.
- 13:05Just a minor tragedy.
- 13:06[music playing]
- 13:15ABBY LEE MILLER: Five, six, seven, eight.
- 13:19Pliet when you land.
- 13:21Turn out, turn out.
- 13:24Oh my God, I know what I wanted to show you.
- 13:27I was going through Chloe's shelf,
- 13:30and I found the book from the competition
- 13:34that we were talking about.
- 13:35Oh, which one?
- 13:36The one that we were saying--
- 13:37yeah.
- 13:38And I have all the scores written down
- 13:39from that competition.
- 13:41Chloe was third, Maddie was first, but Kendall was tenth.
- 13:44So--
- 13:45Christi brought the program book to show it to Jill,
- 13:48because she wants her to know--
- 13:51my daughter is going to be a threat to you.
- 13:53But you don't care about winning.
- 13:54I'm not going to let them get to me.
- 13:56Even if they're intimidated by me or my little eight-year-old,
- 14:00I'm going to make it work.
- 14:02I like these ones.
- 14:03Yeah.
- 14:04You guys want to see the snoods?
- 14:05That's just like starting.
- 14:06Where did you find snoods?
- 14:07Oh, that's the rat.
- 14:09Ew.
- 14:11I did not want us to be able to find these things.
- 14:14Abby has us wearing a rat.
- 14:16A rat is a foam thing that you roll your hair in,
- 14:20and it makes you look kind of like George Washington.
- 14:23The ugliest thing ever.
- 14:25When you saw how ugly those were,
- 14:26why would you purchase them?
- 14:28You go, you tell her you looked, and they didn't have them.
- 14:31Let's go show her.
- 14:32Jill needs to learn.
- 14:33You just tell Abby, we don't know where they're at,
- 14:35we can't find them, and then you don't have to wear them.
- 14:37Like oh, if this is what Abby wants, if I get it,
- 14:39maybe I'll move up the pyramid.
- 14:40Exactly.
- 14:41All the other moms will complain about it.
- 14:43And these two are like, do my hair.
- 14:44Are we at a junior high sleepover?
- 14:46Can you do my hair?
- 14:47[giggling]
- 14:48I think Jill is really trying to make an effort
- 14:51to appear as a team player at this point,
- 14:52because it's all she has.
- 14:53She wants to be a member of the team,
- 14:56and her position is very precarious.
- 14:58So I think once she becomes a member of the team,
- 15:00the tides are going to turn a little bit with Jill.
- 15:02[music playing]
- 15:06ABBY LEE MILLER: Stop!
- 15:09Paige, what are you doing?
- 15:12OK, let's just go again.
- 15:14I'm going to go in and give my kids the props.
- 15:16And then--
- 15:17Oh, can I have the hat?
- 15:18Yes.
- 15:19And I'm just going to say--
- 15:21They're lining up, Kell.
- 15:22ABBY LEE MILLER: Maddie, no more stupid mistakes up there.
- 15:24What are you doing?
- 15:26Are they running solos?
- 15:28I'm going to put these props in here.
- 15:29Kelly, if she's 13, let her carry it herself.
- 15:32Next time, you can come up-- she didn't know I brought
- 15:35a hat. - Whatever.
- 15:36[interposing voices]
- 15:36--wasting more time.
- 15:38You want me to run the solos--
- 15:39You're yelling at me for bringing them
- 15:41the stuff that they need.
- 15:42Do you want us to be hands-on moms?
- 15:45Because you just told Nia her mom didn't love her.
- 15:47I want you to be gone, and I want to get the two
- 15:5014-year-olds that came to the audition and put them
- 15:52in the dance.
- 15:53Throw me out, throw me out.
- 15:54Go ride ahead.
- 15:55Go
- 15:57Kelly has absolutely no right to interrupt the classroom.
- 16:01Nobody pays that much money.
- 16:03No one.
- 16:19Who the hell is she to ask me if I'm drinking?
- 16:21In front of a dance class.
- 16:22That's where it crossed a line.
- 16:26Whether I was drinking or not is none of her damn business.
- 16:29And to say it in front of my children.
- 16:31What did you
- 16:32watch the glass turn it out
- 16:35she wonders why my kids want to do other things I mean would
- 16:39you want to go to your extracurricular activity
- 16:41and do nothing but get yelled at?
- 16:44it's supposed to be fun.
- 16:45I was so frustrated.
- 16:47I feel like I should stick up for myself,
- 16:50but no matter what I do, she still keeps torturing me
- 16:54and torturing my kids.
- 16:56I kind of feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place.
- 16:59I want my kids to stay there at the studio
- 17:01because they love it there, but I'm not doing my job as a mom
- 17:04by letting her treat them that way.
- 17:06I just can't take it anymore.
- 17:10I just don't know why I let my kids do this.
- 17:17I'm torturing my kids.
- 17:25One, two, three, four, five, six.
- 17:26One, two, three, four, five, six.
- 17:28OK, stop.
- 17:29Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop.
- 17:31I want to talk about that.
- 17:32From you two, I'm getting this.
- 17:35That's not what I want.
- 17:37I want the shoulders down so you would stick your hip out
- 17:40instead of giving me this which looks really stupid.
- 17:43I came up with a new plan to come back with a vengeance.
- 17:46This competition is on my home turf,
- 17:49and those dance moms aren't going to know what hit them.
- 17:51Stop looking at me.
- 17:52Look at me with your ears.
- 17:55[music playing]
- 17:57ABBY LEE MILLER: Girls, come on, listen to me.
- 17:59Tomorrow you are leaving for competition,
- 18:02and you're all acting like a bunch of three-year-olds
- 18:04at your first recital costume.
- 18:05Stop, get over there, and start working on the number.
- 18:09I'm feeling kind of happy that we get to go to Ohio
- 18:12and compete against the Candy Apples.
- 18:15I mean, I don't really care if we don't win.
- 18:17But I think we will win.
- 18:21Ew, are those our costumes?
- 18:23Not my favorite.
- 18:25Wait till we put the snood on.
- 18:27Oh.
- 18:29Ugly.
- 18:31That's not very Katie Perry.
- 18:32Now we're going to hear a snood and a rat?
- 18:36Abby wants us to go and make applesauce out of the Candy
- 18:39Apples, but here we are with an ugly costume, rats and snoods,
- 18:43and we're doing '40's moves.
- 18:45You think she'll be rude to me?
- 18:46Yes.
- 18:47Oh, absolutely.
- 18:48I think it's guilty by association.
- 18:50She'll be like, you're replacing me in the group.
- 18:54I would expect nothing less from Cathy than her shenanigans
- 18:58that she pulls.
- 18:59I wouldn't be surprised if she comes backstage and tries
- 19:01to like steal costumes off of our kids
- 19:03backs that we paid for.
- 19:05Or if she tries to get out of us what music we're using.
- 19:07Like although those are last year's tricks.
- 19:09I'm sure she'll have something new up her sleeve.
- 19:11Well, she's after Brooke this week, so--
- 19:14Oh.
- 19:16Bring it.
- 19:17[music playing]
- 19:20ABBY LEE MILLER: Nia, your [inaudible] directions--
- 19:25What's the word?
- 19:26What about the world's ugliest mushrooms.
- 19:28Nothing about that, but Abby wants Jill and Holly
- 19:30downstairs.
- 19:31Why?
- 19:33Crap.
- 19:34We're going to find out.
- 19:35Rehearsals aren't going as well as I would like.
- 19:37I had to call Holly and Jill down.
- 19:39I wanted them to see with their own eyes
- 19:42what Nia and Kendall keep doing wrong.
- 19:47Watch Nia, watch this show.
- 19:50It's a split jeté change stretch.
- 19:52You see that front foot?
- 19:54Completely flexed.
- 19:56And watch, look at Kendall's-- they never are together.
- 20:01So did you find anything out about Jill?
- 20:04She's down there.
- 20:05You can speak freely.
- 20:06Did she mention to you like, why all of a sudden
- 20:08she decided to come here?
- 20:10[music playing]
- 20:11She said she's wanted to come here for years.
- 20:13But I said, why--
- 20:14I don't believe that for one minute.
- 20:16She lives down the street, and yet she
- 20:17drove an our in each direction.
- 20:19She's been to three studios in six years.
- 20:21I just think she gets tired of studios.
- 20:23Me too, but somehow I stick it out.
- 20:24I don't know, I've heard some stuff,
- 20:27and I don't think it's getting tired of studios.
- 20:29Really? What have you heard?
- 20:30If anything, it's--
- 20:34[music playing]
- 20:36Thank you.
- 20:41ABBY LEE MILLER: Bus driver Jim, why didn't we
- 20:44jump on the turnpike and hit 79 the other way so we wouldn't
- 20:47miss all this traffic?
- 20:48She yells at the bus driver every time we get on the bus.
- 20:50Apparently that little navigation system in front
- 20:53isn't good enough.
- 20:54You need to put Abby Lee Miller on your dashboard
- 20:55so she can give you the directions.
- 21:02In a shocking turn of events, Melissa and Jill
- 21:05announced that they went shopping
- 21:07and they bought a gift for Abby, because that's
- 21:10what I think about when I'm shopping-- what can I bring
- 21:13Abby?
- 21:14It's just a little something that Melissa and I--
- 21:16[laughter]
- 21:18--we saw it and thought of you.
- 21:20Ooh.
- 21:23Pretty.
- 21:24Now I need a gold outfit to go with it.
- 21:26And gold earrings and a gold necklace.
- 21:29You can get that next week.
- 21:30Well, keep it up.
- 21:30[laughter]
- 21:31Beautiful, look.
- 21:34Hey, ladies, I'm going to put this away, but thank you very
- 21:36much for thinking of me.
- 21:37How about the next time you're out, I need a husband.
- 21:41[music playing]
- 21:44Girls, come on.
- 21:45Let's go.
- 21:46This is a very important competition,
- 21:47there's a lot at stake.
- 21:49We have a group number against Candy Apple and Brooke's solo.
- 21:52Never a dull moment in the Abby Lee Dance Company.
- 21:56Oh, I got mail.
- 21:58So we arrive at the hotel in Columbus,
- 22:00and as we're checking in, Kelly gets a note.
- 22:02We are cordially invited to a soiree
- 22:04in the presidential suite downtown Columbus.
- 22:07Cocktail attire encouraged.
- 22:09What kind of event is this?
- 22:11[squeals] - What is it?
- 22:13Let me see.
- 22:14Oh no.
- 22:15A freaking apple.
- 22:16[laughter]
- 22:18I just don't know what Cathy is trying to provide inviting us
- 22:21to a party, but we're going to go.
- 22:23[music playing]
- 22:29Hi, you're not wearing a gown.
- 22:31Thank goodness you're not wearing a gown.
- 22:32We thought you'd be wearing a gown.
- 22:34You know how you're supposed to keep your friends close
- 22:35and your enemies closer?
- 22:37Well, these ladies need to see the way my studio travels--
- 22:40its first class all the way.
- 22:43Something Abby Lee doesn't know anything about.
- 22:45Have you guys missed me?
- 22:49I am actually excited to see Abby, I hate to say it.
- 22:52Do you think she's a good leader?
- 22:54She just wants our kids to be the best they can be.
- 22:57I just feel you guys would be so happy if you were someplace
- 23:01where you had a good leader.
- 23:07I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
- 23:08How many fights have you had with her already?
- 23:11Oh God, I don't even know.
- 23:13It seems like it's a negative experience for you guys.
- 23:16Why don't you go somewhere where you're going to be happy?
- 23:18Never in a million years did I ever
- 23:20think Cathy would try to poach us from Abby.
- 23:22I thought she hated us.
- 23:23Abby is still playing her games.
- 23:27That's too bad.
- 23:32[music playing]
- 23:36Get them up, get them up.
- 23:38When we got off of the bus, I told my girls
- 23:41and their mothers--
- 23:42game faces on.
- 23:44Abby Lee, she draws on abs.
- 23:47We have real abs.
- 23:49Keep going.
- 23:50There they are.
- 23:51Keep your heads up high.
- 23:54And remember, no running, hugging, kissing.
- 23:56Just hi, how are you?
- 23:57Guys, guys, guys, guys, come here.
- 23:58Don't even look at them.
- 24:00Do not look at them, keep your eyes on me.
- 24:02Hey.
- 24:04How are you?
- 24:05You forgot a curler?
- 24:06[laughter]
- 24:09Very fashionable.
- 24:10Nobody could tell me?
- 24:13[interposing voices]
- 24:15Let's go girls.
- 24:18I'm going to overturn that apple cart.
- 24:21Cathy is going to go after the jumps, the turns, the tricks.
- 24:24I'm not going to do that.
- 24:25I'm going to go with entertainment value.
- 24:26I'm going to pull my bow and arrow,
- 24:28and I am going to be right on target.
- 24:30Ladies, think of everything I yell at you about five
- 24:33days ago, four days ago, three days ago, two days ago,
- 24:36yesterday.
- 24:37Go over that dance in your head.
- 24:38This is really important to me personally,
- 24:41it's really important to your moms.
- 24:43JILL VERTES: Kendall's a competitor,
- 24:44but I'm not sure she fully understands what's
- 24:47at stake here.
- 24:48ABBY LEE MILLER: Kendall, this is about you getting an Abby
- 24:50Lee League Dance Company jacket or going back
- 24:53to the regular process.
- 24:54You understand?
- 24:55Yes, mom?
- 24:56You understand that?
- 24:57I do.
- 24:59In order to do that, I expect--
- 25:00I want your corrections that I've corrected fixed.
- 25:04Kendall forgets that she is still on probation.
- 25:07And unless these technical issues get cleaned up quickly,
- 25:12her days are numbered.
- 25:13Ready for a snood?
- 25:17Let me go over this whole hair thing.
- 25:19HOLLY FRAZIER: I think the most stressful part
- 25:21of getting the girls ready for the competition is the hair.
- 25:24If your snood or your rat comes undone on stage,
- 25:28that is not going to be good.
- 25:33ABBY LEE MILLER: Wait a minute, wait a minute here.
- 25:35This is a snood.
- 25:36I know.
- 25:37We have to-- we can't wear different things on stage,
- 25:39you guys.
- 25:39Why am I finding out this now?
- 25:41You know, these moms may not know the difference
- 25:43between snoods, but I can tell.
- 25:45Some are thick crocheted knitted scnoods,
- 25:48and the other are really thin nylon almost like a hairnet.
- 25:51Every one of these snoods has to be exactly the same.
- 25:55Details could make or break a number.
- 25:57But why didn't you buy seven new ones of that?
- 25:59Because when I left yesterday morning,
- 26:03I searched around four different stores Saturday morning.
- 26:06That's what I got.
- 26:07But nobody told me, I would've said, hey Holly,
- 26:08don't buy something different.
- 26:09Where you?
- 26:10Where were you?
- 26:12Four different stores, four different stores,
- 26:13four different stores.
- 26:15Holly, go to 14 different stores and then start complaining.
- 26:18I said, buy seven of the same thing.
- 26:21You know, I'm getting sick and tired about hearing
- 26:23these snoods, OK?
- 26:24I want the thin ones that Holly
- 26:27bought in everybody's hair, and I want this in Nia's hair.
- 26:31We have the same thing.
- 26:33I'm the choreographer.
- 26:34Yoo-hoo, I'm over here.
- 26:36I designed the costume.
- 26:37The rats and the snoods make the number.
- 26:43What do you mean last night?
- 26:46We had a soiree, and she was the only person there.
- 26:50Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute.
- 26:52When I left last night, you all didn't go up to your rooms?
- 26:55No, we went and changed.
- 26:58Well, I think that's really going behind my back,
- 27:00and I don't appreciate it.
- 27:01But what does she have to say?
- 27:02Because that's solicitation.
- 27:04She was asking us why we stay at your studio.
- 27:07She just had some not so nice things to say about you.
- 27:09I would never go and invite a bunch of moms
- 27:13from another dance studio to my room
- 27:14and then talk about their teacher.
- 27:15I can't believe that Cathy went behind my back
- 27:19again and invited my dance moms to a cocktail party.
- 27:23Who does that?
- 27:24That just goes to show you coffee is underhanded tricks
- 27:28again thinking it's going to get her out in the competition.
- 27:31Not.
- 27:32All right, girls.
- 27:33Let's go right.
- 27:34Break a leg!
- 27:35[interposing voices]
- 27:40Are you the new new little girl?
- 27:42Yeah.
- 27:43Are you the one that said hi to me?
- 27:44That walked by?
- 27:45I don't think.
- 27:46Oh, well, good luck.
- 27:47Thank you.
- 27:49ABBY LEE MILLER: You know, I didn't appreciate coffee
- 27:51going up to Kendall in the wings and wishing her good luck.
- 27:55Oh, you're the new girl?
- 27:56Good luck.
- 27:57She's a grown adult, why would you do that to a little kid?
- 27:59What's up with your guys' hair?
- 28:01It's interesting.
- 28:02OK, have fun.
- 28:04We are going to just slaughter the Candy Apples.
- 28:07[music playing]
- 28:11PA: Next up, Abby Lee Dance Company with Bad Apples.
- 28:16[music playing]
- 28:23[applause and cheering]
- 28:28(SINGING) Honey, won't you meet me at the apple tree?
- 28:31[inaudible]
- 28:34Honey, won't you meet me at the apple tree?
- 28:36[inaudible]
- 28:45Oh.
- 28:53CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: So I'm watching the Abby Lee dancers,
- 28:55and all of the Apples.
- 28:57I was clearly represented.
- 28:59I love it.
- 29:00[applause and cheering]
- 29:02Honey, won't you meet me at the apple tree?
- 29:04[inaudible]
- 29:07Ooh.
- 29:13[applause and cheering]
- 29:16[music playing]
- 29:17I really think that their faces,
- 29:19and their facial expression, and kind of that old fashioned look
- 29:23really stood out during the performance.
- 29:25I thought they did great.
- 29:26PA: Next up, Candy Apples Dance Company with Baile Española.
- 29:31[applause and cheering]
- 29:36Go girls!
- 29:38[music playing]
- 29:52These girls totally look a lot older than our kids.
- 29:56They look 14, 15.
- 30:01[applause and cheering]
- 30:03They were well trained, their technique was beautiful,
- 30:06they were doing five and six terms together as a group.
- 30:09I am really concerned.
- 30:12[interposing voices]
- 30:14[applause and cheering]
- 30:23[music playing]
- 30:28After watching the number, I'm not certain that our girls are
- 30:31going to pull it off.
- 30:35Yeah.
- 30:36They looked really old.
- 30:37Some of them were almost my height.
- 30:42And I really questioned Cathy's integrity,
- 30:44because you don't want to be known as somebody that
- 30:47lies about kids' ages at a competition.
- 30:50Well, that went down the tubes, didn't it?
- 30:53What?
- 30:54Well, when Kendall goes early, it doesn't hold and doesn't
- 30:56listen to the music.
- 30:57Kendall, do you play an instrument?
- 31:00You need to.
- 31:01You need to learn to read music.
- 31:02You need to learn to hear it.
- 31:04You have to step up the face if you're standing next
- 31:05to this one.
- 31:06She was over the top with this face.
- 31:08Girls, this was an easy, baby dance.
- 31:11I'm very upset with the girls.
- 31:13This was an easy piece, and they blew it.
- 31:15Abby, don't think those girls were much older than ours?
- 31:18They looked much older.
- 31:19That's my job.
- 31:20I need to worry about that.
- 31:22Do you think those girls were nine and 10 years old?
- 31:23No, I don't think they were nine and 10.
- 31:25However, I look like an idiot that I just
- 31:27can't win on our own talent, and choreography, and costuming--
- 31:30I think we can win.
- 31:31--that I have to call somebody out,
- 31:33because I think their kids are too old.
- 31:34I'm going to have to walk out of here
- 31:35with my tail between my legs getting
- 31:37beat by Cathy from Candy Apple.
- 31:40And I'm a little worried.
- 31:41I think you should be worried too.
- 31:47[music playing]
- 31:49[applause and cheering]
- 31:51It's not Amish.
- 31:53Yes, it is.
- 31:54No, you should know that.
- 31:55It's '40's.
- 31:56You know what, Cathy?
- 31:57Why don't you go think of something
- 31:58good to say and then come back and talk to me.
- 32:00Because if that's all you got, it's not that good.
- 32:04[applause and cheering]
- 32:06ABBY LEE MILLER: They're about to announce the group awards,
- 32:08and I'm dreading it.
- 32:10Cathy's girls are good.
- 32:12I think this might be the one time that Cathy beats us.
- 32:17ANNOUNCER 1: Third place, number 47, Dock of the Bay.
- 32:20[applause and cheering]
- 32:24Second [inaudible],, number 44, Baile Española.
- 32:28[applause and cheering]
- 32:32[inaudible] small group number 43, Apple Tree.
- 32:36[applause and cheering]
- 32:43I guess that Abby was right about the wrath of the snood,
- 32:46because we did win first place.
- 32:48I guess the judges liked that.
- 32:49It went with the theme of the dance.
- 32:51I think it's time for some pork chops and apple sauce.
- 32:54[applause and cheering]
- 32:55How do you like them apples, Cathy?
- 33:00It's beyond words for me.
- 33:01I am totally irritated with this whole situation.
- 33:05It's an outrage that she won.
- 33:07Our dance was far superior.
- 33:09Did you see how pissed Cathy was?
- 33:11She was.
- 33:12I would love to see the scores on that one.
- 33:14I'm sorry, and you know me, I don't ever rock the boat.
- 33:18But that was a no-brainer.
- 33:21She's got a 287, Baile Española scored a 275.
- 33:25Oh my God, that is utterly ridiculous.
- 33:27Abby Lee has barely beaten us in this group number,
- 33:30but right now I don't have time to just sit and brood
- 33:33about that.
- 33:34I've got to focus on Erica, because Erica is going up
- 33:37against Brooke in a couple of minutes,
- 33:38and I think we can still win this.
- 33:40They were sitting behind us, and I heard them saying,
- 33:43we're sweating bullets.
- 33:44So you know what?
- 33:45They were nervous, their knees were knocking,
- 33:48their butts were shaking.
- 33:50Brooke, warmed up?
- 33:52Nothing sloppy, don't worry about the apple.
- 33:54I am relieved that that group competition is over.
- 33:57I was really worried that we were going to lose.
- 34:00Now I need to concentrate on Brooke, because those older
- 34:04girls up against her are very talented.
- 34:06We're on 102, so you have one more, and then you're up.
- 34:09Thank you.
- 34:10The Candy Apples did a great job, so at that point,
- 34:13I was getting really nervous.
- 34:15[applause and cheering]
- 34:20Beautiful.
- 34:21PA: Next up, Abby Lee solo--
- 34:23Garden of Eden.
- 34:25[music playing]
- 34:54[applause]
- 35:22[applause and cheering]
- 35:30Abby look at me and was like, she did great.
- 35:33For Abby to say that, Brooke had to do pretty good.
- 35:37Good luck.
- 35:41It's all up to Erica right now to bring us some justice.
- 35:45PA: Next up, Candy Apple solo--
- 35:47Through the Looking Glass.
- 35:49[music playing]
- 35:50(SINGING) If you had a chance to see, more than
- 35:53you could ever see.
- 35:56If you had a chance to know, all that people really show.
- 36:01Peep behind the curtains, take a look inside, the secrets
- 36:05that the world don't know.
- 36:07What we try to hide, what we can't define.
- 36:13There are things you can't explain,
- 36:16[inaudible] in the rain.
- 36:24[applause and cheering]
- 36:29ABBY LEE MILLER: I think Brooke gave an amazing performance,
- 36:31but I'm a little bit worried, because that other girl
- 36:33from Candy Apple was much more mature than Brooke.
- 36:37[clapping]
- 36:37You made it look fabulous.
- 36:38Go hug your mommy.
- 36:40It was fabulous.
- 36:42Aw.
- 36:42Yay.
- 36:44It doesn't seem like she was from Cathy's studio at all.
- 36:45Exactly.
- 36:47She's at least 15.
- 36:48Yeah.
- 36:49There's no way that kid's 11, 12.
- 36:50I don't think so either.
- 36:51Hi there.
- 36:52Hello.
- 36:53I was just wondering if we could talk to Cathy and Erica's
- 36:55mom.
- 36:56Sure.

- 37:01Who is?
- 37:02The competition.
- 37:03Yeah, because I was back there,
- 37:04and the girl walked over and goes,
- 37:05we need birth certificates for Cathy's students.
- 37:08Hi, Cathy. I'm Leigh with Rising Star.
- 37:10Hi. Nice to meet you.
- 37:11We've got a lot of people questioning--
- 37:12Erica?
- 37:14- Yeah. - Erica's age.
- 37:15Yeah.
- 37:16We have people complaining that they have seen her perform
- 37:19in the 14 age division at other competitions.
- 37:23OK, so I don't have birth certificates.
- 37:24I didn't have to have a birth certificates at the last--
- 37:26Let me ask you a question-- how old is Erica in her date
- 37:28of birth?
- 37:29Erica is 14, January 17, 1997.
- 37:33So '97, she's 13, 14, then?
- 37:36All right, she is in the wrong age division.
- 37:37And so is Brooke.

- 37:53When is her birth date?
- 37:54January--
- 37:55Of what year?
- 37:57I don't know.
- 38:01Our ages go as of the first of the year, so she would have
- 38:05been 12 the first year she turned 13 in January.
- 38:08Right.
- 38:10I can call and get it faxed.
- 38:12That'll do.
- 38:13Some of the people at the competition
- 38:15thought that Brooke wasn't in the correct age category.
- 38:19Is one of them Candy Apple, Cathy Nesbitt?
- 38:22Yes, she is.
- 38:23I mean, that girl that she had in there,
- 38:25there is no way that she's 12.

- 38:28She is 13, 14.
- 38:30We've already moved her out--
- 38:31ABBY LEE MILLER: --I was going to say.
- 38:32I mean, you know how long I've been doing it.
- 38:33I have never seen a dance instructor blatantly
- 38:37lie about a kid's age to try to beat me.
- 38:39Erika is a beautiful dancer.
- 38:42Had her teacher entered her in the right age division,
- 38:45she probably would have won the whole thing.
- 38:47But, instead, she was disqualified.
- 38:49CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: But you know what?
- 38:50It doesn't matter.
- 38:52Those people who ruin it are just the ones that are jealous.

- 39:12and send it to the judge?
