  7. 0:11Company.
  8. 0:12that's what it means.
  9. 0:13- I forgot the whole dance. - I know.
  10. 0:15What happened?

  14. 0:22ABBY LEE MILLER: Don't you understand
  15. 0:23they should be afraid of you?
  16. 0:25I was talking about how my daughter's come 3,000 miles
  17. 0:27to do three steps.
  18. 0:29ABBY LEE MILLER: And be lucky she's doing those three steps.
  19. 0:31I can't take it.
  20. 0:32[THEME - NIKKO LOWE, "LIVING ON THE DANCE FLOOR"]
  21. 0:34THEME: Get up.
  22. 0:35Get on the floor.
  23. 0:37My world is with my girls, living on the dance floor.
  24. 0:44[MUSIC PLAYING]
  25. 0:49Let's go.
  26. 0:50Let's go.
  27. 0:51Get in here.
  28. 0:52Isn't this nice?
  29. 0:54Lots of space, we can run our numbers.
  30. 0:57Hello, everybody.
  31. 0:58Good morning.
  32. 0:59Hello.
  33. 1:00intensity Dance was intense.
  34. 1:04I saw lots of mistakes.
  35. 1:05And yet this was the week where every solo needed
  36. 1:09to strive for perfection.
  37. 1:12This was the last competition before we go to Nationals.
  38. 1:16You were duly warned.
  39. 1:18We won that 2011 National Title.
  40. 1:21I want to win it again.
  41. 1:22Now this week, we're going to stay right here in sunny Los
  42. 1:27Angeles.
  43. 1:28But we are going to the most famous zip code.
  44. 1:3590210.
  45. 1:37Sorry.
  46. 1:37I'm sorry.
  47. 1:39I'm sorry.
  48. 1:40We are going to 90210, Beverly Hills.
  49. 1:45[MUSIC PLAYING]
  50. 1:48We are going to the Energy Dance National Invitational.
  51. 1:52Several competitions are doing this now,
  52. 1:54where they invite you to come to their nationals.
  53. 1:57So it's very prestigious and quite an honor to be invited.
  54. 2:00So let's get to the pyramid.
  55. 2:03Paige, you know you were going to be there.
  56. 2:06You forgot your dance.
  57. 2:07You have so much more talent than you're able to show--
  58. 2:11A, because of an injury and B because you don't remember what
  59. 2:14you're doing.
  60. 2:15Next, Nia-- I thought you could have been better.
  61. 2:21I need you to be just as strong at the end
  62. 2:23as you are at the beginning.
  63. 2:26Next, I have Chloe.
  64. 2:30AWARDS ANNOUNCER: 6th place is Miss Chloe with act number 59,
  65. 2:33"Ghost."
  66. 2:37ABBY LEE MILLER: Chloe, you've been consistently in the top 5
  67. 2:40for most of your life.
  68. 2:426 is not good enough for you.
  69. 2:46Kendall, you came out there strong.
  70. 2:49You were exciting.
  71. 2:50You were energized.
  72. 2:52Your tricks were clean.
  73. 2:53Your movements were sharp.
  74. 2:54You attacked them, everything a great jazz dance needs to be.
  75. 2:59When you started your turns, they were a bit sluggish.
  76. 3:01Even your mother pointed that out to me.
  77. 3:03Kendall beat Chloe this week.
  78. 3:04That's huge.
  79. 3:05Kendall deserves to be higher on that pyramid.
  80. 3:08ABBY LEE MILLER: Moving along--
  81. 3:09Brooke.
  82. 3:11You won.
  83. 3:12You were in the overall high scores.
  84. 3:14I was proud of you.
  85. 3:15But you know what?
  86. 3:16You are capable of doing more.
  87. 3:19And you're lazy.
  88. 3:21And you're sitting there saying, this is good.
  89. 3:23I can coast.
  90. 3:24I'm still winning.
  91. 3:25I'm still getting the platinum.
  92. 3:28I can just step out there and do one chin stand
  93. 3:30and get a platinum.
  94. 3:31That's what I see happening.
  95. 3:34Next, Mackenzie-- it's the easy stuff that you mess up.
  96. 3:40The roundoff back handspring was great.
  97. 3:42The side aerial was great. aerial walkover was great.
  98. 3:45This?
  99. 3:47Come on.
  100. 3:48And Maddie, you're on top of the pyramid.
  101. 3:53Are you glad to be there?
  102. 3:55Abby's already defined Maddie as her National winner.
  103. 3:58ABBY LEE MILLER: Was it better to win,
  104. 3:59or better to sit in the audience,
  105. 4:00while everybody else gets better?
  106. 4:04Maddie is on top of the pyramid, of course.
  107. 4:06Her performance alone put her there.
  108. 4:09Now everyone is in the group routine.
  109. 4:12And this group routine is very disturbing.
  110. 4:15And the title is "My Last Text."
  111. 4:19This routine should leave the judges feeling something.
  112. 4:24This week, we're doing a group number called "My Last Text."
  113. 4:26And it's really weird and scary.
  114. 4:29ABBY LEE MILLER: Energy Dance is allowing us
  115. 4:31to do four additional routines.
  116. 4:34Mackenzie, you're doing a solo this week.
  117. 4:36Maddie, you will have a solo because you just
  118. 4:40won the overall.
  119. 4:42Brooke, you will be doing "The Diary of Anne Frank."
  120. 4:45Paige, you will not have a solo this week.
  121. 4:48I want you to concentrate on the group dance.
  122. 4:50And I want you to remember it.
  123. 4:51Nia, Kendall, and Chloe, we're going to teach all three of you
  124. 4:56the same choreography.
  125. 4:59Originally, I thought that Chloe would
  126. 5:01be my fourth solo selected.
  127. 5:03But after she ended up sixth and Kendall beat her and Nia looked
  128. 5:08great in the group dance, I don't know if Chloe's
  129. 5:12the right choice, or not.
  130. 5:14So you three, get your game faces on.
  131. 5:19And remember, they're not your friends.
  132. 5:21They're your competitors.
  133. 5:22JILL VERTES: Abby gives out the solos.
  134. 5:24She has one solo left to give out.
  135. 5:26And the three of them are going to have to compete
  136. 5:29for this final solo position.
  137. 5:31I think this is ridiculous and unfair.
  138. 5:33I really, really want for Kendall to have a solo.
  139. 5:37She deserves it.
  140. 5:38[MUSIC PLAYING]
  141. 5:39Moms, you are dismissed.
  142. 5:40Girls spread apart-- grand plié in Second,
  143. 5:44heel stretch in front.
  144. 5:50So here's a car seat.
  145. 5:52OK, Maddie, get in the passenger seat right there.
  146. 5:55This number is called "The Last Text."
  147. 5:58I have this vision.
  148. 5:59We're going to put the kids in the car,
  149. 6:01even though they're really a little young to be driving.
  150. 6:03Now you're in a car.
  151. 6:05So when she turns, everybody-- everybody has to lean.
  152. 6:09I'm going to use Paige as the driver.
  153. 6:11She doesn't have to do too much.
  154. 6:13Kelly will probably hit the roof.
  155. 6:14But Paige is beautiful to look at.
  156. 6:16They're on their phones.
  157. 6:17And they're taking pictures of each other.
  158. 6:19That's what little kids do.
  159. 6:20And then in the music, boom.
  160. 6:22There's a car crash.
  161. 6:23On each tink, they're not hearing this.
  162. 6:28If Maddie can pull this number of with her acting skills,
  163. 6:33it's going to win.
  164. 6:33It's going to win everything.
  165. 6:35Paige, for God's sakes, you haven't even danced yet.
  166. 6:38Sit up straight.
  167. 6:39I think having Nia and Chloe and Kendall
  168. 6:42dance against one another for a solo is crappy.
  169. 6:45Naturally, all the kids want it.
  170. 6:47And you have to beat your friend to get it.
  171. 6:49My thought is that I think it's ridiculous
  172. 6:51that she already has someone picked or that solo.
  173. 6:55And I'm pretty confident Abby doesn't
  174. 6:58want Nia to do that solo.
  175. 7:00Push, 2, 3, 4.
  176. 7:03Now grab her and pull her away from her, away.
  177. 7:06Last week, she made it crystal clear to all of us.
  178. 7:09What you do this week-- that's why she gave everybody a solo--
  179. 7:13is who gets what at Nationals.
  180. 7:14Everybody who came in score wise got a solo, except for Kendall.
  181. 7:20So how I see it is--
  182. 7:22KELLY HYLAND: She's giving Chloe another chance.
  183. 7:23Yep. She's giving it to Chloe.
  184. 7:25But that's [BLEEP].
  185. 7:26Kendall beat Chloe.
  186. 7:27It was Kendall's week.
  187. 7:28So give it to her, then.
  188. 7:29I'm worried your three kids are
  189. 7:31going to be not focused now.
  190. 7:33Because they're doing a group dance right now.
  191. 7:35And they're going to be worried, oh, my god.
  192. 7:37I have to compete against my friends to get a solo.
  193. 7:37Oh, my god.
  194. 7:39But I also wonder if that is another motivating factor
  195. 7:42to try to teach those kids, you need to want it.
  196. 7:44But that's just not in Chloe's nature.
  197. 7:47ABBY LEE MILLER: Were you?
  198. 7:48Did you almost-- who almost tripped over her?
  199. 7:50All right.
  200. 7:51Guys, go grab a drink.
  201. 7:52JILL VERTES: Vivi got a lot of solos.
  202. 7:54MADDIE ZIEGLER: Oh, my gosh!
  203. 7:56[INTERPOSING VOICES]
  204. 8:01So the mom's and I are all sitting outside.
  205. 8:03And all of a sudden, the girls burst through the door.
  206. 8:05And everybody's, like, freaked out a little bit.
  207. 8:07And they're like, oh, the music's really creepy.
  208. 8:08And Mackenzie gets ejected from the car.
  209. 8:10And I'm thinking, like, what the hell kind of dance is this?
  210. 8:13So like, we're all, like, dying throughout the dance.
  211. 8:16JILL VERTES: Who's texting?
  212. 8:17Who's the culprit?
  213. 8:18- We all are. - No.
  214. 8:19Paige dies first. JILL VERTES: Who's driving?
  215. 8:21PAIGE HYLAND: I don't dance at all.
  216. 8:22Chloe takes pictures of me.
  217. 8:23CHRISTI LUKASIAK: What do you mean, you don't dance?
  218. 8:24She sits like this the whole time.
  219. 8:24No.
  220. 8:25HOLLY FRAZIER: What do you mean? You don't stand up?
  221. 8:31[MUSIC PLAYING]
  222. 8:32Doing what?
  223. 8:33Just ignore her, Paige.
  224. 8:34She's just doing it to be a mean person.
  225. 8:44Oh, my god!
  226. 8:47"Hi, Abby.
  227. 8:48The Candy Apple Dance Center can't
  228. 8:50wait to beat your ass at Energy's National
  229. 8:53Invitationals.
  230. 8:54XOXO, Cathy."
  231. 8:56ALL: No!
  232. 8:58Gianna gets a tweet from Cathy, saying,
  233. 9:01like, the Candy Apples are on their way to Nationals
  234. 9:03to kick the ALDC's ass.
  235. 9:05This is a whole new ball game.
  236. 9:08They're going to be hungry for it, though.
  237. 9:10I know.
  238. 9:11And they've probably been working on this dance
  239. 9:13for, like, how long? - Months.
  240. 9:14And we're learning ours in two days.
  241. 9:16I think knowing that the Candy Apples are going to be here,
  242. 9:18Abby is going to push the girls more.
  243. 9:20So all the girls need to step it up this week.
  244. 9:28[MUSIC - KINGMAKERS, "HONEY BEE"]
  245. 9:28KINGMAKERS: (SINGING) Tastes so sweet,
  246. 9:30from her head to her feet.
  247. 9:32You know that's something that can't be beat.
  248. 9:35ABBY LEE MILLER: Mackenzie has a solo.
  249. 9:36It's music I've used before.
  250. 9:38KINGMAKERS: (SINGING) Ain't no honey sweeter
  251. 9:40than my honey bee.
  252. 9:42Ah, can't you see?
  253. 9:43It's called "Honey Bee."
  254. 9:44But I think Mackenzie is more of a killer bee.
  255. 9:48Beautiful.
  256. 9:50She's going to go out there and sting her competition.
  257. 9:53If Vivi-Anne happens to be waiting in the wings and gets
  258. 9:55stung, oh, well.
  259. 9:58I hope she's not allergic to bees.
  260. 10:02Girls, this is for Nationals.
  261. 10:05I'm giving Brooke "The Diary of Anne Frank."
  262. 10:08Now Brooke learned this routine about four weeks ago.
  263. 10:11So she should have it down pat.
  264. 10:15She can do these tricks in her sleep.
  265. 10:17She's going to get out there.
  266. 10:18She's going to be beautiful.
  267. 10:20And she's going to nail it, or she's going to be sloppy
  268. 10:23and she's not going to win.
  269. 10:25It's up to Brooke.
  270. 10:26You have to realize that nobody from Cathy's is going
  271. 10:31to come close to you.
  272. 10:32If you do this dance the way I taught it to you,
  273. 10:35you're going to win.
  274. 10:36She has everything required to be a National Title holder.
  275. 10:39[MUSIC - SAMI AKBARI, "TELLING MYSELF"]
  276. 10:41Hold, boom, run, run, run, stop, spin, spin, spin.
  277. 10:46Maddie's doing another contemporary solo called
  278. 10:49"Telling Myself."
  279. 10:50And it's telling herself, I am back in the game.
  280. 10:53I want to win.
  281. 10:55I want it.
  282. 10:58She's almost being a little cocky and telling the judges,
  283. 11:01I'm too good for you.
  284. 11:02You don't deserve me.
  285. 11:04SAMI AKBARI: (SINGING) You don't deserve me.
  286. 11:06That's what I keep saying.
  287. 11:16I know.
  288. 11:17But the other girls were dancing, too.
  289. 11:18- They're not sitting in a seat. - There's a turn.
  290. 11:19Is there a turn right there?
  291. 11:27Who's ripping on her?
  292. 11:29We didn't say anything about Maddie.
  293. 11:30And Abby, by the way, I was not talking about Maddie.
  294. 11:33I was talking about how my daughter's come 3,000 miles
  295. 11:35to do three steps.
  296. 11:37ABBY LEE MILLER: And be lucky she's doing those three steps!
  297. 11:39ABBY LEE MILLER: After she forgot and screwed up her dance
  298. 11:40Why?
  299. 11:42and didn't do it and forgot again a 11 years old?
  300. 11:45What?
  301. 11:46I'd get back to the pediatrician
  302. 11:47and find out what's wrong, Kelly.
  303. 11:49For real, find out what's wrong.
  304. 11:51Go.
  305. 11:56Let's go, Paige.
  306. 11:57Brooke, you can leave class, too.
  307. 11:58ABBY LEE MILLER: You know what?
  308. 12:00It's getting kind of old, Kelly.
  309. 12:01You need to figure some new tricks.
  310. 12:03Because this whole little temper tantrum from
  311. 12:05a 40-something-year-old woman is pathetic.
  312. 12:08CHRISTI LUKASIAK: I've seen Kelly storm at a time or 20.
  313. 12:11And this time it just feels different.
  314. 12:13Abby said something so rotten about Paige,
  315. 12:16I can't blame Kelly.
  316. 12:17I would have done the exact same thing.
  317. 12:21I get it.
  318. 12:23We all get it.
  319. 12:23We know exactly what you're thinking.
  320. 12:25You're thinking you're the world's worst mother
  321. 12:26because you're allowed this to happen.
  322. 12:28Has she done one thing with Paige for Nationals
  323. 12:33this entire time that would make you think that she wants her
  324. 12:36here? JILL VERTES: No.
  325. 12:37And I said one word about it.
  326. 12:39And she tells me I need to take my daughter to the doctors?
  327. 12:42I don't know how much people think I can take.
  328. 12:44I can't take it.
  329. 12:45HOLLY FRAZIER: Lean on us.
  330. 12:47If you can't do it, lean on us and we will do it for you.
  331. 12:50This woman is going to give me a nervous breakdown.
  332. 12:52I can't do it.
  333. 12:53HOLLY FRAZIER: Kelly is a puddle of tears right now.
  334. 12:55She's distraught.
  335. 12:56She's distressed.
  336. 12:57She's had to watch Paige being overlooked week after week.
  337. 13:00And I'm not sure she can take much more of this.
  338. 13:02You can not let this woman win.
  339. 13:05We need you.
  340. 13:06That's fine.
  341. 13:07They can do it.
  342. 13:07But I can't do this anymore.
  343. 13:10This is just one more reason why I
  344. 13:13think I need to pull my kids out of this studio.
  345. 13:17[MUSIC PLAYING]
  346. 13:25CHRISTI LUKASIAK: We walk into rehearsals this morning
  347. 13:27and Kelly is nowhere to be found.
  348. 13:29If Kelly doesn't come back, Abby can
  349. 13:31feel free to replace me too.
  350. 13:32Because you know what?
  351. 13:33We're a two-for-one.
  352. 13:35No Kelly, no Christi.
  353. 13:36Because I'm not putting up with these people alone.
  354. 13:39Hey!
  355. 13:40Hi!
  356. 13:41Look what the cat dragged in.
  357. 13:43The party is here.
  358. 13:47I talked to my kids.
  359. 13:48And they want to go back to practice.
  360. 13:50They really want to do Nationals.
  361. 13:52So I'm going to toughen up.
  362. 13:54And we're going to finish out the year.
  363. 13:56HOLLY FRAZIER: How are you going to react to Abby, once you see
  364. 13:57her? - I don't know.
  365. 13:58I'm nervous.
  366. 13:59So you haven't talked to her at all?
  367. 14:01HOLLY FRAZIER: You know, I know her comment's going to be,
  368. 14:03well, you left.
  369. 14:04But I keep leaving because she keeps doing things
  370. 14:07to make me leave.
  371. 14:08Like, what am I supposed to do, just sit there and, like, take
  372. 14:11it? - Hello.
  373. 14:15I need all of you.
  374. 14:16We're going to do the solo audition final.
  375. 14:18[MUSIC PLAYING]
  376. 14:19I'm going to have an audition.
  377. 14:21But Holly, Christi, and Jill will be judging.
  378. 14:24So the girls are actually going to audition
  379. 14:27for their own mothers.
  380. 14:28[MUSIC - ALYSON GREENFIELD, "I LOVE ONLY SILENCE"]
  381. 14:30ALYSON GREENFIELD: (SINGING) I love only silence here.
  382. 14:33There is noise all the time.
  383. 14:37I love sunny landscapes.
  384. 14:40I love the sky.
  385. 14:44HOLLY FRAZIER: Abby maintains that the moms will decide who
  386. 14:46gets the fourth solo.
  387. 14:48But we all know who has the final decision, when it comes
  388. 14:51to any dancing at the Abby Lee Dance Company.
  389. 14:53ALYSON GREENFIELD: (SINGING) The great woman who will save.
  390. 14:58ABBY LEE MILLER: OK.
  391. 14:59We're going to start with Jill.
  392. 15:02I pick Kendall.
  393. 15:03I'm sorry.
  394. 15:04To me, a no-brainer.
  395. 15:05ABBY LEE MILLER: Christi.
  396. 15:06I obviously pick Chloe.
  397. 15:07She's been with you since she was two years old.
  398. 15:09I think Chloe has been a team player for a long time.
  399. 15:13ABBY LEE MILLER: Holly?
  400. 15:14I would say Nia.
  401. 15:16I really enjoyed watching her perform the piece.
  402. 15:19ABBY LEE MILLER: All right.
  403. 15:20So we have a three-way tie.
  404. 15:22JILL VERTES: This is a big waste of time.
  405. 15:24Because ultimately, we all know that Abby's going
  406. 15:27to pick who gets the solo.
  407. 15:28So Melissa, you get to break the tie.
  408. 15:31Oh, my god.
  409. 15:34ABBY LEE MILLER: I put Melissa on the spot.
  410. 15:36Because I am sick and tired of her being goody-goody
  411. 15:39and playing sides to everybody.
  412. 15:41She's this one's best friend one day and this one's best friend
  413. 15:43the next day, talking about that one.
  414. 15:45That's what she does.
  415. 15:48I think that Nia should get this opportunity because she
  416. 15:52goes 100%.
  417. 15:54And she has shown us that she can do different.
  418. 15:59Based on that performance, you would put me on that stage?
  419. 16:02And I'm not saying you wouldn't.
  420. 16:04I'm not a judge. I'm a mom.
  421. 16:05You asked us to base it on that performance.
  422. 16:07HOLLY FRAZIER: But she gave her opinion, so rest.
  423. 16:09I'm sorry if that hurt your feelings.
  424. 16:11HOLLY FRAZIER: No, it doesn't hurt my feelings.
  425. 16:12JILL VERTES: I didn't want to know about all the weeks
  426. 16:14[INAUDIBLE] in the past. - Silence.
  427. 16:15JILL VERTES: I think this is ridiculous and unfair.
  428. 16:18Kendall beat Chloe fair and square.
  429. 16:20Kendall deserves the solo.
  430. 16:22ABBY LEE MILLER: Melissa, all personal issues aside,
  431. 16:24who do you think is going to give us the most points?
  432. 16:29ABBY LEE MILLER: And that's what a judge needs to do.
  433. 16:30Chloe.
  434. 16:31MELISSA ZIEGLER: I just said it. And I'm not saying it again.
  435. 16:32Because I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings.
  436. 16:33It's already done, Melissa. We already knew.
  437. 16:35Kendall, I think you were wonderful.
  438. 16:37I do. I think you were great.
  439. 16:40Of course we knew.
  440. 16:43This whole thing It's not fair.
  441. 16:45It's not fair.
  442. 16:46It's just not fair.
  443. 16:47Oh, my gosh.
  444. 16:49It's a solo, Jill.
  445. 16:50Relax.
  446. 16:51JILL VERTES: That's right.
  447. 16:52You relax, Holly.
  448. 16:53Then relax.
  449. 16:54I'm not dealing with this anymore.
  450. 16:55This is ludicrous, absolutely ludicrous.
  451. 17:03ABBY LEE MILLER: You know what, Kendall?
  452. 17:04You don't have to worry about it.
  453. 17:05I would love for you to go and beat
  454. 17:07the crap out of Candy Apples.
  455. 17:08I'm not allowed to do any more solos.
  456. 17:11KENDALL VERTES: Thank you.
  457. 17:12You're welcome.
  458. 17:13CHLOE LUKASIAK: Good job, Kendall.
  459. 17:15ABBY LEE MILLER: Congratulations.
  460. 17:20[MUSIC PLAYING]
  461. 17:26Hello, everybody.
  462. 17:28Why does everybody keep warming up?
  463. 17:30It's just going to be a long day.
  464. 17:32[MUSIC PLAYING]
  465. 17:33This is the last day of the rehearsal.
  466. 17:35I don't want to be cocky.
  467. 17:36There's a lot of people coming to this competition.
  468. 17:39Some really, really tough schools in the California area
  469. 17:42have been invited.
  470. 17:44And I know that I always have a target on my back.
  471. 17:47I don't want any excuses.
  472. 17:48[MUSIC - ALYSON GREENFIELD, "I LOVE ONLY SILENCE"]
  473. 17:49Nobody's forgetting and running off.
  474. 17:51CHLOE LUKASIAK: My new solo is called "Silence."
  475. 17:53And it has a lot of emotions and I really like it.
  476. 17:56I'm going to work the hardest that I've ever worked on a solo
  477. 17:58before.
  478. 17:59Because I really want to make Nia and Kendall proud,
  479. 18:01since they didn't get their opportunity.
  480. 18:05ABBY LEE MILLER: OK, breathe.
  481. 18:07Listen to her breathing.
  482. 18:08ABBY LEE MILLER: Breathe.
  483. 18:10You OK?
  484. 18:11You got to breathe.
  485. 18:12You're not breathing the whole time.
  486. 18:14And there's breaths in there.
  487. 18:15CHRISTI LUKASIAK: I don't think Chloe is going into Nationals
  488. 18:17with the confidence that she should have.
  489. 18:20I mean, Chloe got sixth last week.
  490. 18:21And to be beat by Kendall, I think,
  491. 18:23was a little bit of a blow to her confidence.
  492. 18:26I'm always the first to hug her and say, oh, you know,
  493. 18:28it doesn't matter.
  494. 18:29But I want her to do great at Nationals.
  495. 18:31So maybe it's time that I push her a little more than just
  496. 18:34coddle her.
  497. 18:35Honey, you learned that dance yesterday, OK?
  498. 18:39And the difference between what you did yesterday and today
  499. 18:43is amazing.
  500. 18:44You are not messing up everything.
  501. 18:45OK?
  502. 18:47Like, I know that you could go do that dance, Chloe.
  503. 18:49I know you can.
  504. 18:51I know you can.
  505. 18:53It doesn't matter what I know.
  506. 18:55You have to know it.
  507. 18:57OK?
  508. 18:58[MUSIC PLAYING]
  509. 19:01CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Let me just give you a little bit
  510. 19:03of background about this place.
  511. 19:04It's a little under our budget.
  512. 19:07This is a wonderful opportunity.
  513. 19:09We're here in LA.
  514. 19:10The owner of the dance competition has seen us.
  515. 19:13She gave us a personal invite.
  516. 19:15Oh, there's people in here--
  517. 19:17ay, ay, ay, ay, ay.
  518. 19:19That's a butt I don't want to see.
  519. 19:20Didn't want to see that.
  520. 19:22MACKENZIE ZIEGLER: Oh, my god, Cathy.
  521. 19:25Oh, my god.
  522. 19:27What the heck?
  523. 19:28Are they test crash dummies?
  524. 19:30What are they doing?
  525. 19:32What's she trying to do?
  526. 19:33What are those nails?
  527. 19:34Ew. OK.
  528. 19:35Well, you know what, guys?
  529. 19:36Studio B?
  530. 19:37Yeah.
  531. 19:38Now I know why this was under our budget.
  532. 19:40CHRISTI LUKASIAK: Obviously, anybody
  533. 19:41can crawl into Beverly Hills, these days.
  534. 19:43Because they're even letting Cathy in.
  535. 19:45ABBY LEE MILLER: Girls, those dancers walked in
  536. 19:48and immediately, you fell into it.
  537. 19:50Don't you understand they should be afraid of you?
  538. 19:53CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Yeah.
  539. 19:54Since this is all about him and Chloe--
  540. 19:56CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Clean Chloe's Clock.
  541. 19:57Clean Chloe's clock.
  542. 19:58Clean Chloe's clock.
  543. 20:00Clean Chloe's clock.
  544. 20:01ABBY LEE MILLER: Time to get ready, solos.
  545. 20:03Let's do it.
  546. 20:13CHRISTI LUKASIAK: Oh, give me a break, please.
  547. 20:15OK, Justice, what are you supposed to look like?
  548. 20:17You are telling a story, also.
  549. 20:19ABBY LEE MILLER: Go out there and beat Justice.
  550. 20:23[MUSIC PLAYING]
  551. 20:26Girls, listen to me.
  552. 20:27Do not even associate with Cathy.
  553. 20:31Just turn and walk away.
  554. 20:32So here we are.
  555. 20:33It's Nationals.
  556. 20:35We walked into Energy Dance with our heads held high.
  557. 20:37And I think that this is going to be a great day.
  558. 20:40Girls, come on.
  559. 20:42This is Nationals.
  560. 20:43You worked all year.
  561. 20:45Every single day that you've been in that studio rehearsing,
  562. 20:48every weekend that we've flown to a competition
  563. 20:51has led up to this point today.
  564. 20:53What you do on that stage could change the rest of your life.
  565. 20:57Understood?
  566. 20:57Maddie, you were up first.
  567. 20:59Chloe, I'm going to have to get ready.
  568. 21:01Because we need to do some psyching out with Justice.
  569. 21:04Come on.
  570. 21:05Let's go.
  571. 21:06Listen, Nationals-- this is it for us.
  572. 21:09OK?
  573. 21:10We go home after this.
  574. 21:11And it would be nice if we could leave here with a National win.
  575. 21:16We have a confidence level that knows that we're a classy act.
  576. 21:19We have a wonderful routine that is very heartfelt, that I think
  577. 21:24that, finally, we may be able to possibly beat Abby.
  578. 21:28This is Nationals.
  579. 21:29It'd would be great if we could pull out a win.
  580. 21:31C-A-C-D, C-A-D-C, C-A-D-C.
  581. 21:37ABBY LEE MILLER: Sure enough, its Cathy,
  582. 21:39making a complete idiot out of herself and those poor kids.
  583. 21:42How do they put up with it?
  584. 21:43I would be mortified if my teacher ever did that.
  585. 21:46No matter what the wide load has to say about us,
  586. 21:49we were invited.
  587. 21:50And we have every right to be here.
  588. 21:52ABBY LEE MILLER: Don't forget, Chloe, you're
  589. 21:53going backstage with Maddie.
  590. 21:54Find Justice.
  591. 21:55Get in his face.
  592. 21:56Do one right turn.
  593. 21:58CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: All right, Justice,
  594. 22:00in the event that anybody is backstage from Abby Lee
  595. 22:03and they comment--
  596. 22:04I say, good luck.
  597. 22:05Good luck, that's right, smart boy.
  598. 22:07And they comment-- don't let it rattle you,
  599. 22:10if she would say something to you.
  600. 22:12ABBY LEE MILLER: Let's do it. come on.
  601. 22:17[MUSIC PLAYING]
  602. 22:24MADDIE ZIEGLER: I'm kind of nervous because it's
  603. 22:27a really hard competition.
  604. 22:28And it's Nationals.
  605. 22:29And I really, really want to win.
  606. 22:31COMPETITION EMCEE: Please welcome to the stage entry
  607. 22:33number 9A.
  608. 22:34This is Maddie, performing "Telling Myself."
  609. 22:40[MUSIC - SAMI AKBARI, "TELLING MYSELF"]
  610. 22:42SAMI AKBARI: (SINGING) Now's the time you change your mind
  611. 22:48and say that you don't want me.
  612. 22:54Even though I cry sometimes, I know in the back of my mind--
  613. 23:03ABBY LEE MILLER: Maddie is on the money.
  614. 23:07She's hitting everything.
  615. 23:08She has those judges in the palm of her hand.
  616. 23:11It's like watching a 25-year-old professional on that stage.
  617. 23:15SAMI AKBARI: (SINGING) At least that's
  618. 23:16what I keep telling myself.
  619. 23:26[APPLAUSE AND CHEERS]
  620. 23:31MELISSA ZIEGLER: Maddie went out on stage
  621. 23:33and did exactly what Abby wanted her to do.
  622. 23:35She wanted the emotions to be there, her technique.
  623. 23:38It was amazing.
  624. 23:41COMPETITION EMCEE: Moving now to entry number 31B.
  625. 23:45Please welcome to the stage Justice performing "Never
  626. 23:49Surrender."
  627. 23:53[MUSIC - BIG SOUND MUSIC, "CONFLICT"]
  628. 24:17ABBY LEE MILLER: I'm going to be livid if Justice beats
  629. 24:19these two girls.
  630. 24:20I mean, I saw tons of flaws in the choreography.
  631. 24:33CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Justice's kicks are amazing.
  632. 24:35His technique is flawless.
  633. 24:37I mean, I think he's doing a fabulous job.
  634. 24:39And I couldn't be more proud of him.
  635. 24:41[MUSIC PLAYING]
  636. 24:42Woo-hoo!
  637. 24:44Good job.
  638. 24:45Maddie, that was a National award-winning solo.
  639. 24:50You just set the bar really high for everybody else that's
  640. 24:52going to dance today.
  641. 24:53This is Nationals.
  642. 24:54And the Abby Lee Dance Company came to win.
  643. 25:01Stay in on the words.
  644. 25:04Abby is so sidetracked with Cathy being here.
  645. 25:08Like, my daughter ran her dance 10 times.
  646. 25:09And not once did she even look at her.
  647. 25:11Like, she's on stage next.
  648. 25:13Brooke is going for a National title.
  649. 25:15And nobody's working with her.
  650. 25:17ABBY LEE MILLER: This is it.
  651. 25:18You've come a long way.
  652. 25:19And you're going out there to put Vivi-Anne in her place.
  653. 25:21If you don't win, it defeats the whole purpose
  654. 25:24of doing the bee dance.
  655. 25:25And I look like an idiot.
  656. 25:26And that's not going to happen around Cathy.
  657. 25:28Come on, girls, game faces.
  658. 25:29Let's do it.
  659. 25:30[MUSIC PLAYING]
  660. 25:36COMPETITION EMCEE: Please welcome to the stage entry
  661. 25:38number 43A, Brooke, performing "Diary of Anne Frank."
  662. 25:49[MUSIC - BRIAN CRAIN, "SOUR GRAPES"]
  663. 26:22KELLY HYLAND: I don't know if I'm coming back.
  664. 26:24But on the same token, I'm hurting my kids
  665. 26:28by pulling them out of there.
  666. 26:29Because they love to dance.
  667. 26:32And so I don't know what's worse.
  668. 26:35It's going to be a tough decision.
  669. 26:38[MUSIC PLAYING]
  670. 26:42Brooke was just gorgeous.
  671. 26:43Everything she did was perfect.
  672. 26:45And for once, Brooke actually used emotion.
  673. 26:54MACKENZIE ZIEGLER: I'm really excited about my dance,
  674. 26:56"The Killer Bee."
  675. 26:57Except I'm really nervous because I don't know
  676. 27:00Cathy and Vivi-Anne are going to do to me.
  677. 27:03COMPETITION EMCEE: Please welcome to the stage Mackenzie,
  678. 27:05performing "Killer Bee."
  679. 27:07[APPLAUSE AND CHEERS]
  680. 27:10[MUSIC - KINGMAKERS, "HONEY BEE"]
  681. 27:11KINGMAKERS: (SINGING) Tastes so sweet,
  682. 27:12from her head to her feet.
  683. 27:13No, that's something that can't be beat.
  684. 27:17No word of a lie.
  685. 27:19So don't even try.
  686. 27:21Ain't no honey sweeter than my honey bee.
  687. 27:25Ah, can't you see?
  688. 27:27Ain't no honey sweeter than my honey bee.
  689. 27:30Ah, can't you see?
  690. 27:32CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: That stupid bee solo--
  691. 27:34I'm not a big fan of this dance, at all.
  692. 27:37KINGMAKERS: (SINGING) Ain't no honey sweeter
  693. 27:39than my honey bee.
  694. 27:41ABBY LEE MILLER: Mackenzie loves her costume.
  695. 27:43She loves the dance, loves the hair bows.
  696. 27:46She loves it all.
  697. 27:47And you can tell that when you're watching her dance.
  698. 27:50She stepped out on stage like that killer bee.
  699. 27:53And she'd buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzzed around that stage
  700. 27:55like there was no tomorrow.
  701. 28:04I think she gave those judges a good sting.
  702. 28:07And they know all about Mackenzie.
  703. 28:10Woo-hoo!
  704. 28:10Oh, my gosh.
  705. 28:11Congratulations.
  706. 28:16CHRISTI LUKASIAK: It's time for Chloe to do her solo.
  707. 28:19And this isn't going to be easy.
  708. 28:21You know, Chloe's dancing against Maddie.
  709. 28:23And Maddie's amazing.
  710. 28:24And she's dancing against Justice.
  711. 28:26And he's pretty amazing, too.
  712. 28:27You dance for Kendall.
  713. 28:28And you dance for Nia. And you dance for Chloe.
  714. 28:30Because they wish they had the same chance you did.
  715. 28:32OK?
  716. 28:34OK.
  717. 28:35It's coming down to these 2 minutes on stage.
  718. 28:37You can either do it, or you can choke.
  719. 28:46[MUSIC PLAYING]
  720. 28:47Hey, listen to me.

  786. 31:43ABBY LEE MILLER: If I was judging,
  787. 31:45there is no way that this routine would be winning.

  809. 32:31CHRISTI LUKASIAK: I'm a little afraid that something called
  810. 32:32"The Last Text" may be a little too bloody
  811. 32:34and gory for a national title.
  812. 32:37[MUSIC - JOHN BALCOM, "DESCRIBING THE CAR CRASH"]
  813. 33:41CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Abby's these girls come out.

  817. 33:53I don't know.
  818. 33:55But I have to tell you that her piece was just absolutely
  819. 33:58brilliant.
  820. 34:00ABBY LEE MILLER: There came that moment where it was silent.
  821. 34:03And in a choreographer's life, or a dance teacher's life,

  914. 38:58in my lifetime, that I have literally walked away
  915. 39:02and thought about days later.
  916. 39:04And I just wanted to keep reliving Abby's "Last Text"
  917. 39:08number because it was brilliant.
  918. 39:14Nothing.
  919. 39:15I just-- it's hard to watch your kids on stage
  920. 39:18and think it's the last time you're
  921. 39:20going to watch them dance.
  922. 39:24I just don't want to come back.
  923. 39:26It has been a really hard year.
  924. 39:28I-- I'm just tired of Abby and just the way she treats them.
  925. 39:32Personally, I don't want to get into an argument.
  926. 39:34But I think a lot of things are taken for granted.
  927. 39:37And I think you don't know how lucky you have it
  928. 39:39and how lucky your kids are.
  929. 39:41How can you really say that my kids are lucky, really?
  930. 39:43They're here.
  931. 39:44Every other dance studio, they're back in Pittsburgh
  932. 39:46already.
  933. 39:47People think I'm cold.
  934. 39:48They don't realize the hell that that woman has put me through.
  935. 39:53Find somebody else that's going to do what I've
  936. 39:56done for your children.
  937. 39:57I thought Brooke was outstanding.
  938. 39:59But Brooke was outstanding because Brooke went over there
  939. 40:00Yeah.
  940. 40:02and practiced on her own.
  941. 40:03Right, Kelly.
  942. 40:04She's 14 years old.
  943. 40:06And she should.
  944. 40:07The entire day.
  945. 40:07She finally wanted something.
  946. 40:09The reason she's third, or fourth, or sixth
  947. 40:11is because of her face.
  948. 40:13She wised up.
  949. 40:14She went out there and she should--
  950. 40:15she did what she should have been doing in September.

  957. 40:28They felt the response of the judges and the audience.
  958. 40:32Congratulations.

  974. 40:58that you put some time and space between yourself
  975. 41:01and this situation, and you think things through.
  976. 41:03[MUSIC PLAYING]
  977. 41:04I never really thought that the time
  978. 41:06would come that Kelly would make a decision that she's done.
  979. 41:10Nobody here wants to see any of you leave.
  980. 41:14MELISSA ZIEGLER: The team definitely
  981. 41:16won't be the same without Kelly, Paige, and Brooke.
  982. 41:18Dysfunctional as it may be, we're definitely a family.
  983. 41:21This team is not a team without you guys.
  984. 41:25It's not.
  985. 41:26You're my sister.
  986. 41:27And you're my family.
  987. 41:28You cannot leave me here.
  988. 41:32You can't.
